Dan Szymborski: Well, for one, he wasn’t suspended for 2013 PED use, the Biogenesis suspensions were for previous use. We’ve already seen him for a season after his PED use and he’s been tested multiple times.

When you do your FA evaluation, what do you do with inflation? If you do inflation yearly, does that mean that a player who puts up 1, 2, 3, 4 WAR is more valuable than a guy who goes 4, 3, 2, 1?

What was up with Giants offense? 100 runs less than 2012, dropping from 12th to 21st. Virtually same BB%, BABIP, K% ISO, wRC+. Not sequencing, actually had higher wOBA/wRC+ with RISP in 2013.

Peralta signing was an overpay, but the available trade options were worse overpays. Cardinals have payroll flexibility and used some of it to upgrade their worst position. So, it looks like a bad deal without context but is very reasonable in the big picture.

THANK YOU for pointing out that Peralta’s suspension was for pre-2013 (most likely in 2012). That has been the biggest gap in the whole Biogenesis narrative–no one seems to notice that most of that group (Peralta and Cruz most notably) had down years in 2012 and rebounded under greater scrutiny from MLB in 2013.

Regarding Cards’ “ultra-intelligent moves”: I’m a Cards fan, and obviously I’m pleased with my FO. I was only disputing the poster’s claim that we had some kind of streak going. The Cardinals last 4 moves IIRC were Peralta, Bourjos, Axford, Wigginton. Looks like one great move, 2 decent ones and one clear dud. Not exactly a great streak.
