Eno Sarris: be here at noon ET

12:01
Comment From Alex
I know you love Hutchison, but unless I’m missing something, he jumped over 100 innings last season. is that a concern?

12:01
Eno Sarris: When you have TJ, it’s inevitable. It’s not like a rookie going from 60 to 160.

12:01
Comment From Shawn
Thoughts on Kendall Graveman? The next Doug Fister?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Not a lot of Doug Fisters, so I’d rather I knew his stuff was good. I know his command is good, and the shape of his pitches look good in PFx, but he’s thrown two changeups. I’m going to wait to see more.

12:02
Comment From Shawn
How do you approach non-closing RPs in IP limits leagues? Would you only use 1-2 as they can’t a win/save unless they vulture one

12:02
Eno Sarris: If I have non-closing RP in a saves league, I want him to have a shot at saves. Why roster Tom Wilhelmsen, who’s probably third in line, when you can roster Adam Ottavino.

12:03
Comment From Bryan
I’ve got Kluber as my ace, would you take Alex Wood, deGrom or Arrieta as my second pitcher?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Wood vs DeGrom is like picking between my sons. I went with Wood recently because he was younger.

12:03
Comment From Clive
Betts or Springer for an OBP league?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Great question. Betts has higher floor, no doubt. But if it’s a 12-team OBP league, Springer has a higher ceiling, since has more power. Will he steal? Might reach for Springer here.

12:04
Comment From Stuck in a Slump
What are the odds that Cosart was just discussing his college bracket on twitter and that this all blows?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Well the conversation definitely blows. If it blows over, we’ll see.

12:04
Comment From Minty
Since it’s only ST, what can we take away from Rodon yesterday?

12:05
Eno Sarris: He can demolish major league hitters. They weren’t *all* ‘working on something.’

12:05
Comment From GBGB
Can CC Sabathia turn it around? His velocity is higher than last year.

12:05
Eno Sarris: I’m interested. Also, his knee is good, and his peripherals were actually decent last year.

12:05
Comment From Guest
Any idea why the Yankees and Red Sex project for roughly the same ROS War, 37.7 vs. 38.0, but POF odds project BOS for 5 more wins?

12:06
Eno Sarris: I dunno, I think there’s a strength of schedule component, so maybe the Sex play an easier interleague schedule?

12:06
Comment From GBGB
Who holds more value for the year: Odubel Herrera or Devon Travis? Why?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Well we just had Sex so let’s talk Doobies. Doobie has no power, Travis *could* have power, speed and patience. Travis for me.

12:07
Comment From zurzles
I have an H2H auction tonight and I’m having trouble with the calculator… it’s a points league that’s very lopsided in favor of pitchers (SPs are worth about twice as much in the calculator as hitters) but there’s a GS/week limit of 10. Is there some way to figure out how that alters values? if at all?

12:08
Eno Sarris: Hmm. Play around with the bench size (it’s not daily, so you could try zero bench), and the money allocated to pitching/hitting.

12:08
Comment From Dallas

Eno Sarris: oh man there are a lot of comments today

12:09
Comment From Minty
Theoretically, if Russell is as good defensively as advertised, can’t he help keep Bryant at third by covering his lack of range?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Sure. I think they try Bryant at third at least. Russell, oh man do I love him.

12:09
Comment From zurzles
John Jaso an acceptable starter in a points league with 1 catcher?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:10
Comment From Nolan H
You get one pitcher for 2015. Are you taking Cueto, Hamels, or Alex Wood?

12:10
Eno Sarris: Cueto

12:10
Comment From Greg
Eno, how do you rank these potential breakout pitchers: Hahn, Hutchison, Paxton, Walker? Thanks!

12:10
Eno Sarris: Hutch Paxton Walker Hahn, but I like em all, and this is just because Walker’s fiddling with his pitch mix. Which is a good thing.

12:10
Comment From Shawn
Based on early results it looks like USA Today is going to have Founders vs. Southern Tier in their craft beer bracket finals. What would be your final 4?

12:11
Eno Sarris: Stone, Maine, Cigar City, Russian River

12:11
Comment From JP
In a keeper league, when are keepers typically turned in? At the draft/auction? A few days before?

12:11
Eno Sarris: Few days before gives people prep time with knowledge of keepers.

12:11
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
In an All-time Fantasay draft, who would go #1??.. Assuming they are all playing in the same era and are all in their primes.

12:11
Eno Sarris: A-Rod’s best years?

12:12
Comment From Josh
What’s DeSclafani’s ceiling this year? He looked real good last night

12:12
Eno Sarris: I think he’s draftable in all leagues. Someone asked me about him vs Hughes and McCarthy, and no on Hughes, but maybe McCarthy.

12:12
Comment From Lenard
The ad on the right of the screen is asking me how likely I am to purchase SPAM in the next 30 days. Interesting.

12:12
Comment From Art Vandelay
Definitely not as good as Blue Chips, but damn good nonetheless.

12:12
Comment From Doug
12-team points league, 25 man rosters. I drafted Stroman AND Wheeler : (

12:12
Eno Sarris: Strange interlude.

12:13
Comment From pasquatchsociety
So I transformed my hated SP rotation I mentioned last chat into Paxton, McCarthy, Mchugh, House, Kelly, with some other junk sprinkled in. Got Thor and Meyer in the wings. Good enough SP to compete in 16 team mixed?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Getting there. Work the wire hard.

12:13
Comment From Greg
How come Quintana isn’t being valued much in fantasy? With an improved lineup/bullpen, his ability to keep the team in the game could mean quite a few more wins and a few less losses to go along with a solid era and k rate.

12:14
Eno Sarris: I dunno if there is an ability to keep the team in the game, but he’s a two-pitch pitcher that succeeds with great fastball command. I think maybe people are not whelmed when watching him, so that might be part of it. And if the velocity starts to drop off, I could see more homers. But for now, I agree, he’s underrated. With some risk.

12:15
Comment From Stuck in a Slump
Schoop posted an 8.2% BB rate in the minors, is there any chance that his refusal to take a walk was him just pressing at the plate last year? He’s still young enough to develop more discipline, right?

12:15
Eno Sarris: That’s true. He’s 23. I think K and BB generally improve to about 26. He might be better than I’ve thought.

12:15
Comment From Michael
I’ve got the 10th overall pick out of 12 teams. Am I crazy to go for Tulo?

12:15
Eno Sarris: In a 12-team league, the injury replacement for Tulo will be decent, making him a first-rounder, IMO.

12:15
Comment From jocephus

the anticipation of chat!

12:16
Comment From JP
How much would you pay for Patrick Corbin in an NL keeper auction? I’m thinking $5 (5×5, 11 teams)

12:16
Eno Sarris: I’d like to get him for 2-3 actually. Still some risk he doesn’t get the command back or the TJ fails.

12:16
Comment From Vic
Are you concerned with Stanton this season considering the beaning? Still a top 5 pick?

12:16
Eno Sarris: No

12:16
Comment From Franco
Whats the deal with J. D Martinez? i see people drafting jay bruce, alex gordon, injured hunter pence over him. Am i missing something? is martinez expected to regress alot? im ok with people hoping/speculatiing on bruce bounceback, but id still rather take my chances with martinez.

12:17
Eno Sarris: I think a good floor for JDM is .270/25. Bruce will hit more homers but with a worse BA, so yeah waiting and taking JDM seems like a good idea.

12:17
Comment From Beer Baron
Eno, what are some good sour beers that may be available on the east coast? Unfortunately we don’t see the Russian River or Firestone Walker beers out here (some FW, but it’s mostly their standard offerings and those are still difficult to find.

12:18
Eno Sarris: Well they costly but Goose Island Halia and Juliette are world class. Rodenbach is very accessible, but not my favorite. You might see some Drei Fonteinen or Cantillon, but the Lips of Faith series from New Belgium is good. I think Allegash has a couple sours.

12:19
Comment From Adam
will a staff of Bumgarner, Pineda, Eovaldi, Peavy, Greene, Hughes, McCarthy, Leake, Quintana, Chase Anderson, and TJ House be able to get me above average 5 SP slots in ottoneu?

12:20
Eno Sarris: I’d probably start with Bumgarner, Hughes, McCarthy, Quintana and rotate the last spot conservatively at first, but there’s enough upside to do well.

12:20
Comment From juan pierres mustache

12:21
Comment From pasquatchsociety
What are your thoughts on rostering RPs with SP eligibility? Is it worth the roster spots to stack holds/saves. I have Cingrani, Petit, and Montero specifically. Are they valuable enough to hold down the roster spots?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Three might be a bit much, but at least the second two could become SPs. If you have three SP/RPs, I’d hope you had three to five bench slots with SPs in them, for example.

12:22
Comment From Eric
From the AL, who do you think can be the next Betances/Davis/Miller? Do you think McAllister has a shot to be a dominate reliever if he is moved to the bullpen?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Yes I do! I forget what pitch it was, but I just saw that a secondary pitch of his looked good. The change, I think.

12:22
Comment From Phillip
What relievers should we be targeting that aren’t closers now but will be soon? I only have Benoit,

12:23
Eno Sarris: Ottavino. Giles, I guess, but dunno when Papelbon goes. I know people think it’s Mujica for Uehara, but I like Tazawa a little better. Evan Marshall in Arizona.

12:23
Comment From Vic
Please rank in terms of saves potential….Lindren, Burdi, Strickland, Maurer, Capps, Neil Ramirez.

12:23
Eno Sarris: Maurer, Strickland, Neil, Capps

Comment From juan pierres mustache
that almanac strawberry sour though. can A-B just buy all the breweries and ship their beer directly to my corner store

12:24
Eno Sarris: haha. I hope the Rodenbach brewer wasn’t talking trash on Almanac…

12:24
Comment From KB
Deep 16-team H2H league, daily lineups – What do you think of owning Gose/Rajai? Could you Frankenstein a Billy Hamilton out of them?

12:24
Eno Sarris: I can get behind Rajai completely. I wonder if there’s a higher-floor SB guy that you could platoon him with, though.

12:25
Comment From Adam
traded Hamels and D. Santana for Ozuna, Rusney, and McCarthy. did i do well?

12:25
Eno Sarris: It’s hard to trade pitching for hitting, and I love love Ozuna, so yeah.

12:26
Comment From Franklin
i really want to draft wacha in my dynasty league but i feel like garret richards may be the better choice? discuss…

12:26
Eno Sarris: I had em six apart, Wacha ahead, but that was when I thought Richards might miss a start or two. I really like em both, pick the guy you think will get more innings.

12:27
Comment From Mike wants wins
Brewery suggestion in either Eugene or Corvallis? (college visits with my son next week)

12:28
Eno Sarris: Ninkasi in Eugene, probably. Block 15 in Corvallis looks good, but little experience with them.

12:28
Comment From Guest
i want to bathe in the Fremont Sour Weisse w/ Cucumber

12:28
Eno Sarris: Sounds great.

12:28
Eno Sarris: Well, not the bathing part. The beer.

12:28
Comment From Allan
Alex Cobb-forearm tendonitis doesn’t correlate to TJ, right? How far should he be falling in the rankings?

12:28
Comment From Snid
!4th round and Alex Cobb is available. Take him or run (and get an IPA) ?

12:29
Eno Sarris: I’ll take him in the 14th. Not every forearm soreness turns into TJ.

At 37 years old. I will not have Beltre on any of my teams this year. Agree?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Wait, are you that old or… good god Beltre got old fast. Well I’d certainly rather have Donaldson, and the position is deep, so I guess yeah I won’t own him much either.

12:33
Comment From LarryA
Are all the Tout and Labr leagues free, bragging rights only? Whats your most expensive league?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Tout costs money, which I’m not thrilled about, considering I’m in an online snake draft league, which a) doesn’t have much to do with original TOUT and b) probably doesn’t need $100 each from the competitors. LABR is free, both are for bragging rights. Most of my leagues are 50-150.

12:34
Comment From Tony Cingrani
With the Reds coaching staff stating that Paul Maholm won’t be in the starting rotation, who takes on the bulk of the innings and how do you project that 5th starter spot playing out?

12:34
Eno Sarris: I’m thinking Raisel gets the first crack at the fifth spot. But I have no idea how he’s going to do!

12:34
Comment From Schiraldi
Roster Resource’s depth charts have Kipnis hitting seventh and platooning! I think the platoon is likely bunk, but possible Francona keeps Ramirez hitting second? Are you knocking Kipnis at all for lineup position, or assuming it pans out?

12:34
Eno Sarris: I’ll say no on both of those things.

12:34

Comment From harris
how early is too early to draft Rondon in a 13 team dynasty 7 keeper league

12:35
Eno Sarris: Anything earlier than the tenth, and you’ve done this year’s team a disservice.

12:35
Comment From Robin Yount
I’ve joined a dynasty league for the first time and I’m totally swamped by information. Give me one guiding principle.

12:35
Eno Sarris: Don’t get too into prospects. Young players, sure, but prospects will hurt your brain.

12:36
Comment From Bruce
Last week I was in SF with my family. I was able to break away from them for 1.5 hours total in 3 days. In that 1.5 hours, based on your advice I had a pint of Pliny, I pint of Alpine Nelson and 3 Cellarmaker beers. Howd I do?

Wait…Why couldn’t a professional baseball player bet on basketball or football?

12:37

12:38
Comment From Staff Sargent Max Fightmaster
Who will provide more fantasy value this year in a H2H league: Oswaldo Arcia or Avisail Garcia, and why?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Garcia because he has more tools and a better park.

12:38
Comment From Lenard
I’m doing a NFBC Express draft this Sunday. Any tips for this format? No trades, 50 man rosters.

12:38
Eno Sarris: you can’t tick to best player available too long without trades to help even out your team. keep close track of your categories.

12:38
Comment From Tristan
What do I do with Chris Owings? What are the Dbacks doing?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Unless I missed new news this morning, I don’t think Ahmed takes the job.

Semien or Odor?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Batting average league, Odor.

12:39
Comment From Bruce
Are you taking Sabathia over some upside rookie, like Tropeano or Descalfini?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Over Trop, don’t even know if he has a job yet. Probably over DeScla too, because CC has done it before.

12:39
Comment From Cory
Your Descalfini tweet last night, do Spring Training walks concern you at all? Would you now take him over Greene as a late pick based on what you’ve seen?

12:40
Eno Sarris: He’s right there with Greene, and I’m all about quantity, so I’d like you to get both guys. If I had to choose? Maybe DeScla because he’s in the NL.

12:40
Comment From xavier
Do you think Henderson Alvarez can make the jump to the next SP tier by adding Ks to his repertoire (he is young and does throw hard) or is 2014 about as good as we’ll see from him?

12:41
Eno Sarris: He may inch the K rate forward, but I think he’ll always be a mid-low tier SP with a low K rate.

12:41
Comment From Matt
True or false: Bruce Rondon will lead the Tigers in Saves by the end of the season and is closer by the ASB.

12:41
Eno Sarris: I mean true I like to think that. Soria is old, Al Al hasn’t ever gotten the chance, and Nathan looks busted.

12:41
Comment From juan pierres mustache
choosing between Alcantara and Lawrie as a bench/super sub in a daily league–either one allows me to sub out pretty much any of my starters. think Alcantara gets enough ABs to be worth it?

12:41
Eno Sarris: I’d rather have lawrie.

12:42
Comment From Cuban Missile Crisis
What happens to Roenis Ellias? Does JA Happ keep earning the role or does Paxton get hurt first?

12:42
Eno Sarris: I think eventually Happ pitches his way out.

12:42
Comment From KB
Any truth to Betances velocity being this bad this time last year too? Is that recorded anywhere?

12:42
Eno Sarris: I have seen guys I trust confirm that, but I dunno if I’ve seen it in print.

12:45
Comment From Larry David
Eno! No one wants my David Wright in a points league keeper! Which starters should I be targeting for him? Which shortstop? I have Russell and Correa but that’s not doing much for me this year. Seager @ 3B, Bryant in the minors.

12:45
Eno Sarris: hold as util until he gets some value back.

Eno Sarris: good god. 12:09.

What are your overall thoughts on A.J. Pollock?

12:46

TJ House – decent end of rotation starter in 16-team league?

12:50
Comment From Guest
Early in an auction how do you decide what players to throw out? Do you try to get a sleeper in early? Get big names/big $$ guys out of the way? I never know who to choose.

12:52
Eno Sarris: I *might* throw a few big money guys I don’t want, but sometimes I do that later when I’m trying to set up getting a sleeper cheap. I didn’t have the money for Choo late last night, so I threw him, and ended up getting Matt Joyce, Michael Saunders and Travis Snider for a buck each to man LF later in draft. But early on, I throw the big name guys to see where the market is set. I want to get the first rounder that costs closest to my values, since so many first rounders cost more than my value set indicates.

The All-time Fantasay draft question: has to be Ruth right? MAYBE Bonds.

Quintana? Eight year olds, Dude.

12:54
Comment From Clive
So is the generalization of that go for floor in deep leagues and ceiling in shallow ones? It’s a very deep league.

12:54
Eno Sarris: I think so, generally I like to think of things that way. But when you get to the bench, it’s all about ceiling everywhere.

12:54
Comment From Guest

Comment From Adam Warren Piece
Just read your Adam Warren piece. (War and Peace?) Got my juices flowing. Where would you slot him in AL Only ranks?

12:55
Eno Sarris: The frigging depth charts broke my filter and yeah 1600 words on Warren is crazy, but it happened. I wish I had done that before LABR, because I’d own him. I’d spend as much as $5, so right below Greene and those guys.

12:55

I might be doing something wrong, but when I go to the Rotographs page, all the positional rankings and draft tools are for last season. What am I missing?

Yeah, what’s wrong with Cosart betting on basketball? Seems legit.

1:01
Eno Sarris: I mean if it’s a frigging pool I hope this dies quickly. But regular betting with a bookie might mean a bookie owns a major league pitcher at some point. I guess. Legalize it, and then there’s no frigging problems.

what’s the most remote place you’ve ever been

Eno Sarris: Tongue, Scotland probably.

Keep 2 for this year only – $17 Gomez, $8 Soler, $3 Bryant. Help me Eno, you’re my only hope!

1:49
Eno Sarris: This year only? Gomez and Soler.

so are you all aboard the vance worley getting fixed by searage and being super relevant train?

1:50
Eno Sarris: I know that the research shows that called strikes are about as sticky as swinging strikes, but I’m more into swinging strikes.

How much do you think Kang plays? Took him in the last round of my draft and I’m thinking about cutting him loose for Alcantra, Baez, or Gennett.

1:51
Eno Sarris: If those are your options, I’d hold. I wish we were talking now about him taking the job from Mercer, but I’d like to see a week of regular season games.

Disappointed in Wed Tilliams not going for the full on wordplay and just saying “help me eno you’re my only hope” instead of “help me eno-wan kenobi, you’re my only hope”

Comment From Morneau or Belt in a pts league?
Willy Peralta or TJ House in a pts league as a late rd pick? Thanks!

Eno Sarris: House.

Eno Sarris: If you looking at my rankings and wondering why not higher, that was when I thought Floyd was beating him out for the rotation….

Actually southern New Zealand looks a ton like the Highlands; that may or may not be why it’s full of ppl of Scottish ancestry.

1:52
Eno Sarris: I actually thought it looked like Hawaii when I was there, because for some reason it was 80 and sunny that day.

Can you offer some brief advice for someone doing a daily league for the first time (I’ve always been a weekly guy)? H2H. Thank you!

1:52
Eno Sarris: Platoon guys are more interesting now, and you can devalue top pitchers a bit because you can/should have a really deep pitching bench (use them on good matchups).

1:53
Eno Sarris: Crap. Gotta go run some medicine to my kid before lunch. See you guys next week! Good luck in your drafts!

Hello! I’m a fantasy owner in a very deep 15 team auction keeper league with 30 roster spots per team. I got Addison Russel with the hope that he may see regular at bats as early as opening day 2016, and possibly even at some point in 2015. When do you think he’ll make his debut, and where? Seeing as how SS, 3B and 2B appear to be occuppied (unless Bryant moves to the OF or Baez continues to strikeout in half of his at bats). Thanks!
