Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 7/21/16

1:51
Eno Sarris: One of my favorites from Pitchfork Fest last week… I’ll pepper the chat with my best of. These guys kinda combine motown and garage, which is cool. See you soon.

12:01
Northsider: How does Commish Sarris punish the Cardinals?

12:02
Eno Sarris: Probably draft picks and international money because that’s all that’s really in the commissioner’s purview against teams, right? And some money money I guess.

12:03
Thwerve: Tyler Skaggs or Jose De Leon?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Skaggs? How many innings does De Leon have? What if he comes up in the pen?

12:03
Bork: I can’t of been the only one that thought of something else when I read a headline about Juiced Balls.

12:04
Eno Sarris: Well if you juiced then your balls aren’t so that could be a clue it’s about something else.

12:04
Greg: How concerned are you about Arrieta?

12:04
Eno Sarris: After reflection, I’d actually move him up, and Cueto, past Quintana, so I have him top 12 and I’m not really that concerned.

12:04
Jefferson Starship : Will Adalberto Mejia get a chance soon? Watching Matt Cain makes my eyes rain

12:04
Eno Sarris: Apparently he’s learned some touch on his change, can throw for swinging strikes and called strikes, and that’s compelling. The Cain thing is so sad really.

12:04
Sanjay: Best pickup ahead of the trading deadline: Dahl? Good player playing in Coors with Blackmon/CarGo leaving. Thoughts?

12:05
Eno Sarris: It’s so obvious it won’t happen. But it’s better than betting on most other prospects.

12:05
Bork: Could the flu really derail the Orioles season? This is getting ridiculous.

12:05
Eno Sarris: Yeesh and I didn’t even shake their hands at the …. WAIT DOES TRUMBO HAVE THE FLU???

12:06
Jimmy: What kind of numbers would Moncada put up right now in the bigs…full season.

12:07
Eno Sarris: You want him to calm those Ks before bringing him up, because if you bring him up now, he walks 8%, strikes out 30%, hits .250/.300 and you have to hope the power is real to get him past .400 slugging. Still…. that could be useful on the infield.

12:08
Dumpster Fiers: You have Price ranked #11 in the latest rankings. Last start wasn’t pretty, but can we expect ace like numbers moving forward?

12:08
Eno Sarris: He’s 3.25 with a K per inning and fewer than two walks since second start in May, I think he can do that.

12:09
Bork: Hello, friend!

12:09
Otis Redding: Eno Fino Bobino! Eno’s BACK! LUDES ON LUDES ON LUDES, MIXED WITH BREWS ON BREWS ON BREWS!

12:09
Friend: Hello, Bork!

12:09
Maxamuz: Lucas Duda better pick up his pace if he wants to hit 50 hrs this year.

12:09
Eno Sarris: Off to a running start.

12:09
Marichal: A Ottovino, Mau Cabrera, or W Smith?

12:10
Eno Sarris: That order. I just doubt that people will give up hauls for relievers not on the Yankees this year. I like Mo but he may only take a few as a fill in.

12:10
Otis Redding: In all seriousness, can the blue jays find a 6th starter at the deadline to help delay sanchez’s innings, or are they going to acquire another bat and smash their way to drew hutchison winning games?

12:11
Eno Sarris: I think they keep it mellow and pick up a cheap reliever.

12:11
Justin: What is the biggest difference between your position at fangraphs and a position working in baseball analytics department of a MLB team?

12:11
Eno Sarris: I have to write? Also, I’m not really that great at analytics so.

12:12
Joe: Has Mazara’s slow June and July changed your outlook on him?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Nope, still madly in love.

12:12
ENOberyn Martell: It’s really hard these days to play the matchups with Pineda….

12:12
Eno Sarris: Yes. Yes it is.

12:12
FGM: Just as I’m ready to move on from Stroman he pitches like he did yesterday. Are we going to see more of this? I can get Price ROS for 4 years of Stroman in a dynasty league.

12:13
Eno Sarris: He’s changed things in the stretch, changed his pitching mix, I think I see other mechanical changes. Interesting dude. Depends on how likely you are to win.

12:13
Ryan: When you’re interviewing an athlete, are you ever in awe of their combination of good looks and physical prowess? Do you ever have to restrain yourself from booping their nose?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Kris Bryant and Kevin Kiermaier’s eyes. KK also told me he can see the signs between the catchers legs which was very impressive. Carlos Correa’s demeanor is amazing. Dude is smart, calm, cool, collected, and mature beyond his years, even as you can sense a strong desire to be the best in the game. Brett Lawrie has a 24-pack.

12:14
Wilson Ramos: How many articles will show a table where I am in the top ten of something before I actually get an article written abo me?

12:15
Eno Sarris: Wait, nobody has written about Wilson Ramos? That can’t be. The Lasik has been amazing. I think Petriello wrote about him.

12:15
Neal Huntington: Im really not sure how the Pirates manage to move anyone to create room for a rotation upgrade. Any idea on who they ship out, what their return will be, and who they try to bring in? I’d like to see Cashner personally.

12:15
Eno Sarris: I don’t think they buy. I think they promote from within.

12:15
Oz: Could Dipoto get more than a bag of balls for Lind? How about Lee? Something’s gotta give with Vogelbach around now, right?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Yeah that’s going to happen soon. I bet he keeps Lee to platoon with Vogelbach and shops Lind. It won’t be a great return, but it might be something.

12:16
Chris: What are your expectations for Domingo Santana after he returns from his injury? Still stash worthy in deeper/dynasty leagues?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Yeah if you keep more than 15 in a 12+ league, I’d consider him. He’s a great stash for teams that are out of it. He’s really improved his discipline, and hits the ball really hard, all he has to do is get healthy and get some loft. Could easily Marcell Ozuna.

12:17
Eno Sarris: I liked Jorge Soler and Marcell Ozuna for the same reasons I like Domingo Santana, so it’s not like this is a lock. But he’s interesting and cheap.

12:17
The Man With The Plan: Andrew Benintendi?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:17
Old Roman Dudes: Can confirm Pliny at Monument! Also know about 2 other stores in the East Bay that carry the old dude, delivery times and day. I hit those stores 4 hours after their delivery last week and they were already sold out. I didn’t make that same mistake this week. I’ll be philosophising come Friday night!

12:18
Eno Sarris: Someone stopped me at the farmer’s market once because my child had a Tiny Pliny shirt from Russian River. “Well actually it’s pronounced plinny,” she said. “Okay,” I said.

12:18
CJ: Death by Coconut is my new favorite beer and its not close, I love the chocolate, its like chocolate water lol. Can you give me some more suggestions to try that are similar since I have to wait until release for more. Thanks

12:19
Eno Sarris: You and Ceetar! How about Kona Koko Brown? You might see that around.

12:19
2-D: ENO, thank Jobu for your twitter, gameday classic isn’t dead! Yet…

12:19
Eno Sarris: slowly going away

12:19
Justin: What should the Dodgers be trying to do at the deadline, other than “hope key players perform better” and “fire the doctor who cleared Kershaw to return early”?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Perhaps engage the Rays and see what they want for a pitcher?

12:20
Maxamuz: If I told you someone you work with looks like McLovin, who would you say it is?

12:21
Eno Sarris: probably rhymes with Maul Corer.

12:21
Section 118: Eno! How did Ryon Healy look since his callup?

12:22
Eno Sarris: I really like that he’s hitting doubles to oppo center and pulled his homer to pull center. Hits the ball hard. Want to see him take some pitches, but have even seen that at some point.

12:22
Josh: Theo and Jed talked about only bringing in an external piece if it is a clear upgrade (so as not to ruffle feathers)… is Mike Montgomery a clear upgrade?

12:22
Eno Sarris: yes, but he’s not taking the closer’s role, so it probably doesn’t ruffle many feathers other than T Wood’s.

12:22
Louisville Slugger: Hello friendo! Should I worry about Drew Pomeranz?

12:24
Eno Sarris: New park certainly won’t help his home run rate. He’s a little predictable. 4s away, 2s in, cutter in, curve away. Fastball hittable. Let’s see another start in Fenway.

12:24
Shawn: Is Tyler Naquin for real? Maybe not THIS Tyler Naquin, but a better version than what he was as a prospect?

12:24
Eno Sarris: August’s piece was very compelling. I see a change in approach. Regression coming, but maybe this power is more real than I first thought.

12:24
Gest: Just when I think I’m out, they pull me back in!!! I was done with Eovaldi, now he’s rumored to be interesting to the Pirates – if that were to happen could you talk me out of spot starting him??

12:25
Eno Sarris: I’d like to see what this new approach would do in the NL, yes.

12:25
The Cincinnati Kid: Better to let AJ Reed work through these struggles at MLB or send down to AAA until he really figures it out?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Bet he goes down when Gurriel is ready, and Valbuena plays some first.

12:25
dbacksfan: I’m kind of new to baseball. But I’d really like to learn more about some specific pitchers and their tendencies. When I’m watching a pitcher for the first time, what should I look for?

12:27
Eno Sarris: Look for what they throw in two-strike counts, that’s their best pitch. Look for what they throw in two-ball, no strike counts. That’s a pitch that they command well, and especially interesting if it’s not a fastball.

12:27
Shawn: Saw your haul of NEBCO beers – Coriolis better than G-Bot IMO. Canned for 1st time last week – a true Nelson bomb

12:28
Eno Sarris: Overall, I was impressed with my first dabble with New England Beer Co! Sea Hag was fresh and bright and G-Bot was Huge.

12:28
Yoan Moncada: What do you make of reports that the Red Sox are planning on keeping me at 2B through the remainder of the 2016 minor league season? Smart move so that I can focus on reducing my strikeouts and hitting LHP? Strange move because it seems to delay the timetable for my call-up to Boston? or Trade-deadline posturing to keep my value as high as possible in an attempt to acquire Chris Sale/Jose Fernandez? I don’t know what to think. Help me, Eno!

12:29
Eno Sarris: Keep a guy at the place where he has the most value until right before you need/want him up. Think of Mookie. He didn’t play a ton of OF until they needed him up.

12:30
David Wiers: Who was your favorite person to see in Chicago, and why was it me?

12:31
Eno Sarris: Man it was a fun trip. And it was great to see you! My favorite conversations are with the STATS/BIS pitch tracking nerds.

12:32
keith: Heading to Pittsburgh for a Pirates game in a couple weeks. Any breweries you recommend in the area? Thanks Eno

12:32
Eno Sarris: Check out www.beergraphs.com/book there’s a great chapter full of amazing recommendations!

12:32
Eno Sarris: and if you use bg-weloveyou, you get a buck off!

12:32
LarryA: Will the beer industry over run out of corny “hop” puns to name their beers?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Only when they’re done with the gross sex imagery on the labels.

12:33
Pepe: Rangers look to be falling fast, what can they do to make sure they keep their AL West lead?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Pitching?

12:33
Bruce: Youre in the clubhouse- something Ive always wanted to know, How do most players do meals on gamedays? Like late lunch, snack or shake pregame, big post-game meal?

12:35
Eno Sarris: I see a ton of them eating when I’m in there around 3:30-4, which I think makes good sense. That means they’ve digested most of it but aren’t hungry.

12:35
Reginald Denton III: How worried are you about Kershaw now?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Obviously, more. But if you parse what Roberts said, he just said surgery is more likely, not necessarily probable. Pitchers, man.

12:36
Colin: Did you see Car seat headrest on Friday at p4k? They’re so good!

12:36
Eno Sarris: Yes! I liked them very much!

12:37
The Cincinnati Kid: The Pirates are 3 games out of the WC currently, doesn’t trading Cutch for a haul now make too much sense?

12:38
Eno Sarris: I think they’re trying to build a winning culture, a string of winning, since that’s the only thing that draws people to the park reliably. I say they don’t trade him, they don’t sell or buy that hard, they find a little piece that doesn’t cost that much.

12:38
Shawn: Favorite (mostly) single hop beers that feature following hops: Galaxy? Nelson? Citra? Mosaic?

12:39
Eno Sarris: used to be Nelson, then it was Mosaic, but Citra is amazing. Booming Rollers from Modern Times is so so so good. It made my perfect tap list http://www.beergraphs.com/bb/1007-the-perfect-possible-tap-list/

12:39
Roger Salkeld: Is Dan Vogelbach better than a league average DH in your opinion? There appears to be some divisiveness about how good the hit tool will be.

12:40
Eno Sarris: To me, my question is more about his power. Is it league average or plus? If it’s plus, he’s better than league average at DH.

12:40
Robert: The first of my friends becomes a father today. Should I bring over a gift? Not sure what the protocol for this is…

12:40
Eno Sarris: The boring thing is a cigar but y’all don’t smoke cigars, bring a nice bomber of something. He’l be drunk off one since he’ll be so tired.

12:41
Luder: Baseball, beer and cucumbers >> tomatoes. My patronus takes the shape of Eno.

12:41
Jeb: Meadows is a budding Superstar

12:41
Eno Sarris: (butting)

12:41
Eno Sarris: Had to take part in that interlude to complete it y’all.

12:41
Chopper Dave: Does Rich hill’s blister effect what the A’s can get for him? If so, does it make a Sonny Gray trade any more probable?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Yes, because he just can’t stay on the field. They need him to pitch. He may not command much anyway since he’s a rental.

12:42
J.T. Realmuto : How do you like me? Top 15 or Top 10 catcher going forward in dynasty/keeper format?

12:43
Eno Sarris: This BA ain’t real but he does remind me a bit (statistically) of a young Russ Martin minus the OBP. I’d hold.

12:43
Alex: Do you think the Angels trade Shoemaker? They’d have trouble filling a rotation, but they need to rebuild around Trout and there’s not much of value

12:43
Eno Sarris: I just don’t think they sell even though they should.

12:44
NYTT: I still look back at your Teheran piece to remind myself that he’s not going to regress a ridiculous amount and is a true #2. Still a great read. If Folty continues his ascent into really good starting pitcher, would the Braves have a good 1-2 punch going forward? Feels like if that happens then any assortment of the 6 or so ML ready pitchers that they have can fill in 3-5, including Wisler who’s going through struggles right now.

12:44
Eno Sarris: I think this is probably the thinking that will keep Teheran in Atlanta. They moving into a new park, they want to be less than atrocious by the time the new park shine comes off. To keep people coming.

12:44
Stuafoo: What would you do if you were on a desert island and the only thing you had available was a cloning machine that can only make clones of yourself, memories and all? And because I know you’re asking, yes, you can make as many clones as you’d like.

12:45
Eno Sarris: I suppose I’d make something like 50 clones and play an endless game of baseball.

12:45
Eno Sarris: Maybe an extra 5-10 to brew beer and make sandwiches.

12:45
PS: If Eno was the entire Yankees front office, what would your plan be besides “Sell”? Chapman, beltran Miller? More?

12:46
Eno Sarris: It’s been forever since they’ve sold. I might not bother with a little trade, I’d really push for bundling Beltran with a reliever for something that would make a Back Page splash.

12:46
Joe: Curious as to why Quintana is ranked as high as he is. Above some guys like Lester & Carrasco.

12:47
Eno Sarris: His pop-up rate is very nice, so his KPU-BB is top 15. His command is probably top five. I don’t see that much luck in his game, while Carrasco’s not quite as good as he was before. Velo and Ks and swSTR down, and he’s never had good command.

12:48
Erik: If baseball was set up so that it made sense for Moncada and similar prospects to be in the majors today and do their development there rather than in the minors (so no worries about service time, etc.) would it be more fun to watch? Would players develop as well or better?

12:48
Eno Sarris: I’m not sure they’d develop worse! There are better coaches in the major leagues! The only thing is that confidence would be affected. Confidence matters, and if you have a bad start against MLB competition, it might stunt your growth.

12:49
Roger Salkeld: How do you like the Block 15 Sticky Hands? And what is the best “east coast juicy” IPA out there?

12:49
Eno Sarris: Haven’t had it. Treehouse King Julius reigns.

12:49
Jason Derulo: Jon Heyman just reported that the White Sox could be sellers. Realistically, who would they sell off?

12:49
Eno Sarris: Robertson seems obvious.

12:50
The Cincinnati Kid: Don’t trust people that don’t like pizza or ice cream

12:50
Eno Sarris: Oh god but what about me, where those things ravage me internally and I have to take about five pills and sleep poorly every time I eat one or the other?

12:50
Zorn: Playing matchups is hard with anyone. Just throw em’ all.

12:51
Eno Sarris: I’ll keep an eye on parks. Lineups change so much.

12:51
I love Bork: Eno chat’s can’t officially begin until Bork says hello

12:51
Eno Sarris: Borkwife usually makes an appearance too.

12:51
Erik: Hellickson pitched a great start last night against the team rumored to be most interested in him (the Marlins). Do you think he goes there? And what sort of a return is he worth?

12:51
Eno Sarris: Yes. No idea.

12:51
Biscuit: Dudes who get on a bus all hot and stanky are really not very considerate towards others.

12:51
Matt: Isn’t the “flu like symptoms” just another way of saying they’re hung over?

12:52
Bork: I see you didn’t mention Joey Votto. But we all know if Votto asked you to leave your life and run away with him you’d do it in an instant.

12:52
Von Schloss: Who would you rather have in a 16 team dynasty, Max Kepler or Corey Dickerson?

12:53
Eno Sarris: I’m going to take the leap at Kepler. Maybe the power is memorex, but he’ll walk a bunch and steal more bases.

12:53
Covelli: Who to drop Bud Norris, Paxton, or Cody Reed. I’m intrigued by Reed’s last start event though it was vs. ATL. Maybe I just drop Danny Valencia and keep all 3 on a wait and see basis?

12:53
Eno Sarris: Valencia losing time, now a vLHP 1b/DH, and not getting much trade interest.

12:53
Von Schloss: How much has poor defense had to do with the Rays pitching struggles?

12:54
Eno Sarris: I see inflated home rates, so whatever’s making the ball fly (cough cough the ball cough) is really hurting the Rays staff a ton.

12:54
Pete: Do you think rich hill’s blister makes it more likely for sonny gray too get dealt?

12:54
Eno Sarris: I don’t think it works like this. I think that all that matters to Beane is the offer he gets for Gray, and I think people are too prone to recency bias to offer up a great package for Gray right now.

12:55
Carlos: Would you drop any of Duffy, Bauer, or Eickhoff for Mengden in a 12-team dynasty? How about for Skaggs?

12:55
Eno Sarris: Nope.

12:55
Mikey: Love Royal Headache. Great pointer. Thx, Eno!

12:55
Eno Sarris: oh Twin Peaks was great too

12:55
Biscuit: Should I just give in to my emotions and add Manaea and Folty for the stretch run?

12:56
Eno Sarris: I’m seeing a bit more from Folty. Manaea still needs a cutter.

12:56
Steve: Can Eduardo Rodriguez be ok long term still?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Getting a James Paxton vibe. Gonna take some tweaks and some time.

12:57
Dock Ellis: If doing a beer sesh but only had five beers, one each of excellent, great, good, macro brew, and a schlitz, in which order would you drink them?

12:57
Eno Sarris: That order. Hope you sloshed by the end.

12:57
Davy: I was wondering if you had an opinion about something John Smoltz said on MLB TV the other day. He mentioned that when you have great stuff you don’t have as much of a need for great command. Then he said that because there are so many pitchers right now with electric stuff, command is at a low league-wide. Thoughts?

12:57
Eno Sarris: I agree but I haven’t been able to demonstrate it. Heart percentage is steady, at least.

12:58
Homeless Wanderer: Who do you like tomorrow between McCarthy (STL), Shoemaker (HOU) and McCullers (ANA)?

12:58
Eno Sarris: McCarthy.

12:58
Joe, Esq.: Sometimes you are just in the mood for a lude, don’t need no attitude. Tried and true, freshly brewed lude. Uh oh, a client just got sued, so that’s the end of this lude.

12:58
Kobe: Just had Lunch from Maine brewing and was maybe a little too excited about it. It was good don’t get me wrong but I wasn’t wowed. I blame the hype.

12:59
Holy Holy Mountain is good: Eno…thanks for the rec a few weeks back to check out Holy Mountain Brewery. Their beers were definitely good and I think the guy that was helping us may be one of the founders. I mentioned that I got the rec on a chat from a baseball writer who knows his beers. He got your name and said he’d be checking you out. btw: He’s originally a NorCal guy which was kind of cool. (I live in the south bay.) Thanks again!

12:59
Eno Sarris: Beer interlude.

12:59
Lucio: Does someone want to trade for Coco Crisp>

12:59
Eno Sarris: I always think he’s done and then he’s not. Have a feeling teams would only want to claim him, or give cash or something small.

12:59
greg: Would the Reds be wise to trade Desclafani or should he be part of their future?

1:00
Eno Sarris: They gotta start keeping things that are working at at some point.

1:00
Eric: Baseball America recently ranked Turner higher than Swanson and Bregman. Can you please help me explain what I’m missing on Turner?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Speed tool is a hell of a drug.

1:00
Eric: What young INF prospect do you feel most confident will “break out” or become the most valuable fantasy contributor: Russell, Turner or Swanson?

1:01
Eno Sarris: I’m still all in on Russell. Hope it’s not the eyes.

1:01
Art Vandelay: I’ve been to a couple Rivercats games this year, and man does the 20 second pitch clock make the games fly. How long until that makes the jump to the majors? Seems like it should be a no-brainer.

1:01
Eno Sarris: If that was the feeling of most of the people in the stadium, I bet it’s coming real soon. We already have clocks for so many other things.

1:01
Jonny boy: I’ve read the articles but still can’t really figure it out. What did Paxton do to see such a massive MPH increase?

1:02
Eno Sarris: Changed his arm slot. More natural now.

1:02
E: Manfred said they are looking at limiting the number of relievers used per game. Yay or nay? What do you think the number would be and what kind of exceptions would there be?

1:03
Eno Sarris: I’d rather they just changed the September rules. I mean, is there a big difference across baseball? Teams have either 12 or 13 pitchers. If you had to declare five or six relievers, you’d just sit the guy that wasn’t available anyway, due to usage. What a silly idea.

1:04
Dave Kerwin: Call back to your article re: the slider moving differently based on where it’s thrown… Is this the “back-up slider”? Every hear pitchers talk of using this as a distinct pitch?

1:05
Eno Sarris: I think the backup slider is a hanging slider that works just because they didn’t expect it, but I’ve been wrong about old timey stuff before. The righty on righty inside breaking ball is usually called a front door breaking ball because it looks like a ball and drops into the zone.

1:05
BlueJayGord: Big fan of your work Eno, I know you and Paul just talked about him on the podcast but what should I be trying to get for Aaron Sanchez right now? Is Lackey a reasonable ask? Buy low on McCutchen? Any thoughts?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Sanchez+waiver is probably > Lackey. But I’d take Cutch for sure.

1:06
Dan: I’m in San Diego for a few days, help me Brewbi Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope (Nerd stuff, bc ComicCon). Where/what brews should I quest to find?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Modern Times tasting room in North Park plus Hamilton’s. Monkey Paw closer to downtown. Neighborhood walking distance from convention center, great food, better list.

1:06
Mikey: You’re familiar with so-called economic leading indicators, I’m sure. So what would you say are the baseball player performance leading indicators for pitching & hitting?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Pitching: velocity, pitching mix change, movement change, location on rubber.

1:07
Eno Sarris: Hitting: exit velocity, launch angle (GB/FB), fastball% and zone%.

1:08
Yasiel Puig: Where am I playing on August 2?

1:08
Eno Sarris: LA.

1:08
PL: Eno, I have Celiac disease and can’t do the whole gluten thing so (regular) beer is a no-go. Do you know of any gluten free beers that aren’t really all that bad?

1:08
Eno Sarris: Try a dry cider!

1:08
Mork: Nanoo nanoo, friend!

1:08
Yaya: Sex only bothers people who don’t get any

1:08
Nathan: Bryce Harper has been pulling off the ball for 2 months. Seems like he would have figured it out by now.

1:09
Scott: SCHIMPF! ALL HAIL THE 5’9” TITAN OF HOMERDOM. HIS JULY ISO IS .565. WE ARE ALL WITNESSES!

1:09
Kizzykid: What type of site is this?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Well, that was maybe one of the most perfect interludes of all time.

1:09
Nate: Would you give up Mejia for Will Smith, if you’re the Giants?

1:10
Eno Sarris: I actually think they should get a righty, since I like Osich, but I think Mejia for an RP is probably on the table.

1:10
Dusty’s Toothpick: What do you make of Strawdog’s confession of sex in the club house during games and have you heard about the Kevin Elster stories with another player’s wife in the club house???

1:10
Eno Sarris: The good old days, or something.

1:11
Steve: Eno! What’s the best way to get you some delicious beer from Side Project?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Oh. I want. My full name at gmail.

1:11
Jacks: Can we trust wainwright going forward? Pitching like an ace

1:12
Eno Sarris: I only gave him a 44 rank, but he could maybe be higher.

1:13
Jojo the Monkey: I’ve been reading some of your stuff about the Arsenal Score stat. You’ve said that generally swinging strike rate correlates about twice as strongly with ERA, SIERA, xFIP as does groundball rate, but that it varies some according to pitch. Have you published the pitch-specific correlations, anywhere? Thanks.

1:15
Eno Sarris: No! But here they are. Hold up.

1:16
Eno Sarris:

1:16
Scott: Brief Profile of an Obscure Player: John Niggeling.

1:16
Austin Meadow’s Ass: Don’t you, dun nun nun, forget about me. I said don’t don’t don’t you, forget about me

1:16
Eric: Johnny Dickshot, Wonderful Teriffic Monds, Dick Pole, Shooty Babbit, Boof Bonser, and Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish… These were actual MLB players.

1:16
Eno Sarris: well done, people.

1:16
Scott: Brief Profile of an Obscure Player – John Niggeling: Debuted at 34, once one of FOUR knuckleballers on a single pitching staff, hanged himself in a hotel room. The end.

1:16
Eno Sarris: oh had to get that in.

1:17
Reginald Denton III: I’m kind of new to luding…what should I look for?

1:17
Eno Sarris: Any old idea in your head, it looks like.

1:17
D-Nice: Robbie Ray or Foltynewicz ROS? Both have looked good since the break but Ray could be a game changer with the K rate

1:17
Eno Sarris: By K-BB, Ray is great. I like him. But I can’t move him up a ton because he still doesn’t have a third pitch.

1:18
tonyc: Are we looking at a totally lost season for Ben Revere, and given his age and all-speed-no-power profile, is he even worth holding in dynasty?

1:18
Eno Sarris: He’s a borderline starter in the majors, so yes.

1:19
Reginald Denton III: P4k festival, Eno? Tell us more! I want your life…

1:19
Eno Sarris: This dude can SING

1:20
Dexter: What’s a 5 year outlook on Kluber look like? He’s tj free and not much of an injury history. You paying up in dynasty?

1:20
Eno Sarris: He’s 30 and doesn’t have a great fastball. I bought in a dynasty where I just want to win, baby. But that’s not to say I want him in four years.

1:21
DG: I had an argument with a friend about pl-eye-nee versus plinny. She was adamant enough that I wonder if she was the one that stopped you.

1:21
Eno Sarris: It doesn’t matter if Pliny the Elder, the dude in Rome, was plinny. We’ve moved on. The beer world says Pliny rhymes with piney, and that makes too much sense since the beer has some pine.

1:22
Andrew: Has anyone ever written an article about the effects of Lasik on hitters? Ramos isn’t the first to have a season like this. Carlos Delgado’s OPS+ improved 22 points in 2008 after having Lasik in the offseason.

1:22
Eno Sarris: I think it failed to help Uggla but that doesn’t necessarily make you wrong haha.

1:22
Snarfle: How many people would have to start talking about the invasion of the lizard people in a serious way before you looked up what it was with some part of you thinking that it might be real?

1:22
Eno Sarris: A lot fewer than I want to admit now.

1:22
Borxa Stalking Dork: Thoughts on the Blind Pig drink?

1:23
Eno Sarris: The OG, the original gangster of west coast IPAs. still really good.

1:24
Pizza and Ice Cream Coalition: AND ALL THIS TIME WE HAVE TRUSTED YOU FOR FANTASY ADVICE!!!

1:24
Eno Sarris: I promise I love them. I just can’t have them.

1:24
Luder: Hold up, pizza and ice cream destroy your insides too? Maybe you’re just me with different hair.

1:24
Eno Sarris: we are not alone. I am here with you. Though you’re far away

1:24
2-D: What’s your trade deadline prediction, sizzle or fizzle?

1:25
Eno Sarris: Your fizzle.

1:25
Von Schloss: Thanks for bringing up the ball flying. I’ve been talking with friends saying the ball must be juiced. Look at all these pitchers suddenly having gopheritis!

1:25
Snarfle: So the ball-making gnomes have been changing it up? That’s why you gnever trust a gnome, even if you can’t help but find them adorable.

1:25
Eno Sarris: Well, the ball manufacturer changed plants last year, so it’s not a crazy idea.

1:25
Ol Sea Capn: You had Steven Wright really low on your rankings. Is this because he has no track record, because KBers are hard to project, some of both, or neither?

1:26
Eno Sarris: I’d like to see more 80+ mph KN from him before I believe he can be Dickey.

1:26
Bartleby: Gattis is cold, not playing every day. Him or T. Joseph at C in CBS?

1:26
Eno Sarris: You know what, TJ is about the same guy anyway. Grip, rip, and he plays more often.

1:26
Rob Manfred: You lack believability

1:27
Eno Sarris: I deserve this.

1:27
A-a-ron: I know IPAs and Sours are the only cool beers, but does anyone domestic make decent German style beers? Can’t stand an American Hefeweizen and I feel like that’s the only non-import I see 🙁

1:28
Eno Sarris: There’s usually a good one in your local market. KC has Bier Station, here we have Brotzeit Lokal. And there’s Koestritzer Schwarzbier, Pinkus UrPils and Weihenstephaner in your local beer market usually.

1:28
Borxa Stalking Dork: Do you ever drink while you do these chats?

1:29
Eno Sarris: They start at 9am Thursday for me, so no.

1:29
Pessimistic White Sox Fan: How often do you look at box scores?

1:29
Eno Sarris: Almost every night.

1:29
Snarfle: Only Greg (is that his name) from Finance is at his desk–rest of the team is in meetings I guess, but he’s sneaky good. Like I should be able to sneak a bunt by him and get that coffee I made, but he just seems spry, you know? Wait, I…don’t need to do that. I can just get the coffee. Still, there’s a clear opportunity for a bunt with the entire Finance Team on the other side of the office.

1:29
Bernabé Williams Figueroa Jr. : Are there any players that you really feel like should get into the hof, but you know have no chance (excluding ped guys)?

1:29
Eno Sarris: Nervous about Adrian Beltre.

1:30
HUNGRY: It was like 105 degrees at this cookout I was at and I had 4 bud light limes. I don’t regret my decision.

1:30
Eno Sarris: In the immortal words of Digable Planets, “do what you feel.”

1:30
War2d2: Has Javy Baez done enough to bring you around? Easily the most entertaining player on the Cubs to watch. He has the tools to dream on, and beyond that he’s just got so much swag. I’m not convinced he isn’t the best fielder on the team at all 4 infield positions.

1:31
Eno Sarris: Yeah I’ve been wrong on him. Contact rate still makes me nervous, but a young infielder righty Josh Hamilton seems possible. And that’s pretty awesome actually.

1:31
Paulie: What do you think of Eickhoff’s performance this season?

1:31
Eno Sarris: He’s been a 3.4/8k9/1.2 whip guy since he started throwing the slider again. That’s who I think he is.

1:32
Eno Sarris: Also suppressing exit velo really well.

1:32
JKD: On Turner: dude hit a triple into the LEFT field corner last night where he would’ve been safe standing, and then stole home. So yes, speed tool is a helluva drug. Kid is CRAZY fast.

1:32
Pete: Why is everybody so sure the Jays will move Sanchez to the pen?

1:32
Eno Sarris: They said they would.

1:32
Otis Redding: BREAKING NEWS: JUSTIN TURNER ALREADY HAS TWO BOMBS OFF STRASBURG. STRASBURG ON THE BLOCK FOR THE DEADLINE.

1:32
dave in slc: odds melancon is dealt and watson becomes closer?

1:33
Eno Sarris: I don’t think they are good. For Pirates reasons stated above.

1:33
Arbok: You playing Pokemon Go?

1:33
Guest: no

1:33
Ted Turner: RIP Turner Field

1:33
Eno Sarris: When I visit the next Atlanta field, I will have been to three parks in one city and that will make me feel old.

1:34
don tony: whats the best way to get you some delicious beer from my “brewed in toilet” line?

1:34
Eno Sarris: Flush it.

1:34
Shin soo-Choo Express: What’s up with Gurriel? I haven’t heard a word about him since he signed? Where is he, and when can I plug him in to my Lineup, or will my DL’ed Carpenter be back before hes ready anyway?

1:34
Eno Sarris: They said it would take him about three weeks to come up.

1:34
Shawn: Are all ABVs the same? Feel like sometimes I’ll drink a DIPA and be fine and then other times I’ll drink a different, but same ABV DIPA and be floored. Eating pretty much same too

1:35
Eno Sarris: Yeah it’s about relativity/context. The malt and other tastes can hide the alcohol. Sometimes well, sometimes poorly.

1:35
Borkwife: What can I expect to get back in a trade for Bork?

1:35
Eno Sarris: Bag o balls.

1:36
Ken: A while back you mentioned that K-BB%, Sw-St% and F-St% were stats that you first turn to when evaluating pitchers. I’ve put together a spreadsheet to follow that stuff for waiver-level pitchers I might want to grab, and I’ve noticed that F-St% doesn’t really appear to correlate well w/ performance stats (ERA, FIP, SIERA, etc). Obviously getting ahead in the count is good, but what have you seen that makes it so important for your evaluation?

1:37
Eno Sarris: It’s ahead of BB%, I use it more to see if a guy is out of whack with past F-strikes, to consider if that’s something he can easily change.

1:37
Stephen: When folks ask for Portland beer recs, you generally send them to Cascade for sours or to Bend for Crux and Boneyard. This is fine advice, but I would add Breakside (Portland) and Fort George (Astoria) to this list. Both difficult to find outside of the PNW.

1:38
Eno Sarris: yes, and they amazing. Breakside has one IPA that I drink in Hawaii all the time, strangely.

1:38
2-D: If you were in a band what would be your role?

1:38
Eno Sarris: Cowbell.

1:38
Art Vandelay: Schedule for Outside Lands just dropped. It’s too hard to choose between Beach House and LCD (J. Cole doesn’t factor in).

1:39
Eno Sarris: I found Beach House to be incredibly boring before and during their live set at Pitchfork.

1:39
mike sixel: someone did a study on lasik……at that time (I think like 3 years ago) there was no correlation to increased success……it might be the explanation for Ramos, but it’s not a cure all (though it has been GREAT for my life, highly recommend)

1:39
Toasty: I remember Corey Hart getting goggles that he proceeded to never wear in Milwaukee

1:39
Eno Sarris: SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT

1:40
Toasty: Hello yes I’m here to shill for Live Oak

1:40
Eno Sarris: Liked their Hefe and I think I had a gose or something from them too.

1:40
Bork: Do you ever have pants on while you do these chats?

1:40
Eno Sarris: 50/50 proposition.

1:40
FireDrayton: For A-a-ron: Live Oak in Austin makes its living off the classic German styles, and they’re both delicious and super drinkable. Also easy to find all over Texas (cans and draft). Worth seeking out. Live Oak Hef is legendary.

1:40
Bork: I’m in finance and the only one on my team in the office…I doubt you’re here but I’m moving ever so closely inwards to shift against any bunt. I’m onto you Snarfle.

1:40
Matt: Have you heard of Gertrude Betarude? She’s a rude prelude to a bad mood and hates dudes.

1:41
brockb03: Heading to SF in September. Which breweries should I check out?

1:41
Eno Sarris: Check my book for more, but Cellarmaker is the best in SF proper.

1:41
Matt: What are the chances that the Yankees trade Miller to the country of Japan for the rights to sushi?

1:41
Matt: Watson as a closer? Computers don’t even have arms.

1:42
Nate: baggaborks

1:42
PB&Js: Which Austin catching prospect has a brighter future, Hedges or Barnes? Could they both be legit?

1:42
Eno Sarris: Going with Barnes because Hedges’ bat doesn’t impress me.

1:42
Marcus Banks: Michael Pineda is the worst picher in New York city.

1:42
Marcus Banks: We’ve now come full circle

1:43
hscer: Wouldn’t you get tired of dozens of you clones like Calvin did in that Calvin and Hobbes storyline?

1:43
Eno Sarris: Oh man I already hate me.

1:43
The other Kyle: Don’tcha hate when you get to an Eno chat late and you KNOW your question won’t be answered? By the way, Peraza stay up ROS and, if so, how will he do?

1:43
Eno Sarris: He should stay up, hit .260 and steal a bunch of bases, but the PT I dunno.

1:44
Matt: Have you ever stopped what you were doing, said the word “ointment”, then belly-laughed at how funny the word sounds?

1:44
Eno Sarris: I think it’s the ‘oi’ because… MOIST.

1:44
OddBall Herrera: “That Pokemon looks really lifelike” – – the last thoughts of a Pokemon player in the woods before he’s eaten by a bear

1:44
N.W.enO: I haven’t read up yet, but what are your thoughts on Hamels? Would you swap Cespedes for him. Lost Kershaw. Could use an arm. Have an outfield of Yelick, Holliday and Herrera without him.

1:44
Eno Sarris: I’d buy Hamels, but for less.

1:46
Eno Sarris: Oh hey, work calls. Interview with McCullers to write. Fantasy owners will find it v interesting, I think.

1:46
Eno Sarris: See y’all later!

To Art Vandelay – skip Beach House and see LCD.
