You can target one player in a trade — are you going after Paul Goldschmidt (8th round keeper) or Anthony Rizzo (20th round)?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Give me Rizzo and the 12 rounds!

12:02
Comment From Miketron
How intrigued are you with Travis Snider now that he is in Baltimore?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Crazy thing: Dude is 26. Feels like he should be 30. Even my more conservative power peak thing found a peak around 26 for power, so maybe we shouldn’t regress him ISO as much as Steamer has (from .174 to .158). New Park.. lefty… This is what I’ll give him: 90% of last year, over 500 PA. That’s his upside. So .260/.330/.420, 18 homers, two stolen bases.?

12:04
Comment From Jays Fan II
Jays seem to be in on every single reliever available right now. If you were Alex Anthopoulos, which direction would you go in?

12:06
Eno Sarris: I think Sanchez can close, so I might go with quantity over quality. Given prices, I might go with Joba Chamberlain and Alexi Ogando and Matt Lindstrom? Two of the three? Why pay Soriano or K-Rod closer prices?

12:07
Comment From J
Your best guess as to where Shields lands and for how much?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Let’s just be silly and say the Padres continue their push.

12:08
Eno Sarris: How much? Crowd said five, $90… hesitant to add more on there.

12:08
Comment From brian strumke
Saw you mention recently on Twitter about playing in a Scoresheet league. Playing in Scoresheet league myself for the 1st time this season. Any advice on roster construction/breakdown of starters/relievers/hitters for the 35 man roster. And awesome to see a Baltimore beer as rookie of the year. (http://www.beergraphs.com/b…)

12:11
Eno Sarris: I kinda hate it. The user interface is pretty bad and for $70 a year… the defensive stats and how important they are feel like a black box, there’s no analysis out there and very little demand for it… combing through player lists is painful… But it is nice to get the box scores once a week and play a ‘real’ game. I think you need seven to eight starters, seven or so bench bats, four or five prospects (if you can keep prospects) and the rest are relievers, half and half by handedness.

Comment From Joe
In a points league, would you rather have Gregory Polanco for $5 or Salvador Perez for $8 in a one catcher league?

12:12
Eno Sarris: I have a crush on Gregory Polanco, don’t see much more upside in Sal Perez, and am worried he’ll get hurt after playing so much. I’m taking the over on Polanco’s batting average, making him a five-cat guy…

12:13
Comment From Miketron
Do you think Trevor Bauer could outperform the more hyped Carlos Carrasco kind of like how Kluber did Salazar last year?

12:14
Eno Sarris: What worries me is that his change is no good. I think he could do the Richards, but knowing his past, I think he’ll keep throwing that change. Then again, I kinda love Kyle Boddy and he’s working with Bauer, so yeah. Once you factor in price, I might like Salazar and Bauer better than Carrasco this year.

Comment From Ben
Are you high on Miguel Sano this year? He had some Kris Bryant-esque hype a couple of years ago before he lost last year to injury. Sounds like he could be up this year…instant impact?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Like him more than Gallo (similar power to me, better contact rates), but maybe not as much as Bryant. His value has dropped, though, so now is the time to get him. He’ll find a way into that lineup by the end of the year.

12:16
Comment From ar
i can only keep these guys for this season. pick one of: Jose Fernandez (19th rd), Salazar (19th rd), Hamels (8th), Torii (14th), Melancon (27th)

12:17
Eno Sarris: It’s Hamels or Salazar since you can’t benefit from Jose Fernandez in 2016. Kinda like taking a shot on Salazar in the 19th actually. Since Hamels is only a couple rounds of value, his upside is tantalizing. Melancon could push his way into the convo. If you want floor value, Melancon. Salazr is the lotto ticket.

12:17
Comment From Miggy Smalls
What do you expect from Miguel Cabrera this year? Better or worse numbers than last season?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Slightly better. I’m happy the injuries were to his lower half. Well, not happy, that’s mean. But Zimmerman found that leg injuries were less worrisome, so let’s hope for a mini bounce due to healthy legs.

12:19
Comment From John
also, jay jaffe had some not nice things to say about the mets in his recent SI article,,, Does it make you as happy as it makes me when the media finally starts calling out the ass-clown wilpons?

12:20

Comment From Brad Miller
I was such a popular sleeper last year, and we all know how that played out. Any chance I should be considered a great buy low candidate going into 2015?

12:20
Eno Sarris: He’s still the lefty-swinger, and he might play all over. i’m going to call him an only-league sleeper, but a bench pick in mixed leagues at best. And even then, I think I like Owings and Kang better.

12:20
Comment From jocephus
eno! do you think LED lights at safeco could change park factors there in a few years?

12:21
Eno Sarris: The biggest source of the park factor there is temperature, so no.

12:21
Comment From Mark
First I want to say thanks, your advice helped me win my first fantasy championship last season. Second, better keeper McCutchen in the first or Donaldson in the 6th. And would you trade McCutchen in the First for Rendon in the 9th. Thanks!

12:21
Eno Sarris: I’d take Rendon in the ninth, but if the trade doesn’t happen, Donaldson.

12:21

For roto snake in-draft strategy: z-score values in my spreadsheet, adding up my drafted team’s z-score sum in each category to help target a balance, and also comparing my drafted players stat sums to averages of past winning teams…good way to go?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Yes but don’t go too far and pick a one-tool speedster too early just because you need speed. The waiver wire and trades can rough some edges out.

12:22
Comment From Guest
Do any causes get you going, or are you pretty even-keel about stuff like that?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Economic mobility and income inequality, as well as international issues. As a German Jamaican American that has lived without furniture or heated water and has had a mother that used every trick in the book to get me a good education here, I want to make it easier for other people to move upwards.

12:24

Have you ever tried Red Racer IPA? If not, you should if you can find it (Canadian). What is your favorite IPA?

12:25
Comment From AL Pitching Coach
Thoughts on Jake Odorizzi in 2015?

12:25
Eno Sarris: I’m worried that his breakers will never be good. High fastball, splitter combo is great, but he’ll always give up homers if he doesn’t have a third weapon, and so far the slider and curve are not good.

Comment From Minty
Am I crazy to think that Stroman has a good shot of being in the Top 10-15 SP?

12:27
Eno Sarris: yes I like this bet. Buy as a #2 in a “Two Twos that Could Be Ones” strategy that I usually employ. In snakes, that means two starters between rounds five and nine.

Any of these good sleeper options this year: TJ House, Tom Koheler, AJ Griffin?

12:29
Eno Sarris: I love love House, but where’s he going to pitch. He needs to beat Salazar out, and I doubt that happens. He’ll be a great in-season pickup when Floyd gets hurt. Griffin is a decent DL stash if you have more than one DL slot. Tom? Eh.

12:30
Eno Sarris: I saw Herbie Hancock at the Blue Note, front row, great drinks, super expensive but I was young and childless, and Herbie made love with his eyes to his young female drummer and I didn’t care because he was playing this song

ENO. A story for you. I live in Minneapolis, where they don’t sel beer on Sunday. This means Minnesotans must go to Wisconsin to get beer, which in turn creates a market for an awesome liquor store in Hudson, Casanova’s, that does nice things like stock bombers of Toppling Goliath and fill growlers with all sorts of delicious beers on tap in their attached restaurant. So what you do is, you get some pseudosue, have your wife taste it’s gentle citra deliciousness, and you convince her that a weekend trip to quaint decorah will be the bee’s knees. Which is a long way of saying that I WILL BE DRINKING PSEUDUESUE STRAIGHT FROM THE TEAT THIS WEEKEND.

Why don’t you write an article that doesn’t use projections for once?

12:32

Jays seem interested in Belisario. Would Axford also be good get for a club looking for pen arms?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Belisario has one great pitch, one ugly mug, and control problems. I’d sign him for a couple mill. But I’d want a little more. Ax might have to get an MiLB contract.

12:33

Calhoun 17 or Choo for 26 dollars in a 20 team keeper league with 25 man rosters. 260 cap and you play 3 OF and 1 Util. The auction has a real dearth of talent.

12:34
Eno Sarris: I want Calhoun. really similar value, and you get some money back. Dearth of talent might mean that you need more money to get anything in the draft. (There’s also a non-zero chance that calhoun outperforms Choo, cost aside)

o/u 6.5 starting pitchers for Washington in 2015? o/u 12 starts for Roark?

Do you think Melky can put up similar numbers to Werth this year: 285/15/8?

12:36
Eno Sarris: What a weird idea given these two skill sets! Maybe the under on the power though.

12:37
Comment From pair-a-dice
Tell me Keuchel can do the same next yr.

12:37
Eno Sarris: Yeah but I don’t think there’s a ton of K/9 growth there, so he’s not a 1 or 2.

12:37
Comment From Snarfle
On the grumblometer–the meter for how much I grumble when I make a pick–I fully expect SS to induce a 7+, and I wouldn’t be surprised if 2B got at least a 4, but am I crazy for thinking I’ll find a close to grumble free 3B? There’s a decent top-tier, then some fun stuff with Arenado and Frazier. And now that we’re used to Longoria and Wright not being amazing, I can see how far they drop and not grumble if they fall to me. 3B grumble free?

12:38
Eno Sarris: I think third is super deep. I got Wright like in the 12th or something ridiculous. Sure, I’ll do that.

12:38
Comment From ar
i’m in a weekly 2-catcher league. it just seems like the dumbest thing in the world to draft catchers before the end.. because you can’t ever get more than 5 starts from them each week or whatever. (but since we start two catchers their replacement value is super high, and so all the auction values are really high.) thoughts?

12:39
Eno Sarris: You want to pick among the middle regular catchers, IMO, so you get a guy who actually plays as much as the rest. There’s a ton of .260/18 there in the middle, pay the least for a couple of those.

12:39
Comment From Guest
When will a top-tier potential baseball draftee who became famous for, among other things, having played through the difficult loss of a girlfriend, turn out to have been hoaxed as to the existence of that girlfriend?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Baseball draftees don’t get the same attention once the draft is over.

12:39
Comment From Ryan
How do you decide on a hit/pitch split for valuing players? Should you calculate the “right” one or base it on league history? I guess what I’m saying is my league crazily overvalues pitchers and a 60/40 split seems insane to me.

12:41
Eno Sarris: Zach Sanders makes compelling arguments that you should value at the split that your lineups say (if you have 9 P and 13 O, then 60/40) and then allocate your resources post-draft the way you’d like to. Then again, that means you won’t buy an ace. (But I don’t buy aces).

12:41
Comment From Snarfle
Yeah, speaking of the Mets ownership, do you think Sandy isn’t spending more because he doesn’t want to overpay, or because the Wilpons are saying he can have 80…maybe 82 million.

12:41
Eno Sarris: I think it’s the owners.

12:42
Eno Sarris: She’s into it when I get it right — she likes Enjoy By too — but thinks I drink a lot of weird beers and doesn’t want me to spend too much money on it. Then again, she likes the upside of BeerGraphs and we’re still building towards opening a store, so…. she’s mildly supportive.

In pro basketball, there’s a consensus that awful free throw shooters could improve dramatically if they shot free throws underhand (granny-style) but that they don’t do this because it looks goofy and embarrassing. Is there a baseball equivalent of this?

Have a proposed trade to me.. Two of Matt Moore, Kohl Stewart, Lucas Giolito and/or Jonathan Gray for Michael Brantley and Arod.. Which two should I give up or does it matter? should I cut Arod immediately?

12:45

Eno – (fantasy question) would you trade a current big league growth asset like Bauer or Gausman for Moncada? I know the prospect bust rate is high but it seems to me that he’s worth that kind of gamble

The rest of his minor league track record is much more in line with that he’s done in the majors than that year…

How many “projection” buys do you do during the course of an auction? Towards the end once you are down to deep bench/bullpen guys?

12:55
Eno Sarris: I use my bench for upside at my weakest spots. I don’t spend too much time trying to get Solarte types there for more PAs unless it’s a really deep league. In most leagues, I want youth on my bench. You’ll drop them if they don’t get the gig, and move on with your life.

You said last week you love Smyly this year. How much love are we talking here?

Ever had Devil’s Backbone 8-point IPA? Relatively new brewery from my old hometown, good stuff

1:11
Eno Sarris: I had their wood aged Kilt Flasher and it was pretty amazing. So sweet and thick for a scotch ale.

1:11
Comment From SF Dave
No beer until opening day as PE teachers aren’t allowed to be fat (again, IMO) so what do I go out and buy for my opening day first beer of the new year? I’m in the city so I can get what you can get (in the stores). It’s got to be something to match the moment.

1:12
Eno Sarris: Might be able to get some Nelson in bottles by then. Maybe try that new Sierra Nevada year-round fresh hop with the oil? The one Lagunitas tried to sue? Because it’ll be fresh and it’ll be a fresh season.

1:12
Comment From someone
what do you think of Danny Santana this season?

1:13
Eno Sarris: tons of regression will hide the fact that the Twins don’t have a great other option and will probably ride even .260/.290/.380 with speed, so he’s actually a decent deep leaguer.

1:14
Comment From J
Lawrie’s injuries have nothing to do with grass though lol

1:15
Eno Sarris: It’s fair not to agree with his comments, but I see 75 games lost to leg injuries since 2012. The obliques have been worse, yes. But one of these years he’ll be healthy. And his contact rates, power, speed — all demonstrated to be above-average.

1:15
Comment From Angelos Peter
You were right: “dunkel” wheat beer is amazing. How have I only ever had the trube before? Crazy good. Franziskaner, Schaefferhoffer…all of them.

You know what else is exciting? Large people bunting, then hustling to first. They’re bad at it now, but eventually they’ll be okay. DON’T BE FOOLED BY HOW FAR THEY GO! BUNTS ARE MORE EXCITING THAN YOUR AVERAGE BATTED BALL!

1:16

MLB enforcing a pitching clock leads to more rushed pitches, which leads to more balls, which leads to more pitches, which leads to…either more relievers or more injuries. Nutty theory?

1:18
Eno Sarris: This is … not nutty. There are always unintended consequences. That’s why I’m mostly not into rule changes.

1:18
Eno Sarris: HERE’S A HOT TAKE RULE CHANGE

1:18
Eno Sarris: Don’t test minor leaguers for drugs of abuse.

1:18
Comment From mtsw
Modified, more realistic version of Dave Cameron’s suggested rule change: after the 4th pitcher per game, any pitcher you bring in gets zero warm-up pitches (and has to ride a Segway out) so the game doesn’t stop.
