Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 3/13/14

12:05
Eno Sarris: Okay gonna give me five minutes to catch my breath.

12:05
Eno Sarris: Ran up from the clubhouse.

12:11
TheKillersVEVO:

12:11
Eno Sarris: video because I was running around

12:11
Eno Sarris: Ok I’m here!

12:11
Comment From Fish
we’re punctual here

12:11
Eno Sarris: most of the time!

12:12
Eno Sarris: clubhouse closed at 9 PT so there I was, watching Clayton Kershaw play ping pong when I should have been chatting. (predictably he’s good)

12:12
Comment From Marty
Late round flier Porcello or Y Ventura?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Porcello higher floor, Ventura higher ceiling, so the particulars of your league matter. Ten-team… go for ceiling.

12:13
Comment From Lenard
I was beginning to form a search party

12:13
Eno Sarris: Phew I made it.

12:13
Comment From Fish
but speaking of running. What do you have for Reyes this year in terms of illicitly taken bases?

12:13
Eno Sarris: 35 or so? Mostly healthy year?

12:13
Comment From Kris
Been looking forward to that piece since you mentioned it on the CBBQ pod. Guess you just have to take the Votto’s with the Hosmer’s, huh?

12:13
Eno Sarris: http://www.hardballtimes.com/learning-the-language-of-the-clubhouse/ It was a good year and I’m ready for another!

12:14
Comment From James Shields
Hey Eno! I heard you mention on The Sleeper and Bust podcast that you have a few red flags where I’m concerned, but you never said what they were. Those thinking of drafting me as their ace need to know your reasons!!!

12:15
Eno Sarris: Shields keeps showing up on Jeff Zimmerman’s Josh Kalk research, the injury zone — his release points go in and out and his velocity and zone rates go down at times. But he always rallies. Maybe it won’t matter, but there are a ton of innings and his strikeout and GB rates are generally in decline.

12:15
Comment From Tom
I was kinda worried about this happening today. I was so prepared too, drinking my first double jack (awesome so far)!! So I’m in Denver right now, anyone know where I can find Russian River here?

12:15
Eno Sarris: Be Prepared!!

12:15
Comment From Mojo
Which is >, your 2014 love for B Miller or 2013 love for J Rutledge? Does this year’s version have a happier ending?

12:15
Eno Sarris: Bigger for Miller. Because he doesn’t have massive real-life flaws like Rutledge. He’s a good defender with patience and Nick Franklin is no shortstop.

12:15
Comment From Dr. Met
Be honest… you got lost in the Beard’s beard.

12:16
Eno Sarris: He was a tour de force today.

12:16
Comment From Pale Hose
Hey Eno. I really enjoyed the piece on clubhouse language. Do you have any follow-up as to how guys reacted to seeing you a second time?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Very few players have acknowledged me as a person. R.A. Dickey. Sean Doolittle. Dan Straily. Brandon Crawford. That might be the end of the list.

12:16
Comment From Maxamuz
One, two buckle my shoe.

12:17
Comment From Bryan R
Loved your piece at THT today, Mr. Sarris. What is the most insightful comment you have heard from a non-Votto player, in your experiences? I distinctly remember that Vogelsong interview being surprisingly cogent.

12:18
Eno Sarris: Vogey was good about beating FIP (walks over homers) and Burnett was great about having two knuckle curves, there have been a lot great moments. Donaldson saying he hit more grounder for more power because his bat stayed level through the zone longer. Even Butler saying that he looked for low pitches because that’s where pitchers threw them… Players are smart about baseball, I just had to learn their language better.

12:18
Comment From Guest
Great job on THT today. Thanks for your honesty- love reading pieces like that. Disappointing to read about those players, though. Even if you don’t like saber/questions you think are stupid, it’s not ok to be disrespectful to other people just doing their job.

12:18
Eno Sarris: To be fair, they get a lot of crap. So it probably feels natural to them to give it back.

12:18
Comment From juan pierres mustache
all that pickup bball conditioning is paying off! you said 10 minutes and made it in 5

12:18
Eno Sarris: Dude I ran so hard people were laughing at me.

12:18
Comment From jakeladder
If you just ran, you should probably have a beer to, uh, rehydrate. Yeah.

12:19
Eno Sarris: I saw some piece about that being not ridiculous and I thought it was ridiculous.

12:19
Comment From Maxamuz

That's right son.

12:19
Comment From Ringtone Composer
What’s a legitimate ceiling for Grady Sizemore (OBP/SLG) this year?

12:19
Comment From killermike
The Killers are like that band that went mainstream and then people sort of blew them off after their first album for some reason. But they’re a neat source of a sort of Americana sound.

12:19
Comment From Marty
Texiera is going around pick 200 in mocks…has his ceiling gotten that low?

12:20
Eno Sarris: I think he might be a value there actually. As long as you have a backup plan.

12:20
Comment From JT
Bruce and Bogaerts and picks OR MIKE TROUT EATER OF PLANETS in a keep forever dynasty? Depth isn’t an issue.

12:20
Eno Sarris: Trout.

12:20
Eno Sarris: He eats planets after all.

12:20
Eno Sarris: Terrible interview though.

12:20
Comment From Chooiug?
So was I stupid to keep Choo over Puig in my keeper league?

12:20
Eno Sarris: OBP maybe no, but I’d have kept Puig.

12:20
Comment From hawk harrelsons ipad
Can you please explain how we can use excel + steamer to create player values/point projections?

12:22
Eno Sarris: That is so tough. I don’t know how to do points. I guess I would just take their Steamer projected values, spit out some points, and then identify replacement level (probably points per PA or IP) and then value guys above that RL. Read Zach Sanders FVarz for more, I know he’s getting crap, but the series (plus Jeff Zimmerman recently using Standard Gain Points method) give you an idea of how.

12:22
Comment From Lenard
How am I supposed to waste an hour and a half of my Thursday workday without you, Eno?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Eno: Professional Waster of Time.

12:22
Comment From Stanatee the Manatee
Participating in a keeper league draft for the first time ever this weekend. Any tips besides keeping age in mind when deciding between players?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Don’t forget old people. They’ll be a great value in the middle of the draft.

12:23
Comment From Lenard
Thoughts on Brian Dozier this year? Think he’ll end up hitting leadoff for the Twins?

12:24
Eno Sarris: I don’t think he needs to in order to be a great pick this year. Projections on my end say something like .245/15/15 with okay r/RBI, at worst that’s a good MI that’s available late in the draft. If he swings more to take advantage of low swSTR rate (totally possible given his comments to the media this spring), then he’s a sleeper for a better BA and much more value.

12:24
Comment From Schiraldi
If you could have Tulo + Marte or Segura + Stanton in a redraft league, which would you take? Projections are astonishingly similar for each pair.

12:24
Eno Sarris: I think I’d take Tulo and Marte actually. When they are actually playing, they’ll be a better pair.

12:24
Comment From Stouter than Stout
I’m weighing some last minute keeper options in my league and have a pair of sluggers I’m debating between. In a vacuum, would you keep Pedro Alvarez or Jedd Gyorko?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Gyorko hasn’t proven that he has a fatal flaw yet. Alvarez is who he is. I think I’d take Gyorko.

12:25
Comment From john
Ian Kennedy – Yay or Nay?

12:25
Eno Sarris: yay (late)

12:25
Comment From AL Pitching Coach
The best three SPs you should be targeting to grab for $1-$2 at your AL-only auction are..?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Gausman, Skaggs, Carrasco. I know the last one will be a dollar at least. He has three plus pitches by whiff rates, and his sinker has a 60% GB.

12:25
Comment From Teddy
Dear eno, so i have teh 2nd pick and my brother has the 3rd pick, and he really wants miguel Cabrera (if he is there for me) and is willing to package in another round pick to get him. What round would be a fair (10 team serpentine draft mixed no keepers) trade to give up the additional value of Miggy for the third pick and another round? Your answer determines if we will actually do this trade lol and thanks for the chat.

12:27
Eno Sarris: So hard. It would have to be great. Because Miggy to Goldschmidt is seven bucks. You’d have to turn a 50th pick into an 15th pick to get $7 back. But because of the relative star value, I’d ask for his second round pick and you give him a sixth back.

12:27
Comment From Dr. Met
Also all those transition 3 pts you take in pickup ball … thought it’d give you more stamina (unless you play halfcourt).

12:28
Eno Sarris: I play full and am usually heaving by the end.

12:28
Comment From Gray
How many starts do you think Ross Detwiler, Tanner Roark, and Taylor Jordan get this year, respectively?

12:28
Eno Sarris: From my research the other day, all three will get starts. I say Ross wins it though and gets 20+. Roark gets 10+, Jordan gets a handful.

12:28
Comment From Chris
I punted on drafting a closer in a shallow 5×5, can you rank cook, strop and hawkins and any other guys i should look at?

12:29
Eno Sarris: (Allen), Hawkins, Cook, Bastardo, Clippard, Strop.

12:29
Comment From Marty
Eno, thank you for this Sullivan-esque entrance. Do you think Heyward has a breakout year? His ADP seems at least 2 rounds too low.

12:29
Eno Sarris: Just needs to be healthy. I like him as a value this year, yes.

12:29
Comment From ar
joining a extant keeper league this year, for my first keeper. They do a snake draft. So, how do i figure out positional replacement value after i know the keepers? everyone will have different ones, right? since instead of 5 OF getting drafted per team, some are drafting three and some are drafting 4?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Since it’s a snake draft, all you need to do is rank the players at each position, our ranks can help, we have a spreadsheet too so you can erase/manipulate at will, and then you’ll probably be able to see pretty quickly what’s best available in the draft.

12:30
Comment From Marty
We were scared, not only were you uncharacteristically late, the date says February!

12:31
Eno Sarris: Woof, fixed.

12:31
Comment From John
Thoughts on Yordano Ventura?

12:31
Eno Sarris: All gas, the curve looks a little predictable and soft, and I didn’t see many change-ups. If the change is good, he has 100+ mph type velocity. He will be in the rotation because of his upside, and he’s a great late pick in all leagues because if he figures it all out…

12:32
Comment From STiVo
I love good, flavorful beers normally. But when i go to a midsummer baseball game in the mid-Atlantic, all I can drink is Miller Lite and its ilk. Does this make me uncool?

12:32
Eno Sarris: No. It’s hot.

12:32
Comment From Northsider
Mike Olt had 7 K’s in 17 ABs before going 3-3 for 2 Homers last night. It looks like his vision is improving. Do you see the high K% as part of the recovery process or part of the player’s downside?

12:32
Eno Sarris: totally part of his downside. Will be a three true outcome player IMO.

12:32
Comment From The Oriole Bird
Are you expecting a big bounceback for Dickey in 2014?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Minor. Health was issue. Look at his second half numbers for his upside.

12:34
Comment From Guest
Is Daniel Webb going to make the White Sox out of ST?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Yes. And he’ll be in the mix for setup.

12:34
Comment From Maxamuz

Can you name this man or the team he Rooted for?

12:34
Comment From El Grand Buritto
Eno: predictions for Amador….MLB or MInors?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Minors but I think he’ll be in the lineup soon. The plan at first is not good enough right now.

12:35
Eno Sarris: I think Amador will come up before Singleton and get 150 PA chance.

12:35
Comment From bartsmithsonian
Does MLB have any emergency plans in store incase this brutal, never-ending winter really messes with multiple teams and multiple games?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Nah. Tons of double headers?

12:35
Comment From Andy5
This question might be too big to answer here, but I’ll ask it anyways. How do the expert leagues conduct their auctions? Is it one player at a time? Are players called up and then bid on in small groups of, say, 10 players? My league needs to reform how we do things and I’m looking for some info/ammo to throw at them. Thanks!

12:36
Eno Sarris: One at a time, and the best ones (LABR and TOUT) have auctioneers and do it in person, which is super fun.

12:36
Comment From john
Given the Mets need AND what Diaz ended up signing for, should they have been more involved?

12:36
Eno Sarris: I guess, but I’m not impressed with Diaz’ bat at all.

12:36
Comment From Sadwick
No search parties here, I did set some traps with craft beers though. So far I only caught a hipster (who mentioned he was only caught ironically), a thirsty hobo, and a particularly friendly dog. I’ll take the others down.

12:36
Comment From Kev
First year playing in a 20 team league and boy is the waiver wire terrifying to look at.

12:36
Comment From Marty
Just a friendly reminder: Goodyear Ballpark is where the Indians and Reds play, and Goodyear is a tire store.

12:37
Eno Sarris: Well done people.

12:37
Comment From jocephus
if you had to “ballpark it” (pun!)…how many players are actually receptive to the advanced metrics?

12:37
Eno Sarris: 5%? Not many. Jason Castro is super smart and on top of new stuff and his answer was OPS. Which is cool. They don’t pay them to think about ground ball rates, a baseball player recently said.

12:37
Comment From Guest
Holy Crap its hard getting 12 people together to start an ottoneu league

12:37
Eno Sarris: Someone help him out.

12:38
Comment From Michael
Visiting California, and driving from LA to San Diego next month. I have time for 3 brewery visits, what are your recommendations?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Pizza Port in Carlsbad, Stone World Bistro, and Ballast Point. But! If you have time to go out to Alpine, that’s the one you won’t ever find in a store, and it’s great. It’s just 45 inland from SD. Might take it over Stone, who’s beers you will see.

12:39
Comment From Jose Altuve
In terms of fantasy production, do I regress, improve or stay around the same in 2014?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Sames.

12:39
Comment From Co-founder of the USSMariner.com
better ping pong player, clayton kershaw, Rafeael Nadal, Forest gump

12:39
Eno Sarris: Kershaw. Well, Gump I guess.

12:40
Comment From Arving Gonzalez
Eno, who do you think will have the most BABIP regresion?

12:40
Eno Sarris: Mike Napoli and his .367.

12:40
Comment From Bo
Was Ervin the Braves’ best option? Was it a necessity?

12:40
Eno Sarris: Yes and probably. He didn’t cost them an actual player.

The guy in Denver is already drinking, meanwhile I’m having lunch at my desk. What am I doing wrong?!

12:41
Eno Sarris: you guys are in the best lude shape of your life

12:41
Comment From juan pierres mustache
List of players I wish everyone would just shut up about so that I can have them cheap: Salazar, W Ramos, B Miller, A Eaton, G Springer

12:41
Eno Sarris: Ramos went so high up in Tout mixed that I did a double take. I ended up with Jason Castro and Yasmani Grandal which seems fine in an OBP.

12:41
Comment From ?
What are you expecting from Josh Johnson this year. I assume he’s a guy who would have huge variance around his expected performance. Thoughts?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Take a flier, but I’d rather it was after the 15th, after close to 200 players off the board. I picked Ian Kennedy over him in tout.

12:42
Comment From JT
I’ve always wondered about sabermetricians and analysts conversing with professional jocks: seems a natural mismatch.

12:42
Eno Sarris: I actually might have the skillset to do it I think. I’m not as smart as the sabermetricians, but I’m a decent talker.

12:42
Comment From Johnny
In a vacuum, would you do a Max Scherzer for Xander Bogaerts and Addison Russell in a dynasty league?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Two shortstops! Yes.

12:43
Comment From Mitch
So how about that Cigar City Hunnapuh Day disaster? Glad I was unable to get tickets for it, seems like a waste

12:43
Eno Sarris: Yeah sounds like CG really screwed that up. Don’t sell cases at an event like that…

12:43
Comment From Grand Admiral Braun
Despite the issues with James Shields, does a Verlander, Greinke, Shields 1-2-3 in a 10-team 7X7 excite you?

12:44
Eno Sarris: It’s risky as hell but you should at least get two top 20 starters so it’s actually kind of awesome. I wish someone from the Cole/Gray/Salzar/Wacha/Miller young crew was in the mix at #4.

12:44
Comment From John
Recommend a baseball hat for me to buy, minors or majors.

12:44
Eno Sarris: The Reds spring training hat with the Redleg guy on it?

12:44
Comment From Fish
ridiculously small sample size update: Everth Cabrera with 5 whiffs on 16 swings. in pitchf/x parks, I guess.

12:44
Eno Sarris: And I was the one talking about his contact rate tanking this year, remember that!

12:44
Comment From Arving Gonzalez
Will Rafael Montero join the the Mets?

12:44
Eno Sarris: After July 1.

12:45
Comment From juan pierres mustache
you oughta get a haircut and then make a bunch of snide remarks about “that weirdo reporter with the long hair” next time you go into each clubhouse. you’ll make so many friends

12:45
Eno Sarris: I do have the option of looking completely different next time I’m in the Royals clubhouse lol.

12:45
Comment From gareth
Ervin is wise right to hold off on not wanting face the Yankees and red sox in hitters parks on a regular basis? Marlins mets anyone?

12:45
Eno Sarris: yes.

12:45
Comment From Carl
Dom Brown has had a horrific spring. I know spring stats are meaningless for the most part but how bad is he gonna regress this season?

12:45
Eno Sarris: I think he can .270, 20-25/5 this year again, mostly because I think he’ll get more PA and be a little bit worse in each PA.

12:46
Comment From Keith Cozart
How do you feel about Daniel Murphy this season? will the playing time be there all year?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Yes but eh. Won’t steal more than 12 IMO.

12:46
Comment From stonepie
has any team ever gone a season without a manager? just splitting up the managers duties between the other respective coaches?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Some cheap team should do it.

12:46
Comment From STiVo
I had Doug Fister very very high on my SP draft board going into my league’s early draft. I grabbed him, and now I’m nervous from the injury talk. What do you think?

12:46
Eno Sarris: FWIW, Fister showed up in the injury zone analysis too.

12:47
Comment From Joe Z
What positions is Javier Baez considered for outside of the likely, SS and 3B, and the slight possibility of 2nd base? If Mike Olt and Starlin produce, where would he play come a june promotion?

12:47
Eno Sarris: Second.

BUT COULD BOGAERTS NOT EAT PLANETS HIMSELF?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Actually I think he’ll be more modest. .280/25/10 peak maybe? More of a monster in an OBP league.

12:48
Comment From Justin
what are your thoughts on jonathan villar? I’m eyeing him in my dynasty league draft at 169 overall. might be a reach, but people are already reaching for speed. have no MI and no SB. I’m worried about PT after Correa comes up.

12:48
Eno Sarris: Astros won’t have a reason to call up Correa, maybe not at all this year. I think it’s a good spot to get him.

12:48
Comment From NapolisDeadHips
Eno, Tyson Ross or Yordano Ventura in a 5×5 roto league? 10 teams, deep keeper

12:49
Eno Sarris: Ten teams I’m going Ventura, more upside. Ross has two pitches.

12:49
Comment From Fish
don’t tell me that Mike Trout is all Jersey. That would be a travesty.

12:50
Eno Sarris: He’s from a town that’s an hour from the turnpike and not on the shore so he’s more small town than Jersey.

12:51

IS Junior Lake part of the Cubs future plans…i.e. when the young guns roll into CHI…

12:52
Eno Sarris: They’re going to give him a half season before they move him off. Bryant might end up in OF and if Lake can’t CF that’s all the time he gets.

12:52
Comment From Guest
You guys caught a lot of guff over the 5×5 rankings jeez its just opinions

12:53
Eno Sarris: Sanders has a method. Maybe he needs to tweak the second base replacement level, but it’s a simple thing. We provided a spreadsheet and it’s easy to manipulate.

12:53
Comment From Dr. Met
validate my obsession with Kazmir this year.. Oak pitchers park, good defense, sustained velocity and “adding a pitch” = top 50 SP value?

12:53
Eno Sarris: He did tell me he was adding a pitch but wouldn’t say what it was. Dunno. Good park. Probably gonna take a bit of time off.

Off the top of your head, can you think of a better Somali-Canadian singer/songwriter/poet than K’Naan? (Love the song “In the Beginning”)

Comment From MSW
RA Dickey just seems like a good dude to talk to. Any concerns on him after the down year? What should he go for in auction?

12:54
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll be healthier this year, hopefully. The problem is that when other pitchers go to the DL, he pitches through it and isn’t great. Might be a guy you can drop and pick back up, so I wouldn’t spend a ton.

12:55

Am I going to be better than Smyly this season? What are our ceilings?

12:55
Eno Sarris: I’ll take Straily. More innings.

12:56
Comment From Grand Admiral Braun
Speaking of Marte, he’s not so good in a slash-line league. Terrible vs RHPs too.

12:56
Eno Sarris: yes that’s worth mentioning. But he doesn’t hit pop ups so I think he’ll have a decent BABIP.

Should pitchers ever be keepers? I have seven keepers and want to keep Strasburg and Scherzer to stabilize my pitching line…Thanks my friend.

12:56
Comment From V
What do you think of Weaver this year? Bounce back candidate or he is who he is now?

Taveras or Khris Davis 5×5 roto?

12:57
Eno Sarris: Nonkeeper Davis by a mile.

12:57
Comment From Fish
so it would appear I’m transitioning to almost all platoon guys in my dynasty league outfield. anybody with fantastic splits flying under the radar?

12:58
Eno Sarris: Dunno how deep. Maybe DeJesus if deep, Ruggiano. Shallower? Viciedo is wrong side but valuable.

12:58
Comment From Vic
McCutchen or Kershaw? Would you rather have McCutchen, Stanton and Price with your 1st 3 picks or Kershaw, Stanton, and maybe Carlos Santana? 15 team straight draft with some players like Trout, Goldy etc already kept.

12:58
Eno Sarris: I know people are loving Kershaw mightily, but I can’t take him until around 8/9/10 and even then… old habits die hard.

12:59
Comment From RAGS
Dynasty points league with heavy emphasis on contact hitters. Would you give Gyorko for 9 and get back Lawrie for 11?

12:59
Eno Sarris: Yes.

I’m 100% ignorant when it comes to projections on excel. How would I go about getting it to “spit out some points.” I have the steamer projections up on excel, but I don’t know how to calculate the point values. 🙁

12:59
Eno Sarris: You have to look at your settings to see what each stat means in points.

Comment From Rays 7th Infielder
Loved your piece in THT. How do you weight positional availability vs top overall talent? AKA Jose Reyes in round 3 vs Adrian Beltre?

1:00
Eno Sarris: I give positional value more weight the deeper the league is. In a ten-teamer without MI, your worst SS is fine and you can just get the best stats at each position. In a 12-team AL-only, I went to 17 and 14 on Brad Miller and Brian Dozier to make sure I had starters there.

1:00
Comment From Ringtone Composer
So… How many starters DOES a team need?

Ryan Zimmerman: Target him because he’s at the bottom of the “good 3B tier” or avoid him because he’s Kyle Seager going 60 picks earlier? is there any upside left with Zim?

1:01
Eno Sarris: There might be one great season left in him. NO idea when it is, and yeah I’d wait as long as possible because I could still get Seager.

1:01
Comment From Kevin
Braun or Harper? Instinct says Braun but Harper’s trajectory is going the right way and I’m concerned about the season long scrutiny Braun will face.

1:01

Does Jacob Turner have any fantasy relevance? HOld him in a dynstay league… might be time to let him free.

1:02
Comment From Ryan
I can protect as many of the following as I want, 11 team AL only, Wilson Ramos-$10, Brad Miller- $10, Hosmer- $15, Villar-$10, Sonny Gray-$10, Alex Cobb-$10, Iwakuma-$10, who you taking Eno? Thanks!

1:02
Eno Sarris: All of em except Villar makes me pause. Maybe not him. $10 might get you someone like Dozier, who seems safer all year.

1:02
Comment From Tony Starks
Hi Big Eeeen, I need you here bro. Would you adjust your auction strategy in an 18-team mixed league? Like would you make sure you got a stud like Trout/Miggy/Kershaw and then fill the rest of your team with bargains? Or try to get 3-4 almost-elite players? Thanks

1:03
Eno Sarris: The deeper it is, the more balanced I want to be on offense. In AL LABR I got 33 Kipnis, 26 Hosmer, 17 miller, 11 Matt dominguez… $3 Grossman was my worst player on offense. I hate $1 guys on offense. $1 guys on pitching are okay.

1:03
Comment From Bill B.

1:03
Comment From Ron Weasley
In Dave’s chat yesterday a commenter said you would be a good wingman because you are “affable and non-threatening enough to keep the ladies entertained, but not so good looking as to skewer ones chances of ‘going for the gold’.” Thoughts?

1:04
Eno Sarris: You know what? I agree. Just would have to watch I don’t talk too much.

1:04
Comment From MikeS
Is Avisail worth keeping a bench spot over Rajai?

1:04
Eno Sarris: I dunno. Not sure they’ll just give Rajai the full time job with Dirks out. Garcia is mostly a wing and a scout-backed prayer, but the scouts really love him. I love upside, though, so I’d probably go Garcia. Right park for him.

1:05
Comment From Jacob
Matt Harvey. Those of us in keeper leagues need to wrestle with the Harvey issue even though he won’t play this year. Assuming he recovers as expected, where do you foresee him being ranked at the beginning of the 2015 season? (Lots of variables there, I know, but even a ballpark figure would be helpful)

1:05
Eno Sarris: End of the aces. Still a 5-6th rounder probably. Marc Normandin bought him at $9 this year in a mixed league auction I was in, and I almost extended him at 8/13/18 to keep him.

1:05
Comment From ACC
I might be forced with number 1 roto starter as Bailey or Sanchez… is this doable for success??

1:06
Eno Sarris: Ug. I might see if I could trade Sanchez as a number one for two #2s, so that you could have something like Bailey/Cole/Gray or something instead. Those guys you’ve got are post-peak in my estimation.

1:06
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy

With Medlen done, do you go young upside with Yordano? A deep sleeper like Skaggs? Porcello as a young break out? Old upside in kazmir? Those were my four, anyone else you like?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Skaggs is probably higher floor than Yordano, IMO. Porcello highest floor. The shallower the league, I go Yordano. The deeper, I go Porcello.

1:07

Dear Mr. Eno-Man- whatif either Rutledge or Owings get significant (over 450) plate appearances this year.

1:11
Eno Sarris: Rut might have better fantasy line if both given PAs. He has a tiny bit more power.

1:12
Comment From Mick Narkakis
It seems like every year for the past decade, I’ve heard Nick Markakis sprinkled in to a few Sleepers list. I thought for sure that would finally end this season, but now I’ve seen a few writers boasting about how he put on 40 lbs in the offseason and will be “a beast” in 2014. Should we put any stock in this, or are we looking at our annual waste of a perfectly good sleeper pick?

1:12
Eno Sarris: He’s a deep league PA play in that he’ll play and rack up runs and RBI. Other than that, I’m not thinking about him much.

1:12
Comment From gareth
Ervin, wood and Teheran are nice fantasy options. Would it be messed up to have all 3 on your team?

1:12
Eno Sarris: No!

1:13

Are you worried about Puig’s K rate? Would he be a top 10 guy if he made those outs via groundball?

1:13
Eno Sarris: Yes I have Puig at like a .275 average or so because of the Ks.

1:13
Comment From Ryan
fangraphs projections don’t really love Carrasco, he has three plus pitches, but what do you see in him? even an AL only leage can do better than a 4 era and 1.35 whip.

1:13
Eno Sarris: What I’m worried about is that all of his pitches are average or better, but only barely above average. So if that’s the case, he might be league average. Which isn’t great in fantasy. So yeah, he’s a deep league play.

It seems expectations for Dexter Fowler are all over the board this year. What say you?

ENO! In a league that has the following stats (get ready) 1B/2B/3B/HR/RBI/SB/K/BA/OBP/SLG/K and IP/W/L/SV/HLD/HR/BB/K/Kper9/ERA/WHIP which side do you like. [Cliff Lee, M.Bum, Werth, E5, McCann for Kershaw, C.Davis, Carlos Beltran, Wacha]

1:17
Eno Sarris: So I see higher-end talent on the Kershaw side, so I’ll take that. There’s enough talent on the Lee side (and I love McCann this year) but top of the line talent is tough to trade for. You can find a Werth.

Is Mark Trumbo a safe pick in the top 30? is he worth being drafted that high if his average stays at .240?
