yonose: any thoughts on jurickson profar? he’s now had the equivalent of a full season under his belt and is still just 24. is he more like the player that we saw at the beginning of the season, or is he what he is?

Paul Sporer: I’m reluctant to eye his MLB work as a full season with half of it coming in 2013. I really think he’s still evolving, but I’m not surprised we have seen some struggles. I think he’s like a 110 wRC+ on the high end right now

Paul Sporer: He is still just 23 years old and has plenty of growth

Steve: The entire Cubs starting pitching staff has low BABIPs and is outperforming their FIP. How much of this is just plain good luck, and what type of regression should we see next year?

Paul Sporer: There’s definitely *some* good luck any time you’re running a sub-3.00 ERA. All but Lester are allowing sub-7.0 H/9. I think you just do the normal thing of using FIP and their previous work to get an idea of where regression may go

JEFF W: How much does a teams bullpen effect the ERA of a SP? Specifically ,when a reliever comes in with runners on.

Paul Sporer: That varies, right? Because it depends how often the SP leaves with base runners on and burdens the RP to get outs without him scoring. I don’t know where to find an inherited runners scored chart, though

Young Jeezy: What do I do with Gerrit Cole? 12 team H2H re-draft points league. Taillon, Jansen, & Britton are on the waiver wire (closers aren’t valued very high in our league). At this point, is Cole worth rostering?

Paul Sporer: I have a hard time cutting him in 12-team, but it’s 3 outings of 5 IP or fewer in August. I’m torn. If you have enough SPs elsewhere, take one of those elite closers

Homer: Can you envision Mets trying to move grandy this offseason? (1yr/15mil left) would they have to eat any money to trade him or could they trade him and his remaining money owed for a low level flyer?

Paul Sporer: Hmm, that’s interesting. I think on a one-year situation, they could do it w/out sending cash, but I’m not sure they will

Fire Kevin Cash: How much does a pitcher’s own defensive ability matter?

Paul Sporer: It certainly matters. I don’t think it’s worth a game-changing amt of ERA or WHIP, but it definitely helps, especially if you’re a groundball guy who will get plenty of dribblers that are playable by the SP

Alex: Can you explain Jose Quintana’s bad luck on wins? He is pretty consistently good, yet every year he ends up around 9 wins. It seems like after every start the Rotowire blurb includes the phrase “tough luck loss”. Is this just an extended run of bad luck or is he doing something specific?

Paul Sporer: I don’t think it’s really any specific. He’s on a bad team so it can happen, even as consistent as it’s been for him

Frank: What’s the “stupid” reason that you and Kastava call homers “bomes”?

Paul Sporer: We did these sports trivia contests in college (and dominated, mind you). One of the girls who ran it was cool and we thought she was cute, but we learned she had a boyfriend. His last name was Bohm.

Gerrit Cole: What is my problem against the Reds? They’re not a good team, but it seems like every time I pitch vs them I get BOMBED. Career ERA vs CIN is 5.44 with a 1.53 WHIP.

Paul Sporer: Sometimes we see these quirks with a pitcher against a division foe. it’s kinda nuts how bad he is v. Cincy

I am the walrus: Soler’s recent surge gives him average OF stats with upside. With Schwaber and Baez returning next year and 3/5 of Cubs starters out of contract after 2017. Do you think he’s traded for minor league pitching depth? Do you think he could bring back a top 50-75 prospect with who projects to be a good #3 or shoot higher?

Paul Sporer: Maybe, but it’s OK to have depth. Injuries do happen. Heyward hasn’t been special. Fowler is done with his deal. I just don’t know that they have to hurry to trade Soler

I am the walrus: Fowler opt’s out next yr. Baez deserves AB’s but Schwarber takes maybe 75% of LF AB’s, meaning less OF time for Bryant and Zobrist and less AB’s in IF for Baez. So what’s the best options here? Making Baez the CF and wasting his IF glove work? Or flipping Baez for a CF (I can’t image who) or flipping him for minor league pitching while his value is high? Or keeping him as super sub and giving him maybe 375 Ab’s and harming is trade value?

Paul Sporer: J Up is ice cold again and while I do think he’ll be solid (.780-.810 OPS) next year, I think it’s down to Ramos/BHam

Paul Sporer: I certainly expected more than 0, but didn’t see 20 again. SBs are so sketchy, but especially when they spike outta nowhere like that

The Yankee ginger: your thoughts on Frazier? Yanks have a pretty good core 4 going if he is an above average outfielder (Sanchez,judge,bird, Frazier)
