A Quick Note on Ads

Our advertising policy strictly prohibits any sort of non-prompted audio, popups, or takeover ads. Earlier today there was an obnoxious non-prompted audio ad that displayed on the site for which we received some concerned e-mails and tweets.

Our policy when we’re alerted to such an ad, or see one ourselves, is to remove every ad from the site until the offending ad can be tracked down and removed. We deal with a number of different advertising networks, and, while the majority of the time they provide ads that meet our standards, there are some rare instances where this is not the case.

We are heavy users of FanGraphs and it annoys us just as much as it annoys you to see obnoxious ads on the site, and we’re committed to keeping the site free of ads that are overly intrusive.

David Appelman is the creator of FanGraphs.

Nice! I didn’t see that ad, but I sure do hate those types of ’em.

lrn2 firefox addon -> adblock plus

I seriously can’t remember the last time I saw an ad (though this probably isn’t a good thing for sites that get paid on a per click basis).

Thanks for the quick response. I saw that ad earlier today and I was quite disappointed. However, I am very glad to see this quick response. You guys have a great site here. Thanks for keeping it that way.

Everyone just needs to get Ad Block plus. I never see any ads.

Content is free to produce, but EXTREMELY costly to produce. Good content costs even more. Have a heart, guys. I know that ads are annoying. But putting up with them seems a small price to pay to have a world with better content. It doesn’t cost you readers anything, after all.

Duh, free to consume, but extremely costly to produce. Yes, I need to proofread more before hitting submit.

When Appelman found out that I had ABP active for FanGraphs, he sliced my face off.

Not in a mean way. Just in a “Hey, don’t use Ad Blocker Plus”-type way.

Woo-wee the site sure looks nice without any ads on it. Too bad a PayPal-donation funded sort of arrangement couldn’t work and we could be sans-ads permanently. Love the site, I’d be happy to go without 1 or 2 Starbucks a month for not having to look at shirt-off Bowflex ads!

Thanks, guys! Of course you have ads, and I certainly don’t mind em’, but I appreciate you trying to keep them unobtrusive…

I’m sure you’re thinking about other ways to monetize it, but I’m sure a bonus paid portion to the site – like the bonus blog. (But I could hardly be less interested in the Fantasy thing that was offered ahead of time…)

Thanks for an excellent site all around!

Most people don’t recognize how much adblock punishes the sites they visit. These sites are generally run on ad revenue alone, so just be mindful of that. I usually click a few adds and close them to support sites that I don’t want to go away.
