Crowdsourcing Radio Broadcasters: The First 29 Ballots
Recently, we released the results of our television broadcaster rankings — itself the product of reader crowdsourcing that started in late November. Now, FanGraphs is asking readers to rate the radio broadcast teams for all 30 major-league clubs (Click here for more on this project.)

Voting for radio broadcasts will end at approximately noon on Sunday.

Unfortunately, today’s free game isn’t particularly intriguing. Of some note, perhaps, is the recent play of Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez. He hit his seventh home run of the season on Thursday at St. Louis, giving him this rather unusual line so far on the season: 74 PA, .257/.297/.614 (.282 BABIP), 147 wRC+. Alavrez has struck out in 32.4% of his plate appearances. He has almost twice as many homers as walks (four), and nearly 50% of his 18 hits have been home runs.

The Royals currently own the youngest average batter age (26.8) in the majors and the fourth-lowest payroll (ca $61 million), and yet have above-average numbers per wRC+ (103) and WAR (4.3 for batters/fielders as of Thursday, good for 10th overall in majors).

Zack Greinke (29.2 IP, 81 xFIP-, 1.0 WAR) faces Tim Lincecum (26.2 IP, 94 xFIP-, 0.5 WAR). Of note: both clubs have lost key players of late. San Francisco third baseman Pablo Sandoval is out for four-to-six weeks with a broken hamate bone, Milwaukee first baseman Mat Gamel for the season with a torn ACL. Conor Gillaspie and Brooks Conrad, respectively, should serve as replacements.
