Nerds Stats for Canadia’s Provisional WBC Team
It has come to the attention of the author that a certain number of this site’s readers are from Canada. In not entirely unrelated news, certain representatives from Canada have recently announced that country’s provisional roster for the World Baseball Classic (which itself begins in early March).
Below are the members of that roster, accompanied by various nerd stats.
Here, first, are the pitchers on the Canadian team with major-league experience (although, it should be noted that Adam Loewen is no longer a pitcher):

• Reliever Phillippe Aumont and outfielder Tyson Gillies were both traded from Seattle to Philadelphia as part of the Cliff Lee trade.
• Outfielder (né pitcher) Adam Loewen recently signed with the Toronto Blue Jays, a team that is actually located in Canada.

C’mon, Carson, you can do better. We need a “distance from birthplace to US border” stat for each of the players. You can choose whether it is in kilometers or miles.
It was a biting 59 degrees Fahrenheit in Toronto this past weekend, but it was a dry cold. We managed to survive without the usual sweater under our parkas.
Is Jay Johnson not on the roster?
It’s still spring inside the O’s and A’s.
They provide protective cover from the elements.
And yet the Big O, notoriously, failed repeatedly in its role of providing protective cover to the Expos, among others.

Loving the Canada post! I’m from New Brunswick, which is hardly visible on the map and has a population of well less than a million people, despite having the surface area of the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg added together.

I’m not sure about a knuckle ball, but Nash certainly could play baseball. He’s got great hand / eye coordination. I’ve heard several west coast scouts rave about Nash as a prospect ( he gave the game up at age 16 ).
The great story of course was Canadian MLB scouting coordinator Walt Burrows telling Nash after his very successful freshmen year at Santa Clara that he should ditch basketball and concentrate on his best sport baseball. The baseball team wanted him badly, in fact Randy Winn played both hoops and baseball for the Broncos, and most considered Nash the better baseball prospect.
That should read, Randy Winn played basketball at the same time as Nash for the Broncos.

I implore you, when evaluating meteorological humour in the future, be it related to Canada or not, to employ the 20-80 scouting scale. Note that, under the current circumstances, your estimate for the humour score could probably stand under the more appropriate scale.

Yes, but there’s a conversion factor: subtract 32 and then multiply by 5/9.
Or just scale it so the bottom of the range comes out at 40 below.
