Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 5/18/17

1:25
Eno Sarris: hey this is nice and mellow unlike my life

12:03
Eno Sarris: I”M HERE HOLE ON

12:03
Kiermaier’s Piercing Green Eyes: The league made sure that the sanctity of baseball was protected and that Brad Miller will no longer use his contraband pink bat after his illegal 3-5 performance on Monday. This feels like a missed opportunity for the league. Why can’t players get whatever color they want, lightsaber style? Cespedes could get a neon bat to pair with that garish arm sleeve, players could use colors to support causes, sons of former big leaguers could honor pop by using the same color…seems like an easy marketing opportunity and chance to add more personality to the game.

12:03
Eno Sarris: Because tradition is our mission.

12:03
Greg: So it looks like Freddie Freeman’s wrist is probably fractured. Any long terms concerns with any injury like that?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Yes. Hamate problems sap power, wrist is pretty bad for that sort of thing.

12:04
MarinerDan: Pour one out for Chris Cornell!

12:04
Eno Sarris: NOOOOOOOOO

12:04
Eno Sarris:

12:04
Eno Sarris: I really really liked them as an early teenager.

12:04
2-D: What did Samardzija mean when he said games are scripted? Starter and bullpen usage?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Background: Samardzija was ranting a bit to me the other day that the game is too scripted and over coached, that there isn’t as much fun and unpremeditated individuality. I responded that he sounded old and what did he complain about as a young player and he said “day games.” He said that he wished players could go out there without the scouting reports, throw low and away for strike one and see where the game goes. He thought there should be more balls in play because people at the game have no idea what each pitch type is, even with the gun’s help, and that they want to see people “throw the ball away, fall down, run around.”

12:07
John: is E5 broken? Is Schwarber really just a left-handed Mike Napoli as has been said? Will Kyle Hendricks finish 2017 with a sub 3 ERA?

12:07
Eno Sarris: No, no, no.

12:07
The Decadent Moose: Smoked some beer last night. Drank some 12th of Never from a firkin, too. Gonna try to wash this hippy dank off before the Mike Watt/Meat Puppets show Friday.

12:07
Eno Sarris: Hop vaping is a thing, y’all, and it looks strange.

12:07
Boss Man: Hearing anything on the new and improved(?) Carson Fulmer?

12:08
Eno Sarris: Very few swinging strikes in the minors this year. Could be a control and ground ball guy? maybe.

12:08
Rusty: I am Rusty.

12:08
Eno Sarris: It’s okay dude just get back on the horse and it’ll come back to you.

12:08
Big Tuna: There are some members of my league that seem hellbent on keeping W over QS. Is there a surefire argument I can make to convince them? So far logic hasn’t seemed to work.

12:08
Eno Sarris: QS only marginally better anyway, fight another fight.

12:09
Rich: Drop Urias, Berrios, Ray or Maeda to pick up Godley?

12:10
Eno Sarris: No, no, maybe, yes.

12:10
Eno Sarris: Godley’s change has some upside, not much wiggle, but good drop and decent velo gap. Curve is sexy. Cutter maybe.

12:10
CamdenWarehouse: In all of last week’s discussion on the place of ties in baseball, I’m really surprised that no one was advocating for more managers to dress like Connie Mack.

12:11
Eno Sarris: I think it’s sorta ridiculous that we wheel guys like Bobby Cox out there in a uniform.

12:11
Cubs Dude: The Salumi Piccante from Pastoral Artisan in Chicago. Best sandwich in town. Calabrese salami, podda cheese, giardiniera, greens, house mayo on baguette

12:11
Eno Sarris: Daaaaaaaaaaaamn see you in July

12:11
Superfly: Poor Freddie 🙁

12:11
Kyle: Kid Keuchy still doing work!

12:12
Eno Sarris: I honestly didn’t see this coming, and there is a whiff of unsustainability about it. Not just the strand rate and things like that — the idea that he can keep batters swinging when he never throws in the zone kinda boggles my mind. Look at Liriano’s ups and downs, that’s his closes comp in zone%. But Keuchel has command and Liriano doesn’t, I guess.

12:13
spencer: who gets call first- rosario or brinson?

12:14
Eno Sarris: The need is bigger for Rosario. The team keeps claiming they won’t, but I think things magically change in two to three weeks.

12:14
2-D: Would you rather have Bautista or EE RoS?

12:14
Eno Sarris: EE

12:14
Murse Wigwam: In case anyone was wondering about the vintage door from last week, I had to admit….it was pretty nice. (Hate it when that happens)

12:14
Eno Sarris: Wives always win.

12:14
Murse Wigwam: Care to speculate on Atlanta’s 1B options?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Ryan Howard?

12:15
Asdrubal: Still in on Chase Anderson? Looks like he’s been using the cutter less.

12:16
Eno Sarris: Bet the scouting report caught up because he was more into the fastballs. I don’t think he should throw a lot of fastballs. He’s like a 75-80 guy.

12:16
Asdrubal: Thoughts on JC Ramirez as the SS rate goes down but the results stay good?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Getting comfortable with the sinker, I guess. Hopefully that means he’s commanding it more. He was throwing more breakers than fastballs for a long time, now it’s a more conventional 50/50… I like him in that 60-70 range.

12:17
Superfly: Did you ever have white guy dreads?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Never could go for it.

12:18
Eno Sarris: There’s something a little weird to me about it because it’s like a religious thing where I was born. And I’m not a rasta.

12:19
Asdrubal: So… What is Eddie Butler now? Looks like he used the slider a lot.

12:20
Eno Sarris: I … don’t know. I’m not that into it as a big time slider guy trying to go for ground balls, though. Doesn’t have great command. Velo is good, I’d pick up in the deepest of leagues I guess.

12:21
Eno Sarris: It’s a hard change now, with some movement… small gap, I doubt it.

12:21
Sim: Do you see Knebel sticking as the closer in Milwaukee?

12:21
Eno Sarris: I like Barnes, but yes Knebel is good.

12:21
RotoLando: Is it time to completely write-off Jung Ho Kang, even in deep dynasty leagues?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Man I’m still holding in my deepest. He has a couple key dates coming up this year.

12:22
Asdrubal: Karns is pumping his curve in there a lot, is he pomeranzing?

12:23
Eno Sarris: I love it. It’s a great curve. It’s he hardest it’s ever been now too. Change has been the best it’s been too. Definite pickup. 50-60 rank.

12:23
Al: A) Do you think this is a good time to sell high on Darvish? Am a little concerned about the decreased K-BB% and a possible trade to an even worse home park (NYY/COL). B) Any idea what kind of 3B I might target for such a trade? 7×7 league with OBP and 2B’s for hitters and QS and HR allowed for pitchers. C) Do I need to switch to decaf?

12:23
Eno Sarris: I might only trade him in a dynasty. I think he could have Cy worthy season this year.

12:24
Asdrubal: Any sleeper prospects you’re stashing in dynasty leagues?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Tyler Krieger, Forrest Wall, Jasrado Chisholm, Miguelangel Sierra, Mike Soroka, Triston McKenzie, Takahiro Norimoto. Don’t at me if you think some of these are studs and not sleepers, I don’t care.

12:25
Marcus Banks: Jason Vargas fell back into mediocrity last night

12:25
Eno Sarris: p hard

12:25
Buff: Is Raimel Tapia a major league starter? In Colorado?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Not big on him. Weird ass player at the plate.

12:25
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: Thoughts on Firestone Walker’s Parabola? Also, how is October doing?

12:26
Eno Sarris: Always like Parabola, super smooth. Haven’t had this year’s. Great! Growing slowly, events are super fun. Going to an October dinner tonight, going to announce an LA show later this month pretty soon, and I’ll be there.

12:27
Pikup Androppov: When Brent gets the call later this summer will he do Honey-well Honey-bad or just Honey-ok?

12:27
Eno Sarris: Honey-well I think. I guess if nobody swings and he walks the lineup, that might be a problem, but I think he can fire it near the zone. Park will help smooth out some of the command issues. Not Snellian with the command.

12:27
Keith Hernandez: Eno – Got a chance to have a Cigar City Jai Alai on draft up here in NJ this past weekend. It did not disappoint.. thanks to you and Beergraphs for the recommendation!

12:27
Eno Sarris: It’s a classic!

12:28
Domingo Santana: Am I now a singles hitter like Ichiro?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Still hitting too many balls on the ground, but hitting them hard. Be he hits 25 this year though.

12:29
Frank: The way the Orioles treat Hyun Soo Kim is very strange right? It’s like he’s still never recovered from that hitless streak in spring training last season.

12:29
Eno Sarris: It’s possible that they just see his defense as really bad, which would make him a one-tool (OBP) guy.

12:29
OddBall Herrera: Alonso has gone two weeks since his last hit that wasn’t a homer…sure, he changed his FB% but that home run rate seems really fluky, no?

12:29
Eno Sarris: No, I think it’s the BABIP we have to worry about. Moved the launch angle so far that he shouldn’t have a plus BABIP.

12:31
Joey: Verlander… Velo is up for all his pitches. But SwSt% is down and results aren’t good. Is this another slow start or something more like a decline?

12:32
Eno Sarris: I think velo more steady than up if you look at Brooks. I think he’ll right the walk rate and be good if not vintage.

12:33
Pikup Androppov: Any hope for Matt Moore or is he basically just a tee that can walk people at this point?

12:33
Eno Sarris: The cutter has helped his command and hurt his whiffs. I think he should dial that pitch back just a bit. Man that reminds me I never wrote up our conversation about the cutter. Not enough hours in the day.

12:33
Electronic Strike Zone: I’m creeping up on youse…

12:34
Eno Sarris: Get ready for 80% breaking ball pitchers.

12:35
Eno Sarris: Well there’s Kang news! Welp, he lost the appeal. “Kang, due to the suspended sentence, can avoid jail time if he is on his best behavior over the next two years. But it’s quite possible that he won’t play baseball in the U.S. again.”

12:35
clubwart: say the rays are hovering around .500 come trade deadline, and they get there by doing largely what they’ve been doing up to this point: TTO’ing the hell out of the league, solid to above average starting pitching, and mediocre to abysmal relief pitching that costs them games. do you think they push in to get an elite-ish reliever, given the market, or do they forego this year? i can’t help but get frustrated knowing that, if games ended in the 6th inning, their record would be something like 21 – 9

12:35
Eno Sarris: Maybe more likely that they try Faria or someone out of the pen and capture magic that way.

12:36
Tumbler, Whiskey: Secret Aardvark is the best hot sauce on the market

12:36
Eno Sarris: Also decent band name.

12:36
James: So, Luis Perdomo is looking like an unlikely Rule 5 success story. What does he look like going forward? Is he a legit mid rotation arm?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Great sinker. What else?

12:36
Darth V: Who do you see closing in Seattle until Diaz is right?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Thought it would be Zych. Teams don’t usually use lefties. But Pazos has great velo and K%, so it could be him. I think it’ll be Diaz eventually.

12:38
Luzinski’sSweatyGooch: Every time I hear words come out of Bill Ripkin’s mouth I’m overcome with the urge to punch him in the neck. Is that wrong?

12:38
Eno Sarris: As I tell my two year old, “we don’t hit people.” I might make an exception for Mad Dog though.

12:39
Keith Hernandez: I have quite a few guys who have had early success that may or may not be sustainable… Duffy, Morton, Cobb, and Vargas. Who should I be looking to flip at this point while their value is relatively high?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Vargas Cobb for anything you like, Add Duffy if you get something special.

12:39
Darth V: Do you really see B Norris keeping the closer gig?

12:39
Eno Sarris: I mean, not if Bedrosian is healthy, but Bedrosian seems to have a hard time with that.

12:40
adam: if i eat too much kashi. good lord

12:40
Gub Gub: Eno Chat – it’s hard to match it, much like getting hit with a hatchet

12:40
Moltar: As a Freeman owner, I just want to say waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

12:40
Eno Sarris: That’s a decent interlude! There were bodily functions, violence, and crying, like an old an old John Woo movie.

12:41
DB: Eno! Just had my first Pliny the Elder last night, was worth the wait. How do you feel about David Phelps now that there are rumours of him moving to the rotation. Worth an add in all 12+ team mixers?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Decent buy. 65-70 type. Want to see how many changeups he throws, what his whiff rate will look like.

12:42
Paul D: Drop K-Rod in an AL-only 4×4? Zych, Joe Smith, Matt Barnes best available non-closers.

12:42
Eno Sarris: Zych or Pazos I guess.

12:42
adam: but really tho is freddie free the weirdest shaped player

12:43
Eno Sarris: Yes. “Freddie Freeman looks awkward. Freddie Freeman swings awkward. Freddie Freeman is awkward. Freddie Freeman can hit.” was the first thing I ever heard a scout say about him.

12:43
daro: Bellinger a good replacement for Freeman? Im so pissed off with this injury. Price Haniger and now Freeman…

12:43
Eno Sarris: Yes, pick up Bellinger.

12:43
Eno Sarris: Top 10 in launch angle, top 15 in fly ball EV.

12:43
Dozier some nice Hanigers: Will Joc Pederson be starting everyday in August?

12:43
Eno Sarris: Never every day. Platoon player.

12:44
Bork: With two of the most level-headed pitchers, Stroman and Teheran pitching tonight, how many people get beaned tonight in the ATL-TOR game?

12:45
Eno Sarris: Hoping zero.

12:45
FreeBelt: I know you recently spent time around the Giants clubhouse. As a Belt fan and Belt Wars veteran, I find it fascinating when he becomes the scapegoat for any struggle the team is having. Have you ever spoken to him about that and if it affects him in any way?

12:45
Eno Sarris: Not about that specifically, but I do know he gets down, it’s a thing you can see in his body language. That’s okay, I would too.

12:46
another bad dynasty manager: I’m stashing Cotton on my bench, b/c I read somewhere he’s been tipping his pitches. It’s a deep keeper league (16 tms) so there isn’t much available. Am I making a mistake for holding him on my bench?

12:46
Eno Sarris: I’m holding in similar situations even as I drop in shallower leagues.

12:46
Scooby: Eno, would LOVE to have you rank these SPs ROS: Lackey, Roark, Andriese, JC Ramirez, Karns, Godley. In a 12-teamer, where would you draw the line between roster-worthy and streamer? Thanks!

12:48
Eno Sarris: Lackey Roark not streamers. JC R, Karns, ZG, on the line. MA streamer type in most leagues. I know MA looks decent but I’m not starting him in Boston or New York.

12:48
Moltar: For real, Freeman was like my entire offense. If he is out 10 weeks as reported, is that basically the end for his season? If I’m going for it, should I try to flip him even though he’s a prized keeper asset at his price?

12:49
Eno Sarris: IF you can stay afloat, getting him in August and September could be huge.

12:49
Bella Hadid’s Panties: Samardzija’s warmup routine sucks. It’s totally unscripted, which is partly why he’s inconsistent.

12:50
Eno Sarris: Maybe. He did say that he spends some time figuring out what he’s got that day in the game, and that he’s getting better at in-game adjustments on the fly. Just that kind of guy, I guess. I like the sinker/slider/split guy he’s been this year.

12:50
Oddball Herrera: Know you were a Soler guy in the past, think he could still pull an Ozuna now that he has regular playing time?

12:51
Eno Sarris: Too many whiffs, has a hard time with breaking balls.

12:52
Eno Sarris: okay one more

12:52
J.D.: Rich Hill had a great curveball, threw it way more, became awesome. Does same apply for a changeup? Or is it more reliant on at least a touch of fastball usage to be effective?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Maybe for the hard change, the super sinker type. But the Estrada/Clippard straight change? I think if it was thrown more than 50% of the time, people would start sitting on it.

12:52
Dom: Odor is still so young. Can he get a hold of whatever is happening to him? know you’re a fan

12:53
Eno Sarris: Too many fly balls? Leading to too many pop-ups. Not going to have a great BA this year, but maybe he learns from it a bit.

12:53
Andy: Michael Conforto- budding superstar or more of a 3WAR guy?

12:53
Eno Sarris: Budding superstar. Elite balls in play.

12:53
Colin: Prefer Jordan Montgomery or Ryu for a spot start today?

12:54
Eno Sarris: JM

12:54
Edwin: Yo Decadent Moose – Saw Watt & Puppets two nights ago in Philly. Watt kicks ass and Puppets have turned into a half-jam band with accompanying highs & lows (be warned)

12:55
Buff: You reminded me. Mixed metaphor of the week (courtesy Terry Collins): We need to rise from the ashes and get back on the horse.

12:56
botchatheny: According to beat writer Mark Bowman of MLB.com, Freddie Freeman will likely miss 8-10 weeks if his left wrist is fractured.

12:56
Eno Sarris: Is that still an if in there? That’s not super helpful.

12:56
Blooptron: Have you ever been to Florida for minor league ball? It turns out there is a lot of beer there.

12:56
Eno Sarris: Funky Buddha! Wynwood and the walls crew in Miami! And then ALL of Tampa.

12:57
Matt: Eno in Chicago in July? When and where?! FG or October….or both!?

12:57
Eno Sarris: I always come to pitchfork fest, will do a meetup.

12:58
Bruce: Is it OK for me to wear a Romper? Asking for a friend

12:58
Eno Sarris: I will never ever.

12:58
Incoherent Sobbing: Which breakout bat to replace Freddie – Smoak or Dickerson?

12:58
Eno Sarris: Dickerson.

12:58
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: So is grunge officially dead? Kurt, Layne, now Chris…someone call Theo to make sure Eddie Vedder is okay.

12:58
Eno Sarris: Well Vedder doesn’t really seem to be so grunge any more, I mean he’s all growed up at least.

12:59
Gest : Espn’s gametracker had Harvey popping some 97s and 98s and even some 92 sliders. It’s almost eerie that in spring training Warthen said Harvey’s velo wouldn’t be back until the end of May. Do you think that his stuff is coming back and do you think his next step is to command his developing pitches?

12:59
Eno Sarris: I think what we’re learning is that he never had great command. But if he’s pumping gas in the zone, maybe there’s still hope. I remain confounded.

12:59
Eno Satirist: I have Story, Braun, and donaldson on the DL, who do I drop between Justin turner, Cesar Hernandez, Polanco (now on DL), Odubel Herrera, Brandon Belt, and Brandon Crawfrod? I cant drop matt carpenter, votto, conforto or judge

1:00
Eno Sarris: Crawford. I hate this year for DL reasons.

1:00
Eno Sarris: Just found that DL usage is up 50%, and have added 50% more DL slots in two of my leagues, with unanimous votes in approval.

1:00
Tim Tebow’s Thunder Thighs: Voila! The Cheeseburger Casserole I mentioned a couple of chats ago: http://imgur.com/a/rxGGk

1:01
Eno Sarris: Afraid to click.

1:01
Eno Sarris: okay serious question how is this better than a cheeseburger with fries

1:01
MarinerDan: Eddie Butler — does he stick in the Cubs rotation? If so, thoughts on his performance ROS?

1:01
Eno Sarris: Sixth starter.

1:02
Joe, Esq.: Zimmer here to stay? Or once the guys Jackson and Guyer are back he goes back down to get more seasoning*?

*Note: seasoning is equivalent to avoiding super-2 in this instance.

1:02
Eno Sarris: He could play his way into the fulltime CF gig even when those guys are up. I’d rather play chisenbutt in the corners with Guyer, and have Jax as the backup and maybe just let Almonte go.

1:02
Jacob h cornhole: What pitching stat in your opinion holds the most predictive value for performance. Admittedly, I’m not too familiar with the equations for fip xfip & siera

1:03
Eno Sarris: Velocity, pitching mix, swinging strike rate.

1:03
Kris: “just a LH Napoli”? That’s a pretty good outcome, no?

1:04
Help!: I like(d?) all my pitchers (deGrom, Wood, Maeda, Nola, Walker, Montgomery, Diaz, Chapman, Cahill). Now I am sitting on a FAT 4.5/1.35. My offense is doing well. When should I freak out and trade my Thames of the world for pitching?

1:04
Eno Sarris: Yeah just didn’t like the derogatory way it was put! (for Napoli thing)

1:05
Eno Sarris: I still like your pitching. Wait for Nola return, watch deG, think he can be fine….

1:05
5 Run Homer: Ryan Howard got released a while back 🙁

1:05
Eno Sarris: oh well maybe they bring up Rio Ruiz and play Adonis at first? I really dunno.

1:05
Bleh: hey Kershaw’s slider looked better!

1:05
Eno Sarris: yeah I think it’s back.

1:05
Alex: How can us semi-casual fans figure out when a pitcher is suddenly breaking out and when he’s just riding a hot streak? I know FIP and all that but what are the actual changes that are most likely to lead to increased success?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Look at his pitching mix changes.

1:06
Eno Sarris: breakouts almost always come with a big change in mix.

1:06
JJP: Mike Leake keeps putting up great games. My gut says trade him but he’s outpitching Harvey on my roster. Trade them both?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Man that might get you an interesting pitcher as a buy low sell high combo. I don’t really believe in Leake but he does have plus command, which is lacking today.

1:07
Day Man: Sounds like Shark isn’t exactly a sabermetrics guy

1:08
Eno Sarris: And yet he’s my best bud in the Giants clubhouse.

1:08
Brett: What you think of Pinthouse’s Electric Jellyfish? My favorite beer in Austin thus far!

1:08
Eno Sarris: Really great. And somehow the name actually gets across some of the taste. A little bit tart/electric and then pineapple playing the role of a jellyfish. It makes sense, I promise.

1:09
5 Run Homer: Why haven’t we seen a stat come out that evaluates players on a 0-100 scale like all the sports video games?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Eh, 0-100 bunches things up at 100 in a weird way.

1:09
Guest: Alonso a top 10 1B going forward?

1:09
Eno Sarris: More like 12-14.

1:09
Alex: Any concerns about Paxton’s performance once he comes off the DL?

1:09
Eno Sarris: No

1:09
Short on power: What type of middle infielder could I trade Justin Turner for? Any idea where his pop went?

1:10
Eno Sarris: Talked to him about it and he wasn’t worried, and I don’t know that I am. Still hitting fly balls — more actually — and doing well with them. He said he starts slow for whatever reason.

1:10
Mark: Terminator vs Robocop

1:10
Eno Sarris: I didn’t wait in line for two hours for any Robocop movie

1:11
Help!: Montas is starting to pitch really well. Any way he gets closer gig or Oakland to cheap for that?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Eh they don’t keep guys that get expensive, they might do it. But it’s a committee. Anyway I do like Montas the reliever.

1:11
eno noir: arrieta still bothering me. Do i deal him and beltran for murphy (murph might have a little keeper value next year). Or arrieta for k seager? or maybe arrieta/ramos for justin turner/broxton/samardjiza? sorry about the multitude of options but it’s an active league

1:11
Eno Sarris: Like Murph then Seager options.

1:12
biffyclyro: What was the last sandwich you made that would’ve impressed the judges on Chopped? (random ingredients, delicious result)

1:15
Eno Sarris: Turkey, soppresatta, gruyere, cucumber, strawberries and salt and pepper on baguette? Or the London Broil, Havarti, tomato, cool ranch doritos and bbq sauce? ooh ooh the dry rub tri tip with melted gruyere, caramelized onions, curry lentils on ciabatta!

1:16
Bob: ROS Hedges, Martin or Rupp? Thanks!

1:16
Eno Sarris: hedges I guess.

1:16
Steve McQueen: I get what Smardj is saying – my 14 year old is a catcher and is on two teams… one where the coaches call each pitch and utilize a buttload of bunting, and one where they don’t. Guess which one he likes best?

1:16
John: I had both dreads and followed phish for several years, Eno. No question here, just agreeing with you. In retrospect it was totally the purposeful formation of an image and I certainly wasn’t living by Rasta principles at the time LOL

1:17
Eno Sarris: Which is actually cool, I have friends who had dreads forever. Brought one of them to Jamaica, though, and the Rastas had a hard time with the fact that he shaved his face. YOU MUSS NOT SHYAVE YO FACE. There’s power in you preceps!

1:17
2-D: I do remember Samardzija saying his split gets classified as a slider and his cutter gets classified as a fastball. How right do you think the tracking systems are getting it overall?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Better now, my questions all lined up with what he’s doing. He’s not turning his back to the batter as much any more, and that robbed him of his cutter, but gave him more drop on the slider and split.

1:19
Sam: Okay but Aaron Hicks looks really real.

1:19
Eno Sarris: yes, yes he does.

1:20
Eno Sarris:

1:20
Scruffy-Looking Nerf Hurler: Do you see any flags in Marcel Ozuna’s play? Seems like he’s taken a BIG step forward

1:21
Eno Sarris: He had an injury in the second half last year, he’s been doing this and now he’s healthier.

1:21
Big Tuna: Sorry to ask this twice, but really going back and forth in my head: Would you trade Inciarte and Sonny Gray for Brad Miller and Gamel in an OPS league?

1:21
Eno Sarris: Nah, I like Inciarte. Getting steals with some okay SLG is hard to do.

1:21
Toast: Any chance the Braves move Phillips to 1B and call up Albies?

1:22
Eno Sarris: oh hey now that’s fun. Doubt it, but jump on Albies if you need steals and hear this is happening.

1:22
StanFran: What to expect from CArroyo ROS? Is he the 3rd baseman now, and can he actually hit?

1:22
Eno Sarris: he’ll strike out less, but I don’t know about his power. Duffy had more power.

1:22
CW: Trade Springer for EE

1:22
Eno Sarris: no

1:23
Blooptron: Who is the most recent player you’ve picked up off the waiver wire?

1:23
Eno Sarris: Bam Bam Mancini? And Juan Nicaso. But those were because DL slots opened up spots for role players.

1:23
Sawx Fan: What to do with Gsellman? Cut bait for Stripling, Butler, Nelson? NL-only is extremely thin.

1:24
Eno Sarris: Nelson doing better, he’s about as interesting as G.

1:24
kevinthecomic: google images of tommy lasorda in a uniform, but do it on an empty stomach

1:24
Eno Sarris: is what I’m saying

1:24
Larry: Whats up with Eickhoff walking so many dudes

1:24
Eno Sarris: Doesn’t actually have great command. I’m revising down to like 60-65.

1:25
Moltar: Is Smoak for real enough that I should avoid trading for a Freeman replacement and pick him up instead?

1:25
Eno Sarris: Yes! His xSLG is .505, so even with some regression, he’ll be better than projections.

1:25
Borksadork: Look into that crystal ball of yours and tell me when Herrera is getting dealt….I need saves from Soria!

1:26
Eno Sarris: Could Nationals buy Herrera and Soria at same time haha

1:26
CamdenWarehouse: The Orioles are a team willing to play Trumbo in the OF and a converted 1b has been getting reps in LF. They can’t view Kim’s D as *that* bad.

1:26
Eno Sarris: Good point. They might just have something against Kim, maybe it’s organizational due to his response to being sent down.

1:27
Matt: Who do you comp Conforto to for his career? position be damned. Just trying to get a sense of value

1:28
Eno Sarris: Like a young Evan Longoria?

1:28
FormerIowan: Hey Eno – Where do you live that you get PseudoSue? Just 4 more weeks until I visit family from Iowa and get my yearly TG haul. Can’t wait to see their new facility when finished

1:28
Eno Sarris: Palo Alto!!

1:28
Ninja Black Sock: Alonso BABIP sits at .270 – you believe that’s unustainable?

1:28
Eno Sarris: Oh it was .320 like a week ago. Maybe .270 is fine.

1:29
Big Joey: Perdomo has a 70% GB rate!?!?!?! XFIP, SIERA look sick, is this guy a legit good starter?

1:29
Eno Sarris: The breaking ball is meh and the splitter doesnt’ show up much at all.

1:30
Lefty Driesell: What’s your take on Tanaka? Buying opportunity or stay away?

1:30
Eno Sarris: Cautious buy. Can still be a 3.75/1.2 guy going forward.

1:31
RotoLando: Tim Beckham strikes out way too much to sustain this success right?

1:31
Eno Sarris: Yes.

1:31
Stan: Help me think of a name for my Clamado-infused Imperial Stout

1:31
Eno Sarris: Bad Idea Jeans? I Woke Up Naked in Tijuana?

1:32
Lightning: Hey Eno, how do you feel about Castellanos? Lots of good contact but lots of strikeouts and can’t make contact on pitches outside the zone. Been debating between him and Conforto in an OBP keeper.

1:32
Eno Sarris: Rather have Conforto easy. I like Nick some.

1:32
Biff: you’re Sandy Alderson, the team has lost 7 straight and the season is spiraling out of control. Lucas Duda looks concussed on the field and Reyes can’t play SS anymore. Do you, with the data available, call up Amed Rosario and Dom Smith?

1:32
Eno Sarris: I call up Rosario. If I need that extra year, I send him down around the all-star break and say he needs to keep playing, and I get my two weeks back.

1:33
Scooby: You’ve mentioned Tanaka as a buy-low. You still buying?

1:33
Eno Sarris: Sure. Just a few gopher balls, don’t think he’s going to give up two a game going forward.

1:33
Kennys Vargases: Embrace the superfluous S!

1:33
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: 1989 Fleer Bill Ripken #616

1:33
CraftyPils: Every time I take a summer staycation day, Mad Dog gets me irritated to the point that I don’t even want to watch a 1pm gm.

1:33
Eno Sarris: That’s… an interlude at least.

1:34
Chucks: Best high school story regarding keeping stats for the baseball team?

1:34
Eno Sarris: I got to write down that I was 3/10 with three drag bunts in ten games? Also got to flirt with the equipment manager but she just played with me and really wanted the star of the team. So the next year I just managed the girls field hockey team and had better results.

1:35
DongTown: Healy gonna get his avg up? Or does the full time, non-platoon batting, make this .275ish hitter the new normal.

1:35
Eno Sarris: I think he’s a .275-.280 hitter yes, but I believe in 25+ HR power, and that’s a decent BA.

1:35
canofcorn66: Don’t think I’ve heard your thoughts on Jesse Hahn. Looks like he’s throwing an effective slider?

1:36
Eno Sarris: Yeah he shelved that after surgery, waiting to ask him if it’s really back.

1:36
Sebastian: The Nats closer situation is crazy. Seems like they will trade for one. Can I drop Glover and Kelley and roll with 2 closers for the time being?

1:36
Eno Sarris: I really think they will trade for one. They have in the past.

1:36
Lee: Norimoto? Please do tell…

1:37
Eno Sarris: One of the best fastball velocities in Japan, though it can get a little flat. Trying to improve the splitter, which always has more movement in America. Real nice breaking ball.

1:38
Lefty Driesell: In the spirit of John Woo, will Tanaka see a “better tomorrow” or is he “hard boiled.”

1:38
Eno Sarris: There is only one way to answer this

1:38
Eno Sarris: (to be clear: i think he sees better days going forward but that scene is NUTS)

1:38
Pat: If you were the Rangers and on July 20 you are 15+ games behind houston and 8ish games out of the WC, couldn’t you just tell Darvish “hey we are gonna trade you for some good prospects, but we want you back. Go win a ring” and the re-sign him in the off-season? Kinda like NYY w/ Chapman?

1:39
Eno Sarris: I think you might try to phrase it as a question. We really want you, do you want to go win with someone?

1:39
Eno Sarris: Sometimes it works out like this, but if you phrase it as a question you’re more likely to have the goodwill of the future free agent stud pitcher.

1:40
deGross: deGrom’s peripherals look good. You see anything that doesn’t? Top 15 sp ros?

1:40
Eno Sarris: I don’t see a problem, or I don’t get it at least. I still have him there yeah.

1:40
eno noir: got offered jose ramirez for aj ramos….i gotta take that, right? i’m just gun shy because ramirez has gone cold. ….i need some reassurance

1:40
Eno Sarris: Yeah I take that.

1:40
Pikup Androppov: Aw come on Mad Dog is the best! Or at least Dog > Mike F (yes I do recognize that is the lowest of low bars). But I grew up listening to his sanctimonious nonsense so I guess I’m a little biased

1:41
Eno Sarris: I spent a lot of time with Michael Kay and Don LaGreca and yelled at the radio some and have complicated relationships with them, so I get that a bit. But I don’t like being yelled at.

1:41
Matt: Re: Joc and also Justin Turner, low HR/fly ball, that going to normalize for sure this year or is it possible they just underperform on over the fence power all year?

1:43
Eno Sarris: HR/FB is a really noisy stat that is not very useful. Turner is doing everything right and will be fine. Joc, not so much, but I believe in him as a power/patience/D platoon OF going forward, and I don’t think they have a better defensive CF that they want to run out there this year.

1:43
Enrique Iglesias: Would you dance if I asked you to dance?

1:44
Eno Sarris:

1:44
Eno Retro Chat: Hey Eno it’s me, Jordan from class! I’m retired now. I’ve had a great career in mechanical engineering and my wife Bessie and I have 7 kids and 24 grandchildren that we’re extremely proud of.

1:44
Eno Sarris: That… that was fast.

1:44
Hannah Hochevar: I ask every chatter about Manny Machado, but no one responds. I know it’s still early, but he’s upper-cutting out of his shoes these days. (and has 5 errors). Feel like canary in coalmine.

1:44
Eno Sarris: I hate pop-ups and he’s had a problem with that his whole career. But he’s been great with pop-ups in the past, so I doubt that’s the reason he’ll fall apart.

1:44
Eno Retro Chat: waffle button activated (had rusted out but it’s good now)

1:45
Eno Sarris: PUSH IT

1:45
Babe Lincoln: It’s probably too early to say that you were wrong about Cotton. Who have you been very wrong about in the past? Very right?

1:46
Eno Sarris: John Lamb. Allen Webster. Stuff guys with minus minus minus command. Maybe have a weakness for guys like Chase Whitley — multiple offspeed pitches and poor fastballs. Right? List is pretty long. One year, in one league that kept 500 players, I drafted Dallas Keuchel, Carlos Carrasco, Jake Arrieta and Garret Richards with picks 530+.

1:47
Bruce Bocce: Any interest in Matt BYOBoyd? (ALOnly keeper, obviously)

1:47
Eno Sarris: Yes. Piece coming: dropped arm slot and now slider is legit out pitch, curve is legit different, change always has been good pitch. If I’m wrong it’s because he’s a Whitley type, but he’s a lefty at least.

1:47
Diaz: What do you see from Diaz to assume he gets job back? Just bc bullpen is bad and he’s best option. Or he’s really good and only needs to cut down walks, etc?

1:48
Eno Sarris: Best option due to being right handed, having gas, striking everyone out. I think a little tweak will get the walks down, and then it’ll be obvious he’s the guy again.

1:48
Mucho Maas: Where do we find the new minor league swstrk numbers?

1:48
Eno Sarris: Be signed in to FG, then f a round with your custom dashboard, and it’ll show up on your player pages.

1:48
Eno Retro Chat: Lyrics of the day! Remember those?!?!?

1:49
Eno Sarris: oh man that was before embedding video and nobody ever even bit on them haha.

1:49
Laroo: Your boy, Alonso, over/under game — 30hrs, 290ba… what say you Eno Sarris?

1:49
Eno Sarris: Under, but look up and he’s got .275/27 HR at end of year and you’ll be all wow.

1:49
Matt: Eduardo Rodriguez has been really good lately. What is the cause?

1:49
Eno Sarris: Dropped arm slot and got x-mov to join y-mov, improved his change to match hard slider.

1:50
Eno Retro Chat: ENO’S GOING FOR 3 HOURS TODAY YALL

1:50
Eno Sarris: Gotta go real soon.

1:50
JD15: As far as young whiffers go….Renfroe or Soler?

1:50
Eno Sarris: Renfroe.

1:50
HappyFunBall: Junior Guerra rehabbing now. Low men on my staff are Pomeranz (maddening), Severino (for real?), Triggs (mirrors?), and Nola (back injuries = no bueno) … drop any of them to speculate?

1:51
Eno Sarris: no, Guerra was 92-93, so he’s lost that plus velo FB.

1:51
CamdenWarehouse: Carson in the comment section of today’s NERD Game Scores “Hey, guys, I don’t think there’s any reason to argue here. We’re all idiots, not just one or two of us.”

1:51
Eno Sarris: I love that man.

1:51
Jordan: New Run the Jewels!

1:51
Joe: What is the best way to pull down ratios in roto with innings cap? Stack your lineup with elite relievers or fill your lineup with SP that you choose starts carefully?

1:51
Eno Sarris: Relievers.

1:51
Da Judge: Has judges season changed your projections for his floor and ceiling?

1:51
Eno Sarris: Yes.

1:52
Blooptron: Eddie Vedder is so bland now that he makes the Jerry Garcia Band look like a seizure-inducing Japanese video game

1:52
Eno Sarris: LOL

1:52
eno noir: do you not answer my Qs because i once said that Sporer was my fave……I’m sorry!!

1:53
Eno Sarris: This is page three, posted nearly an hour ago, and I didn’t even know you said that! Sorry myself! Just a lot of comments.

1:53
The Kyd: when they say bases are loaded….what do they mean

1:53
Eno Sarris: Well they also call the bases drunk so

1:53
Chin Music: People in my league are pissed I got Kenley for Duffy and Bellinger. Is that bad?

1:53
Eno Sarris: They don’t love Bellinger like I love Bellinger.

1:54
Eno Sarris:

1:54
Rodòn King Jesus: Hey Eno! When evaluating relief with small samples, what stats are you looking at?

1:54
Eno Sarris: Contact rate, velocity mostly.

1:54
Dan: Now is the obvious time to sell on Conforto and Judge, yeah? Or are you holding?

1:54
Eno Sarris: Studs.

1:54
Blooptron: Follow your dreams, kids, and one day, you too will know the deep, satisfying feeling of making a cheeseburger more complicated than it needs to be.

1:55
Moltar: Adonis is on the DL and is also only good when he plays the Mets

1:55
Eno Sarris: and yet he has that name

1:55
JD15: Salazar ever gonna fix his HR-itis? Feels like he is the most 3 true outcome pitcher there is

1:55
Eno Sarris: too many dick shots.

1:55
Eno Sarris: Still like him, but man.

1:55
led: I’m trying to understand how a change fits with Kershaw’s FB/SL/CV combo… could it be just another tool against RHBs? He looked really good yesterday and the swing he got on Posey says the change might actually be useful….

1:55
Eno Sarris: I think just a third time through the order tool.

1:56
Tim Tebow’s Thunder Thighs: RE: Cheeseburger Casserole – not so much better as different and/or easier, like making six cheeseburgers all at once and in one dish. It also reheated better than an actual burger.

1:56
led: do you like anything from left hand brewery? I find their lineup to be the best CO has to offer

1:56
Eno Sarris: That Nitro Milk Stout.

1:56
Chris: Phish plays the same weekend (Pitchfork). Should come to one of the shows. Bummed I’ll miss LCD, always something good going on when Phish plays Northerly Island.

1:57
Eno Sarris: Gotta stay at the fest, it’s work. I’ll catch Phish at the Greek out here maybe (if they come, I don’t check these things any more).

1:57
E: Do you have any guilty pleasure beers? I am a sucker for a Coronona with lime on a hot day.

1:57
Eno Sarris: Dos Equis for sure. Will Red Stripe when I want to remember.

1:58
Topher: Thinking of buying low on Miggy. Any concerns there, or do I try to sell someone like Rizzo as an “upgrade” and get a second player?

1:58
Eno Sarris: Buy low on Rizzo by keeping him and looking elsewhere.

1:59
Joe: So u think Zych or Pazos and not Cishek? They gave the latter a save chance but he blew it.

1:59
Eno Sarris: Cishek doesn’t have the things you usually look for (velo, K rate).

1:59
Bork: See Gammons tweet in regards to the Braves vet telling a friend there’s going to be a fight today? And Donaldson retweeted it…

1:59
Eno Sarris: the world’s biggest sigh

2:00
Anonymous: Thanks as always for these chats! Pillar’s breakout has been a
pleasant surprise. What are your thoughts on Pillar’s bat and how does he project moving forward?

2:00
Eno Sarris: HIs launch angle and exit velo say that there’s something to the power. Like.

2:00
Marcus Banks: Sanchez is heating up. Is he the 2nd best catcher in baseball?

2:00
Eno Sarris: Yes. Could end up with best offensive numbers at the position in baseball this year.

2:00
Dungeon Master: DUNGEON. MASTER.

2:00
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: What is the appropriate amount of DL spots in this current theater? Three per team?

2:00
Eno Sarris: At least.

2:01
Salami Tom: Baseball managers wearing uniforms is kind of weird

2:01
mike sixel: suits for coaches/managers is just as stupid. As are suits on ESPN, or anywhere for that matter. Just stupid.

2:01
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: Generic beer comment followed by a fantasy baseball question.

2:01
Eno Sarris: last lude!

2:01
Eno Sarris: I MADE IT TO PAGE FOUR OF THE QUESTIONS

2:02
Johnny5Alive: how early is too early to cut bait in a dynasty league? I am floating on my offense now, but i lost thor and familia, cueto been sucking, gsellman vomit, eickhoff vomit. I am in 3rd but can’t see it lasting. How early have you made the decision?

2:02
Eno Sarris: too early if you’re in third!!! I have cut on worse teams by now.

2:02
Knucklebear: Hey Eno, I had a green flash west coast IPA last night, good stuff!

2:02
Eno Sarris: One of my first favorites.

2:03
Tony: Thoughts on Lance Lynn? Outperforming FIP and xFIP

2:03
Eno Sarris: Still like him.

2:03
HappyFunBall: Clamado-infused Imperial Stout = “Boston Steamer”

2:03
Re:Clamato Imperial Stout: Barf Vader

2:03
Rags: For that clam beer: Sunken Mary Rose. Mary Rose was a British warship from 1545.

2:03
Tony: xStats has Aaron Hicks at 276/425/506… guessing the BB% comes down a a bit, and power as well (low FB%)… 275/375/450?

2:03
Eno Sarris: Still a yay.

2:04
Brad: Dam, Eno was a playah back in the day

2:04
Eno Sarris: Oh yeah the girls field hockey manager was the BMOC WATCH OUT

2:04
808: Braaaap braaap good morning my bredren! I come from the mid pacific and wake just to ask you this…how much do I bid on GODLEY in ottoneu (points)

2:04
Eno Sarris: 3/4

2:04
Henry: What happened to Jose Ramirez’s stolen bases?

2:05
Eno Sarris: SBs age terribly and he wasn’t a plus stealer.

2:05
Brian: The longer your chats go on, the more I find myself asking less baseball related questions and more lude worthy comments

2:05
Chewbacca: Pet my face

2:05
Eno Sarris: Those were in a row so yeah

2:05
xFIP Master Race: If HR/FB is so noisy, what is the use in xFIP?

2:05
Eno Sarris: xFIP basically assumes league average HR/FB so it’s about that noise.

2:05
Snarfle: How do you swing 2 for 1s? Everyone (including me) wants to be on the side getting the better player and the roster spot.

2:06
Eno Sarris: Make it a two for two and get a dropper. Seriously, it’s better that way.

2:06
PD: At Stanford, a member of the field hockey team told me that the vast majority of them were… batting from the other side. And yet you did better?

2:06
Eno Sarris: Well I was in high school so they weren’t getting scholarships or anything.

2:06
Snarfle: Snagged the Zimmer and now I have too many OFs. Keep or see if someone wants to buy the hype?

2:06
Eno Sarris: Sell in a redraft.

2:06
Samuel: mislabeled. should clearly be NEW DANGERMOUSE!

2:07
Snarfle: What’s your favorite angle to whack the ball in pinball?

2:07
Eno Sarris: The leave it on the handle as long as possible one.

2:07
HappyFunBall: I ran the numbers. Of all qualified starters in 2017, Salazar actually IS the most TTO guy there is. Ray #2. Sale #3.

2:07
Sid: How much should we read into stats like xwoba and xba?

2:07
Eno Sarris: They’re based on the best small sample stats we have right now.

2:08
Eno Sarris: Okay okay I have to go. Thanks for hanging out everyone!!
