Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 6/26/14

11:44
Eno Sarris: yes, chatting during the world cup game, the most important between my mother’s home country and my adopted country ever, yes I’m doing that. I reserve the right to lose focus from time to time, and also to exclaim out loud and perhaps turn into a werewolf.

Is Todd Frazier for real? Better option than Pedro ROS? he’s been hurting my squad for a while now, wondering if it’s right to abandon ship, and I’m pretty sure I can get Frazier in a deal involving him

12:00
Eno Sarris: Everything Frazier is doing is believable. The only difference between this year and 2012 is the added power. So yes, despite the act that I like Alvarez, Frazier is better.

Comment From Ben M.
You pulling for USA or Ze Germans?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Always root for the underdog in situations like this. So I root for America / Jamaica until the knockout stages, at least that’s been what I’ve done in the past. I think the US will lose today and advance anyway.

12:01
Comment From Kirk C.
Thoughts on the changes to USA’s lineup, especially messing with a back four that has been solid so far?

12:01
Eno Sarris: I’m a total fairweather fan in soccer. Watch champions’ league finals and world cups and maybe some euro cups…

Which Cubs starter do you like more ROS – Arrieta or Hammel?

12:02
Eno Sarris: Arrieta.

12:02
Comment From TB
Thoughts on Arrieta ROS? Are you holding on to him or is he more of a streamer’s delight?

12:02
Eno Sarris: Somewhere in between. I certainly won’t be starting him against Boston.

12:02
Comment From Ronnie
I’m currently trotting Aaron Hill out as my 2B in a 12-team mixed league, and Ben Zobrist just hit the waiver wire. Am I going to be better off riding it out with Hill? Or is Zobrist going to get it going again?

12:02
Eno Sarris: I like Hill here.

12:02
Comment From American League Hustle
Hi Eno. Happy belated Birthday!!! After your prediction last week that Mookie would be called up by your birthday, I finally cracked in my AL-only league and picked him up! So how much longer do I have to wait? Any chance the Sox could dump Drew and slot Mookie at SS? I can’t take it much longer!!!

12:03
Eno Sarris: I don’t think he’ll go to SS, I heard Mookie doesn’t love that position. I think CF is where he’s headed. Maybe longer than my birthday, but I don’t think it’ll be too long. Bradley can go back down to work on stuff, too.

12:03
Comment From Guest
It’s safe to say the Yohan Pino experiment is soon coming to a close. Is Alex Meyer his likely replacement?

12:03
Eno Sarris: 30-year-old rookies are almost never a good bet. Still waiting on Meyer, but I’m glad I traded him for JD Martinez in AL-LABR!

12:04
Comment From Miketron
Who would you rather own ROS, Heaney or Wheeler?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Heaney. Still worried about Wheeler’s command.

12:04
Comment From TB
Follow up to Arrieta….Compare and contrast to Alex Wood? Thanks Eno!! Go Beer!

12:04
Eno Sarris: Want Alex Wood much much much more.

12:04
Comment From Tony G.
Cron, Plouffe or Francisco ROS? And is the difference between the three significant?

12:05
Eno Sarris: Plouffe the surefire (injured) everyday player, but he’s right-handed, so if you have daily lineups, Francisco might be best option (don’t play him v LHP). In weekly, Cron.

12:05

Comment From Jays Fan II
Brett Lawrie is gone for the next month, and Steve Tolleson finds out today if he’ll be gone for an extended period of time. Let’s say he is, does that mean we can expect the Jays to make a move for a 2B real soon?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Their internal options are yuck yuck and yuck. Even if Munenori is fun. Darwin Barney would be cheap…

12:06
Comment From Anthony Kiedis
Regarding Alex Wood potentially hitting an IP limit later in the year, is it wise of owners in H2H leagues to consider HOODAP ME JABBA HUMMA SLIBBA JIBBA

12:06
Comment From zurzles
how good is JD Martinez? i’m basically benching one good OF every day to keep him on the roster. in related news i’m never drafting a full-time DH again.

12:07
Eno Sarris: He’s a safer play against lefties, and in power parks. Because that’s pretty much his one tool, and that’s why it’s taken him so long to be relevant.

12:07
Comment From JV
Better keeper–Sonny Gray at $17 or King Felix at $34?

12:07
Eno Sarris: I’ll take the 17 bucks.

12:07
Comment From Texas Dolly
I’ve never been so scared to see a closer come into the 9th inning as I currently am when Belisario steps on the mound. Think he still has the job come end of July?

12:08
Eno Sarris: May lose job to Lindstrom but I don’t think they’re going to make one of their (also mediocre) young guys more expensive now.

12:08
Eno Sarris: Nice one Howard.

12:08
Comment From Guest
Better util player Morales or Cron in 4×4?

12:09
Eno Sarris: I’m assuming Morales finds his power stroke sooner or later, he’s hit in pitcher’s parks before.

12:09
Comment From Os Fan
Kevin Gausman has to stay in the Orioles rotation going forward. Right?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Yes. His demotion was just about roster machinations anyway.

12:09
Comment From JV
Would you rather have Josh Donaldson at $15 in 2015 and 2016 OR $20 in 2015, 2016 and 2017?

12:10
Eno Sarris: I’d do the two-year extension, he’s not a no-doubter in terms of power, and he won’t be a .300 hitter most years.

Latos velo down considerably, sell while he’s still worth something?

12:10
Eno Sarris: Two MPH. If you don’t need him for this year, yes, this is a good time to sell. Injuries beget more injuries, pretty sure that was in the (fantasy baseball) bible.

12:10
Comment From taylor
Do you think I should deal Hosmer? What’s your take on him ROS?

12:11

Comment From Tom
Keuchel, T. Walker (assuming he gets slotted into the rotation) or Gausman ROS? I’m weary of Keuchel lately

Comment From Graham
Who are your personal top 5 prospects, based on potential fantasy production 2015-2018?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Not my forte, but I do like using K/BB to put people in bust bins, and by that look, I like Polanco, Betts, Taveras… I’ll give Bryant a pass for slightly high K%, and pick a pitcher last.

12:13
Comment From Miketron

Would you be willing to cede some value in a trade to acquire Dickerson if you’re in the top 3 in a league and are shooting for upside?

12:19
Eno Sarris: I’d rather hold than buy. I see a window for PT later, but when cuddyer, morneau and cargo are all healthy, even if barnes/stubbs head to platoons, that means Blackmon and Dickerson will be bloodsporting for time.

12:19
Comment From lemonbelly
Danny Duffy is getting results.

12:20
Eno Sarris: With no pitch that’s above average by peripherals and a loooong history of bad command. I’m not buying at all.

12:20
Comment From Nelson
I know you started the Mookie Betts bandwagon, but at this point, how is he not the most overrated prospect in the game, especially if hes an outfielder?Do you want to also be the 1st to jump off the wagon?

12:21
Eno Sarris: I’m getting some decent offers in my leagues where I bought shares. It might be time. I did think he would be a 2B, just on another team. I think he could .280/.360/10/25 from the start, but that’s not a star.

12:21

Traveled cross country to see the Blue Birds play on monday VS. The yankees. Security tried to take a young ladies sign that read: “1 BJ is better than 10 yanks”. After enough crowd berating, they eventually ceded and let her keep her sign. Democracy!

Who am I? Am I good? I threw 7 innings Monday night with 1K but only gave up 4 hits.

12:27
Eno Sarris: Do not like. Threw twice as many breakers as fastballs, got two whiffs on 42 breakers, multiple arm slots and history of bad command. I think he looked like Old El Duque.

12:27
Comment From Vandy Commodores
is Carlos Martinez a starter the rest of the way? Is he a better option than Quintana or Lackey?

12:27
Eno Sarris: His change looks vastly improved by results. His upside is surely higher. I think quintana is fungible in mixed leagues.

12:27
Comment From Stephen
Eno, in my quality starts league Andrew Cashner was dropped and Danny Duffy is also available. Would you drop Jared Cosart for either of them?

12:28
Eno Sarris: YES YES YES Cashner.

12:28
Eno Sarris: weird. the question was should he drop Cosart for Cashner.

12:28
Comment From JayT
Which do you like best out of Duda, Dunn, and Singleton? It’s a keeper league, but I’m in first place right now, so I’m slightly less concerned with next year.

12:29
Eno Sarris: Duda best mix of now and later.

12:29
Comment From Gwynning Streak
What’s your opinion on Jesse Hahn? So far so good at every level.

Say you’re the Blue Jays. What do you do with the infield at the deadline?

12:36
Eno Sarris: I picked them to win division this year I think! I really like that team. Call up Kingham!

12:36
Comment From Joe
You like d’Arnaud or Navarro (good offense, park, and switch hitter) better as a backup to Carlos Santana in a 12-team mixed?

12:36

Are pitchers like Drew Hutchison, who topped 130 IP only one season in the minors, more likely to tank ROS because of the extra workload and the summer heat? Is he trade worthy, or droppable in a 12 team mixed roto? Thanks.

12:37
Eno Sarris: I’d try to trade him yes. Might see command slip too.

12:37

Dynasty league, trying to win this year, should I take the opportunity to buy on Shields (price is relatively low, imo, Arrieta and Sean Manaea)?

Keep Derrick Norris or trade Chapman for Mesoraco in a keeper league?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Stick with the cave man.

12:38
Comment From Clark D
Regarding Latos’ FB velocity, its virtually the same as his first few starts of 2013. First 5 starts of 2013, he averaged just above 90 and topped out at 93-94. Thats very similar to his first three 2014 starts.

12:39
Eno Sarris: Interesting. Usually fastball velocity stabilizes after three starts. I’m not a huge fan of his. Feel like velocity very important to him and all pitchers lose velocity. And past injury predicts future injury.

12:39
Comment From Snuffy
I’ve got Castro and Segura at SS in a 12-team 5X5 dynasty league. Thinking about picking up Brad Miller or Eugenio Suarez as insurance for Segura, but I’d have to make a tough cut. Would you pick up either of those guys, or hope for Segura to get it together? Thanks!

12:39
Eno Sarris: I’m fine with Segura.

How does a group of Encarnacion-Dozier-Donaldson-Jones-Gomez-Brantley-Taveras-King Felix-Wainwright-Gray look in a 12 team OBP league for next year. It would cost me half of my $260 so i would have 130 to spend on 13 players (6 pitchers/7 hitters)

Comment From Bench
I’m not saying this to pump your tires, but you’re easily my favourite fantasy expert in the game today. So I’m curious to get your take on the following: when it comes to Mookie Betts, I’ve seen a variety of opinions from other writers, including a few here on Fangraphs, saying that that he won’t be called up until September. Yet others like yourself have on the verge of being called up. Why such different timelines? Do you guys get your info from different places or is this simply a guessing game? Thanks!

12:46
Eno Sarris: All guessing. But how much more time would YOU give Bradley Jr.?

I was offered Holliday/Rodney for my J Bruce/Betts in a dynasty league. I turned it down, did I do right?

12:47
Eno Sarris: yeah, I think now is the time to sell Holliday hard.

Buxton/Heaney or Gallo/Nelson? Points league Eno! Points leeeaaggguuue!

12:47
Eno Sarris: Buxton side.

12:47
Comment From Matt
I asked Paul last night, he disagreed, but is Puig a little overrated? I think he’s still a really good player and an All-Star, but I feel like prior are still riding high off his amazing month of May.

12:48
Eno Sarris: Every player has an ebb and flow. I think the sum is enough now to say he’s a star.

12:48
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Why are teams not intetionally hitting people as much as they used to? I know its giving them a free baserunner, but pitchers like Gibson can attribut *some* of their success to chin music and beaning hitter who crowded the plate!

12:48
Eno Sarris: I for one applaud the idea that we shouldn’t be hurling baseballs at each other at 90+ mph.

So, what is actually wrong with Soriano? I feel like the Yankees know something we don’t…

12:49

In a standard 10 team H2H dynasty league, would you deal Rizzo and Bryant for Harper? Have Belt and Hosmer too. No chance of winning this year. Been hesitant to accept the offer.

12:49

I was wondering if there is any stat like K/BB x K-BB%. K-BB% underrates Maddux in his prime, and K/BB underrates Marmol in his prime.

12:50
Eno Sarris: Both have issues, yes. I don’t mind having a little BIP sauce in there (GBs).

12:51
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Did you see (or hear) the fans in Toronto Boo Derek Jeter? Every other stadium has given him standing ovations and were cheering his name. Yet the ignorant fans in Toronto actually booed a legend (I am canadian and I was ashamed of this). Even the announcers on the jays radio were saying this was shamefull.

12:51
Eno Sarris: I’m a little tired of the Derek Jeter Goodbye Party.

Ottavino has been struggling recently. Do you still think he’s the Rockies’ closer in waiting or has Rex Brothers retaken that position?

12:52

12:52

assuming you have a safe option for your childs safety, does Madam Eno partake in our favourite hoppy beverage?

12:53
Comment From Rated Rookie
Garrett Richards: ace with a lot of walks?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Not an ace if he walks a lot, but not necessarily going to have a ton of walks. (had to actually check his page because I’ve never associated him with bad command).

12:54
Comment From Snuffy
Do you think Josh Rutledge continues to hit, and is there any place for him on this team going forward? Thanks!

12:55

What are your thoughts on hanging on to DL’ed guys in redrafts? I have Lawrie in a 350-deep player pool and think he’s borderline droppable but I’d like to know if you have general rules of thumb for estimated DL time, quality, depth of league, etc. Thanks!

12:56
Eno Sarris: If I have the DL slot, I keep him. If I need help at his position, I keep him. It takes me a while to drop a guy.

12:56

12:57
Comment From Messis left foot
Would you sell Cliff Lee (in dynasty) if he comes back and starts pitching well?

Eno, the people need to know what you think about Jesse Hahn & Matt Shoemaker, and we need an update on Gausman after his start Friday. I’m sure you’re higher on Gausman but are Shoemaker or Hahn for real?

12:58
Eno Sarris: I’ll take Hahn over Shoemaker. Better fastball. Gausman over both because nasty stuff, more innings than Hahn.

12:58
Comment From Art Vandelay
I just don’t understand Marlon Byrd.

12:59
Eno Sarris: Decided to be a slugger instead of an all-around player, swung harder, missed more, hit it further. Also: maybe some “help.”

12:59
Comment From Adrian
I owned Billy Butler and he seemed to have adjusted, unfortunately I also own Pedroia and Mauer. Do I still stay patient with them or sell low while I can?

12:59
Eno Sarris: I’d sell low on Pedroia, who’s name might be less sullied. Playing through injury again IMO. Tanks his power.

12:59
Comment From Steve
What do you make of Vance Worley? He was relevant two seasons ago before falling on his face in Philly. Think he’s back to his old form with the Bucs?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Relies on called strikes. That makes me nervous.

1:00
Comment From Johnny Rockets
What’s your gut telling you about the Nationals when they’re at full strength? No way they’re gonna be taking LaRoche out of the lineup more often to keep Espinosa in there, right?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Agreed.

1:00
Comment From Jason
Dynasty points league: Correa, La Stella, Franklin, Alex Meyer, Jansen for Bryce Harper?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Selling low on Correa, but the injury may push his timeline. If he wasn’t in there, slam dunk.

1:01
Comment From Steve
Hold onto Bundy in the hopes he breaks the rotation after the ASB or drop him for a streamer in a competitive 14-team mixed? I can’t believe they’ll put him in the bullpen as suggested yesterday…could they?

1:01
Eno Sarris: Look at what they’ve done with Gausman. And they won’t have a ton of innings to give him. I don’t think you need to hold him.

1:01
Comment From odbsol

Time for everyone to wrongly crucify Bradley again.

1:03
Comment From Biggus Dikus
Are Mchugh, Richards and Keuchel 1 season wonders or long term solutions in dynasty leagues?

1:04
Eno Sarris: Richards has the stuff to bet on. Keuchel has a balanced arsenal and good approach, even if he’s not as good as he is right now. I’ll admit a little more nervousness with McHugh.

1:04
Comment From Nelson

Strategy question: what is your go-to strategy when ERA and WHIP are holding you back in the standings?

1:06
Eno Sarris: This is your last chance to move those boulders. By All-Star Break, you’re going to have too much work to do and you’ll have to punt.

1:06
Comment From Josh
who do you think has been the best reliever so far- Betances, Kimbrel, Street, Doolittle, or other

1:06
Eno Sarris: Doolittle gets my vote.

1:06

I’m having a hard time figuring out Ozuna. Is this the type of production we can continue to expect, particularly with HRs and RBI’s? In a dynasty league, would you trade him for Jesse Chavez if they both have the same price?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Rather have the hitter. He has nice tools, just not the best plate discipline or home park.

1:07
Comment From Bigums
Fight to the death, who wins? Alexi Lalas or Michael Ballack?

If I was offered Chapman for my Blackmon or Springer and Cody Allen would you take it? Blackmon/Springer share time as my 3rd outfielder and bench. My only closers are Doolittle and Allen. H2H redraft. GO USA!

1:10
Eno Sarris: I’d take Chapman for Blackmon. I like Blackmon, but more like a .280/18/18 guy.

1:10
Comment From Dallas
I notice a lot of folks down on Rajai? Platoon or not he’s still gonna swipe 40 this year – that’s all anyone should expect.

I completely agree with your take on Betts, i.e. Bradley Jr. being bad and Betts being moved to CF in Triple-A. If you and I see this, what is it that holds other experts from sharing the same sentiment?

1:11
Eno Sarris: perhaps they think Boston is conceding and will want to keep Betts cheap. But I think the aggressive moving and position switch argues the move is nigh.

1:11
Comment From Guest
how stoked would you be for a bay world series and your new edition to your family?

1:18
Comment From C
And if I need steals slightly more, would you still prefer Blackmon/Allen instead of Springer/Allen for Chapman? And if you do not answer…I WILL BRING BACK THE ROTTEN APPLE!! Also, how different are Arenado and Wright when Arenado is back and healthy?

1:19
Eno Sarris: Arenado not going to have the steals that Wright does, that separates them still. You know, I don’t like trading for closers and if you’re trading a closer for a closer… nah.
