Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 6/1/17

1:33
Eno Sarris: man look at that Angels lineup, someday they’ll be looking back at that and think about Trout and this song will be playing

12:00
Whit: You believe in May Jimmy Nelson?

12:01
Eno Sarris: You know what… I might. Ever since he shelved the Curve for two games, it’s come back slower and more different than his slider, so he’s worked on the differential between the two breaking balls it looks like. And that differential was the worst in the league between heavy two breaker users in the past.

12:02
Dan: I’M FREAKING OUT WE ARE 2 GAMES BELOW .500 AND ON A 6 GAME LLLLLL FLAG STREAK HELP

12:03
Eno Sarris: I like how I don’t even know who ‘we’ is here.

12:03
Dave: Eno! My man! #TANAK. WTF?

12:04
Eno Sarris: I don’t see a change in pitching mix, velocity, or movement. I don’t get it.

12:04
A Mob of Screaming Girls: OhmyGod, it’s Eno Sarris *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*

12:05
Eno Sarris: Change the sex and the age and the content and well not even then.

12:05
Reginald Denton III: Hey Eno! You buying into what Justin Bour’s doing?

12:05
Eno Sarris: Yes! I mean I think he can .265/30 and now he’s playing against lefties more so the counting stats should be fine.

12:05
CamdenWarehouse: Gary Sheffield says that shifting is not baseball but computer geek ball.

12:06
Eno Sarris: I think people forget that, though it’s a sport played by kids for fun, at this level it’s a business. Isn’t he an agent? Teams are going to do what they can to win.

12:07
Al B. Tross: Has there ever been a bigger sell-high candidate than Ervin Santana is right now? Dude in my league just traded him and Avisail for Kinsler and Brantley. Big steal.

12:08
Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t regress him to the levels that the projections are using. Ever since he started trusting his changeup more, he’s been able to pitch to a mid-to-high threes ERA.. which yeah still makes him a sell high.

12:08
Baseball Guy: Can we take a moment to appreciate that it is June 1st and Ryan Schimpf has more homers than regular hits? He’s made it up to a 100 wRC+ despite an Avg that would make Alcides Escobar shake his head.

12:09
Eno Sarris: Weird dude. Averages the highest launch angle in the sport but can also touch the high fastball. Love him… still scratch your head.

12:09
CamdenWarehouse: In related news, I’m not sure The Players’ Tribune should exist

12:10
Eno Sarris: It should exist, if only to show us that having a filter, a writer that will judge the words and put them in context with other words and actions, is valuable, and that we don’t all want to read stuff written by PR people in concert with their clients.

12:10
Eno Sarris: To be clear, I’m not saying they’re all written by PR, players are smart. But it’s only exactly their side of the story.

12:11
William Murray: Is there anything to worry about with Benintendi’s slump? Are pitchers starting to pitch him differently?

12:12
Eno Sarris: More fastballs. Maybe didn’t have as much power right now as we thought he did. Still going to hit close to .300 going forward with good speed!

12:13
StL Steve: In 5×5 h2h, Mazara is a top _____ dynasty bat?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Love him. He’s going to hit close to .300 with 30+ homer power soon. Right now? Can’t push a .280/25 type too far north. top 75? top 50?

12:14
Erik: Carlos Gonzalez has too much of a track record to just drop, but should he be riding my bench, or starting over someone like Adam Jones or Eric Hosmer?

12:14
Eno Sarris: I’d start him over Hosmer.

12:15
Erik: What boring, established veterans would you be treating Dinelson Lamet as equivalent to?

12:17
Eno Sarris: If you’re talking comp.. I wonder if we’re not looking at a young Greinke without the command. Good rising 4s, sometimes 2s, great slider, really good power change. Command is huge, so he won’t *be* Greinke, but it looks similar in terms of movements and velocities. Without the command, I think I might consider him like a Matt Shoemaker in terms of value. I’m buying though.

12:18
2-D: Has the script flipped in redraft leagues that pitching is now more coveted than hitting?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Man it’s weird. Pitching, especially with pitchers hitting the DL more than hitters and everyone hitting the DL 50% more often this year, is definitely scarce. But given that DL thing, I’m not sure you should spend a lot more on them before the season. But in season, they’re what everyone wants. Fantasy baseball is in a weird spot, and I can’t believe the people saying this is about the same as usual.

12:19
Twoseamers: Who’d you rather have in fantasy ROS – Buxton or Haniger. Eduardo Nunez or Pham?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Haniger Nunez

12:19
Mr. Met: Hey, Eno…….F you!

12:19
Dumpster Fiers: I’m replacing Trout with Buxton…pray for me.

12:20
Ceetar: Picking up a 4-pack of this today. They make great stuff.

12:20
Eno Sarris: good good we can do better

12:20
Sim: Paxton looked pretty good last night…should we be excited?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Of course.

12:20
Kahnle Jansen: Any reason to believe that the White Sox could net a top 100 prospect for Tommy Kahnle? Dude is Kenley Jansening right now, striking out 51% of his batters. Small sample size I know, but what playoff hunt team wouldnt pay that premium for the potential reward?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Problem is track record. The guys that get good prospects back have done it for a while. I think they keep him and try to ship out Robertson, maybe together with Jones.

12:22
JRK: Thoughts on Renfroe going forward?

12:23
Eno Sarris: I’d buy. He’s going to hit 30 homers this year, has shown more patience as pitchers have begun to be scared of him, and can make a little more contact still. could settle in as a .250+/.325/.450+ guy.

12:24
Big Tuna: I recently made some trades and have been lucky with injuries recently, but I’m antsy to keep tinkering with my roster. How do I control myself? When does it become too many moves?

12:24
Eno Sarris: When you haven’t even given one iteration of your team long enough to know what you even need. The graph view of your standings is your friend.

12:25
Murse Wigwam: Mr. Met should have taken his head off, impotently flung it like 50 Cent’s first pitch, and gotten jacked in the face by a man standing still. Then he’d be an All-Star.

12:25
Eno Sarris: Like this kind of All Star right

12:26
Eno Sarris: I actually stopped to watch that intro for a second

12:26
Gub Gub: Bryce Harper is a human popped collar.

12:26
Eno Sarris: You know he’s got salmon colored polo shirts for sure.

12:26
Troutmageddon: Thoughts on Nick Castellanos? I just dealt Kopech for him and was hoping Kopech turns into the next Bobby Jenks and Castellanos line drive profile leads to big results. Maybe I done messed up?

12:27
Eno Sarris: I do deals like that all the time. I like the bird in the hand, mostly.

12:27
Jeff: Why has everyone in the media soured on Quintana? aside from ERA, Him and Jon Lester are posting identical stat lines, yet one is considered elite ace , and quintana is considered damaged potential trade target. Lester 65 IP 64 H 23BB 67k in NL, Q has 64IP 66 H 24BB 64 ks in the AL, 5 yrs younger and 45 mil cheaper over the next 3.

12:28
Eno Sarris: Just looking too hard at ERA. That said, I don’t know why Q has lost the command of the curve. That’s been his calling card, and right now it’s not there.

12:28
Kiermaier’s Piercing Green Eyes: What’s a good go-to deli sub to order when you don’t know the place? I’ve always used Italians but I’m finding the salt hard on my stomach these days.

12:28
Eno Sarris: BLTs but will that help? There’s a lot of salt on all of them.

12:29
Boss Hog: Largest league size where it would be acceptable to drop Salazar?

12:29
Eno Sarris: I haven’t yet in my ten teamer but I think I will.

12:29
The Average Sports Fan: Nola and Velazquez have both been bad this year. Any hope for either?

12:30
Eno Sarris: I like Nola. Velo up, use of change is up. command is better than this.

12:30
Sim: Perdomo ran into a couple of good offenses recently and got smacked around. But he has a 8.72 K/9, 2.70 BB/9 and a 65.9% groundball rate. Good things to come?

12:31
Eno Sarris: Lefties still love him (.310/.381/.471!!) so he’ll always be a little worse than his overall numbers until he believes in that changeup.

12:31
Beano Harris: How would you rank these closers ROS: Osuna, Knebel, Herrera, Edwin Diaz?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Will Herrera close in his new spot? On talent, he’s first, then Osuna and Knebel and Diaz.

12:33
Eno Sarris: though they’re all pretty close and I love them all more or less. Glad Diaz lived up to my faith in him and got the job back.

12:33
JJ: Thoughts on Daniel Norris? 10 Team AL only. Need an injury replacement. Erasmo also available.

12:33
Eno Sarris: I really think he’s one tweak away from being great, not even good.

12:34
fresh basil: Dan Straily has quietly been a monster recently

12:35
Eno Sarris: Dude called me a geek, I called him a nerd, and that sums up why he’s any good. He can now throw his slider and change to both sides of the plate against both hands, which is impressive.

12:35
Aron: Let’s say you’re a GM of a team that was supposed to be rebuilding. You’re approaching the trade deadline and your team has somehow overperformed their win expectancy by a large number, 10 games in this hypothetical, and you have a WC in your sights. Should you buy and know it’s likely a waste? Sell and stick to your plan? Or, as I’m now realizing, just probably hold. If I still have your attention, what if it’s the opposite and you’re a team that’s greatly underperformed (or been injury-plagued)?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Hold in the first, maybe prioritize some guys that are ready over guys that need help, like send Buxton down again or w/e. In the second, you just sell the guys that aren’t nailed down next year.

12:37
Brady: Dipoto at the helm of a seller is going to be fun as hell, isn’t it?

12:37
Eno Sarris: ALL OF THE TRADEZ

12:37
b b b Bird Bird Bird: Will “The Word” hit over or under 15 HR’s for the Yankees this season?

12:37
Eno Sarris: I’ll take the over.

12:38
John Jaso: Favorite restaurant and beer in Cleveland?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Never been but Great Lakes and Market Garden are the class of the city?

12:39
Shawn: Has October given any thought to having weekly/bi-weekly/semi-frequent regional updates of happenings at breweries. Seems like new ones popping up weekly in New England. Be interested in something that helps me keep informed of them.

12:40
Eno Sarris: We have releases on the home page and a weekly piece that has release information. Many of those are at breweries, so it’s as easy as me adding in more information about the party (tickets, line up, that sort of thing).

12:41
Murse Wigwam: Chad Pinder or Paul Dejong?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Pinder is hitting 60% in the air I want him.

12:41
baby bull : Eric Young Jr has a 1.318 OPS, why do they need Trout?

12:41
Eno Sarris: my lord that lineup

12:41
Larry: In one leap, Samardjida punched Strickland, concussed Moore and prevented Harper from more damage. And provded more laughs per .gif for me in a long time

12:41
Eno Sarris: It was majestic.

12:41
Jumbotron: Imagine a player with the combined on-field value of Trout and Kershaw. Let’s call this person Kakie Bryan. How bad of a locker room guy would Kakie need to be for a GM to NOT want this person on their team?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Bonds plus Lawrie plus Kent plus

12:42
Ace: Hi Eno — you said that “If [Aaron Nola’s] healthy, expect numbers commensurate with a fantasy number two. Any increase in velocity could push him to ace status.” His velocity is up 2 ticks according to pfx! But he has a 5.06 ERA (with better peripherals). Is ace level performance coming? You promised!

12:43
Eno Sarris: Take one tick away because the way velo is measured is different now. Injuries are a thing for him, obviously, or his walk rate would be lower. I still love him.

12:43
Eick: Eno, Fulmer’s ERA does not come close to matching his peripherals going back to last year. Should I be looking to sell high in redraft? In my keeper he costs $5 to keep so I’m holding for now. Make sense?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Changeup peripherals match up the most weakly with overall peripherals among any pitch type — they don’t always make for good strikeout rates. But they usually make for weak contact. I’m holding, and I”m happy.

12:44
Ice cubicle: The Yahoo dudes keep wrecking McCullers’ trade value. Are you worried about him breaking down or Houston slowing down usage?

12:45
Eno Sarris: Not worried about the second. They’re in it to win it, other than a ten-day stint here or there, they’ll let him throw I think. The first? Will always be something to worry about with him.

12:45
Raindog: Alex Gordon is hurt, right? I can’t imagine any other explanation for having the worst ISO in baseball.

12:46
Eno Sarris: Look at this big drop in exit velo, that probably points to an injury. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/player?player_id=460086&pos=7&player_ty…

12:46
Johnson: Rank em in long term formats please: Sano, Judge, Conforto, Bellinger.

12:46
Eno Sarris: Like choosing between my children. I love love Conforto’s all fields with power approach, so him first, Judge second, and then Bellinger by a contact rate smidgen over Sano.

12:47
STiVo: Cool article about Rendon. He’s the man. (Though he seems aloof from my I-don’t-know-him perspective.) I’ve always thought he had a great looking righthanded swing.

12:47
Eno Sarris: He was actually pretty down to earth. I think Trea is struggling and didn’t want to talk (used the iPad to avoid me) but Rendon put his feet up and joked. Could also be about their current stats.

12:47
Bruce: Aside from 2-3 guys including Gleybar, most Yankees are post-peak. Shouldnt they be big time buyers at the deadline?

12:48
Eno Sarris: This does not fit with my interpretation of the team, considering guys that are not on the team currently, and the youth in their rotation other than TANAK. However, they’ve become competitive so quickly that yeah I do think they should be buyers. If they can get a rental starter without giving up Frazier, I’d do it.

12:49
Bleh: Running low on saves, got Betances (obviously wont get them forever), Neris, Norris, and J Wilson and Britton on the DL. Should I try to swing a trade for Osuna or Oh or….?

12:49
Eno Sarris: No, just hope your DL clears up.

12:49
fake newss: What is up with Matt Carpenter? Popping up like crazy. xStats says his xAVG is .234. Ouch.

12:50
Eno Sarris: Yeah he maybe needs to find some his old school, more level swing.

12:50
LeylandLand: Are you done with Maikel Franco or still holding?

12:50
Eno Sarris: Buying in keeper for sure.

12:51
JJP: How would you assess Junior Guerra’s performance last night?

12:51
Eno Sarris: Glad to see so many split fingers. Still think he can be better than his projections and be a 3.75, 8 k9 guy.

12:51
Haydo: Got an offer out their for Manaea. Expect more like the last two starts or sporadic production and injuries?

12:52
Eno Sarris: I was very impressed. Instead of complaining about how soft his slider is, he’s embraced it and is backfooting people like nuts, and then breaking out the FOSH change. I’d hold/buy.

12:52
Sim: I look forward to every Thursday at Noon. Thursday is Eno day!

12:52
Eno Sarris: Man I just made it to noon on the questions…

12:52
Jane: You like Devers? You liked Bellinger a lot so I picked him up. Thinking of keeper league.

12:53
Eno Sarris: Love love Devers. I think he’s actually in consideration for best close prospect in minors, even with Moncada’s nutso tools.

12:53
Dave: Are Morton, Cahill and/or T.Ross worth stashing in a 12-team league? Who’s your favorite?

12:53
Eno Sarris: Cahill then Morton.

12:54
Jordan: The Mariners have had the good fortune of being able to give a ton of pitchers looks at the MLB level that they didn’t expect to see. Have you seen anything intriguing from any of them?

12:54
Eno Sarris: eh. Ariel Miranda is better than I thought, but no front end guy still. And that’s the nicest I can be!

12:54
Jon: What should the Pirates do?

12:55
Eno Sarris: Hope Cutch goes nuts and becomes tradable?

12:55
Thwerve: Randall Delgado. Nobody’s talking about him yet, but he’s been starting, and the results, and quick check of K-BB%, SwStr, and Velo all look good. I look at the movements and the change is not great but it’s at least different than his 4-seam. Also seems to possibly have a 2nd changeup with 4-seam movement which is weird, pitch f/x thinks its a slider. He’s started before a long time ago. I guess the whiffs have always been there but the command has never. What’s your take?

12:57
Eno Sarris: He’s always showed up as a guy with multiple good pitches, Rise on 4s makes the change better than it seems, good slider, yeah minus command. I think he could be a sneaky good deep league pickup. Even his projections are pretty good.

12:57
Pome-rain-on-your-parade: I will curve ball your batters into oblivion.

12:57
Jeb Bush: I demand a Justin Bour article

12:57
Tony: Samardzija in May: 40 IP, 49 K, 1 BB. That’s… impressive. Damn .355 BABIP.

12:57
Eno Sarris: A baseball themed interlude. Rare!

12:58
Sherman: Dan Straily, JC Ramirez, can they keep up what they are doing?

12:58
Eno Sarris: Some regression, totally different guys, but ownable in all leagues by now.

12:59
Mookie: I have 3 kids and live in a Southern city with low cost-of-living. If we were pals, would you talk me out of trying to move to the Bay Area?

1:00
Eno Sarris: I have two kids and before this lived in SF, NYC, London… so I guess I shouldn’t complain about cost of living. I’ve *loved* the places I’ve lived recently, though, and the ability to see amazing natural, historical, and educational sights, and I’ve loved them more than the places across the south I used to live. No disrespect meant to Atlanta, Mountain City, Vero Beach, or Ft. Lauderdale.

1:00
Jeff: do you realize you now have the best life? Before it was late 90’s Howie Long, with teri hatcher as his wife, the Long brothers as his sons, Fox NFL sunday job, and a raider legend. Now you get to trade, taste, and write about beer, and eat sleep and crap baseball, with a great family and live in the best town! love your work man…you are an inspiration to every man

1:01
Eno Sarris: Related to last question, but Howie was paid better lol. Life is good though, and thanks for hanging out here.

1:02
MB: What the hell is going on with Matt Bush? Has heat and hot slider but stopped K’ing fools

1:02
Eno Sarris: I’m not worried about Matt Bush from a baseball perspective.

1:02
E: There is a food truck outside of our office that sells a wrap that weighs 1lb and is crispy buffalo chicken, mac n cheese, and fritos

1:02
Eno Sarris: Shoo it away, tell him please, I want to drink beer tonight, please send the hummus truck over.

1:03
Troutmageddon: how does a pitcher like Cobb lose the feel for a pitch? Is it just because of TJ? Just needs more reps at it? Does it come back and then if he combines it with his new nasty curve will he be legit again?

1:03
Eno Sarris: I don’t think the release on it is the same. Maybe he doesn’t trust to let his arm go like he used to? Or maybe the ligament itself is not allowing the same movement? It’s weird, but that pitch is still not back. I’m going to go back to trying to sell him again, shhh don’t tell anyone this time.

1:03
JJP: My wife doesn’t like beer. Any beer types that don’t taste like beer? Unfortunately, she doesn’t like sour things either.

1:04
Eno Sarris: Sorta screwed. Have you tried a saison? It’s a little different.

1:04
STiVo: Is there a StatCast metric for spin off the bat? Shouldn’t there be?? I think it’d be useful

1:04
Eno Sarris: There is and we don’t get it. The players have shown me that they get some batted ball spin information.

1:05
Larry David: Sporer has Tijuan Walker ranked 37th in his SP update. I have a chance to acquire him at the cost of Bush and Ramos – both of which are expendable in my 14tm points lg dynasty. First – do you agree with his ranking? And second – is this possibly too much for Walker, even if both players *are* expendable?

1:06
Eno Sarris: It’s a bit high for me. HIs secondaries are all pretty meh right now, he’s living off the fastball, and as it warms i think he’ll give up more homers.

1:07
Frank: Is Soler a sunk cost for ’17?…

1:08
Eno Sarris: He is okay at recognizing pitch location, but I think breaking balls are still killing him. Look how he’s seeing more breakers with every year. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/h_outcome.php?player=624585&gFilt=&&time…

1:08
Sour Beer: Ben Lively – interested in seeing what he can do?

1:08
Eno Sarris: Invisiball!

1:09
Sour Beer: So, Skoglund looked pretty good. He throws 89-91 from the left. What else does he need to have to be a solid deep league option?

1:09
Eno Sarris: I’m not in love. no pitch really stands out and he’s a lefty 4s/cutter/curve guy without even the velo of a Montgomery.

1:10
A mob of screaming bearded dudes: Ohmygod, it’s Eno Sarris *BEEEEEEEEEEELCH*

1:10
Eno Sarris: Closer.

1:10
E: For some reason I felt surprisingly overwhelmed at the bottle shop yesterday. I didn’t go in looking for anything specific and was almost paralyzed with indecision.

1:10
Eno Sarris: More and more and more and more

1:10
Huaneetoh: Would you rather have Jimmy Nelson or Derek Holland?

1:10
Eno Sarris: JIMMY couldn’t say that fast enough.

1:11
Avi Truther: What do you make of Avisail? Legit breakout?

1:12
Eno Sarris: Man his launch angle is not that different from his career, and his swinging strike rate, we’d have to basing this whole thing on his new body?

1:12
HappyFunBall: Trevor Story seemingly came out of nowhere last year … has he gone back there? Is he rosterable in 10xMixed?

1:13
Eno Sarris: He’s gone too far with the launch angle thing. He’s toned it down a bit since he came back, which is good.

1:14
Rodòn King Jesus: any trades you regret making?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Biggest regret so far this year is NOT trading Cobb for Ed Rod in a dynasty league because I tried to weasel a little more out of the deal.

1:14
Don: Domingo Santana is the most underrappreciated Brewers player… the numbers suggest he’s an all-around good player especially with his triple slash line. When will the baseball community and Brewers realize this?!

1:14
Eno Sarris: I’m feeling p good about my shares.

1:14
Moltar: Helloooooooooooo Alex Bregman. Is my extreme patience with him finally paying off?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Yes!

1:15
Baryolo Colonge: Competing for it this year and have Conforto with about 4-5 years of keeper value. Being offered Ian Desmond and Edwin Diaz with my closers being Watson, Giles, Kintzler in a sv/hld league. Thoughts or should i look for more?

1:15
Eno Sarris: Try to not trade him.

1:15
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: I spend a non-inconsequential amount of my life attempting to retain numbers of athletic feats done by strangers in far away lands, I retain them as a form of entertainment, a way of showing a superior trait amongst 9 other fellow men of guessing the future. After all, isn’t that the game we’re all playing? How to guess the future in order to have a better chance at survival?

1:15
Hannah Hochevar: They say the past is a foreign country, but what about Canada?

1:16
CamdenWarehouse: Breaking news: Hawk to retire at the end of the season

1:16
CamdenWarehouse: and the crowd goes wild

1:16
Bork: Whether or not Player’s Tribune articles are written all by PR, it 100% serves as PR for players.

1:16
Words of Advice from my Grandpa: “When you get older, never trust a fart, and never waste a hard-on.”

1:16
Chris Cate: Eloy Jimenez is back from his injury and seems to be killing it. How good can he be in your opinion?

1:16
Eno Sarris: Better Soler.

1:16
Bryan: is jeff samardzija’s uptick in k/9 for real and are you buying?

1:16
Eno Sarris: Yes, throwing slider instead of cutter, buying.

1:17
E: I don’t think players or former players calling it “geek ball” is any different than anyone in a different industry. Sometimes I question the things my marketing team does but I don’t have a degree in marketing so what do I know?

1:17
Nickels : Do you believe in whit merrifield? Souza?

1:18
Eno Sarris: eh. yes!

1:18
Bork: Its uber early but who cares. Who gets Otani?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Dodgers?

1:18
Bill Hawkins: Is Greg Bird worth a DL stash at this point?

1:18
Eno Sarris: yes.

1:18
enosarus: Who ya got outta Yonder, Smoak and Bour?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Bour Yonder.

1:18
Jim Lahey: Thoughts on Jean segura? You buying the last year+ of improvements?

1:20
Eno Sarris: He did change his hand slot and has hit more fly balls and seen more power since, so on that front I believe. BA will come down, surely.

1:20
Phil: Am I the only one who thinks Bundy’s velocity decline is mostly a classification issue? His 4-seam is clearly down a little, maybe even intentionally, but a lot of it seems to be a failure to take into account his increased use of a 2-seamer. The eye test tells me he has two distinct fastballs right now. His most recent start showed an increase back to the 4-seamer I think. He still needs more whiffs though… the change and cutter are too good to be this hittable.

1:20
Eno Sarris: Brooks has him up to 7% sinker? Also says his sinker is .4 mph slower than the 4s so I don’t think that’s it.

1:21
JJ: Rank these DL starters…Rodon, Smyly, Skaggs.

1:21
Eno Sarris: rodon Smyly

1:22
Sad Panda: ANy chance BIAGINI could Be-a-genie for my failing SP staff in 12-team mixed leagues?

1:22
Eno Sarris: yes, has lots of pitches and only a slight fastball weakness.

1:22
Eric: Going forward, Alex Wood is a #_______ SP in a redraft roto.

1:22
Eno Sarris: 25-30.

1:22
Gentry: Last calendar year Robbie Grossman is one of the top hitting outfielders, but how good of a hitter do you consider him to be?

1:23
Eno Sarris: Decent. A bit above average. Has good patience! average or better in patience, contact, power… just doesn’t really pop in one place other than patience.

1:24
Geoff: Whit Merrifield is hot. You think he’s really this good?

1:25
Eno Sarris: You have to really believe in his new power, and he is hitting more fly balls, but it’s a pretty small sample. Probably still just a .260/.300/.400 guy

1:25
Jake: With launch angle becoming so popular lately, and Joc Pedersons power, how is it possible he has such a high ground ball rate? What’s up?…or down.

1:25
Eno Sarris: The only thing he’s really told me about his approach is that he’s trying to hit fly balls. So it’s not for lack of trying! I think the injury has been hard on him.

1:25
Hannah Hochevar: Mookie Betts rhymes with Bernie Goetz.

1:26
Rotten Apple: I traded for Story so now have Diaz on bench & Inciarte is starting in utility bc of Trout. Should I drop 1 or both of those for Holliday, Souza, Pham or Piscotty? League counts xbhs.

1:26
Eno Sarris: If you’re not using Diaz, I’d drop him for Holliday so you can platoon with Inciarte.

1:27
Jake: Are you taking the over or under on Alex Bregman’s projections for the rest of the year? (ZiPS .266/.326/.444 12HR 6SB 108 wRC+)

1:27
Eno Sarris: over.

1:27
Lars: Hi Eno,. I too drank 40’s in Boston. Do you still love Domingo Santana?

1:27
Eno Sarris: Yes and yes.

1:28
Grant: Benched Jharel Cotton today in Ottoneu FGPts… Afraid of the bombs.

1:28
Eno Sarris: and here he is looking good

1:28
Chris: Looks like the brewers have lost all confidence in villar. Are you selling low at this point?

1:28
Eno Sarris: yes.

1:28
Eno Sarris: They have other options coming.

1:30
Dave: Is Cody Bellinger’s strikeout rate becoming a problem?

1:30
Eno Sarris: He did say they’re coming now. He just needs to get a handle on what they’re doing and react. He’s very good. Buy everywhere.

1:31
Guest: Lamet or Vargas ros 4×4?

1:31
Eno Sarris: Lamet.

1:31
CupofJoe: Time to sell high on Triggs?

1:31
Eno Sarris: Yeah I mean there just isn’t a great long list of fastball/slider/cutter 89 mph guys to fall back on as track records.

1:31
ryan: which side do you prefer…lynn and peacock or renfroe and manea?

1:31
Eno Sarris: Renfroe side.

1:32
Tony: Dallas Keuchel has gone right back to ’14/15 Keuchel… practically rolling the ball to home plate… are we going to see a re-re-adjustment where guys just stop swinging? 37.6% Zone%!!

1:32
Eno Sarris: I don’t know why people don’t just not swing, but he’s got great command and is just enticing them out there.

1:32
DN: Going to SF soon. What are some breweries/taprooms I should check out?

1:33
Eno Sarris: SF: Cellarmaker, around the corner is City Beer Store. Fieldwork and Rare Barrel are cab-able from each other in Oakland, and Temescal in Berkely is very good.

1:33
OnTilt1377: Degrom?!? Something wrong with him or just a blip? What to expect going forward?

1:34
Eno Sarris: I’m buying. Good velo on his pitches. great command. Many pitches, all good pitches. Throwing slider more than the sinker, but hasn’t abandoned any pitch really, even with curve and change usage down.

1:34
Pitching Woes: Would you take Lamet over Velasquez or Karns?

1:34
Eno Sarris: yes.

1:36
Grant: Carlos Correa is a monster. Discuss.

1:36
Eno Sarris: For fantasy I wish he stole more but he’s great. Great kid, works hard, all the tools.

1:36
Anthony: Jed Lowrie looks really good right now. You buying him? Think he brings back a top 100 prospect in a trade?

1:37
Eno Sarris: Finally sleeping through the night (had a deviated septum) and pulling for power again. Yeah I like him.

1:37
Alex: Pomeranz and Tyler Anderson have pitched better nover the last month, buying either of the two?

1:37
Eno Sarris: Sure on Pomeranz. Wish that cutter had taken hold..

1:39
Jackalope: What are your thoughts on Bauer and his CB usage? Do you think he starts using his elite pitch more often after his last successful outing (40% usage of CB)? Or do you think he keeps the same (20-25% usage of CB) approach?

1:40
Eno Sarris: he’s never had a game wth that many curveballs before! But he has been moving towards this slowly over time, the other biggest games are all this year and late last year. It’s possible that he should whittle down to fewer, better pitches, and it seems like he’s doing that.

1:40
DTH: I’m camping near Russian River this weekend. Best non-Pliny beers to put in my face hole?

1:40
Eno Sarris: Henhouse everything.

1:40
Jon: I have too many CI in my keeper league – Abreu, Alonso, Bell, Bregman… who to deal?

1:40
Eno Sarris: Alonso and Abreu.

1:41
Slap and Tickle: Sloppy Pickle

1:41
Heath: What do you expect from Tyson Ross ROS when he comes off the DL?

1:42
Eno Sarris: More homers than before. Not sure If I’m lining up for this one.

1:42
Friday Was Pizza Day: Trying to trade my way out of an offensive logjam: Got both Donaldson and Sano at 3rd, Correa and Turner at SS, Votto and Encarnacion at 1st… any obvious sells here?

1:42
Eno Sarris: Turner you can move around probably, so I’d look into selling low on Edwin.

1:43
Ninja Black Sock: Have you made any true friendships with a player?

1:44
Eno Sarris: I don’t know. I’d say so, a few guys are very friendly, but it’s a professional relationship. Someone called me a ‘sniffer’ once and I was like, my mang, you don’t understand the job. Very weird power structures at play. But I’m chill, they know who I am, and the people that can handle it have great convos with me, so i’d say… maybe.

1:44
Tom: Is Aaron Judge good? What kind of player will he be when he is not running a .400 BABIP?

1:45
Eno Sarris: Dude doesn’t hit the ball in the air like other sluggers. I think he could run plus BABIPs.

1:45
Miles Dalrymple: Drop Rajai Davis for Eric Young Jr?

1:45
Eno Sarris: Tear the whole thing down.

1:45
Gene Autry: Is Scioscia crazy enough to let Norris continue as the closer for the Angels even when Street and Bedrock get back? I would think Bedrosian is the future there so why not let him get back in the role asap?

1:45
Eno Sarris: If the season is lost, he might keep Cam cheaper.

1:45
Ben: Urgent beer question: I’m traveling from Louisville, KY to Carlisle, PA tomorrow. What breweries and beers should I seek? Didn’t see a map feature on beer graphs!

1:46
Eno Sarris: Shoot man, I’ll be a week or two late for you, and don’t know the region so well. hit me up on twitter and I’ll give you a sneak peek.

1:46
PTBNL: Eno touch my toe hole

1:46
Eno Sarris: man I giggled when he said that.

1:47
Hobbs: Thoughts on Trevor Story? Holding in dynasty leagues? I can trade him for Acuna and first pick in our MiLB draft. Should be Robert or Otani.

1:47
Eno Sarris: Oh man if you were at all out of contention, I’d do that. Acuna sexy and Otani is the sexiest prospect.

1:47
Harper’s Hair: Are you a fan of Alesmith’s .394?

1:48
Eno Sarris: yes, very much so. So easy to drink, like a single every time.

1:48
Bad so Sad : Does Kelvim Herrara and Ian Kennedy make the Tigers dramatically more legit for the playoffs?

1:48
Eno Sarris: They need a bullpen so bad.

1:48
Eno Sarris: *every year tweet.

1:48
2-D: What program do you use for GIF making?

1:49
Eno Sarris: Quicktime into iMovie into Streamable.

1:49
HappyFunBall: Michael Conforto is not on the All Star ballot. Discuss.

1:49
Eno Sarris: This is actually on the Mets, who seem determined to make him a fourth outfielder.

1:50
Mark: What can we expect from Reds pitchers if they get healthy? – Bailey, Disco, Finnegan?

1:50
Eno Sarris: Backend, middleend, 80% Gio Gonzalez?

1:50
Grant: Kluber shoving…

1:50
Eno Sarris: So many breaking balls.

1:50
Gumby: Is it finally time to dump VV in virtually all formats?

1:50
Eno Sarris: I’ve let him go in most, and am sad.

1:51
kung fu kenny: dynasty keep forever. get Trout for my Springer/R Zimmerman and Stroman.

1:51
Eno Sarris: Yes.

1:52
Jce: Are there any stats or hard data available that show which teams have the best fielding ball boys/girls?

1:52
Eno Sarris: They are on the field and trackman is actually tracking them. Bug Petriello for a piece.

1:52
JK: You okay trading a Beltre or Rendon for Melancon? 10-teamer and desperate for saves.

1:52
Eno Sarris: Beltre maybe not Rendon and also makes me shiver, I’d rather trade for another closer.

1:53
Grant: When something like Cotton looking funky happens, do you sit back and think about what to change about player evals going forward? Or do you just wait it out, thinking their skill will come back in line?

1:54
Eno Sarris: I try not to tie advancing my strategy for evaluation to one player, just always trying to get better. But there have been a few that I looked wrong on that just needed a little time.

1:54
Eno Sarris:

1:54
ljc: Glen Perkins worth a stash? Will he get SV when he comes back?

1:54
Eno Sarris: Heard he was 85-87 at first, so I want to see more velo before buying in anything other than that 18-teamer with 50 man rosters that Im in.

1:55
kung fu kenny: After how many starts is it fair to say “ok, this young pitcher is done with growing pains and just sucks”

1:55
Eno Sarris: I might not say that until 30-50 actually. The Indians do things awesomely IMO and gave McAllister 68 starts.

1:56
Edwin: Do you think Lackey can turn his downward spiral around?

1:56
Eno Sarris: No, finally lost the velo, still only has two pitches.

1:56
Zed: Think Schebler is the real deal?

1:56
Eno Sarris: hit ball hard, can Duvall.

1:56
Bunga: Would I be crazy to drop Odor for Devon Travis?

1:56
Eno Sarris: yes, but not crazy to drop a bench piece to get Travis on same team.

1:57
The Ghost of Drake Laroche: Will Polanco’s lanky, freak of a body ever hold up for a full season? he’s killing me in my keeper league

1:57
Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t put that glass jaw label on him yet.

1:57
ryan: could more fly balls lead to a shift in positional adjustment weights?

1:57
Eno Sarris: oooh fewer chances on the IF, great question.

1:58
Eno Sarris: plus more shifting… and strikeouts… and you get Asdrubal Cabrera at shortstop.

1:58
Pedro Is The Future: Any catchers you’d target at this point to backup Schwarber just in case he doesn’t figure things out?

1:58
Eno Sarris: Mesoraco?

1:58
hscer: If you need someone else to get through the queue in future chats, you could let me answer a bunch of questions so that people can do the opposite

1:58
Eno Sarris: I’m an hour behind and will never catch up.

1:59
Guest: how many q’s you get in a good chat 2-3k?

1:59
Eno Sarris: I’m down to answering like 5%.

1:59
E: I would consider Fat Head part of Cleveland and put them up there with Great Lakes and Market Garden

1:59
Eno Sarris: Yes they make great beer. Hop JuJu!

1:59
Dan: I just traded for Schwarber, was that a good idea

1:59
Eno Sarris: yes.

1:59
Rasta: Are you a De Leon guy? Think he’s worth a stash in a 12 tm mixer?

2:00
Eno Sarris: I guess he’s next. They have three pitchers ready to go, Faria looks great one start and then meh the next. Personal fave is Honeywell but dunno that i know he’s next.

2:00
Guest: As an Astros fan, as much as I love Bregman…I still can’t help but think it makes more sense to use him as the centerpiece of an ace trade, move Gurriel back to third and maybe complete a smaller deal for a guy like Yonder Alonso to play first. Then we wouldn’t really have to gut our farm system. Thoughts?

2:01
Eno Sarris: Rather use guys with bigger bust rates myself.

2:01
Jimbo: Athletics have to be selling Gray at the deadline, right?

2:01
Eno Sarris: Yeah his good start is huge for them.

2:01
LegallyEagle: Are the Miami Marlins in danger of relocating? Less than 2,000 attending a (day) game and ownership potentially changing…

2:01
Eno Sarris: oh good they got that free stadium and all nice

2:02
Grant: Devon Travis wrc+
Mar/Apr: 1
May: 171

2:02
Eno Sarris: Well he was hurt.

2:02
Yu and Porcello: Tomorrow: Yu v Hou || Porcello @ Bal — are you starting either? Both?

2:02
Eno Sarris: Yu.

2:02
fresh basil: How does Christopher Russo have an MLB show and you dont?

2:02
Eno Sarris: Obviously I need to yell more!

2:02
Eno Sarris: FRIGGING COTTON FOR FS SAKE

2:03
Eno Sarris: TERRIBLE DEFENSE, DROPPING DRIBBLERS

2:03
Ben: That previous urgent beer question may have been too broad. What beer/brewery should I drink in the Harrisburg/Hershey Pennsylvania area? There a few days.

2:03
Eno Sarris: Tired Hands, right?

2:04
John S: For those that don’t like beer, but feel the need to consume it:Mother Earth – Cali Creamin

2:04
Shawn: When is the humidor going into effect in AZ?

2:04
Eno Sarris: They silent suddenly.

2:04
Nickels : Alex Wood not returning as soon as hoped. Damn.

2:04
Eno Sarris: gotta push him down to 40s then.

2:04
Jon: Did I miss your updated pitcher ranks?

2:04
Eno Sarris: Still working on them.

2:04
Phantastic: How about Jameson Taillon. What a story that is. Please Eno, say a few words.

2:05
Eno Sarris: Seeing Taillon (groin) and Taillon (cancer) as injury updates was very weird. He’s a nice guy and I’m rooting for him. (Still think the change is bad)

2:05
baby bull : every one is asking me for Marwin Gonzalez, I am middle of the pack but should be competing this year in dynasty. Every offer has included a pick in next years draft but no players to help me this year. Should I sell high and get a decent pick or ride out Marwin and hope he can continue to play in my OF

2:05
Eno Sarris: First person to give you something better than a pick (or first pick) should get him.

2:05
Legit Starter: You buying shares in Jordan Montgomery, looks better as time goes on

2:06
Eno Sarris: Yeah as soon as I saw him in bigs and got some data I was into him.

2:06
Nickels : If you didn’t have access to stats and just watched baseball every day on tv, who do you think you’d overrate? Who would you underrate?

2:07
Eno Sarris: Overrate guys that hit home runs and do little else, pitchers with great velocity that are missing secondary pitches or command. Underrate guys like Robbie Grossman that are good but not great at a lot of things, and pitchers like Biagini maybe, pitchers with a good assortment of pitches that are not amazing.

2:07
KJ: Over the last calendar year, these are Joey Votto’s numbers:

694 Plate Appearances
195 Hits
39 Doubles
2 Triples
34 Home Runs
115 Runs
109 RBI
119 Walks
92 Strikeouts
.347 AVG
.458 OBP
.605 SLG

2:08
E ROD: Has he been good enough to be considered a front of the rotation guy rather than a 3-4

2:08
Eno Sarris: yeah the arm slot change begat better horizontal movement on his pitches, already had good sink on change and slider, has retained good velo for lefty.

2:08
C-LO: Roses really smell like poo pooooooo

2:08
Eno Sarris: one of my favorite lines of all time.

2:09
Eno Sarris:

2:10
Eno Sarris: Okay I give up I can’t catch up. Y’all got me. I gotta go do some work now. Thanks for hanging out!!
