Position Overview:
Analysts with the Phillies are tasked with maximizing organizational impact, in pursuit of building a consistent World Series contender. As a Performance Analyst in the Foundational Research department, you tackle baseball’s most difficult problems in biomechanics, strength and conditioning, and athletic training, leveraging proprietary data sources to systematically improve player evaluation, development, performance, and health at scale.

You work closely with technical staff and performance specialists in Baseball Operations to outline a strategic vision for the future of performance research at the Phillies. You internalize cutting-edge insights from the Phillies’ Research & Development department in player evaluation and development, leveraging those insights in performance research that is effortlessly additive to our existing player acquisition and development paradigms.

Success in this role would involve improving our existing player evaluation tools, identifying novel and high-value avenues of high performance research, building systems to improve the efficiency and value of player assessment data collection, and seeing an integrative, best-in-class baseball performance process incorporated in organizational decision-making, spanning player acquisition and player development.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct and oversee performance research projects and manage the integration of their outputs into our proprietary tools and applications, in direct support of player evaluation, acquisition, development, and performance maximization
• Ensure projects conform to best practices for implementing, maintaining, and improving predictive models throughout their life cycles
• Communicate with front office executives, scouts, coaches, and medical staff to design and interpret statistical studies
• Assist the rest of the Foundational Research and Integrative Baseball Performance teams with their projects by providing guidance and feedback on your areas of expertise
• Continually enhance your and your colleagues’ knowledge of baseball and data science through reading, research, and discussion with your teammates and the rest of the front office
• Provide input in architecting the storage, ingestion, display, and analysis of baseball assessment data
• Rigorously identify and vet novel data sources, collection methodologies, or technologies that could be additive to our processes, supporting the organization in implementing them in a scientifically and statistically robust manner

Required Qualifications

• Deep understanding of statistics, including supervised and unsupervised learning, regularization, model assessment and selection, model inference and averaging, ensemble methods, etc.
• Demonstrated experience in handling, analyzing, and interpreting high-performance data in sports
• Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python, statistical software (R, S-Plus, SAS, or similar), and databases (SQL)
• Demonstrated experience designing, constructing, implementing, and leading technical research projects for use by non-technical stakeholders
• Proven willingness to both teach others and learn new techniques
• Willingness to work as part of a team on complex projects
• Proven leadership and self-direction 

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior knowledge of motion capture and other technologies is a strong plus but not required

2023 Cape Cod Baseball League Trackman Operator

Description:
TrackMan leverages industry leading 3D doppler radar + vision tracking technology to capture the most comprehensive and accurate ball tracking data in the game

TrackMan data is used for player evaluation and development by all Major League teams in the US and the majority of teams in Japan and Korea, as well as a majority of top NCAA D1 programs.

TrackMan & Cape Cod League are seeking highly motivated and detail-oriented candidates to operate the TrackMan System at various Cape Cod locations. These individuals will be responsible for running the TrackMan system for all Cape Cod games. The duties require that this role arrive at least one half-hour before first pitch and continue to the final out. This position runs from June 5th – August 12th, with the season opener June 10th. Proper Training will be provided by TrackMan prior to the first game.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for setting up rosters and tagging information using TrackMan software.
• Log information for the entire game – monitoring the system and making any changes throughout the game (i.e., roster changes, defensive substitutions, etc.).
• Assist in troubleshooting system issues with Trackman support, fixing any errors, and uploading the data to TrackMan at the conclusion of each game.
• Maintain TrackMan equipment required for tagging. 
• Support the TrackMan data operations teams in ad-hoc data requests and evaluations.
• Ensure quality of the data that is captured (Player, play result, pitch call accuracy, etc.)
• Optional side projects throughout the summer (Creating leaderboards, models using Trackman data, etc.)

Qualifications:

• Current college student or recent graduate focused on Sports Management, Statistics / Mathematics, Operations Management, Sports Analytics or similar.
• Strong computer skills with ability to operate the system and/or troubleshoot issues.
• A firm understanding of baseball is required.
• Candidate must be able to make all home games, which will include nights and weekends. (June 10 – August 12)

Product Design Associate, Baseball Systems

Location: Citi Field – Queens, New York

Job Description:
The New York Mets are seeking a Product Design Associate. This designer will work with Baseball Systems to help design the user experience of mobile and web applications that enrich the Mets data ecosystem and inform decision-making within Baseball Operations. This position requires a designer that is comfortable designing low- and high-fidelity mockups for a wide array of stakeholders within Baseball Operations. The ideal candidate would have a strong grasp of modern design tools with prior experience rapid prototyping and working collaboratively within a software engineering team. Prior experience in or knowledge of baseball is a plus but is not required.

Pay Rate:
$18.15/hr

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Day-to-day design production working with product managers, engineers, and designers, leveraging our design system to maintain brand consistency across products and optimize the full product life cycle
• Create UX related design assets such as wireframes, sitemaps, user stories, user journeys, and prototypes to help illustrate solutions
• Take part in qualitative and quantitative data collection across the organization to validate the development and adoption of new tools and features
• Stay up to date on UX/UI best practices, patterns, and disciplines
• Take part in design reviews and feedback sessions where you will present your work as well as provide feedback to others
• A willingness to learn, and a hunger to problem solve

Qualifications:

• 1+ years of relevant experience in UX or product design
• Portfolio of UX and product design projects with an eye toward process and collaboration
