Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 10/31/13

11:48
Eno Sarris: see you at the top of the hour

11:59
Eno Sarris: lyrics of the day are totally inane but still germane

Lay a whisper on my pillow,
leave the winter on the ground.
I wake up lonely,
there’s air of silence in the bedroom
and all around
Touch me now, I close my eyes and dream away.

12:00
Eno Sarris: Okay, let’s get… intimate.

It’s the offseason! And Eno’s chatting! Regularly?

12:00
Eno Sarris: We’ll see.

A wild Eno appears!!!!

12:00
Eno Sarris: Through the empty beer bottles and passed out boston fans, yes, there, there’s movement over there.

Atwater Vanilla Java Porter (Detroit,MI): mmmm mmm good

12:01
Eno Sarris: yeah I really like the sweet stouts and porters. I bet I’d like that. I like the Tanilla from Knee Deep out here.

12:01
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
This sox fan was feeling like a conqueror last night and celebrated w/ Clown Shoes Ghengis Pecan Pie Porter….pretty good and had never had a “pecan pie” beer before.

12:02
Eno Sarris: And since Clown Shoes are usually strong, it was a spicy celebration.

12:02
Comment From Sean
Do you think someone gives Jacoby the $130M he’s asking, and if so who?

12:03
Eno Sarris: People in New York want the big splash, but I don’t think that’s Sandy’s style. Who has money? I think he’ll get 100m just because these guys usually do, but I’m not sure who’s going to give it to him.

12:03
Comment From person hscer
Strasburg, Zimmermann, Gonzalez, _____, and _____ will be Washington’s initial rotation. Detwiler and Jordan? Or an FA in there?

12:03
Eno Sarris: I think they’ll sign someone so that Jordan can be their number five and Detwiler and Roark are their backup plans. Not a big signing, but maybe something like Roy Halladay and/or another guy that would be cheap but might have some last gasp upside.

12:03

Really good article about Chielf Wahoo, http://news.sportslogos.net/2013/10/30/is-chief-wahoo-finally-on-the-way-out/ as a tribe fan I’m happy this is happening.

12:04
Eno Sarris: I agree. Argue all day about the name — Indians is better than Redskins imo — but that dude is grotesque.

12:04
Comment From Sean
From beer to beards, Red Sox are World Series Champs.

12:04
Eno Sarris: So jealous. I can’t grow anything like that.

12:05
Comment From Frank
Why haven’t the Royals been mentioend as a spot for Price? Good team, good farm system, and they want to win.

12:05
Eno Sarris: If it took Myers to get Shields, I don’t think they have another Myers. I feel like I’d be so annoyed talking to the Rays braintrust and just assume they wouldn’t make a deal unless I was the sucker at the table.

12:05
Comment From JEB
Do you see Cincinnati trying to sign a long term CF this off season (Ellsbury, Granderson) or starting the year with Hamilton and hoping he works out?

12:06
Eno Sarris: I think it’s Hamilton. They don’t have a ton of cash, I don’t think. Trade Phillips for a COF maybe, or a cheaper 2B with more OBP? Sign some depth pieces.

12:06
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
possibly the best outcome of last night’s game: No more McCarver….ever!!!

12:06
Eno Sarris: He was once good. I don’t think he’s been good for a while.

12:07
Comment From Pat Hickey
What do I do with myself for 152 days?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Figure out what your team should do with their roster and yell about it online! That’s what I do, plus a lot of dynasty team work. and prep work for next year’s fantasy season.

12:07
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
Cody Allen closing in 2014?

12:07
Eno Sarris: I think so. Perez is about to be expensive and he reverted to his mediocre self, and Pestano ain’t what he used to be.

12:08
Comment From Shannon
What kind of contract do you think Corey Hart will get? He seems like an interesting buy low candidate to me.

12:08
Eno Sarris: I think everyone’s worried about his knees and he’ll return for like 2 and 15 or 1 and 10 or something. Try to recoup some value.

12:08
Comment From JEB
What team do you think surprises everyone the most this offseason?

12:09
Eno Sarris: I think it’s the Mets because of this: their payroll is down to $57million including arb and 500k per roster slot and some Bay and Santana money. That’s *really* low. If they don’t spend money, people will be surprised, or at least upset. If they do spend money, it will be the first time we get to see Sandy spend some money really.

12:09
Comment From Michael
Will baseball be better next year? Please…

12:10
Eno Sarris: There were some crazy ass moments in the postseason, but it was a little too close to the two best teams, two bigger market teams, without too many surprises in the world series maybe. I’d like some new blood to make it further.

Comment From Shane Spencer
Re: McCarver, I was rewatching the 2001 Game 7 (thanks iTunes!) and he called the broken bat single not thirty seconds before Luis Gonzalez dumped the game winner over Jeter’s head. He really did have insights, once upon a time.

12:11
Eno Sarris: Back in the day, McCarver was a great Mets announcer.

12:12
Comment From Brad Wesley
Should I expect anything at all out of Corey Hart in the first half or is he a better 2nd half play, like what happened with VMart this season?

12:12
Eno Sarris: I’ll be owning him in some leagues next year because, even if I was worried there was a lot of Richie Sexson in him, Corey’s only 32 and might have another year or two in him.

12:13
Comment From Mike T.
If Rosenthal starts the season with the role, is he the #4 closer behind Kimbrel, Chapman, and Jansen?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:13
Comment From Guest
When you are looking at a players page, which contact % values are most important to you?

12:14
Eno Sarris: So many of them. If a player depends on O-Contact like Pablo Sandoval and Josh Hamilton, I don’t like that, so that’s high up there. Then I like overall swSTR as a measure of which way their strikeout rate is generally heading.

12:14
Comment From Tanner
Hellweg’s control issues in the bigs any cause for concern (SSS but GEEZ!) or will he be serviceable?

12:14
Eno Sarris: I’m not buying. I’m really hoping it’s not because of his debut.

12:14
Comment From Sean
My plan for the offseason is to drink lots of beer and glue my eyes to twitter during the winter meetings and sleep. Lots of sleep.

12:14

If Buck were being fired instead of McCarver retiring and Fox hired Hawk Harrelson to replace Buck, who would have the compromising photos of Fox’s top executives?

12:14
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
2 things about Tim McCarver that I did not know before looking up his career: 1.) he briefly played for the Red Sox (and expos!) in addition to STL and PHI. 2.) He was an OK hitter w/ a higher career BB% than K% and .271/.337/.388 slash

12:14
Comment From Lenard
152 days of fwaping?

12:14
Comment From Officer Farva
Holy crap Ellsburyturned 30 this year……is he going to get 6/120…. oh god help the Mariners if they fall on that sword.

12:15
Eno Sarris: Yeah Ellsbury is decidedly post-peak, most FA are, but he didn’t get an early start.

12:15
Comment From Brad Wesley
I have cheap Wilmer Flores. Is he worth anything to anybody or should I just cut him and find a better use of the roster spot? Given he does have 2b eligibility though.

12:16
Eno Sarris: Problem is, he can’t play second base or the outfield, and unless he’s traded, he’s the third first baseman in line for play this year. On the other hand, he’s a prime trade candidate. Flores and Murphy are on the hottest seats, IMO.

12:16
Eno Sarris: So, I’d hold him as long as possible.

I could grow the Jonny Gomes beard but what adult with a real job can actually manage to do that w/o serious fallout?

12:17
Eno Sarris: solid lude work today

12:17
Comment From filihok
@Frank: Royals already gave up the farm for a Rays pitcher

12:17
Eno Sarris: Exactly. I don’t think they can manage it again. Maybe they can spend some money.

12:17
Comment From Flo
Billy Beane getting impatient? Big move this offseason?

12:17
Eno Sarris: He makes a big move every offseason. He’ll trade a pitcher. Which one?

12:17
Comment From Brad Wesley
Im looking for some 1b help this offseason. What kind of tier return should I be able to get for Patrick Corbin? Is Matt Adams a reasonale target?

12:18
Eno Sarris: If only he hadn’t ended so badly, I’d tell you to aim higher. I think Adams can .275 and 25 or so, so that’s not bad. You always get less when you’re trading pitching for hitting. You could also try Craig… maybe go as high as Rizzo.

12:18
Comment From dada
Can you give me a couplr minor league SS who may make an impact next year?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Addison Russell is getting closer and closer and Francisco Lindor is close too. All it might take is a late-season Jed Lowrie injury or Asdrubal Cabrera trade, which are both decently likely.

12:19
Comment From ill
Any deeeeeep 3B sleepers for next year?

12:20
Eno Sarris: I’m assuming deeper than Bret Lawrie, so Cody Asche? David Freese might not be *this* bad. Will the Cubs bring up Baez to play third? Or give Olt a shot first?

12:20
Comment From Justin
Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen, and Gregory Polanco could be the most exciting outfield in the league by 2015, no? Or you know. Giancarlo Stanton instead of Polanco.

12:22
Eno Sarris: I like Polanco a lot. If Burnett comes back, which I think he will, this is a solid team about to get better, not worse. Burnett, Liriano, Cole, Taillon, decent depth guys like Morton and more behind him, good pen and some arms they can convert to relief if the pen gets hurt, and they just need to get a little more lineup help. I might actually trade Polanco for Stanton, just unsure if Polanco AND Taillon AND more is a great idea for a team like the Bucs.

12:22
Comment From ill
AJ Cole, Stephenson or Webster…..top value at SP for next year?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Long-term, it really could be Webster still, and he’s closest to the bigs so I’ll take him.

12:22
Comment From Razor
David Ortiz is definitely going to go way too high in drafts now next year, won’t he?

12:22
Eno Sarris: And Matt Carpenter and Michael Wacha.

12:22
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
I have this crazy suspicion that the sox may actually re-sign Ellsbury in a post-WS glow sort of move. They just threw all that crazy money to lock up Pedroia through his 30’s….

12:23
Eno Sarris: This is sort of where I was going with the ‘where’s the money’ idea. Boston has some money. They could trade Bradley and a pitcher to get a veteran pitcher… Price?

12:23
Comment From Michael
Why does Cigar City’s distribution suck so much?

How much faith do you have in Anthony Rendon as a viable MI starter next year? (In an OBP league that is.)

12:24
Eno Sarris: Top 24 MI? He’s right there.

12:24
Comment From potty
Andy Dirks, Gregor Blanco and Chris Heisey. Very deep league rank for next year.

12:24
Eno Sarris: You’ve got them in the right order. All have platoon issues, but Dirks has the most upside IMO.

12:24

12:25
Eno Sarris: For the 2014 Rockies?

12:25
Comment From NoBattingGloves
More major league innings playing the Outfield next year, Beltran or Traverses

12:26
Eno Sarris: Great handle. Great question. Taveras will be behind Jay and Craig, and one isn’t great, and the other gets hurt. But the Cards wait on their guys forever. Beltran, even if he signs with AL team, will only be occasional DH in first year IMO, so I’ll take him.

12:26
Comment From Shannon
103 till pitchers and catchers report, so there’s that, at least.

12:26
Comment From Brad Wesley
Should I be comfortable with Christian Yelich as my 5th outfielder

12:27
Eno Sarris: Unless he improves his K rate, I’m thinking .260 15/20 for him next year, and that’s reasonably optimistic. Does that play in your depth of league?

12:27
Comment From person hscer
Doesn’t Ken Rosenthal’s article arguing that Tim McCarver works hard make it even worse that he’s not very good?

12:27
Eno Sarris: I think the problem is that he’s just from another era.

12:27
Comment From Rick
Which FA do you think might surprise with an extraordinary amount of interest – someone kind of under the radar who turns out to be a hot commodity?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Is Matt Garza under the radar? I think a bit of a bidding war might happen. With the number of teams that need shortstops, Stephen drew might be a HOT COMMODITY!

12:29
Comment From Officer Farva
Napoli stated he wants to come back to Boston for how well he was treated even with the bad hip and all with the 3/39 going down the drain…..whats he getting paid next year and with who?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Good park for his skills. Texas would be too. I think he’ll stay in a hitter’s park. $10-15 m per year, 2-3 years. You still need a hip to play first.

12:30
Comment From dude
If we had WAR for the NBA, what would Lebron James’s WAR be?

12:30

Are you at all worried about Posey’s second half performance?

12:30
Eno Sarris: They use him a lot, I guess it could be catching, but he’s young enough. The rumor is he’ll end up at third sometime soon!

Eno Sarris: BUT ITS ALL OVER NOW

12:31
Comment From Adam
Why do so many people view Joe Kelly as a #4? Seems like he has a better breaking ball than Wacha.

12:31
Eno Sarris: Decent sample of results by now, and he’s not getting the swinging strikes for some reason.

12:31
Comment From skipperxc
Is there a scenario in which Trout is not the #1 fantasy pick next year?

12:31
Eno Sarris: Cabrera will have his defenders, but the body at the end of the season has me in the Trout camp.

12:31
Comment From Dave
18 of the last 19 WS winners were in the top half of payroll. PARITY!

12:32
Comment From Harry
Best Infield position for depth of “quality” players (AL/NL combined)? is 1B last among the 4 position?

12:34
Eno Sarris: I dunno, I look at first and I’m waiting. Yeah, Goldschmidt is probably worth a first-round pick, but I don’t think any other first baseman is, and if I don’t get Goldy, I’m waiting. For a while. I don’t think I’d even spend a first round pick on Chris Davis. Prince Fielder was tenth at the position last year! Second base is always the place I look. Or shortstop. I don’t think that’s changed, or will, because those are premium defensive positions.

12:34
Comment From Mike T.
The Cardinals’ warts were exposed in a big way the last couple weeks. What do they do at CF, SS, and 3B next year?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Taveras eventually, Drew or a trade, and Carpenter/Wong again I bet. I mean, they were great for 162.

12:35
Comment From David
Team most likely to disappoint next season and why?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Boston only because they probably won’t win a championship again. But, if you mean generally, I doubt the Indians make it back without some infusion of pitching talent.

12:36
Comment From Graham
Jorge Alfaro and Jurickson Profar for David Price.. Too much, not enough, right on point?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Probably need to add some flier High-A arm types.

12:36
Comment From Frank
Eno, you have to give something to get something! Does that Myers-Shields deal even look so bad now? Three of those prospects were nonfactors.

12:37
Eno Sarris: Yes it looks bad. One more year of Shields and Myers will be a Ray for six more and oh yeah Odorizzi will give them something too.

12:37
Comment From Mitch
Who are some of next year’s rookie darling pitchers? Stroman and Butler maybe?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Taijuan Walker. Danny Salazar. Maybe someone random like David Hale. Luke Jackson in Texas is close.

12:39
Comment From Yankee Fan
Baseball why hath thou forsaken me?

Comment From A Tribe Called Guest
I’m thinking of going all in for Stanton in my 10-team dynasty. My OF is Jennings, Soriano, Trumbo, Aoki, Choo. Two of those guys and a pick seem fair? More?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Yes. Last time to get Stanton at all if he returns to excellence or is traded.

12:40
Eno Sarris: And he’s young enough to do the first and his team is crazy enough to do the second.

12:40
Comment From John Stamos
IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE BUT IT’S OVER NOOOOOOW. In a dynasty league snake draft, rank Guerrero, Abreu, and Tanaka.

12:41
Eno Sarris: Abreu first. Even if there are questions, he’s the hitter and he ended up in a great spot to hit. Tanaka, if he ends up in an NL park, might nudge ahead. Guerrero is so far behind he’s not in convo. I think he’ll hit .250 with 18 homers or so.

12:41
Comment From Dennis
Are there any Fantasy Leagues that use defensive metrics in their scoring or is it still too volatile a measurement? Seems like that’d make it more interesting/exciting…

12:41
Eno Sarris: Scoresheet has a defensive component but it’s a bit of a black box for me.

12:41
Comment From Mike T.
When you’re down to your last keeper and it’s choosing between a stud with a little value or a solid guy with a lot of value, which way do you lean? I can keep Matt Carpenter in the 18th or Beltre in the 3rd. My other three keepers are Machado (21st), Trout (22nd), and J. Fernandez (25th). We keep 4.

12:42
Eno Sarris: I like value. Even if you had to spend a second to get Beltre back, you’d still end up with 11 or so rounds of value from Carp.

12:42
Comment From Sean

who’s playing CF/RF for the sox next year Dejesus/Victorino/CYoung trio?

12:44
Eno Sarris: If they don’t sign or trade for one, It’s Victorino in center or Bradley, and maybe a DDJ type to round it out.

12:44
Comment From Jeff
Speaking of Matt Adams, does he get a full time gig next year?

12:44
Eno Sarris: yeah unless they sign a vet, it’s Craig to OF and Adams to 1B. And if they sign a vet, I think it’ll be for third or short.

What do you think Jean Segura does next year? Closer to 1st half or 2nd half?

12:45
Eno Sarris: I like him around full year stats, minus a few homers. So I guess a little more like the second half.

12:45
Comment From Brian
Keep Manny Machado or Starlin?

12:46
Eno Sarris: ooooooh. I think Manny very overvalued. Was worth $11 in our values. And he might miss a month. Can Starlin be worth double-digit dollars in a full season? Of course! he’s a shortstop. I’d be tempted by Starlin, and would shop Manny.

12:46

Comment From Shannon
Uehara’s Boston closer next year?

12:47

is Miguel Sano kinda a deep 3B sleeper for 2014 if he continues to bash milb pitching? Twins showed some aggression promoting Arcia in 2013

Arenado going to mash this year?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Nah, but he’ll be mixed league worthy. .280+, 15-20.

12:48
Comment From Haymaker
Sounds increasingly like the Cubs are not going to extend Samardzija. They have to trade him then, right? Mistake not locking him up or no? Best to use that money to make a strong run at Tanaka?

12:48
Eno Sarris: He could end up on the Braves! How they use the money probably depends on what they get back in the trade.

12:48
Comment From Seymour
Mets the surprise bc they’ll fail to do anything when there are finally expectations? is that what you mean by surprise? Sandy has already backtracked by saying not to expect a “spending spree.” It’s the annual campaign to lower the bar. Mets won’t do anything substantive and you know it.

12:49
Eno Sarris: Then the surprise will be that the frigging Mets have a sub-$60m payroll.

12:49
Eno Sarris: How about this. I think they should get Stephen Drew, the cheaper of Curtis Granderson and Shin-Soo Choo, and a fifth starter. That’ll cost em over $30m and they’ll be under $100m. Is that ‘nothing’?

12:50
Comment From Mitch
How about an exciting infield of Kris Bryant, Javy Baez, Starlin, and Rizzo? Think Castro would move to 2nd?

12:50
Eno Sarris: I’m interested in Bryant’s swing and miss game, but yeah there’s something there. Castro might bring more back in trade if he has a bounce back at short.

12:50
Comment From Seymour
Mets can’t move Murphy w/o a viable backup plan at 2B.

12:51
Eno Sarris: Murphy is a year away from not being able to handle second base himself IMO.

12:51
Comment From Pale Hose
How much career WAR does it take for the elite prospects to be considered a success? It seems that 20 career WAR for Bogaerts would be disappointing, but that makes him a top 850 hitter ever.

12:51
Eno Sarris: I believe the definition of ‘not a bust’ in the research I’ve seen is 1.5 WAR plus per season.

12:51
Eno Sarris: So a regular but not average.

12:52
Eno Sarris: And 20 WAR would likely be not a bust.

12:52
Comment From Frank
What are your thoughts on Rick Hahn?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Love him. A little suspicious of his partner in crime, but I think it might be a good mix at the top of a team.

12:52
Comment From Andrew
Any relievers that will be converted into starters, Chapman, Rosenthal?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Martinez?

12:52
Comment From Brad Wesley
Regarding Corbin,do you think his late season demise was him getting kicked in the nads by regression, or fatigue from having surpassed his previous innings max by like 30? If I can sell someone on the fatigue angle I may be able to get more.

12:53
Eno Sarris: Try to sell them on fatigue lol. I think he’s a fastball/slider lefty and needs to work on his change.

12:53

So is Adam Jones a 2014 bust candidate or am I overthinking his peripherals?

12:54
Eno Sarris: He’s not 30 yet. But a step back to 30 and 10 instead of 33 and 14? Sure. Maybe a little bit worse BABIP soon. It’ll start to creep in and suddenly you’ll look up and he’s hitting .270 with 20 homers and five stolen bases like he did at the beginning of his career. Bell curves!

Today I am going as unemployed, non-paid fantasy sports writer for Halloween (not a stretch)…what are you going as Eno?

12:55
Eno Sarris: The father of my son, but I could just change to underpaid and steal your idea.

12:55
Comment From Guest
How did you do in your Scoresheet leagues this year?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Took my worst place team to a game or two out of the WC, so progress. Traded a reliever and a prospect for Donaldson, so now I have a third baseman and just need to add a little pitching in the offseason. Have Buxton and Zimmer, so some interesting talent coming.

12:56
Comment From Michael
I know craft beer distribution isn’t great in general, but I live in Orlando, and even when I visit Tampa, Cigar City has nothing. Even in specialty beer places. Just the same 3. A few years back they’d have new bombers every month or so.

12:56
Eno Sarris: Weird.

12:57
Comment From Colin
Cubs supposedly shopping for FA catchers, Shark distancing himself from contract talks, Beef Welling and Shark plus prospects gets….something, right? Theo and Jed maybe have a big trade coming this summer?

12:57
Eno Sarris: yeah but it’s not a Profar/Stanton package is it?

12:57
Comment From Jeff
Does Tijuan Walker start the year in the minors? Is he a future ace?

12:57
Eno Sarris: I think Walker is up next year. There are still a few questions between him and ace-dom though.

Does Marcell Ozuna develop into something more than a deep league 4th/5th OF?

12:59
Eno Sarris: I’m nervous about his strikeout rate, like I am with all the Marlins OF/OF prospects. And Ozuna adds a lack of BB%. But he’s good defensively and has more power than he’s shown. I think he can be a 3rd OF just on power alone.

1:00
Comment From Seymour
think the Giants deal Panda?

1:00
Eno Sarris: I don’t think they want to pay him if he has a good year, and they may not want to play him if he has a bad year. So they might go into the season playing him, but might trade him if the team is no good again and he’s good.

1:00
Comment From Officer Farva
I know its early but whats a serious guess at Simmons next year slash line coutning stats? what about a PEAK YEAR!!!

1:02
Eno Sarris: Thanks to Steamer, we have a .265/.313/.397 projection, and I’ll take the over on their .274 BABIP. So I still think he can .280/.320/.420, but I guess i’ll usse that as my peak number. 20/5 in HR/sB.

1:02
Comment From Shannon
John Lackey. Who would have thought he’d make the ascension to Red Sox hero after the disastrous start to his Red Sox tenure?

1:02
Eno Sarris: And yet I bet he’s worse next year.

1:02
Comment From Jeff
Brad Miller projection for next year? Is he 12 teamer obp material?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Steamer has him with a sub-8 bb%, but he was double-digit in minors. So I’ll believe that a bit, and give him a .335ish OBP, maybe .340, with double-digit power and steals. Yeah that’s 12-teamer OBP MI action.

1:03
Comment From Brian
Would next year be a good time to trade Cabrera for younger talent before he totally breaks down? I forsee a rapid decline; what do you think?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Not until they win a world series.

1:03
Comment From Mitch
What’s Brandon McCarthy’s value going into next year? He’s my worst pitcher in a 20 team dynasty. Thinking about dropping him for Stroman

1:04
Eno Sarris: He needs a changeup and he’s not a spring chicken, I bet you can get him back if you want next year.

1:04
Comment From Brian
Do you have a top 5 picks for next season in your head yet?

1:05
Eno Sarris: I’ll be mocking this weekend at First Pitch in Arizona, and I have the fourth pick. So I’m looking at that question right now, and yeah I guess so. Trout, Cabrera, Cano, Goldschmidt, Cutch? Tulo and Cargo figure in at #5.

1:05
Comment From Frank
DRaysBay had an interesting idea: Phillips, Bailey, and a few prospects for Price and Gimenez. Think there’s any chance that happens?

1:06
Eno Sarris: I doubt Phillips is Rays material, and the trade isn’t as clear a win as some of their past deals.

Trade question! Kemp+Stras+Alvarez+Neil Walker for Longoria+Kipnis? I’m worried about Kemp. Better to sit tight on him or try to trade?

1:07

1:07

How will Gausman perform next year….he has EVERYTHING for an arsenal to abuse batters even in the AL east……

1:08
Eno Sarris: This is how I feel. He has to be good.

1:08
Comment From Mike T.
Well, the NBA does have win shares and LeBron has led the league the last 5 years while averaging 17.6 “wins” per season. Pretty good.

On 106.7 radio in DC, Mike Rizzo says Matt Williams will “implement sabermetrics and be aware of positioning and trends.”

1:09
Eno Sarris: When I talked to Matt Wiliams, he said he’d allow his players to think on the field (beyond scouting reports), though, so there’s some old-school in him. I like the hire though.

Keeper league: Price or Scherzer? Teheran or Miller? Trade whoever brings back the most value?

Name on the front of the jersey aside, what are your expectations for Profar in 2014? (Assuming fulltime MLB playing time.)

1:11
Eno Sarris: .260/.325/.400, 16/10

1:11
Comment From Guest
Jhonny Peralta in 2014….Melky circa 2013?

1:12
Eno Sarris: Well my main problem with him is that I think poor defensive play has been propped up by good positioning and he’s no longer a shortstop. Does he hit well enough to be a COF or CIF? Eh.

In a keeper where most of my core is in the 27-31 range, do I stick with what gives me the best chance next year (Burnett or Choo) or go with raw upside (Gausman or Soler) for my 10th and final keeper spot?

1:14
Eno Sarris: You have to wait on Burnett. Gausman is a pitcher, and unless you have eight hitters so far, I’d probably lena hitter. Choo vs Soler? OBP makes it a slam dunk for Choo, probably Choo anyway, consdiering your team.

1:14
Comment From Sly Cobb
Talk the Pirates out of James Loney, plz!!! This is Kotchman 2.0, no?

1:14

1:14
Comment From JOE
Am I crazy for thinking Didi Gregorius is decent?

1:15
Eno Sarris: In real life, the D makes up for flaws. In fantasy, I’m not sure that bat plays in most leagues.

1:15
Comment From Buster Nosey
Jeremy Hellickson proved he’s smoke and mirrors, right?

1:16
Eno Sarris: He has a nasty changeup. He needs to adjust to the league, who’s reaching out and poking that to the opposite field. I think he’ll have a decent year or two ahead of him.

1:16
Comment From Jake
Are Andrew Bailey and Hanrahan good buy-low candidates for someone? Think they wind up back in Boston?

1:17
Eno Sarris: I think it’s always easier for a pitcher to continue rehab where they started it.

1:17
Comment From Big Toucan

Jose Fernandez a top 15 pitcher next year?

1:17
Eno Sarris: yeah I tried to keep him down as far as I could, but he still crept in around 11-13. He’s going in top 7 though…

1:18
Comment From Officer Farva
Any chance Soler makes his Cubby debut next year? I mean if he can avoid charging the mound with a bat or anything comparable?

1:18
Eno Sarris: He needs some Double-A time. I doubt it. I mean, maybe in September.

1:18
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
they may stop using the term “double play combo” if Baez and Castro both ended up at 2B/SS in any arrangement in the same infield

any thoughts on who chases down the Marlon BYRD man? he made some real changes to his approach this year no?

1:19
Eno Sarris: Went for the fly balls, but I distrust him, and the PED test in his rearview will keep his offers to one or two years. maybe even in Pitt.

1:19
Comment From Dave
Charlie Morton for 2014 most underrated starting pitcher?

1:19
Eno Sarris: I do like him with the added velo, but he has wicked platoon splits.

1:19
Comment From pogotheostrich
Am I crazy or does Martinez have the best stuff of all the Cardinals pitchers. His pitches just seem to have a ton of movement.

1:20
Eno Sarris: Sorta lacks a changeup though, so his platoon splits are bad. Sinker/slider, but with tons of movement yes.

1:20
Comment From JEB
I’m going out for lunch now, but I’ll leave you with his parting gift. I just ordered a bottle of Snake Venom (67.5% abv) are you jealous or scared for me?

1:20
Eno Sarris: Scared. Which is fitting.

1:20
Comment From Mitch
Ike Davis a good fit in Minnesota?

1:20
Eno Sarris: I think he’s a decent buy-low, but he’s going to cost an OF.

1:21
Eno Sarris: I doubt they non-tender… but they might. Others think they will.

1:21
Comment From Seymour
Cards prob get Drew if they want him. Mets need to make a trade for a SS. Everth?

1:21
Eno Sarris: Eh, if they don’t get Drew, I think they should focus on OF and give Ruben another shot. 2015 with Harvey back a little more important than 2014.

1:21
Eno Sarris: Everth only has one tool.

1:22
Comment From Ian
Are you trick or treating wtih your son this year? If so, who gets the candy?

1:22

Comment From Just A Guy
I did extensive experiments in college relating beards to lady attention. In my experience, a beard allows ladies to self select based on their preference. The results showed that it was harder to pursue a hypothetical lady, but more ladies end up pursuing the bearded subject which yielded a net positive in lady attention. Sadly SSS caveats may apply.

Comment From Seth
Do you think Gregory Polanco develops into a star? He looks like he has all the tools of Marte but with more pop and patience.

Give Adam Jones to get Justin Verlander? Currently my 10 keepers are Santana, Davis, Wright, Desomond, Jones, Choo, Price, Bailey, Minor, Kimbrel.

1:30
Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t keep four SPs in my first ten picks. Choo and Minor (or Bailey) for Verlander, that I would do.

1:30
Comment From Hogwagon
took over an abandoned otto neu team, like the roster for the most part except it has Fielder at $44…assuming i can’t trade, do i just throw him back and try to get him for less? even in a down year he was still a very good 1b in ON scoring

1:31
Eno Sarris: I bet you can at least get him back for $40s. he’s not a $50 player after that year, even in a restocking draft where things can get crazy. Look at the teams that don’t have a keeper 1B, and where they are in standings. If the contendors have keepers, the rebuilders won’t stay in on a bidding after $40 or so IMO.

1:31
Comment From oldseacaptain
I have to keep 4 of Votto, McCutchen, Miggy, Kipnis and Heywrard. Who is the odd man out?
