Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 6/20/13
8:45 |
: see you in 15!
|
9:01 |
Off with your head (yes that’s it, but for someone here, it’ll be easy) |
9:01 |
Ladies & Gentlemen: Eno Sarris! PARASITE FREE FOR 4 DAYS! |

Umami burger coming to new york to compete against shake shack. Awesome! |
9:02 |
: They okay. Really expensive. We actually have one in Palo Alto.
|
9:02 |
Love beer graphs. Any plans to implement a search function? It’s hard to find beers/states if they’re not on the front leader board. |
9:02 |
: so many things in the plans. That’s one! Thanks.
|
9:02 |
I lost my sleeper and the bust-ginity this morning…. |
9:02 |
: I hope we took it easy on you.
|
9:03 |
Drop Morse for Blanks in 10-team w/ OPS? Upside! |
9:03 |
: Yes. If he’s actually K’ing less, he’s exciting.
|
9:03 |
Alcides Escobar, Scutaro, Franklin – right order ROS? |
9:03 |
: Franklin ahead of Scutaro at this point.
|
9:03 |
When is it acceptable to pick up Erasmo and stash on a team with a very small bench? |
9:03 |
: When you hear something concrete about him coming up.
|
9:03 |
Beer |
9:03 |
: Yes I’m having one tonight.
|
9:03 |
Porcello had one bad inning yesterday. Do you like him more than Parker/Garza/Colon types? |
9:03 |
: Than Colon, yes.
|
9:03 |
Do you friend twitter followers on Untappd? |
9:04 |
: Sure, hit me up @ enosarris
|
9:04 |
First in Runs and need HR/RBI: Trade Carpenter or Kendrick for Hardy? 10-team with OPS |
9:05 |
: Interesting. Carp is nice but a little bit more in real life. He’s got no steals and the BA will probably come down a bit. I wonder if you shouldn’t ask for an upgrade elsewhere for your trouble. Hardy’s an injury risk too.
|
9:05 |
Lucas Duda Update (with Bonus .gif) – 7/22 (.318/.464) with 2 doubles and an RBI. #ShaveJuanPierresMustacheOff |
9:05 |
Wil Myers – 5th OF in 10-team okay? |
9:06 |
: The upside makes him worth rostering. I wouldn’t stick too long in a redraft.
|
9:06 |
Tony Cigrani, ROS outlook? Worth hold 12 team mixed? |
9:06 |
: Sucks that he’s in the bullpen. I’d wait a bit.
|
9:06 |
Hey Eno- you’ll be happy to know I had a hotdog today in honour of your impending chat!! A quick question- so whenever you guys write articles about someone you like it’s really difficult to put it in perspective, I mean in terms of how much do you like them… Say Corey Kluber- you like him, right? Carson and Chris love him, but is he a top 70 pitcher, a top 50 pitcher, top 30 pitcher (with error bars of course!)? And of the top of your head, who would an ‘established’ pitcher of similar standard be? |
9:08 |
: I try to end my articles with some context, a few players I might drop for them and so on, but it’s not easy to give prescriptive opinions like that without knowing settings. Kluber to me is still a risk, since he’s obviously had trouble with the cutter flattening in the past (high BABIPs, high HR/FB). I like him better than Porcello. Better than Garza? Dunno. Maybe on the level of the Oakland dudes. Safer at home.
|
9:08 |
What’s your take on EY Jr? Worth a 10-team flier? |
9:08 |
: Not in a ten team.
|
9:08 |
Any recommendations for good red ales, especially stronger ones? Tried Lagunitas Lucky 13 last night and it was pretty good, but I realized I didn’t have much I could compare it to |
9:08 |
: I’m such an IPA guy that I only really like the reds that are really just IPAs with a little red in them. So I like Ninkasi’s imperial red.
|
9:09 |
If you could clone one position player and field an entire team (including pitchers) of this player, who would you choose? What about if you had to clone a pitcher? |
9:09 |
: Shoot, I’d say someone like Simmons because he was a pitcher and could be okay. Chris Davis pitched well enough the other day. Chris Davis? If I had to clone a pitcher… Carlos Zambrano? I know these answers are strange, but you need both sides of the game, and there are very few that can do both.
|
9:10 |
Ozuna slowing down in Miami…Yelich time soon? |
9:10 |
: Was always a K risk. I think Yelich still hurt, and he’s a K risk, and further away.
|
9:10 |
Is it time to sell Jered Weaver? |
9:10 |
: Has been for a long time.
|
9:10 |
Who would you rather own n a vacuum…Machado or Marte? It’s gotta be Machado right? |
9:10 |
: Yeah neither is a great plate discipline guy, so take the the guy at third even if he’s got an IFFB problem.
|
9:11 |
With Tulo out, my team is dead at SS. Is Josh Rutledge good enough to hold me over for 2 more months? He’s hitting .045 since he got called back up… |
9:11 |
: I’d give him a shot. Probably better than your other options.
|
9:11 |
Cespedes down 100 in OPS. Any hope? |
9:11 |
: Sure, he’ll have some nice power moments. The K% is a little scary though.
|
9:11 |
Soria’s almost back, but scheppers is pitching pretty well, and Joe Nathan refuses to die! when do you think soria gets his first save opp? late this year? late next year? |
9:11 |
: Never?
|
9:11 |
Was offered Profar and Corbin for my Josh Hamilton and Beltran. I’m playing for the future, have no hope this year at all. Take the deal or try to throw in a prospect in hopes he gives me Taveras/Bogaerts as well? |
9:12 |
: Throw in another veteran? Bogaerts for me, even though I love love Taveras, the Cards take forever with their dudes.
|
9:12 |
Mune says hello |
9:12 |
: That guy’s a trip.
|
9:12 |
In video games like The Show when you hit a fly ball there is a shady spot on the ground that gets smaller and smaller to help you track where the ball will the land. This should exist for the TV audience! I would think by now we have the technology. I want swing speed, pitch speed, ball of bat speed, apex, angle… I WANT IT ALL LIVE IN GAME NOW. please. |
9:13 |
Turns out tortoisehell cats are chimeras, two zygotes (4 parent cells) fuse early on and develop to form one (patchy) animal. Common in a lot of animals. How cool is that?! |
9:13 |
Boy, baseball is cool, isn’t it? |
9:13 |
: Strange interlude!
|
9:13 |
Hey Eno, if you had to pick two guys in a deep dynasty league: Springer/Soler/Correa/Singleton/Bryant |
9:14 |
: I like guys who don’t K a ton and have seen some combat. Soler and… Singleton? Springer Ks too much for me, Correa, Bryant haven’t done enough for me.
|
9:14 |
Rut-Roh! Rutlegde isn’t exactly doing great filling in for Tulo on my team, OBP league Nick Franklin? Scutaro? Drew? |
9:14 |
: Well I might take Franklin here, OBP league and all.
|
9:15 |
What would be the trade value of Bobby Parnell? Could the Mets get someone like Avisail Garcia or Nick Castellanos for him? |
9:15 |
: If they could, they should IMO. They need a good bat in the OF more than they need a reliever. They could make good relievers out of some of their secondary starting prospects right now.
|
9:15 |
You said something, maybe last chat, about not drinking stouts because you sense caffeine in them. Are you allergic or something? |
9:15 |
: No I just don’t do caffeine, so when I do it’s like fireworks.
|
9:15 |
Is it time to drop Evan Gattis? If I trade him I only expect pennies on the dollar. |
9:15 |
: Can’t you just keep him on your DL?
|
9:16 |
ROS Kemp or the kid on my son’s team that gets yelled at to hit it like he does at home? |
9:16 |
: Possible this time off has helped his shoulder…
|
9:16 |
Brewers should consider R.Weeks @ 1B – Yes or No? They’ve given everyone else a shot there. |
9:16 |
: Hart’s coming.
|
9:16 |
heading to 3 Floyds brewpub this weekend, they have a beer on tap, Apocalypse Cow, I want to try, they describe it as a “double India pale ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar”…have you ever tried an ale augmented with lactose milk sugar? what on earth is that going to taste like? are milk stouts similar? |
9:16 |
: I have never. That is what milk stouts do. I want this beer.
|
9:17 |
Thanks for the chat, Eno! How many innings (or other data) would be necessary to conclude that a given pitcher can sustain higher than usual strand rates? Are there any such cases? Even without attributing it to intangibles like grit, focus, etc., I struggle to accept that pitchers have as little control over it as the studies show. Halp! |
9:17 |
: SIERA research found a link between K% and LOB%, to an extent, so if you look at the SIERA number, it should help in this regard. I’ve never seen LOB% stabilize in-season.
|
9:17 |
Do you think Jesse Crain gets traded to a team that makes him their closer? |
9:18 |
: Well, Detroit is what we’re talking about here. I guess Crain is enough of a veteran to please Leyland, but is he really? I wonder if there’s a GM/Manager disagreement about how important a veteran closer is right now.
|
9:18 |
Going to Reichenbach Hall, new beer hall in NYC, for lunch. Jealous? |
9:18 |
: Jealous of anyone who lives in NYC. Unless they have kids.
|
9:19 |
Heads will roll – Metric |
9:19 |
: I was thinking the other version, but pretty good.
|
9:19 |
Good morning Eno! I have Moreland on the DL (tearing it up in the minors, back Friday) but I feel like I could land Rizzo for Aramis Ramirez, problem is then I’m using Arenado or Rendon at 3B. Is it worth it to make the offer (I’d be worried Moreland could turn out to be Chris Davis 2.0, you never know…). Thanks! |
9:19 |
: I don’t think it’s worth it. Aramis’ power will come.
|
9:19 |
i have to accept this puig to get longoria trade offer no? |
9:19 |
: I would.
|
9:19 |
A buddy of mine is going up to northern VT for a wedding and i have 2 cases of Heady Topper on order. Ever have it? I havent but rate beer gives it a 100! |
9:19 |
: BeerGraphs’ Number one.
|
9:20 |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll. My question is, are those lyrics directed at the food-service personnel at the O.Co Coliseum? |
9:20 |
: See. well. No comment.
|
9:20 |
Lyrics are definitely from Safety Dance by Men Without Hats |
9:20 |
: almost.
|
9:20 |
when does erasmo get called up and should he be better than wheeler? |
9:20 |
: Rather have the NL guy with all the pedigree, but all those walks… Still Wheeler. Until he walks five again next start.
|
9:21 |
Further on BG. The Saison leader board makes me sad I don’t live in Vermont. |
9:21 |
: The Vermont leaderboard is funny. All two breweries, very very good breweries.
|
9:21 |
Who do you like better at SS, Nick Franklin or Jhonny Peralta in a non keeper league? |
9:21 |
: Franklin.
|
9:22 |
Do you turn down requests to guest on podcasts by the dozen? Or does your agent handle that? |
9:22 |
: Mostly I say yes. Got things to PIMP.
|
9:22 |
What type of RoS do you expect for Aaron Hill and Adam Eaton when the return from the DL? Is Hill worth stashing since he is due back soon? |
9:22 |
: Eaton has taken so long I don’t expect much any more. Aaron Hill? low BA, some power.
|
9:22 |
test |
9:22 |
: passed
|
9:22 |
You starting Lackey today @ DET? |
9:23 |
: No I didn’t.
|
9:23 |
EJax, Kluber or Tommy Hanson for Dynasty formats? |
9:23 |
: Kluber.
|
9:23 |
NEED HELP! Would you trade Rios for Braun? What about Beltran for Braun? |
9:24 |
: Tough one. If he wasn’t on DL, yes to both. Those OFs didn’t cost you much, probably, and it looks like you have some depth.
|
9:24 |
So, after taking the CA Bar exam in February my brother picked me up from Oakland with, what I can only describe as, liquid gold. He had managed to obtain not 1, not 2, but 12 bottled of pliny the elder to quiet the BAR exam wolves. Problem is, I haven’t been able to get any since. Your a NorCal man, where do they have Pliny right now? |
9:24 |
: It’s seasonal. I haven’t seen it since spring.
|
9:25 |
How do you rank OAK SPs? QS, IP, K/9 (no wins) |
9:25 |
: Griffin, Parker, Milone, Colon (just cause I don’t see a full RoS from him), Straily (nervous about the fastball)
|
9:26 |
Do either Gausman or Bauer come back up anytime soon? Balto seems to have a revolving #5 door and in Cleveland Kazmir has really dropped back down to earth. |
9:26 |
: Yeah I think both will be back again.
|
9:26 |
: They’re both sixth starters and every team uses their sixth starters.
|
9:26 |
Help ease me into the reality that Smyly is never going to start this year… |
9:26 |
: Now’s the time, if ever. He’s still throwing multiple innings for what it’s worth.
|
9:26 |
I am last right now in whip and era 12 team 5×5…have no real pitching and everyone I trot out gets shelled, like porcello. my ace is hamels, with parker, Fernandez, liriano and kluber. no one will trade–I should make up some ground with this crew, right? |
9:27 |
: You’ve got better days in front of you, but I hope you have a good offense (no offense).
|
9:27 |
I was offered Bautista and Corbin for my Beltre and Anibal. Personally not a fan of Corbin, but Anibal’s shoulder might be disintegrating as we speak. Thoughts? |
9:27 |
: I think Corbin’s floor is fairly high, even if regression is coming. GB guy, in the NL. This is fine, if you can put JBau at third.
|
9:28 |
New micro-brewery in Chicago: DryHop. Damn, it’s good. |
9:28 |
: Is anything *not* dry-hopped?
|
9:28 |
Thoughts on Lowrie ROS. Is Nick Franklin going to outproduce him? |
9:29 |
: Could actually! Since Franklin steals bases. And Lowrie hasn’t missed a big chunk of time yet.
|
9:29 |
Does Putz close again? Stash if I own Bell? |
9:29 |
: yes and yes
|
9:29 |
Is Span hurt or awful? |
9:29 |
: Hard to tell because even when he’s right he’s like a .280/5/25 guy.
|
9:29 |
Yan Gomes is just a tease, right? Is points/AB is off the chart (no rate stats in my league) and his C, 3B, OF designations are fantastic. But he’s not going to get enough playing time to be worthwhile. Or am I wrong? Please say I’m wrong. |
9:29 |
: I don’t think he’s a third baseman, so where’s he going to play.
|
9:30 |
What do you make of guys with weird splits, like righties with better numbers against righties |
9:30 |
: That supposedly takes more than 1000 plate appearances to stabilize.
|
9:30 |
Will you be writing more on BeerGraphs? |
9:30 |
: I’ve written some. I’ll be posting tomorrow.
|
9:30 |
I have a logjam at OF. J.Upton, Cuddyer,Bourn D.Jennings,A Gonzalez and Heyward for 4 spots in a 12 team roto 5×5. Who should I drop? Or keep them all? |
9:31 |
: I don’t see a dropper. Could try to trade Cuddyer with something else for an upgrade.
|
9:31 |
All other factors being equal, do you choose the beer with the higher or the lower alcohol content? |
9:31 |
: Lower actually! The highest stuff (Barleywines) are just so thick to me.
|
9:31 |
I feel like I have to have heady topper now (skeptical that it’s really a 15-win beer), but saw it’s only available in Vermont? How am I supposed to get someone to send me some from Vermont? |
9:31 |
: It’s very very hard.
|
9:31 |
Big IPA fan huh? Have you had Sweetwater IPA? Best in the biz imo |
9:31 |
: Top tenner
|
9:31 |
What is your out look on brothers ROS? Should remain COL closer IMO |
9:32 |
: I thought Betancourt was hurt all year, and not in the groinal region. I could see Brothers taking it back, but Raffy will get it when he comes off the DL.
|
9:32 |
Time to stash Brian Wilson in deeper leagues and dynasties? |
9:32 |
: I’ve got him in some deep leagues, but with the total lack of buzz, I’m thinking it’s a waste.
|
9:32 |
Mike Leake? |
9:33 |
: Wrote a whole thing about him, and we talked about him in the podcast. I think he’s a decent final pitcher in mixed leagues. Probably take Kluber over him for K upside though.
|
9:33 |
: yes, I will now insert Kluber into every pitcher discussion. You’re welcome.
|
9:33 |
I don’t think either Machado or Marte would fare very well in a vacuum. |
9:33 |
Stone Vertical epic 12.12.12 or Ballast point tongue buckler |
9:34 |
This isn’t a fantasy question, but if you were the Pirates, would you deal Taillon, Polanco and Tony Sanchez for Giancarlo Stanton? |
9:34 |
: Yes. They have outfielders and decent enough catchers and could really use some serious POWER.
|
9:34 |
Has the sell-high window for Dom Brown closed? An ugly collar last night with trey whiffs. Just sit back and enjoy the 12 – 15 HRs he’s due ROS? |
9:34 |
: Everyone’s still skeptical. He’ll take his lumps, but I think he’ll still be a good OF3 RoS.
|
9:35 |
Aaron Hill coming off DL soon and I have too many 2B in my league. Standard categories with OPS. Can I just drop one of the following or should I use them as trade bait? Rutledge/Walker/K Johnson |
9:35 |
: I’d test waters with KJ but he’s my dropper.
|
9:35 |
Tradin! Reyes/Kuroda or Felix? |
9:35 |
: Gotta wait until Reyes is playing again.
|
9:35 |
Do I get to 20 HRs? |
9:35 |
: Hah. But I have said all along that I think his power upside is muted.
|
9:35 |
Is Strange Brew you favorite Beer Movie? |
9:36 |
: Oh that’s good. Why do I like Beerfest?
|
9:36 |
Closers lacking performance in non save situations. Mental? |
9:36 |
: Not a real thing.
|
9:36 |
How come nobody is talking about a potential trade target in Joakim Soria? If he can pick up a few ticks as a result of TJ like most do, he has the ability to close. Nathan can’t stay healthy all year…right??? |
9:36 |
: Nathan’s ligament is fresh still.
|
9:36 |
Will Buxton & Sano be up next year? If so, at what point? |
9:37 |
: Yeah Sano should be, outside chance at coffee this year. Next year, mid-season, but too much depends on how team is doing.
|
9:37 |
When is the Edwin Jackson turn-a-round coming? |
9:37 |
: You mean the one where he pitches to a 4 ERA rest of season? It’s not very exciting.
|
9:37 |
Zack greinke has stopped throwing his slider. He is throwing a cutter more often instead. |
9:37 |
: And those two pitches are often the same thing!
|
9:38 |
Chances Yoervis Medina runs away with the closer gig? |
9:38 |
: Not great. Worse control than Capps, worse velocity, same arsenal.
|
9:38 |
Do you think the Red Sox will move Iglesias over to 3B full time when Bogaerts arrives? |
9:38 |
: Other way around if that.
|
9:38 |
Am I the only one who finds it hard to believe Steve Lombardozzi deserves an MLB roster spot over an allegedly healthy but possibly crippled Danny Espinosa? |
9:38 |
: No, the Nats agree.
|
9:39 |
Do you consider umpires when streaming? Is this a thing worth monitoring, or is it too noisy? |
9:39 |
: not too noisy, just hard to get the info long enough before game to pick right pitcher. Think of Glavine/Gregg.
|
9:39 |
What are your opinions on Brandon Webb’s peak? GOAT sinker? Paired good k rates? Who has the highest peak of any pitcher all time? |
9:39 |
: Koufax? Pedro.
|
9:40 |
Touring SHipyard Brewing Company in an hour, any suggestions (going to Alagash instead is sadly not a viable suggestion). |
9:40 |
: Maybe try their dark beers. Don’t like their IPAs, sadly. Their smashed pumpkin is one of the more tolerable pumpkin beers.
|
9:40 |
Surprise destination for Yovanni Gallardo?.. |
9:40 |
: San Francisco?
|
9:41 |
Can Grandyman get over the bad luck and deliver 40R, 15 HR, 50 RBI, 5 SB? |
9:41 |
: What’s his timeframe? If you’re asking if I think he’ll still have power, yes.
|
9:41 |
And you don’t have to post this, but there was an article written on greinke already by I at the fantasy fix…but I do really think it is interesting and his warning signs should be a discussion …notice his zone%, release point compared to 2009, velocity, etc. |
9:41 |
: We’ll put Zimm on the case with his injury predictor.
|
9:41 |
wait, metric covered that? |
9:42 |
: No, I guess he got the band wrong. I just assume covers when someone gets the names right but band wrong. Cause I don’t know crap.
|
9:42 |
YBSK – Karen O is coming to eat your entrails… |
9:42 |
: I don’t even know what this means but it’s crazy so I posted it.
|
9:42 |
I was in college at a time when people didn’t line up for pliny the younger season. i was young, inexperienced, and, quite frankly, stupid. i went to russian river one night, not for the beer, but for the, i don’t know, drunk. i chugged 6 glasses of the younger that night. is there such a thing as retrospective rock bottom? |
9:43 |
: You were lucky. It’s great that way, when you stumble into a show and it’s The Shins at a bar with 50 people.
|
9:43 |
How do you feel bout picking up Esmil rogers\/ |
9:43 |
: Gonna have a breakdown on RotoGraphs today. I still think he’s a pitch short, but read Blake on the subject.
|
9:43 |
Im going this weekend to visit Hill Farmstead, The Alchemist (Heady) and the Ben and Jerrys Factory. Put in your order. Thx |
9:44 |
: All of it. In my belly.
|
9:44 |
Cliff Lee for Adamn Lind/Saltalamacchia fair in a keeper league? |
9:44 |
: I’d much rather have Lee side.
|
9:44 |
You like Beach? what to do with Medlin? |
9:44 |
: I think it’s Teheran going down when Beachy is ready, which isn’t yet.
|
9:44 |
who else is watching Andrew WK drum for 24 hours straight? http://pitchfork.com/news/51235-watch-andrew-wk-attempt-to-break-drumming-world-record-right-now/ |
9:44 |
: If I liked drum space more…
|
9:45 |
Do kids collect baseball cards anymore? Do they make baseball cards anymore? |
9:45 |
: Maybe (I think it’s adults now) and yes!
|
9:45 |
Andrus is overrated or very overrated? |
9:45 |
: In fantasy? the first. In real life? He’s pretty good with the glove.
|
9:45 |
rut rut for erasmo? |
9:45 |
: Fair trade. Banking on upside in both cases.
|
9:45 |
Is Matt Moore broken? And I don’t mean that in a sexual way. |
9:46 |
: Good cause I wouldn’t know. He always had a control problem.
|
9:46 |
Obviously Adam Lind will regress to some extent. Thoughts on him ROS?? |
9:46 |
: .280 with 25 homer pace, best OBP of his career.
|
9:46 |
I was offered Rendon for Ryu in a 4 hitter, 2 pitcher keeper league where I already have Strasburg, Greinke, Beachy, Porcello, Kluber, Jarrod Parker, and AJ Griffin. I need a 3B keeper for the future, as my current hitting keepers are CarGo, HanRam, and Rizzo. Should I take the trade since I have the pitching depth? |
9:46 |
: I would trade Ryu but I think you might be able to do better.
|
9:47 |
Wait only 2 VT breweries? I assume you mean Alchemist and… Magic Hat? Hill Farmstead should be there. Switchback? Rock Art? Lawsons? |
9:47 |
: I meant Alchemist and Hill Farmstead. Only because they have like 9 of the top 10.
|
9:47 |
9:47 |
I was out too late last night, a girl I met got me drunk and now it feels like I’m wearing a helmet too tight. |
9:48 |
muhuwahahahahahahaha |
9:48 |
: Phew. Had to finish off that interlude.
|
9:48 |
Think I right the ship or I’m still hurt? |
9:49 |
: Did you see his velocity chart? It’s tailing off some. I’m a bit worried.
|
9:49 |
Do you root for guys on your fantasy team against the team you are a fan of? As a Phillies fan who has Desmond that grand slam last night didnt sting as much as it should. |
9:49 |
: This is called Rotizophrenia. I usually bargain. “One homer from Starling Marte, but the Mets close em out 5-1.”
|
9:50 |
OBP league …. Mourneau, Morales or Moreland at the CI Spot? |
9:50 |
: Moreland.

Sierra Nevadas Northern Hemisphere Harvest Ale is “wet-hopped” see link – http://www.chow.com/food-news/93483/what-is-wet-hop-beer/ |
9:50 |
: And the Southern Hemisphere is too, and it’s outstanding.
|
9:50 |
starting heyward against neise today? |
9:50 |
: Yeah. If I’m sitting Heyward gainst a lefty, it’s one of those crazy release point guys like Sale.
|
9:51 |
Trade offer in an Al ONLY ROTO – Butler and Greg Holland for Pujols and Jose Veras. Which side wins? |
9:51 |
: Pujols side. Butler is looking like a .280/18 season.
|
9:51 |
bj upton worth picking up yet? |
9:51 |
: Sure, if you can stomach the BA.
|
9:51 |
Starlin Castro’s year is a mystery to me. You loved him preseason, calling yourself wrong now or is he a prime bounce back? |
9:52 |
: I still like him, and would say that some of the reasons I loved him where: 1) Rest of position was scary. 2) age/peripherals were lined up perfectly. 1) is maybe less true now, and 2) is still true-ish. He can go .290 with 14/25 pace RoS still, but it won’t look great on the year. I’ll buy him cheap next year though.
|
9:53 |
who leads the mariners in saves next year? |
9:53 |
: Capps? Only if he can ‘cap’ the platoon problems.
|
9:53 |
Is it just time to drop Hosmer? I don’t think he has anything at all going for him…. |
9:53 |
: He’s been going a little better recently, looking more like his .275/15/10 kind of self, but unless you need steals, that’s meh.
|
9:54 |
Is Matt Dominguez’s power the real deal, and do you see the batting average ever improving? |
9:54 |
: I believe in his power. I don’t believe in his BA.
|
9:54 |
What’s your take on Johnathan Singleton? Do you think he’s the real deal? |
9:54 |
: I’m watching his K% hard core when he gets to the bigs. could be anywhere from 20-30%, and it’ll be a big deal where that lands.
|
9:55 |
Mad Bum is a bad maamajamma and would have crushed Guzman…..did you see it? |
9:55 |
: Guzman seems to have started that whole shindig. Silly.
|
9:55 |
I love Kluber but am now looking for the next big thing. Any gold here: H Santiago, A Figaro, C Carrasco, J Alvarez? |
9:56 |
: Santiago has a chance. Him, Figaro and Alvarez all have fastball problems. Alvarez throws his 89. Figaro 95 but straight. Santiago similar. But I’ll take Santiago.
|
9:56 |
Are you taking Kluber over any of the OAK guys with K/9 and IP as cats? |
9:57 |
: I’ll take him over Colon. Milone/Parker? Harumph. Realized I forgot to put Anderson on there, he’s ahead of Milone/Parker when healthy. Kluber over.. Parker? Could be. Parker can’t get the K% he deserves with that swinging strike rate for some reason.
|
9:57 |
Do you ever drink something as simple as Coors Light? |
9:58 |
: Sometimes Stella, but would prefer a pils.
|
9:58 |
were you aware that mike axisa has created a model for an A-Rod centaur bobblehead? http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/eye-on-baseball/22489794/the-bobblehead-project-a-rod-the-centaur |
9:58 |
: I love you Mike Axisa.
|
9:58 |
Drop Cobb for Kluber? No DL spots. |
9:58 |
: no
|
9:58 |
Eno, would you sell high on Puig in a re-draft league? |
9:58 |
: yes, but depends on return.
|
9:59 |
We can Duda if we want to We can leave your friends behind Cause your friends don’t DUDA And if they don’t DUDA Well they’re no friends of mine |
9:59 |
Is Rosenthal the best reliever who isn’t closing? |
9:59 |
: yes
|
9:59 |
What’s your take on Lester’s recent struggles? The swinging strike rate had me terrified all year, and it seems to be catching up with him. |
9:59 |
: This might be him now.
|
9:59 |
utley or kinsler ROS? |
9:59 |
: Kinsler because he doesn’t have a degenerative knee condition.
|
9:59 |
Would you go as far to predict Cody Allen will be the closer this year or possibly next? |
9:59 |
: Let’s see if Papelbon gets dealt.
|
10:00 |
Will Strasburg be a elite pitcher and live up to the hype? |
10:00 |
: I think he is an elite pitcher and has lived up to the hype.
|
10:00 |
Should we be more concerned about Matt Moore’s velocity or Wil Myers projected k%? |
10:00 |
: Yes.
|
10:00 |
If say…your birthday was tomorrow, what beer would you be drinking? |
10:00 |
: My birthday is Monday. If it’s not Firestone Walker Double Jack, it’s something I’ve never had.
|
10:00 |
is the bartender done? |
10:01 |
: Damn and he never got me my drink. Oh. Wait. No, I think he just loses his fastball command from time to time. That might explain the high swSTR% and low K%, high BB%.
|
10:01 |
We know that increased Stress levels produce adrenaline and adrenaline reduces fine motor skills, pitching is very much about fine motor skills? give the importance place on 9th inning performance (real or not) Are you saying there is zero difference in stress levels in the 9th inning; real or perceived?? |
10:02 |
: I’m saying it hasn’t shown in the numbers from what I’ve seen. Probably because it’s pretty f’in stressful to go and pitch in front of a ton of people, so you probably have adrenaline each time you go pitch. So it’s just a question of shades of gray.
|
10:02 |
Do you think Rubby maintains as a starter and eventually gets a chance in the league this year? |
10:02 |
: It’s a battle right now. yes, though, they’ll try him as a starter at first. Look at how long the Padres gave Cashner. Just so much more value there.
|
10:03 |

Squeaky wheel gets the kick! |
10:03 |
You told me on twitter Dom Brown is 75% of stanton. dont you think that’s a bit high considering his HR rate will probably regress, and dude hasnt taken a walk in like 2 months? |
10:04 |
: Well I don’t think the walk rate matters much unless you in OBP… did you tell me that? True talent, I’d call Dom Brown a .275/25/10 guy most years, this year it’s looking like .275/32/12 kind of thing. That looks like 75% Stanton. Maybe even closer once you put the SBs in.
|
10:04 |
Am I stupid for rejecting (his) David Price for (my) Jose Fernandez in a keeper league? |
10:04 |
: Not until you see Price pitch in the bigs again this year.
|
10:05 |
ROS Bourn or Franklin for SB? |
10:05 |
: Um. Bourn by a mile!
|
10:05 |
What’s your favorite TV show? |
10:05 |
: Right now Mad Men or GoT. But Community is more of a ‘TV show” and so is Archer, so they deserve mention.
|
10:05 |
What AL recently drafted prospect would be worth grabbing in a dyntasy AL only draft next year? |
10:05 |
: Appel’s the closest.
|
10:06 |
I’m worried I’m losing my taste for big hoppy Imperial IPAs after not really enjoying Stone’s RuinTen the other day. On the other hand, I recently had a Boneyard Triple IPA and loved it. No question here, just ramblings from a confused beer enthusiast. |
10:06 |
: Could be you’re starting to zero in on exactly which hops you like. I hate summit hops, for example.
|
10:06 |
would you prefer to buy low on cain or hamels? has anything you’ve seen from these guys since the last time i asked this question convinced you they may be ok? |
10:06 |
: Cain has convinced me since that he’s fine.
|
10:07 |
: Hamels is my preference in terms of upside.
|
10:07 |
Do you know how to whistle? |
10:07 |

why aren’t Beer Graphs leaderboards sortable?? |
10:08 |
: Right now, if you click on state or style, you get the leaderboard for that state or style. Short answer: we working on it!
|
10:08 |
Waffles or pancakes? I ask to settle a bet with my coworker. |
10:08 |
: Pancakes for me. Waffles get stale faster, have too many pitfalls. The average pancake is better than the average waffle.
|
10:08 |
Jordan Lyles finally putting together a good season. He was a well regarded prospect 2 years ago ,yet there is no buzz around him. Playing in Houston obviously isn’t helping. The guy won’t get many W’s but I’m digging his other stats. Thoughts on him ROS? |
10:09 |
: We liked him on the podcast. GBs over Ks means his upside isn’t fantasy 1/2, but he’s useful.
|
10:09 |
is it worth noting that jeremy hellickson has issued only 3 walks in 43 inn? |
10:09 |
: And I was just about to drop him in a league or two. he’s better than this.

yeah yeah yeahs–heads will roll–hopelly a-trak remix! |
10:09 |

10:11 |
: have you been here before
|
10:11 |
I expected more from Prince Fielder this year… do you think he’ll perform slightly better from here on out? |
10:12 |
: I’ve never been a fan of him as a first rounder. Sure, he’s had some big seasons, but when I think of him, I think .280/30, and at 1B, that feels like a second rounder.
|
10:12 |
Trade jose fernandez to get Puig in a 6×6 dynasty league that uses OPS and K/BB as extra cats, and QS instead of W? |
10:12 |
: Sure, I take the hitter more often anyway.
|
10:12 |
Will Profar continue to get semi-regular at bats? I’m betting on it.. |
10:13 |

Beergraphs should consider some articles for aspiring brewers |
10:14 |
: We’ve got a pair of dudes going from home brewing to setting up their own nano brew that’ll be writing soon.
|
10:14 |
who closes in Phily when Paps is dealt? |
10:15 |
: Adams has been struggling, and doesn’t seem like a long term solution. Bastardo is a lefty. DeFratus is interesting. I think Adams gets first shot but DeFratus moves up in the pecking order. And with Horst, they actually could go lefty.
|
10:15 |
Favorite baseball stadium? |
10:15 |

just decided im gonna have a grilled cheese with tomato and bacon for lunch today so it pretty much doesn’t matter to me what else happens in the meantime, i could get hit by a freak hailstorm and get a parking ticket and i’d be like meh |
10:15 |
Jeff Locke. Discuss. |
10:15 |
: I don’t think I believe. I owned him a few times last year, watched some starts, and was like meh. But the home park helps, as does the league, so he’s ownable, just not bankable.
|
10:16 |
keep Brothers around when Betancourt gets back? |
10:16 |
: As long as he’s not wrecking your roster by sticking around (in terms of space).
|
10:16 |
why not pryor for the M’s closer? |
10:17 |
: You mean next year? maybe. But has similar problems (control especially) as the rest of them.
|
10:17 |
Do I try to trade Puig while he is red hot? I have him in one keeper and one non-keeper league. Who do you think I can get for him in a fair trade? |
10:17 |
: Keep him in the keeper.

oswalt worth a spot mixed 10 man roto |
10:17 |
: No, because I wouldn’t start him at home.

10:18 |
wtf does ENO stand for? |
10:18 |
: Enosferatu. Enosterous. Enosaurus. Enos. Enoz. Take your pick. (Actually named after Brian Eno, who produced U2, Talking Heads and created two music styles.)
|
10:18 |
Eno,love your interview pieces. Just wanted to let you know |
10:19 |
: Thanks! But I’m still mean?
|
10:19 |
If you were starting a fantasy league from scratch, which categories would you choose for hitters and pitchers? |
10:20 |
: There’s something so great about 5×5. I know it’s not saber, but it’s classic. In my long-term league that I started, I added OPS. Which is also not very saber. I’ve liked leagues where we took out BA and replaced with OBP, and added holds to saves (SV+HLD) so that all relievers are in play.
|
10:20 |
Thoughts… Cespedes/Blanks for Agon/Masterson? |
10:21 |
: Don’t really believe in Masterson, but even with the power outage, looks like in a redraft, Agone is the best player in deal.
|
10:21 |
when grandyman comes back i am going to have a dom brown related problem. 12 team league i have 4 spots for these 5: braun, bruce, cutch, grandy and dom… injuries might make the decision for me, but what do i do if they are all healthy / not suspended at once? (hasn’t been the case all year). |
10:21 |
: Given you have Braun, worry when it’s a problem.
|
10:21 |
chisek or rosenthal |
10:21 |
: In a saves league, take the closer.
|
10:21 |
I have Giancarlo at a good value in a keeper league. Would you look to trade him because of the injuries or stick with him as a building block? |
10:22 |
: At the very least stick with him until people forget the injuries a bit.
|
10:22 |

The lady behind me at Subway just now ordered 3 sandwiches and began by ordering them toasted with cheese, before bread and meat. And when it came to the meat, one of her orders was “That chicken with the stuff on it.” The server had to guess three times. (It was buffalo chicken.) So yeah, thank goodness this lady ordered AFTER me. |

Coors Light isn’t simple, it’s disgusting. Plenty of microbrews make simple light beers that don’t make you vomit. |

My momma always said I was slow, so please type slower so I can understand….just how does Paplebon being dealt affect Cody Allen’s closing situation? Remember….TYPE SLOW |

Hi mom! |
10:30 |
Hi mom |
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
18 Kluber mentions.
