Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 7/23/15

11:45
Eno Sarris: this is how I feel today

11:45
Eno Sarris:

11:45
Eno Sarris: damn babies

12:01
Comment From Angelsin15
I saw the Angels linked to Yoenis Cespedes – what would he cost in terms of prospects?

12:02
Eno Sarris: I bet the Tigers, if they ‘rebuild,’ will want to do so around Miggie, meaning it would take someone really close or in bigs, like Tropeano and… Kubitza or Bedrosian? Doubt it would take Newcomb, Heaney or Baldoquin.

12:03
Comment From Dave Dombrowski
What is a realistic package I could expect to land from the Dodgers or Cubs for David Price?

12:04
Eno Sarris: I mean Samardzija got Russell, so is Seager crazy? And yet, the dodgers probably won’t do that. So maybe more of a quantity package with Holmes, Verdugo, Lee — whatever non Urias pitchers the Tigers like. They’re not afraid to pick exactly what they like despite any rankings.

12:05
Comment From Brandon
I’m tired of holding onto Rusney Castillo. Would you drop him for the upside of Michael Conforto? And how do you view both players going forward? Thanks.

12:05
Eno Sarris: He’s not showing a ton of power, so maybe Alex Gordon without the speed? Rusney’s upper-edge comp is more like Leonys Martin when Martin was okay?

12:06
Comment From Joe
Tired of getting no 3B production out of Sandoval and Tomas. I’m looking at Castellanos, Aramis, or Kang on the wire. What do you think?

12:07
Eno Sarris: The last couple of months for Tomas are pretty much what I expected to start: 4% walks, 25% strikeouts, league average ISO. I might take a shot on Kang over Tomas in a redraft, at least he might steal bases and we know a little less about what Kang would do with a regular job.

12:07
Comment From DaveDombrowski
Joakim Soria to the Nats for A.J. Cole – who hangs up first, me or Rizzo?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Cole’s been traded so much, doubt it’s Rizzo.

12:08
Comment From Brian
Any chance that Aaron Nola will have an innings cap this year?

12:10
Eno Sarris: He’s great. Really great, because he has average to above-average velocity, plus plus command, plus change, and decent curve. He pitched in college last year, so he actually had 170 innings. He won’t have a hard cap, but they may skip him a few times if they want to keep him to 180-200.

12:11

12:12
Eno Sarris: took a second but it finally got there

12:12
Comment From Greg
Anyone you really like who you think is going to have a late season breakout?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Soler

12:12
Comment From KB
Would Carlos Gomez be enough to acquire Gausman from Baltimore?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Yes I bet Milwaukee would want a bit more

12:13
Comment From Alan
Hey Eno, last week I said I was nervous about having Pineda and Liriano as a team locked into the playoffs and those two having their concerns this year. You mentioned flipping both to a fringe playoff team for their ace. Would Madison Bumgarner be enough to do that deal?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:13
Comment From #CONFORT
Solve for X: Noah Syndergaard + two seamer + Warthen Slider = X

12:13
Eno Sarris: A better deGrom because then they’d have the same slider and Syndergaard’s curve > deGroms curve, changes ready to battle.

12:13
Comment From Joe
If Kimbrel moved, is it Kelley or Benoit?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Benoit pitching the eighth more often, as far as I have seen.

12:14
Comment From carl
Is Chase Anderson a good bet to bounce back? He was killing me before hitting the DL.

12:14
Eno Sarris: I think a few more fourseamers would make his curve play up and get more whiffs. Still has excellent change.

12:14
Comment From Joe
Better speed play considering other categories and playing time as well: Dyson, Gose, or Saladino?

12:15
Eno Sarris: Short term Dyson, longer term Gose.

12:15
Comment From Eric
Hatched an idea: LAA and LAD reverse previous trade (w/ sweetener for LAA). Guerrero, Kendrick, Zach Lee for Andrew Heaney. LAA has 6 SP and sub-replacement options at 2B and 3B. Need to option Heaney or force a vet to the pen anyway. LAD gets cost-controlled SP3/4 to bolster rotation now+future. Solid at 2B with Olivera, Kike Hernandez.

12:15
Eno Sarris: This is pretty funny and even not crazy except that Guerrero’s contract is a poison pill, he becomes a free agent at year’s end if traded.

12:16
Comment From Joe
Best trade deadline save benefactor: Kelley, Putnam, Capps, Benoit, Will Smith, Hoover, or Vizcaino?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Jeffress?

12:16
Comment From merv throneberry
Hi Eno. What do you think Guyer’s upside is ROS and next year? Like the speed, can get him cheap as a 6th OF.

12:16
Eno Sarris: 29 year old righty… I think this is the best he can do.

12:17
Comment From Eric
You checked in on Odor lately? >180 wRC+ in 120 PA at AAA, then >180 wRC+ in 120 PA at MLB. 3rd in MLB in fWAR over last 30 days. His breakout is bigger than Correa’s an no one is talking about the kid anywhere!

12:17
Eno Sarris: We’ve talked on podcast, and we had an article about how he tightened up his zone. I worry about talking about him too much!

12:17
Comment From Dave
How would you rank these 4 starters ROS? Hughes, Smyly, J. Ross, Nola

12:18
Eno Sarris: Nola Smyly and then Ross per IP but Hughes on total value

12:18
Comment From leftymarlins
How good is Jose Fernandez? His Sabers say he is actually better than what he has been! What are your ROS predictions for him

12:18
Eno Sarris: Sexcellence.

12:18
Comment From RJ
I’m flush in 2Bs in two different leagues. All things being equal, who is the best long-term investment of Dozier, Russell, Wong, and Odor? Thanks Eno.

12:19
Eno Sarris: I think it’s Wong actually. Best combo of power, speed, plate discipline, and age.

12:19
Comment From Mike
Does AA hate hard fast balls? He already has Dickey and Buerhle, now he wants Fiers? Is too many slow guys a potential problem?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Just looking for the undervalued guys I guess.

12:20
Comment From rustydude
I’ve stuck with Longoria in my active lineup all year. I figure he’s still a pretty good hitter and will ride out any slumps. I also don’t believe in the hot hand. However, his hitting continues to deteriorate, i.e. less walks, middling power, etc. Would you sub Headley in for him?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Longoria has been better than Headley so far and has better projections, so no.

12:20
Comment From Larry
Ive just started getting into Beer trading and I already want to stop, but everytime I try to stop it pulls me back in…. arrrrgh!

12:20
Eno Sarris: It’s expensive and time-consuming and awesome.

12:20
Comment From Johnny5Alive
lucas duda = ike davis 2.0, so whos the next guy everyone over here is going to fall in love with to play first base for the mets

12:21
Eno Sarris: Oh man I’m watching a lot of Ike Davis right now and if you mean Lucas Duda = 2*Ike Davis, then sure.

12:21
Comment From Shawn
Know anything about Tree House Brewing? Haven’t heard much about them (they about 45 mins from me), but saw somewhere awarded them best brewery in MA, which is no small achievment IMO

12:21
Eno Sarris: one of the most solid breweries in America http://beergraphs.com/bg/74…

12:21
Comment From Ted Danson
Is David Peralta worth holding onto with Inciarte back? Other options on the wire are Aoki, Zimmerman, Melky, Inciarte, Ethier, Byrd, and Avi Garcia

12:22
Eno Sarris: I personally would go with upside and Avi Garcia. He’s on the top ten for pulled fly balls, which are great for power.

12:22
Comment From Larry
Would the 5 best Lakers of all time beat the 5 best Bulls?

12:23
Eno Sarris: If you eliminate Rodman because he played for both, wouldn’t the big men on the Lakers be too tough to overcome. Even with Rodman on Bulls, if he’s a top fiver.

12:23
Comment From adam
Ballpark, what’s a reasonable to return for a 17$ Rosenthal?

12:23
Eno Sarris: non top ten prospect or struggling MLB youngster on good deal

12:24
Comment From What do you make of Tomas from an as a keeper? Great upside, or wysiwyg?
Crap. My question is my name

12:24
Eno Sarris: A girl is no-one.

(I’d be selling Tomas)

12:24
Comment From Edward
How long can I keep Adam Lind as my starting 1B? I’ve also got Belt, but ehhh

12:24
Eno Sarris: Sub Belt when Adam plays a lefty and you’re fine.

12:25
Comment From Eric
Wow, re: return from LAD for David Price. Dave Cameron says Jose De Leon and filler. Eno says Seager or 3-4 high-tier guys. That’s a huge difference of opinion!

12:25
Eno Sarris: Well I’m not saying Seager will happen. I’m saying that’s the opening ask, based on Russell. Then Dodgers say no. But no, I don’t think de Leon is enough.

12:25
Comment From BJ
Samardzija got Russell but 1.5 years of Price only got Smyly+. Wouldn’t that be the baseline for negotiations if Price were made available?

12:26
Eno Sarris: Smyly is established young pitcher with years of control left. That’s better than a shot in dark with de Leon.

12:27
Eno Sarris: But it was more years of Price. Listen, every GM has their own opinion, or we’d see a ton more trades. If de Leon was the main piece, I’d want a better second piece.

12:28
Comment From Reginald Denton III
Hey Eno! Best act you saw at P4K fest?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Panda Bear.

12:28
Comment From Larry
Is Steven Pierce turning it around or is it just a matter of him only batting vs Lefties?

12:28
Eno Sarris: I think he’s settling in on that side of a platoon, yes.

12:28
Comment From Shawn
I feel like you and Trevor Bauer discussing pitching makes so much sense it hurts- tell this will happen/has happened?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Hopefully next week. Me and Donaldson talking hitting yesterday was pretty awesome.

12:29
Comment From Florko
Have you talked to Donaldson re. Mechanics yet? And was it awesome?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Weird I didn’t even see this first.

12:29
Comment From Brian
Yes, Eno chat day! Just wanted to brag about my rotation to a fellow lover of pitching (and because you helped make it possible): Scherzer, Cole, Arrieta, Archer, Keuchel, McCullers

12:29
Eno Sarris: lovely

12:29
Comment From Jim
“Sammardzija got Russel” is this really analogous? It was 1.5 years of Shark, plus half a year of Hammel, and was considered an overpay by a lot of people at the time.

12:30
Eno Sarris: It’s true. I’ll walk it back. de Leon, but not filler. de Leon plus… Verdugo?

12:30
Comment From Johnny5Alive
why are the mets afraid to bring up their best prospect when other teams arent, including those in the race? i

12:30
Eno Sarris: it’s infuriating

12:31
Comment From Dee Gordon
Will I finally learn not to slide head first into 1B? Does anyone know when I’m coming back?

12:31
Eno Sarris: Actually if you are good at it, it’s faster. Wrote a piece on it!

12:31
Comment From Deez
Should I drop Mike Montgomery and Cody Anderson to make room for Nola and Gausman?

12:31
Eno Sarris: I would drop Cody for Nola RIGHT NOW

12:31
Comment From Jeff
Do young players with reverse platoon splits tend to see those splits even out over the long run?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Reverse platoon splits take like 1000 PA versus lefties to be believable! It’s crazy time, don’t believe in those.

12:32
Comment From Jill
How many Hr’s and SB’s does Rendon get if he comes back next week?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Like two stolen bases. Maybe eight or so homers.

12:32
Comment From Ejected!
Does Kaz get traded before his noon start? Or are they risking him starting today for like no reason?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Gonna throw him and cross fingers I guess. You have to throw him to prove he’s healthy, too.

12:33
Comment From Thats not really Dave Dombrowski
Why do you love Soler so much? Outside of his first two weeks last year, the league has clearly adjusted and he hasn’t.

12:34
Eno Sarris: Dude’s batted ball mix is totally unlike last year, so he’s clearly made an adjustment. He hits the ball harder than 90% of the league, and hits it up the middle. I think it’s just a little recognition/when to swing thing, which, yeah maybe he’s needing to make another adjustment there, but it’s one he made in the minors. He’s a beast, still, in my eyes, and a great dynasty buy low.

12:34
Comment From Ejected!
Should I be starting Yan Gomes or Grandal?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Grandal

12:34
Comment From Art Vandelay
Went up to Oregon last weekend, got to stop by Crux, wow that’s a nice brewery (excuse me, fermentation project) had a feel much like Lagunitas did before they blew up. Good beer too, I think that half-hitch mosaic was my favorite, but I came home with a couple years of freakcake and assorted ales.

12:35
Eno Sarris: God I love Crux. HALF HITCH MOSAIC FTW

12:35
Comment From GiaB
headed to local brew pub later. do i go with some form of PA or mix it up?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Start Saison, mix in a stout, then finish IPA.

12:35
Comment From GiaB
would it be kosher to veto a calhoun for j. upton trade?

12:35
Eno Sarris: I don’t veto and I wouldn’t veto that.

12:35
Comment From Larry
Article Idea: Are trade deadline days calmer now than in the past- compare total WAR exchnaged.

12:36
Eno Sarris: Prediction: this year’s trade deadline will fizzle rather than sizzle.

12:36
Comment From hscer
You can never talk about a player too much. I should know.

12:36
Eno Sarris: Tell me some more about Danny Espinosa!

12:36
Eno Sarris: I keeed

12:37
Comment From Miggy Azalea
What’s your take on Yordano this year? I can’t really see anything in his numbers that suggest he’s doing anything different from 2014, but then again Ned Yost has probably never heard of FIP either…

12:37
Eno Sarris: He’s underperforming his stuff *and* getting a little unlucky, which is a strange combo and hard to analyze correctly. I’d be a cautious buyer in keepers but not with a strong offer.

12:38
Comment From Jim
Could you elaborate on why Jeffress for saves ROS? Will Smith has a better cFIP, but Jeffress is a righty?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Jeffress more velocity and a righty, just about as many holds. Will more Ks and a lefty. It’s close, but Will owned more often, so I wanted to point out JJ is an option.

12:39
Eno Sarris: Also, K-Rod seems most likely closer to be traded. Paps has a bad contract, Ramos is cheap. Clippard the other one, I’d take Pomeranz there despite being a lefty.

12:40
Comment From Guest
Enjoyed your piece this week on buying/selling in roto. If you’re in first right now you’re definitely not looking to punt/give up on any categories right? Like if you’re in first and weighing being able to gain points on your nearest competitiors in certain categories that’s getting too cute right?

12:40
Eno Sarris: In first, I’d just use your wire/bench to keep on top.

12:40
Eno Sarris: Picking up a guy that steals and not starting him to protect a lead there is about the cutest I’d get.

12:40
Comment From Mason
I sent Lorenzo Cain and Joey Gallo for his Jorge Soler in my Dynasty League. Who wins?

12:41
Eno Sarris: I think you do.

Have you ever noticed that the voice effect that The Game uses on his verse of the “Tell Me When To Go” remix is the same effect that is on Bubbler the Octopus’s voice from Diddy Kong Racing?

have you ever bought a new car? (or anyone here?) just thinking about the process gives me an ulcer

12:42
Comment From Maxamuz
Johnny5Alive should go back to his 8 team league. Duda is THE MAN.

12:42
Comment From Aaron Judge
Why I am in the minors while the Ghost of Carlos Beltran™ continues to roam?

12:43
Eno Sarris: This one is not as obvious to me as the Conforto situation. No power in Triple-A, up and down power in minors, too many Ks at most stops, veteran team that’s winning.

12:43
Comment From Enosauras
Heston, Jungmann, Montgomery and Cody Anderson have all surprised. Do you think any of them continue to have success over the next 5 years or will the league catch up to their stuff? So, what I’m asking is… are any of these guys legit?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Anderson and Jungmann are passes for me. Montgomery… as a lefty in a nice park, maybe. Heston, I like a bit. Never going to be a star, but serviceable for five years.

12:44
Comment From Compton
Is there a particular reason behind the Rays throwing such a high percentage of four-seam fastballs this year? Seems to have gone up significantly from 2014.

12:44
Eno Sarris: going for Ks

12:44
Comment From mtsw
Read an article on the Orioles SBNation blog who’s thesis was “Kevin Gausman is an elite starting if he figures out his breaking ball.” Is there any good precedents for guys who can’t throw breaking pitches learning how at this stage in their career?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Pitching, because of learning a pitch, is highly variable from year to year. And I’ve been yelling about Gausman’s breaker for a while. The curve could be it, we’ll see.

12:45
Comment From Eddie Brock
Is it time for the Indians to break out the Rachel Phelps cardboard cutout with removable leopard print pieces yet?

12:45
Eno Sarris: always

12:45
Comment From Compton
I’ve been doing some research as to whether or not teams change their pitch usage in double-play situations. Is this worth writing up, or more along the lines of ‘whatever’.

12:45
Eno Sarris: More sinkers? I’m interested.

12:45
Comment From Ron
Any rumblings about shutting the Mets SPs down or is that completely dependent on whether they fall out of the race?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Matz and Thor agreed with me when I said that the six-man rotation was a boon for them because it kept them with big league squad instead of being shut down, so

12:46
Comment From Ryan
When you talk to Bauer, can you ask him to try to cut down on those damn walks?!?!

12:46
Eno Sarris: command will certainly be a part of the conversation

12:46
Comment From Dallas
How is Donaldson holding up / looking physically? I know there was some concern about his aggressive playing style on that turf.

12:46
Eno Sarris: Well it did seem like there was a cold going around the clubhouse lol

12:47
Comment From RoRo
Price > Shark

12:47
Eno Sarris: Yeah I mean that was part of my thinking too.

12:47
Comment From KJ
Hi Eno, left a comment on one of your posts re: buying low on Leonys Martin. I have to think a team (in actual MLB) will sign him for 2016 where they can give him PT since Tex seems to be moving on.

12:47
Eno Sarris: Yeah too bad his power didn’t really develop in such a nice park

12:48
Comment From Dean
Do you think Rusney Castillo for Carlos Rodon is a fair trade?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Not bad. Not in love with either, would take the hitter except he’s way older.

12:48
Comment From The+Boat
Pre-season, some FG writers were down on Heaney, believing he would end up in the pen. What do you think of him now?

12:49
Eno Sarris: I loved him then and I love him now. Change always had more shape and they worked on his mechanics to improve command.

12:49
Comment From Mike
I’m basically locked into playoffs. What do I do with Velasquez since he’ll probably have innings capped?

12:49
Eno Sarris: Trade to bottom team for veteran who will be around. I like Velasquez, good rising fastball, good breaker, needs to throw good change more, but he’s nobody you have to hold super tight.

12:49
Comment From Chicago Mark
Care to guess where Kazmir, Shark, Price and Cueto end up?

12:50
Eno Sarris: GUESSING
Kazmir – LAD
Cueto – TOR
Price – DET
Shark – NYY

12:50
Comment From Scott
There was a report the Braves are listening on Teheran and are looking for a young catcher. Teheran for Swihart+ who says no?

12:51
Eno Sarris: I’d guess Red Sox say no, but I also said Teheran is the type that would bring a good return because of years of control, so it’s not a terrible idea.

12:51
Comment From GiaB
local brew pub has double black ipa, belgian tripel, belgian ipa, english ipa, and indian pale lager. Which way do you go?

12:51
Eno Sarris: Pale lager, english ipa, double black.

12:51
Comment From Nick
Do you think the mets and tigers could match up on a Niese – Cespedes deal? The mets glut of pitching makes him expendable and he would help some of the tigers rotation woes this year and next.

12:51
Eno Sarris: TRADE NIESE YESTERDAY

12:52
Comment From Chicago Mark
Don’t the Cubs need a bat more than an arm? Why pay for Price when they can sign him. Use the trade chips for a bat?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Oh! we forgot Hamels – HOU or CHN
I think in terms of team construction, it’s still the arm they need. I know they’ve had some trouble scoring runs, but I believe in their young position players (other than Baez).

12:53
Comment From Derp Patrol
Got offered Greinke and Soler for my Pederson and Sano. Would you take? I’m in second and going for it. Keeper league.

12:53
Eno Sarris: I think you only have to give up Pederson there.

12:53
Comment From Johnny5Alive
had southern tier choklat oranj imperial last night. delicious, but too sweet for a 16 oz pour. Give it to me in a snifter man!

12:53
Eno Sarris: Jesus that’s a lot of sweet.

12:54
Comment From Eric
In addition to not fully understanding why the Guerrero poison pill can’t just be waived or contracted around, I also don’t understand why it “kills” his trade value. He’s kind of an unknown/upside acquisition anyway. Would a team prefer getting additional 2yr/10m guaranteed or prefer him as a rental? I think it could go either way, and doesn’t drastically alter my Heaney for Kendrick/Guerrero/Lee idea.

12:55
Eno Sarris: Sure, it can be negotiated around. I just think it makes it less likely, because it’s another hurdle. And despite his good work, I don’t think an analytically inclined front office is targeting a 28-year-old bad-glove righty with that plate discipline. Your deal makes some sense, though, since he’s not a central piece. It would also be fun as hell to write about.

12:55
Comment From KJ
I know always take the hitter, but would you move Sonny Gray for Betts?

12:55
Eno Sarris: Yes

12:56
Comment From Art Vandelay
After MacPhail coming out and saying he doesn’t want a lame-duck GM overseeing the Hamels trade, can we assume that A) Hamels and Papelbon are staying in Philly, and B) Ruben Amaro is finally on his last season?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Oh god he said that. I guess Hamels – PHI, but really you could read that as “I’m going to handle it.”

12:57
Comment From Chuqui
So would you trade Seager for Soler in a dynasty points league? I’m trying to gauge your Soler love.. I’m set at SS with Correa.

12:57
Eno Sarris: That’s a bit much maybe. But if you’re going for it, Soler playing now, if it came with a reliever or a vet non-keeper type SP…

12:58
Comment From Brian
I need OF power and currently have an underperforming Carlos Gomez and Puig, with Soler on the bench. Would you trade away a potential rebound like Desmond for Justin Upton? Or wait on Soler and a Gomez/Puig rebound?

12:58
Eno Sarris: I’d be happy with your OF.

12:58
Comment From Derp Patrol
Buying a new car is very easy now. Compare prices online. Go to a dealership, let them give you the spiel. Walk out, no matter what. Email them a week later, with a price you’re thinking of. Do all of the negotiating over email. If you want, email another dealer and use them to drive a lower price. Go pick up your car after you’ve agreed on the price. Don’t let them sell you any more crap. It’s way easier than it used to be.

12:58
Comment From Compton
Any health concern with Archer throwing ~40% sliders this year? Obviously, a key to his breakout, but doesn’t that limit his long-term value?

12:58
Eno Sarris: I’m a little nervous, yes. Not only are there so many, they’re so hard!

12:59
Comment From kevinthecomic
what level of trepidation do you feel when interviewing a player about their weaknesses? – ie. Bauer about walks, some hitter (maybe Reynolds) about Ks, etc.

12:59
Eno Sarris: a couple of sweat droplets running down my back sort of level

1:00
Comment From Tom
Sano and Carlos Martinez (neither can be kept) for Carlos Carrasco (who can)? Who will the innings limit affect more this year?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Carrasco has had more innings in his career, more innings in one season, more innings last year.

1:02
Comment From kid
In a H2H league I need a catcher (non-keeper). Dude has Gattis and wants my Kris Bryant. I have Justin Turner as a backfill. On the surface this doesn’t seem fair but Gattis is basically a DH so the counting stats are great for a catcher. What say you?

1:04
Eno Sarris: Interesting: Ten catchers projected for more PA going forward than Gattis, but only one with more PA to date (Posey). Must be factoring injury in. If you give him more PA going forward, to match what he’s done to date, you’re only giving up four or five SBs and maybe ten points of batting average in the trade. It’s defensible. I probably wouldn’t do it because I would just go find a catcher and enjoy my really good third baseman.

1:04
Comment From Jeff
Best beers you had in and around Boston?

1:04
Eno Sarris: Trillium everything, Jack’s Abby Hoponius, Night Shift Belafonte.

Help! Lineups set soon. Start 2 of these 3 : Liriano ( Wash); Bauer( CHW) Fiers ( at Az), Thanks

1:04
Eno Sarris: Liriano Bauer

Comment From Marcus SE6ien
A’s writer Susan Slusser saying Astros are Kazmir frontrunners

1:05
Eno Sarris: Maybe Hamels isn’t going to happen for anyone then. Poop.

1:05
Eno Sarris: I really thought Hamels was a great fit for Houston.

I know youre getting a lot of Nola questions but I’m struggling deciding on last rotation spot. Nola over Latos/Teheran?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Latos seems to be a common ask here. He’s looked better since he returned from DL, with velocity up a bit, and K-BB okay. I like Nola a lot, but I’d only really make the jump if I was bottom half and needed to go for lightning, or in a keeper league.

Who is the FIRST player to be traded this week? Obviously this is Kazmir’s last Oakland start, is he hugging his teammates during the game?

1:08
Eno Sarris: I think Billy likes to be first, that’s a decent bet.

1:09
Comment From Jonny
Fantasy trade question. What kind of return would you expect for Encarnacion in a 18 team dynasty league?

1:09
Eno Sarris: A really good one and I’d wait if I didn’t get it.

1:09
Comment From I am the Walrus
Would Schwarber for (pick a NYM young pitcher) Syndergaard (?) make sense?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Not really, I think the Cubs still want him to catch, and the Mets have a good young catcher.

Comment From Matt
Wilmer Flores has a bad BABIP over nearly 200 games. What is it in his batted ball profile that leads him to such a low BABIP? Or is it a matter of luck?

1:10
Eno Sarris: One thing he does really badly is pop the ball up a ton. Almost twice the league average. That’ll kill your BABIP.

1:10
Eno Sarris: Also, he’s bad.

Ruben Amaro drafted his nephew and he’s starting for the Phillies’ Low-A team. Sign of a badly run front office or the sort of low level nepotism that baseball runs on?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Happens a lot. Sometimes it turns into Mike Piazza.

1:11
Comment From Scott
If Hamels isnt traded this trade deadline, will is value go down? Next year he will be 32 and the Phillies will have to compete with all the FA pitchers

1:11
Eno Sarris: Value goes up in July because you know if you’re a contender or not, so yes.

1:11
Comment From Enosauras
Devon Travis or Kang for future? Yasmany Tomas or Piscotty?

1:12
Eno Sarris: Travis… ug. Piscotty has okay contact skills, but I don’t know about that power. Tomas is turning into the pumpkin I thought he’d be. God. Piscotty?

am i the only one who is reminded of rondell white when i watch soler? right down to the leg issues?

SP depth – Felix, Harvey, Cueto, Pineda, T. Ross, Burnett, Estrada, J. Chavez. Who do I trade for a closer?

1:15
Eno Sarris: I doubt anyone takes that lovely Burnett Chavez package, but if someone needed SP depth and had a ton of closers… I might sell low on Ross. I do think he can pick it up, but maybe it’s just easier for hitters not to swing when they know it’s one of two pitches.

Huge fan of Maharaja from Avery Brewing. Absurdly drininkable at 10.2%. Ever had?

Something brewing with #Athletics and Scott Kazmir. He just came out of Bob Melvin’s office. Asst GM David Forst also in clubhouse.

Hey Eno ! I’m going to Chicago this weekend for bachelor party. Any recommended brewery tours to hit up ?? Thanks

1:17
Eno Sarris: Goose Island Brewpub, no tour tho. Check if Half Acre has a tour, they’re great. Piece Pizza no tour but great beers and pizza.

1:17
Eno Sarris: Sherriff of Nottingham back for Kazmir

1:18

Comment From Travis is my Jam
Why “Travis… ug.”? His whole (minor league) career has shown merciless contact and he continues to hit in the bigs. He has a decent number of PA now, so I imagine the discipline and adaptations to holes are real. Is there something concerning about him?

1:20
Eno Sarris: No the ug was for Tomas and Piscotty

thats 2 guys in A ball for Kazmir, could they have done better?

1:21
Eno Sarris: Guys in A-Ball have a secret value for Beane, IMO. Never going to play for Oakland. Pump value, sell for veterans.

1:21
Comment From KJ
Pretty cheap rental. Real nice for Astros. Can’t believe no one else would have topped that??

1:22
Eno Sarris: Billy probably heard a few offers but liked those players.

1:22
Comment From Johnny5Alive
now if only theyd take 2 non-list A prospects for zobrist and hed be on the mets!

1:22
Eno Sarris: Apparently the Mets can’t afford the two million left on that contract so they should just contract.

1:22
Comment From Swanchy
My Kershaw, Carlos Gomez, and Chris Carter for his Machado, Matt Harvey, and Josh Reddick in a keep 6?

1:23
Eno Sarris: A little upgrade in the win now category without much of a step back, maybe even an improvement with Gomez to Machado. I like it.

1:23
Eno Sarris: Only worry pitching is if it’s H2H and Harvey only gets to 180 or so, or gets shut down if they fall out.

1:23
Comment From Marty
I traded Tony Watson, Neil walker and a 9th round pick for Machado & Hamels and a 17th round pick. /takes bow

Thoughts on Preston Tucker in a daily league where I can bench him against LHP? Legit value ROS?

De Leon’s helium has him top 25 overall on updated lists. So much better than the guys Beane got lol

1:28
Eno Sarris: To be fair, Price > Kazmir.

Moss a buy-low or just a low? So hard to tell sometimes. Still, low BABIP, good contact profile, amiright?

I build my keeper rotation around your articles, Eno. 1st place in a keeper, drop E Rodriguez for Nola? Need to stay competitive in ERA. I’m leaning yes.

1:33
Eno Sarris: Dunno man, fireballing lefty with three pitches, I like Eduardo’s stuff better than Nola’s, and he doesn’t have a big command asterisk.
