Eno Sarris: See I’ve been thinking about this one and don’t know it’s like choosing between my sons. One has the plate discipline down, and .300/15/35 ceiling. The other is Mr. Power, and he has .280/35 type upside. Betts has the higher floor with regard to outcomes, Soler has the higher playing time floor.

Eno Sarris: It’s not even close for this year by steamer, with Vmart a top 50 bat and Betts (OF) a three dollar player. I suppose even if you think it’s closer than that, and there’s $3 at stake, it’s hard to take the Betts side. Unless you looking a bit towards 2016.

We are transitioning to a dynasty league. This year we keep 13 players and draft 14-26. Do I keep Ryu, Sonny Gray (already have Kluber and Hamels), Matt Carpenter (have Miggy, who has 3rd base eligibility) or Gattis (I have hamstrung Lecroy)?

Eno Sarris: Keeping 13 you can keep three pitchers. I have Ryu above Gray. Gattis is a little sexy time as perhaps a trade chip.

Whenever you are asked a keeper question, you seem to default to ” keep the hitter over the pitcher”. I know that pitchers have more volatility, but this is partly reflected in the 68-32 split. Also, you need some volatility to win a 15 team league. Can you quantify your anti-pitcher position ?

Eno Sarris: When a pitcher gets hurt he gets hurt for longer, on average. Pitchers have a thing that immediately gets worse every year they are in the league but is super important to their outcomes: velocity. Hitters may have that, but it’s not as easily quantifiable.

Going to beer festival this weekend, lines and beers running out is not really a concern. Whats the strategy? low abv first? IPAs then stouts?

Eno Sarris: Don’t do what I did and run for Pliny the Younger and then drink all triple IPAs first. The best general rule of thumb is IBU/hoppiness. I’d probably do saisons (not sour saisons), weak stouts, double stouts, IPAs, DIPAs, sours. Your palate will be refreshed by the change in styles if you do it right.

Eno Sarris: The deeper the league, the more I lean Bourn. Much higher floor. As for ceiling, Everth’s batting average takes away from his stolen base upside — if position not important, Bourn every time.

Eno Sarris: Not at all. Eaton higher floor because he’s an unquestioned starter when healthy and could figure out the base stealing thing at some point. Pollock higher ceiling if he really has figured out righties. Doesn’t sound like an only league, so keep Pollock for ceiling.

Who’s a “Tier 2” SP in your ranks that has the best chance of being a top 10 SP? I like to grab one of these guys in round 3 or 4 then lay off pitching for a while. For me, two years ago it was Darvish and last year Jose Fernandez (worked until TJ).

Eno Sarris: Cole Hamels, Matt Harvey, Alex Cobb just needs health, Alex Wood needs a few wins. I’d take one of Carrasco, Cole, deGrom, Stroman to do it too. If had one of each group, I’d do the jig.

Eno Sarris: 23 year old walked more than league average, made more contact than league average, came within a homer or two of league average power, and was valuable on the basepaths. I see no reason to predict a bad BABIP for him, and with a normal BABIP, he’s a league-average player next year, and a fantasy .280/10/30 guy on the cheap. Give me your shares.

Am I the only one that is terrified of Justin Upton this year? I just don’t see the upside for where he is drafted. He’s been a consistent .270 hitter with solid RBI/R and 25-27 homers, but the steals are trending down and he’s going to an extreme pitchers park. Yet he’s going around Harper in redraft.

Like most people, I’m not convinced Gregerson survives as Houston’s closer. That being said, most every source thinks that Fields or Neshek would be next in line, yet I did hear you pick out Qualls as the best bet to replace him. Still feel confident in Qualls winning the job?

Eno Sarris: Fields is the Closer of the Future, but who knows when the Future begins. Neshek might be the best bet this year, but he’s so funky and has had big splits in the past. Might be a FUBAR pen again even if they spent money.

I inherited a keep-6 in a 12 team mixed h2h points league and my team is very light on hitting talent but deep in pitching. Another owner offered me my $11 Sale for his $10 Brantley and $10 Gattis. Both hitters would be kept, and I’m already keeping Kershaw and Smyly, but I already have Lucroy at C so it’s not a position of need. Thoughts?

Eno Sarris: Keep talking with him or talk to some other teams offline about Gattis. you’re keeping too many pitchers. I’d never leave top six rounds with three pitchers. Like Brantley, and if you can turn Gattis + Smyly into another hitter and keep five with Kershaw, you gold.

Eno Sarris: I was down on Baez before it was cool. Have zero shares in ten dynasty leagues. K% does stabilize quickly. Could try to watch that.

Important Question….how can I apply the Auction Calculator to a shallow 10 team h2h redraft league? I know I can modify the format to reflect my own, I just don’t know how much weight I should place in the rankings for a h2h set up. Based on my format (only 3 OF), it looks like it inflates the value non-OF positions like catcher and MIF, placing guys like Tulo and Gattis much higher than normal. How much should I buy into this?

Eno Sarris: I’d fade all outfielders in your setup. The outfielders you’ll see at the end of the draft will all be good.

Our keeper league is at a crossroads and you are our only hope for clarity… We can keep players for 3 years at whatever price you acquired them at. We are in huge disagreement about how to go about setting the price for a player should an owner choose to extend them after those 3 years are up. Some want to use the average auction cost published on some of the bigger websites and just say you can resign them for 3 years at whatever that cost is. This is dumb right, there has to be a better way…

Eno Sarris: Just come up with an extension plan. I don’t mind $5+ per year. If he costs $5 now, and you sigh him to three years, you get $10/15/20. That allows you to keep guys for a bit at below cost, but doesn’t let you keep Trout under cost for too many years.

Eno Sarris: No reason to avoid. Might be a reason to avoid stacking one lineup with all those guys, though. One guy away from home is fine.

Do pitchers look at this Pitch F/X data? Sometimes you’ll he a guys pitch change and take a step forward(Cole Hamel’s Curve for example), but their usage doesn’t change. Are they aware the pitch is better?

Eno Sarris: Differs from pitcher to pitcher to team to team. I’ll be asking about this for sure. I know McCarthy looks at it. Pretty sure Greinke, Bauer do.

I believe I may be using pauction nalculator incorrectly. Trying to use my home league 10 tm pts -1 per ks i keep getting stud SP’s (Darvish, Bums, Kluber) and imo weak hitting. (Reyes, and Vmart) Those are my first picks. I thought in 10 tm you are looking for the best bats. What can I change to bring my hitter values up?

Eno Sarris: You can change the hitter/pitcher mix at the top. Put a % in. Change it to 75.

Hey Eno, I love talking about beer and all but as a Canadian I have no idea what all your American breweries are..do you know much about Canadian beer? I don’t mean Molson Canadian or Alexander Keith’s..there are a lot of good things coming from the Ontario/Quebec craft brewing scene: Steamwhistle Pilsner (fairly mainstream now), Mill Street, St. Ambroise, and, my favourite, Beau’s All Natural (also available in New York State). I highly recommend all of it.

Eno Sarris: It just doesn’t make it south a lot. Noted!

Where do you fall on Rendon? He hit a high number of Just Enough HRs but he also had one of the highest average flyball distances of all 2Bs. Will he continue to steal? I have no clue on how to value him this year.

Eno Sarris: I believe the power. It was always supposed to be there. His swing looks nice to me. I think he can steal 8-10 or so, but not going to steal a ton of bases going forward.

Xander Bogaerts: Any hope he will near the Boston hype?

Eno Sarris: He’s another one that I think did really well for his debut. He’s 22 and played a good shortstop with representative power and plate discipline. I think he’ll push the BB% and K% to average, and hit for more power. Could see a peak of .280/20/5, and soon. Maybe more power in peak.

Hey Eno, I experienced my first Pliny the Younger taste this past week. How did this years batch compare to others? I honestly wasn’t all that over the moon for Younger (although I am glad I crossed it off my bucket list). It seemed to lack the pzazz of Elder in my opinion.

Hey Eno, I’m in a 12 team keep forever league. Trying to decide between Wacha and deGrom for my last spot. I’m already keeping Darvish, Sherzer, and Harvey… 1st and 2nd in my league have amazing staffs, I finished third last year.

It only rates 19 starters as worth positive dollars and only about 10 are actually draftable. Any suggestions on how I can set it up to get use able values? What hitter/pitcher split do you use for your rankings? How about the Pauction/Malctulator? I think Larry Schechter says to use 69/31 because that’s what most auction calculators use and you want to be using what everyone else is otherwise you will under/over value hitters/pitchers compared to your other drafters.

Kershaw (1st), Strasburg(3rd), Puig (4th), Tulo (last round), Fielder (last), Chris Davis (last), Arrieta (last). My idea is to keep Kershaw, Puig, Tulo and Fielder, but I’m considering dropping Kershaw and keeping Davis. What do you think?

Eno Sarris: Yeah I think you keep Clayton. Your other keepers have a ton of surplus value, and you’re in a ten-teamer, so a first rounder at first round price is also valuable.

How much do teams care about mental health? Do any require them to meet with a team counselor for something like a physical or even on a regular basis? ESPECIALLY when they are on the DL.

Eno Sarris: They usually have an associated psychologist, but from what I’ve read — Smoltz talked about it some, and Hayhurst — the player has to ask for it.
