Eno Sarris: Feliz. The closer gets more chances than a guy in a crowded pen that might be the setup guy or might be a roogy.

It seems like a lot of talk about Anthony Rizzo’s breakout is because he figured out lefties last year. How do we know that he actually figured them out and it wasn’t just a fluky year?

Eno Sarris: Look back to 2013 and see that his peripherals against lefties were fine. He struck out and walked at reasonable rates, just had a terrible BABIP. Then last year his BABIP was more normal and he was fine. He’s fine against lefties.

Eno Sarris: LABR drafts early so it can serve as a guide to everyone. I paid $20 in an AL-only and will get that money back in FAAB so I’m rooting HARD CORE for a Hamels trade.

Eno, my first ever auction draft is this weekend. Any tips?

Eno Sarris: Use your value sheet almost as a ranking sheet once the auction gets going. In other words, don’t pass on *every* top 15 player just because they all go for more than your sheet. Go get a guy ranked 10-15 on your sheet and try to get him for less of an overpay. You have to buy into the top players. Then you’ll start to see patters versus your sheet. If it’s an only league, make sure you have good lists of who’s available so you’re still on top of it by the end.

Eno Sarris: Maybe Goldschmidt, based on drafts. I like going for Tulo if it’s a shallower league roto, you’ll always have an Aybar when he’s hurt. If it’s H2H or deeper, maybe Altuve. higher floor, more health.

So I lost Stroman for the year – so my avg rotation just got worse – who should I target with this rotation: Sale, Wood, Hughes, Bailey, Kazmir. It is definitely light in my league (bottom 3 rotation) – Ideally someone equal to wood.

Eno Sarris: I think that rotation is good. Just add quantity at the bottom off the waiver wire. I dunno who’s out there.

Eno, really really enjoy your work, but i have a question about one method of analysis that bothers me a bit. I’ve seen you pump Anthony DeScalafani as a guy w/ three pitches to start. DeSclafani threw a grand total of 34 changeups per brooks last year. How can we learn anything from that sample when the scouting consensus seems to be he doesnt have a good changeup? (klaw called him a one pitch guy w/ command, fwiw) Is there some other info on which your basing your assessment of him or do you think that’s a reliable sample size? Again, really enjoy your work.

Eno Sarris: when I talk about DeSclafani’s change, I don’t talk about his results because yes, he threw 34. But you know what you can tell from 34 changeups? The shape. The velocity. His change has three inches more drop than the average change, two inches more fade, and the ten mph gap you like to get. Plus he improved it in the fall league. It’s a good pitch. Keith is great, he’s smart, we don’t always have to agree.

Eno Sarris: Three or four relievers (maybe one SP/RP). I’d go to maybe eight or nine starters. I love quantity. Bench bats are so meh.

Thanks re: Greene. We always talk about how injury prone pitchers are. Does that mean be averse to spending a lot on pitchers, or load up on them as a precaution? One league I’m in, everyone seems to be loading up, and I feel like I can capitalize on it if I trade some of my pitching, but I also am unsure if I then put myself at risk of “random pitcher death.” Thanks Eno!

How old were you when you transitioned from crap to craft beer?

Eno Sarris: Well I had Sierra a bunch in college, but when I moved out of manhattan and stopped having to deal with lines at bars — I got hard liquor then because when am I going to get to the front of the bar again — I started drinking craft. So really not that long. 32 or so.

Eno Sarris: I don’t like Rubby’s delivery, so I think I’m out on him. I think Chase can be an SP2/3. Webster has the stuff to be an ace, but bottom tier command and terrible mound presence. Bradley has the presence, but badd command and change. I really like Braden Shipley.

Eno Sarris: An imperial stout. A regularly available one like Old Rasputin is fine. If you got a coffee one, might hit it out of the park. The local place here uses nitro stouts for less foam, so Guinness would work in a pinch.

Hey Eno, I love your chats and this is my first question. I drafted Addison Russell and Corey Seager back to back in my draft, the rules are eight keepers and only eligible if kept or drafted. Are either looking like good 2016 bets? Also, I traded my prized Yellich for Kolten Wong, both are good but I absolutely love Wong at 2B, thoughts on his production going forwards and fantasy ranking among 2B? Thanks!

Eno Sarris: both should be up by 2016. Russell is great, really like him, but Seager better fantasy upside. Big fan of Wong, that high leg kick is providing the power we weren’t sure he’d provide.

Hi a kind of long question but i would be really thankful for an answer, I live in sweden but i´m planning to study and play college baseball in the US, I´m looking for a school right now but for some reason i´ve heard that its not possible for me to join a d1 or d2 team because i´m 20 years old (in other words its been more then 1 year since i was in high school). Is this true? and if so should i try to join a d3 team, NAIA team or a junior college in california? I´m looking for a place thats the most competitive and trains the most (also i´ve heard that d3 doesn’t practice as much as d1,d2 true or false). Thanks in advance

For wild/spontaneously fermented beers…why don’t bad bacteria or fungus ever get in the wort? and are good bacteria/fungus just hanging around waiting for wort to be open to the air and they’re all “time to get to work making tasty beer”

Eno Sarris: I think once upon a time, brewers opened up the wort and did it that way, but now things are much more precise. Goose Island brewers told me that Matilda was made by opening the doors in Chicago and letting Brett in off the wind, but the yeast guy at White Labs sorta scoffed at that idea. Said 99.9% of the stuff in the air is trash.

sour beer: pH and alcohol take care of a lot of the bad stuff you don’t want. most “spontaneously fermented” beers aren’t done that way (even though a lot of Belgian breweries claim they do), they use house cultures living in the barrels/foeders. some still use coolships or other means to introduce other truly wild cultures as well but most get out-competed by the house strains.
