11:44
Eno Sarris: I’ll be back soon!

11:46
Eno Sarris: In the meantime enjoy an oldie.

Comment From Sandy
Eno time!

12:05
Eno Sarris: Like, I’m late so it’s Eno Time.

12:05
Comment From Bobert
David Peralta’s Steamer projections look surprisingly OK. Worth a flyer?

12:06
Eno Sarris: What about playing time though? I struggle with these old guys with different stories. He must be at or post peak by definition, but do we know his true talent? He was a pitcher for all those years, not struggling as a hitter.

12:06
Comment From Billy Beane
Derek Norris is obviously having a breakout season, but it almost seems like the fantasy community is more excited about what he’ll do in 2015. Is that because Jaso’s expected to be gone and Norris will have a full-time job?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Yeah, right now he only hits against righties when injury forces the manager’s hand. Good news is, lots of injury-riddled outfielders and first basemen on that team, so more Vogt and therefore more Norris. This year. Next year, giddyap.

12:07
Comment From Biggus Dikus
Is it possible to make a black and tan with black xantus and opal? I paired them a few days ago and it was awesome.

12:07
Eno Sarris: It’s possible because you did and that sounds great.

12:07
Comment From Zach
Trade for Gattis? Give up M. Montero for him (plus something extra to sweeten the deal)

12:08
Eno Sarris: See Gattis is like Peralta. Sure, he was old, but he was old because he dropped out of life for a while. Not because he couldn’t hack it at Double-A and then suddenly started beating up on the young guys out there. The BABIP is a little inflated, I still think Gattis is a .260 hitter with his plate discipline, but the power is real.

12:08
Comment From American League Hustle
Did Eno enjoy the all-star game? Favourite moment?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Futures Game. All-Star Game itself, I spent in the basement watching it on a projection as I waited from players to come out of the clubhouse to give crappy short quotes. That wasn’t a ton of fun.

12:09
Comment From JEB
Best beer you’ve had in Chicago so far?

12:10
Eno Sarris: Well best local beer was probably the Zombie Dust I had on tap at Three Floyds (not the Dark Lord I had), but I love sours and the Cantillon we had last night at Sabeermetrics’ house was awesome.

12:10
Comment From Doug
Dynasty League with QS and Wins for SPs and Negative Ks for hitters (meaning Hitters have less value then SPs) would you deal Freeman/Russell for Strasburg? In 1st place already.

12:11
Eno Sarris: What would be awesome is if you won the league and still had Freeman and Russell. I say no, you can still find pitching. Freeman’s power plus K rate is fairly valuable in your league.

12:11
Comment From Johnnycakes
A few 2015 ranking lists have come out recently, and all of them have Kole Calhoun ranked in the top-10 for AL outfielders next season. Is that crazy or are you on board with that idea as well?

12:12
Eno Sarris: See this is where you have to be more careful. Calhoun is 26, and played baseball continuously. So he doesn’t have as much upside as some think. Doubt he steals ten bases next year, doubt he hits much more than 20 homers. I guess with a good average, in the AL, okay. But not overall.

12:12
Comment From Texas Dolly
Derek Holland is still available in my AL-only keeper league. Is it worth picking him up now and stashing him?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Yes, do it now.

12:13
Comment From Tube
Thoughts on CJ Cron. Ok to drop Choo for him if I need power?

12:13
Eno Sarris: I’m not dropping Choo.

12:13
Eno Sarris: IS THAT CHOO

12:13
Comment From AL Pitching Coach
Start Kevin Gausman in Oakland on Sunday?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Yes!

12:13
Comment From Curious George
Can we expect Bradley Jr. and Betts to stay up ROS in Boston? If not, who do you think gets sent down?

12:13
Eno Sarris: JBJ if it’s my team.

12:13
Eno Sarris: But i think they both stay up. Development time.

12:14
Eno Sarris: Plus they have to decide who’s going to play CF next year.

12:14
Comment From THE average sports fan
Who are some pitchers to avoid in second half because of inning limits?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Jesse Hahn told me he probably has 120 IP, as much as I love him.

12:14
Comment From Fister? I hardly know her!
What are your thoughts on Matt Shoemaker as a fantasy SP? Thanks.

12:14
Eno Sarris: Been talking about him a lot on the podcast. Good fastball, great slider/split. Good K-BB. No pedigree, but I can’t find a reason not to like him.

12:15
Eno Sarris: Maybe a little bit of homeritis, but good home park for that.

12:15
Comment From Chris T.
Do you think Pineda is worth picking up in a monthly draft at the beginning of August (he’s supposed to be back mid-Aug.), or would you wait until September to see some results? Thanks!

12:15
Eno Sarris: I guess so, but it doesn’t sound like the kind of league where you can put him on the DL and I’d rather pick up a healthy pitcher.

12:16
Comment From Pale Hose

Comment From stonepie
odorizzi or tomlin?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Odorizzi. Tomlin still giving up a ton of homers.

12:17
Comment From Christian
Your Chris Young article from weeks ago fascinated me, mostly because Chris Young himself is so different. Do you think his approach can be repeated by other pitchers or something he can uniquely do because of his height?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Actually I think Sean Doolittle is doing it a bit. I’m starting to hear CY a bit. I think the league is all low-ball pitchers and hitters. Look at that HR/FB graph — hot zone low and in, right where Doolittle says hitters are trained to ‘drop the bat head on the ball.’ Could more pitchers find success high in the zone? I think so, particularly ones that pitch in pitcher’s parks.

12:19
Comment From Sizzle
Corey Seager ranked #5 on KLaw’s Midseason Top 50 Prospects. Seems like a huge jump from the preseason.

12:19
Eno Sarris: Huge to see the jump in power while also cutting Ks. My only question is, is he too big for SS? I think so.

12:19
Comment From Jake
TRADE: I was offered Brandon Belt & Stephen Vogt for my D. Mesoraco in a 5×5 12-team, roto league w/ 4 Keepers. Given age, and Dez’s production I have to get more right? (I have C. Santana to play C if that helps)

12:20
Eno Sarris: Vogt isn’t giving you anything if you have Santana. Try for more. You’re right to wonder if Mes is a great keep-four keeper, so you can sell him with Santana waiting in wings.

12:20
Comment From Guest
Any good brewery recommendations for the Carolina/North GA area?

12:20
Eno Sarris: NoDa and Highland if you can get there.

12:20
Comment From Shteaven
Giles to close if/when Papelbon is traded?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Yes I think so. The command might still bight him in the ass, but he’s getting more eighth innings than Diekman if I remember right, and he’s got explosive stuff.

12:21
Comment From juan pierres mustache
Never move, guys. I tried it once and now I don’t have working internet, the washer and dryer don’t work, they gave me the wrong mailbox key, and my tap water tastes funny. The worst part is that these are all things that I should have investigated prior to signing a lease and it’s my fault and I’m gonna go home and sit in silence and drink a beer on the floor

12:21
Eno Sarris: One man, in search of a lude.

12:21
Comment From Shmu
What are your thoughts on Jean Segura? Turnaround? Positive regression?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Impossible. Without the tragic back story, I’d say yes, this guy can still hit .270/10/35. With it? No idea.

12:21
Comment From Al
Would you move two keepers for Mccutchen(44$) in an NL only? …. (1$) Ramos and a (7$) Rosenthal?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Yes, those two keepers I would.

12:22
Comment From Bart
Is Choo worth getting in a trade for either Rios or Blackmon assuming he turns it around in the 2nd half?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Not enough of a possible upgrade. Rios, for example, is probably projected for the same or better than Choo. Worth getting Choo, but maybe for a sell high pitcher.

12:22
Comment From Sandy
Eno, how do you embed videos in a comment here? My earlier attempt at doing so clearly failed.

12:23
Eno Sarris: No idea, I have the benefit of these tools. Perhaps you could use the embed HTML off of Youtube?

12:23
Comment From Alex
what is sonny gray’s value as a trade target? I offered him for joe nathan and jd martinez and was surprisingly turned down… am i that far off?

12:23
Eno Sarris: I’d rather have Gray than those two.

12:24
Comment From StartWedman
At what point should owners be worried about Oscar Tavares this year? I know long term he is still a top prospect (SSS), but how much longer will the Cardinals put up with his current output?

12:24
Eno Sarris: I’d give him another 50-70 plate appearances this year. I think teams generally like to give a guy 100+ before they move on. And I’m not talking long term. Long term, they’ll give him years.

12:25
Comment From AL
If you had to choose 2 of these 4 rookies, to start a team around, who would it be? Polanco, Bogaerts, Hamilton, Abreau?

12:25
Eno Sarris: My head says Polanco and Bogaerts because i love their real-life games. But Hamilton and Abreu is the combo that will win you more fantasy games.

12:25

is rajai davis the ideal bench player? doesn’t start everyday but when he does, he’s always worth putting in there

Now I have no idea what to do with Kemp. But I’m trying to deal him. I’m tryin Eno!

I have Sale, Gio, Gray, Simon, Richards, Arrieta, Simon with Mejia and Rosenthal. I am lacking in a 4th outfielder rolling out Span in a 12 teamer. Worth exploring trade options or try and win with that staff and hope for the best?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Sell Simon plus Span like it’s going out of business.

12:28
Comment From austin
is tommy la stella gonna be good for the braves for awhile? Or do you think they would be smart to try and make a play for a MI prospect like Mookie or one of the Cubs guys?

12:29
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll be great. At least while under control.

12:29
Comment From Guest
thoughts on Enrique Hernandez’s upside? (protip: pronounce his nickname as “kiQUE”, to avoid sounding antisemitic)

12:29
Eno Sarris: Maybe something like .280/15/5? He changed his stance, and it’s worked for his contact rate.

12:30
Comment From Bill
EEEENOOOOOOOOOOOO! Zips projects Kennedy to be #15 SP in my points league for ROS, one in front of Shields. You buying that?

12:30
Eno Sarris: No, not really. Always going to give up homers. Could end up in AL.

12:31
Eno Sarris: Ninja vs Unicorn on tap at Bad Apple last night. Thanks to Beermenus for finding it.

12:31
Comment From Sagar
I know you are a big fan of Mookie, but would you rather have him or Alcantara in a dynasty?

12:31
Eno Sarris: Classic upside versus floor discussion. I like having floor, I like little bust rates.

12:31
Eno Sarris: But the smaller your league is, the more you should go for ceiling.

Buying a growler of local beer to drink in the backseat of a road trip: Good idea or best idea? (A pecan brown ale, for those curious)

12:32

Thoughts on Conor Gillaspie? Is he really this good?

12:32
Eno Sarris: No, should return to being an empty .270 batting average soon.

Comment From Adam
Could the brewers make a push for Price with an offer of Nelsen and Haniger? Should they?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Would be amazing to take advantage of the back end of a window. But their farm system is barren. Now is not the time for rebuilding, though. I’d do it if the Rays would take that, but I don’t think they will — they turned down Russell…

12:33
Comment From Marty
I broke two bones in my hand diving for a softball, out 4-6 weeks. cheer me up. eno!

12:34
Eno Sarris: Aw damn. That sucks. Heard from someone that they’re using the Josh Donaldson / Adrian Beltre school of hitting in softball to great success — drop the back knee to make your bat mimic the flight of the pitch as it drops toward the plate. Could maybe practice that before you can play…

12:34
Comment From Sinbad
Do you find that players perform better in contract years?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Mostly a bunk theory in the numbers. One thing they do is play more often. Stay on the field during a nagging injury, maybe. The numbers say only PA goes up across all contract years.

12:35
Comment From StartWedman
Is it possible that Xander turns out to be a really good, real life SS, but only a decent fantasy SS? SS is suddenly becoming a deep pool with different threats of power and speed right?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Totally. Yes.

12:35
Comment From Guest
Is Tanner Roark for real?

12:36
Eno Sarris: He’s going to give up more homers some day, IMO. The sinker is a good pitch, but it’s not great. And a 45% ground-ball rate is good but not great. Not enough evidence that he’s a true talent 6-8% HR/FB guy.

12:36
Comment From Brad
my league is 3 day period this week. sucks. pts league. is gausman start in oak this week better than chapman? Thanks.

12:36
Eno Sarris: In a three-day window, yeah. Gaus will get you points. Chap might not even pitch.

Comment From ADMarshall
Sorry to continue our conversation from Twitter, but the other guy is pressing for an answer. He’s offering Heyward, Cobb, and K. Jansen for Arenado in a 12-team dynasty league. I have Rendon and Carpenter at 3B too, with D.J. Peterson stashed (not sure he’s a 3B though) and Maikel Franco available as a FA. What do you think?

12:37
Eno Sarris: I love love Rendon. I take the deal if the parts help a ton.

Heading into next season, my 6 keepers in a regular ROTO league are Kipnis, Harper, Springer, Tavares, Trumbo, and Donaldson. Is there any area of weakness I should address from an offensive standpoint?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Might be interesting to see if you can improve the Trumbo spot, or maybe trade him for a buy low SS like XB. Will have to wait for Trumbo to heat up a bit first though.

12:38
Comment From Marty

IS Craig even roster-able at this point in standard 5×5 10 team leagues?

12:39

12:39
Comment From chris
Do you expect much from Duffy, Odorizzi, Gausman and Stroman in the second half? Innings limit issues on these guys?

12:41
Eno Sarris: I want Gaus and Stroman. I think they can do something good. Stroman only had 122 innings last year, so he probably has 70-80 innings left. Gausman has maybe 90 left. Good news is they are on competitors, so they more likely to push the innings totals.

What are your honest to goodness thoughts on Dickerson? Long-term.

12:45

12:45
Eno Sarris: Yelich!

Comment From Spencer
With how much research is being done on pitch framing, do you think there will be a counter from offenses? Maybe fake steals and fake bunts become more prominent to get good pitch-framing catchers into bad positions. Is the impact big enough to even warrant attempting to counter it?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Did you see the Tulo flinch? I’m going to start asking batters about Batter Framing.

12:46
Eno Sarris: Bill Barnwell and I had a convo about that topic that inspired me.

12:46
Comment From Dyson
In a vacuum, would you rather have Corey Seager or Lucas Giolito for the next 3 years.

James Jones–enough avg. and steals to be very rosterable in roto, no? Criminally underowned?

Eno, my friends and I are planning on turning our mixed redraft league into a keeper next season. What keeper rules should we adopt? Thanks!

12:48
Eno Sarris: Make them flexible but keep more than three or five. I went from keep ten to keep the entire roster (dynasty) over the course of five years and people liked that.

12:48
Comment From Sizzle

Who would you say are some of your favorite players that are not “stars”? Say, 3? Mine would be Hisashi Iwakuma, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Kyle Seager.

12:49
Comment From Sadwick
juan pierres mustache, there are legal ways to break a lease if it gets too bad. A friend and I had to do this in Macon Georgia when they took over a month to repair the air conditioner through July/August. In the meantime, poach some wi-fi, check for a good Laundromat, buy a water filter, drink good beer, and stay strong.

Comment From Anton
Is it fair to say that Derek Norris now has the starting job at catcher for the A’s?

Is there anything else you can learn about a hitter from ISO, other than his extra base power? High BABIP, etc?

12:53
Eno Sarris: There are some elements of speed in there (turning a single into a double), and yes a high ISO can show the power that can help turn outs into hits. But ISO takes like 550 PA to stabilize.

12:53
Comment From Nolan in NOLA
Which of these prospects should I look to move? Took over a team in dead last in virtually every category in a 12-team dynasty league with 40-man rosters – Javier Baez, Gary Sanchez, Matt Davidson, Albert Almora, Maikel Franco and Andrew Heaney

12:53
Eno Sarris: I’d trade Gary Sanchez because catchers take forever. Baez and Almora have decently high bust rates, if someone wanted to give me a nice big package of young talent for those guys, I might do it.

12:54
Comment From Matty
Could you give me a brief rundown of your opinion on Scott Kazmir? Might trade for him in a keeper and looking for 2-3 years out of him. Thanks!

How much do you discount interleague innings? For example, Cole Hamels has a 4 + ERA in 175 interleague innings. If that just noise, or would it be something to worry about for an AL team?

12:56
Eno Sarris: That’s interesting. A decent sample, too. As much as I think vs Team stuff is stupid, vs league has a little bit of interest from me.

12:56
Comment From the Old Catfish
Hold up! Hard hit percentage? Where do I find that? And on a scale of broken glass to telepathy, how useful is it?

12:57
Eno Sarris: We’ve got some access to it. We’re working on an xBABIP that beats the old LD/FB/GB ones, but it’s still year to year under .5, so BABIP remains the big mystery.

What do you like to do to assess your teams during the ASG break?

1:01
Eno Sarris: Normally I like to look at my standings and decide with categories I’m going to ignore and which categories I’m going to target.

1:01
Eno Sarris: But not this ASG. Jeebus. I’m lucky if I get out of this week alive.

Do you think that pitcher batting could be an unexplored way to squeeze out more WAR, in the NL anyway? Someone’s comment on the Madison Bumgarner article made me think that it seems quite possible to squeeze out some worthwhile value there and he mentioned the Giants could be doing that.

1:05
Eno Sarris: I don’t know HOW you do it though. Extra BP for the pitchers? Doesn’t that put them at added injury risk? I think they just got lucky with Bumgarner being a decent hitter.

Durability concerns aside, what do we think of Carlos Martinez? Own him cheaply in an NL keeper, but where have the + pitches gone?

He suggested it because they also signed Hudson, who is a fairly good hitting pitcher, and it seems like Lincecum is also improving as a hitter. I figure the best time for pitcher batting practice would be the offseason or ST, right? It seems like something that could be good if you could crack how to do it, anyway.

Donaldson’s hard-hit percentage may be the same as last year, but his LD% is down 8 points (20.6 -> 12.8)

Seems like a lot of conflicting metrics on A.Simmons. NL keeper where I can trade for him very cheaply for one year — thoughts?

I had a strange dream the other night where I was at an Iowa Cubs game and Lucas Duda was playing the OF. I proceded to make fun of his defense only to find that his mom and sister were sitting in front of me. They were angry at first but then we made up. What does this mean?

Wouldn’t vs league stats be kind of empty, given you don’t have separation based on what park they were, and (I assume) most of the boost in offense in the AL comes from the addition of the DH?

1:13
Eno Sarris: Yes and there is the factor that he could have faced the Yankees a ton of times. But 175 innings irons out some of those concerns.

Piggybacking on the 3B answer, what 3Bs do you see are buy lows? Figured Donaldson with his crappy June was a buy low.

Are we going to see any more of Cashner this year? If so, are his innings going to be limited?

I’ve noticed something I think is relevant. Strasurg’s CH is only 6 mph slower, but it moves 6 inches lower.

Is the real Buster Posey the MVP we saw in 2012, or the still valuable, but streaky hitter of the last calendar year? Or maybe somewhere in between?

1:20

I want to see Dellin Betances hit Altuve and Altuve charge the mound.

1:20
Eno Sarris: You never want to see a guy get hit but that… that I might want to see.

1:21
Comment From Guest
How do you pitch it so that it doesn’t lose much velocity but drops way more? Grip the bottom of the ball somehow?

1:21
Eno Sarris: More fingers. And you need to pull down on the ball, that’s how you get downward drop. Think slider and curve and that downward yank.

Do you think the day will come when pitcher injuries can be better predicted?

1:23
Eno Sarris: I think we might be able to curb them a bit, with better warm up and warm down and rest routines. Predicting/projection would have to get too much into the body’s mechanics, and every body is a beautiful snowflake. so, it’ll always be a little tough at least.

I feel we haven’t talked enough about how the Cubs have an RP named Schlitter. It gets me every time. Also, we don’t think about it because we’re used to him, but Madison Bumgarner has an amazing name, that turns into a completely different but equally amazing nickname.

I run the Mariners. I feel reasonably certain that I’m going to face the Angels in a one-game playoff. Is there any point in trying to make deadline moves to optimize for that Destiny Game?

There used to be 2 SS names Alex Gonzalez. Is there still one around? They both went to the post season faced eachother in 03 (marlins Cubs)

The following are possible explanations how someone can have their best offensive year at 35: ___ ___ ___

1:26
Eno Sarris: Other than the unsavory ones, I do think there’s a chance a guy could sell out for power and give up the strikeouts and it’s a good change for them. ON the pitching side, a new pitch can work wonders.

Dont you think that the whole 1 game playoff thing is kinda stupid? I mean, this is a team sportwhere they play 162 games and use 20+ pitchers… Then your season can be decided by 1 pitcher (I mean if the Dodgers meet the Pirates and Kershaw on the mound, it doesnt seem fair to base a whole seasone on that)

Does NY let Robertson go at the end of the year or even trade him now and let Betances close? Same can be said of KC with Holland and Davis

If you could have a rotation of any 5 current players, who would it consist of?

1:31
Eno Sarris: Man I wouldve said Wacha like a month ago. And three days ago, Julio Urias. But I think there’s something about Bumgarner that’s super repeatable. Kershaw’s gotta be in there for sheer excellence. Felix is somehow still doing it even though he’s thrown so many innings. Love it.

I have a glut of 2b: Walker [keeper], Rendon [currently moved to 3b for Arenado, mookie [speculative add] and La Stella [injury back up add]. All have interesting potential but obviously I won’t be protecting 4 2Bs. Who do you pick?
