Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 1/19/17

1:03
Eno Sarris: This feels like music that has come before but, unlike War on Drugs or others I’ve heard, I don’t hate it for that fact. Kinda love it.

12:01
Five tool: Eno the baseball guy! Ludes ludes ludes ludes ludes ludes!

12:02
Jack: Hey Eno – where do you see Franklin Gutierrez ending up? Do you think an unexpected team like the Dodgers, even with their OF log jam, could swoop in and get a guy who they can platoon vs Lefties?

12:02
Eno Sarris: Unexpected: Boston. More expected, especially after Mahtook trade: Tampa.

12:02
Jason: What’s the highest you see Cotton going in terms of SP this year? Top 40? Is keeping him in 17 team league for 8 bucks a solid price?

12:03
Eno Sarris: I’d keep him there. I bet he goes in the top 60 unless I’m inflating him too much.

12:03
CamdenWarehouse: So how do we find the Jonah Keri of Edgar Martinez?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Mariners literati?

12:03
Bork: Hello, friend!

12:03
Alan: Where are you at with Michael Fulmer? Eventual top 10 pitcher potential, or is he more someone that will float in the 20-30 range?

12:03
Eno Sarris: I see ace. He always had a great slider and then he made that changeup great. Only thing that worries me is health.

12:03
Eric: What level of Lynn can we expect this year?

12:04
Eno Sarris: 3.7/1.2/7K9, seems he can do that in his sleep. If command is off a bit, he’ll give up more homers to lefties.

12:04
Jimmy: After Paxton changed his delivery, it seems like he had “elite stuff” but only pretty good results. If I’m wrong, please correct me. If I’m right, why might that be?

12:04
Eno Sarris: I’m not sure his secondary stuff is amazing. Plus plus fastball, obviously.

12:04
Jack: After the (justified) frustration that people are showing with Jorge Posada failing to reach the 5% vote threshold, who are some of the other most egregious names to fall off the ballot recently? Jim Edmonds and Kenny Lofton are the first two that come to mind for me

12:05
Eno Sarris: Yup. But it’s not surprising that guys were defense is a question are bubble guys. If we’re still having a hard time quantifying that, the voting block is going to be even further behind.

12:05
Eno Sarris: (pre-emptive sorry to Scott Rolen)

12:07
Chuck: Let’s say you have the first/fifth/tenth overall picks in the draft. If you could guarantee any real player’s career outcomes with these picks, what is the lowest you would be happy with?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Had to poke around. Obviously it doesn’t always work out, but I’d want like a Harold Baines at least, and then maybe a Michael Cuddyer type and then maybe a reliever or fifth starter?

12:09
Brad: 14 team OBP league, Dahl or benintendi for this year only? Thanks.

12:11
Eno Sarris: Projections say Dahl by a buck and it’s hard to disagree. Even if you dream on Ben to be better, Dahl can be better than his projections, too.

12:11
CamdenWarehouse: Is Kopech hitting 110 real?

12:11
Eno Sarris: It was what you call a Pull Down, so he was running before he threw it. I know people hate the way that looks, but it’s like maxing out with weight lifting. You do it to achieve game level stress in the offseason, and you don’t do it a ton.

12:12
AKA22: Any excitement about Straily now that he’s in Miami? Not sure why but i kind of want to gamble on him, Chen, and Conley. What order do you like them in for fantasy?

12:13
Eno Sarris: I like him, but last in the group. Probably still Chen Conley Straily, betting on Chen to get the pop-ups back with better health. But the first two are closer than the third, as much as I think Straily is a legit starter in a decent spot.

12:14
Jack: What are ur thoughts on Josh Bell this year?

12:14
Eno Sarris: I think it’ll be like it was in the minors — defense will be awkward and patience will be ahead of power.

12:14
Jack: Is Oakland done for the offseason or do they wait out the market for one of the remaining bats?

12:15
Eno Sarris: I bet they have one more in them.

12:15
Joseph : What is your feeling on the Rangers rotation with the additions of Cashner and Ross? I feel like it is a top 5 rotation in the AL assuming Ross is healthy. I don’t expect Cashner to find his former ways, but that would be a huge boost. Excited to see Darvish with hopefully a full season and think Perez must make a step forward if Texas is going to compete in the AL West. What’s your take?

12:15
Eno Sarris: I think it’s top heavy.

12:15
Dan Szymborski: Is there something to be said for Kendrys Morale? I’m worried aaboutthe deal

12:15
Eno Sarris: Exit velo and launch angle say he’s still good, and he might enjoy hitting in a hitter’s park for once.

12:15
pirates hurdles: There are a handful of public ballots with either Bonds or Rocket, but not both. How does someone rationalize voting for 1, but not the other?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Biggest head scratcher to me. You hate to scream bias but

12:16
Sterling Malory Chris Archer: Can we get an RIP to William Onyeabor? https://m.

12:16
Ttt: What. Should do if I hurt my. willy

12:16
Hannah Hochevar: First Alex C came for your Arsenal Score and we did nothing.

12:17
Eno Sarris: Well done.

12:17
inquiry: FanGraphs Depth Charts, ZiPS and Steamer all project nearly identical 2017 WAR for rookie outfielders Andrew Benintendi of Boston and Mitch Haniger of Seattle. Does the 3 1/2-year age difference explain the contrasting hype for each hitter?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Shape of the production also. Not sure I agree that Benintendi is a -6 outfielder.

12:18
Jerry: Would you rather have Paxton or Felix this year (real, fantasy, whatever)?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Paxton.

12:18
Craiggers: Thoughts on the Myers extension?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Seems a bit much, would’ve liked to have seen another healthy season in there.

12:18
SouthSider: Why is David Robertson not being moved? SF and Nats definitely need closers, could net some good prospects for ChiSox.

12:19
Eno Sarris: Maybe Chicago didn’t like the offers and is hoping that a team will give up a bevy of young guys at the deadline once they know they’re headed to the postseason?

12:20
Tommy Tutone: Eno! In a dynasty league would you trade Eloy Jimenez to get Michael Fulmer?

12:20
Eno Sarris: If you’re competitive? I might want another veteran piece back, but the basic structure is fine for me. Eloy is probably not Jorge Soler but he’s also not NOT Jorge Soler.

12:21
Wyatt: Best player to be forced to sign a minor league contract this offseason?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Chris Carter, it looks like.

12:21
Hannah Hochevar: Who am I rooting for the Orioles to sign at this point? (Need to replace my Michael Saunders shrine, which was already sort of crappy.)

12:22
Eno Sarris: Luis Valbuena?

12:22
SouthSider: Well SF has Melancon but their bullpen was no bueno last year. could still use Robertson as set up.

12:22
Eno Sarris: And SF probably wasn’t going to give up anything real nice until they see if they more in WC or divisional mix.

12:22
Marc: Eno, how (if at all) does release point affect spin rate? e.g. if all else was held equal, would an overhand release cause spin more than a sidearm release?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Spin is the same, depends on something innate. However, you harvest the spin differently. Basically, if you’re inherently low spin, you should throw from a lower slot to get more fade to go with natural sink. If you’re high spin, you should throw from higher slot to get more ride from your existing spin.

12:24
Ryan: What are your thoughts on the return the Reds got for Straily?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Pretty good, considering they picked up Straily for nothing and he’s more of a fill out a rotation than a building block piece.

12:24
CamdenWarehouse: Why is the frustration that Posada fell off the ballot justified? I don’t think anyone is seriously saying that he’s a hall of famer, right? They just want him to hang around for a while and get some respect. That seems like a luxury for when the ballot isn’t stacked with legitimate hall resumes.

12:24
Eno Sarris: Good point.

12:25
Maxamuz: My top 10 SP right now are :
Clayton Kershaw
Max Scherzer
Madison Bumgarner
Jake Arrieta
Chris Sale
Zack Greinke
David Price
Corey Kluber
Jon Lester
Cole Hamels

Any disagreements?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Needs more Lucas Duda.

12:25
Devil Ray J. Johnson: When you hear “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” by The Police, do you change all the ee-oo’s to ee-noo’s?

12:25
Hannah Hochevar: Is it weird that I’ve never seen Jonah Keri and John Kerry in the same place at the same time? Or just a function of 1, their different roles in society, and 2, my never having met either?

12:26
mtsw: Given how Bonds treated reporters, reasonable to think “Clemens but not Bonds” ballots belong to guys Bonds has personally been a jerk to.

12:26
Eno Sarris: shaky end, good beginning to that interlude.

12:26
joedcamp: Are u presenting at SABR Analytics? Any beer filled meet ups?

12:27
Eno Sarris: I will be on a pitching panel at SABR Analtyics, hopefully March 9 or 10 because I have to be at the Kona Beer Fest in Hawaii March 12. March 5, Pitch Talks which is beer and meetup and baseball! #lifesohard

12:27
Wyatt: Looking at Dan Straily’s 2016 numbers, has to be the luckiest year I’ve seen in a while. 236 BABIP, 81% LOB, 33 hard%, and 5.02 xFIP. Reds getting three minor leaguers for him one of the smartest moves of the offseason?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Career BABIP is .255 and he’s an extreme fly ball guy with some pop-up skill. I wouldn’t use hard% now that we have better numbers. Basically 50th percentile for exit velo. Some hope that another year of training gets his old velo back.

12:29
Eno Sarris: But yeah it was a good move.

12:29
Zach: Re: the question about Bonds and Rocket having some disparity. I’ve read from at least one voter it has a lot to do with the fact that Bonds steroid use can be roughly outlined to when it started, and his numbers before that were still HOF caliber by a wide margin.

12:30
Eno Sarris: There’s a jump that seems obvious in the Clemens numbers, but it’s more obvious in Bonds.

12:30
Eno Sarris: The “he wasn’t nice to me” argument is maybe the worst one I’ve ever heard.

12:30
Halo Halo (hold the corn): Who closes in Minnesota?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Perkins to begin? I still like May later in the year.

12:30
The Schwartz: If both are starting…Straily or Gsellman?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Gsellman.

12:30
Eno Sarris: Velo still worth a lot.

12:30
Black Beard’s Delight: Hey ENO! I read an interesting article on Tyler Glasnow this week. He is shortening his delivery and the Pirates are giving him his 2 seam back. Mainly just wanted to share that with you, but does that improve your outlook on him?

12:31
Eno Sarris: If he can throw the two-seam to the middle of the plate because he has confidence in the movement, maybe one or both combined will help his command. He would take a huge leap forward if he could just get ahead more often because the curve is great.

12:31
Randy Savage: How do you feel about Benintendi going into this year. I can keep him in a keep 6 OBP league, but I’m not sure the upside is there to be a fantasy superstar.

12:32
Eno Sarris: In OBP I think there is absolutely that upside. I think he could eventually have .400 OBP seasons.

12:32
Halo Halo (hold the corn): If Garrett Richards is throwing normal in spring training, how much do you bid in an AL auction (standard 5×5 roto)?

12:32
Eno Sarris: 12-15? low 1/ high 2.

12:32
Adam: Is AJ Pollock going to return to form this year?

12:32
Eno Sarris: yes.

12:32
Dave Aunepetitegraine: For fantasy next year, where would you draft Gary Sanchez? 2nd catcher off the board?

12:32
Eno Sarris: yes

12:33
Tony: Are the Cubs putting themselves in a very dangerous position going into the season with not a ton of 6th starter options (and a 5th starter that doesn’t have a ton of MLB experience starting over a full season)? The Cubs have had extraordinary luck with rotation health over the last 2 seasons, they could be in a really tough spot if any of their top 3 starters miss significant time.

12:34
Eno Sarris: Pretty sure they know they need pitching, from what I know they’re definitely focused on it. This was a bad offseason to add starting pitching, though.

12:34
Devil Ray J. Johnson: Drew Smyly as a Mariner: Buy or Sell?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Buy if you’re spending like he’s a fantasy 4/5 in mixed leagues, 2/3 in AL.

12:35
BJ: Eno man, I’m wavering on Cotton vs. Gsellman. BP now rates Gsellman a 60 and Cotton a 45. Help me keep the Cotton faith.

12:37
Eno Sarris: We all have our own opinions. By movement, velocity gap, and outcomes, Cotton’s change is already better than anything Gsellman throws. G has the velo, and that’s all I’ll really give him, and it’s not like Cotton is below average.

12:38
TommyLasordid: I’m beginning to think Dodgers will sign Utley and go with a platoon (Taylor, Hernandez from right side) at 2B. Agree? Would that be sufficient in NL West, at least until trade deadline?

12:38
Eno Sarris: I think the Dozier deal will happen, maybe three-way… but there’s certainly no better second base option available freely.

12:38
Devil Ray J. Johnson: Nate Karns as a Royal: Buy or Sell?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Sell. There’s hope — if he raises the arm slot and finds his health — but that’s two things he has to do, and he was always thought of as injury-prone.

12:39
Johnny5Alive: how much do the mets suck this year? obviously, they need bullpen (which they wont pay for apparently), but they also need a catcher, a real CF. Plus they are apparently keeping Bruce, which means conforto wont even play bc TC is a moron.

12:40
Eno Sarris: I actually like Lagares as d-first, and if d’Arnaud’s shoulder is healthy, there’s hope there. Reed and Robles are good, Smoker is intriguing, and there’s a starter that might end up in that pen.

12:40
Eno Sarris: On that last point, let me BIGGEST SIGH EVER. Not to you, but to the team.

12:40
Rex: Hey Eno, love the chats. If Michael Conforto was still prospect eligible, about where would he place in a top 100? (I’m trying to gauge his value)

12:41
Eno Sarris: I can’t believe he’d be worse than top 15.

12:41
Mick D: Looking back at the Reds pitching staff since 2012, is it fair to say Dusty once again ruined a staff ( Latos, Bailey, Arroyo, Cingrani, Leake and Broxton) or does the decline of the staff fall more on Price? Or just bad luck or just pitchers?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Latos was always headed there because of his conditioning and mechanics IMO, Arroyo and Bailey were older dudes, and Cingrani was always headed to the pen.

12:42
joedcamp: Dude, almost forgot about this chat. Stoked. NFBC Draft Champions. I need your help ENO for some late-late round guys that could impact 2017??

12:45
Eno Sarris: Corey Dickerson, Travis Jankowski, Rajai Davis, Adam Lind if he signs in the right place, Charlie Tilson (5/20+ maybe?) , Alex Dickerson, Hunter Renfroe, Ketel Marte on hitting side. Seems like there’s some late speed to be had.

12:47
Eno Sarris: pitchers: Jeremy Hellickson, Brock Stewart as a stash, Daniel Norris, Jharel Cotton, Jose de Leon, Andrew Triggs, Dylan Bundy (if he’s not earlier), Ty Blach (boring but steady), Mike Montgomery.

12:47
Guest: As a longtime reader I can’t tell you the feeling of helplessness I had when I read your chat transcript last week (wasn’t here for the live chat) and no one would finish the lightning round intro.

12:47
Eno Sarris: you and me

12:48
Eno Sarris:

12:48
Adam: Gary Sanchez or Lucroy?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Gary

12:49
Flaka: Gausmann or Hill?

12:49
Eno Sarris: Hill.

12:49
Brad: why are most pundits bearish on fulmer and you see ace potential, and what worries you about his health? also, would you keep fulmer over dahl in 14 team keeper league? Thanks.

12:50
Eno Sarris: If Fulmer repeats his peripherals from last year, yeah he won’t be as good. But with that swSTR% and that change, plus a slider he can now mix in more often for Ks instead of grounders, I see more Ks next year, maybe significantly more.

12:51
Oh No’s: Will Rajai Davis play enough to get critical mass in SB?

12:52
Eno Sarris: yes. The other options are not good and also all right handed.

12:52
Guest: I’m an Eno Sarris hipster, in that I liked him before it was cool. Do you even REMEMBER Jordan from class, man? Or the werewolf?

12:52
Eno Sarris: JORDAN! Man he could by a lawyer by now.

12:52
Drtrix: Hola Eno. Quick beer question. Are your awesome beermail twitter photos send by private individuals or are you part of any beer of the month clubs?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Trades.

12:52
Erik: With the lack of spots available for even actually decent sluggers, what are the odds that Ryan Howard never plays another MLB game?

12:53
Eno Sarris: Oh man he wasn’t even on my sheet. It’s a little better for a lefty, but you’d still probably want Logan Morrison over Howard right?

12:54
2-D: Does Jose Urena have a future as a starter?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Not really a fan.

12:54
Guest: What’s going to be the difference between Beergraphs and October?

12:54
Eno Sarris: More intersectional stuff, more tools, more fun, more events (shows! dinners! beer fests!), more travel pieces, waaaaaay better pictures, look.

12:55
Bleh: When did you realize you were more interested in pitching than hitting? has that always been the case?

12:55
Eno Sarris: Wen I realized how much worse projections were for pitchers, I think.

12:55
Barren Dalsley: What are the chances that Chacin is San Diego’s next pitching reclamation project?

12:56
Eno Sarris: I want to see him throw that curve a lot more. It’s his best pitch and he shelved it in Coors.

12:56
Big Joe Mufferaw: Eno! What is a good cold weather beer (for Ice Fishing lets say)

12:56
Eno Sarris: Barrel aged stout.

12:56
Johnny5Alive: Thor isnt in the top 10 for maxamus? he should be above at least 7 of those guys

12:56
Eno Sarris: Hamels or Lester.

12:56
E5: I had a dream that I made really great comments and questions in today’s chat. Seriously. I did. Now I’m all freaked out by the pressure!

12:56
Sonny: The packy up the street from my office has a wine sample vending machine. How many of those tiny 1oz dentist office plastic cup samples can I have if I promise to buy a bottle?

12:57
Eno Sarris: One per bottle they are offering samples of minus two. Gotta show some restraint.

12:57
Eno Sarris:

12:58
Eno Sarris: nice to see some reggae feeling in new music.

12:58
JP: What should I do with all the empty growlers in my garage? Recycle?

12:59
Eno Sarris: Keep your favorites, keep the blank ones since you can use them at most places, and yeah you only need like three or four at one time…

12:59
Alien Raines: Infernal hails, Eno. Of the clump of pitchers competing for the 4th/5th spot in the Yankees rotation – Green, Cessa, Severino, Mitchell, Montgomery, Enns – do you have a favorite? Green did dominate AAA and post 10.2 K/9 in a small ML sample, and his slider looks nice to me.

1:00
Eno Sarris: Not Mitchell at all. I think Cessa can go back down and work. Severino needs to find one (two?) secondary pitches, so I actually think it might be Green.

1:00
Moltar: ugh, you have to be at a beer fest in hawaii? That sounds just awful.

1:00
Eno Sarris: inoright.

1:00
Sandy Kazmir: Logan Forstyhe for Yusniel Diaz and Brock Stewart. Who says no?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Not me, but aren’t the Dodgers saying no to adding Brock to JDL for Dozier?

1:00
Curtis: Cotton or CJ Edwards? Keep forever

1:01
Eno Sarris: Cotton. CJE should be a closer but when. I do think he might be the emergency/backup plan in the rotation, but they sorta need him in the pen too.

1:01
Beano Sarris: I help keep farts down.

1:01
Gas-X Cistulli: So do I

1:02
joedcamp: Any info on March 5 pitch talks?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Valley Bar I think it’s called? Should be able to get a lot of different writers to come since it’s Spring and all.

1:04
Moltar: Can Neftali Feliz regain some of his old magic in Milwaukee?

1:04
Eno Sarris: He got some of it back last year.

1:04
jon: Mike Montgomery a real starter?

1:05
Eno Sarris: The cutter helps the command I think. Cutter and change both were top 25 pitches. Curve is above average. Has the pieces.

1:05
E5: 2 classes on field trips! That means I get to stay for the entire Eno chat!

1:05
Eno Sarris: Looks a bit different than my meetups but sure.

1:06
E: Something that is useless but mildly interesting from your latest article on free agent sluggers, Luis Valbuena, Mike Napoli, Brandon Moss, Franklin Gutierrez, and Ryan Raburn all played for the Indians at one point.

1:06
Eno Sarris: They love platoon bats!

1:06
Moltar: What are the chances Kelly Johnson signs with the Braves and is traded to the Mets midseason? Can Bartolo go with him?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Seems like that first thing happens every year.

1:06
E5: Loved the new arsenal stuff yesterday from Alex. Is Ray just a few less homer’s away from getting back to 2015 numbers?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Change is bad, is still bad, but two elite pitches makes him super interesting. He might be more like Randy Johnson than Carlos Rodon is.

1:07
Brad: blake snell, fixes command issues and becomes star or still struggles with it?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Love him. The slider was big. I think he breaks out.

1:08
Kent Hrbek Human Shreck: Is Kepler good for 20 HR, 325 OBP?

1:08
Eno Sarris: yes.

1:08
5 Run Homer: Will someone tell me what all the hype behind Jose De Leon is about?

1:08
Eno Sarris: Command I guess.

1:08
Maxamuz: I’m legit drafting Duda again this year. One year he’ll be the MVP and everyone will have to bow down to his greatness.

1:09
Curtis: Do you remember the first unhearalded prospect you successfully ID’d as “he’s gonna be great”!

1:09
Eno Sarris: Don’t know if he was first but I was all over Dallas Keuchel in both directions.

1:09
E: I love Hopslam but am I crazy for passing on it because its too expensive? I love the stuff but its almost twice as much as other 6ers that I also love.

1:09
Eno Sarris: It’s also super thick honey.

1:09
ChicagoCardinal: I have three names for business ventures. Please rank Pho King, Reggae Tony’s and “Caulk amongst yourselves” in order of your level of investment.

1:09
Eno Sarris: Kickstarter Pho King.

1:10
SDinSEA: Any hope for Luis Sardinas being a 2nd div regular at SS?

1:11
Eno Sarris: It’s interesting that he’s a switch-hitter, but no power or patience.. one of those will have to change.

1:11
E5: If Perdomo can add a change to get the LHH out, is he a breakout candidate?

1:11
Eno Sarris: He was throwing a splitter more often in the second half of the second half, when he was a 3.75ish type starter. I can’t see much more in there, but that’s useful.

1:12
E5: Bagwell I can see, but wasn’t Pudge in the Mitchel Report? Doesn’t that just stink?

1:12
Eno Sarris: A lot of eggs in the Mitchell basket… I throw my hands up. The commissioner didn’t care, and I wasn’t in those clubhouses.

1:13
E5: Why wouldn’t WAS give Treinen another chance to start? He’s got the pitches and the GB%. Never got the chance to show he couldn’t at the big league level.

1:15
Eno Sarris: Man, you’re right that his change is interesting. Has the velo gap at least (10 mph), but less fade than his sinker, and only an inch more drop. I bet that pitch does worse if he throws it more. Plus it’s all about that sinker.

1:15
El Duderino: What to do with Matt Holliday this year? In YS he could pop 30 HR and get close to 100RBI. Under the radar pick?

1:15
Eno Sarris: Yeah his exit velo and launch angles were really good last year.

1:15
Robbie: What are we realistically expecting for Dickerson?
Steam has him 252/304/442 with a 190 ISO and 15 HR over 408 PA

1:15
Eno Sarris: I just feel like he outperforms that at all the PA is off.

1:16
mtsw: Best “hey they weirdly might actually be kinda good” potential: Phillies, Angels or Marlins?

1:16
Eno Sarris: Phillies for me. If the three top starters are healthy…

1:16
Randy Savage: brb taking a dump

1:16
Eno Sarris: ok waiting

1:16
Tim: How many ABs does Ketel Marte get in Arizona this year?

1:17
Eno Sarris: Basically starting 2B, at least for my team, with Drury taking ABs from Tomas.

1:17
Robbie: A bit new around here, what was supposed to be said for the Lightning round thing? just like an ‘I GOT YOU ENO’ or what?
*note I’m oblivious to most pop culture references.

1:17
Eno Sarris: I used to say stuff about here we go and then people would do lightning and thunder and noises and then we’d go.

1:17
E5: Eno’s got to go ‘cuse he got him a drop top and if he hits the switch he can make the ass drop. He had to stop at a red light lookin’ in his mirror not a jacker in sight and everything is alright.

1:18
DTH: visited Rare Barrel on your recommendation and quite enjoyed it, anything else in the Bay Area you particularly like? I frequent Drakes in San Leandro but not familiar with much else around here

1:18
Eno Sarris: Cellarmaker/City Beer Store is a great combo. Fieldwork right by Rare Barrel is a favorite of mine, try their hazy IPAs. Almanac now has a taproom.

1:18
Kyle: Javier Baez: Keep or trade for pitching if you’re the Cubs?

1:18
Eno Sarris: keep.

1:19
SDinSEA: Think a SABR alchemist is sitting out there right now that’ll figure out the magic formula for finding the next Calhoun, JD Martinez, Donaldson?

1:19
Eno Sarris: I think teams have minor league PITCHf/x, I wonder how many / if they have minor league exit velo.

1:19
Ty Blah: Speaking of Blach, does he have it in him to get to 7 K/9 or is he more Eflin with less of a chance of imploding?

1:20
Eno Sarris: Probably just 6 K/9 but nice park, and if you’re careful with him… Also I get some of a Glavine vibe with good command and ability to stretch the outside corner.

1:20
El Duderino: You ever come to Canada? We have amazing beer

1:20
Eno Sarris: Really liked Bench by Ball’s Falls and the hoppy sours at Bellwoods.

1:20
?: I gotta work on my name

1:21
CamdenWarehouse: JP, if you have empty growlers you get them refilled! jeez…

1:21
Matt: I’ve read all sorts of methodologies on building player ranking algorithms – and frankensteined them into my own. But nothing I’ve ever read really addresses how to meld your offense rankings into your pitching ranking for an overall ranking. I’ve tried normalising value in offense/pitching, then merging that but didn’t like results. I tried splitting up dollars allocated by hitting/pitching (by starting lineup and 5/9 of bench goes to pitching) and that got close, but I still think undervalues pitching. Thoughts?

1:22
Eno Sarris: I don’t think it matters that much. Especially if you can throw tiers on your rankings, after the first two rounds, you’ll be dealing with your actual team and availability in tiers anyway. So then your question will be, should I get the last third baseman in this tier, or the last SP2, and that’s how the tiers help you line things up.

1:22
Andrew: Is LUcas Duda by definition a Lude?

1:22
Eno Sarris: one-man

1:22
E5: This would be a great way to settle any ties that happen in the ASG

1:22
John: Any plans for a pitch talks or beer event in LA?

1:23
Eno Sarris: We’ll certainly have one. Might be a beer dinner — foodie thing with curated beer list. I’ll be there.

1:23
Alan: Pick two keepers: Michael Fulmer (25th round), Arrieta (3rd round), Carrasco (4th round).

1:23
Eno Sarris: Fulmer Carrasco

1:23
E5: I bet you Miggy still sees this in his dreams.

1:24
Rand: What type of natural disaster do you find to be the scariest

1:24
Eno Sarris: Spent a lot of time growing up in Jamaica, so Hurricanes.

1:24
Chris: Getting young player in a trade, I can choose one, keep forever, OPB league > Domingo Santana or Dan Vogelbach.

1:24
Eno Sarris: Domingo.

1:24
Snowflake: Much excite

1:24
Snowflake: Super fun

1:24
Snowflake: Wow

1:24
Randy Savage: There’s multiple Pho Kings in Atlanta

1:24
Eno Sarris: DANGIT

1:24
Barness: Andrew Triggs; what’s that dude all about?

1:26
Eno Sarris: Ziegler but chance he can start and chance he has three legit pitches. Needs more work on the change, but sinker/cutter/slider might work here because his angle makes them very different pitches.

1:26
Bud: Jorge Posada trending in the search bar again! This time legitimate.

1:26
Kevin: What do you expect from Bauer this season?

1:26
Eno Sarris: A little better command.

1:26
Rough Odor: Ever had a beer using Waimea hops from New Zealand? I have a pound I’d like to use, but I’m struggling to find any commercial examples.

1:26
Eno Sarris: Had an Almanac hoppy sour with Waimea that was great but I’m not sure that helps you.

1:27
Rand: Were you named after Brian Eno?

1:27
Eno Sarris: yes

1:27
Steve: Yesterday Dave likened Moncada’s k issue to Buxton’s where people will bail too early. Do you agree or is he overhyped?

1:27
Eno Sarris: Feels like Buxton’s issues were more established while Moncada has been up and down in that regard.

1:28
Eno Sarris: I’m personally closer to out than in on Buxton but i’d give Moncada some leash.

1:28
Jim: I feel like the De Leon hype pendulum has swung too far downward. He’s run K rates over 32% every season in full season ball

1:28
Eno Sarris: Great change, so it’s not just command.

1:28
Johnny Bravo: Which Justin do I Keep? Turner in the 14th or Verlander in the 10th?

1:29
Eno Sarris: Verlander.

1:29
joedcamp: If Vargas and Park are around 450 ADP, if you draft both do you get 30 HR out of one?

1:29
Eno Sarris: It’s one of them for sure. If they looking at exit velo and launch angle, it’s probably Vargas. He was a good barreler.

1:30
A. Reitz: Homer Bailey was 26 in 2012. Old dude?

1:31
Eno Sarris: He got hurt at end of 2014, when he was 28, averaging 94 with a splitter, more just ‘headed there probably.’

1:32
Kakie Bryan: Hi Eno still work every day 4 dream. Strong milk!

1:32
Marty: Speaing of throwbacks, where’s the guy who used to send photos of a rotten pumpkin?

1:32
Mutomobo: Are there any fantasy nuggets in the back-end of the Yankees rotation?

1:32
Eno Sarris: Green is actually interesting. Way higher K rates than the last Green(e) and does have a splitter, should throw it more.

1:32
HOF is HOF: HOF Rules “5. Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player’s record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played.” Seems like this is being ignored with voting on many players. Agree?

1:33
Eno Sarris: It was ignored for so long, I don’t see why we start using it more now.

1:33
Yellow Tooth Franklin: I’m ready for the whitening round

1:33
Saul: Do you think Gausman will increase his K rate? Is he throwing a cutter now?

1:34
Eno Sarris: The curve could be the thing that makes it all hum, it’s a hard one at 80+, and it doesn’t give up homers, so it might work without the cutter.

1:34
Marty: My buddy makes lamps out of old growlers and sells them on etsy https://www.etsy.com/listing/255557422/drop-in-brewing-company-beer-growler

1:34
Kris: Re. minor league Pitch F/x/exit velo. Could a stadium install it and use it to scout opposing players without sharing the data? Or would the data have to be available to every team in the league

1:35
Eno Sarris: I think they can do that. Maybe they have to own the stadium… dunno. I do know that Lindbergh and Miller put a PITCHfx in their stadium and didn’t share the data.

1:35
Adam: when’s the european beer tour? we have some decent craft beers in barcelona you could use to justify a trip… shallow keepers only 3. keeping trout in 7th, leaning springer 11th and villar 19th round. any arguments for lindor in 5th or moncada in 19th?

1:36
Eno Sarris: Man I love Barcelona. You got it right, though Lindor floor way higher than Villar, so that’s the only one that is really tough for me.

1:36
RotoLando: Are there any Pho Rizzles?

1:36
Snowflake:

1:37
Snowflake: How short is too short?

1:37
Eno Sarris: That might be too short.

1:37
E5: I’m looking for a bounce back from Bailey and break out from Hutchinson. Chances for 1 or the other? Both?

1:39
Eno Sarris: If you talking league average for the first, 50/50, if you talking back to when Homer was really good, I’ll give you 20/80. Hutch? If he’d been any good for the Pirates Triple-A team I might have more hope for him.

1:39
Matt: My mom named me after that thing you wipe your feet on when you walk in the house.

1:39
Sonny: Tried 3 bought 2. Regret coming back to office without a buzz

1:39
Eno Sarris: shoulda done n-2.

1:39
El Duderino: I was looking at 2007 Tim Lincecum highlights and now I am sad…

1:40
Carl: More likely in 2017: Carlos Martinez is a top 10 SP or he is outside the top 60?

1:40
Eno Sarris: The first if he’s healthy.

1:40
Country Hard Ball: Brock Stewart – legit chance at #5 call-up during the season or breaks camp in the pen?

1:40
Eno Sarris: SP depth in minors, but with the veterans and question marks ahead of him, legit chance of coming up.

1:41
E5: Are we all done with the Ruby de la Rosa love?

1:42
Eno Sarris: But the hard slider was good! Arm trouble again, probably headed to the pen, we can chill.

1:42
Kakie Bryan: where u drinky beer in NYC this month again?? not allow 2 beerly but milky shot ok! ok? ok!

1:42
Eno Sarris: Next Thursday at Three’s Brewing!

1:42
Wardo: re: Pitch f/x – Ben and Sam/Sonoma was indy ball, not mL, so might be different rules

1:42
Eno Sarris: Yes.

1:43
tommy lasagna, sr.: my wife told me she wouldn’t marry another man if we split up. i was touched, until she told me its cuz of all the farts. and by god if i wasn’t farting when she explained it.

1:43
Gucci: Do you think Zack Greinke regrets the trade? Got more money but basically gave up hope of getting a ring. Plus…. The desert. People shouldn’t live there.

1:43
Eno Sarris: He probably won’t be there all that long.

1:43
Eno Sarris: Okay I gotta get to work. thanks for hanging out!
