Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 4/20/16

2:05
Eno Sarris: The internet is wonderful. I was here, with my dad, and really enjoyed this song, It’s Ice:

12:01
Broseph: Any chance Zunino starts doing things at the plate anytime soon? Or should I jump ship and grab another flier like Hedges or Bandy?

12:02
Eno Sarris: Players like Zunino are super streaky. Still it’s not good that he’s striking out EVEN MORE. I’d give Bandy a shot. That’s at least a league average K%.

12:02
grimoren189: Updated thoughts on Amir Garrett?

12:03
Eno Sarris: He was 91.5 mph on the fastball and actually got whiffs on it yesterday. Still not a great fastball guy but his secondaries are fine. I like him more.

12:03
Nientsniew: Is it bad that I never ask baseball questions in this chat? In related news, I am using the bathroom

12:03
Eno Sarris: You fit right in.

12:04
Mike: Which call was worse for CB Bucknor: the “foul tip” that was clearly a swing and miss on Tuesday, or Bonifacio’s “catch” last night?

12:04
Eno Sarris: That foul tip ball missed the bat buy like a foot…

12:04
Jeb: Jesse Hahn… Am I crazy thinking I see a Danny Duffy breakthrough on the horizon?

12:05
Eno Sarris: I’ve been beating that drum so long I’m questioning myself. He has two good fastballs (sinker is better) and the curve is great. I like that he’s going to his old arm slot, hopefully he’ll get some command back. Cautiously optimistic.

12:05
Erik: Who would you rather own in a non-dynasty league: Aaron Judge or Trey Mancini? And what sort of boring but proven veteran sluggers would you put them in a tier with?

12:05
Eno Sarris: Judge for sure. Judge strikes me as a little bit better than Matt Holliday.

12:05
Shawn : What are your 3-4 favorite hops?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Citra, Mosaic, Nelson. All the fruit.

12:06
botchatheny: do you remember RANDY CHOATE?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Funky arm slot.

12:06
Hannah Hochevar: Seth Smith injury! Good thing the Orioles stocked up on immobile 4th outfielders. Phew!

12:06
Eno Sarris: Ah thenceforth the Mancini questions.

12:06
Eno Sarris: Call up Alvarez! (Did they?)

12:06
Sam: You have any hope for Adam Wainwright to turn it around?

12:06
Eno Sarris: I’d want him to throw the curve 40+% of the time. He’s not doing htat.

12:06
Jose Abreu: I’ve kinda stunk to start the year. Real problem of fake problem?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Real problem is that pitchers are busting him inside and he hasn’t responded. It’s sorta fake, though, because it’s very hard to pitch inside (usually requires command to the glove side, which is rarer than the opposite) and he’s still 15-20% better than league average, or 10-15% better than average 1B.

12:07
Matt: I have Anthony Rendon at 3B. Gallo in my minors. And an open bid for Chase Headley. What is the proper course of action here? Keep Gallo down, and ride a hot Headley until Rendon picks it up? Or will Gallo play enough that it’s worth calling him up? OBP & TB instead of AVG & HR.

12:07
Eno Sarris: Keep Gallo down.

12:08
Something: So Maikel Franco is crushing the ball, but has a pretty terrible launch angle around 10 degrees. Say he can ‘correct’ his launch angle above 20 degrees, should his exit velocity stay consistent or would that cause a drop for some reason?

12:08
Eno Sarris: 10 is not terrible for line drives. I think he’ll eventually settle in as a .280+ guy with 25 homer power. I like him and am buying.

12:08
Hannah Hochevar: Why can’t Joe Kelly strike people, or even one person, out with that gas?

12:08
Eno Sarris: Straight as an arrow.

12:08
The Decadent Moose: Headed to the Empty Bottle tomorrow. (sing it with me): 3 Floyds a-pouring, Moon Duo singing and a happy concert go-er.

12:08
Eno Sarris: Sweet Friday.

12:11
Eno Sarris: So today, in honor of the day, I’m doing live music shows I’ve seen. I saw these guys two years after the last show, totally different vibe, and the dancing guy was wearing a spiderman outfit and shooting confetti cannons into the crowd

12:11
Ben: I’m not sure Joc has started one game against lefties this year. Castellanos was just dropped. Worth making the swap for a general utility slot?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Weekly league? IF it’s daily, I love love Joc against righties. Just get a good partner.

12:12
Brendon : Quick two-fer:You buying into Odor’s positive launch angle changes? Next RP stash – Rosenthal?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Get Rosenthal. I think Odor will do roughly what he did last year.

12:13
Bruce Bocce: Karns has gone to groundball rather than k generating. Thoughts?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Bad idea jeans. Dude has K stuff. Doesn’t throw a sinker. 4S and Curve pair well.

12:13
Purple Urkle: What would have to happen in order to declare yourself “the king of the fucking jungle”?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Probably a pillow fight with my kids and maybe I’d say pooping.

12:14
mitch haniger: is this the real me?

12:15
Eno Sarris: It’s a little much power right now, but I think he can be better than his K% and power projections. 20% Ks and .200 ISO? From a guy with good D? We *are* going to remember this as the Haniger trade, aren’t we, Sullivan.

Mitch Haniger doing work. Here he is in Spring talking launch angles, and making the data fit the player:

12:15
@OutfieldGrass24: Because I know you’ve already thought about it: what’s the sandwich du jour when this chat’s over?

12:16
Eno Sarris: I’m thinking of doing something weird that will inspire lots of is it a sandwich questions that I hate. Guac, grilled chicken and onions, refried beans, cheese, on Dutch Crunch roll.

12:16
Moltar: So I already lost Dyson and replaced him with Bush, and now I need to cut Treinen as well. Do I wade in to the Glover/Kelly battle? Which one of the two? Or say F it and get Bradley or Lorenzen? (Points league so multi-inning guys are great)

12:17
Eno Sarris: Kelley I guess. Can’t imagine Dusty Baker, veteran-lover, goes to the kid first.

12:17
Zach: Do I sell high on Thames, to receive Yelich?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Thames is probably going to hit .280 with 30+ homers and 8-10 steals. Sure, some of that is banked, but that’s very good. I love Yelich, so it’s close, but unless you need batting average I don’t think there’s an urgent need to do this trade.

12:18
Jeb: Chad Kuhl velo seems to be ticking up Vs. scouting report. He’s getting whiffs early on (12.5 sw st%). Upside of #2-#3 starter?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Hasn’t had a swSTR like that since A-ball (love having minor league numbers now) and I don’t think the change is v good. I bet he’s matched up well so far.

12:20
Guest: Eno, two questions…current favorite Stout you’ve had lately & what about that Amir Garrett?

12:21
Eno Sarris: last stout I had was Mikkeller Beer Geek Vanilla Shake which was v good but not as good as the last one I really remember loving which was Lagunitas High Westified coffee stout.

12:21
Chris: Did you see Aaron Judge’s bomb last night?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Majestic.

12:22
DB: Eno, I need an arm (or two) to replace Happ & Richards. Who do you like from the following group? Skaggs, Shelby, Wily Peralta, Jordan Montgomery, Eduardo Rodriguez, Chen

12:22
Eno Sarris: Montgomery and Chen.

12:22
kevinthecomic: Thanks for chatting, Eno! How does Kiermaier’s missed flyball yesterday impact his defensive runs saved? Is he just charged the three runs that scored by playing a routine out into a bases clearing triple?

12:23
Eno Sarris: No it’s way more complicated than that. His error gets converted into runs by asking ‘how many runs would a dropped fly ball normally be worth’ not by asking what they were worth in that moment.

12:23
Eno Sarris: And by way more complicated I mean, I barely understand it myself.

12:23
Michael P: Did Oakland open their upper deck in time for today so people could continue the tradition of smoking devil’s lettice in the corners near the scoreboard?

12:23
Eno Sarris: I don’t even understand it. I’ve seen like two people sitting up there so far. Plenty of places to smoke lettuce in that empty stadium.

12:24
Bruce: What do you know about ballplayers and Yoga – Is that a big thing?

12:24
Eno Sarris: I know Jimmy Rollins thought it was a big deal and that the A’s do it collectively, almost everyone on team. I’ll be doing a piece on that this year.

12:24
Jake: What’s up with Jason Vargas?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Not a dang thing.

12:24
Kyle: Do you like what Keuchel has shown? Can he (mostly) keep up what he’s done to start the season?

12:24
Eno Sarris: I can’t believe everyone just decides not to swing against him. Throws the ball in the zone like 30% of the time! That’s ridiculous.

12:25
Young Joc: Was Dave Roberts lying to me when he said I’d play more against LHP this year?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Guess so.

12:25
Hal: So….when’s the jay Bruce article?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Here’s a synopsis: He said he would up his launch angle, and he did!

12:26
Brett: So I am going to go ahead an start panicking about Villar. Weak contact, poor discipline, and a lot of swing and misses.

12:26
Eno Sarris: It’s not great. They’ll probably let him play and he’ll probably get a little better but it won’t look like last year.

12:28
Eno Sarris: A few years after I saw Less than Jake, I went to another concert with my dad, and saw this guy with a full orchestra.

12:28
Dungeon Master: Eno! Trying to figure out my last UTIL spot…R Zimmerman, Domingo Santana, Steven Souza, or Holliday. Would you sit Hosmer for any of these for time being?

12:28
Eno Sarris: I’d sit Hosmer for any of those guys vs a lefty.

12:28
Dungeon Master: DUNGEON. MASTER.

12:29
Bork: Remember when Eric Thames played for the Jays? I do 🙁

12:29
80 grade question asker: my sister is trying to say she thinks all animals are boys. which animals are the girl animals

12:29
RotoLando: Mirror Universe Eno has a goatee, and ______?

12:29
Eno Sarris: wears a suit, and has no time for silliness.

12:29
Minty: Am I reading too much into it that Bellinger started and played half of the game last night in CF?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Not at all. I think he’ll come up and play in the OF this year and is the best redraft stash in baseball.

12:30
Brett: Trevor Story’s K% is up 10% from last season despite his O-Swing% being down 5%. That’s hard too do.

12:30
Eno Sarris: It takes him a while to adjust to new books on him. But I’ve seen him do it enough that I believe he’ll figure it out again.

12:32
Rick: Beer Recommendations. St. Louis. Go!

12:32
Eno Sarris: Second Shift. Perennial. Urban Chestnutt. Schlafly.

12:32
Jim-Bob: Worry-o-meter, 1-10: Villar becoming a strikeout machine, Jose Bautista looking kinda done, Carlos Beltran looking really done

12:33
Eno Sarris: 9, 6, 4. But the last one is only a four because you should only expect deep league style performance from Beltran at this point.

12:33
Rusty: Is Triggs worth a stream against Seattle at home this Sunday?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Yeah I guess so. He may have some problems with lefty power hitters later but he’s funky and will have success the first few times a team sees him.

12:34
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: Almost three weeks into the season. Who can we begin to worry about without the obligatory SSS asterisk?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Mostly worry about big contact rate changers since that’s per pitch, or guys that have lost velo or movement.

12:35
Big Tuna: Who are your favorite buy low candidates so far?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Maikel Franco, Story, Polanco, Bregman, Contreras on hitting side.

12:38
Eno Sarris: Verlander, Tanaka, Edwin Diaz, Nola, Manaea on pitching side.

12:39
Brian w: Schoop or zobrist ?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Schoop.

12:39
DB: Any concerns about what we have seen thus far with Gausman?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Abandoned the curve for some reason. Without it, ceiling is lowered.

12:39
Big Tuna: When you say you like what you see from J. Montgomery, what leagues do you think he should be rostered in?

12:39
Eno Sarris: 15+

12:40
Kyle: Today’s sandwich: Smoked pork loin, BBQ Sauce, on a white bread roll….definitely is lacking pickles and onions. But when the wife makes it, you just keep your mouth shut and eat it.

12:40
Eno Sarris: hah

12:40
John: You think if the Blue Jays end up in sell mode they’ll wait for the offseason to move Donaldson anyway? Any guesses on a destination? Also, is it ee-no or eh-no? Thanks Eno!

12:41
Eno Sarris: My German family says eh-no but it’s definitely eeno. eh-no sounds a bit too much like ahem a certain sexual position. Donaldson actually fairly steady value between trade deadline and offseason, not like a closer who’s value is most at deadline, but with one year left I could see them moving him.

12:41
Brett: Eno, with all the talk about velocity I am surprised perceived velocity isn’t discussed more. Is this because perceived velocity is more subjective, i.e.: harder to measure, or not a significant difference from velocity on performance? I think Amir Garrett is a great example of a ‘sneaky’ fastball, hence the question.

12:42
Eno Sarris: If Garrett gets a boost there it’s not from releasing closer to the plate, which is how Perceived Velo is calculated. He’s a 91 there. But he does have ‘rise’ which makes the ball ‘jump’ at a hitter.

12:42
Bone: Mesoraco, McCann, Castro or Pina as a C2?

12:43
Eno Sarris: B MCann or if it’s J, Mes.

12:43
Kiermaier’s Piercing Green Eyes: Brad Ausmus says a fan yelling “I got it!” was the cause of two fly balls dropping yesterday. Not that the Trop is that loud during weekday Rays-Tigers games, but is that believable?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Sorta lame. Players have people shouting at them all the time.

12:44
HP: i’ve poked around the site and can’t find an answer — how are “Def” values calculated for historical players? Isn’t all the fielding data we have for people like Babe Ruth just fielding percentage based?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Look up Total Zone. I think it’s done by Total Zone, which yes uses regular fielding stats somehow.

12:45
Eno Sarris: When I lived in London, I took the train to Paris in the spring and it was that first nice day and everyone was happy and we saw the Shins with 500 people at a club and I had a monster ass cold.

12:45
Tommy: With Machado, Story, Kluber, Quintana, etc, season offically over, so looking to rebuild. Does Archer get me Kakie Bryan or do I need a sweetener?

12:45
Eno Sarris: We’re talking the best prospect ever, with 80s across the board. You get that prospect.

12:46
KB: Maikel Franco- Seems like he’s hitting the ball hard this season but he’s got an incredibly low 3.42 degree average launch angle and a career high GB rate (54.3%). That partially explains his .136 BABIP. Are you chalking this up to small sample size or is he a guy to be concerned about??

12:46
Eno Sarris: Well that’s less ideal than 10. He doesn’t put a ton of loft into it. But I’ll still buy a hard hitter like that.

12:46
ryan: Thoughts on eickhoff going forward. top 40 pitcher? top 50?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:46
Bruce: What do you know about tommy Kahnle, he of 17.5 K-BB?

12:47
Eno Sarris: He’s pretty good, always has been in terms of stuff, so we’ll just have to watch the BB part of the K-BB. Lifetime 5.33 BB/9.

12:48
Johnny5Alive: LOL mets, amiright? What a week so far

12:48
Eno Sarris: LOLmets will never die, apparently.

12:48
Brandon M: Is it time to bail on Rich Hill?

12:48
Eno Sarris: no, this is what we signed up for.

12:48
Steve: How long before Justin Wilson is closing in Detroit?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Him and Rosenthal are my favorite spec pickups.

12:49
Haymaker: You were fairly high on Shoemaker before the season. It has only been a few starts but the results so far have not been good. You higher, lower, or same on him going forward?

12:50
Eno Sarris: I don’t like that he stepped back from 40+% split fingers. SwSTR is down, velo down a bit. I think he’s a mixed leaguer, but lower now, like 60-70s.

12:50
OppositePark: Could it be that something has changed at Coors Field? How do you explain Rockies poor offense and stellar pitching?

12:50
Eno Sarris: It’s cold early in the year in Colorado.

12:50
Maxamuz: I’m starting to think Eric Thames may hit more HR than the 68 I have projected for Lucas Duda.

12:50
arata : maeda not looking good so far this season. what’s happening with him?

12:50
Eno Sarris: He’s been about a 4 era guy since two months into last year.

12:51
Mark: Heading to the Bay Area in a couple weeks, but unfortunately it’s during an A’s homestand and not Giants. I will learn from your experiences and not eat at the Coliseum. Favorite brewery/bar to hit in Oakland? Will I have to go to Berkeley or Uptown to find it?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Is 41st uptown? Temescal is there, and it’s great. I like the Woods, The Trappist, and Lost & Found (great bar with outdoor space and games and good food).

12:53
dudeman: Mikkeler y/n?

12:53
Eno Sarris: The bar, yes, tho expensive. The beer? sometimes. You get burned, though.

12:53
Oggy: You think Motter can keep hitting enough to play 4-5 times a week in a utility role when Segura comes back?

12:54
Eno Sarris: I’ve been a fan for a while, have shares in my deepest leagues, but yeah, PT is a problem. What about taking ABs from Valencia. Too bad they’re both righties, but they’re not heavily invested in Valencia.

12:54
RotoLando: When will Hunter Renfroe put together a nice streak that makes it worth owning?

12:55
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll put up one of the least valuable 30 homer seasons in memory unless he improves on defense or patience.

12:55
Devon Travis: Would you hold Devon Travis over these top names available in my 12-team H2H points league or which one should I pick up? Reddick, Hicks, Alonso, Scooter

12:55
Eno Sarris: Hold.

12:55
EVV: I see 3 pitches under Severino’s profile. For argument’s sake though, how effective will he be the rest of the year utilizing just 2 pitches?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Look to rotation mate Michael Pineda for the pitfalls of going at it with two pitches. FWIW, I don’t think his change is good, but if he throws it 10+% of the time and gets grounders with it, I’m buying Severino.

12:56
E: Should I stick with Nick Castellanos for a bit longer?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Yes. He’s hitting the ball hard and in the air.

12:56
Ed: Is Severino just Michael Pineda Version 2 (i.e., fastball/slider guy who cannot take the next step due to lack of a quality 3rd pitch)?

12:57
Eno Sarris: Hah. Also: 12:08 on this bad boy.

12:57
Joe: What is the percentage that your guy Dyson closes again this year

12:57
Eno Sarris: 10-15%? Bush is really really good and Dyson’s velo is down.

12:57
capconstrained: Are the Yankees a 90 win team?

12:57
Eno Sarris: I put them in a wild card I think. I really like what Cashman has done with that team.

12:58
Eno Sarris: When I moved to New York, at one point I lived walking distance from Terminal 5. One of the best shows I saw there:

12:59
PD: Did you cancel all of the chats this week so you could get all the questions?

12:59
Eno Sarris: I didn’t but it worked.

12:59
John: will this staff be passable in a points league? My bats are absurdly stacked….Hamels, Paxton, A. Sanchez, Maeda, Fulmer, BundyPomeranz, Wacha, Urias.

12:59
Eno Sarris: Yeah I think you’ll be fine.

1:00
Zack Greinke: Can we put my velo concerns to bed after last nights outing?

1:00
Eno Sarris: 89.3 from Brooks last night…

1:00
Andrew: I make my grilled cheese by using heavily buttered pita bread in a panini press. It is heaven. Add bacon for fun

1:00
Eno Sarris: Man buttered pita in the toaster is underrated.

1:01
DFLAH: Thoughts on Samardzija? His ERA is over 6 but his xFip is 2.58. K’s are up.Should he be on the wire in a 12 team mixed?

1:01
Eno Sarris: I hate his cutter and I like that he’s throwing the slider more. I’m picking up in certain situations.

1:01
Jackson: Joey Votto’s BABIP so far this year is .182, well below his career average of .356. Is he unlucky in small sample size, or has something changed?

1:02
Eno Sarris: He’s definitely doing something strange. I think he just does random crap some months. He literally told me once that he spent a month pulling everything and I found that in the numbers.

1:02
Starburns: Gsellman just struck out another Philly looking. Are you liking what you see out of him so far?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Those high front door two-seamers could be what turns it around for him. I wish his change was any good, but slider, curve, two fastballs…

1:03
Brad: who do you like better wacha or gsellman?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Wacha.

1:04
Nelson: What do you use to counteract the dryness of goat cheese in a sandwich?

1:04
Eno Sarris: Grapes?

1:04
Eno Sarris: (Tomatoes normally. Cucumbers if you’re not insane like me)

1:04
Stuafoo: Do you think batters are intentionally trying to hit the ball in the air more to counteract the shift, or do you think the two things are happening more or less independent of each other (that beating the shift if more of a secondary benefit)?

1:05
Eno Sarris: The bunt is for the shift. I had to remind Schebler that if he got it in the air he would get it over the shift. He kept talking about bunting.

1:05
Maxamuz: Did you remember to leave Milk and Cookies out for Snoop Dogg on 4/20 eve?

1:06
Eno Sarris: lol but that reminds me I did see Snoop, Dre, Eminem and more live in college. He actually had the car on stage, check it out

1:07
Haymaker: Best NEIPA you’ve had that may distribute in TX?

1:07
Eno Sarris:

@enosarris Several attempts of late. To date, most true-to-style (and tastiest!) have been @SpindleTap’s Houston Ha… twitter.com/i/web/status/8…
20 Apr 2017
1:08
Isaac: What’s Kluber’s outlook?

1:08
Eno Sarris: velo creeping back up, phew. one of these years soon, though…

1:09
Jacob Barnes: I’m getting attention on the FA wire. Am I any good?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Very good

1:09
A. Reitz: RE: Do you remember Randy Choate? He was just in the league last year…

1:09
Eno Sarris: Thought so. Wasn’t he the pitcher right before or after Neshek gave up the homer to Morse in the playoffs that year?

1:09
bad idea: Well, he’s an ex free-base addict, and he’s trying to turn around, and he needs a place to stay for a couple of months.

1:10
Nate: What are some “saberstats” we should be looking at right now in order to pluck under-owned gems off the wire? What stat(s) mixed with a low BABIP would seem to signal an increase in production?

1:10
Eno Sarris: good exit velo and bad BABIP doesn’t always work out, but I’d buy that. Good velo and swSTR for a pitcher and bad results, I’d buy that. Good K% on either side is a thing I like to see.

1:11
Mike Honcho: Rank ’em…Gsellman, Triggs, Montgomery, Boyd. Thanks

1:11
Eno Sarris: Gsellman Montgomery Boyd Triggs

1:11
GB: Yuli Gurriel = Martin Prado?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Boom. Well done.

1:12
Johnny5Alive: My weekend – Firkin Friday at a local brewery, then Nathaniel Rateliff concert, Saturday Earth Day festival, Gose release at another brewery, and Dark Star Orchestra Saturday night. Try to contain your jealousy

1:12
Eno Sarris: Slow clap.

1:12
tip tipson: Motter was really bad yesterday !

1:12
Eno Sarris: He’s not Haniger, but he has power and can play all over.

1:12
joe: I’m big fan of imperial stouts like dragon’s milk, expedition stout, founder’s imperial. what similar beers from outside my Michigan area should I try?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Firestone Walker’s stout series (especially Parabola). The Bruery stouts. I like the Abyss from Deschutes.

1:14
Eno Sarris: My god I’m at 12:17 in the questions.

1:14
HankLloydWright: Every time a well-known player tests positive for a banned substance people start talking about the need for stronger penalties, but doesn’t the fact that people are getting caught, and only a few every year suggest that the system IS working? 0 players using seems unrealistic no matter what the consequences.

1:14
Eno Sarris: Good point.

1:15
Polly Ester: Are we still rolling with Cotton in 12 team mixed?

1:15
Eno Sarris: I dropped him in a ten teamer, but keeping in 12. Ks there and he doesn’t have a history of walks like this.

1:15
Dave: Do you anticipate Devenski being used in high leverage situations so he can acquire some wins and holds?

1:15
Eno Sarris: He’ll get wins. Holds harder because he’s doing multiple innings.

1:16
coach: Daniel Norris today @ Tampa, Bartolo tomorrow @ PHI or both??

1:16
Eno Sarris: Both.

1:16
CB: In the Preseason you were on Darvish saying he has the stuff to win the AL Cy Young. Are you concerned at all so far from what you’ve seen?

1:16
Eno Sarris: Not really.

1:16
#BantheWave: Joe Kelly’s two seamer has plenty of movement

1:17
Eno Sarris: Supposedly hasn’t thrown one this season! Also, it’s probably true that his secondaries aren’t as good as we thought they were.

1:17
Nate: Cheap source of steals for the year, Brandon Phillips or Pillar? Better beer, Leo vs. Ursus or Unfiltered Sculpin?

1:17
Eno Sarris: PIllar. and FORTEM FOREVER

1:18
disco volante: how worried should i be about bregman?

1:18
Eno Sarris: welp. not great exit velo. But he improved his K rate like I thought he would. I still like him a lot.

1:19
Mike: Dave Cameron just dropped a laudatory Freddy Freeman article. Are you in on him for fantasy? Over Edwin? Votto? Rizzo? Miggy?

1:19
Eno Sarris: Maybe over Edwin. Park was made for Freddie.

1:19
The Hills!: ENO’S SANDWICH SHOP LINE AROUND THE BLOCK

1:20
Eno Sarris: Dunno if he was just blowing smoke, but one guy on twitter said he’d put two or three of my sandwiches in his new deli and I am super flattered / excited.

1:20
Bill: How valuable is the skill of “seeing a lot of pitches” – For example, how many pitches per appearance would a player need to see to be valuable (while slightly below avg with the bat and glove)? Is there any value there?

1:20
Eno Sarris: wOBA goes up a bit, K% up, BB% up, power up.

1:20
PD: So, Treinen just didn’t have that closer mentality?

1:21
Eno Sarris: I think command did him in.

1:21
Frank: It upsets me when you put so many cucumbers on your sandwiches. You want something to water down the flavor of your other ingredients? What you got against pickles?

1:21
Eno Sarris: Don’t always want that vinegar in there, especially if I already have mustard on it.

1:21
Ken: I’ve tried getting Matt Andriese off my roster but he’s apparently the party guest I just can’t get out the door. Now he’s got two solid outings, though (so I guess he’s the party guest who gave me some nice booze?). Hang tight with him, or am I dropping for a Vargas or Severino?

1:21
Eno Sarris: Drop Vargas for Severino.

1:22
Madison: Can you clarify for me? SwSt% is % of strikes that are swinging. Whiff% is % of swings that are whiffs. Two different metrics, and Whiff% would be a larger sample of data

1:22
Eno Sarris: No. Swinging strikes are all whiffs over all pitches, so bigger sample. Whiffs are whiffs divided by swings.

1:22
Danimal: When the next eno edition of sleeper and bust?

1:22
Eno Sarris: Today. Almost always today.

1:22
Moltar: Dan Murphy, future hitting coach? Did he fix Zimmerman?

1:22
Eno Sarris: I see that launch angle creeping up.

1:24
Eno Sarris: I saw this guy when I was too young to print here, had a beer in my hand, was going to talk to a young lady of my age bracket, in Jamaica, and then in a moment of self doubt I dropped the beer on a rock and everyone looked at me and I died a little inside. Sweet show though.

1:24
Argo: How long until Conforto plays every day?

1:24
Eno Sarris: In the short term future, now! Duda hurt. He might make this happen now, and play CF the rest of the way. I’m buying/holding.

1:25
Eno Sarris: He has super sweet launch angle and exit velo combos when he’s healthy.

1:25
Joe: Did last night’s end of tigers rays game bury the real storyline about how terrible KRod is now

1:25
Eno Sarris: He bad.

1:25
Diadem: crude dudes nude ludes nude dudes crude ludes lude dudes crude nude

1:25
Matt: Did you know that your Name of the Year winner this year is Botes Boats? If you didn’t, now you do.

1:26
Shawn: Galaxy Hops FTW!

1:26
The Ghost of Dave Stewart: True or false: the pitch tag “turbo sinker” should be a real thing

1:26
Eno Sarris: Like Britton, Dyson, Treinen style? Yes.

1:26
Robbie Ray: Any discernable changes? Dudes a roller coaster but ultimately getting the job done in that K department!

1:27
Eno Sarris: Two pitch pitcher. But I see a curve maybe. I’ll take him over Pineda if he starts throwing that curve more.

1:27
Scott: Hey Eno! Just snagged a rep job with a beer distributor in the Philly area. No question, just excited about it.

1:27
Eno Sarris: Congrats!

1:27
yo knows: Did Kershaw overreact about Anderson walking down first baseline

1:28
Eno Sarris: Man I get mad and the red veil falls around my eyes sometimes when I play ball. Whatever.

1:28
Johnny5Alive: you not buying shelby miller yet? Ks up, walks down. ERA and xFIP basically in agreement. Plus velo WAY up. I know its early, but he already has essentially matched his WAR output from last year, and he was a good pitcher just 2 years ago.

1:28
Eno Sarris: I’ve bought some Shelby Miller and am happy about it. Last year was mechanically lost for him. I think he’s where he wants to be. No changeups, but cutter/curve should be enough.

1:29
Sonny: THE ADDISON RUSSELL AWAKENING

1:29
McCutchen’s Dreads: Was I the source of his power? The timeline fits his decline…

1:29
Eno’s Boss: Hey we’re gonna need you to start coming to work 5 days a week. What do you say? We’ll have bagel Fridays.

1:29
Eno Sarris: I work six days a week and almost all day. In return I work in my underpants and my work concerns beer and baseball.

1:30
Jason: Thoughts on Sano this year? Sell after fast start or hold for breakout.

1:30
Eno Sarris: Hold. Going to hit 40 this year.

1:30
Bick: How good is Cody Reed’s stuff? Can he stick in the rotation?

1:30
Eno Sarris: I get a Robbie Ray vibe. Looking for one more pitch.

1:30
Lost: Hi Eno. I need your advice. Somehow I ended up with Mitch Moreland at 1B in a 10 team dynasty league. Shaw, Zimmerman, Holliday, Pujols, Joseph, Duda, Reynolds are available. Who would you roster?

1:30
Eno Sarris: You need two. Duda and Mitch, but wait to see how Duda’s elbow is.

1:31
John: Best beer at El Segundo Brewing?

1:31
Eno Sarris: Mayberry?

1:31
Johnny5Alive: conversation by GK&R the other night regarding innings limits… Say a pitcher has a 100 inning limit. Let’s say he pitches only 5 innings a game to make him last as many. But lets say he throws 100 pitches in those 5 innings vs. 65 pitches. Should we be more worried about pitches than innings? Like hey this guy has this limit on bullets this season?

1:31
Eno Sarris: Smart discussion. I do think *some* teams are thinking this way.

1:32
Kramer’s Friend Bob: Is there an American Stout better than a velvet merkin?

1:32
Eno Sarris: Also very good offering from Firestone Walker.

1:32
Nimble Hill Brewery: Midnight Fuggle…pretty decent stout reminiscent of a good old black and tan! Repping the sticks of northeast PA! Holla

1:32
mancheego: what does SSS mean?

1:32
Eno Sarris: Small Sample Size.

1:32
Turd Ferguson: These new team pages are probably my favorite thing FG has ever done

1:32
Eno Sarris: makes research before going into the park easy.

1:32
Jeremy: Fathead’s Head Hunter IPA – the best?

1:33
Eno Sarris: Just got their Hop JuJu and a Hoof Hearted in the mail yesterday, so I will test your assertion.

1:33
YOYOYO: That isn’t a weird sandwich, that is a torta…

1:33
Eno Sarris: Dutch Crunch tho

1:33
Cubs: Kyle Hendricks looks terrible…3 mph gone is a big deal at this point, right?

1:33
Eno Sarris: Even if it’s on purpose.

1:33
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: So apparently this entire time I was thinking this Thames guy was Marcus Thames from way back in the day. Time really does fly by as you get older.

1:33
Eno Sarris: Yes I made that mistake too!

1:33
Elvin: Landed any Born Again Yesterday yet?

1:34
Eno Sarris: Is so very good. I maybe like the first one a bit better, but this is great.

1:34
Dave: Took a $1 shot on Schebler but am tired of waiting for the BABIP to come up. Is there much in his profile keeping me from cutting?

1:34
Eno Sarris: Still hitting the ball hard (top 25% and over 91) so I’d hold.

1:34
Don Gale: Looking to snag a future closer — I have Koda and Brach now — anyone else you recommend?

1:35
Eno Sarris: Jacob Barnes and Corey Knebel, though which which which. I’m assuming you don’t meen Rosenthal and Wilson, but more young guys. Neris. Arodys I guess.

1:35
Matt: This is a stupid question, but how do I look up the exit velocity for individual hits? Aaron Judge’s homer last night, for instance.

1:35
Eno Sarris: If you go here https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search?hfPT=&hfZ=&hfGT=R%7C&hf… and then click on the icons next to Judge’s name, you’ll find it I think.

1:36
Eno Sarris: Ther’es also an app here https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed that shows the actual game so you can find everything that happened in that game.

1:36
Wooo: Nola +2 MPH on his fastball this year. Do you see a big jump coming this year?

1:36
Eno Sarris: It’s probably more +1 after adjusting for systems, but yes I love him. Always have.

1:37
Bill: Am I crazy or are Triggs and Nola pretty similar? Same weird slot, great fastball movement, and good curves.

1:37
Eno Sarris: Triggs lower slot but his hand slot makes him a little similar.

1:38
Frank: Any worries about Swanson so far? I do know he has the most Line Outs in the Majors. Bad luck?

1:38
Eno Sarris: A little worried about his contact rate. Might only be a .250 hitter. But yeah, he’ll be better.

1:38
Curtis: Favorite sell highs so far (the ones that could possibly be taken seriously)?

1:40
Eno Sarris: I keep staring a hole into Aaron Judge don’t tell him or he’ll kill me. Dunno what you can get for Bruce. Yeah the launch angle will give him 35+ homers, but the BA will come down. Not buying Avisail. I’d sell Phillips.

1:40
The Sound of BABIP: Hello, Eno my old friend. I’ve come to talk with you again. Because the world’s always shifting, my BA is soon regressing.

1:42
Let Freddie Freeman Ring!: Bellinger a better redraft stash than Urias? Do you think both are up by Memorial Day? Also, how big a FAAB ($100) bid do you make for a suddenly waivered Rich Hill?

1:42
Eno Sarris: Oh I guess Urias too. Was thinking hitters.

1:42
Eno Sarris: I was here, freshman year in high school:

1:42
Scott: Jon Gray: looked rough then hit the DL. Just some early season flukiness or should I try to unload him?

1:43
Eno Sarris: Talked with him about varying eye levels within a game. He’s sticking with the curve and even the change. I would hold as long as possible.

1:43
Lagniappe: You have high praise for Dan Warthan and his teaching of the slider. Met’s pitchers are as a whole, the unhealthiest pitchers in MLB. Is Warthan’s slider the root cause?

1:43
Eno Sarris: It’s possible, but not because of the slider itself. It seems that the source of the most stress on the arm is velocity, from the most recent research. So they average the most velocity on the slider in baseball…

1:44
Wooo: where i find launch angles doog?

1:44
Eno Sarris: baseballsavant.mlb.com under Statcast Search

1:45
Bourque: Something something Blake Trienen. I’ll be the first to admit that I over invested in him, draft day was the day he was named closer and the Eno hype was real! Can’t win em all I suppose

1:45
Eno Sarris: He’s a very good pitcher that ran into his achilles heal at the wrong moment, I guess.

1:45
Wooo: not enough ludes need moar! MOAR I SAY!!!!!!!!!

1:45
JVizzle: Who’s Kakie Bryan?

1:45
tom: TDA… OMG.

1:45
Gub Gub: What is the worst sports injury you’ve ever had?

1:46
Eno Sarris: If you know what happens in a sports hernia, that makes me quiver in a bad way. But Beltre’s cracked nut probably worse.

1:46
Squilliam: Is this who Peraza is? Would a move down in the lineup actually help him?

1:46
Eno Sarris: A ton in common with Billy Hamilton. Can’t believe they got two of him.

1:46
JV: Bruce Maxwell..have you liked what you have seen from him? +/- drs guy?

1:47
Eno Sarris: Good framer, talked to him this week. Comes to park thinking about catching first. But got more aggressive recently and added some power to good patience. Watch this space.

1:47
Josh: With all of the publicly-available PitchFX data, how far are we from getting pitcher and pitch comps? Or am I just missing them? Seems like, between release locations, velo, break information, etc., it should not be hard to say “Joe’s stuff is similar to Bob” or “Joe tweaked his slider in the offseason and now it’s like Bob’s.”

1:47
Eno Sarris: Sullivan and I do those a lot in our pieces.

1:48
Rasta: Is Matt Harvey a sell high or hold?

1:48
Eno Sarris: Sell high. Velo not back and filling up the zone might lead to more homers and hard contact at 93.

1:48
HappyFunBall: Nomar Mazara’s had a nice start. Do you think the power spike is legit? If it is, that would make him a top-____ mixed league OF?

1:48
Eno Sarris: I crush on that guy. Gonna hit .300/30 soon. Not sure if this year, but that has to be a top 30 type OF.

1:49
HP: do MLB players like craft beer?

1:49
Eno Sarris: A few. Plouffe. Knebel. Morrow.

1:49
Mark: When discussing plate discipline which numbers are better/more consistent year-to-year: Standard or PitchFX?

1:49
Eno Sarris: I use PitchFX

1:49
jj: it has not been cold here in denver.

1:50
Eno Sarris: It was a guess, and i did mean colder than later in the year! Their pitching is also better than usual.

1:50
Doug: If a fastball goes from 10 inches of vertical movement to 8 inches (per Brooks) is that adding more or less movement?

1:50
Eno Sarris: Less ride, so not great for a four-seamer. But you’ll have to compare to some other people on his team because movement numbers are off right now.

1:50
Barry: To further your Eickhoff take, he a slightly better version of Shoemaker given NL or you still take Shoe?

1:50
Eno Sarris: Rather Eickhoff.

1:51
LA Blue: Anything to Yonder Alonso putting the ball in the air more and maybe breaking out?

1:51
Eno Sarris: Yes, told me he was going to do it, did it, is doing it. I think most of his numbers are sustainable right now, though his BABiP may come down a bit at his launch angle.

1:51
Rasta: JMont is in your top __is SP’s right now

1:51
Eno Sarris: 70

1:51
#BantheWave: I’ve seen Pineda throw a great changeup before with darting movement. Believe it was his 17 SO (?) game against the O’s last year. Or did I dream that?

1:52
Eno Sarris: It flashes plus plus. It lives minus.

1:52
JR: What are the greatest causes of a top pitching prospect never developing into a starter and ending up in the pen? Lack of a 3rd pitch to get opposite handed batters out? Lack of command? Lack of endurance/stamina?

1:52
Eno Sarris: 3rd pitch, then command, then stamina.

1:52
Weedpuller: Ozuna– Breakout or bubble?

1:52
Eno Sarris: Healthy. Breakout.

1:53
Buying Opportunity: Handkerchiefs are coming back into style. I have an opportunity for you to be part of something big. Invest now and

1:53
hscer: found LA, but it’s not a very customizable chart http://m.mlb.com/statcast/leaderboard#avg-hit-velo

1:53
Biff: Someone just offered me Fransisco Lindor, Eric Thames and Matt Harvey for Noah Syndergaard and Familia. Is he seeing something I’m not? Seems like a ludicrous overpay or a troll. Mets are atrocious so I don’t watch them.

1:53
Eno Sarris: Thor best in deal and he thinks he’s selling real high on Thames, but even though I said sell Harvey I might take this deal if you have a decent #2 starter.

1:54
Jason: Sorry just catching up, and my jaw dropped on the Thames is now valued at Yelich levels.

1:54
Eno Sarris: Thames’ projections always had him super high, and his rest of season projections haven’t actually moved that hard from what they were.

1:54
Pat: How do I make sense of the new movement numbers

1:55
Eno Sarris: I don’t know. I was trying to compare pitches off the fastball, but apparently that’s not foolproof. I guess I’d compare them to other pitchers on the same team.

1:56
Eno Sarris: I was here for this! I sent my wife a drunken video text of it and she didn’t love it.

1:56
John Stamos: I want man-buttered everything

1:56
Roids: Rank these hitters please…Bird, Souza, Mancini, Bell, Healy

1:57
Eno Sarris: Bird Souza Healy

1:57
away fries: Best unsung meat?

1:57
Eno Sarris: I don’t think Al Pastor did a lot of singing in its life.

1:57
5 Run Homer: To be fair, Schwarber’s bunt the other night was great

1:57
Chris Sale: I’m throwing a no-no today, btw

1:57
Eno Sarris: fifth inning

1:57
Wily Dames: naan for sandwich bread?

1:57
Eno Sarris: love it

1:58
Question: How do hand injuries affect hitting? Thinking of buying low on Correa

1:58
Eno Sarris: I think they’re a little better than wrist and elbow injuries, if I remember Zimmerman’s research best. Try googling his name and Hardball times and power and injuries.

1:59
A. Reitz: Can we stop w/ the “I really like what Cashman did w/ the Yankees” stuff…he got lucky in a market where 2 WIN NOW teams were willing to over pay unbelievable prices for closers.

1:59
Eno Sarris: A. That’s not the only reason they are good now. B. I mean, he made those trades, they still exist.

2:00
Steve: Were you impressed with Joe Ross’s start?

2:01
Eno Sarris: Good stuff. Wish he threw more changeups.

2:01
Roids:

2:02
Bryan: Two big powerful man: what do the final lines for Sano and Judge look like?

2:02
Eno Sarris: More homers for Sano, better BA for Judge.

2:02
Gorky: Avisail Garcia: a simple yea or nay will suffice, good sir…

2:02
Eno Sarris: nay

2:02
KLUBOT: Welcome, my son, to the machine!

2:02
Snarfle: Rap dudes in puffy coats doing a song about how great the number 7 is.

2:02
Eno Sarris: I made it to the last page!!

2:03
Anthony: Through your work talking to minor-league players, did you find anybody whom you like more than the consensus scouting community?

2:04
Eno Sarris: Bought all the Mookie shares after talking to him (funny thing now is that he’s clammed up some). Love love Clint Frazier. Musgrove was smart.

2:05
#BantheWave: Heading to NYC for the weekend with the fiancee. Any insight on places to go food/drink wise? (Shot in dark)

2:06
Eno Sarris: Threes Brewing, Ginger Man for beer. If you want some great chinese food for not that much, order off the ‘fresh chicken menu’ (dont’ ask) at Grand Sichuan in chelsea.

2:06
bathroom: welcome to the bathroom

2:06
Joey Votto: I’m walkin’ here!

2:06
CaptainPeanutbutter: re few players getting busted for peds, couldn’t that just as easily mean the MLB testing is doing a poor job of catching people and it’s only the ones who make mistakes that get busted?

2:07
Eno Sarris: It is weird that the ones getting caught are getting caught for old stuff, but there are a few getting caught for stuff we haven’t heard of before. It’s an arms race.

2:07
BrotherMan: I think about Augie Ojeda way more than I should

2:07
Ryan: Is Jar Jar Binks a sith lord

2:07
Eno Sarris: yes

2:08
AntManBee: Tip for making sure Sporer and your audios sync to same volume levels: speak into waxed paper

2:08
Eno Sarris: I think we got it. New software!

2:08
hscer: a week later, zim’s launch angle is 11.4; i don’t know what it was for your comment last week. 7.6 last year. where does he need to be to sustain a return to his old ~120 wRC+ level?

2:08
Eno Sarris: I think 11 is perfect, 11-14 or so. 10-25 is line drives, but if you average 20, too many over 30.

2:09
Zorah: Collins schedule.

12:00 Whisky for bfast, tell conforto he’s not starting

2pm Tell reed he is off limits

9pm Conforto pinch hits for reed

2:09
Eno Sarris: LOL

2:09
Padilla Eephus: Hey Eno: what’s your take on Archie Bradley? Is he a longman? Closer material? Starter? Have you noticed anything different other than increased velocity? Any pitch mix changes?

2:09
Eno Sarris: closer material

2:09
Eno Sarris: Okay I have to work now! Chatwood piece for tomorrow! hot stuff! thanks for hanging out.

So how’d the refried beans turn out on the sandwich?
