I expect Koji to be hurt or ineffective for much of the upcoming season. I picked up Tazawa at my auction with that in mind, and yet I see most saying that Mujica will be first in line to take over. Eno Sarris: I think we’re looking at four guys with 400+ PA. Dunno who will stay healthy, but considering Victorino and Rusney and Hanley have all had health issues, you might bet on Betts to be the guy with 550.

Considering that the Pitt stadium has a propensity to suppress right handed power – and considering FG has done a piece on this already kind of: do you think that it’s fair to say Gregory Polanco is primed to actually be a BETTER Marte? Eno Sarris: Not crazy. Not crazy at all. Polanco didn’t hit the ball hard last year, but in my estimation it was a strong debut considering his age.

Eno Sarris: Might push that homer total down to 12, batting average down to .280, if we talking floor. Ceiling is pretty close to what you’re talking too, probably .300/15/30. Nice projectable dude if you ask me.

Asked Kiley on tuesday about Pompey’s MILB OBP vs his predicted MLB OBP which was much lower and he said part of it was due to AVG regression. So how can we predict future players who continue to have good OBP even with AVG regression?

For DFS what are some of the best stats to look for? Would comparing pitch values be effective?

Eno Sarris: I don’t love pitch values, but you can see if certain hitters have good contact rates against certain pitches in Brooks, that’s not a bad idea, considering they may face a guy like Masterson and be good against sinkers and sliders. But mostly I look at park, handedness, and quality of opposition.

Seems like Schoop is likely to beat out Everth for the 2B gig. How do you see it playing out in the end?

Eno Sarris: I think Everth will be useful this year. Hardy’s back is balky, Machado with the knee, Buck can use a good Flaherty type to spell everyone. Plus, if Schoop gets to MLB games and doesn’t do better than last year, he could lose the job. I’ll keep Everth’s projection hovering around 400-450 PA.

Eno Sarris: Arm/wrist injuries are worse for hitters than leg injuries, so legitimate concern. Plus, Taylor is a righty at the plate, so his upside could be lower than lefty Miller’s. Miller was supposedly in the plan for outfield work at some point, so not crazy.

i asked szym about this on monday, but i really hate rounds 4-6 (ESPN). the starters in that tier are mostly overrated and i’m against getting an OF before the 7th because the position is loaded from then on (none of my leagues are 5OF). is it ok to reach for a guy like arenado or yelich or harvey here?

Eno Sarris: Use my rankings, I bet you’ll find starters there that don’t seem as overrated. That’s where I’m picking pitching. I have Harvey 12th, and I love Arenado, so those would be fine though.

Eno Sarris: No thanks on catcher prospects in fantasy. They can work out and still suck in fantasy. I like the close pitchers for sure. Matz and Gonzales… Finnegan, whoever’s there. Matz first.

Eno Sarris: Good news for Cecil. You’ll still see Norris. Typical sixth starter gets at least ten starts if I remember correctly. He could get more, considering the age at the front of that rotation, and Sanchez’s possibility of cratering.

Eno Sarris: The consensus is that he won’t be the Sale replacement. So either he’s the #4 or he’s in the minors. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s at least in the minors for the first couple of weeks.

Eno Sarris: Liked the oppo homer, don’t love all the Ks, still like the swing and the approach and think there’s opportunity for him. Getting a lot of playing time, and I think he’ll start to get adjusted soon.

So I have a question about an idiosyncratic redraft league I’m joining. 10 team mixed. 1 of every position and a UTIL. 1400 Innings Pitched limit. 5 player bench. Here’s where it gets weird: normal 5 categories for hitters plus K’s and OPS. Normal 5 for pitchers plus Complete Games. How would you adjust your strategy? Load up on power bats and risky pitchers who strike out a lot? How should I take hitter K’s into the equation? And can one bet on Complete Games? I’d really like advice, it seems like an interesting challenge.

Eno Sarris: Ignore complete games completely. Sort for ISO and look for Pujols types at the top of your rounds, but don’t worry too much about batter Ks.

Eno Sarris: Tough one. Greene has the velocity, but without knowing more about that change, a possibly incomplete arsenal. Chase is in the NL, but a tougher park. After watching Greene the other day, I’m thinking maybe Greene. But a tough one.

I think they said last year they like to use Tazawa in any high leverage situation, not save him for the 9th. I would say Mujica is next as closer.

Eno Sarris: Velocity and strikeout rate have been the best predictors of closer change I’ve seen, plus current role. If they using Tazawa in the eighth and he still has more velo and Ks, I’d disregard a lot of what the manager is saying. Think of votes of confidence. They’re nails in the coffin.

Eno Sarris: Just to kill us fantasy people. I guess there’s the choice of 60-day versus regular DL they might get more information about in the short term. They want to keep all their roster spots flexible for as long as possible.

Eno Sarris: I don’t think he looks overmatched. I’m personally penciling him in for .260/20 if he can get the playing time. Looks good at short to me.

I am in a draft that auctions of the first pick with FAAB. We start with 1000, how much should I pay and why ?

Eno Sarris: Depends on your settings, but Trout is generally worth 3-5 bucks more than the second guy. I don’t know what people generally bid in your league, but that’s a big jump. If you take five bucks off the second guy, you drop to 10th.

Eno Sarris: Geueze. Wild Ale. Some called Fruit Beer. Some saisons, like the ones from Crooked Stave, are sour.

Eno Sarris: Look for barrel aged if you getting a saison, then it’s sour most likely.

Yelich’s penchant for hitting worm killers hinders him from a fantasy perspective. I don’t think the homers will ever be nearing 20…but he seems like the perfect 3rd OF.

Eno Sarris: People naturally hit more fly balls as they age. Look at Heyward, who burned worms at first. I think he’ll get there eventually.

Eno Sarris: Bruce’s problem seems less… chronic? Votto’s has been going on for a while. I like em both to bounce back this year. They didn’t play a full slate, Bruce’s stats were already normalizing late late last year, and they spent the offseason prepping with the knee in mind.

Do you have any advice for transferring from snake draft over to an auction? We’re about to start year 3. What’s the best way to assign values to our keepers? I want to be rewarded for my good late pickups the last couple years so I don’t think assigning current values is fair.

Eno Sarris: My advice is: start over. Really, it’ll hurt, but everything else will anger someone. Otherwise, you could just assign a dollar value to the round in which the were picked last year, but that’s a bit clunky.

Eno Sarris: Monkey Paw because they have a bunch of beers and it’s close to the airport. Stone Liberty Station is reasonably close, but only Stone beers. Great food though. If you went to Ballast Point Little Italy (also close), there’s Bottlecraft across the street for other beers, and good food. God I love San Diego.

Example 1st place in the batting order will steal 16.10% of the time and a guy hitting 7th will steal 5.20% (when on 1st or 2nd).. Sullivan is gone for a couple weeks so I can’t ask him, and I’m curious about your take – he wrote a piece in Dec. about Rios getting more inside FBs in 2014. In a similar piece on Pedroia, he hypothesized that Pedey’s thumb injury may have hampered his ability to turn on the inside heat and if off-season thumb surgery cured that problem, it is reasonable to expect more HRs from Pedey in 2015. Rios had a thumb injury in 2014 and off-season thumb surgery. Reasonable to hypothesize that Rios suffered the same issues as Pedey in 2014 and a power resurgence is on the horizon, or is his power decline more age related?

Eno Sarris: It’s possible, and Rios has had wild swings in power before. But! Yes, age is a huge factor here. He might be really close to done.

Re: TJ increases. I think the overtraining argument is flawed, but what about general physical fitness and training not being conducive for pitchers. when you lift weights its almost impossible to stay completely balanced, kid could grow up with a motion that after professional training it has a different strain on his ligaments, slowly weakens them and then boom snap. alot of these injuries happening in spring when they may take time off from pitching but are concerned about getting in “best shape of their life” which should/would change their motion.

Eno Sarris: Well shoulder injuries are down, and the shoulder is kept together mostly by muscles. So maybe there’s something here.
