Hey, Gomes just referenced WAR!
Yeah, bit of a middle finger to Sabrmetrics? From a guy with a lifetime WAR around 6 in 10 years.
Incidentally, his name pops up 2nd behind David Ortiz in trending search.
Yes, the curse is definitely dead, so let’s stop talking about it. Boston always finds a way to manufacture adversity. You spent nearly $160M this year. Get over it!
Cool story bro…are we starting with you? You know, the guy who brought it up.
To be fair it was mentioned at the end of the article.
Yes Chief. Read the article before responding…
Lol Boston sux
Don’t be a hater all your life a**hole… I bleed Boston… Can wait to wear this shirt in your FACE YEA!!!! Boston Strong World Series Champs edition.
A true battle of wits right here.
You were correct by half.
Feeding the trolls …. Boston style ! Yeah !!
Ugh. My Facebook is now filled with statuses like “World Champions! From last to first, we’re World Champions again. Boston Strong.” from people who “didn’t like baseball” this time last year.
Wow, that exact status was on my feed. Verbatim.
There was a sentence in the middle about the bombing, but I left it out since I’m still annoyed by it/I’m currently making fun of the kid who wrote it for being a pink hat.
Why does it always seem like the teams with the worst fanbases in baseball go all the way: Phillies, Yankees, Giants, Cardinals, Red Sox. Make it stop please, Pirates or Rays.
It’s the other way around. Teams that go all the way have the worst fanbases.
Hey! What’s wrong with the Giants fanbase?
Well aside from being internet All-Star game ballot stuffers.
that part is hella awesome, though.
Yeah, they get shot by Raiders fans, not the other way around.
Are you familiar with the Rays fanbase? The thing is, sports fans are just the worst.
you mean Larry?
Yeah that glorious Rays fanbase who won’t support their team despite years of success. Terrific fans they have.
As a Red Sox fan I agree we have become as spoiled and obnoxious as Yankees fans, especially with this latest success after a period that humbled us a bit.
I suppose Rays fans are just too poor to get to the park, or that the stadium is just so lousy or inconveniently located, but I see little evidence to support the notion they have a better fan base than other teams, even if they do watch on TV.
I look forward to the day the Rays move to Havana
Speak for yourself broke boy.
as chief keef would say .. ” you clique full of broke boys , we 3hunna dope boys ..”
Have become? The only difference between Yankees and Red Sox fans since 2004 is that Red Sox fans still pretend that the fanbase isn’t full of spoiled and obnoxious children who feel that the season is a failure if they don’t win the WS.
You guys have been as bad as we Yankees fans for 10 years at this point, you just haven’t admitted it.
Those genteel and lovable Pirates fans you speak of? They’re also boisterously obnoxious Steeler fans. The difference? One team has had success and the other hasn’t.
Success increases the volume of fans, and that phrase can and should be taken both ways.
Ach! These grapes are so sour!
Great fanbase definition –
The fans of a middle market team who only show up to games when the team is winning.
Really want to put your hat on the city of Pittsburgh being the model sports-fan city? Check some Penguins attendance figures before and after Crosby.
I would legitimately go to war with Gomes. That crazy son of a bitch.
By “war” do you mean you’d accept millions of dollars to wear pajamas and play a game in front of millions of adoring fans?
Would you go to war with him illegitimately?
Where?
Oh. Oohh.
Thanks, Dave. I appreciate it. I really worked hard to help the Sox win this year.
Did I ever mention how much I loved the Lackey signing?
Let’s all just give up trying to make preseason predictions. I don’t think anyone had the BoSox.
also, in the rare place it might be appropriate… #6org.
Also, one curse is alive and well. Remember SI declaring Stephen Strasburg to be “Mr. October” back in March and telling us how the Nationals “will” win the World Series? Ha!
The Curse Of Rocky Colavito is still going strong
Might shoulda used him last year when they were in the postseason…
Buck Foston
YEA!!!! Can’t wait until the parade. I’m going to be there.. Just ordered my shirt from here.. It’s pretty cool too Boston Dynasty World Champions Tee/bgwxf
3 WS in ten years = “dynasty”?
*Giggle snort*
And 4 players from 2007 on the 2013 team, with only 2 being actual key parts of both teams (Pedroia and Ortiz)
Lester pitched in game 4 of the world series in 2007. I’d consider him to be a pretty big part.
4th starters usually don’t get billed as key pieces. And would he have started that game if the Sox weren’t up 3-0? He pitched 3.2 innings the rest of the post season that year and was entirely mediocre during the regular season that year in limited appearances.
The Red Sox were a well-constructed team, built as a long-sequence offence with a good defence. Relatively few people (myself included) appreciated how much the Victorino signing made sense and fit in with the plan- it is particularly valuable to have speed in right-field given the layout of Fenway. There was, of course, much more to it than that.
Congrats Boston! The best part of this is seeing the Yankee bunch cry.
Also, Bobby Valentine will never, ever, ever, ever get another manager job.
Not true!
American MLB manager*
Congrats Boston–thanks to your fanbase, I now hate you more than the Yankees.
You are now the evil empire. Enjoy!
I agree. We’re equally terrible, but we don’t pretend otherwise.
I am surprised at how small the dip is after the Holiday walk in the 7th. The dip in my comfort level was much greater. But no matter…it all worked out!
