Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 1/25/18

12:56
Eno Sarris:

12:02
Matt: What’s your take on Ohtani’s cost in ottoneu? I initially put a $20-25 band on him at first pass, but now I’m wondering if I’m at least $10-15 low after reading reports…

12:02
Eno Sarris: I dunno. I mean, I’m excited, you’re excited, he just had elbow surgery last year and probably can’t throw more than 150 innings. I think James Paxton level is about right.

12:02
Blue Jay Matt: What’s your favourite type of cheese? Don’t say melted…

12:03
Eno Sarris: Just to like, pick up and eat? Emmenthaler, Gruyere — swiss.

12:03
Blue Jay Matt: What’s your snack food of choice?

12:03
Eno Sarris: I try not to snack since I eat sandwiches and drink beer.

12:03
The Man They Couldn’t Hang: Tyler Chatwood is now interesting, yes?

12:04
Eno Sarris: He always was, but he’s more fantasy interesting this year. Still a final pitcher type guy. Have a casual over under bet on his ERA at 3.75 with Zimm.

12:04
Blue Jay Matt: Given the choice do you prefer prospects who have a high ceiling but low chance of making it or lower ceiling but almost certain to get there?

12:04
Eno Sarris: I go for floor.

12:04
WormsleyCommonGang: I’m getting married in May – and I can’t think of a song for the Mother/Son dance. Any ideas from you or these luders here?

12:04
Eno Sarris: We did Talking Heads because of the Eno connection and the fact that both sets of parents liked them. Dunno if you have that type of music available to you with your parents.

12:05
ChicagoCardinal: Eno, what would you put the chances of Luis Castillo becoming a top 10 pitcher at? I know Sporer thinks he’s top 5 now, but I’m looking for a clear-eyed view.

12:05
Eno Sarris: Biggest problem is command. Might have some fits and starts like a Carrasco type, that’s the type of comp I see.

12:05
Danny: Is Gary Sanchez the best catcher in baseball?

12:05
Eno Sarris: Offensively, yes.

12:05
Phil: Choose 4,  Trout, Goldy, Altuve, Sale, G Sanchez

12:05
Eno Sarris: First four I guess. Jeez.

12:05
WormsleyCommonGang: Eddie Rosario – you a believer in his ability to be a top LF this year in fantasy?

12:06
Eno Sarris: He actually added launch angle late in the season, among league leaders in added angle. Something about his approach leaves me cold, but he seems athletic and has a job…

12:07
2-D: If you called the shots how would you handle Josh Hader this season?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Start him.

12:07
Craig: As currently constructed, who wins a 7 game series, Yankees or Astros?

12:08
Eno Sarris: All of us. And, if they all healthy, maybe the Yankees?

12:08
Rob: Dustin Fowler had that horrible knee injury last year.  Being that he is fast, if he gets the cf job, what kind of sb totals are realistic?

12:08
Eno Sarris: He just hasn’t been such a volume guy in the minors. I’d be conservative and give him 20.

12:09
Shawn: Which fringe contender can help themselves the most by signing one of the big FA? I’m thinking Mil or Win w/ Darvish or Arrieta

12:09
Eno Sarris: Or Minnesota, or is that “win” maybe. Yeah the Twins made it far without a staff, a pitcher would be good, but so would like three more.

12:09
Eno Sarris: I mean, yes, they did have Trevor Hildenberger.

12:10
Luzinski’sSweatyGooch: Eno, just so you know, if you leave fangraphs to do a beer thing full time I can and will punch you in the dick. You won’t even see it coming. I’ll just be all like, “Hey Eno, what’s the capital of Thailand?” and before you can answer I’ll just uppercut ya right in the donger

12:10
Eno Sarris: Won’t be a beer thing, I promise!

12:10
Tears for Fears: Would the Pirates be open to trading Felipe Rivero or do you think he stays put for now?

12:11
Eno Sarris: For a ransom maybe. But, judging from their returns on their deals, they went for guys that are in the bigs or close and have years of control. Seeing those Steamer projections for cole and Musgrove, I think they are high fiving that they just basically got Cole back plus a third baseman and more years of control. Just a guess.

12:11
WormsleyCommonGang: When does ATC come out?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Soon. They’re good projections. I have an early run of the AL in my hands now.

12:12
Mel: Do you foresee a players strike?

12:12
Eno Sarris: I foresee strife, dunno about strike.

12:12
Jimmy: We know there are a lot of factors slowing down this year’s free agent market.  One theory I have not read about on this sight is perhaps the escalating asking prices are an economic bubble of sorts, and we are seeing that bubble start to deflate.  Thoughts?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Is this because they’re worried about TV deals? I think they just signed TV deals. Dunno, the income part of the equation doesn’t seem to have any warts, it’s mostly just the paying out part.

12:13
Luzinski’sSweatyGooch: I notice you take a lot of pee breaks during these chats. A simple solution is to just kiss in mason jars and leave these around the house for your wife to collect at her leisure. See? Simple solution with absolutely zero downside, am I right?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Sometimes I’m looking for music. At ten today, I’ll be trying to buy LCD Soundsystem tickets for a second.

12:13
Danny: Didi’s numbers have risen each year. Do you see more possible improvement from him? Where does he rank as a SS for you?

12:14
Eno Sarris: didi also raised his angle! I think he can hit 25 again.

12:14
Sonny: The new Die Hard reboot stars Dave Cameron in the Bruce Willis role and he’s fighting through dozens of henchmen to end AJ Prellers phone call with Scott Boras about Hosmer

12:14
hscer: I just can’t believe Orlando Hudson couldn’t get a single vote

12:15
Albert Built This Puj: What do you think about Daniel Castro?
I think that he’s great, I think he’s the best
Yeah, I think he’s better than Zack Cozart
I think he’s better than Cal Ripken

12:15
Eno Sarris: Innnerlude.

12:15
Clay Achin’: what kind of condish u rockin these days, dawg? L’Oreal, Herbal Essences, other?

12:15
Eno Sarris: DEVA CARE  4 liFE baBY

12:16
Lawrence: Bigger concern, Jeff Wilpon’s comments 2 days ago or his absurd haircut?

12:16
Eno Sarris: If the dude that owns the Raiders is any guide, the haircut.

12:16
Clay Achin’: What average salary does a fantasy baseball writer pull in yearly?

12:16
Eno Sarris: it’s not great. Be kind.

12:17
groucho: Which of the big name free agents left (JDM, Cain, Hosmer, Moose, Darvish, Arrieta) signs for the biggest discount, as compared to their perceived signing amounts at the beginning of the offseason?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Moose? The market for him might be the smallest. Or Hosmer.

12:18
Eno Sarris:

12:18
Slurve: You have only 10 choices to vote for the Baseball Hall of Fame and you use one on Carlos Lee?!  That should be grounds for dismissal…

12:18
Eno Sarris: It’s so absurd that there are only ten possible choices.

12:18
John Doe: Who makes it to the show first: Robles or Honeywell? Any chance both don’t see the bigs until Sept?

12:19
Eno Sarris: With the Rays, anything is possible. With both guys, there are different reasons they may end up taking their time. Nationals have three pretty good outfielders.

12:20
Clay Achin’: any truth to the rumours about Oprah as Mets new 3B?

12:20
Eno Sarris: AND YOU GET A BASE HIT AND YOU GET A BASE HIT

12:20
Ryan: Happy Thursday Enos. Do you see any mid-tier pitchers in the AL making the leap into a top 10 commodity?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Aaron Sanchez could do it at any time. Blake Snell showed some stuff late last season with the slider. Lance McCullers of course.

12:22
Lougle: In an auction how much are you throwing at Gohara in a 12-team standard mixed, assuming he gets a rotation spot?

12:22
Eno Sarris: I’d like to reflect the risk by signing him to 5-7 bucks or so.

12:22
Dan: Or more specifically, what are your expectations for Walker in 2018?

12:23
Eno Sarris: More or less the same.

12:23
Ken: Fill in the blank? James Paxton will be a top ___ starting pitcher this year.

12:23
Eno Sarris: On talent, top 20. Innings? Dunno?

12:23
Rose: Would AJ Ramos beat 1/9 mil as a FA?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Yes, at least in years and total outlay.

12:24
Eno Sarris: that was a piss

12:24
Jonathan: Hi Eno, what’s your current view of Nimmo? Before the Bruce sigining, I was hoping we’d get to see him spread his wings.

12:24
Eno Sarris: Plus plate discipline, could be elite. Average power. Could be a CF while young. This is a good player.

12:25
Rob: I did my first NFBC 50 round draft and hold last year and did not do well.  What do you think is the optimal batter/pitcher split?  I went with very few bench bats thinking that if my offense wasn’t good, replacment batters wouldn’t help that much.   They were not good.  Bad strategy?

12:26
Eno Sarris: I think you probably need to spend five ‘lottery’ type picks on bench bats. Guys that could play their best and take a spot from a starter. Otherwise, yeah, my bench would be 75% arms too.

12:26
Llewelyn: The current giants team reminds me a little bit of the 2010 team. Mostly washed up veterans but also a pretty solid collection of established talent. Then again that team was seemingly such an anomaly

12:26
Eno Sarris: Someone has to try to be okay.

12:26
Jieful Utterance: Boom biddly whoa o o

12:26
Eno Sarris: …

12:27
Scruffy-Looking Nerf Hurler: Was just told by my medical professional to start taking something for my reflux. I know you’ve got your issues with it, do you jut drink beer anyways? Did you change how many and what kinds?  I need help!!

12:28
Eno Sarris: I’m still not into taking a pill daily. You’re suppressing your proton pumps all over your body, not just in your gut. I’ve been taking some apple cider vinegar before big meals, and taking nexium right before bedtime on days where I know I strayed, and then otherwise staying away from raw onions, garlic, tomato sauce, cheese too late, and really fatty and oily foods. It’s been a little better.

12:29
Eno Sarris: On the beer front, I’m careful with the bigger beers — alcohol and calories — and mostly drinking lighter beers.

12:29
Clay Achin’: Kakie Baker friended me on napster

12:29
Nert K Kisblad: Mom and lude don’t go well together.

12:29
Sleepy: RE:  mother/son wedding dance

12:30
Sleepy: “Simple Man” by Skynyrd.  You’re welcome.

12:30
Eno Sarris: proved Nert wrong!

12:30
North Side Nihilists: How was the Hannibal/Thundercat show back in December?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Pretty amazing. Great music, funny comedy, really good beers, met up with cool people.

12:30
Brad: How are you approaching pitching last year?  Seems like the rage is the getting kershaw/sale/scherzer/kluber really early.  I thought your strategy of getting two in your tier 2 last year will work well again this year.

12:31
Eno Sarris: I might want to get three in the top two tiers, which might mean getting one in the third round, but I’m still a little nervous about spending a second round pick on an ace over 30.

12:31
Ryan: Your thoughts on the 4 that got into the HOF yesterday?

12:32
Eno Sarris: I know the arguments against Hoffman. They make sense. But I’m not sure we’re amazing at valuing relievers, Hoffman is one of the best relievers of all time, and we don’t have a ton of relievers in the hall. I’m fine with Hoffman.

12:33
Eno Sarris: Chipper? I grew up in Atlanta for a big part of my childhood. Chipper was amazing. I remember being excited for him before he arrived. I remember debating if he could play short. I remember being devastated about the knee injuries. I remember being awestruck that he could do the same thing from either side of the plate. He, and Vlad, were one of the first players that I remember actually thinking, while they were playing, that these guys were Hall of Famers.

12:34
Eno Sarris: Thome? Thome thwocks taters. I’m a little surprised about him being a first ballot guy, but I think that’s as much about the ballot around him, and all the arguments about steroids, as it is about his actual accomplishments.

12:34
Guest: To avoid luxury tax problems, would a player or team be less likely to make a contract for more money over a really long time.  Prior to signing A Jackson, say Cain to SF for 25 years at 4 million per year?

12:35
Eno Sarris: I think the team would be into it. The player, not so much. Inflation erodes a lot of the value of those later years.

12:35
Zach: Ohtani vs McCullers…may be facing this decision in a keeper league if owner at pick 1.01 goes off the board. Where do you stand wrt to two talented, yet risky, right handed AL West arms?

12:35
Eno Sarris: I love McCullers and I guess I’ll take the wild card here. McCullers just about as injury risky.

12:35
Scott: Is Cueto a bounce-back candidate for this year? Do we have a definitive answer on his struggles last year?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Blister, forearm issues. I think it was health. Projections never loved him because he does things that don’t show up (deception, stop the running game), so I like him better than his projections.

12:36
Luke : Thoughts on pickles as a sandwich moistener? I’m a sauce-aholic but they aren’t very healthy and I tried a ciabatta, turkey, salami, gouda, pickles sandwich and damn! Very tasty and not dry.

12:36
Eno Sarris: I’m a fan. I know some people HATE pickles, though.

12:37
BK: Keeping playing time in mind, who has a better season: Albies or Acuna?

12:37
Eno Sarris: I’ll take Albies.

12:37
Dungeon Master: How many brews would Harmon Killebrew kill if Harmon Killebrew could kill a brew?

12:37
Brad: If you had a choice of drafting blackmon or betts this year in redraft, who would you pick?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Betts.

12:37
Bort: Are you buying Bryan Mitchell’s upside? Jeff Sullivan pegged him as a Tyler Chatwood clone.

12:38
Eno Sarris: What an interesting comp. He does have a boring high velocity fastball, don’t know the spin on Mitchell, though. Chatwood has high spin on his 4s. I think I’d like Mitchell to throw the breaker a ton.

12:38
Justino: Who is the most overrated prospect currently?

12:39
Eno Sarris: on that BA list, I don’t know that I’m feeling Mitch Keller as the 12th-best prospect. Seemed a little stiff, and people hit his curve in the AFL.

12:39
Bort: Are you buying shares in Reynaldo Lopez in 2018?

12:39
Eno Sarris: never was.

12:39
Tears for Fears: Did you take the over or the under on the Chatwood bet with Zimm?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Under.

12:39
Corb: Onions: caramelized or pickled?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Caramelized, I like sweet.

12:39
Mel: Eno, help me, the inaction of this offseason is driving me insaaaane.  What do you do to dispel the monotony???

12:39
Eno Sarris: Stare at the wall, watch Stranger Things.

12:39
groucho: The cheese section at Piazza’s in Palo Alto is off the chain

12:40
Eno Sarris: And… noted.

12:40
Sonny: Run Steamer600 and Iannetta is #3 C by wOBA. His high K, high OBP approach combined with more lift and a return to Coors = back end top 10 fantasy C?

12:40
Eno Sarris: Was just looking at him. There’s 20th-ranked downside, but the price makes him interesting. Particularly in ottoneu, where you can take three shots at trying to find one catcher.

12:40
Tony Eusebio: Do you think the A’s young core is exciting/close enough where they could justify trying to buy low on Cain? They should have some pitching help on the way this year too

12:41
Eno Sarris: Piece on The Athletic today says that their pitching is what needs the most help. I know guys are coming, but they could spend on veteran pitching in this market and get the most bang for their buck.

12:41
hscer: most home runs hit by Ruth and Gehrig combined in one season was 92. how good a chance for Judge/Stanton (including health and/or assuming ~150 games each)? next best for Ruth Gehrig was 90, 81, 81 btw

12:41
Eno Sarris: Should be able to at least rank third on that list, unless the ball changes again.

12:42
North Side Nihilists: Was excited for possible Alford sightings this year in Tor but it seems he is now buried. Does this speak to their confidence in him long-term? Or just in 2018?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Short term.

12:42
Jieful Utterance: I’m with Luzinski’sSweatyGooch

12:42
Eno Sarris: We should get our news from KatiePerrysBootyHole too.

12:42
hscer: oops I missed the 107 year in 1927. triple digits threw me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12:43
Eno Sarris: Well, that record is at risk but not likely.

12:43
Go Go Gadget Hamate Bone: The Padres’ Instagram account posted a picture of Hosmer last night with no caption. Then deleted it. And then started deleting their followers’ comments asking about it. On a scale of 1 to Padresing how lolPadres would it be for the Padres to announce their major free agent signing this way?

12:43
Eno Sarris: oh man lolmets vs lolpadres is a battle we all lose isn’t it.

12:43
Getting back in the mix : Hey Eno! I havent chatted in a while…what have you been drinking these days? Fieldwork opened a taproom down the street from me and now I’m super spoiled

12:44
Eno Sarris: A lot of Brouwerij West because their hazy IPAs have made it north. Some Mikkeller haze, too. Got an E9 sour from Tacoma that was great.

12:44
Extreme Chat Hustle: Seems as though compared to the other Fangraphs writers, you (and maybe Dan) answer an insane number of questions. Are you just smarter than the rest of them, a faster typist, on greenies, or what?

12:44
Eno Sarris: I don’t even do caffeine, man.

12:44
Noah Fence: Are you salivating over the Albies ZiPS too?

12:45
Eno Sarris: Oh man I haven’t even looked at it yet, I’m so in love, I probably shouldn’t look.

12:45
Jieful Utterance: Are you critical of the MLBPA in terms of their strategy? Is there something they should do differently between CBAs?

12:45
Eno Sarris: I do think that they focused too much on quality of life stuff. The players could have bought each team a chef if they had their free agent contracts back.

12:46
Chase Kimura: You think LoMo’s breakout is for real? Not expecting him to repeat the season he just had, but a 120+ OPS+ with 25+ home runs sound realistic? Flyball revolution, always had pretty good plate discipline.

12:46
Eno Sarris: Injury is part of the equation with him. Bad knees.

12:46
Getting back in the mix : Also, Stevie Wonder is always good for Mother/Son dance. I did Sunshine of my life

12:46
Bradley: Bottom of the 9th, Game 7, 2 outs, you’re up by 1 with a man on 2nd. A single is ripped into right field. Which right fielder do you want coming up throwing?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Vlad Guerrero.

12:46
Barry Badrinath: Are they going to keep the balls juiced this season or should we expect a huge regression in the homerun department around the league?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Bet balls are juiced, but watching Arizona and the humidor situation hard.

12:47
Willie’s Big Butt: The projections LOVE Willie Calhoun. I LOVE Willie Calhoun. I’m a Dodgers fan sad to see Willie in another uniform, but rooting for him to mash. What do you expect from him in 2018? At his peak?

12:47
Eno Sarris: Man I love watching him hit. I can’t believe the pop ups will torpedo his line.

12:47
Steve Jessop: Could the Yankees infield be a nightmare dragging down that whole team or do you have faith in all those unproven talents?

12:48
Eno Sarris: The gloves should all be okay and they have proven bats in other spots.

12:48
Inquisitive A’s Fan: What would be a better deal for Oakland? 4 years of Cain or 4 years of either Cobb or Lynn? Figure the dollars are”fair” with any of the contracts.

12:49
Eno Sarris: I think it’s Lynn actually! Fowler and Boog should be enough in center. Maybe it’s Cain. But Cain should cost more and I know that’s not in this, it has to be.

12:49
Eno Sarris: sucker for a good voice

12:50
Plato: Is it time to jump off the Daniel Norris train or do you think he’ll figure it out relatively soon?

12:50
Eno Sarris: No idea if he will, but the stuff is still there. If we’re talking dollar days I’m still into it.

12:50
John: Eno, what’s the deal with baseball twitter trying to rehab Barry Bonds public reputation? I understand it’s HOF season so he’s gonna be talked about, but there sure is a lot of “if you don’t love Barry you are an old grump” out there for a dude very credibly accused of years of spousal abuse.

12:51
Eno Sarris: Asked the dude for an interview and he asked me if I had a check for him. He’s a problematic dude. I think most people arguing for him are trying to separate the play from the man. It’s tough to make an argument for keeping Schilling out based on his views and actions and for putting Bonds in, though.

12:52
toki: Is a Swanson La Stella comp off base?  Other than the k/bb difference it seems fair.

12:52
Eno Sarris: Wait you think Swanson has bricks for hands?

12:52
Tony Eusebio: If Wilpon grew a stache he would look like the Pringles guy

12:52
Jieful Utterance: Is there anything your readers could do to make your work more enjoyable?

12:54
Eno Sarris: I would think I should ask that of you, not the other way around. You people are a source of great joy. I suppose if I was picking the nits, I could say that, you know I read the comments, if you have a complaint about something, it’s better if it comes with a suggestion about how to do it another way than just complaining. But I have no complaints.

12:54
Dr. Funk: So are you high on Flaherty and Weaver?   You’ve written interesting pieces on both which seem to to indicate that.

12:54
Eno Sarris: Yes. Flaherty less so because his fastball lacks movement and is only okay in velocity, but yes I’m interested in both guys. If Weaver’s curve gets better, watch out.

12:54
hscer: Moose was already taken by Mussina. I propose we refer to Moustakas as Mousse.

12:54
Eno Sarris: Done.

12:55
Eno Sarris: As a Stanford guy I should’ve been all over that.

12:55
Al Gone Quinn: With the 1/31 Ottoneu cut deadline looming, I’m always fighting that impulse to cut the final 3 or 4 guys from my roster to free up auction budget. Do you use any tricks to motivate yourself to wield the axe?

12:55
Eno Sarris: I think you should cut. I’ve been struggling with a few players and I think I’ll just do it.

12:56
Sonny: Passan’s article made me rethink my stance on team signings. I’ve always advocated for big market teams to sign players bc the money paid out is mostly irrelevant to them, but the fetishizing of Oak, TB, etc kind of comes to an end. Can MLB reach 55% of revenue to players with the current ownership cohort?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Not under the current rules/CBA.

12:56
Stumped in Texas: Criminally under rated tune with fabulous harmonies –about a gorgeous part of the country

12:56
Johnny5Alive: whats your thoughts on rivero as a closer vs. renfroe’s pop? nl only league, can trade a $10 rivero for a $5 renfroe.  Would then keep a $27 doolittle and a $5 morrow for saves

12:57
Eno Sarris: Good lord that seems like a lot for Doolittle?

12:57
capconstrained: How would you weight the bust/breakout cases for Jordan Montgomery?  He’s all about deception so I worry that it could go away but his command was not great last year and if he improved it he could become a 4-5 WAR pitcher.

12:57
Eno Sarris: I like his floor. Maybe like 50% about the same, 20% breakout, 30% bust?

12:59
Eno Sarris: No idea if I need to buy LCD tickets the minute they go on sale, but the Berkely greek is a great venue and my wife says she wants to go, so you may miss me for a second here.

12:59
hscer: From 1927-31, Ruth and Gehrig combined for 451 home runs. I am too staggered for comment.

12:59
stever20: what do you expect from Kluber this year?  Does his LDS performance with the possibility of injury concern you a lot?

1:00
Eno Sarris: I think there’s a decent amount of collapse possibility for a 30+ year old pitcher, and then one who has had fastball issues in the past makes me a bit nervous, but I’ve been too early on Kluber decline in the past, so I’ll shut my mouth I guess.

1:03
No, Your Name: Feels like The giants have provided the most entertainment this offseason?  Both for the Haters and the supporters?  Is that worth anything on its own?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Should buy them some early season filled seats at least

1:03
North Side Nihilists: I’m now picturing Oprah charging and barehanding a slow roller at 3rd. Her strong arm overcomes the sloppy footwork.

1:03
CamdenWarehouse: What do you think of Rodon this year?

1:03
Eno Sarris: The shoulder thing bothers me. Otherwise, he’s perennially on my list because of the plus slider, good velocity, and great change by move and velo.

1:04
Larry: You go for floor??  You want a bunch of replacement lvl grindy try hard players??  Give me ceiling baby!!!

1:04
Eno Sarris: I want guys that will make the big leagues!

1:04
Eno Sarris: I mean, this is among the top prospects. I’m not necessarily looking for the next reliever.

1:05
Corey: Do you have any 2018 Zack Godley/Jimmy Nelson pick?

1:05
Eno Sarris: Godley. Shoulders suck.

1:05
Dr. Funk: Did you happen to read the baseball prospectus article on Dominic Leone? It showed how he increased his spin rate on all his pitches in 2017.  I’m still trying to figure out the spin rate stuff. How does one have across the board increase in spin? Is spin rate the only factor for increase vertical separation on a fourseamer? Was 2017 for real based on spin alone?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Year to year spin is very sticky, but there’s also a Cubs Related article that says that it’s related to extension. So perhaps he increased his extension and changed his mechanics some? Otherwise, I’ve seen spin related to health, so maybe it was health.

1:06
Morbo: Eno I’m traveling to the Bay Area and Santa Rosa next week. Any recommendations for things to do? (Other than the Pliny the Younger release at Russian River, already planning on going)

1:08
Eno Sarris: Too cold for actually going into the Russian River, so go to Henhouse Brewing instead. Fieldwork, Rare Barrel, Cellarmaker, Almanac are the class of the area IMO. I love walking the Mission (16th, 17th, 18th between Dolores and Mission, up and down) and love Papalote burritos (higher up in the mission). Toronado’s (beer) and Rosamunde (sausage next door) in Haight Ashbury, say what’s up to my pops. I love the Botanical Gardens and museums in the park. Walking the Embarcadero is fun.

1:08
Dummy: I am crazy to trade DMurph and Rendon for Trea Turner in dynasty? DMurph is a utility bat for me (Altuve at 2B) and Rendon would be replaced by Devers.

1:08
Eno Sarris: Trea Turner is like a top three player this year in fantasy.

1:08
botchatheny: if you refrained from drinking alcohol for the month of january what would be the first beer you’d have on 2/1 (that mere mortals could find)?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Maybe some Old Rasputin? Great stout, everywhere.

1:09
Bert: Does Greg Bird hit like an above average 1st basemen this year?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Yes.

1:10
Ridley: If you had to pick one player to have an Aaron Judge-like/light breakout year based solely on Statcast data, who would it be?

1:10
Eno Sarris: Maikel Franco raised his launch angle to 16 degrees in the second half, I still can’t quit him.

1:10
WormsleyCommonGang: You should take your medication daily Eno.

1:10
Eno Sarris: I did for two weeks, did a hard reset, blew on the cartridge, and then stopped. Have been good since.

1:10
Anthony: How do you feel about Haniger? 2017 the norm, late bloomer gives him more upside, or regression candidate?

1:11
Eno Sarris: The whole thing. League average type player, and that’s a win.

1:11
He Hate Me: What are the odds SFG stay under the tax bar? They are pushing right up to it and leaving zero wiggle room for in-season maneuvering.

1:11
Eno Sarris: I guess if they’re good, they’ll pay a better prospect than they have so far (somehow kept Beede, Shaw and Ramos) in order to make the other team pay for the player they acquire. I think they stay under.

1:12
Eno Sarris: Man I’m still loading on the tickets, getting nervous.

1:12
Sick Day: 1. Do you count a grilled cheese as a sandwich?

1:12
Eno Sarris: Why not.

1:12
Hunky Dory: Staying away from onion, garlic, tomato sauce, and cheese?  The Italian in me just vomited.  What is life

1:12
Eno Sarris: Yeah I really can’t do Italian food.

1:12
Dave Kingman: What does the SB scarcity do to the prices of the handful of potential 30SB guys (Hamilton, Gordon, T Turner, Marte)? Are they going for more of a premium than they might have relative to the cost of the MANY 30 HR guys?

1:12
Eno Sarris: Yes. 1HR != 1SB any more I would venture.

1:12
Slapshot: Was doing some cut deadline research and found a Jeff Zimmerman article that argued that catcher was the only position with positional scarcity in standard roster leagues (i.e. 2 catcher leagues).  Would you agree with him?  And if so, who would you consider as keepers below the obvious top flight guys like Posey, Contreras, and Sanchez?

1:13
Eno Sarris: In most leagues (less than 15 teams, mixed, one catcher), yes I’d just take the best bat repeatedly. Later in the auction, you may have to make a choice based on team construct, but early you take the best bat.

1:13
Sick Day: 2. What does Eno’s perfect grilled cheese contain and is the inclusion of soup required?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Gruyere, and then a cheese or two more, love getting like three cheeses in there. Sourdough. I’ll allow for ketchup — I have two boys after all — but I don’t require soup.

1:14
Rasta: Godley, Paxton, Rivero. Which two arms would you rather keep?

1:14
Eno Sarris: I like Godley a lot but the second two.

1:14
Bort: A Machado trade to Cleveland makes too much sense not to happen, right? They get Salazar + Allen/Naquin back, and then sign Moustakas to play third.

1:15
Eno Sarris: Decent. Cleveland doesn’t seem to do things like that, but they might be tired of Salazar and they have outfielders, and those two are flawed.

1:15
Sandy Kazmir: Yo we did Simple Man for Mother/Son dance and it rocked

1:15
Leyland’s Cig Baby: Will you ever be in Detroit for some type of meet and greet? The baseball probably won’t be good, though there are some great breweries to grab a drink at!

1:15
Eno Sarris: I’d love to! I like that park a lot and yes, there are good breweries.

1:15
Hunky Dory: Real quick q for the nihilist in you: the meaning of life is sex, right?  Like, that’s the only scientific, biologically sound, uncontrovsial answer to the question “why are we here?” – to have as much sex as possible, no?

1:15
Eno Sarris: dammit

1:16
Johnny5Alive: #wagneris better

1:16
Eno Sarris: love billy

1:17
Nats fan: This is a fantasy question, but is Jorge Polanco the best sleeper (i.e., primed for a top 10 position breakout) at SS, and who else is worth considering?

1:17
Eno Sarris: Maybe. It’s worth considering Orlando Arcia, though I’m not sure how much is left. Addison Russell is on my list every year.

1:17
Johnny5Alive: remember when we thought David Wright was going to be a hall of famer

1:17
Eno Sarris: dammit

1:18
Sonny: Where you valuing Price this year? Ahead or behind a Cueto or Lester?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Ahead! He’s good. Should be healthy now.

1:18
Leyland’s Cig Baby: Were you (or any of the other Fangraphs writers that you know of) into collecting baseball cards growing up? What were some of your best?

1:19
Eno Sarris: That — and the fact that my dad bet on baseball — was how I got into baseball. I still have my collection, waiting for my youngest to be older so I can give them to my boys. I have a 58 Bowman Yogi Berra, Rookies for Maddux, Sandberg, all the modern guys, pulled Sandberg from a $12 pack in the early nineties. Decent collection.

1:20
Eno Sarris: Definitely have that beautiful Griffey 90 upper deck rookie.

1:20
Anthony: Is there anything to like about Ariel Miranda?

1:20
Eno Sarris: No

1:21
Morbo: I  drafted last in my league last year and decided to try a different strategy. Drafted Syndergaard in the first then MadBum as my second round pick

1:21
Morbo: it didn’t go so well. But I clawed my way back to third by the end of the season, some how

1:21
Ewilly: Is there any chance the Angels screw with Ohtani’s service time?

1:21
Eno Sarris: would be such a dick move after getting a free number one prospect.

1:22
Anthony: So, I know research on slider effectiveness is fuzzy from your piece on Flaherty, but the video of the three top sliders was shockingly different. Do you have any untested hypotheses about what makes a slider effective?

1:24
Eno Sarris: The spin rates are all over the place on sliders, I think it’s hard to pick them up, statcast drops every ninth one or so. I think the continuum between cutter, power slider, slider, hard curve, and curve is more fluid than the one between sinker and changeup and splitter. I think breaking balls are the real feel pitch. And though I’ve defined breaker movement off the fastball, I’m pretty sure that it’s interaction with the fastball that’s somehow missing.

1:24
Anthony: Where would you rank Carlos Martinez among the league’s best pitchers IRL?

1:24
Eno Sarris: Easily top 30, probably top 20. Ace.

1:25
Barry Badrinath: Does Vladdy Jr force himself onto the big league team this year or does Shap and Ross hold him back another year?

1:25
Eno Sarris: Headed for September most likely, but team dynamics may matter. If they’re good…

1:25
Marty: It’s fun to joke about Cameron being a superhero…but the dude basically kicked cancer’s ass, held a dream job in writing and editing, and now works for a team, and has a great family. The dude is an effin superhero!

1:25
E: I passed on Hopslam this year. I love it but $18 for a 6 pack of a seasonal is almost insane to me.

1:26
Eno Sarris: That’s steep. I think I paid something similar for hazy Mikkeller just now, I better start checking prices more now.

1:26
New Bork: Jim Thome has a career OBP of .402

1:26
Eno Sarris: I’m not saying he was not a great player, not at all.

1:26
My name is Judge…: with KatiePerrysBootyHole comes wettbutt; people forget about wettbutt, but they were just as important.

1:26
Brad: any worries about the humidor and goldy?  I saw andrew perpetua say he may drop goldy around 10 spots because of it.

1:27
Eno Sarris: The research from the physics angle suggests it could really curb homers there. 30% seems radical, I’d bet the under on that, but it is nerve wracking.

1:27
Barry Badrinath: I’m sorry but what is the humidor situation?

1:28
Eno Sarris: Arizona has been long considering adding a humidor to keep the balls more humid, same thing Colorado did. I don’t know if they’re confirmed doing it though.

1:28
Eno Sarris: where are my tickets!!! !!! !!

1:29
Eno Sarris:

1:29
Gavin: Poor Justin Bour. Do you think he stays put in the Miami wasteland after the disintegration of the entire team?

1:29
Justin Bour: Help me

1:30
Eno Sarris: literally right next to each other. It’s kinda tough being a first baseman in general right now. Plenty of teams are just taking whatever falls to the market at that position.

1:30
Trevor Hildenberger Fan Club: TREVOR HILDENBERGER IS REALLY GOOD!!!

1:30
Eno Sarris: He is!

1:30
RIck Hahn: Don’t forget Maris/Mantle combining for 115 in 1961.

1:30
Slurve: Any opinion on Sean Newcomb?

1:31
Eno Sarris: He dropped huge on the BA list, but pitchers seem to be able to come back from that more than hitters.

1:31
RIck Hahn: I’ll take Dave Parker or Ellis Valentine making that throw home.

1:31
ohtanifan63102: will grichuk hit 40 taters in Toronto one of these years? Or is he staring down the barrel at a minor league invite sooner than that scenario?

1:34
Eno Sarris: I think a new hitting coach / offseason approach will do him wonders. St Lou had him working on sliders by trying to hit them. That’s focusing on your weakness. I think he should do what Beltre told me he did: focus on the high fastball. Then the low slider will look crappy. I’d buy.

1:34
Eno Sarris: got my ticketS!!!!

1:34
Estevao: The Colorado Rockies in all recorded history, going back to 2002, have never not once as a team finished the year with a positive team weighted Runs Above Average wRAA on the road.
All negative. Every year

1:36
Eno Sarris: Couple things going on here. Some evidence that the park makes them worse on the road — I found that they saw more fastballs and swung more often than average at home, and that this carried over to the road and made them susceptible to offspeed stuff — so that might be it. Or maybe we penalize them too much for their park, given that it does weird things to them as players.

1:36
john wick: time to throw in the towel on nick castellanos? or is there anything more there?

1:36
Eno Sarris: I think this is who he is. Maybe he takes to the OF and is a better defender there, but this is his bat.

1:36
Sneijer: What are your thoughts on anthony alford? Seems like he could have the skills to run away with a spot in that OF. What do you think a reasonable stat line would be

1:37
Eno Sarris: I seem to think he has a higher bust rate than most people think. He certainly has the tools though.

1:37
Oddball Herrera: MLB should get rid of this long free agency period and in its place have all the GMs sit in a room on live TV and bid on players like an auction.  You know you’d tune in.

1:37
Eno Sarris: hah.

1:38
Eno Sarris: had to piss again. have a cold and am drinking copious amounts of fluid.

1:38
Zac: Re: acid reflux.  Seltzer water helps me a lot.  If you’re not gonna change your diet, gotta exercise.

1:38
Eno Sarris: Yes! I do also drink la croix after heavy meals to get the burps going.

1:38
Estevao: Chase Utley was worth 1.3 WAR in 17, think about that

1:38
Eno Sarris: Amazing. Bone on bone in both knees too I think.

1:39
Travis: You know, I never really noticed before, but Chipper Jones’ age 35 and 36 seasons were crazy good. And 2.4 WAR in 112 games with a 127 wRC+ at 40 seems crazy good, too.

1:39
Travis: ive always know he was a HOF, but have I been underrating how good he really was?

1:39
Eno Sarris: yeah and his peak seasons! look at em! like .330 with 45 homers and 20 steals at third base? Are you kidding me??

1:40
john wick: so you like carmelized onions but you don’t like tripels, huh.

1:40
Eno Sarris: I think it’s.. i just taste all that alcohol in tripels.

1:40
Patrick: Just sit on cheapskate hill at the greek !!

1:41
Eno Sarris: It’s all GA which made me a little nervous, but yeah we’ll be sitting up there because we old.

1:41
Mister Puppy: He hate me!

1:42
Eno Sarris:

1:42
Patrick: What bars do you go to when in Berkeley?

1:43
Eno Sarris: Not there often. I guess Fieldwork or Rare Barrell. I’m in Oakland more often. Really like Lost & Found.

1:44
Gila Monster: Does baseball have a problem because the rise of superteams? Nearly all divisions and wild card spots are locked up. There is one WC slot in the NL and maybe none in the AL. Most teams could sign Hosmer AND Darvish and not contend. Is there “meaningful” baseball before October anymore?

1:44
Eno Sarris: Twins and Rockies would say yes. And just because that’s how it looks right now doens’t mean it’s a supertrend.

1:44
Hunky Doryr: Why are people suggesting the Tigers trade Fulmer, but not that the White Sox trade Rodon?

1:45
Eno Sarris: I suppose because Fulmer has had his breakout and selling Rodon now might be selling low.

1:45
Oddball Herrera: Re: Moustakas nicknames, it would warm the cockles of my heart to hear an announcer bark “Pomplemousse!” every time he hit a home run

1:45
Seabass: Have you turned your heart to our savior Lord Hobo?

1:45
Eno Sarris: Have had the sauce.

1:45
E: If you had a job that wasn’t in baseball, how many fantasy leagues would you be playing in?

1:45
Eno Sarris: Five or six probably still. Been playing at least two or three leagues since like 2000.

1:45
Seabass: Sweet dreams are made of twinkies.

1:46
E: What hour of the day is the worst? I’m going 2pm. It isn’t lunch time, you can be tired with a lot of the afternoon still to go, and enough of the day has gone by to beat you down, I see no positives.

1:46
Eno Sarris: Not 9am?

1:47
Vincent : Arietta or Darvish, who you signing?

1:47
Eno Sarris: Darvish.

1:47
Patty L: All things being equal, who do you prefer for dynasty purposes- Vlad Jr. or Ohtani?

1:47
Eno Sarris: Vlad vlad vlad.

1:47
Art Vandelay: if you’re trying to stay in Santa Rosa I have to second the Henhouse suggestion, my absolute favorite brewery. For cheap good food in Sonoma County though you could go down to Don Julio’s in Rohnert Park for some pupusas, or hit Delicias Elenita taco truck on Sebastopol Rd. in Roseland for the authentic (and delicious) California Mexican food experience.

1:47
Jay: Forsee another 30/15 season for Domingo Santana or major regression? Seems like everyone else is out on coming close to a repeat. Should I zig while everyone else is zagging?

1:47
Eno Sarris: Yeah I’d buy if I didn’t have a bunch of shares already.

1:47
Art Vandelay: ooo and if you don’t want pizza from RR you can go get bomb Puerto Rican food at El Coquí which is right down the street from the brewery.

1:47
Craig:

1:47
Craig: Best Mother/Son song

1:48
Eno Sarris: asking her to boogie, I like it.

1:48
X from Boston: Last 10 days of nfbc adp has Bogaerts going mid 6th. Buying opportunity this year? 20-20 upside or more of the same ?

1:49
Eno Sarris: I think he can do 2016 again, 20/15 with great BA. I’d have to look at the numbers, though, because you don’t buy the upside.

1:49
Oddball Herrera: Isn’t “there doesn’t need to be a reason” the most scientifically sound response to “why are we here?”

1:49
Eno Sarris: yes. you Nihilist Eno?

1:49
Marty: Cool, we established the primal meaning of life today! What next?

1:49
Eno Sarris: guess you had to wait a second.

1:49
808: would you keep Manaea at $12 in a FG points Otto league? I’m feeling pretty set at SP..

1:50
Eno Sarris: Yes. More more more.

1:50
Bueller: Bueller? Everybody loves him.

1:51
Rich K: This year only can you rank these CI: Devers, Lamb, Moose, Olson, and Bird. Lots of animals . Thanks Eno.

1:51
Eno Sarris: Auction has them all between 7 and 10 bucks, so that’s an interesting selection of players. I’ll go Devers Lamb Olson Bird Mousse.

1:51
Stan : Leave That Thing Alone by Rush. It’s an oldy, but cherish that bass line.

1:52
steev: Will you guys please have Tommy Pham on a podcast or as an interview to talk about how he uses your analytics to be a betetr player?  Also, I’d take long odds on Pham as the 2018 NL MVP — thoughts?

1:52
Eno Sarris: Man I still haven’t written up my interview with him. I should. I wouldn’t give him the MVP at his age, but I do think he can mostly repeat.

1:52
Dave Kingman: FYI, no such thing as a ’58 Bowman Berra. They stopped production in ’55.

1:54
Eno Sarris: So it was earlier! Not surprised I don’t remember a card I put away 20 years ago that well. I think it was the Tv one. this one?

1:54
Bobby Evans: SF resident here.  Papalote does rule but we can’t omit the classic Gordo

1:54
Madison’s Bum Gardner: Today I learned that in 2001 Steve Kline received an MVP vote. Do you think in this day an age a random middle reliever would ever garner that support?

1:54
Eno Sarris: Old beat rewarding a good quote, most likely.

1:54
beerismywater: Hey Eno, have you had any of the beers coming out of the Sacramento area?  New Glory has been doing some interesting things with their Hazy IPAs and some West Coast IPAs.  Track 7 just dropped kool-aid Goses and Moonraker periodically kills it.

1:55
Eno Sarris: Yes had a New Glory I liked! Their guava milkshake IPA. Was really good. Knee Deep was always good but maybe fell off a bit after that brewer left. Berryessa is good!

1:55
Shawn: For anyone 50 and under, that Upper Deck Griffey Rookie is THE iconic baseball card, no?

1:55
Eno Sarris: Beautiful.

1:55
Sonny: Vin just called them all breaking balls. Can do worse than follow the GOAT

1:55
The final boss: Matt Olson goes yard again! For the ___th time!

1:55
Eno Sarris: 36th

1:55
Pretty Tony: if you provide it yourself is it called an intralude???

1:55
Vladedg: Vlad has impaled! Next year it’s Edgar Martinez, Professional Hitter time!

1:55
Slapshot: After seeing a Tweet you liked, would you prefer a 1000 IBU IPA, or a 0 IBU IPA?

1:55
Eno Sarris: 0. Had one from Henhouse supposedly. Was great.

1:56
Billy Beane: A’s should sign Lucroy or Avila.

1:56
Eno Sarris: Catcher projects to be above average actually. I think Maxwell has some breakout potential.

1:56
Hunky Doryr: Sophisticated q: say the Yankees acquired Josh Harrison.  His AAV and lux tax hit is $6.25MM.  His 2018 salary is $10.25 MM.  Say PIT pays $1MM in the trade.  Is the lux tax hit then $5.25MM???  Or what???

1:56
Eno Sarris: I think 1 divided by the years of his contract.

1:57
Scott: When researching SP, what are the best factors/qualities to look at for signs of regression or growth?

1:57
Eno Sarris: Fastball velocity, swinging strike rate, pitching mix change.

1:57
Patty L: No need to post, but you may try taking the proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) every other day or every third day- something like that. Generally the 40 mg tabs are A LOT better than 20 or 10 mg. Nexium is a PPI by the way. The key with reflux is the diet, which you mentioned, but sometimes that is pretty hard to adhere to. Having just a low level of the PPI (ie taking 2-3 times per week) should help out a lot. It will be cheaper to do 40 mg tab in that dosing interval than daily 10 or 20mg tab. Sorry for long suggestion but as a physician who has GERD and loves been I wanted to share.

1:58
Eno Sarris: Interesting. I may end up doing something like this, I may be doing it in practice. I end up taking a pill once a week or so.

1:58
Nate: Brandon Morrow is a top _ closer if he can stay healthy?  What do you think the odds are that he can stay healthy?

1:59
Eno Sarris: I’m worried. They rode him harder than any reliever in the modern era last year.

1:59
He Hate Me: That Doobies song is justifiably underrated. They may have 100 better.

1:59
Eno Sarris: yeah I was like oh yeah this one its okay

1:59
Barry Badrinath: Eno I find drinking beer gives me massive hangovers as opposed to hard liquor… What formula would you suggest to combat soul deteriorating hangovers?

1:59
Eno Sarris: Alternate with water.

2:00
mrdog61: Why am I turning down every trade offer for Chris Taylor?

2:00
Eno Sarris: 27 years old, one of his best GB/FBs of his career, and the floor shown by his projections (.260/15/15) is still very useful.

2:01
Sam: If I were to tell you Thor throws 210 innings this year, what % chance would you say he wins the Cy young

2:01
Eno Sarris: 60%. Still got Cy Kershaw to deal with.

2:01
Dave: Re: your tweet about Chad Kuhl’s sinker ball situation the other day, do you think a viable solution would just be to send him to the bullpen? Between his slider and heat touching triple digits in a shorter setting, you’d think it’s a good match. Any optimism about him as a starter? I suppose he had an ok performance as a #4/5 type, and the Pirates need all the upside they can get at SP.

2:02
Eno Sarris: With that new curveball, I think he can be a starter. And if you look at the heatmap for when he’s ahead in the count, he locates it lower. But still not really on the edge.

2:02
Yikes: wow that LCDS voice doesn’t hold up outside the studio

2:02
Eno Sarris: He’s not a great singer and yet I always enjoy his shows.

2:02
Go Dills!: If i could acquire Tyler Chatwood or Luis Castillo on nearly identical contracts for my roto team that already projects to be heavy on younger ‘potential’ type starters (Lamet, Nola, Weaver, Hader, Velasquez*) who would you suggest I get?

2:02
Eno Sarris: Castillo like 1000000000%

2:03
Lewis Brinson Cuddles: Sano or Devers?

2:03
Eno Sarris: Devers.

2:03
HELLO ENO: Aside from Duffy, does anyone in the Royals’ rotation interest you?

2:03
Eno Sarris: Not really.

2:03
Mad Maximus: Why isn’t there more buzz about Eugenio Suarez? He seems awesome

2:04
Eno Sarris: He is really good! Steady growth in a lot of areas despite the breakout last year.

2:05
Kiermaier’s Piercing Green Eyes: Is “Ante Up” by MOP ever a bad decision?

2:06
Justino: What is unappealing about Almora Jr that I must be missing? He seems pretty consistent offensively (could improve walk rate some), and is one of the best defensive CF’s in the game. What does peak Almora Jr look like?

2:06
Eno Sarris: Looks almost exactly like Kevin Pillar.

2:06
Nate: Best deep league outfielder: Toles, Schebler, Fisher?

2:06
Eno Sarris: Schebler has the job.

2:06
(not that) James: Only acceptable Moustakas nickname is MouseTacos.

2:06
Corey: What is stopping teams likes the Braves and Brewers from trading some depth for higher end proven talent?

2:07
Eno Sarris: Whatever conversations they’re having are probably still ongoing. Mostly with the Marlins I’d guess.

2:07
Actual Nutrition Coach: Acid reflux is the result of gasses building up in the digestive tract and forcing stomach acid up into the esophagus. To get rid of it, you have to change your diet and strengthen your gut. Digestive enzymes can help. But long-term it’s cutting down on the food and drink (**beer, sorry bro) that are causing the gut irritation and excessive fermentation. Or be like most Americans and make no changes and live with it, and encourage a digestive tract ripe for chronic disease.

2:08
Eno Sarris: I’m making changes. Pushing the first beer later in the day, most weeks I have 10-12 beers which is under the recommendation given by my GI. I used the enzymes but my GI thought I should put them away for now.

2:09
Roadhog: Why do you think the A’s would add SP, when the front office has said multiple times this offseason they aren’t doing that? Sorting through their scraps first.

2:09
Eno Sarris: They could add nobody, that’s a decent possibility. Bud Norris and Henderson Alvarez were on my favorites list, they could be cheap relievers.

2:10
Brian: Site question:Exactly how does one purchase the THT book?

2:10
Eno Sarris: Not publishing a hard copy this year.

2:10
Shawn: What does Mrs. Eno do? Does she enjoy beer and sandwiches?

2:10
Eno Sarris: More white wine, okay on the sandwiches, joins e for a beer occasionally.

2:10
Agustin: It’s simple: you fry a cold tamal. Nothing better.

2:10
Buff: Bigger injury risk, Kershaw or Scherzer?

2:11
Eno Sarris: At this point, Kershaw, because he’s shown the propensity and has an ongoing (back) issue.

2:11
Yankee my wankee: What kinda numbers do you expect out of Greg Bird this year?

2:11
Eno Sarris: I see no reason he can’t hit his projections. .255/.345/.500 with 30 homers.

2:12
Show Hey O’Tawny: Moustakas gets to be moose cause he kinda looks like one tho

2:12
Go Dills!: I struggle with the reflux, too… can you explain “drinking apple cider vinegar”?  This helps?  How much do you drink and do you mix it with anything?

2:13
Eno Sarris: The thinking from the holistic healer I talked to was that it ‘primes the pump’ and gets your gut working before the food lands on top of it. It doesn’t taste great, doens’t feel awesome, but I do seem to work through bigger meals better if I take a spoonful before the dinner.

2:13
Barry Badrinath: Eno is your favorite beer drinking movie BeerFest?

2:13
Eno Sarris: strange brew?

Guest: ok let’s try thi

2:14
Eno Sarris: hmm once more

2:15
Show Hey O’Tawny: Bichette and Vladito got 70 and 80 graces on their respective hit tools from MLB.com, I can’t wait

2:15
Eno Sarris: I’m a sucker for hit tool. Give me that and a hope that they add power, and I’m on board. And those guys have some power already.

2:15
Tb Ray fan : When do you think Honeywell gets called up? Immediate impact pitcher with the screwball?

2:15
Eno Sarris: Faria, but with better velo and worse command.

2:15
E: The day is still fresh at 9AM, it still has potential to be a good day. 2PM the day is what the day is.

2:16
Hunky Dory: So if PIT pays $6.25MM?

2:16
Eno Sarris: Yes then I think it shaves a mill off tax value.

2:16
Timmuh in the PHL: Did you get your LCD tickets?  Enjoy the show if you did … I just got our family tix for Darlingside in PHL at the end of March.  Wife and kids love them (10 & 13yr old).

2:16
Eno Sarris: Yup! going with Mrs. Eno.

2:17
Hunky Dory: How much of your budget goes into concert tix?  How much of my budget can I spend on concert tix?

2:17
Eno Sarris: Not that much. Might be a little more going forward though. I don’t like spending much more than $50 a seat though, which prices me out of a lot of shows. Maybe $100 each for a big show.

2:17
Sonny: I can’t keep Posey or Marte, too much to package them w a keepable CMart for Mookie?

2:17
Eno Sarris: Not too much since Mookie best keeper.

2:18
The Ghost of Wade Boggs: How often do you go to MiLB games?
What’s your favorite minor league park you’ve ever been to?

2:18
Eno Sarris: I go to San Jose from time to time with the kids, they love it, good beer, funny between innings things, terrible baseball.

2:18
John: Your favorite San Diego brewery?

2:18
Eno Sarris: Societe or Modern Times. modern Times.

2:18
Tom Cruise: “Acid reflux is the result of gasses building up in the digestive tract and forcing stomach acid up into the esophagus. To get rid of it,…”  or you could just come in for an auditing session if you REALLY want to fix it.  Those disembodied thetans don’t exorcise themselves.

2:19
Stumped in Texas: Ms Eno owns a Subway with a liquor license

2:19
HOF Voter: I know Johan Santana isn’t a HOFer but being voted off the first ballot still makes me sad.  His peak years, while short, were amazing

2:19
Eno Sarris: yes.

2:19
ryan: if schebler “has the job”, how do you see the reds outfield playing out? winker riding the bench for schebler/duvall?

2:19
Eno Sarris: Dammit forgot that they didn’t trade Hamilton and still have all those guys. Maybe Schebler does lose the job, or maybe we’re about to see a Hamilton trade huh.

2:20
ohtanifan63102: how would you feel if Carrasco were your SP1 this coming year, considering that the league is 12 teams?

2:20
Eno Sarris: Fine.

2:20
The Ghost of Wade Boggs: Eno, what do you think of this particular, well-thought out question that I’m asking? It’s pretty great, is it not?

2:20
tommy lasagna, sr.: is it too late for tom selleck to play batman?  does that make us ageist?

2:20
tommy lasagna, sr.: NO SPORK, NO CHILI!

2:21
AG: What are your thoughts on Robbie Ray? Was 2017 a breakout or an anomaly?

2:21
Eno Sarris: Don’t really believe in that curve. Still gave up the same homers, had a real low BABIP. I trust the projections. Really good, still flawed player.

2:21
Dan: Nobody seems interested in Mazara.  Is my love for him wrong?  What do you see for this year and beyond?

2:22
Eno Sarris: Man I love that guy. Has a two strike approach, should have a good K rate. If he pushes his gb/fb again closer to 1, he could easily hit .290/.360/.500 with 30 homers. yum.

2:22
Dave Kingman: I played Little League with Steve Kline (Lewisburg, PA). Only way I see him getting a HOF vote was if he threatened a writer. Had/has a bit of a temper.

2:23
Eno Sarris: oh wow didn’t expect that.

2:23
Mark: What can Tyler Mahle improve upon, realistically, that can make him a potential number 2 or better?

2:23
Eno Sarris: don’t know if I believe in that changeup. Maybe try the curve more often?

2:24
Hunky Dory: Hey Eno, I go to an Ivy League school.  How much would you say your swanky Stanford degree has helped you get to where you are today?

2:26
Eno Sarris: Once I’ve gotten to an interview, I can’t remember not getting the job. And I know I’ve gotten interviews because of the degree. I once printed my resume on a piece of paper from my wife’s house without looking at the reverse side, and it had a story her sister wrote about a first kiss on the back, and I still got the job (Kumon). I’m sure the degree helped a lot, though it’s funny, I spent the first few years there failing my way through an econ degree, and only found myself when I switched to psych/creative writing/communications/art history and started working at the Daily.

2:27
Eno Sarris: I think if one of my sons comes to me with a cogent plan that doesn’t include college, I might give it the go ahead. My wife, though…

2:27
John Doe: Would you rather have Kopech or Calhoun for a fantasy team trying to win this year (but not all in)?

2:27
Eno Sarris: Calhoun.

2:27
Mr Met: Long term (dynasty) outlook on Michael Conforto?

2:27
Eno Sarris: Still good. He’s a really good hitter, if not a CF.

2:27
He Hate Me: Re: Steve Kline’s temper, never met the man but guys who are competitive enough to become big leaguers may come off as real jerks as little leaguers. Just sayin’.

2:28
Masiumtao: how would you rank long term? Glasnow, Hoffman, Finnegan, Velasquez

2:28
Eno Sarris: That order. Wait, maybe VV ahead of Finnegan. Dude has been hurt, but also hasn’t been great in games yet.

2:29
Mister Puppy: Why would the Halos screw w Ohtani’s service? Their window seems to be right now, need every win they can get.

2:29
Eno Sarris: That too.

2:29
Jays: Will vlad and vlad jr be the first father son duo in the HOF?

2:29
Eno Sarris: Amazing if it happens. Bobby Bonds and the Alou dad were good, just not great.

2:29
The Ghost of Wade Boggs: They remake the Matrix where Dave Cameron is Keanu and gets plugged into the Padres system where Eric Hosmer can inhabit whoevers body he wants and Dave has to jump inside him to make him explode

2:30
Busting a Cap: Will “take my bad contract and a decent reliever or prospect for nothing” be a common maneuver for teams seeking luxury tax room?

2:30
Eno Sarris: Yes. Although the tax penalties sunset soon, AFAIK.

2:30
Eno Sarris: okay, it’s been a pleasure. love you people.

2:30
Marty: My wife is currently on a plane with Aaron Judge. That is all.

2:31
Eno Sarris: hopefully he’s not a recliner.

With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Maybe the writer like the fact that Kline once flipped TLR the bird during a game….
