Combined FanGraphs and BeerGraphs Meetup
BeerGraphs — a website devoted to the analytics of beer — is now alive. Very soon it will have sortable leaderboards and everything. And it’s been too long since we had a FanGraphs meetup anyway, so let’s do another one. Where better to have a top-flight beer and watch some good baseball than the Public House attached to AT&T Park in San Francisco? Please come and talk baseball (or beer) with our merry band:
June 7, four until ?, Public House at AT&T Park, San Francisco
Eno Sarris (FanGraphs, BeerGraphs)
Howard Bender (FanGraphs)
Wendy Thurm (FanGraphs)
Steve Berman (Bay Area Sports Guy)
Grant Brisbee (SBN)
King Kaufman (Bleacher Report)
Patrick Newman (NPBTracker)
Ian Miller (Productive Outs)
Adam Cacioppo (BeerGraphs)
Aram Cretan (Freewheel Brewing)
Rob Conticello (Clandestine Brewing)
Adrian Kalaveshi (Clandestine Brewing)
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
San Fran is hella far from NYC… not sure what you wanna do with that statement but it felt like it needed to be said
Wahgraphs
We’ll do an NYC thing in September it looks like. Chicago in July. Working with writers on other dates.
If you hit up Chicago, I’ll bring some tasty beers to share. Heady Topper?
I’m from Munster, Indiana….so I can promise some premium Three Floyds stuff. I’ll try to get some Zombie Dust and definitely Gumballhead.
I’m all in on the NYC meetup.
Whinegraphs
Awwww man, ya gotta pick the day I head out to Minneapolis for a wedding?
IN!
This is exciting due to baseball and friendship. Prepare to be awkwardly interacted with as I drink beer nervously.
This.
Just think how awkward it’d be without the beer.
In this line. Prepare for me to loosen up and be social for the hour and fifteen minute window directly preceding my inevitable beer-driven decline
I’m pretty sure I remember you from last time.
Is Cistulli washing his hair that day?
In Madison Wisconsin, and yes.
Oh man, I move out of the country for 3 years on June 10, I’m going to have to do everything I can to get there. Beer!
I don’t visit Bleacher Report very often. But from what I know of it, is it safe to assume that King Kaufman is terrible?
Hey now. King came over from Salon to bring some respectability to the thing. He’s a great guy and fine writer.
Not in this case!
Totally unsafe to assume that. King rules. (heh.)
Eno, wifey gave you a hall pass? What time does it start? Gotta have the kids in bed by 9…
BeerGraphs.Com: making everyone hate white people since 2013 (TM)
I feel snubbed, Eno.
There is a Public House in Chicago where you pour your own beer right at your table. Every table has a 3 tap tower with 2 beers and 1 liquor. It is pay per ounce. It was pretty awesome. When I saw this, I thought it might be a chain. Eveidently it isn’t.
I’ve seen a few tap systems like that in Philly. It’s a great concept, I’ve just never found one that poured beer I wanted to drink…
That was the issue here too. Most tables had one American Lager/ Light, one “Premium” distributed by the same company (e.g. Budweiser & Stella), and a liquor. They did have an extensive craft beer list at the bar, but that took the fun out of it. Thus, I searched and found the one anomaly; a table with Bell’s Brown Ale.
/sits in the midwest, alone and jealous
And quite frankly a bit dorky.
Just a bit? I’ll take it!
You’re not alone, I just live in the suburbs 🙂
Holy shit, I’m actually in town for a Fangraphs meetup! Should I bring a d20 and pocket calculator?
L&P is going to be there? Well now I want to go too. I will be the uncool person not drinking beer, I guess.
Holy carp, YES!
Oh yes. I’m actually in town for this from FARAWAY CANADA.
NO WAY.
This is really too bad because I will be in SF June 8-9 but not the 7th
ScotchGraphs! When are you going to launch ScotchGraphs!?
Really? No love for ScotchGraphs? That’s disappointing.
No love for whiskeygraphs? Gotta appeal to bourbon aficionados too
I’m noticing that the M/9 (males per 9) of this so-called “merry band” is a robust 9.0. any chance we can extend the invite to Jaymee Sire, or perhaps Erin Andrews for some national coverage of the event? After all, it is 2013, and I’m pretty sure we’ve evolved from the McGwire-Sosa “chicks dig the long ball” days to “chicks dig underlying peripherals as more accurate predictors of future performance,” am I wrong? Speaking of which, that would be a great t-shirt…
Looks like Ruhee from Doubleswitching.com will be there! And we might get Wendy Thurm from FanGraphs to come by again if she’s not mad at me.
excellent!
I asked Eno to watch my kids so I could go and he said no. So yeah, I’m mad at him.
Oh! Because this is pertinent information to our readers — all ages are allowed into the Public House. It’s a brewpub with food. The Mexican place will not be open on this day, but they have their own food. So, bring em!
I’ll watch your kids.
Do your kids prefer scotch or bourbon, and what are their opinions on Slayer?
I don’t think she can contest the genius of Reign in Blood, but the rest of their discography…. eh…
No respect for Hell Awaits, echo? For shame.
dont forget about Kate Longsworth!
But [my city here]!(Seattle please) wants this the most!
All the graphs please.
Sounds like fun, I’m in.
Have we considered Pittsburgh?
Philly! We have Monks Cafe, widely considered a top 10 place for beer nationwide. Food isn’t too bad either. Now we just need the Phillies to stop being so old and over paid.
Coming to my first fangraphs meet up! Very very excited 🙂
I will be in Chicago the second week of July. Just sayin’.
Detroi/Ann Arbor.
Let’s goooooooo!!!
Detroit/Ann Arbor.
Let’s goooooooo!!!
count me in +1
Is Beergraphs gonna make it to Seattle we have a copious amount of micro brews here
Can’t make it down in time from work up here in the land of Pliny. Make sure to grab a few of those if the Public House still has them.
You guys ever do these things in the PNW?
I am so jealous! I want to talk baseball over a craft beer. You know Michigan has fantastic craft beers and The Copa is a great place to watch baseball in the summer!
Next on my agenda is combing Matthew berry to let me buy him a drink after his book signing in Skokie. Who can make it happen 🙂
*convincing
I can understand people not wanting to be combed by strangers. Stupid iPhone
