Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 2/9/17

1:29
Eno Sarris: I’m a sucker for interesting voices

12:01
Ludes: Props on the new beer site. Digging it so far. RUN THE JEWELS!

12:02
Eno Sarris: Wish I was going to be there but two days earlier have to be in Hawaii for a brew fest on the big island life is RUFF

12:02
2-D: Marlins’ fans rejoice!

12:02
Eno Sarris: Meddling owner for sure. Also: bereft of morals.

12:02
Nathan : Can you summarize the difference between BABIP and xBABIP?

12:04
Eno Sarris: By statcast/Andrew Perpetua/xstats definition, xBABIP is: given the trajectory and velocity of that ball what is the likelihood that a given ball in play is a hit. BABIP is just what happened.

12:04
The Cincinnati Kid: How much does the Carter signing hurt Bird? I’ve got him in Rd 28 in a 10-team league and now I’m really unsure whether to keep him

12:05
Eno Sarris: I think it hurts Austin the most and that’s so low that I’d keep him.

12:05
Bork: Hello, friend! I’m currently in a hospital delivery room. BORK JR COMING TODAY. Obviously not right now or else I’d be worst husband ever

12:05
Eno Sarris: YESSSSSSS

12:05
2-D: Do you like your strike zone above or below the knee?

12:05
Eno Sarris: Below. It’s a lot easier to capture where the bottom of the knee is than the top.

12:06
The Toe: Jeimer Candelario is a future all-star. What say you?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Where’s he playing in the field?

12:06
The Old Professor: Sano or Desmond as my last keeper in a 12 team h2h keep forever points league?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Sano.

12:06
Bill: Please rank in a keep forever: Rodon, R. Iglesias, Taillon. Thanks!

12:07
Eno Sarris: That order. You could move Taillon ahead of Iglesias, but there’s injury and third pitch issues for him.

12:07
@OutfieldGrass24: Is it really feasible to teach a pitcher to throw with more “useful spin?” Have we seen examples of pitchers adding this over time? And if so, is it a matter of #grips, or arm/wrist action?

12:08
Eno Sarris: I think it’s slot, and yeah, we’ve seen guys make massive changes in arm slot: Jake Arrieta, Rich Hill the first that come to mind. One team official told me that Arrieta’s was the largest change in Pfx history.

12:08
JV: Miggy and G. Polanco OR Goldschmidt and Beltre (5×5 OBP league)

12:08
Eno Sarris: First two. Miggy and Goldie closer than the other two.

12:08
Bend It Like Cameron: Would you consider a 5.2%-ABV beer to be a session beer? If so, should Hoppy Birthday be considered a world class session beer?

12:09
Eno Sarris: I do personally but Hoppy Birthday is.. wait for it… too hoppy for me as a session. I prefer All Day and Easy Jack.

12:09
bl27: I like several SP in this group. Manaea, Paxton, Nola, J.Gray, Cotton and Snell. Can you give me your ranking ?

12:09
Eno Sarris: I think this is the breakout group. Very hard to decide between them, but what the hell: Paxton, Gray, Nola, Snell, Cotton, Manaea. And Cotton might be ahead of Snell.

12:10
Coach McGuirk: I was traveling a lot last week and got to have my first Jai Alai, Prairie Bomb, Space Dust, and Hopslam, none of which are distributed to my area. The first three were fantastic, but Hopslam was a major disappointment. Very strong alcohol taste, not a lot of depth of flavor. Nothing to differentiate it from dozens of other DIPAs out there. Can you, or someone here, explain what makes it so popular?

12:10
Eno Sarris: At its best its so honey and floral and can be amazing. But I’ve always found it strong myself.

12:12
J. Peterman: E-no sunshine when she’s gone…

12:12
Eno Sarris:

12:12
Eno Sarris: Song always gets me.

12:12
drassel27: Carlos Carrasco and Kendrys Morales or Kevin Gausman and Miguel Sano. For 2017 only.

12:13
Eno Sarris: Carrasco side. Morales going to have a good year.

12:13
Adam: What likely outcome do you see for Sonny Gray in ’17?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Better than last year, but closer to his projections than his history. Still hasn’t really found a third pitch that he’ll stick with for more than a week. Is working on curve, so I bet he gets his command of that pitch back.

12:15
Aladdin Sane: Runner on second in extra innings rule. WHAT?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Well I hate that particular rule so much because more bunts and sac flies are poop and we’d get more of those. And if there was anything, we should implement it in the 15th to avoid those 22 inning monstrosities that kill a pitching staff and produce inning after inning of desperate swings.

12:16
Eno Surris: If you could have one piece of Baseball Data that you don’t have access to now, what would you like and how would you apply it to your work?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Minor league track man, or hand slot, or spin axis. The first, to find sweet young high spin pitchers like Touki Toussaint. The second two, to better understand useful spin.

12:18
Austin Flowers: Might Austin Meadows be fantasy-relevant by July?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Gotta be the answer when one of the big three OFs go down.

12:18
David: Is Berrios still a decent bet to bounce back after last year’s rough audition?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Yes, the movement on his pitches is v good, all of them. Just needs to figure out how to get ahead.

12:18
J. Peterman: I feel like Nolan Arenado is still underrated. He’s kinda pretty amazing but tends to get brought up as much in the elite-guys-not-named-Trout conversations. Agree?

12:19
Eno Sarris: I’m not sure the park factors for Coors are fair to Rockies players, which lowers his wRC+ and WAR, making him possibly underrated for sure.

12:19
Keefths: Do you think Nola struggles with injuries this year ?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Nothing predicts future injury like past injury.

12:20
Keefths: Can you name a few off the radar OFs with 1-2 years experience in the bigs that can breakthrough in 2017?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Outfielders under 26 that were qualified last year http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=of&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2016&month=0&season1=2016&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=14,26&filter=&players=0 Not a sleeper on the list, unless you count Mazara, but I wouldn’t call him off the radar. Relax the requirement and a few stand out: Keon Broxton, Kevin Kiermaier, Domingo Santana, Brandon Drury.

12:22
Bud : New Diamondback high on Drury. Second base job seems like his to lose. Guess his stat line?

12:23
Eno Sarris: .270/.330/.450. Not much more than last year, some BABIP regression, still decent.

12:23
Kevin: What are you feelings toward Josh Hader? Any valuable fantasy contributions this season?

12:23
Eno Sarris: I like him! Dunno when, but I think he’ll be good.

12:23
LarryA: When you pitched October to Anna Wintour, howd it go? What did you wear?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Sweat pants.

12:23
Lows05: Is there a topic of discussion or just general chat?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Oh you’ll learn quickly.

12:25
@OutfieldGrass24: When are you opening “Eno’s Sandos,” your inevitable international sandwich conglomerate?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Grips: sandwiches, beer to go, taps.

12:25
Eno!: Hey Eno, see a rebound from greinke this year?

12:25
Eno Sarris: I do. I think there was a learning curve to throwing that slider in the desert, and then came the oblique thing.

12:25
David: Going to Spring Training in Arizona this year! Any tips for a first-timer?

12:27
Eno Sarris: Arizona Wilderness in Mesa and McFate/Papago in Scottsdale for beer. Keith Law’s food guide has a great deli and taco spot and sando spot in it.

12:27
Snowflake: Is Ryan Raburn a first rounder this year?

12:27
Matt: I’m going to be in Charlotte the Friday before your party. Can you reschedule so I can attend?

12:27
Meanwhile back at the chat…: Hilarity ensues

12:27
Eno Sarris: That’s an interlude, but it’s not our best.

12:27
Kiermaier’s Piercing Green Eyes: When teams do things that don’t make sense to us, like DFAing seemingly valuable players or trading players for less than we expect, when should we assume incompetence vs the GMs having unknown information?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Interesting because I immediately think of Danny Valencia and Josh Donaldson on the same teams. I assume we should always assume that there is *something* we don’t know, but that balance between makeup issues and talent is different for any GM and then there are the models we don’t have access to as well. Doesn’t mean we can’t criticize the deals, but it is something to think about.

12:30
The Toe: Can the Marlins move to Montreal already?

12:30
Eno Sarris: yes.

12:30
botchatheny: on a scale of 1-10, how pumped up are you for the WBC? you can decided the spectrums

12:31
Eno Sarris: 6-7. I really like the display of different styles and the enthusiasm, but level of play is better in MLB, and I hate to think we might lose a player in the MLB because of the WBC.

12:31
Matt: Difference between BABIP and xBABIP summarized: Eno vs Giselle. One is a model. The other is not.

12:32
Mike Hazen: Are you a catcher by any chance?

12:32
Paul: So the Rare Barrel is hosting a Trillium night on 2/16. And PseudoSue was delivered to city beer store in cans. And I left the Bay Area at wrong time…

12:32
Eno Sarris: Okay we’re getting there because we have beautiful people and jokes and beer in one lude here.

12:33
Erik: Kris Bryant as a prospect was apparently praised for his ability to hit the ball hard to all fields. As a major leaguer, he’s had largely a pull power approach, though you certainly can’t argue that it hasn’t worked. If he taps back into his all-fields power, could he get even better, or would that necessarily come with some loss to his pull power, and make him a worse overall hitter as a result?

12:33
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll have to show it eventually. It’s the ebb and flow of baseball. Become too one dimensional and everyone pitches you one way.

12:33
BHFitz: I’m in Tampa for work, other than cigar city where else should I go drink???

12:33
Eno Sarris: Cycle and Bench.

12:33
Hooha: Do you know if fangraphs is doing the fantasy fangraph+ profiles again this year? If so, do you know when it’ll launch?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Yes and dunno.

12:34
Waldman: What are you thoughts on Story this year?

12:34
Eno Sarris: I saw a couple flavors of approach. I think he kills it.

12:34
Phil: When you mention on a podcast “he performed like a $25 player last season?” .. How do you calculate that value. I would like to use that value to judge keepers. Thanks!

12:35
Eno Sarris: I usually use our auction calculator as a first basis. http://www.fangraphs.com/auctiontool.aspx

12:36
seth r: are schoop and odor basically the same player, just different lineup slots? have the option to keep Schoop @$10 and Odor @$17

12:36
Eno Sarris: I might try to trade Odor if that’s still an option.

12:36
Merv Throneberry: Tyler Austin could end up in the OF though?

12:36
Eno Sarris: And third. But Holliday and Judge are already maybe sharing an OF spot. Still think he gets hurt the most. His projections with the bat are boring.

12:37
Matt: What are your thoughts on this funny business of removing the throws for an intentional walk?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Don’t like that one at all. How much time does it save?

12:37
Nelson: In your sandwich status photos, where are you getting all these exotic ingredients from. Is your fridge just always stocked with 8 different meats, pickled everything, Foie gras 24/7?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Nah, if anything, I have weird sauces. Then I cook dinner most nights and that ends up in sandwiches. Also, I do the shopping most of the time for the family, so it’s easy to buy a couple meats and cheeses.

12:38
botchatheny: you gonna be an acolyte of twitter and get pizza today?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Acid reflux. Can’t.

12:39
Lonnie: Is Matt Strahm going to stay in the pen and dominate or get moved to the rotation? If he is a SP is he worth my last (30th) keeper spot.

12:39
Eno Sarris: I think he starts the season in the pen, but may end the season in the rotation. I like that slot for a big arm.

12:39
Paul: So is Christian Bethancort the most exciting player in baseball now? And if not, aren’t you wrong?

12:40
Eno Sarris: RP/C/OF gets my attention.

12:40
dave in slc: someone mentioned not getting your sp rankings this year, are you not going to do that this year for some reason? I have found it very valuable and appreciate it. Thanks

12:40
Eno Sarris: I’ve been moving away from fantasy because of the beer thing, but what the heck I’ll put something together soon.

12:41
Dpp: salary cap dynasty – $4.5 Smyly through 2019, $.50 Shoemaker 2020, or .50 Skaggs 2018. std 6×6 cats

12:41
Eno Sarris: Shoe.

12:41
The Toe: 3rd base. I’d rather it be for the Cubs pushing KB to RF and Heyward to CF but that seems highly unlikely.

12:41
Eno Sarris: 3rd for another team seems more likely for Candelario. I do like the bat some.

12:42
Guest: Something I’ve been wondering with the Astros projections…if Joe Musgrove was projected for the 150-160 innings that Fiers currently has, and Fiers innings was cut down, is there any chance that would actually improve our SP outlook? B/c I feel like Musgrove is better than Fiers/Morton

12:43
Eno Sarris: The numbers agree with you, but there are a lot of swiss flags on that lineup, Musgrove will get his innings.

12:43
Bork’s Unborn Son: My dad is going to miss my soccer practices because he’s always in fangraph chats 🙁

12:43
Matt: What are your thoughts on this funny business of comedy – how can business be funny?

12:43
mike sixel: Good luck to the Bork family!

12:43
Eno Sarris: Next few years gonna feel like

12:44
STiVo: What are the error bars around ABV% listed on beers? I mean, is it possible that all beers of a particular type dispensed by a certain brewer over time are really the same ABV to the tenth-of-one percent?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Boom. Story.

12:44
Sam: Do you think the value of the Chris Carter deal outweighs the drawback of him taking ABs away from Tyler Austin and Refsynder?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Yes. You can release Carter if it doesn’t work out and Austin gets back in there.

12:44
Kiermaier’s Piercing Green Eyes: wOBA (and hence wRC/wRC+) exclude intentional walks. That doesn’t seem right to me, especially when a Bonds/Harper/Pujols type can have IBBs as a significant portion of their outcomes. What is the reasoning behind that decision?

12:45
Eno Sarris: Too situational? Not always about the player himself. Think about the eighth hitter in the nL.

12:45
Johnny5Alive: Swanson going to be a better real-life player than fantasy? Have an opportunity to turn a $5 swanson into a $5 matz and $2 desclafani in NL only league.

12:45
Eno Sarris: Eh, I mean I love Matz but with injury and arms, I keep the batter there for sure.

12:46
Snowflake: Auction Calculator has McCullers 1 spot ahead of Strasburg. You buying that?

12:47
Eno Sarris: You got some strange settings. K9 or something? Default, Stras is 13 spots ahead of Lance. and 184 innings for Lance seems aggressive.

12:47
Johnny5Alive: conforto slated to start year in minors. UGH! Wouldn’t san fran be a fit for bruce?

12:47
Eno Sarris: Yes on both fronts.

12:47
Eno Sarris: as in UGH and yeah.

12:48
Eno Sarris: Mets should pay some portion of Bruce’s salary and get a minor league reliever back.

12:48
HomebrewJ: SF Beer Week is hours away, is your liver ready?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Covering the gala tomorrow night!

12:48
Youngman: What kind of package of prospects would it cost Atlanta to land Longoria after 2017? (assuming TB has a bad year)

12:49
Eno Sarris: They’re projected to be good, but yeah this could happen. Depends on too much to say for sure. If Longo takes a step back, might not cost as much as he would now, obv.

12:50
Erik: Who is the youngest non-Mike Trout player who you’d give a 50% shot at making the hall of fame?

12:50
Eno Sarris: Miggie is a year younger than Cano, at 33. So him.

12:50
Eno Sarris: Eh, maybe they’re both in? 50%… Cutch is 30?

12:51
Justin: I can keep 1 in the 16th round. Wcontreras, Oh, Reyes or Carlos Gomez?

12:51
Eno Sarris: Contreras.

12:51
The Toe: Dos Equis with lime is bae. Retort.

12:51
Eno Sarris: Lawnmower choice for me.

12:52
Mike: Think Sabathia can keep managing contact as much as he did lat y

12:52
Eno Sarris: Cutter helped. Just don’t know what happens when people know it’s coming.

12:52
Spicey: Bregman is the hot name right now. Does he have actual superstar upside, or just an all star/really nice player? I’ve read conflicting opinions… I’m looking for the next big thing.

12:53
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll cut the K rate and keep the power, which is a great way to tap into superstar upside.

12:53
Rejected : What does a guy have to do to get a “toast” from the Great Eno on untappd?

12:53
Eno Sarris: Haha not actually that much on a Thursday-Sunday night when I pull up the stream.

12:55
STiVo: What song has the highest FAR on Funkgraphs?

12:55
Eno Sarris:

12:55
Matt: Dude! I just realized that using Brian Eno’s first initial makes him Beano.

12:55
Eno Sarris: my first nickname

12:55
Mike: Assuming Benintendi can build on his call up from last year, how likely is it that he bats in the bottom half of the order all year IF Bogaerts also produces? In a recent podcast you still have Benintendi hitting 9th, even though there has been speculation that he could hit 2nd. You had the order: Pedroia, Bogaerts, Betts, Ramirez as the first 4, that does make sense, but as a Benintendi owner I’d love it if he had an opportunity in the 2 hole.

12:56
Eno Sarris: If XB doesn’t actually improve, and Ben is as good as he looked, he’s probably better in the 9th hole. Such a loaded lineup.

12:56
2-D: The times I’ve seen Luis Perdomo’s change/splitter on video it looks like a nice pitch, but it looks pretty average on paper. Should he be throwing it more and has video fooled you on any pitches?

12:57
Eno Sarris: He’s pairing it with his best pitch, the sinker, so it’s not as ‘different’ as it could be put up against his primary pitch. A cutter could make the whole thing hum. Because his four-seam is meh.

12:58
Mike, of Mike and the Mechanics: If you were starting a real baseball team, which of the top-3 prospects (Benintendi, Swanson, Moncada) would you prefer to have on your squad?

12:58
Eno Sarris: I’m a floor guy. It might be stupid, but it’s who I am. Ben.

12:58
Eno Sarris: Although I suppose Swanson’s floor is super high and he plays a tougher position.

12:59
Handsome Ransom Jackson: re: your article on randomness, doesn’t it stand to reason that luck would play a bigger factor when the final cumulative score is 8 or 10, rather than 200

1:00
Eno Sarris: It does! I think they did try to undo some of that by using the line rather than other measures of talent but some differences in the game will always matter. I always wondered if that was an underrated part of being good at defense — keep the scores close and a comeback is easier?

1:00
Gucci: Enooo. So I’m curious what your take on this years “position scarcities” (or the reverse) and how they differ from last year. Obviously shortstop has changed tremendously since last year and it seems like C has become even more of a wasteland. Any others you would care to talk about?

1:00
Eno Sarris: If your league breaks out left field, that’s a real tough spot.

1:01
Matt: This runner on second rule – I didn’t realize it was in place for the WBC. How do you choose the runner? Does it have to be the lineup spot right before the next hitter to the plate?

1:01
Eno Sarris: The WBC needs it because they can’t go 22.

1:01
Eno Sarris: Don’t know specifics!

1:01
Turd Ferguson: Should we add Robbie Ray to the potential list of breakout stars mentioned earlier?

1:02
Eno Sarris: Yes! Was bad third time through order though. That’s always going to be a problem with this arsenal.

1:02
Miketron: Where does Park end up?

1:02
Eno Sarris: White Sox or A’s. Chicago has first shot.

1:02
Bob: Let’s make baseball be 3 balls 2 strikes.

1:03
Eno Sarris: I tend to be against fundamental changes.

1:03
kevinthecomic: question about the strike zone: is the intent that the ENTIRE ball must be inside the ENTIRE strike zone, or is it only some portion of the ball must be in some portion of the strike zone?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Portion.

1:03
jimbo: Mumford is a few blocks from my new office…worth it?

1:03
Eno Sarris: They had some good beers, and are worth visiting, but I will say this, and I know others don’t agree: I got so much oat from their NEIPA that I thought it was meh, and that was the first NEIPA I found meh.

1:04
Kerry: I need a beer that’s pleasant and will go well with pizza for National Pizza Day. Not too Hoppy but something delightful. What do you think would be fun?

1:04
Eno Sarris: Alpine Duet?

1:04
Ball bag: My question has nothing to do with beer. Sorry. Have to cut one of Rodon, C. Davis, Cutch in a pts keeper league. Who do you let go? Cutch and Davis both seem like good bounce-back guys after likely playing through injury.

1:04
Eno Sarris: I love Rodon but the bats are solid and I’d keep them.

1:04
Deep in the hole: Eno…cmon…Buxton 20 bombs 35 steals this year..yes???

1:05
Eno Sarris: 15 and 30 and a .235 BA

1:06
Will Graham : Last year Lemahieu peak? Or is he becoming a first rate hitter? Any power projection left?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Peaked.

1:06
Will Graham : Lackey have another 2-3 years of this type of production or does he fall off quickly? I believe he’s like 37.

1:06
Eno Sarris: I got no idea how he’s doing it. I mean, he threw the change more last year, fine. But how has he stayed at 92 for so long? No ideas.

1:07
Waka: I am not sold on Benintendi at his current price. Seems like people are jumping the gun and predicting the next Betts when Ben might very well hit 9th…. What say you?

1:08
Eno Sarris: He’s probably actually overrated in fantasy, yes. I believe in way more power than his projection, but you have to stay tethered to the projection, which says he’ll hit 12-14 homers if he plays every day, and then yeah is he actually going to steal 15 bases, and even if he does AND hits .290+, what are his R+RBI going to look like.

1:08
Will Graham : I feel like I’m too high on Thames. 30/12 270/340/450?

1:08
Eno Sarris: I mean that’s what his projections say. Seems crazy, but it’s worth buying just based on that unless the hype goes nuts. I bought Duvall a few times last year just because projections liked him and nobody else did.

1:09
OldManRoto: I feel like Odubel Herrera is not getting enough love in fantasy this off season. He increased his walk rate and decreased his Ks. Odie is slotted to bat 3rd which means better counting stats to go with 13+ HR and 20+ SBs . Thinking he has potential to become a top 15 OFer this year. What says Eno?

1:09
Eno Sarris: The walk rate thing was weird. He was NUTSO walking the first two months and then just the normal Dubie after that. His routes are bad but athleticism good. I doubt he gets that high up, but he may just be underrated anyway.

1:10
Paul: Been in SoCal for the past two weeks after being gone for 10+ years and the Mexican food is so much better than SF. Its not close.

1:10
Eno Sarris: Well, Paul, we have Cellarmaker and you don’t so na na ne boo boo.

1:10
2-D: Javier Lopez retired, first ballot LOOGY HoF?

1:10
Eno Sarris: This should exist and yes.

1:10
dave in slc: if this is a general chat I am taking George Washington or Macarthur

1:10
Snowflake: When pitching October in sweatpants, did you enter the room loins first?

1:10
Compton: If you had to classify each of your poops with titles of Don Henley songs, would your most recent poop be more ‘Peaceful Easy Feeling’ or ‘The End of the Innocence’?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Three in a row, like a four leaf clover that I OVERLOOKED BEFOOOOOORRRRE

1:11
botchatheny: have you ever had any of les claypool’s wine?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Listen, Les, I know I forgot to flush, but if you wine about it one more time

1:12
E5: It’s ENO Chat TIME!

1:12
DJ Kitty: Why do projections seem to like Tampa Bay more than common sense? Is it one big blind spot, or lots of little reasons adding up?

1:14
Eno Sarris: I think it’s a bit of the no-holes thing, which is hard to appreciate. If you look at their projections, only one position is projected for less than two wins by rounding error. And then the same is true of the pitching staff, I guess.

1:14
bear: Does Bellinger have a path to the majors this year? Agonz injury?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Outfield injury too?

1:14
Jeff in T.O.: Please Eno, you’re our only hope. Positions and salary don’t really matter, keep two in a deep 15 teamer. Dahl, Bregman, Buxton, Mazara, Willson Contreras. First two right?

1:14
Eno Sarris: yes but Mazara gah

1:15
v2micca: Likeliest Brave’s pitching prospect to be at least League average in 2018, Weber, Newcomb, or Sims?

1:15
Eno Sarris: Newcomb.

1:15
Waka: Feel like Gsellman is flying under the radar as first half replacement for Harvey/deGrom. Have you heard any news updates on these guys that could indicate what sort of roll he’ll have (Gsellman)?

1:15
Eno Sarris: I think Gsellman is in the first chair for the fifth starter role, or yeah fourth starter if one of the surgery returners isn’t ready.

holybartender: What’s the key to attending a 12:10 “Business Person’s Special” game? Pretending you’re still in the office and emailing? Or just straight up saying you’ll be out for four hours?

1:16
Eno Sarris: Early lunch into something came up.

1:17
ZMP: Could you please explain to me your criticism of Taillon’s change-up? I’m not arguing with you, just curious as to why you’re not a fan of it at present

1:17
Eno Sarris: Less movement than his sinker and not even good movement compared to his four-seamer, and bad velocity gap. Mediocre outcomes.

1:18
E5: Is sending your kid to school when they obviously have a cold a big deal? I mean, in this (Nor Cal) weather, don’t we all have a cold?

1:18
Eno Sarris: No fever, get going kiddo.

1:18
E5: Baseball is great, beer is good, and people are crazy.

1:18
v2micca: You mentioned Grienke’s learning curve for the slider in the desert, and we all know about the Coor’s field affect on curves. Other than giving up on breaking balls at home, what options are viable for Pitchers in these situations?

1:18
Eno Sarris: More spit? Moving to the cutter?

1:18
Nelson: don’t forget Angry Chair in Tampa.

1:18
Beer fan: What are your top 3 NEIPAs?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Trillium, Tree House, Fieldwork.

1:19
PF: What do you make of the Blue Jays rotation? PECOTA has them primed for A LOT of regression….. do you agree with that?

1:20
Eno Sarris: They have a weird collection of pitchers that projection systems won’t like, but have proven themselves at least over the last few years. Happ’s two very-different fastballs, Estrada’s high-spin curve, and Sanchez’ unliftable sinker are possibly projection breakers. I sometimes think that one great pitch can do that.

1:20
JP: Went looking for beer for Super Bowl, local market had 15 packs of Founders All Day for $15. WINNING!

1:20
JP: I notice your sandwiches often have fruit in them. Is it the sweetness you are looking for?

1:21
Eno Sarris: I want sweet, bitter, crunchy, soft, spicy/vinegar in some sort of combination in all my sandos.

1:21
Philip Christy: Are you getting any Pliny the Younger this year?

1:21
Eno Sarris: Tomorrow! It’s a big old Triple IPA that reminds me of Hopslam in ways good and bad.

1:21
Guest: what is your favorite Craft Pilsner? I love Prima Pils from Victory but would like to try other.

1:22
Eno Sarris: Pivo from Firestone Walker, Scrimshaw, but the very favorite is Pinkus Ur-Pils, and you can get that at Bevmo.

1:22
Dr. Love: Just call me.

1:22
J. Peterman: I live in the northeast and have accumulated 3 full inches of snow since this chat started.

1:22
The Toe: IPA’s are one of man’s worst creations. You won’t convince me otherwise.

1:23
Snoop: Well here’s a jimmy joke about your momma that you might not like…

1:23
Eno Sarris: my response

1:23
Matt: Save this one for the outterlude

1:23
Terrible Ted: Otani 2018?

1:24
Eno Sarris: could be, but rules have made things tough.

1:25
Jake: Wei-Yin Chen…. continuing disaster? post hype snoozer? better than…. kyle Gibson? Gio Gonzalez? Martin Perez?

1:25
Eno Sarris: Chen over all of those guys.

1:25
botchatheny: reporting at a gala, eh? are you the type to wear sneakers with a suit?

1:25
Eno Sarris: f a suit

1:25
Eno Sarris: oh man I gotta go

1:25
Eno Sarris: thanks for coming!
