Injury Reports
Freeman Injures Knee, Out Maybe Two Weeks
Atlanta first baseman Freddie Freeman has a sublux (partial dislocation) of the right kneecap after being injured during a fielding drill near the end of Tuesday’s workout, reports David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution almost verbatim. MLB.com’s Mark Bowman notes that the injury occurred as Freeman was attempting to pick a low throw out of the dirt and might force the Braves first baseman to miss upwards of two weeks — i.e. how long it took him to recover after suffering a similar injury in May 2010 at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Seattle’s Gutierrez Injures Right Pectoral
Seattle Mariners center fielder Franklin Gutierrez, who was limited to 92 games in 2011 due both to digestive issues and an oblique injury, hurt his right pectoral muscle while making a throw from the outfield on Tuesday, reports MLB.com’s Greg Johns. Gutierrez has a career +20.5 UZR/150 in 3552.2 innings as a center fielder — making him a slightly above-average major leaguer on the basis of his fielding alone. Johns reports elsewhere that Gutierrez was scheduled to have an MRI on Tuesday afternoon. The most likely replacements for Gutierrez are probably some combination of Trayvon Robinson and Michael Saunders.

Trumbo Cleared for Baseball Activities
Angels’ maybe third baseman Mark Trumbo (foot) has been cleared to resume full baseball activities, reports MLB.com’s Alden Gonzalez. Our Matt Klaassen recently wrote about Trumbo, Alberto Callaspo, and the Angels’ third base situation.

Other Assorted Headlines
San Francisco Emphasizing Running Game, Maybe
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants are putting extra emphasis on running the bases this year. This is very possibly just one of those things that is said during spring training. It could also be an actual thing upon which the Giants are trying to improve. In either case, let it be known that San Francisco finished seventh in the majors last season, at 4.2 baserunning runs above average.

Very Interesting Banks Signs with Baltimore
SB Nation’s Jeff Sullivan wants you to know, like, seven things about right-hander Josh Banks, who signed with Baltimore on Tuesday.

Texas Signs Dominican Outfielder Beras for $4.5 Million
The Texas Rangers signed 17-year-old Dominican outfielder Jairo Beras for $4.5 million — a story about which MLB Trade Rumors has more information.

No preview for today’s Phillies-FSU game? I’m very disappointed.
