Eno Sarris Baseball Chat – 4/17/04
| 11:47 |
: Will be here at top of hour. In the meantime
|
| 11:47 |
:
|
| 11:47 |
: Never thought I’d like a Buddy Holly cover.
|
| 12:01 |
Do you believe in Neil Walker’s recent power surge, or should I drop him when Reyes comes of the DL? |
| 12:01 |
: I’ll take the ZiPs RoS (17 HR more) over Steamer (12 HR). 20 HR, career high, modest, sounds right.
|
| 12:01 |
Think Santos will keep the job when Janssen comes of the DL? |
| 12:02 |
: Well now Janssen’s back hurts and he’s had a set back. The way I’ll say it is this: I’ll take Santos’ saves total over Janssen’s. CJ may get job back for a second, but Santos eventually.
|
| 12:02 |
Any Opinion on when we might see Alex Guerraro up with the Dodgers and is he worth a stash in a keeper league? |
| 12:03 |
: Eh, I’m not that into him. Pull power righty with undetermined platoon splits… .250/20 seems about his ciling.
|
| 12:03 |
You’re forced to jettison one of these 1Bs, who do you choose? Chris Davis, Rizzo, Hosmer. Dynasty OBP league. |
| 12:03 |
: Wait for Hoz to heat up, toast him.
|
| 12:03 |
Eno: 2 questions, (1) what’s your read on the Dodgers OF — particularly Crawford/Kemp — what are their 2014E stats and (2) if you were looking for saves on the waiver wire, what set up men will find themselves closing by the end of the month? |
| 12:04 |
: I guess they’ll keep all four and just rotate, effectively burning their respective fantasy upsides. I’m looking at Kyle Farnsworth suddenly, he was used in a tight game, is up to 94 on the gun, no need to make Germen or Familia expensive.
|
| 12:04 |
Prefer Archie bradley or Gregory Polanco as a bench spot? |
| 12:05 |
: Bradley has to be closer, but I’m worried about his command. Upside and bust rates belong with Polanco.
|
| 12:05 |
Thoughts on Tyler Skaggs? Seems like he’s had two bad innings that have really hurt him, but other than that, how are we feeling about him after 3 starts? |
| 12:05 |
: I like the velocity, the curve is better than it’s ever been because of it, but the change is worse than I thought it would be. He’s okay. Rosterable in almost any league, not sure he’ll be a top 40 starter.
|
| 12:05 |
So seem to be higher on Braun than most: my Braun/Aramis/Sonny for Miggy/C Gomez (OPS 6th cat)? Seems too easy… |
| 12:05 |
: I’d do that.
|
| 12:06 |
have been offered Wil Myers for Springer in redraft. I feel like I should take it, but am having a hard time talking myself out of Myers’ obvious struggles – shades of Lawrie for me, who I kept after a promising half-season his rookie year and held stubbornly for too long. Should i just get over myself and accept this trade? |
| 12:07 |
: Very interesting. Myers is currently striking out about a quarter of the time, which is maybe a best-case scenario for Springer. He was a higher-rated prospect, but he doesn’t have speed. I’d fall back on pedigree and take Myers still.
|
| 12:07 |
Hey Eno. Thanks for doing the chat today! Is it crazy to think that Kouzmanoff could stick around after Beltre comes back and share the DH duties with Moreland? |
| 12:07 |
: Not crazy, but you better be in a deep league.
|
| 12:07 |
Start Edinson vs Milwaukee tonight? |
| 12:07 |
: I’m not.
|
| 12:08 |
Do I stick things out with Brad Miller or take a jump on Jimmy Rollins/Alexei Ramirez? |
| 12:09 |
: Tough one, seems like your replacement level is decently high and Miller is K’ing while Rollins is not. I’d probably stick with Miller but I’ve been known to love youth a bit much.
|
| 12:10 |
Eno, what’re your thoughts on holding onto Calhoun with no DL spot. And what’re your thoughts on Bauer? Seems he may have the control issue….under control? |
| 12:10 |
: Gotta hold Calhoun as long as possible. I mean, he doesn’t have top top upside, but .270/20/20 type upside isn’t droppable in most leagues. Bauer does seem better off, and has three (at least) pitches and velocity. He’s got enough upside to matter in mixed leagues.
|
| 12:10 |
Just wishful thinking holding onto AJ Burnett at this point? Between the age, poor defense, and hernia, what can we really expect? |
| 12:12 |
: His velocity and swinging strikes are down to career lows and he’s saying he’s hurt. That said, he had the same babib last year and was good. I’d watch his velocity and swinging strikes more than anything over the next couple of games, his upside is obviously rosterable and it’s not like homers are flying out the yard.
|
| 12:13 |
Hey Eno! In a dynasty league, am I crazy to not want to give up Sonny Gray, Pedroia, and my first draft pick for Kipnis? I could keep Kip until he retires. |
| 12:13 |
: If you’re competitive now, that’s a decent pitcher and a top-three 2B, that’s a lot to give up. but if you’re not a top contender, I’d jump.
|
| 12:13 |
Can Andrew Cashner keep pitching so well with such a low swinging strike rate? He has good movement on his 2 seamer and has great control, but batters aren’t swinging and missing through that pitch. |
| 12:14 |
: The slider and change are still really good, so he can get the swinging strike when he needs it. I think he’s filth. Love.
|
| 12:14 |
Hey Eno, what are your top 5 IPAs on the market currently? Looking for some suggestions for the weekend. |
| 12:16 |
: The top ones on BeerGraphs are almost all hard to find or seasonal. I suppose you might find Pliny the Elder, Zombie Dust if you live in the right places. If you’d rather have an IPA instead of a DIPA, I love love 75 minute from Dogfish Head, I think that’s around now. You know what, filter this for where you are from. Beer is so regional. http://beergraphs.com/leade…
|
| 12:16 |
Can we start calling Josh Donaldson “Duck Donaldson”? It rolls nicely and his haircut is forcing my hand… |
| 12:16 |
: wow, that’s really not that bad. Better than “JD”
|
| 12:17 |
Need to start one of these 3 players, who would you start? CC Sabbathia against TB, Danny Salazar against DET, or Jered Weaver against DET? Bonus question: should I drop CC for any of: Scott Feldman, Garrett Richards, Mark Buehrle? BONUS BONUS QUESTION: which one should I pick up based on pure upside: Brian Dozier, Adam Laroche, Mike Morse, Dustin Ackley, Angel Pagan, Khris Davis |
| 12:17 |
: Still Salazar for me, though Miggie seems to know how to handle him. I still wouldn’t drop CC if those are your options. Dozier or Davis, depending on the state of your IF/OF.
|
| 12:18 |
Is Khris Davis broken? Should I try to sell him now or stick it out? |
| 12:18 |
: I don’t think so. Spraying line drives, and power takes the longest to stabilize.
|
| 12:18 |
/runs down street fully nude carrying a banner that reads GEORGE SPRINGER and awakens all the neighbors by yelling SPRING-ER! SPRING-ER! over and over |
| 12:18 |
I’m a Cubs fan who’s H2H opponent started Tanaka and Pineda yesterday. Thinking of jumping. |
| 12:18 |
my favorite part of that Brad Miller play, and all similar plays, is how it makes the whole room gasp in terror as it unfolds. |
| 12:19 |
: well done. Really well done.
|
| 12:19 |
: Your reward is something that sounds almost exactly like Brian Eno but is not Brian Eno.
|
| 12:19 |
:
|
| 12:20 |
Marcus Stroman had a great start last night in AAA – when would you expect him to get the call? |
| 12:20 |
: Considering he’s probably next in line behind Breakable Dustin McGowan, can’t be too long.
|
| 12:20 |
Buy low targets? |
| 12:20 |
: homer bailey
|
| 12:20 |
Is Rendon everything you thought he’d be and more so far this year? |
| 12:21 |
: So in love. I think the walk rate can still go up as the BABIP goes down.
|
| 12:21 |
It’s April but have the past two starts increased Yordano’s value? What SP tier would you place him with going forward? |
| 12:22 |
: Yeah he’s Helium Incarnate. I think I was a little too worried about the offspeed stuff and should’ve just looked at the gun. Also, the change is now getting 18% whiffs, which is great. Curve gets grounders. It’s all there except maybe a tiny whiff of long-term issues.
|
| 12:22 |
Eno! No one seems to have more name puns for their name than you. Which ones are your favorite? |
| 12:22 |
: Bubbly Bubbly Bubbly ENO
|
| 12:22 |
:
|
| 12:22 |
: Not a pun. I don’t care.
|
| 12:22 |
Hi Eno, what percentage of your bench players do you normally reserve for positional players vs pitchers. H2H, 5×5. Thanks! |
| 12:23 |
: 80% pitchers.
|
| 12:23 |
ENO!!! I have a random question for you. Let’s say a reliever comes in to pitch the 9th with a 5-run lead. He gives up a two-out single. Runner takes second on fielder’s indifference. Another single drives home the runner. Next guy strikes out to end the inning. Does the reliever get charged with an earned run, even though the runner wouldn’t have scored without the fielder’s indifference? Thanks for clearing this up for me! |
| 12:23 |
: I say yes. It’s still his runner.
|
| 12:23 |
Ph-ENO-m………. |
| 12:23 |
Party like it’s ’04! |
| 12:23 |
I just dropped Santos today in anticipation of Janssens return. How stupid should I feel |
| 12:23 |
: shared for the handle.
|
| 12:23 |
Cause for concern with William Myers? Look to sell him or hold on to him till he straightens it out? Dont believe in sophmore slumps do yah? |
| 12:24 |
: Only thing that worries me is his higher K and swSTR percentages, but I never thought he’d be a great batting average guy. Power will come.
|
| 12:24 |
Re; Stabilization rates discussed on the podcast, what do we make of Verlander’s slow start to K people? |
| 12:25 |
: More time before we believe. Still has strong swSTR if not as good as before. Velocity still within range of last year.
|
| 12:25 |
there is an emerald ash borer that is destroying all the ash trees….soon there will be no more wood bats. The bug is being propagated by soccer hooligans. True or False? |
| 12:26 |
: CONSPIRACY
|
| 12:26 |
I just traded Zack Wheeler for Andrelton Simmons…I was desperate for a SS. Hope I don’t regret it. |
| 12:26 |
: Contact rate is the closest thing to stable on the hitter side, other than GB/FB. So, yeah, I kinda DO love what Simmons is doing this year. Think he can maybe .280/20 this year.
|
| 12:27 |
What SP that went undrafted are really as good as their results so far? |
| 12:28 |
: Mejia, Skaggs (looks at preseason SP ranks), Ventura, Keuchel, Richards, Peralta.
|
| 12:28 |
Encouraged by Shelby miller’s last start? |
| 12:28 |
: I wasn’t ever that worried.
|
| 12:29 |
Hey Eno! Some reliever advice, please! I can add one of Daniel Webb, Germen, Qualls or Bass – based on your Saves & Steals columns those all seem like not-terrible adds at this point, but who first? |
| 12:29 |
: Farnsworth worries me on Germen, as does arb money. Qualls and Bass are in a poop show. I’m adding Webb, I guess.
|
| 12:29 |
Make Jason Heyward do something. Thanks. |
| 12:29 |
: Pokes Jason Heyward.
|
| 12:29 |
Is it sad that I’m benching Billy Butler in favor of Adam Dunn? |
| 12:30 |
: Just don’t drop him.
|
| 12:30 |
I need to clear the record Eno. Last week on this chat I was accused of using another handle to promote myself. I believe the handle was Rated Rookie (Perhaps Rated R Rookie) not sure, but he complimented me and my skills in this arena we call a chat. This was not I. Let the record show that people like me and I do not need to falsely promote myself by resorting to such tactics. |
| 12:30 |
Please rank Kennedy, Hudson, skaggs, and mejia, for fantasy purposes. Thinking Kennedy as my top option? |
| 12:30 |
: You know right now, when they are all healthy, I’ll take Mejia. Over the season long, maybe Hudson. Skaggs medium between now and longterm. Can’t find a way to make Kennedy the best option though.
|
| 12:31 |
|
| 12:31 |
: Weirdly sexual, but RIP.
|
| 12:31 |
Are there 3 players you are giving up on at this point? Still too early? |
| 12:31 |
: I just dropped Rex Brothers.
|
| 12:31 |
Hosmer vs. Belt – Who do you prefer in fantasy ROS and who has greater long-term value? |
| 12:31 |
: I believe in Belt’s power upside more and obviously neither is going to keep stealing a ton of bases as they age.
|
| 12:32 |
Valverde was just dropped. Pick him up for Shawn Kelley, Hector Rondon, Mark Melancon? |
| 12:32 |
: Maybe not. That was a terrible appearance, and he’s very borderline.
|
| 12:32 |
: If you do… Melancon. Grilli okay for now.
|
| 12:32 |
are you at all concerned with Chris Carters lackluster start and should I be? |
| 12:33 |
: I am, mostly because of lack of PA. If they end up platooning him, he’ll be a vLHP guy and woof.
|
| 12:33 |
What does Joc Pederson need to do to get called up? Just wait for an injury? |
| 12:33 |
: Trade?
|
| 12:33 |
do u have any feel for Reddick? I need power and he is available–does chip in with steals……reaching deep–its him or ozuna |
| 12:33 |
: Kinda like Ozuna better. That upper cut swing is just never going to give you a good BA in batting average leagues.
|
| 12:33 |
Watching Werth’s HR last night got me wondering if MLBAM’s new system could be used in replay for situations like that. Could it also predict whether the catch would have been made? |
| 12:34 |
: Baseball really doesn’t want to get in the business of determining what could have happened. Look at what happens with batter interference and stealing second — guy goes back to first no matter what. Only time they try to guess is on ground-rule doubles and sending the guy back to third, but that’s even got rules.
|
| 12:34 |
Jim Johnson getting the next save opp in OAK? |
| 12:35 |
: Yeah I think he’ll be back in the seat quickly. Gregerson has long been a setup guy for a reason. Managers don’t like to see 88s in the ninth.
|
| 12:35 |
Thoughts on wily peralta? |
| 12:36 |
: Good stuff. Upside a little mitigated by lack of Ks, but velocity, GBs, ok enough Ks, just some command issues on the slider sometimes will lead to some HRs.
|
| 12:36 |
Thoughts on Tillman? Is this a mirage? |
| 12:36 |
: I think the homers will come, but he’ll be a borderline mixed leaguer when all is said and done.
|
| 12:36 |
Who has best chance at sustained high K/9 rate with 60-80 innings and outside shot at saves? Webb, Tazawa, Thornburg, Withrow Txs!! |
| 12:36 |
: Tazawa. Love him.
|
| 12:36 |
Who’s the minor leaguer to stash now that Springer is in the majors? |
| 12:37 |
: Polanco. Don’t know when he’ll be up, but Snider is doing about as well as could be expected and it’s not whelming. So, soon, I bet, and with his bb/k, he actually could hit the ground running.
|
| 12:37 |
: Full of cliches today.
|
| 12:37 |
Any idea when Baez will be up? I have S. Castro as well. Castro is hitting well, will that delay Baez being brought up or will be play another position? Thanks! |
| 12:38 |
: I think Baez will be delayed either by Castro or by his own glove at SS. Not sure he makes an impact in fantasy this year.
|
| 12:38 |
With Calhoun out for a bit, do I drop him and ride Leonys & Billy in my OF over Castellanos & Billy? |
| 12:39 |
: You might be able to drop him if you have that option. Leonys v RHP, Billy v LHP, Castellanos if both are facing wrong side.
|
| 12:39 |
Hey Eno, question…was offered Ervin Santana and Kyle Seager for Homer Bailey and Carlos Martinez in my 11-team, 5×5? Should I believe in Santana’s early season success and jump on this? |
| 12:39 |
: no
|
| 12:40 |
: I mean I like Erv, but Bailey is better.
|
| 12:40 |
take springer 10 times out of 10. power speed undeniable |
| 12:40 |
: K% might mean a .230 BA or a return to minors.
|
| 12:40 |
Our guy Joey Votto is starting to destroy baseballs. I love watching him hit! It seems he is back to his old self and he usually doesn’t start too well in April. |
| 12:40 |
: Knee must feel good.
|
| 12:40 |
2014 Cespedes…more like the the 2012 version or 2013? Have to pick one or the other. |
| 12:41 |
: Actually like his new contact rate. Hopefully the power comes and the new swing isn’t too unfriendly to power. i’d buy.
|
| 12:41 |
Hi Eno, Belt off to a great start. Do you see this as him taking a sustainable leap this year or should I sell high? |
| 12:42 |
: I think he could hit .275 with 25 homers this year, which is a big leap but might also be a little worse than people think.
|
| 12:42 |
Are you falling for the trap that is Edinson Volquez or will you embrace it? Better than Skaggs and Mejia? |
| 12:42 |
: no
|
| 12:42 |
Have you had a chance to watch the Cubs TV broadcast? They’ve been doing a great job of bringing stats into their commentary. Last night they explained via BABIP and batted ball profile why Emilio Bonifacio was not expected to be very good the rest of the season. |
| 12:42 |
: They’re great, have been for a while.
|
| 12:42 |
BJ Upton, |
| 12:42 |
: fart balloon
|
| 12:42 |
Have your thoughts on Goydd Jerko this year changed? |
| 12:43 |
: Great handle. Not too much. I always worred about the Ks, but I think some more BBs coming hopefully. Power takes forever and peaks in August.
|
| 12:43 |
Time to give Volquez a spin in 10 team mixed? My rotation is dreadful. |
| 12:43 |
: No
|
| 12:43 |
Is Nick Franklin a mixed-leaguer? How about as a bench guy? |
| 12:44 |
: As an upside play perhaps. Trade or stealing Miller’s job has to be considered a possibility as much as nobody thinks Franklin is an SS and they said he could play in the OF.
|
| 12:44 |
Bj Upton, Venable and Masterson, Willy Peralta on waivers. Which hitter and pitcher to pick up if any? |
| 12:44 |
: Peralta and Venable. Venable useful v RHP, especially away from home.
|
| 12:44 |
Danny Salazar? I have read the articles, but does he seem like a buy low? Would a swap of Roark and Butler be too much for Salazar? |
| 12:44 |
: I would do that thing.
|
| 12:44 |
You like sours? Wicked Weed is building a new brewery in Asheville strictly for sours. So exciting |
| 12:45 |
: Great! Just had a Russian River Consecration and a GI Juliet this weekend. Love em.
|
| 12:45 |
What’s the deal with the Orioles and Kevin Gausman? (said in a Jerry Seinfeld voice) |
| 12:45 |
: Waiting for them to give up on an SP. I guess Gausman’s a bit wild in Triple-A right now. I think the cream will rise. (gross?)
|
| 12:45 |
Quick follow-up — what can I expect from Sabathia this year? Will he be a top-tier pitcher? |
| 12:46 |
: No. I think he can still be useful, but the velocity is never coming back and the bite is going too.
|
| 12:46 |
Danny Salazar was dropped in my league – is he a must-add? |
| 12:46 |
: Yes
|
| 12:46 |
Egg McMuffin or Sausage McMuffin with egg? Inquiring minds must know. |
| 12:46 |
: Love me some snausage.
|
| 12:46 |
You are fart factory, Slug-slimed, sack-of-rat-guts-in-cat-vomit, cheesy, scab-picked, pimple-squeezing finger bandage. A week old maggot burger with everything on it and flies on the side! |
| 12:46 |
Thoughts on Weaver? Low LD% and through-the-roof HR/FB so far… but the rest of his stuff looks solid. What’s going on? |
| 12:46 |
: Terrible velocity means more homers. Not buying.
|
| 12:47 |
As a big Royal fan, Butler looked absolutely lost last night and late on nearly every swing. Can he rebound enough to have his counting stats be worth while? |
| 12:47 |
: Should find his way to .280 and 18, always does.
|
| 12:47 |
First off, If you have access to Michigan breweries, I highly recommend Kuhnhenn Brewing Co.’s DRIPA (Double Rice IPA). Delicious. |
| 12:47 |
: Jesus. 12:09.
|
| 12:47 |
What’s up Eno! What kind of trade return could I ask for if I traded away Tanaka in a dynasty league right now? Hitting would be preferable. |
| 12:47 |
: The moon
|
| 12:47 |
is arquimedes caminero the best name in baseball at the moment? |
| 12:47 |
: lovely
|
| 12:48 |
Will I lose my closer’s gig at some point this season? |
| 12:48 |
: I do think so, yes. Farq back pitching well.
|
| 12:48 |
Will Drew and/or Morales sign somewhere before the draft? |
| 12:48 |
: Drew really looks like after the draft now. Tigers obviously could use him. Maybe Morales in same boat.
|
| 12:48 |
traded prado for bailey–have lawrie as 2b/3b and Sandoval. did I do good? |
| 12:48 |
: yes
|
| 12:48 |
mlb at bat classified one of leury garcia’s pitches as a knuckleball last night |
| 12:49 |
Evidence C: “…I’ve been known to love youth a bit much” |
| 12:49 |
which, it was slow and moved real funny, but he missed the zone by about three feet at times |
| 12:49 |
: sandwich interlude
|
| 12:49 |
Hey Eno, are you going to write an article about your interviews with Haren and Greinke the other day? |
| 12:49 |
: Of course. Greinke Monday for Fox/FG, Haren later. Haren wants us to put a quality of opposition thing in pitching WAR, and that’s entirely reasonable.
|
| 12:50 |
Would you rather DL stash Calhoun or Nate Jones |
| 12:50 |
: Calhoun has a rgreat ole waiting for him.
|
| 12:50 |
:
|
| 12:51 |
: What a great beginning. HOW YOU WONNA DRAG MY STYLE WHEN I AM SO SUPERIOR
|
| 12:51 |
Who’s a better roster stash for this year, Buxton or Taveras? |
| 12:52 |
: Neither? For this year? Buxton for September I guess.
|
| 12:52 |
Puig’s style of play leads to frequent injuries and inconsistent contact it seems. What are you expecting from him RoS? |
| 12:52 |
: Excellence
|
| 12:52 |
Firkin Fridays at Safeco was a hot mess of wasted kids, fried food and cheap cask ipa |
| 12:52 |
: Decent Hot Mess
|
| 12:52 |
ZiPS has Mesoraco at 371 PA, but with Brayan Pena backing him up do you think he gets more? |
| 12:52 |
: yes!
|
| 12:52 |
10 tm mixed keeper – what’s a reasonable bid for George Springer with a FAAB budget of $100? |
| 12:53 |
: In batting average leagues, I’d spend 25-33%. In OBP, 40%. In deeper OBP keepers where his price is not attached to him going forward, push past 50%.
|
| 12:53 |
Gray, Cingrani, A. Wood, Salazar, Minor, Teheran, Cole, Ryu…please rank. |
| 12:54 |
: All my favorites in the same place. Let’s see. Cole Gray Salazar Teheran Ryu Cingrani Wood Minor
|
| 12:54 |
Who has more value ROS between Eovaldi and Chavez? |
| 12:54 |
: Man if you could smush them together… what do you want, just a FB, or everything else? I’ll take Chavez.
|
| 12:54 |
I offered a struggling team Archie Bradley and Matt Cain for Kershaw. Am I dumb? An evil genius? Or somewhere in between? |
| 12:55 |
: genius
|
| 12:55 |
Danny Duffy on his way to the rotation? |
| 12:55 |
: Constantly.
|
| 12:55 |
#astros #gerorge |
| 12:55 |
My staff is Strausburg, Gray, Kazmir, Kennedy, Paxton? Would you move any of them with Butler for the chance to get Garza, Straily or Salazar? |
| 12:55 |
: I’d take Salazar for Butler plus anyone not named Gray or Strasburg.
|
| 12:56 |
kyle farnsworth/ alexi ogando / matt albers in waiver wire deep league releief spot. thoughts? |
| 12:56 |
: like em all to various degrees. Ogando/farns/albers?
|
| 12:56 |
I noticed there is someone called The Dude, forcing me to change my name. From this day forward I shall be called Migs! |
| 12:56 |
DUDE. IS. DEAD. |
| 12:56 |
What are your thoughts on roto categories that count a batter’s strikeouts against him? |
| 12:57 |
: I don’t hate it. We count em for pitchers.
|
| 12:57 |
thoughts on dee gordon? He’s the man right? |
| 12:57 |
: not every day apparently

Is Hanley going to miss anytime this weekend? |
| 12:57 |
: Bet he takes today off at least.
|
| 12:57 |
1) Eno: Is Teixiera done for good? |
| 12:58 |
: Contemplating this myself but can’t be. At least it’s a different problem? Or does that make it worse.
|
| 12:58 |
Buying or Selling Castellanos long term? |
| 12:58 |
: Selling if someone sees a superstar.
|
| 12:58 |
sell high on pineda, or are you a believer? |
| 12:58 |
: I’m not really a believer. Saw a ton of 91s yesterday. Don’t believe in the change. But man is he making me look stupid.
|
| 12:59 |
Somebody was hiding the last bottle of zombie dust behind some other scrubs the other day at my local beer distributor in nyc |
| 12:59 |
: BUT YOU CAUGHT HIM
|
| 12:59 |
With a cornCobb pipe and a button nose and an oblique made out of coal. |
| 12:59 |
Is it possible that Kenley Jansen’s increased velocity has “straightened out” his cutter, making him more hittable? Or is that crazy talk? |
| 12:59 |
: I don’t see it in the movement numbers, but I did want to ask him about it. I bet it’s a bit harder to command at that velo…
|
| 12:59 |
Is Anthony Rendon a poor man’s Dustin Pedroia? |
| 12:59 |
: No speed.
|
| 1:00 |
Shelby Miller or Zack Wheeler in a 10-teamer? They’re borderline keepers in my format, and I could use the roster spot for streaming… |
| 1:00 |
: Miller me.
|
| 1:00 |
Waffle me, playboy. |
| 1:00 |
: Waffle him.
|
| 1:00 |
I don’t like your taste in music, and I hate beer…but I love your fantasy advice. Neil Walker or Bonifacio? |
| 1:01 |
: Weird because I love all sorts of music and hate lots of beer. Walker.
|
| 1:01 |
|
| 1:01 |
: So. Weird.
|
| 1:01 |
Cesar Ramos? Alfredo Simon? Dustin McGowan? Anything good here? |
| 1:02 |
: Yuck. I don’t think ramos will hold on to role long. Simon seems like he’s keeping seat warm for Latos. McGowan??
|
| 1:02 |
When does Mookie Betts arrive in the major leagues and with what team? |
| 1:02 |
: Probably not until next year, and maybe with another team.
|
| 1:03 |
EnoOoO–Joeybatz 16/9 k:bb rate…edwin 6/13….who finishes with the better ratio |
| 1:03 |
: Edwin!
|
| 1:03 |
All this production for Dozier with a .180 average sustainable? |
| 1:03 |
: I sorta like some of what he’s doing. I think the BA will come up. They’ll give him plenty of time.
|
| 1:04 |
I turned S.Santos/Gallardo into T. Rosenthal/JZimmerman. Still a win even with Janssen news? |
| 1:04 |
: Um. YES.
|
| 1:04 |
Sonny Gray Real Estate is just a fantastic name. |
| 1:04 |
What are your thoughts on Alex Wood for the year? Looks like he could settle in nicely. |
| 1:04 |
: Lost a bit of velocity, put me in camp that worries about his mechanics long term, but now? Giddyap.
|
| 1:04 |
WHAT DO I DO WITH CHRIS CARTER?!?!?!? |
| 1:05 |
: Be sad with him on your bench for a bit longer.
|
| 1:05 |
As the president of the Brad Miller fan club, do I have your blessing dropping him for Neil Walker in a league where K’s count? |
| 1:05 |
: Does look like he’ll K 7-10% more than Walker…
|
| 1:05 |
: Sure I guess. You lose SBs though.
|
| 1:05 |
Alpine is starting their NorCal distribution. Kegs of Nelson are scattered around the city starting Friday. And the peasants rejoice. |
| 1:06 |
: OH MAN I NEED
|
| 1:06 |
Heard the Pirates broadcasters mention MLB toughened standards for maple bats that were splintering and flying all over the place in recent years. Underreported, but…good job MLB! |
| 1:06 |
Who is the real Allen Craig? |
| 1:06 |
: .280+/18.
|
| 1:06 |
what? |
| 1:06 |
: Awesome.
|
| 1:07 |
Love that Uncle Bud thinks replay is “working well”. I mean, besides the fact they’ve changed the 120 year old interpretation of the most fundamental and commonplace play: the catch, sure it’s been fine. AKA ‘other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?’ |
| 1:07 |
: Yeah I think the catch crap is worse. Replay was going to need a bit of time.
|
| 1:07 |
Enoclitus Sarristuclies |
| 1:07 |
“emerald ash borer” Beautiful coloring on these wee beasties. |
| 1:08 |
That Funke’s really something… |
| 1:08 |
Will robby cano hit 25 homers this season? |
| 1:08 |
: 23
|
| 1:08 |
No love for me as a surprising undrafted SP? |
| 1:08 |
: Sure. He showed up on a couple of my sleeper lists going in.
|
| 1:08 |
How long is Jesse Chavez gonna last? |
| 1:09 |
: Innings are a question, But! He’s no spring chicken. (more cliches). In other words, how concerned are they really going to be about his future.
|
| 1:09 |
Is Kazmir a good sell-high candidate before his performance drops/he gets inevitably injured |
| 1:09 |
: Good while in. Hard to judge his value to your team, but I think it’s mostly fungible. Especially considering bad road matchups and always iffy WHIP.
|
| 1:10 |
Will Carlos Martinez take over for Kelly while he is out? |
| 1:10 |
: Is he stretched out? Minor leaguer that is? Might depend on how long Kelly is out too.
|
| 1:10 |
So, for the sake of argument, if Andrew Cashner sustains his current production (within reason) and Anthony Rizzo turns into a 280/400/500 gold-glove first baseman, who would you prefer long-term? |
| 1:10 |
: Rizzo because of injury and the fact that Cash still has more injury risk than average.
|
| 1:11 |
Hi Eno. i have Abreu at $0, Freeman at $6 and Goldschmidt at $16. I was offered Puif for Goldy and I said hell no. Am I crazy? Also, league-mates think I would need to trade a Goldy to get a Kimbrel, which to me is insane, especially for a P with a sore shoulder. |
| 1:11 |
: You the sane one.
|
| 1:11 |
Eno, help me! I am hover near the bottom in my keeper league. It’s my pitching! Kershaw, Masterson, Bailey and Kluber. Nothing better than Nolasco on waivers. Do I punt ERA & WHIP and try to stock up on setup guys? |
| 1:11 |
: Hang tight.
|
| 1:12 |
Are the A’s Ws contenders? |
| 1:12 |
: Sure. Though it would be nice to see Gray look more like the ace he looked like last year, and Straily cracking 92.
|
| 1:12 |
so how comfortable are you with Rotographs turning into a gambling site? I get that you guys need to get paid, but half the articles are now devoted to guessing what players will do over a sample of say 4ABs. |
| 1:13 |
: Three of ten posts a day are dedicated to a fantasy game you don’t play. Click ‘roto’ or ‘h2h’ tags and you won’t see them.
|
| 1:13 |
Need to get rid of one pitcher: Erasmo? W. Peralta or Erlin? |
| 1:13 |
: Erlin more dependent on matchup IMO.
|
| 1:13 |
I’m a mets fan in Brooklyn who cut cable this year…i noow watch every game but my own team. Is this what purgatory is? |
| 1:13 |
: Hah. Pay for cable in 2015 maybe.
|
| 1:13 |
Derek Holland DL stash a good move right? |
| 1:14 |
: Been doing it but
|
| 1:14 |
I have Derek Holland and James Paxton on the DL, and now Kole Calhoun is hurt as well and I only have 2 DL spots. I’d like to grab another position player to replace Calhoun. My pitching is generally fine. Who should I drop? |
| 1:14 |
: this is what happens. Holland might be furthest out.
|
| 1:14 |
Had maybe my favorite Imperial IPA this week…Avery Brewings Maharaja…highly recommended |
| 1:15 |
: yes that is a good one
|
| 1:15 |
Adam Eaton hasn’t gotten a lot of attention for his solid start, can it be expected to continue? |
| 1:16 |
: I see nothing wrong with it!
|
| 1:16 |
Jimenez…worth the upside in a 14 team roto mixer, or better off streaming?? |
| 1:16 |
: Give him another start or two. Tough opponents to begin with, although I guess that might make him a streamer.
|
| 1:17 |
Should I shave my mustache/beard? Wife doesn’t like it, it’s getting bland, but I look like I’m 17 without it (I’m 23) |
| 1:17 |
: Dunno. My wife wants me to cut my hair. I don’t. Maybe mustache?
|
| 1:17 |
You’ |
| 1:17 |
make it nasty |
| 1:17 |
Any Eric young thoughts? |
| 1:18 |
: Every day starter for now, but not when everyone is healthy, which puts him behind Dee and Boni but ahead of Rajai IMO.
|
| 1:18 |
Does Carlos Santana turn it around soon? |
| 1:18 |
: yes
|
| 1:18 |
When do you see Fister coming off the DL and what do you expect from him? Do you see uptick in K ERA etc now that he’s in the NL east? |
| 1:19 |
: I’m still excited for him. Maybe a small boost from NL, but also a small one from IF defense.
|
| 1:19 |
Any reason to be worried about Strasburg? |
| 1:19 |
: Slightly lower velocity, but I think he can be great at 93/94 too.
|
| 1:19 |
Billy Butler and Pablo Sandoval are both overweight and pissing me off. |
| 1:19 |
: To be honest, Larry, everything pisses you off.
|
| 1:19 |
Where did you go to college/what did you study? |
| 1:20 |
: Stanford/Fun. (Art History, Psychology, Communications for my MA).
|
| 1:20 |
Also, Baez is hurt. |
| 1:20 |
: Also.
|
| 1:20 |
Long term, do you like d’Arnaud or Mesoraco better offensively? |
| 1:20 |
: Mes.
|
| 1:20 |
Eno, my offense is in disrepair. Would you swap Gyorko for Hill? |
| 1:20 |
: Yeah I would do that.
|
| 1:20 |
What considered a good LD%? |
| 1:20 |
: 20-21
|
| 1:20 |
…gah… er um where am I? |
| 1:20 |
: Japan, right?
|
| 1:21 |
Who are the best steals and SP prospects in the minors that might make an impact this year? |
| 1:22 |
: Giolito, Syndergaard…. Marisnick?
|
| 1:22 |
: Steals in minors kinda barren right now.
|
| 1:22 |
just ran some calculations and one of my fantasy teams has a collective .219 babip |
| 1:23 |
Going to Jamaica this weekend (Runaway Bay resorty type area)-any suggestions, beer or otherwise? |
| 1:24 |
: Scuba. Dunn’s River is fun. If there’s any trip to the mountains, consider it despite the beach. Don’t worry about beer too much, it’s either water (Red Stripe) or sludge (Guinness Extra Foreign Stout). Have a lime daquiri.
|
| 1:24 |
Mike Trout has had an unbelievable season so far, but why isn’t he stealing bases at his normal rate? I understand the small sample size but he’s doing everything else just fine. |
| 1:25 |
: Too many homers.
|
| 1:25 |
I have asked 5 questions so far and none have been answered. Please explain |
| 1:25 |
: 12:42.
|
| 1:25 |
What did the witch say when she clogged the toilet? Double Double toilet trouble! |
| 1:25 |
I made that up |
| 1:25 |
Have you interviewed your fellow Jamaican Masterson? |
| 1:26 |
: I have but Laurila has him on lock. Masterson was super happy to discover another white Jamaican though. Yelled to someone about it in the clubhouse. “I TOLD YOU.”
|
| 1:26 |
So, Tabata has a concussion. Is a Polanco promotion imminent? |
| 1:26 |
: You and me both want it. They might be able to manage without though.
|
| 1:27 |
Coco Crisp, 20 HRs, 40 Steals, or 100 games full of ticky-tack injuries. |
| 1:27 |
: 18/20 and 110.
|
| 1:27 |
OK, I bought the Tommy La Stella hype and he currently sits in my milb slot…do we really see him this year take over for the Uggla One? |
| 1:27 |
: Looking less likely after the two homer game, but if it’s June and he’s hitting under .200….
|
| 1:28 |
Do we see Asmirendy Alcantara in Chicago in June? Will he bring NL-only value? |
| 1:28 |
: Boni playing CF is good news. This could happen, but Baez there too. Cubs hard to prognosticate upon. (gross)
|
| 1:29 |
Hey eno. Please evaluate a trade that went through for me last night. I traded Villar for axford and alcides Escobar. How’d I do? |
| 1:29 |
: I like Alcides better, so sure.
|
| 1:29 |
Stashing Taijuan Walker or Kole Calhoun in the DL spot? Redraft league. |
| 1:29 |
: Calhoun
|
| 1:29 |
How would you rank this year’s Sour Sisters? I think I go Gillian>>>>>>>Lolita>>>Julia>>>Halia. |
| 1:29 |
: Gillian YESSSSSSSSSSSS (haven’t had Halia)
|
| 1:29 |
Re salazar. who drops a guy who Ks 10 in 3.2 innings. i dont care if he gave up 20 hits |
| 1:30 |
You said you’re not buying Weaver…would you roster Smyly, Kazmir, and Kluber all ahead of him? |
| 1:30 |
: Smyly and Kluber but Weaver might have trade value.
|
| 1:30 |
Matt Carpenter for Puig, Yay or Nay? |
| 1:30 |
: Puig for me.
|
| 1:30 |
I know you have been mentioning IPAs, but I have to throw Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout out there as a must try. Delicious. |
| 1:30 |
Does cold weather tend to favor pitchers or hitters in general? |
| 1:31 |
: Velocity peaks with weather, so pitchers aren’t at peak either. But power peaks with weather. I’ll go with pitchers though. They reported first, and the bat feels like crap in your hand in cold weather.
|
| 1:31 |
Eno eno eno, eno eno eno, don’t lie. What you gonna do when it all comes out? |
| 1:31 |
: 1) Admit. 2) Apologize. 3) Write about it. 4) Profit.
|
| 1:32 |
exactly…Germen isn’t going to leapfrog Farns unfortunately. Can’t wait for Collins to get the axe. And I used to like him. |
| 1:32 |
: A few teams have turned on Collins.
|
| 1:32 |
How does it feel when major league ball players are suggesting idea for WAR? Awesome? Super awesome? Best thing ever? |
| 1:32 |
: So invigorating.
|
| 1:32 |
: So many Ks.
|
| 1:32 |
It’s early to toot my horn, but I warned you that you were sleeping on Yordano. |
| 1:33 |
: I mean I have a few shares, just like I have shares of Garrett Richards, just because every mph = .2-.33 RA per nine. But I did have many doubts, as did others, about his size, ability to keep velocity deep into games, and secondary stuff (he wasn’t throwing it all, looked like a reliever arsenal). But, he’s fire.
|
| 1:33 |
Lol it auto corrected uribe to urine. Apt. |
| 1:34 |
I own three shares of Jason Castro. Drop him for Mesoraco? |
| 1:34 |
: got no problems with him. Feel like they very close to same guy. Try dropping one for Mes. Always liked Mes.
|
| 1:34 |
Hey Eno, looking forward who’s the best speculative add to close out games for their respective team come June/July: Webb, Farquhar, Rondon, Melancon |
| 1:35 |
: Rondon closest to saves now. Farq in July.
|
| 1:35 |
Thoughts on Martin Perez? |
| 1:35 |
: Still don’t see a breaker, but a good sinker and great change-up is a good place to start. Home park makes him a borderline mixed league play though.
|
| 1:36 |
With Mesoraco, gomes and zunino basically freebies to start thos season – Why are people even wasting mid round picks on the likes of matt wieters? |
| 1:36 |
: yup
|
| 1:36 |
My Staff is Lester, Smardjza, Ventura, Anibal, Minor, Latos, Shields Shelby, Nova, Skaggs, Gerrit cole, Vargas. Who would u drop to pick up Archie |
| 1:36 |
: Vargas
|
| 1:36 |
Matt Davidson has like a 50% K rate in AAA right now. How much is he lowering your expectations for him? and would you give up on him for 2014? |
| 1:37 |
: Yeah more like 33% I think, but it’s not good. I’m not giving up yet. They want him, and it’s not a great sample for K% yet.
|
| 1:37 |
Bababooey! |
| 1:37 |
Hanley is not starting today. |
| 1:37 |
If you could be best friends with any baseball player, who would it be? |
| 1:37 |
: Joey.
|
| 1:37 |
Do you ever get “this is off the record” from players? |
| 1:38 |
: Couple times. Frustrating because I want to write it, but it’s okay.
|
| 1:38 |
In the after dark chat either Jeff or Paul suggested Baez wouldn’t be up until September. He gets the call sooner than that, right? |
| 1:38 |
: Yeah I’m agreeing with them.
|
| 1:38 |
Do you still like Carrasco? |
| 1:38 |
: Yes actually. There are so many pieces there. Caveat: talking deep leagues here.
|
| 1:39 |
Northern California protip: almost every store has bottles of Pliny stashed in the back if you ask for them. |
| 1:39 |
All the ‘sperts told me to take Strasburg over Wacha and Shark this offseason and I followed you advice. Some ‘sperts you are! |
| 1:39 |
: Gonna leave that one right there. Might frame it!
|
| 1:39 |
GI Sofie or Matilda |
| 1:40 |
: Haven’t had Sofie. Love the brett Matilda though, enough to keep buying it despite them being InBev.
|
| 1:40 |
Overspent on Mujica in an AL only thinking Uehara was out for good. What gives? |
| 1:41 |
: Uehara is okay and I like Tazawa better anyway.
|
| 1:41 |
Zach Britton a starter again? |
| 1:41 |
: Doubt it. Maybe I love Gaus too much, but he has to be ahead of him in line.
|
| 1:41 |
Can we please refer to him as E-Bone again? |
| 1:41 |
How much playing time will i get? |
| 1:41 |
: Utility
|
| 1:42 |
i drafted emilio only looking for 20-25 steals. I dont care if he doesnt hit a lick. why is everyone dumping on emilio? |
| 1:42 |
: Because of his real-life baseball skills. Fine fantasy player.
|
| 1:42 |
Eno, Cigar City Jai Alai & Stone Enjoy By 4-20-14 |
| 1:42 |
: Oh god get Enjoy By. Now.
|
| 1:42 |
No Torres love as a possible SV hawk in NYM? |
| 1:43 |
: His usage is all over the place. Swing starter too. Farns at 94 probably over him.
|
| 1:43 |
Will Francisco Lindor be a letdown fantasy-wise? |
| 1:43 |
: yeah, probably. D first.
|
| 1:43 |
What’s up with Hank Conger? Will he ever be a starting C? |
| 1:43 |
: If Angels scuffle, yes.
|
| 1:43 |
Thoughts on Grandal for ROS in otto pts? |
| 1:43 |
: Big fan.
|
| 1:44 |
Ivan Nova isnt K’ing anyone. Jesse Chavez over Nova? |
| 1:45 |
: I like Nova, but his upside is low enough that I’d do this.
|
| 1:45 |
I took a lude earlier but at the time though I was in a Jacqueline Suzanne novel. |
| 1:45 |
LONG LIVE DUDE |
| 1:45 |
Does Mike Olt stay up the whole season? |
| 1:46 |
: I’d hope he’d either get to sleep or call a doctor, but yeah I think they’ll give him a long look. Bryant looked like an OF to me.
|
| 1:46 |
Cespedes: 25/15 .265 sound about rigth? |
| 1:46 |
: yes
|
| 1:46 |
Shhh, I’ve been in Tallahassee the whole time. |
| 1:46 |
So Allen Craig = Billy Butler? |
| 1:46 |
: Yes
|
| 1:46 |
the gif Maxamuz sent is reversed, by the way–he landed on Ruiz after a collision and rolled off. that’s why it’s all happening on the 1B side of the plate. Still an awesome gif though |
| 1:46 |
: I like it better that way.
|
| 1:47 |
I believe you’re SF Giants fan?? Any impact prospects coming up for SF? |
| 1:48 |
: I’m here in the bay area at least. Edwin Escobar is the next name in line when they tire of Vogelsong or someone gets hurt. He’s got decent upside with an okay fastball and a great change and a great home park.
|
| 1:48 |
Pineda vs Nova ROS? |
| 1:48 |
: Even with my distrust, has to be Pineda.
|
| 1:48 |
Prince for Hoz/Heyward – good move or panic move? |
| 1:48 |
: I’m totally good with that trade.
|
| 1:48 |
You said Taveras is not worht a roster stash for this year, with Buxton more likely? Am I missing something? I thought CF was his for the taking? |
| 1:49 |
: This year? With Bourjos and Jay there? And the Cardinals owning the oldest debut age in baseball? I think they’ll give him a ton of time to prove he’s healthy, raking, and then maybe hopefully wait for Bourjos or Jay to get hurt.
|
| 1:49 |
Zack–Kaz is great. ENO’s a hater |
| 1:50 |
: He’s already complained of injuries. And his career walk rate is four per nine. ZiPs RoS is 3.86/1.28 and 88 innings, Steamer 3.56 and 1.22 and 148. I’ll take Steamer innings and ERA/WHIp in between the two.
|
| 1:51 |
Thoughts on Khris Davis slow start or time to worry? Doesn’t seem to be showing any power at all. |
| 1:51 |
: Power takes 500 PA to stabilize. Until GB/FB rates stabilize, there’s virtually nothing we can take away from early season power numbers.
|
| 1:52 |
According to Dan Brooks: He presented on stabilization points on per pitch stuff at Saber Seminar last year. Which I can not seem to find on the internet. |
| 1:52 |
: Dammit. I’ll ask him for it.
|
| 1:52 |
Which boring veteran do you like better going forward – buerle, Hudson or harang? |
| 1:52 |
: Hudson.
|
| 1:52 |
Since you are in charge of fantasy: Could you guys look into doing more dynasty league content? |
| 1:52 |
: We’ll be updating Hulet’s top 50 prospect coverage, and we have two writers dedicated to prospect coverage. I’ll tell the writers to think about it a bit more.
|
| 1:52 |
Worried about masterson and his loss of velocity? |
| 1:53 |
: Yes, since he throws the sinker so much and doesn’t have other pitches to rely on / throw more as he ages.
|
| 1:53 |
On a scale of Tim Lincecum to King Felix, how bad will I regret eating Taco Bell later on? |
| 1:53 |
: Aaron Small.
|
| 1:53 |
: GAH
|
| 1:54 |
: I have a podcast very soon
|
| 1:54 |
: See you guys next week!!
|
| 1:54 |
byeeeeeee |
| 1:54 |
BYE ENO |
| 1:54 |
wheres the podcast? |
| 1:54 |
: Gonna record like now.
|
| 1:55 |
May the beer be with you. |
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
Hello all,
I’m getting a white screen. Will the chat come up? Please help!
