Eno Sarris: I can add to this Ventura for Ian Desmond asked elsewhere.

Eno Sarris: I like Ventura, but in keeper leagues, you have to think about his size a bit. Tim Lincecum, Scott Kazmir and the like. Even Pedro broke down a bit early. But! These guys were great when they were young. And are you really thinking about owning Ventura in five years?

Eno Sarris: So I say keep Ventura over Moss (platoon issues), Arenado (power?) and Desmond. Am I crazy?

Hey Eno! Last Saturday, Paul Goldschmidt went 4/5 with 2 steaks and 6 rbis with 5 runs scored against the Dodgers. The starting pitcher for that game was Clayton Kershaw and Goldy had a career 4/23 line against Kershaw with 9 k’s. I only have one 1B spot on my roster and was thinking of sitting him but didn’t because he has been a top 10-fantasy producer this season. Needless to say that was a very smart decision. My question is how much value do you put towards career BVP (batter vs. pitcher) numbers in deciding your lineup? Thanks for answering!

Between A+ and AA, in 2014 Peter O’Brien (NYY) has a 198 wRC+, .722 SLG, and 17 HR, 41 G. Hauling a 2.4 BB%, 23.6 K%. In 2013, he had a 7.5% BB%, 28% K rate through A, A+, 138 wRC+. Does he make it to the show in 2015? Do you like his odds on learning plate discipline, getting to be a 3-true-outcome type?

Eno Sarris: He’s still in the ‘bad’ buckets for both BB and K in both of those examples.

Strasburg struck out 53 in his first 6 starts, 34 innings. 21 in 27.1 innings in 4 starts since then. So 74 strikeouts and 10.9 SO/9. Where do those last two numbers end up (I won’t check your math to read into your innings prediction…okay, I totally will, but I don’t mean to)

Eno Sarris: Totally possible. Both good defenders with patience. I do think XB can 20/10 at some point, maybe even .280 with that.

I’ve been crushing it on the waiver wire re. closers (Rondon, Mejia, Doolittle, Belisario) and I’ve also got Aroldis. Would you deal Aroldis for some SP help (had Big Fern:( ) or just hold onto Aroldis until some of those get deposed? If not, what kind of SP would you be targeting?

Eno Sarris: Doolittle gets you a solid second closer, but the rest… if Mejia makes it looks solid there, and Doolittle holds, I think those two could be fine 1/2 closers on top of WW guys. But not yet.

Eno Sarris: Could be aggressive with decent hit tool. Has power. No plate discipline means there good be bad times for him. Don’t think he’s a mixed leaguer yet.

Eno Sarris: I’d probably run both out, but this is about the only case where I’d wait on Cobb.

Eno Sarris: Wrist is the big one for power.

Eno Sarris: At least I held him in all my twelve teamers? Ten teamers are tough man. I don’t play in any and all I remember was that the waiver wire was full of guys I wanted.

Eno Sarris: I was skeptical, but that start was another good one. Three good pitches even if no change. Did change his mix, turfed one of his fastballs. Not a 12-teamer but a deep leaguer for sure.

Eno Sarris: He’s made a very important second adjustment after the K% went through the roof, and now he’s got patience, contact and power… It’s amazing. I still worry about vs LHP and the K% to some extent, but I was wrong about him.

Eno Sarris: Did a quick query for this. Second base goes to Rendon over my boyfriend Betts. SS is Bogaerts over Simmons based on bat upside. First base looks like Rizzo. Stanton Puig Trout in OF. Third base… could only be Arenado. Few young catchers here, they take a while. I only see Sal Perez. DH is fun: Yelich, Myers, Billy Ham, Heyward? I’ll sneak Billy in just in case.

Eno Sarris: I love Erv with the change-up. I like Miller more than most, but I think you’ll do better trading for a hitter or a closer or something — people don’t like when you offer them same position, struggling guy for their good guy.

Eno Sarris: I think something may happen here. Zimmerman found the next Zobrists and Campbell was on there: bad age, good plate discipline, some power, some D. I think EC will be better than Duda in OF and could be deep league relevant. Picked him up in my 18- and 20-team leagues with huge benches today.

Eno Sarris: Doesn’t have same power upside, but his K and BB put him in about a 25% bust rate bucket, which is awesome. More likely than most to hit the ground running. With power and speed, on the 20/20 level.

Eno Sarris: Whoa hold on I love him but he’s not like totally in command. Jim Johnson still matters a bit, and Ryan Cook is right-handed and good. I had him at 19 or so this past week, would probably move him up to top 15 after good week, if all goes right, because of missed time, possibly a top 7-10 closer at end of season. But there’s risk.

Why hasnt radar guns to detect bat speed become a usefull tool for scouts (or has it). It seems that being able to quantify a players bat speed is as useful as a pitchers pitch speed.

Do you think it would be smart, or overly complicated, to add 2 more categories to BIP; specifically, hard grounders, and weak fly balls? I know classification gets a little tricky but it seems that a further breakdown would help understand bad luck/bad hitting. Since the walls were moved in, the field is almost exactly the same dimensions as Shea, in terms of the lines, the gaps and center field (albeit with some quirky lines to get there). The real reason there is no power on this squad is poor player evaluation, not the field. No other teams have problems hitting home runs here.

Eno Sarris: Yeah in my piece on Sports on Earth. less than half as many TJs as us. They rest more, do different weight lifting, more massage and pre and post pitching warm up / cool down, but otherwise, they let their kids throw a lot and throw a lot of junk. Average FB in NPB is probabl 87 to our 91, though.

Eno Sarris: I would never look at WHIP for a ranking. Too many things go into that. Yes, DR’s K-BB is good so far, in 12 innings. He’s a great pitcher. He’s never struck out as many as Kenley, and I doubt Kenley has WHIP problems going forward. As I said, DRob would’ve moved up, and I think he or Chapman would have likely replaced Uehara, who’s throwing 87 and is tired.

I picked up Dellin Betances. Through last week he has averaged this season per week (2.94 IP, 2.18 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, 6Ks). Is this a good strategy for a RP picture to log some IP to help out standard pitching scoring and pick up some Ks?

Eno Sarris: Try Saisons, session IPAs, Dirty Pilsners, Browns. C-Mart a reliever for me now. Skaggs okay and great reclamation project but ceiling not super high. Stroman might be good for a few years a-la Kazmir. Need to know more about Stephenson.
