Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 7/27/17

1:32
Eno Sarris: be here shortly!

12:01
Eno Sarris: Yo I’m here!

12:02
Sourman: You pumped for Chris Flexen? I assume you’ll be paying close attention to him.

12:02
Eno Sarris: Came into the season like 56th on the Mets starting pitcher depth chart haha.

12:02
Topher: best lottery ticket ROS in a twelve team, points league?  Snell, Pivetta, A. Moore, M. Moore, Mejia, Marquez, Lamet. Thank you much sir.

12:02
Eno Sarris: Snell and then Lamet.

12:02
Pine Needles: Is Steven Matz hurt?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Also a possibility he needed the Warthen Slider to make the package hum. His secondaries are not as good as his fastball for sure.

12:03
RotoLando: Can I count on Chris Flexen to not be terrible today?

12:04
Eno Sarris: No, definitely not. Dude’s been pretty old for his levels on the way up, but at least the k-BB is strong. That’s all I got on Flexen so let’s move on.

12:04
Will: Eno! Gimmie your best IPA from North Carolina

12:05
Eno Sarris: Stop Drop N Roll from NoDa is good but I also like Jade IPA from Foothills.

12:05
Matt: Eno, This is life or death. Dynasty league. Is it worth trading 6-9 years of controllable Trea Turner for a rental Max Scherzer? Me thinks the price is a bit high, but maybe I’m just…unreasonable?

12:05
Eno Sarris: I’d trade for a cheaper starting pitcher and hope for a good stretch. Keep Trea. He’s almost back.

12:06
v2micca: Braves finally demote Swanson to AAA so he can get every day playing time.  Why did they wait so long to do this after benching him?

12:07
Eno Sarris: It’s an interesting decision. You want the person to be able to hit major league pitching, not minor league pitching. So there’s an argument to keep him up. And if you’re sending him down to get confidence, fine, but the act of sending him down itself won’t improve his confidence.

12:08
dee’s nuts: What’s up with Carlos Martinez?  He’s thrown some clunkers lately.  You don’t think he’s injured do you?

12:09
Eno Sarris: His velocity is fine, his release point is steady, and he’s still living in the zone, and those are the only blunt tools we have for that type of question.

12:09
Xolo: Where’s Gray end up?

12:09
Eno Sarris: New York?

12:10
Sleeper Star: Any tips on how to try to deal with an owner who has to make the last offer/has to win every trade? We’re in a dynasty league and both playing for this year, if that makes any difference

12:10
Eno Sarris: See if that includes giving up an extra player? That player might be close enough to waiver acquisition that he can win on players but you still get what you need. Otherwise move on.

12:11
Sourman: How valuable is Aaron Hicks in dynasty? I’m debating trading him in my OBP league but I don’t know how much regression to predict.

12:12
Eno Sarris: I like what he’s doing, but I think he’s tradeable. I mean he’s already turning 28 next year, and stolen bases age terribly, so if he’s a true talent .260 20/8 type guy, that’s not worth holding too hard.

12:12
Red’s Sox: Do you think we find a way to keep Devers and Nunez in the lineup? Xander has been a 250 hitter over his last 700 PAs, Benny has been struggling,  Moreland is below replacement level…

12:13
Eno Sarris: Nunez can play the outfield and isn’t an amazing hitter or anything, so play him against lefties, sub him in late in games, make him a super util, and he can take over if Devers fades.

12:14
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: Who will be happiest with their White Sox reliever acquisition, the Yankees, the Brewers, or the Rays?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Kahnle’s command could go at any point, but Swarzak has been really good since he added two ticks and that probably won’t go away so quickly.

12:14
Young MC: Eno, facing a tough decision. Did you prefer living in ATL or NYC?

12:15
Eno Sarris: Nothing beats being a young person in New York City. As a kid, I might have taken Atlanta. I rode bikes around and had a lawn and a park across the road and lived inside the city limits. Was pretty great, thinking back.

12:15
Pine Needles: You always say Bogaerts says he wouldn’t change what’s working…well is it time for a change?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Yeah those were his words. I worry that he sees the .284 average and thinks everything is fine. And, among shortstops, being nearly league average is fine, really. But he could be more of a star.

12:16
Sourman: You play fantasy football?

12:16
Eno Sarris: I’ve sworn off all forms of football, pretty much. I’ll go to a Stanford game sometimes, but that’s to see people and eat a hot dog and so on.

12:17
Al B. Tross: Judge has now hit .245 in his last 85 PAs. I don’t want to be hasty and assume this is his new normal, but his BABIP has been .353 during that time. It’s hard to imagine him maintaining a BABIP much higher than that. Is it reasonable to imagine him settling in as a .250 hitter going forward?

12:17
Eno Sarris: I’m just going to leave this here.

12:17
Eno Sarris: (If you haven’t been in all the chats, yes, I basically said he’d be a .260 hitter with a .350 BABIP, and that wasn’t a popular opinion.)

12:18
ballsandgutters: You sent me to Modern Times in San Diego.   The monkeys made out of post it notes is amazing…

IRT your McCutchen article do you offer him an extension if you’re the Pirates?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Always depends on the numbers. I see a guy that’s above-average in every facet of the game (in the corner OF), but I couldn’t pay him like a star.

12:19
Steve: How much are you down on Tim Anderson? He’s been pretty awful this year.

12:20
Eno Sarris: As a baseball player, I’m not done with him. I think he can be a plus D, 80 wRC+ guy with a little power growth. As a fantasy guy… could still .275/15/15 and be an okay deep leaguer for a few years.

12:20
Altuve: Why do you guys hate me?

12:20
Eno Sarris: …

12:21
Matt: Eno, what’d I do to the fantasy gods this year?  Beltre started on the DL, then lost Eaton for the season, next it was Trout and the Turner, Trout comes back, then it’s Correa, now it’s Strasburg.  Why do they hate me so much?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Everyone is On the DL.

12:21
Eno Sarris: The motto of the 2017 season.

12:21
Double Simcoe: Is Jim Johnson still likely to get traded? Braves don’t have a reason to keep him but the rumors surrounding him have dried up. Are other teams just not interested in him? I’m hanging onto Arodys but maybe there’s no point

12:22
Eno Sarris: I don’t think he’s that likely to be traded. Braves need to keep getting better to keep people coming to the park, and he’s not a standout reliever and he’s a rental, right?

12:22
Hannah Hochevar: I guess you don’t need to write that Matt Boyd article I kept asking you for earlier in the season…

12:23
Eno Sarris: Man I still have the interview in place. People ask who I root for, it’s players like Matt Boyd, for a host of reasons. He was polite, even nice. He thinks really hard about his craft. He’s made some adjustments that would be fun to illustrate.

12:23
Travis: 2B has been the one black-hole in my lineup all year. However, Rizzo is only one game away from eligibility due to the Cubs weird positioning on certain bunts. The problem is he has been a game away for over a month, and they haven’t done it since. Does he get another game there?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Yeah he will. keep churning the waiver wire in the meantime.

12:23
Marc: Are you worried about Lance McCullers or ERod for the rest of the year?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Not really. I’d acquire.

12:24
Justin: Did the Cardinals find themselves an average regular in Paul Dejong?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Could be. He’s a product of the juiced ball environment, I’d say. Not that he needs the ball this way to hit it out, but that he gets enough of a power boost from it to make up for being a 3/30 type. Seriously, was there ever a time when there were so many guys that struck out ten times more than they walked? … hey that’s probably a piece.

12:25
Hooha: I was offered Kris Bryant and Sam Dyson for my Anthony Rendon and Aaron Nola in a 12 team roto keeper league.  I’m waffling on it as my biggest needs are average and ratios, but would be getting a nice keeper boost.  Would you accept it?

12:26
Eno Sarris: I say no. I’d only do this for the saves boost and even then if I was desperate. And I’m not saying that Rendon is better than Bryant as a keeper. I just really like Nola and find the batters close enough.

12:26
RotoLando: What is your long-term view on Jharel Cotton and Joe Ross?  I traded Cobb and Flexen, mostly on the promise of future strikeouts.

12:26
Eno Sarris: More in on Cotton. He has more pitches, and it’s not like Joe Ross has good extension and perceived velocity anyway. And his changeup is bad. Plus his health issues are worse.

12:26
Kobe: Is Paul Dejong just the middle infield version of Keon Broxton?

12:26
Eno Sarris: See?

12:26
Marc: How much should we be being into Contreras’ hot streak?

12:27
Eno Sarris: Just appreciate that he’s very good. Not long before him and Gary are obviously the two best offensive catchers in the league.

12:27
Nick: Trying to dump cahill at the deadline in a keeper league…is ketel marte a fair return? I need a SS

12:27
Eno Sarris: You’re not going to do much better.

12:27
Hooha: Who are your favorite save spec picks for post-deadline saves?

12:28
Eno Sarris: I guess Petricka now, woof. Bruce Rondon. Jeurys Familia number one. Blake Treinen is interesting. Does Keone Kela count?

12:28
Bork: How would you best explain Beltre’s ejection.

12:29
Eno Sarris: “Fun player does fun thing in an extremely low leverage moment knowing he might piss someone off, pisses someone off, heads to showers early.”

12:29
Eno Sarris: aka UMPSHOW

12:30
mplais: Word all along has been that Franklin Barreto would be called up when Lowrie gets moved. Is a Lowrie trade still happening?

12:31
Eno Sarris: With Boston out of the picture, who’s still in? Rays? Could be in the Yanks package. Gray, Lowrie, Alonso if the Yanks want to pony up. Doubt the Dodgers buy him. He might stay put.

12:31
v2micca: Been watching Foltynewicz last couple of starts.  His fastball slider combo is devastating when he has them working.  Problem is he only seems to have them working half the time, and when he misses, he misses over the heart of the plate.  Still, tantalizing enough to let you dream on his upside.

12:31
Eno Sarris: I think that will describe his entire career. Bad command, I guess.

12:31
Beano Sarris: Faaarrrrt! RRRRrrpppp! Spllllllltt!

12:31
Salmon Colored Polo: Stop stealing my wife’s breast milk, bro!

12:31
Nihilist Eno: The Trade Deadline is coming and there is one deal that I can guarantee will happen: the eventual exchange of our lives for utter nothingness

12:32
Eno Sarris: This interlude has been brought to you by the Host Of Equivalent Enos.

12:32
Double Simcoe: Who’s getting squeezed out of the Astros rotation once Kuechel returns?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Joe Musgrove?

12:32
Jobu: Story or Gregorious at SS ROS, 12 teamer?

12:32
Eno Sarris: NOTORIOUS

12:33
NtFlxAndRichHill: Have pitches that move across the horizontal plane become more effective, relatively speaking, with the new ball. Seems like more and more pitchers are adopting cutters.

12:33
Eno Sarris: Horizontal movement is tied to grounders, and with homers up, it may just be a choice some pitchers are making. Also, cutters are a good way to stave off a declining fastball and/or have a weapon against opposite handed hitters if you don’t have a change.

12:34
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: If you could take a team of players–your choice–from 2000 and insert them into the current MLB season, how would that team perform? Pull out all the stops. Big Unit, Pedro Martinez, A-Rod, uh…Brian Giles…

12:34
Eno Sarris: Dude could Brian Giles hit 50 today?

12:34
Kobe: Should the Brewers increase Josh Hader’s role? His stuff seems too electric to be used as a LOOGY like he was last night.

12:35
Eno Sarris: Guerra’s stuff might play up in the pen, he could take that slot in the rotation. I love Hader.

12:35
Edubs: ENO! Heading on a 14 day PNW vacation. Can you give me one must-visit brewery each for Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Cascade, Holy Mountain and Storm.

12:36
Babe Lincoln: Not sure why, but I’ve been a huge fan of you position player-focused articles lately.  Liking them better than your pitcher ones.  In case you care.

12:36
Eno Sarris: The ebb and flow of the world.

12:37
Gub Gub:

12:38
Your Night Nurse: Who would you rather sell in a keep forever league: Bregman or Devers? I have too many 3Bs.

12:38
Eno Sarris: man I still like Bregman. And when it comes to current trade value wrt to peak value, Devers might be the guy to sell right now.

12:38
Slapshot: Assuming there is no weird collapse, it looks like we’re headed towards a Nats/Cubs NLDS.  The Nats have to be actively hoping they avoid the Cubs if they want a better chance of finally making it to the NLCS, don’t they?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Not necessarily. The Cubs pitching seems more touchable this year.

12:39
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: Okay sammich guy, improve upon my lunch.  Baby spinach, baked teriyaki tofu, brie cheese, on a pretzel bagel.

12:39
Eno Sarris: I hate to be one note, but sriracha honey mustard would bring the east and west together real nice.

12:40
Shuck Bowalter: Will the A’s really get more for Gray in the offseason? It doesn’t seem like the list of suitors or demand will grow. I feel like they kind of have to move him before this weekend.

12:40
Eno Sarris: Only way they get more is if he goes nuts the final month. Right now, contenders know they are contenders and know their needs. It’s a good time.

12:40
Moltar: I just want to join hands with all my fellow Kershaw owners and pray for a full recovery in time for the fantasy playoffs ::prayer hands emoji::

12:40
YKnotDisco?!: If pitching and batting have WPA metrics, could fielding?

12:40
Eno Sarris: Sample so tiny.

12:41
Babe Lincoln: On know you’re high on Amed Rosario, but what about Dom Smith?

12:41
Eno Sarris: I like his contact, but I’m a little nervous that it took going to Las Vegas to finally get an impressive slugging percentage. I think he might be underwhelming.

12:41
Marissa: Thoughts on Conforto in center? Or is it too much of a SSS.

12:42
Eno Sarris: Not a natural there, but slimmed down he can fake it for a year.

12:42
Tim Tebow’s Thunder Thighs: Dave seems supremely confident in the Dodgers’ rotation headed into the playoffs, but I look at these guys (Wood, Hill, Kershaw) and their injury histories and would bet money they’re missing at least 1/3 of that trio come October. Should they go after Gray or Darvish and play rotator cuff roulette?

12:43
Eno Sarris: Depends on price, of course, but they are flush with prospects and some of them (Calhoun) would be much better in the American League. I agree with you, I think as much as 2/3 of that top three could be toast in October.

12:43
Funkhouser: What is the best path forward for the Phillies? I have a whole treatise on how the trade for Hunter Pence was the last great gaffe, and they held all their tradable talent too long in 2011/2012. I’d love to see them target Machado and some international signings, but I worry we’re still a good 3-4 years away from pushing playoffs again. What do you think?

PS. Finding out you don’t do chips with your sandwiches broke my heart. 60% of sandwiches I eat I put chips inside of, 95% I eat with at least chips on the side.

12:44
Eno Sarris: This year has been v depressing for the Phils, and I thought they were closer than they might be. However, I still like Franco and Crawford, I think they will probably have two or three average to plus outfielders and maybe even a star, have money, Nola is great… I think they might be 2-3 years away.

12:45
Eno Sarris: PS I put chips inside sandos sometimes, but I can’t afford the calories on the side.

12:45
Will Graham : Corbin different pitch mix of late? Improvement?

12:45
Eno Sarris: Yeah the velo gap on his changeup is probably the best it’s ever been. I like him again.

12:46
mplais: You’re in charge of all beer-related dealings at the new park in Oakland. What would you make sure makes it in?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Fieldwork.

12:46
Eno Sarris: Would be nice to find room for Cellarmaker.

12:47
Eno Sarris: Every new park should have a good beer bar attached to it like AT&T. A chalkboard bar that doesn’t have to have enough beer for 50k people, and can actually offer small batch stuff on the regular.

12:47
Eno Sarris: Mets got the picture with Mikkeller.

12:47
NtFlxAndRichHill: I left a stupidly long question but I don’t think you have time to read that much writing, so here is the jist: What type of P and MI could I hope for in a package of R. Zimmerman or Y. Alonso + J. Faria + DoSantana or A. Duvall?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Man I can’t answer these. It’s really only about the teams in your league. I’ll say I’d tray to keep Domingo as much as possible and just look for the sellers in your league with that package and get what you can.

12:48
Mallow: I know everyone wants to talk Gray/Darvish/Verlander but it looks like the Giants quietly hold two solid SP trade chips in Cueto/Samardzija. Do you see them waiting to see where any of those big three land before trying to take advantage of desperate teams or trying to unload either before some of the bigger names get dealt?

12:48
Eno Sarris: The difficulty there is that Shark has a no-trade and likes SF and has a decent chunk of change on the contract, and Cueto has the opt-out combined with meh work this year.

12:48
Mike M: Why are people high on Seth Lugo? His peripherals look ick.

12:49
Eno Sarris: Everyone always brings up spin rate, and yeah, his curve spin is sick, but it takes more than one pitch.

12:49
Jart: Did you see Puig kiss his hitting coach after hitting a HR last night?

12:49
Eno Sarris: Love that man.

12:49
Justin: Where do I go to move away from IPAs? Big fan, but looking to broaden horizons. Skeptical about stouts, but open minded for styles/suggestions.

12:49
Eno Sarris: Hoppy sours? I love them. Almanac Tropical Galaxy is my jam.

12:50
Coach McGuirk: Any good beer recommendations in South Jersey? Spending the week on the shore with the family. Bringing a bunch of Treehouse with me, so urge to find more beer may be low.

12:51
Eno Sarris: Damn I haven’t published the Jersey Shore travel piece yet, I have. Lemme see… He goes to Dark City in Asbury Park, Kane Brewing in Ocean, and Jughandle in Tinton Falls. Oh and Carton of course.

12:51
Ayeff: Will the ‘Gohara/Jackson for lol’ trade haunt JDP for-eh-ver or is Gohara just a live arm and Jackson an immobile Doumit?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Pretty sure Jackson was the catcher that gave the awful tag that allowed JP Crawford to score on a walk off inside the park grand slam.

12:52
Reginald Denton III: How many pairs of shoes do you own?

12:53
Eno Sarris: Many but I wear three 95% of the time. Green Onitsuka Tiger Jamaicas, Blue Pumas, and flip flops.

12:53
Phil: Best northern CA breweries/brewpubs to check out? Will be heading to Sacramento/Napa area in a few weeks. Might be able to make it down to San Fran., but thinking more north than that.

12:53
Eno Sarris: Fieldwork is in Napa now. Henhouse in Santa Rosa is amazing. Berryessa near Sacramento and Fieldwork is in Sacto too. Knee Deep is fun.

12:53
Jumbotron: Have you had any of Lord Hobo, specifically Hobo Life? Really refreshing, even if it isn’t recreating the wheel

12:54
Eno Sarris: No but they are coming to OctFest I think, so I will soon!

12:54
Alex: Hi Eno, do you think Michael Fulmer can regain the K potential he flashed earlier in the year? Tons of soft contact is nice and all but K’s would be nice too :). Also, I’ve had the joy of consuming Sip of Sunshine and Heady in the past couple weeks and both my father and I feel Sip is better all around. What’s your take?

12:54
Eno Sarris: I like Sip more and I think Fulmer has made his choice.

12:54
Bryan: Thoughts on Donaldson? I really need power, but don’t know if I should try to deal him before trade value has totally disappeared this year.

12:54
Eno Sarris: He can only get healthy and better from here, I’m holding.

12:55
Troutmaggedon: Can you and Paul Sporerererer do a pod on some keeper targets that have lost some shine and are good long term buys?

12:55
Eno Sarris: Good idea.

12:55
Red: How’s the hand?

12:55
Eno Sarris: Dont think it’s broken! Just hurts.

12:55
THE PREDICTOR: It is revealed that Mike Trout only eats carrots.

12:55
Eno Sarris: He should be orange then.

12:55
Matt:

12:56
GK: Is it time to consider Didi as in the highest tier of shortstops? Far outperforming players like Bogaerts (granted, who is likely a bit injured) and Lindor hitting-wise.

12:56
Eno Sarris: He is definitely underappreciated and making the most of his league and park situation.

12:57
Will Graham : Sam Dyson seems to have figured it out since the move to SF. Prefer him Treinin or blevins ros?

12:57
Eno Sarris: yeah. I bet melancon doesn’t make it back.

12:57
Tumbler, Whiskey: What’s up with Luis Castillo? What’s the upside there?

12:59
Eno Sarris: Whats the comp for a straight but fast but poorly commanded fastball and two secondaries, plus change? It’s not perfect but maybe like a Jimmy Nelson career?

12:59
Bobby: Is Donaldson done as an elite hitter? Everything under the hood is trending in the bad direction. Are we looking at an injury-related slump, age-related decline, or age-related injury decline?

12:59
Eno Sarris: DINGER

12:59
Jay: How long will it be before Amed Rosario is called up and how quickly will he adapt?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Gotta be up in the next couple of weeks. I’ll be on the edge of my seat, hoping for Lindor esque work (16 not 17)

1:00
Yoenis: where has my power gone?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Into hurt body parts.

1:00
THE PREDICTOR: Mike Cameron un-retires and signs with the Astros when his son Daz Cameron is called up. He continues his playing career until Daz Cameron’s unborn son also is called up to the Astros making them the first grandfather-father-son outfield to ever play in the majors at the same time.

1:01
Eno Sarris: I bet you Mike Cameron is in flawless physical shape right now.

1:01
Swiss: Is the Detroit mandate to shed payroll bad enough that they would consider sending Michael Fulmer and Justin Upton’s contract to the Cubs for a package built around Kyle Schwarber and prospects?

1:01
Eno Sarris: Doubt it. They are already going to be $40 million under 2017 OD salary next year.

1:02
CraftyPils: What’s the fantasy leash on Moncada. 14tm 6×6 H2H. Is he going to start running? Sorry, I’m being an alarmist

1:03
Eno Sarris: In a non keeper I’m not sure I’d have a humongous leash for a guy that will probably strike out 25-30% of the time and is 22 on a bad team. But I’d at least give it another week.

1:03
THE PREDICTOR: Austin Kearns moves to central Texas to open a typography firm, called Austin Kerns.

1:03
Eno Sarris: two people will get this joke.

1:03
Franco: You starting Manaea today?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Hah I guess I’m about 45 minutes behind the questions. Will get a move on.

1:04
Will Graham : Semien still have a chance for a big breakout? Feels like he’s on the verge of putting together a really nice power speed profile.

1:04
Eno Sarris: Not this year, I doubt. That type of injury takes a bit to heal even after he comes back.

1:05
Guest: In my keeper league, both kershaw and trout are on bad teams and cost too much to keep. How do you fairly sell in fantasy? No one’s going to rob peter to pay paul; cheap correa or seager aren’t going for a kershaw or trout rental. but a pile of nobodies for big contributors for the stretch run doesn’t seem fair to the rest of the league. How does these deals normally go down?

1:05
Eno Sarris: Cheap young non-stars. Like a Domingo Santana. Maybe Bellinger level if a lot of needs are met.

1:05
New: I heard Devers has a similar bat to Moncada but might have a better hit tool. Could he end up being the better fantasy prospect?

1:05
Eno Sarris: He makes more contact. Doubt he steals a ton.

1:06
Bo: Do the Cubs run away with the Central eventually?

1:06
Eno Sarris: If the Brewers get a cost controlled starter and also elevate Hader, they could make a run I think.

1:07
Noah: Are you with any of the three projections fangraphs site has on Robbie Ray or are you taking the over (ERA > 4)

1:08
Eno Sarris: Steamer looks reasonable to me (3.8/1.3).

1:08
Troutmaggedon: Modern Times Critical band or Orderville? Can’t say both.

1:08
Eno Sarris: Band.

1:09
THE PREDICTOR: The two biggest names traded during this year’s trade deadline are: Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen.

1:09
Eno Sarris: Maybe need to tweak the algo.

1:09
Gest: What happened to Taillon?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Never had a good change.

1:09
Eno Sarris: I’m a whole page behind..

1:09
Tim Tebow’s Thunder Thighs: The plots for Under Siege, Under Siege 2, and Executive Decision are all the same, the terrorists just move from a boat to a train to a plane.  When do they take over the International Space Station?  Is Seagal too fat to save us a fourth time?  Does this film go straight to TV or straight to the Walmart discount DVD bin?

1:10
Eno Sarris: big questions for big thighs.

1:10
toki: They should throw a go-pro on Johnny Cueto for a game and let fans stream that view.

1:10
Eno Sarris: And also the hitters facing him.

1:10
Troutmaggedon: Best beer region in the country? SoCal right?

1:11
Eno Sarris: LA starting to bring it, could be tilting the scales against Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Michigan, Vermont. Who drops out of the top five? Could be Portland.

1:11
CamdenWarehouse: So Altuve’s the MVP?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Looks like it, but I guess we hate him?

1:13
Guest: Ken Rosenthal reported this morning that if the Cards get the right offer for Lynn he is gone, what might that package look like?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Rental starter, I like him, but lack of secondaries might make people think of him as a ‘get to the postseason back end starter and then sixth inning man’ type in another park or league. Bet he stays.

1:14
Brad: Will Blake Treinen get closer gig and run with it or fail like in DC?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Get and run.

1:14
dave in slc: do you expect normal madbum ros? giants out of it what is the possibility of him getting shut down? trying to decide whether to trade for him in al only

1:15
Eno Sarris: Velo is down but he’s still good. but weird to think of getting him in an AL only.

1:15
Andrew: GTL: gym, tan, LUDES

1:15
Zach: You are pretty high on Mazara long term.  Does his current inability to hit lefties dim the outlook for you at all?

1:15
Eno Sarris: A little but lefty splits in small samples… I’d look to the fact that he has a decent two-strike approach as evidence that he’ll be able to adjust to lefties eventually.

1:16
Rick C: Jim Johnson is signed through 2018

1:16
Eno Sarris: Yeah he’s definitely staying then.

1:16
Mighty johan: Jimmy Nelson a top 20 pitcher going forward?

1:16
Eno Sarris: I’d feel better saying 25/30.

1:16
Gub Gub: Is David Price a jerk?

1:19
Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t have liked to have been on any side of that situation. It’s fine to be critical of players, but instead of ‘yuck’ you can say something like, that’s obviously not what he was hoping for, let’s hope this thing he’s got is fixed, I spoke with him and he said he didn’t feel his change that day, but it’s been the xth-best changeup by whatever metric. Hey, that has information for the viewer, doesn’t treat the player as the punchline of a joke… don’t love how the Red Sox treated him when it comes to players or organization either though. I guess Price felt he needed to be publicly shamed for the public shame he put on the player, but I’d hope for a more private scolding if I was in the same situation. And I’ve been privately scolded.

1:19
Aaron: I know you wouldn’t necessarily want to, but why wouldn’t you want to work for an MLB team? Is it primarily family reasons and zero work/life balance?

1:20
Eno Sarris: I’ve been trying to uncover a role that doesn’t require 150+ days of travel a year and every evening devoted to the team and pays decently. I have a little more hope recently, but that’s a unicorn job.

1:21
Brad: Swydan said in his chat the baseball players are overgrown children in response to Price-Eck issue.  He said that you would not want to hang out with 99% of them.  99% seems real high.  What says you?

1:22
Eno Sarris: I’d revise that number down. I certainly agree that many are. But every clubhouse now has at least 1-3 players I’d legitimately like to have a beer with, maybe more. And that’s out of 30.

1:22
Hank Conger’s Sweet Robot Dance: I miss Hank Conger’s sweet robot dance

1:22
Eno Sarris: Me too.

1:22
CamdenWarehouse: So you think Buster is going to fall off a cliff soon?

1:23
Eno Sarris: No I just think he doesn’t have their type of power and they are in their prime.

1:24
Aaron: Early 2000’s it was Money all OBP. Then it was defense, shifts and framing with the Pirates and Rays leading the charge. Seems like now it’s exit velo/launch angle. What’s your theory on the next big market inefficiency teams will be able to (temporarily) exploit?

1:24
Eno Sarris: I’m hanging with development. That includes injury, but improving our best practices and finding unique solutions for each player in our own organization means we’ll have the breakouts from our own players instead of watching them go to another team and do it there.

1:26
Eno Sarris:

1:26
Dougy: Your favorite Treehouse beer is _____?   (I personally prefer Green)

1:27
Eno Sarris: Could be Lights On.

1:27
hscer: Any chance for 2018 saves from: Neshek Rosenthal Leclerc

1:27
Eno Sarris: Rosenthal.

1:27
Ragingtwig: Was listening to Johnny Cash’s God’s Gonna Cut You Down and remembered that it was Joe Beimel’s entry music when he was a Rockie. Sandman is great and all, but holy crap

1:28
Eno Sarris:

1:29
mario mendoza: speaking of ketel…. think he’ll get regular PT anytime soon?

1:29
Eno Sarris: Rather have him than Nick Ahmed.

1:29
CamdenWarehouse: Sounds like you just described Beltre Show, not ump show

1:30
Eno Sarris: I dunno man, it’s so obvious, who cares. Laugh. Laugh at yourself, laugh at him. Who needs to throw him out.

1:30
botchatheny: have you seen tyler o’neill’s dad?

1:30
Eno Sarris: Yah talked to him about that a bit. He’s yoked.

1:30
ChicagoCardinal: My wife and I were looking at old timey baseball names – she vetoed Old Hoss. What name should i suggest next – bonus points for gender neutral!

1:30
Eno Sarris: Yogi

1:31
Marty: Musgrove is already out. This would be between Fiers and Peacock.

1:32
Eno Sarris: Ah. That does make it interesting. They could include Peacock in a trade I guess. Fiers has been good. I guess Peacock could probably do his thing in the pen easier.

1:32
Tom: How do you respond to conflict of interest concerns between AB-InBev and October?

1:33
Eno Sarris: Put a disclaimer on every piece, describe the relationship on our About page, and shrug. Not a single person is telling me what to publish. Trevor Plouffe today spent some time bashing big beer in our QA that’s up now.

1:33
Hunky Dory: Flexen, Matz?? More like Flexor Mass, amirite?!

1:34
Guest: PDX: hair of the dog
Seattle: holy mountain

1:34
Eno Sarris: I want to like Hair more than I do. So many of their best beers are so huge with the alcohol that I can only have a thimble full.

1:34
Dan: After his antics last night, Bruce Rondon might be getting sent home again

1:34
Eno Sarris: Then it’s Shane Greene for sure. that’s a pickem anyway but they had been using Rondon ahead of Greene in tight games.

1:35
Fun Police: You buying Nick Williams long term? or time to sell high in a dynasty?

1:35
Eno Sarris: I think I might sell. Just no patience at all and he’s hitting more grounders than flies, and did in the minors.

1:36
A cat: BOS sent Owens to AA and lowered his arm slot, looking for control. Will that kill his change up?

1:36
Eno Sarris: It may, by making it too similar to his sinker, but his curve was pretty good and if he can improve a harder breaking ball he might be okay.

1:36
5 Run Homer: Just what the heck does “pitchability” even mean anyway? I have a vague idea but when I try and really describe it I come up short

1:37
Eno Sarris: i think of it as coachability. Think of Zack Greinke, Jake Odorizzi, guys that were drafted to be one thing and are now very different than they once were. Even the Shark is like that. He used to be 4s / splitter and all gas. Now he has a curve, a sinker, slider, cutter, doing his best.

1:37
Jim bob: Best brewery in VA? In several places for work next week…

1:38
Eno Sarris: I think Full Tilt is there maybe? And Hardywood of course.

1:38
Aaron: Was just at Storm in Vancouver! Really interesting place, great rec

1:38
Houzer: Lagunitas just bought Shorts. Please discuss

1:39
Eno Sarris: Heineken just bought Shorts?

1:39
Snarfle: Are you excited about Weaver? Or at least, I dunno, into having him on your teams? More importantly, I found a puzzle book from my childhood when I was back in Brooklyn, opened it to a random page and saw this lead in to a puzzle: “Mr. Telephonopolous entered the room and immediately changed the subject to telephones.”

1:39
Eno Sarris: Dude has plus command and could outdo the projections, definitely watching Weaver.

1:39
aaron pantsoff: eno, do you use spotify? i want to listen to your playlsits and pretend i have an afro

1:40
Eno Sarris: I am on there! You can yacht rock or reggae, but otherwise i mostly just skip through the big list.

1:41
Gus: Talk to me about Paul Blackburn? i no get it

1:42
Eno Sarris: nope me neither. could be a two-fastball two-breaker guy but he’s maybe two short in both departments.

1:42
A cat: Pickle chips

1:42
Shawn: If Eno Sarris is the answer, what is the question?

1:42
Shawn: Is craft beer “healthier” than macro beer?

1:42
Eno Sarris: no, less healthy: more calories.

1:43
DB: What brand of Sriracha Honey Mustard do you use and where do you buy it?

1:43
Eno Sarris: Make it .

1:43
Snarfle: Finally got to Citi. It feels new in a way I don’t find offensive. The fan hype up stuff is a little oppressive, but whatevs.

1:44
Eno Sarris: Yeah but sooner or later we’re going to look back on all these parks and say, really, we all had to do the Camden brick thing, like all at once?

1:44
Guest: LoMo or Domingo Santana?

1:44
Eno Sarris: DoSa

1:44
Murse Wigwam: Have you ever been to Belgium?   The locals drink a surprising amount of crappy beer, like Juplier

1:45
Eno Sarris: No but in London I drank Kronenburg and Staropramen so I can relate.

1:45
RotoLando: What pages do you have open in preparation for a chat?

1:45
Eno Sarris: Brooks Baseball, FanGraphs, Baseball Savant, Cots around this time of the year.

1:45
Babe Lincoln: Do you ever pick the wrong question and then realize afterwards that you have no answer for it?

1:45
NtFlxAndRichHill: You ever take your kiddos to concerts?

1:45
NtFlxAndRichHill: And what age did you start taking them?

1:46
Eno Sarris: Have taken them a few times with headphones on and they are 2 and 5 but might chill for a bit. They don’t love it as much as me and my wife, so why not make it the time we have for each other, and take them when they like it more.

1:46
Shuck Bowalter: The NY Post (I know, I know) just called Tebow a serious prospect. Journalism truly is dead.

1:46
Eno Sarris: There are so many reasons why not, all it takes is one phone call.

1:46
Marcus Banks: Luis Severino is the best pitcher in NYC.

1:46
Eno Sarris: How fast things change.

1:47
Rick C: Crawford’s inside the park HR was not a walk off, and the catcher was non-prospect David Freitas.  Alex Jackson is at A+.

1:47
Eno Sarris: Ah good on all acounts. Well not really, a walk off inside the park grand slam is pretty amazing.

1:47
Phil: The clutch variable in the WPA statistic… how stable is that from year to year? Is there any reason we should consider using WPA to determine players’ values over WAR?

1:47
Eno Sarris: Not very stable and no, although it does give relievers a slight boost.

1:49
Matt: I imagine Eno’s home office during chats to look something similar to Mission Control in Houston. What ya got, like 20 monitors opened up with various web pages? A big headset? Maybe a sweet white vest like Ed Harris and his guys wore in Apollo 13?

1:49
Eno Sarris: Three monitors, a mic, a lot of mess, and a beer fridge.

1:49
Eno Sarris: so basically ed harris with kenny g’s hair.

1:49
Saul Porer: Whattya think of that Paul Sporer guy you work with? Pretty cool, right? Seems hot and awesome and cool and fun and neat

1:49
Eno Sarris: Paul, that you?

1:50
Craig: Can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a piece on Stanton’s new batting stance? It’s awesome! His closed swing provides an insane amount of torque in the horizontal, pretty much opposite of Harper’s vertical.

1:51
Eno Sarris: I think he’s also got a two strike approach now.

1:51
Evan: Let’s ban Velcro batting gloves. Players fiddle with them between each swing. Guarantee it’ll speed up the game by AT LEAST 10 minutes.

1:51
Eno Sarris: I… I don’t think we got a lot of Nomars out there.

1:51
HappyFunBall: The difference between the BeltreShow and the UmpShow is that I paid to watch the players.

1:51
Johnny Appleseed: RE: Ragingtwig –> Cody allen has that as his entrance music. Electric

1:51
Hunky Dory: Re: Johnny Cash – that was Andrew Miller’s music with the Yankees!

1:51
Pete Reiser’s 3 legged dog: What is the best move for the future of the Mariners?  Fire sale now, “go for it” demolition of remaining farm, or just hang out and wait?

1:52
Eno Sarris: Go for it because that core is old.

1:52
Hank Conger’s Sweet Robot Dance:

1:52
Kosch: Do you go to the GAF in Denver?  I haven’t been in ages but I am going to try for tickets this year.

1:52
Eno Sarris: I should be there this year!

1:53
mike sixel: Having just moved to Portland a year ago, your thought that they are no longer top 5 in breweries is a bummer, but I have to generally agree. The scene is very safe and suffers from a sameness, imo. Sure, you have Cascade or others that don’t make the same 5 IPA and PA and falvorless porter/stout….but I am not as impressed as I’d hoped to be.

1:53
Eno Sarris: and there’s beer everywhere, your coffee shop brews beer, but… is it just beer?

1:54
HeeHaw: Why have you sworn off football. CTE concerns?

1:55
Eno Sarris: Time narrowing, didn’t get as much out of it, actually find the pace annoying, tons of down time as they figure out what happened on the last play, then there’s the head concerns, don’t want my kids to love the sport and then play it. Down to NBA and MLB with some soccer in the big tourneys and that’s about it for sports. MLB takes a lot of headspace!

1:55
Gub Gub: Have you ever seen anyone pull off a fantasy trade for Trout

1:56
Eno Sarris: I traded Judge and rentals for Trout this year in a keeper.

1:56
Tiny Rick: Can’t remember –  is there research out there that shows “visualizing” the outcome of a  mechanics or swing change might be better than coaching / working on a particular part of the whole? ( thinking about Cutch’s comments from your piece)

1:56
Eno Sarris: Yeah I think it might be linked in my Yonder piece from March. there is some evidence that ‘outcome cues’ like ‘hit the ball over the second baseman’ are more effective than ‘mechanical cues’ like ‘keep your hands low.’

1:57
Eno Sarris: Okay I gotta go! Thanks for hanging out!

I got the kerning joke due to a typography class I took when I in school for web design.
