Pitch Type Splits

The PITCHf/x section for pitchers now contains splits by pitch type. You can now see all the usual stats for how a batters does against a pitcher’s individual pitches.

The splits are sorted by season and then by most pitches thrown, but you can also break things down by individual pitch, if you only want to view a particular pitch type.

FanGraphs The Game: All Stars!

FanGraphs: The Game has reached the midway point of the season and it’s time to announce the very first FanGraphs: The Game All Stars! Just like in real life, every team will have a representative on the roster, except for the Marlins.

The Marlins would have chosen (as a reserve) the very deserving mgodvin (1B), but he is unable to play due to flu like symptoms. He will have no replacement.

Enjoy the break. Picks for Friday’s games will be open at the usual time on Friday morning.

I now present the full FanGraphs: The Game All Stars! Congrats to all that were chosen!

The Hardball Times Joins FanGraphs

I’m pleased to announce that The Hardball Times will be joining the FanGraphs family.

The Hardball Times has a long-standing tradition of excellent baseball writing and research, and we’re extremely happy to have them as part of our team. Dave Studeman and I plan on continuing the excellent tradition of bringing talented researchers to a broader audience.

THT will continue to operate as a separate site, keeping intact the strong THT brand. Over time we’ll make some changes and more tightly integrate the two sites as we see fit.

We’re really excited about the great work that will come out of our combined organizations.

Dave Studeman’s THT announcement can be found here.

Introducing FanGraphs Q&A

FanGraphs has had some sort of user forums since it started and generally it’s a place where people go to ask questions about either the site, fantasy baseball, or sabermetrics in general.

Today we’re launching FanGraphs Q&A, which will hopefully allow for better discussion and allow for good answers to questions to be found much more easily than in the past.

To kick things off, we’re moving our RotoGraphs fantasy mailbag to FanGraphs Q&A where our RotoGraphs team will continue to answer questions and the rest of the FanGraphs community will also be able to chime in and help too.

The Game: April Recap

It’s already been one full month since FanGraphs: The Game started. We think it’s been a great first month, with over 10,641 players already created and 75,918 manual picks (plus 34,493 autopicks) entered in total.

Don’t forget: it’s not too late to create your own player. There are still 152 days left in the season, which means your player can play 152 games if you started today. That’s easily enough to give you a chance at the top prize. Not to mention there are weekly, monthly, and half-season awards.

You can join the fun anytime to compete against your friends with our custom leagues even if the top prize for the year is out of reach.

Now let’s give kudos to the positional awards winners for the month of April (with March included).
