How good is soler this year? Better than Cespedes?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Yes!

12:01
Comment From Jack
Betts or Soler in a keep forever league

12:03
Eno Sarris: See I’ve been thinking about this one and don’t know it’s like choosing between my sons. One has the plate discipline down, and .300/15/35 ceiling. The other is Mr. Power, and he has .280/35 type upside. Betts has the higher floor with regard to outcomes, Soler has the higher playing time floor.

12:04
Comment From Joe
Would you trade an $8 VMart for a $5 Betts in a keeper points league where Betts is not eligible at second?

12:05
Eno Sarris: It’s not even close for this year by steamer, with Vmart a top 50 bat and Betts (OF) a three dollar player. I suppose even if you think it’s closer than that, and there’s $3 at stake, it’s hard to take the Betts side. Unless you looking a bit towards 2016.

12:05
Comment From Echo
We are transitioning to a dynasty league. This year we keep 13 players and draft 14-26. Do I keep Ryu, Sonny Gray (already have Kluber and Hamels), Matt Carpenter (have Miggy, who has 3rd base eligibility) or Gattis (I have hamstrung Lecroy)?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Keeping 13 you can keep three pitchers. I have Ryu above Gray. Gattis is a little sexy time as perhaps a trade chip.

12:07
Comment From Guest
If Tomas doesnt stick at 3rd does Trumbo get moved if hes relatively healthy?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Moved as in traded? Yes I think he gets traded if he plays well.

12:08
Comment From Mike Boddicker
I am going to be in Nashville in about a month. I heard Yazoo products are pretty decent. Are there any other brews I need to sample?

12:09
Eno Sarris: If you can get your hands on some of the southern beers http://beergraphs.com/leade… particularly from North Carolina, then dig on those, even before Yazoo. If you talking local. Looks like Blackstone or Black Abbey are your haunts http://beergraphs.com/leade…

12:09
Comment From Marty
Thoughts on Rusney Castillo? 4th OF at this stage?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Trying to be conservative on him. Have a .275/10/28 type projection down.

12:10
Comment From Very, Very Important Question Asker
HELP! Huuuge potential dynasty league trade. Keep forever, no salaries. Side A gets Bryce Harper. Side B gets Baez + one of Buxton/Soler/JP Crawford. Which of those guys (if any) paired with Baez convinces you to give up Harper? Thanks!

12:10
Eno Sarris: If I get Soler I might do it but I’m not in on Baez.

12:10
Comment From Nelson
Pour one out for Michael Saunders

12:11
Eno Sarris: Oh man already? And I thought he was going to be useful this year. Makes Dalton Pompey even more attractive. Not physically, though he is kinda cute.

12:11
Comment From Milke Strout
Hold on to which 2 in a keep forever QS league: Stroman, Richards, Wheeler?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Should be Miiilke Stout or maybe not. I’ll take Stroman for sure. I like Wheeler, and his arsenal, but Richard’s command is so much better. I think I take Richards.

12:12
Comment From Ryan
Who ends their career as a better fantasy 3B — Rendon or Arenado — in a keep forever?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Arenado? Home park going to help him, and not sure Rendon keeps stealing bags.

12:12
Comment From Art Vandelay
Would you draft Michael Brantley in the top ten this year?

12:12
Eno Sarris: no.

12:12
Comment From hscer
How much OBP is Espinosa’s stache worth? I say at least 50 points

12:12
Eno Sarris: Pitchers’ all like damn looks like a porno and now I’m thinking about breasts…. dang ball three.

12:12
Comment From Brian
Operation Ivy, Mookie talk, and beer. This has the makings of the best chat ever.

12:13
Eno Sarris: All down hill from here.

12:13
Eno Sarris: Kipnis. He’s going to have his power underprojected because he hurt himself last year.

12:13
Comment From Over under 24.5 HR for Neil Walker,
Over under 24.5 HR for Neil Walker? I think he’s going to be a stud this year, just wanted to run that by you.

12:14
Comment From Ben
Dozier or Kipnis? this year only

12:15
Eno Sarris: I mean dude’s 29, I don’t think he’ll add much to last year’s homer total, which was already seven better than his previous best. Sorry for wonky order on those.

12:15
Eno Sarris: That last one’s about Walker.

12:15
Comment From EGL
Whenever you are asked a keeper question, you seem to default to ” keep the hitter over the pitcher”. I know that pitchers have more volatility, but this is partly reflected in the 68-32 split. Also, you need some volatility to win a 15 team league. Can you quantify your anti-pitcher position ?

12:16
Eno Sarris: When a pitcher gets hurt he gets hurt for longer, on average. Pitchers have a thing that immediately gets worse every year they are in the league but is super important to their outcomes: velocity. Hitters may have that, but it’s not as easily quantifiable.

12:16
Comment From Nelson
Going to beer festival this weekend, lines and beers running out is not really a concern. Whats the strategy? low abv first? IPAs then stouts?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Don’t do what I did and run for Pliny the Younger and then drink all triple IPAs first. The best general rule of thumb is IBU/hoppiness. I’d probably do saisons (not sour saisons), weak stouts, double stouts, IPAs, DIPAs, sours. Your palate will be refreshed by the change in styles if you do it right.

12:17
Comment From Alex
Any chance Rendon maintains his 2B eligibility in 2016 in a league where he needs five starts at the position?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Yes. Zimmerman still on the team and there are plenty of different ways this season can go down.

12:18
Comment From KB
Late 2B option you would be OK with as your starter in a mixed league?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Walker, Lawrie, Odor, Wong. I’d want one of group A and one of group B.

12:19
Comment From Lenard
Hi Eno, assuming health, would you rather draft Brandon Moss or Steve Pearce?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Moss. Pearce right-handed and all of his gains came against right-handers and he was supposed to be a righty platoon bat before last year.

12:19
Comment From rustydude
In a league with no position requirements, considering age & injury history, would you take Leonys Martin over Jose Reyes?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Yah. They both very similar in power/speed output at this point, Martin younger, which offsets his platoon risk.

12:20
Comment From Art Vandelay
Who closes for the Giants this year? Romo or Casilla?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Both. I bet Romo gets it back.

12:20
Comment From Bill
Betts or Kipnis 2015 for a redraft league?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Kipnis.

12:20
Comment From Steve
Seems like all the Gregory Polanco hype really died down this year. Are you a believer?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Yes. I think he had a hell of a debut and OBP and power are going to come.

12:21
Comment From Mark
Last keeper (keep 5): Greinke or Frazier (Greinke would be only pitcher I keep)

12:21
Eno Sarris: As long as he’s your only one, Greinke. He’s a top ten pitcher and Frazier not a top ten 3b, or barely.

12:21
Comment From West Ashley
You been to Sante Adairius in Capitola yet? It will change your life in a Natalie Portman / Shins way.

12:22
Eno Sarris: Last weekend, biked to all the Santa Cruz breweries. Adairius killed em all. So. Awesome.

12:22
Comment From Maxamuz

Josh Hamilton just wanted the extra caffeine.

12:22
Eno Sarris: “worse than PEDs” shaking my damn head

12:22
Comment From gaedel
Who do you see as the better source of steals from the last spot on a roster? Everth or Bourn?

12:23
Eno Sarris: The deeper the league, the more I lean Bourn. Much higher floor. As for ceiling, Everth’s batting average takes away from his stolen base upside — if position not important, Bourn every time.

12:23
Comment From Lucas Duda
Assuming a $200 budget, what should Trout go for?

12:24
Eno Sarris: This says $31 and I can’t argue too much http://www.fangraphs.com/au…

12:24
Comment From UJ
Any hope for Ubaldo bounce back?

12:25
Eno Sarris: he still struck out a fair amount of batters! and his command goes in and out, it could come back. But even then I think it’s too much to ask for better than league average. in the AL.

12:25
Comment From Charkip
How long will Hamilton be out now, due to his relapse. Is this now the end of Hamilton and baseball?

12:26
Eno Sarris: Honestly, it shouldn’t be. We are punishing the dude for being human and having problems? Why aren’t we helping him fix those problems? Ridiculous. The conversation is totally off on this one.

12:26
Comment From Cason Jolette
What type of players should I avoid in a h2h format?

12:26
Eno Sarris: Bill Petti found that high-strikeout batters are little more volatile, and that might mean that they take weeks off and cost you in H2H.

12:26
Comment From Maxamuz

Who cares about his projection, what is the Castillo are the bumps on his ear?

12:27
Eno Sarris: This is a scary picture.

12:27
Comment From Paul
New Viet Cong album is spectacular. Anyone else think its kind of adorable that Carlos Quentin is trying to play first base?

12:27
Eno Sarris: Yes I do like that album. Adorable is not a word I would ever use for that dude.

12:27
Comment From Chuck
Am I crazy for considering Baez over Beltre in a 3 year keeper league?

12:27
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:28
Comment From Bartleby
JD Martinez good for .290-25? You take him over guys like Calhoun, Heyward, Blackmon??

12:28
Eno Sarris: Calculator says take him over Calhoun but I don’t like him for that batting average and I’d take all of them over him.

12:28
Comment From Charkip
Who will have the worst record in baseball this year? The Phillies?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Braves?

12:29
Comment From Guest
With K-rod back with the brew crew does Papelbon stay put?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Unless Toronto ponies up, which I doubt they will.

12:29
Comment From Vilnius B.
I’m looking for some sleeper pitchers in a 16 team 12 keeper pts. league. Wins and losses don’t help or hurt that much. IPs and Ks and not giving up HRs and walks do matter. I have Stras, Gio, Richards and Smyly as keepers.

12:30
Eno Sarris: Guys I like around 80+: Chase Anderson, Shane Greene, Andrew Heaney, Anthony DeSclafani, Wade Miley.

12:30
Comment From beertasteslike
It’s early, but what is the best beer you have had this year?

12:31
Eno Sarris: The Rare Barrel Ensorcelled, a dark raspberry sour. And Sante Adairius’ IPA, whatever it was called.

12:31
Comment From John
can you imagine if MLB always suspended players for recreational drug use? the hall of fame would be almost empty

12:31
Eno Sarris: Exactly. What the hell.

12:31
Comment From Angel in the Outfield
Who benefits the most if Hamilton is out for an extended period of time?

12:31
Eno Sarris: CJ Cron?

12:31
Comment From Deezy
If you miss out on the top 4 shortstops, where do you see yourself grabbing one? There doesn’t seem to be much seperation, so in a 10 team league with no MI, I feel inclined to just wait until the end and grab a Segura type.

12:32
Eno Sarris: I’d try to do the Group A (one of Andrus, Alcides, Alexei, Rollins), Group B (Bogearts, Segura, Kang, Seattle SS) thing.

12:33
Comment From Matt
I heard that Chapman’s fastball can power an infinite probability drive.

re: beer festival; you can have a plan, but you are usually slammered by about an hour in

12:33
Eno Sarris: high quality lude.

12:33
Comment From meatballsfly
Does Rodriguez locking down his old role change his draft value?

12:33
Eno Sarris: of course. Doesn’t make him a top guy though.

12:33
Comment From Con
Mr. Sarris – I really need the Pollock or Eaton answer (5×5 roto, which to keep). Maybe I am way off on this comparison?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Not at all. Eaton higher floor because he’s an unquestioned starter when healthy and could figure out the base stealing thing at some point. Pollock higher ceiling if he really has figured out righties. Doesn’t sound like an only league, so keep Pollock for ceiling.

You like Chris Davis to bounce back this year?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Mild. To usefulness.

12:36
Comment From Shawn
Who do you like at the mid-back end of the 1st rd this year?

12:36
Eno Sarris: One of the Toronto batts. Rizzo Puig there for me too.

12:37
Comment From Tuna
Who’s a “Tier 2” SP in your ranks that has the best chance of being a top 10 SP? I like to grab one of these guys in round 3 or 4 then lay off pitching for a while. For me, two years ago it was Darvish and last year Jose Fernandez (worked until TJ).

12:38
Eno Sarris: Cole Hamels, Matt Harvey, Alex Cobb just needs health, Alex Wood needs a few wins. I’d take one of Carrasco, Cole, deGrom, Stroman to do it too. If had one of each group, I’d do the jig.

12:38
Comment From RK
I know we shouldn’t expect too much from rookies, but Polonco did not have a “hell of a debut”

12:40
Eno Sarris: 23 year old walked more than league average, made more contact than league average, came within a homer or two of league average power, and was valuable on the basepaths. I see no reason to predict a bad BABIP for him, and with a normal BABIP, he’s a league-average player next year, and a fantasy .280/10/30 guy on the cheap. Give me your shares.

12:40
Comment From Germany is Genius
Did you know that there’s no fracking in Germany? The energy companies were tryna frack and open up permits, but the German beer brewers’ guild was all like “nah son, you can’t fux with the water we use to make our beer.” And because German beer purity laws are like their version of the Constitution, that was the end of fracking. BEER SAVED THE ENVIRONMENT I LOVE THIS COUNTRY

12:40
Eno Sarris: Gut gemacht.

12:40
Comment From Jason
You think Urias cracks the big club this season?

12:40
Eno Sarris: No.

12:40
Comment From Paul
What percentage of your auction dollars do you usually set aside for pitching?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Usually about 28%, but might push it down a dollar or few this year because I am confident in my pitching finding skills.

12:41
Comment From Bossman
Am I the only one that is terrified of Justin Upton this year? I just don’t see the upside for where he is drafted. He’s been a consistent .270 hitter with solid RBI/R and 25-27 homers, but the steals are trending down and he’s going to an extreme pitchers park. Yet he’s going around Harper in redraft.

12:41
Eno Sarris: I think his homers are no doubters and he’ll hit for about the same power.

12:41
Comment From rustydude
Speaking of Hamilton, I could really use an accountability coach that hangs by my side all day and whose salary is paid for by my employer.

12:41
Eno Sarris: no dude that sushi is like eight days old

12:42
Comment From Guest
Is Christian Yelich the heir to the Shin-Soo Choo throne if a few more FB come? Their plate discipline and skill set are nearly identical.

12:42
Eno Sarris: Yes love Yelich, more in keeper leagues.

12:42
Comment From Ian
Where would you rank Rendon as a keeper in a keep forever no cost league?

12:42
Eno Sarris: top 20 no doubt, maybe top 15.

12:43
Comment From Karlll
AL Only Keeper ($260) where the other 10 owners are super conservative and only keep cheap guys… Im thinking about keeping Sale, Felix, and Price, each for $30. Does the edge this gives me in pitching and for tradeable assets during the season outweigh having less money than everyone else at the auction?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Our calculator says only two of those guys worth $30 http://www.fangraphs.com/au… and that means you keeping at value… don’t love the plan. Maybe one. Felix.

12:44
Comment From beertasteslike
Not sure if you saw the HBT article from Craig C about not suspending Hamilton due to addiction being an illness. Thoughts? I thought it was interesting, but a slippery slope.

12:44
Eno Sarris: I’m with Craig.

12:44
Comment From Saves Vulture
Like most people, I’m not convinced Gregerson survives as Houston’s closer. That being said, most every source thinks that Fields or Neshek would be next in line, yet I did hear you pick out Qualls as the best bet to replace him. Still feel confident in Qualls winning the job?

12:45
Eno Sarris: Fields is the Closer of the Future, but who knows when the Future begins. Neshek might be the best bet this year, but he’s so funky and has had big splits in the past. Might be a FUBAR pen again even if they spent money.

12:45
Comment From Matt
any truth to the ‘green flash brewed alpine offerings are worse’ chatter? i have only ever had duet in a keg in san jose so i assume that was green flash brewed…i thought is was awesome.

12:45
Eno Sarris: I’ve been enjoying my Alpine still.

12:45
Comment From Andrew McCutchen
The Pirates aren’t really going to extend me, right? They got me locked up til I’m 32.. I just don’t get it!

12:46
Eno Sarris: Well now I know you’re not Andrew McCutchen

12:46
Comment From MSW
I inherited a keep-6 in a 12 team mixed h2h points league and my team is very light on hitting talent but deep in pitching. Another owner offered me my $11 Sale for his $10 Brantley and $10 Gattis. Both hitters would be kept, and I’m already keeping Kershaw and Smyly, but I already have Lucroy at C so it’s not a position of need. Thoughts?

12:47
Eno Sarris: Keep talking with him or talk to some other teams offline about Gattis. you’re keeping too many pitchers. I’d never leave top six rounds with three pitchers. Like Brantley, and if you can turn Gattis + Smyly into another hitter and keep five with Kershaw, you gold.

12:47
Eno Sarris: STAY GOLD PONY BOY

12:47
Comment From simply_jmo
eno – What are your thoughts on coors original? Got a place out on LI that has it on tap and does 16 oz cups for $3 during the summer. Ya cant beat that!

12:47
Eno Sarris: It’s my flip cup beer.

12:47
Comment From BallparkFrank
How do you see Marcus Semien panning out in Oakland? Im trying to target a young SS with power/speed upside and he intrigues me.

12:48
Eno Sarris: Better in OBP leagues, a little nervous about role of park, might only be a .250/12/12 kind of guy, but better than that in OBP. Nice guy to target in deeper leagues.

12:48
Comment From Calvin
For 2016 only in an AL only league, and with equal costs for both, would you rather Kole Calhoun or Mookie?

12:48
Eno Sarris: For this year only? Calhoun.

12:48
Comment From Rated Rookie
You’re down on Baez; many people are. Bracketing that for a moment, what–if anything–could count as evidence in spring training that he is beginning to make the necessary adjustments?

12:49
Eno Sarris: I was down on Baez before it was cool. Have zero shares in ten dynasty leagues. K% does stabilize quickly. Could try to watch that.

12:49
Comment From Cason Jollette
Important Question….how can I apply the Auction Calculator to a shallow 10 team h2h redraft league? I know I can modify the format to reflect my own, I just don’t know how much weight I should place in the rankings for a h2h set up. Based on my format (only 3 OF), it looks like it inflates the value non-OF positions like catcher and MIF, placing guys like Tulo and Gattis much higher than normal. How much should I buy into this?

12:50
Eno Sarris: I’d fade all outfielders in your setup. The outfielders you’ll see at the end of the draft will all be good.

12:50
Comment From Andrew
As a third 1B option for a contending team, how much would you add to the underwhelming but reliable Loney to get Napoli? Is it even worth pursuing? This is a FG points-style league.

12:50
Eno Sarris: yeah Napoli has walks, power, and lost the sleep apnea. Honestly that could be important. I wouldn’t add much but I’d go for it.

12:51
Comment From John
well its like all addiction… addiction is considered by medical professionals as a disease, but by employers and the government as a crime. its bad that he relapsed, but it is worse that he (or anyone) gets punished. anyone who knows anyone with an addiction knows its a debilitating disease, and yet society doesn’t want to treat it as such. its sad

Comment From Calvin
Does Toronto go after another OF before the season, with Saunders missing half the year?

12:53
Eno Sarris: Right now it’s probably Pillar/Pompey/Bautista starting with Colabello or Tolleson backing up… Might take a shot at Hairston or Kubel, doubt they give up much or swallow a lot of money to get Ethier.

12:53
Comment From John
i feel as though wheeler has been basically mike pelfrey plus strikeouts… what can he do to, i dont know, last beyond 5 innings?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Command. It’s all that’s missing. Better pitches than Pelfrey, who had 1.5 pitches.

12:54
Comment From Karlll
Our keeper league is at a crossroads and you are our only hope for clarity… We can keep players for 3 years at whatever price you acquired them at. We are in huge disagreement about how to go about setting the price for a player should an owner choose to extend them after those 3 years are up. Some want to use the average auction cost published on some of the bigger websites and just say you can resign them for 3 years at whatever that cost is. This is dumb right, there has to be a better way…

12:55
Eno Sarris: Just come up with an extension plan. I don’t mind $5+ per year. If he costs $5 now, and you sigh him to three years, you get $10/15/20. That allows you to keep guys for a bit at below cost, but doesn’t let you keep Trout under cost for too many years.

12:56
Comment From Brad
20 team keeper league. Should I keep Mejia considering saves and hold are worth a lot of points. I am just afraid he wont stick there long.

12:56
Eno Sarris: I kept Mejia in a 20-team 28-keeper as my only reliever.

12:56

Sante IPA: 831 is their most popular. I see a dankness has been on tap recently so it could have been that. Simpleton was a growler fill not too long ago…..all of them are phenomenal.

12:57

If I’m reading things correctly, it appears that Green Flash/Alpine are planning to expand production. Will that include wider distribution as well? I can find all kinds of Green Flash beers in MKE but am hoping that Nelson finds its way up here.

12:58
Comment From pair-a-dice
so you said you liked the shape of Heaney’s change. Tell me more.

12:59

12:59
Comment From Hop Head
John Smoltz is the first pitcher to be inducted into the Hall of Fame post Tommy John surgery. Who do you see following in his footsteps?

12:59
Eno Sarris: All of the future Hall of Famers.

Comment From Deezy
Would you avoid players with stark home/away splits in h2h format? Like Rockies hitters or Padres pitchers? They can help win your week in their home environment, but could be dead weight when they play away. Trying to figure out whether I should invest in guys like Dickerson, Arrenado, and Tulo

1:00
Eno Sarris: No reason to avoid. Might be a reason to avoid stacking one lineup with all those guys, though. One guy away from home is fine.

1:00
Comment From Guest
how the hell are rec drugs worse than ped’s? is it a perception thing?

1:00
Eno Sarris: I mean I guess the only way I could understand it if the person meant it was worse for Hamilton’s life, because yeah I guess a relapse is worse for him than a PED pop. But otherwise I think it’s stupid.

Do pitchers look at this Pitch F/X data? Sometimes you’ll he a guys pitch change and take a step forward(Cole Hamel’s Curve for example), but their usage doesn’t change. Are they aware the pitch is better?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Differs from pitcher to pitcher to team to team. I’ll be asking about this for sure. I know McCarthy looks at it. Pretty sure Greinke, Bauer do.

I believe I may be using pauction nalculator incorrectly. Trying to use my home league 10 tm pts -1 per ks i keep getting stud SP’s (Darvish, Bums, Kluber) and imo weak hitting. (Reyes, and Vmart) Those are my first picks. I thought in 10 tm you are looking for the best bats. What can I change to bring my hitter values up?

1:04
Eno Sarris: You can change the hitter/pitcher mix at the top. Put a % in. Change it to 75.

Hey Eno, I love talking about beer and all but as a Canadian I have no idea what all your American breweries are..do you know much about Canadian beer? I don’t mean Molson Canadian or Alexander Keith’s..there are a lot of good things coming from the Ontario/Quebec craft brewing scene: Steamwhistle Pilsner (fairly mainstream now), Mill Street, St. Ambroise, and, my favourite, Beau’s All Natural (also available in New York State). Where do you fall on Rendon? He hit a high number of Just Enough HRs but he also had one of the highest average flyball distances of all 2Bs. Will he continue to steal? I have no clue on how to value him this year.

1:05
Eno Sarris: I believe the power. It was always supposed to be there. His swing looks nice to me. I think he can steal 8-10 or so, but not going to steal a ton of bases going forward.

Best long-term keeper: Polanco, Rusney or Wong?

1:06
Eno Sarris: In batting average league I take the 2b.

I really like Starling Marte. I’m expecting something like 20-30 w/ 280+ avg. I get that is optimistic. What are you projecting for him?

1:07
Eno Sarris: .275/15/30. don’t love his plate discipline, some of OBP is in HBP, worried BABIP will come back down a bit.

1:07
Comment From Snid
Xander Bogaerts: Any hope he will near the Boston hype?

1:09
Eno Sarris: He’s another one that I think did really well for his debut. He’s 22 and played a good shortstop with representative power and plate discipline. I think he’ll push the BB% and K% to average, and hit for more power. Could see a peak of .280/20/5, and soon. Maybe more power in peak.

Hey Eno, I experienced my first Pliny the Younger taste this past week. How did this years batch compare to others? I honestly wasn’t all that over the moon for Younger (although I am glad I crossed it off my bucket list). It seemed to lack the pzazz of Elder in my opinion.

1:11
Eno Sarris: That’s what it is, a well-blended stronger Elder with less hop-forward taste. I like it better than Elder, but neither is a top five for me I don’t think.

When did ‘fade’ become synonymous with trade? That’s what you mean, right?

1:11

Todd Zola is all excited about Jose Peraza, the kid who is knocking on the door at 2b in ATL. You think he can make an impact in roto in 2015? 2016?

1:12

Eno, tried asking on Twitter but couldn’t really fit all necessary info. In a deep roster 10 team 6×6, with OPS and K/BB, QS instead of wins. Keep 6, and pretty set on Stanton-$30, Altuve-9, Puig-22 already. A 260 budget. Need 3 more: Pederson-$5, Betts-5, Soler-5, Kluber-7, Chapman-14, JBautista-30. Love Soler and Betts, just looking for an outside opinion. Thanks

1:14

What do you make of Joe Kelly’s plans to use a slider this year and less fastballs? He predicts this formula will win him the cy young.

1:17
Eno Sarris: I heard the Cy part but not the slider part. That part is super interesting to me. Unfortunately, the slider has just as bad a ball rate as the rest of his pitches… but the best zone%. Huh. Maybe he can get it in the zone more. Another Arrieta?

Hey Eno, I’m in a 12 team keep forever league. Trying to decide between Wacha and deGrom for my last spot. I’m already keeping Darvish, Sherzer, and Harvey… 1st and 2nd in my league have amazing staffs, I finished third last year.

1:18
Eno Sarris: Have The Hair a few spots above Wacha in redraft and it seems fair to bump him up another slot in keeper.

1:18
Comment From Dan
You seem to have more love for Soler than most. What do you like so much about him? Who’s the better long term bet, Soler or Puig?

1:19
Eno Sarris: Just like that I think he has BB% upside, really made some great adjustments in the minors, has Grown Man power, is young, and has a spot in a decent park. Puig has more categories though.

1:19
Comment From nfpeters
Why so low on Kazmir in your rankings? You have him slotted below guys you’ve indicated you are down on including Fister, Dickey, others. Worried about last year’s 2nd half?

In a K/9 league and I am struggling to get reasonable value out of the auction calculator for starting pitchers. It only rates 19 starters as worth positive dollars and only about 10 are actually draftable. Any suggestions on how I can set it up to get use able values? Thanks and love the the Sleeper and the Bust.

1:22
Eno Sarris: Maybe try to press the ‘suppress reliever value’ button?

1:22
Comment From Rusty
What hitter/pitcher split do you use for your rankings? How about the Pauction/Malctulator? I think Larry Schechter says to use 69/31 because that’s what most auction calculators use and you want to be using what everyone else is otherwise you will under/over value hitters/pitchers compared to your other drafters.

1:23
Eno Sarris: I agree in general. You want to know what the group is doing, then you can zag from there.

Hi Eno, fan here writing from Brazil. I can keep four of the following, and would be drafting 5th in a league with 10 teams. Kershaw (1st), Strasburg(3rd), Puig (4th), Tulo (last round), Fielder (last), Chris Davis (last), Arrieta (last). My idea is to keep Kershaw, Puig, Tulo and Fielder, but I’m considering dropping Kershaw and keeping Davis. What do you think?

1:26
Eno Sarris: Yeah I think you keep Clayton. Your other keepers have a ton of surplus value, and you’re in a ten-teamer, so a first rounder at first round price is also valuable.

is there a flat rate in a league with $260 budgets that you recommend as the cost to keep a player that was picked up off FA? $10 seems pretty logical

1:28

RE: Hamilton relapse

I suppose I get the rehabilitation POV to some extent but I dont understand the overwhelming percentage of people who want to make excuses for addicts in general. Kleptomania and pedophilia are addictions too. You think that people who steal things or molest children should get a free pass and just be rehabilitated?

Yes, I realize drug addiction is different, but the bottom line is that it only becomes an addiction if a person makes a bad decision to use the drug in the first place. At some point you have to be accountable for your actions, addiction or not.

Hamilton should absolutely face punishment if he did in fact use a recreational drug like cocaine. This is a guy who repeatedly violated the drug policy in the past. And if he is forced to take a an extended break from baseball it is likely his best bet to stay sober.

Reply to  cs3

I don’t see Eno or other chatters as excusing him, so much as I see them bemoaning the suspension for it. If an MLB player commits a DUI, or steals, etc, they don’t receive a suspension. The drug focus seems to be arbitrary, especially since cocaine use ostensibly (I haven’t actually done the research) has less of a risk for hurting people other than himself compared to an act like a DUI. Another potential corollary from this might be that the MLB shouldn’t be suspending for any personal behavior.

I agree a person should not be wholly excused for drug use because of an addiction, but it should still be factored in. Guilt is not a dichotomy; it’s a spectrum. We can both acknowledge that his addiction makes it very difficult for him to stay drug-free and not excuse him wholly from his actions. It may not be “fair” that his addiction is making it harder for him to stay drug-free, but we all have to play the hand we’re dealt.

The comments were a bit superficially bit off-putting to me, but I think they make more sense once you tease out their underlying arguments that weren’t explicitly stated.
