Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 8/11/16

1:35
Eno Sarris: I’m going to be gone next week, no chat from me, and I’m going to:

12:00
El Borko: Hola Amigo!

12:01
Gary: What do you see from Benintendi in a keeper? Is he a 20-homer guy?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Yes! Probably no more than 10 stolen bases despite good speed though.

12:01
Matt: Thoughts on Eugenio Suarez – think he becomes a Jonathan Schoop-esque player or is this what he is?

12:02
Eno Sarris: I think there’s a bit more in there. More patience, maybe a better K%, better average, and he does steal bases! I like him.

12:02
Brack: I don’t know if you’ve seen much of Luke Weaver, but any thoughts rest-of-season? His K/BB’s in the minors were nuts, though I don’t know if that metric for success translates well when making the leap to the majors.

12:03
Eno Sarris: Good fastball, but I wasn’t as sure about the rest of the package. But command of a good fastball is a pretty good place to start, as is that park and that league. I think he’ll be useful/good even if not a star.

12:04
Zonk: Every time we write off Jorge Soler, he comes back and starts hitting again. Are you a believer? Do you think he needs to get out of Chicago and find consistent playing time or a DH spot?

12:04
Eno Sarris: The defense isn’t good, but this work (plus perhaps a bit more power) is what I saw for him… if he did it over 600 PA, we’d have a .260/25 type guy with a decent OBP. I’d be calling them.

12:05
Frank: Can you give Mets fans a reason to be optimistic for the rest of the season? It’s been a rough few weeks.

12:05
Eno Sarris: Cespedes should be back soon and maybe Wheeler can help?

12:05
SlumDog: Do you map out a pitcher’s ROS schedule when considering trading for him?

12:05
Eno Sarris: At this point, yes, especially if it’s not an ace.

12:06
Kobe: Eno, how many closers is too many? I currently have a staff with 6 closers and a rotation or Grienke Lester Darvish Matz Musgrove and a streamer spot. I have tried to trade closers for SP but no bites. Am I Gucci?

12:07
Eno Sarris: If you have a guy like Tony Cingrani, those guys are actually by straight value below replacement sometimes. The rest of the line can weigh down the value of the steals. I would drop one probably, if one of them was bad.

12:07
Sean P : It’s strange to see Tommy La Stella act like such an idiot and put his career in jeopardy. Just out of curiosity, if La Stella played full time at second, would he be an above average MLB player?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Remember Ricky Davis? Andre Agassi? Not every athlete really loves playing his sport. I didn’t love editing children’s books, so I stopped doing it. If that’s what’s going on, it’s not crazy at all. And I could see a guy like that, who’s shown league-worthy skills (despite stone hands that might drop him from above average) being annoyed that he’s being demoted just because he has options left.

12:09
Is BORK Elite?: Is BORK from Ottawa? Something he said made me think we might be neighbors

12:09
Eno Sarris: That would be amazing.

12:10
Boberto: Hi what are your thoughts on Musgrove? Still being cautious or buying as many shares as possible?

12:10
Eno Sarris: I’d buy but sit against Toronto just because Toronto.

12:10
GarzaGifs: Any chance Javier Baez can win a Gold Glove? He seems to make a highlight real play every night. The problem is, he does it from 3 different positions, which isn’t how the Gold Glove system is setup.

12:10
Eno Sarris: that will definitely hurt him. He should play more LF and get in that shallow pool.

12:10
Mystery Team: Can you please comment on Tebows reported 80 grade character grade? Does this push him to the top 100 for you?

12:10
Is BORK Elite?: Will Tebow have more WAR than my dog?

12:11
bombsquad rabbi: BEER BEER BEER BASEBALL BASEBALL BEES OH GOD NO BEEEEEEES

12:11
Eno Sarris: this has been your Teebow interlude, this will conclude all Tebow questions.

12:12
Kyle: Please name some guys you’d keep/wouldn’t keep Murphy over

12:13
Eno Sarris: Not: Altuve, Trout, Donaldson, Betts, Bryant, Rizzo, Arenado, Goldschmidt, Marte.

12:13
Jack C.: I saw a tweet today that Freddie Freeman is on pace for 30 HR and 68 RBI, placing him 5th amongst players with the fewest RBI in a 30+ HR season. I immediately checked out Freeman’s splits and saw he is batting .213 with RISP this season. Yuck. However, his OBP is .390!!!! Is this just the classic example of pitchers working around a team’s best hitter and focusing on the other hitters in Atlanta’s awful lineup?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Classic case of crappy team.

12:14
Thom: I own Bumgarner in a keeper league. I’m more than likely not going to make the playoffs was offered Kershaw for him. Even if Kershaw doesn’t return would it be wise? And how close are those two as far as value when healthy. Thanks

12:14
Eno Sarris: Rather have Kershaw next year.

12:14
Dan: ROS outlook for R.Hill and Salazar. they were dropped in my 10 team roto.

12:14
Eno Sarris: Hill’s just a blister, I would go for it.

12:15
Merv Throneberry: Devenski starts today….boo-yah!

12:15
Eno Sarris: Biggest differential between fastball velo and changeup velo among starters.

12:15
Guy Guy Dick: please rank Darvish Lester and Greinke for next year

12:15
Eno Sarris: Darvish Greinke Lester

12:16
dock ellis: my citra or my shitra?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Obviously citra, it’s tastes like melon.

12:16
Barnard: Would you believe me if I told you Ichiro only hit one HR to the opposite field in his entire MLB career?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Yes because I saw the spray chart!

12:16
Marty: Heading to Portland, ME next week. Any good suggestions, breweries or otherwise?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Bissell Brothers, Maine Beer Co.

12:16
dock ellis: please estimate your emotional age

12:16
Eno Sarris: 19

12:17
JD15: Why would Joe Girardi say he would play ARod as much as he wanted until Friday when he didn’t have the intention to? Saying “I’m not responsible for farewell tours” is garbage considering when they were actually contenders he hit Jeter 2 pretty much every game.

12:17
Eno Sarris: Maybe Girardi doesn’t like A-Rod.

12:17
JD15: Who is a worse manager: Collins or Matheny?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Collins.

12:17
SadPressConferences: Cruising in first with 112/120 roto points. Just acquired Murphy to make a run at BA! Wish me luck1

12:18
Eno Sarris: GET THAT 120

12:19
mike sixel: going to Bend this weekend….other than Crux, where would you go, and, I have a minor with me (though that does not appear to be as big an issue in OR as it was in MN)?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Boneyard!

12:19
Art Vandelay:

12:19
Eno Sarris: That was a sad press conference.

12:19
Art Vandelay:

12:20
Eno Sarris: Still doesn’t like it. But is sad. Poignant.

12:20
Stenzy: Odds that Christian Arroyo is starting 3b and Mac Williamson is starting LF next year for Giants? They will need to spend money on that bullpen.

12:20
Eno Sarris: Better that Arroyo/vet Fill-in is the starter than Williamson starts in OF because there’s always a cheap OF.

12:20
Josh: yea!!!! It’s Eno!!! Would losing Strop be huge loss for Chicago or just a depth thing at this point (i.e. as long as no more injuries they shouldn’t be affected)…

12:20
Eno Sarris: Carl Edwards is so sexy.

12:21
Ron: What are your feelings about the future of the Yanks? Strong farm and reduced payroll in near future sound exciting/devastating

12:21
Eno Sarris: Quite the quick turnaround. I think they’ve actually been a model for a big market team. At least this year, they accelerated the rebuild quickly with a few good decisions.

12:22
Matt: Jose Ramirez. Next year, he’ll have 2B, 3B and OF eligibility – assuming he plays one more game at 2B. If he plays 5 more at SS he’ll retain that. Good bench peice moving forward next season, or can I look at him to start somewhere?

12:23
Eno Sarris: He should start at third, which makes him a decent top-15 second baseman I would bet. Pretty good player.

12:23
Tommy B: I saw you post a picture of Carl Edwards Jr.’s grip last night, any fun insight from your conversation with him? His stats in a limited sample are ridiculous.

12:24
Eno Sarris: Maybe I’ll write up our chat as a short thing today, but there wasn’t a ton there. He didn’t know how he got that strange cut-like movement on his fastball.

12:24
Bub: How long does Maine Beer stay fresh? I’ve had a Lunch sitting in my fridge for a couple weeks trying to find the right time to drink it….

12:24
Eno Sarris: Drink it! You want to have IPAs in the first two months.

12:25
R+L=J: Thoughts on Gary Sanchez for next season?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Hope he’s listed as a catcher!

12:25
SadPressConferences?: Any lefty vs. Mets seems like a good start, no? See Ray yesterday

12:26
Eno Sarris: Right now it’s pretty much anyone vs the Mets.

12:26
Keith Hernandez’s Moustache: Hey Eno! Chatted with you briefly during the Broken Social Scene set at Pitchfork a few weeks back. Should the Mets grab Gomez? Seems like a fun addition to the land of misfit corner outfielders. He must be better than De Aza right? Also…pennant race be damned, Conforto should play everyday right?

12:27
Eno Sarris: What’s up! I *think* the NL gets second chance at a guy on waivers in the AL so I doubt the Mets get him, plus they probably still think he’s hurt. But yeah, I’d run him out there over de Aza.

12:27
Pitchers: Rank these SP for ROS please: Musgrove, Graveman, Thompson, T. Anderson, Berrios

12:27
Eno Sarris: Musgrove, Anderson, Berrios, Graveman.

12:28
Mike: How do Pipeworks IPAs (Ninja v. Unicorn, Sure Bet, Square Grouper, etc.) stack up against the big boys in Vermont?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Right there.

12:28
kj: should i be trying to sell Duvall or do I keep riding the wave in my 12 team 40 man roster dynastyleague, cut 8

12:28
Eno Sarris: Batting average league? Keep. I have him in a 20-team OBP league where I considered shopping him, but I”m going to keep, too.

12:28
Rick Roll: How do I get my kids on the fast track to major league success? they are currently 2 and 4.

12:29
Eno Sarris: Tie their right hands behind their backs. (I haven’t done it to mine, they can be what they want, but I did think about it.)

12:29
Philly: Thoughts on Aaron Altherr?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Good start vs righties despite reverse platoon split because reverse platoon splits are unbelievable.

12:29
Alex from The Bronx: Will I be changing my location after this Friday?

12:30
Eno Sarris: No, I bet he gets Barry Bondsed.

12:30
brant brown dropped the ball: what did you think about the m’s trade for your boy caminero? are you as shocked as i am that he got through the entire national league on waivers? he makes $500k, throws 100+, has had a “closer of the future” vibe for a while, has looked much better of late, and isn’t arb-eligible till 2018. no one in the entire league had room to option someone else down to aaa and take a shot?

12:30
Eno Sarris: I was very surprised by this. I suppose some contenders with better records would have taken him, maybe.

12:30
JD15: La Stella thought about retiring before the year and he resisted so he could play with the Chicago Cubs not Iowa or another team. Clearly personal stuff going on so a little rough to call him an idiot.

12:31
Eno Sarris: Yeah, personal stuff, or maybe baseball’s not for him.

12:31
Dan: Why when I go to depth charts do they not accurately reflect WAR numbers throughout the season? Example: http://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=ALL&teamid=17 Bryant has 1.7 total WAR, but 5.7 on his player page.

12:31
Eno Sarris: Depth charts are rest of season projections.

12:31
SadPressConferences?: What do you think about Mazara straight platooning now that Beltran has been acquired? Isn’t that going to stunt his growth as a player?

12:32
Eno Sarris: I like him a ton and think he’ll be fine.

12:32
Dan: Sit C.Mart today in a 10 team roto?

12:32
Eno Sarris: No.

12:32
Chris: How weird is it that JA Happ is a legitimate Cy Young contender?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Very weird. It’s basically all fastballs if you call his cutter a fastball. But each fastball has distinct, interesting movement, and he has good command.

12:33
SadPressConferences?: I’m discovering that all beers I like the most have citrus. What are the best beyond Deschutes Fresh Squeeze?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Grapefruit/Pineapple Sculpin, Elysian Superfuzz, Lagunitas Sucks, Brew Kettle White Rajah, Zombie Dust, Nugget Nectar, Uinta Hop Notch/

12:35
Steve: Why is everyone treating the Blue Jays like the best offense? Red Sox have 50+ more runs than them on the year and the Jays are 16th in runs the last 30 days so it’s not like they’re much better recently

12:36
Eno Sarris: Yes the Red Sox are amazing. The Blue Jays are second in runs in the American League, and have the potential, especially at home, to put up huge numbers any night.

12:36
Rick: Barraclough or Addison Reed?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Bearclaw if you looking for saves.

12:36
Eno Sarris:

12:37
Bork: I live in a town an hour southwest of Ottawa but lived in Ottawa for a few years while I went to school at uOttawa.

12:37
Eno Sarris: wait wait

12:37
Miketron: Do you think baseball would ever allow someone with a robot appendage play? I mean a pitcher with a robot arm would be pretty sweet right?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Take the steroids conversation and turn it up to 11.

12:38
Cubbies: Now that Matt Duffy is off the DL do you think he’ll have a tough time adjusting to the new league? And what do you expect from him in 2017?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Actually, he told me that he always got pitched differently by teams that were not in his division, so I could see him starting out well.

12:39
Dungeon Master: Eickhoff gonna keep this up enough? Worth keeping for cheap if I have to lock him up for multiple years?

12:39
Eno Sarris: I rarely sign pitchers to contracts. He’s okay!

12:40
Closers: Who is your favorite non big name closer?

12:40
Eno Sarris: Diaz?

12:40
Rasta: I know you’re high on Fulmer but do you see him as a $10 keeper in a 12 tm keep 6 league?

12:40
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:40
SadPressConferences?: Where does Carlos Gomez get drafted next year? Also, Ian Desmond?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Late rounds. Like Bench rounds for Go Go. He probably burned half of fantasy. Desmond should be a second/third rounder, but I may not end up with him because I find his batting average riskier than some might.

12:41
John: For real tho….thoughts on John Jaso’s hair

12:42
Eno Sarris: My hot take: it’s fine. I live in Northern California. I’m used to white boy dreads. Plus, I like interesting and different.

12:43
JR: In a dynasty league, I ended up with too many closers. Which ones would you try to trade: KHerrera, EDiaz, SDyson, TWatson, CAllen? Holds is also a category.

12:43
Eno Sarris: As much as I like Dyson, he has the worst K rate of the crew.

12:43
Steve: Is a big diff in fastball and changeup velocity necessarily a good thing?

12:43
Eno Sarris: After movement, it’s the second-most important facet of a changeup if you want whiffs.

12:43
Billy Beane: Jharel Cotton was one out away from a perfect game in his last AAA start, yet Ross Detwiler is in the A’s rotation. This is because…?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Wins right now don’t mean much to the A’s.

12:44
Rick Roll: I’m pretty sure there can be a thing as too much changeup differential. Eventually it becomes less convincing as a fastball.

12:44
Eno Sarris: I’ll plot this. Oh, that’s a piece for today! Thanks.

12:45
Guest: Pitcher you were most excited to interview and pitcher you were most surprised by something they told you about their pitching and what it was

12:45
Eno Sarris: Adrian Beltre telling me that looking for high fastballs made him a better hitter against breaking balls low and away.

12:46
Jack C.: Is this the Tim Anderson that we are going to see for the rest of his career? An OBP that will float around .300, limited power, plus glove, maybe a 2 WAR player?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Yes. I would guess the hope comes from contact rate improvements and perhaps some power growth, into league-average type.

12:46
JR: What do you think of Daniel Mengden? Enough stuff to be viable in a mixed league next year?

12:47
Eno Sarris: only if he comes up and throws better out of the stretch and keeps the walks down, and even then as a bench piece you like because of home park and some interesting stuff.

12:47
arbutus: Who do you think will put up better numbers Manaea vs. sea OR Folty vs. wsh?

12:47
Eno Sarris: Manaea.

12:47
kvothe: What pitch combination plays better for a starter: 2 plus pitches and one average pitch, or 4 pitches in the average-above average range?

12:47
Eno Sarris: Given average command, the first one. Given plus command, the second one. This is not backed by research.

12:47
Bork: Barry Bonds got thrown out for the first time as 1B coach for arguing balls and strikes. Based on his history, the umps really should take his word on if a ball is a ball right?

12:48
Eno Sarris: That strike zone was super bad.

12:48
Reginald Denton III: Keep Murphy over Harper???

12:48
Eno Sarris: Oh I forgot Harper. Was looking at player rater.

12:49
Eno Sarris:

12:49
Dan: I want to buy low on Bryce Harper in a dynasty league…. Should I offer Gurriel, Gallo AND Hosmer or is that too much?

12:49
Eno Sarris: I’d offer that.

12:50
Avi: Eno! Is Harper’s neck injury a bigger deal than DTD? I’ve heard rumors of a DL Stint but it almost sounds like he may be gone for a long time and it’s time to consider selling if you have him.

12:50
Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t sell. Generational talent.

12:51
Jim Thumb-E: am I wrong to be very nervous about Marte’s long term outlook? Most HBPs coupled with his aggressive slides into second and I think he’s a bad break away from missing a whole/most of a season.

12:51
Eno Sarris: There is a decent amount of risk there!

12:51
dril: the wise man bowed his head solemnly and spoke: “theres actually zero difference between good & bad things. you imbecile. you total moron”

12:51
Whats that Odor: Just think of all the ludes that the illudeinati are stopping everyday

12:51
Beer: Makes you fat.

12:51
Eno Sarris: what a depressing lude.

12:51
Q-Ball: Didn’t know you were in Wrigley! Enjoy it? What’s your take vs. other stadiums/venues?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Love the look and feel. Hate the food, beer, and facilities.

12:52
Rick Roll: best unowned set RP for holds?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Tazawa, Carl Edwards, Knebel, Pressly, Withrow, Buchter, Kelley.

12:54
rustydude: At the end of my roster, I have some platoon guys: Pearce, Naquin and Benintendi. As a RH hitter, is Pearce the least of these 3 in playing time?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:54
Pete: Thoughts on Kepler’s long term prospects?

12:55
Eno Sarris: I think the power will drop off the rest of this year and he’ll grow into his power stroke going forward.

12:55
Lil Bub: How on earth can TC actually hit Ty Kelly second and play him over Conforto? That lineup is a mess and half and it’s embarrassing

12:55
Eno Sarris: Never was a Collins fan.

12:55
ShakeYourTushieHasegawa: When reading the DEF column, let’s say for CF, since the positional adjustment is 2.5, does that mean at the beginning of the season all CF start at 2.5?

12:55
Eno Sarris: They’ll start with 0% of 2.5.

12:56
Seth: consecration or supplication?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Like choosing between my sons.

12:56
Josh: What are your thoughts on Altherr ROS? Would you add him over Saunders in a 12 teamer? Saunders has been brutal since the AS break, but that lineup…

12:56
Eno Sarris: No, I think Altherr is over his head against righties.

12:56
AG: How likely is it that Wil Myers has officially broken out, or this is just the aberration?

12:56
Eno Sarris: I don’t believe the steals and the health is still a question mark in future years.

12:56
Eno Sarris: But I believe the bat as it is now.

12:58
forever it: Buying any Rob Whalen shares based on first two starts?

12:58
Eno Sarris: Bad fastball and only 6% on the changeup… not really.

12:58
Bork: From the day Bork Jr is born I will tie his right hand behind his back. I’ll let you know how it goes.

12:58
Eno Sarris: I foresee lots of crying.

12:59
KD: should i trade starling marte for bryce harper in a keeper league?

12:59
Eno Sarris: yes but at this point you can even ask for a sweetener.

12:59
Erik: Does a rotation of Nola/Velasquez/Eickhoff/Thompson/Eflin look pretty close to a classic 1/2/3/4/5 to you? Or do the Phillies need another frontline starter to compete?

1:00
Eno Sarris: As much as I love Nola it might be a 2/2/3/5/7.

1:01
Reginald Denton III: How in the world was someone lucky enough to run into you at a BSS set at P4k festival? So jealous…

1:02
Eno Sarris: I actually watched a few sets alone and ran into some people. Had never done that before, and it was okay! I got to see exactly as much of each set as I wanted. Shamir, Anderson Paak, Twin Peaks, Royal Headache were great. Digable Planets disappointed, Beach House and Brian Wilson were terrible.

1:02
Bar Rescue is a good show: Blue Moon forever

1:02
Eno Sarris: Bar Rescue is fun but there’s a lot of yelling

1:03
2-D: Raisel said closing is what he wanted to do the entire time, was there ever a time where being the closer was as cool as it is now?

1:03
Eno Sarris: He was a reliever before coming over, and he’ll be a great closer.

1:04
Avi: Is the Bryce Harper injury news extremely significant for his future or a non-factor?

1:04
Eno Sarris: I think it could be good news if it explains his year.

1:04
Big Joe Monferrant: an hour southwest of Ottawa? Kemptville?

1:04
Eno Sarris: let’s play matchmaker.

1:05
Kerry: Has there ever been a beer for polarizing that Lagunitas Sucks? Some people champion it as best beer of all, and some call it a malty mess and speculate the recipe’s been changed over time. Me, I’m in the latter camp…

1:05
Eno Sarris: I do think Sucks has changed, and Lagunitas has always had a strong malt backbone. I like it but don’t buy it as much these days.

1:05
Billy Beane: So you think Khris Davis will ever learn to take a walk here and there? He’s got ridiculous power but he’s barely an above average hitter with his OBP skills (or lack thereof).

1:06
Eno Sarris: Yes he will walk again.

1:06
ChicagoCardinal: Eno – nice talking to you at The Rocking Horse – hope you enjoyed Chicago. ROS 5×5 – Can you rank Pomeranz, Shoemaker, Jaime Garcia, Desclafani and Matt Moore?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Shoemaker Desclafani Moore Pomeranz

1:07
Andrew: I know you like Joe Ross. Any concerns about this shoulder problem?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Yes, I’m frigging pissed. Sucks.

1:07
Tom: Jameson Taillon has a 104:12 K/BB ratio this year, AAA and MLB combined. What round he getting drafted next year? He a legit #2?

1:08
Eno Sarris: Other than injury, a guy with his command, good Ks, and 55% GBS would be super high floor.

1:08
SadPressConferences: When does a FAAB dollar become worthless and you should just spend frivolously?

1:08
Eno Sarris: About now.

1:08
Sonny: Don’t hate on Ras John

1:08
Humboldt Hero: I currently live near John Jaso’s hometown of McKinleyville CA. White guys dreads are super common here and their popularity doesn’t make them less gross.

1:09
Eno Sarris: I mean, have you touched many? I think people have this idea that dreads come from not washing. That’s incorrect. Some dreads are unclean, but you don’t need to be unclean to make hair dread.

1:09
ChicagoCardinal: Re:Jaso: Was he the inspiration for Dexl Spivey in True Romance or vice versa?

1:09
Eno Sarris: God I love that movie.

1:10
Eno Sarris:

1:10
pirates hurdles: Caminero’s fastball sucks, it is crazy flat and he refuses to throw it inside. 99 out and over the plate isn’t all that hard to crush. He was never close to having a high leverage role on Pitt and justifiably so.

1:11
Eno Sarris: Yeah I’ve stepped off the gas on him. His splitter, he doesn’t throw it enough or have enough overall command to be one of those 40/40 fastball/splitter guys either.

1:11
Bork: We need more ludes. Serious lack of ludes in this chat today.

1:11
2-D: CURRENT LUDE LEVELS= DANGEROUSLY LOW

1:11
Seabass: How many rabbits fit in a hat? Six hahahahahaa

1:11
Eno Sarris: Wow we’re scraping the bottom of the lude barrel here.

1:12
Seth: nola a keeper next year at $11? peraza/mallex smith at $7 each? $260 cap, 16 teamer, standard 5×5

1:13
Eno Sarris: Nola and Smith… Peraza you’ll have to watch.

1:13
Elton: What’s your favorite beer from Chicago?

1:13
Eno Sarris: Ninja vs Unicorn. I love Half Acre but there’s more going on in NvU.

1:13
Zwibi: ENOOOOO. Our boy Ottavino is back closing! Hope we get more than 10 innings in the role this time. What do you think we can expect from him?

1:13
Eno Sarris: He’s really good but is that pen good enough to get the save opps to him?

1:15
Jack: Who’s the best of these three: Mark Wohlers, Rick Ankiel or Steve Blass?

1:15
Eno Sarris: Ankiel had that second mini-career so him!

1:15
Jeff: FWIW re Marte he had his hamate bone removed in the minors so the HBP risk is a bit reduced for him.

1:15
Eno Sarris: He’s got another one though!

1:15
Dungeon Master: Will Raisel Iglesias be a starter ever again? Nasty stuff but no value in non holds leagues!

1:15
Eno Sarris: might be the closer now.

1:15
Big Joe Monferrant: .358/.464/.679 1.143… Shohei Otani is putting up better numbers than Hideki and Ichiro ever did…

1:15
Eno Sarris: And pitching really well!

1:16
ChicagoCardinal: Re:Wrigley: worse beer/food than any top-level professional venue

1:16
Eno Sarris: Yankee Stadium gives it a run for the money.

1:16
Steve From Virginia: I’m hoping to have an audience with you if you’d be so kind. I’m about to get my suction cups out and climb to the top of your building

1:16
Eno Sarris: Good luck on a one-floor stucco building. You could just roll the garage door open and there I am.

1:16
Elton: Are you as excited as I am about Jabari Blash? (that is to say, mildly)

1:17
Eno Sarris: Dude misses the ball in batting practice though.

1:17
Zwibi: Any chance Shane Greene could slide into the closer role. While he hasnt been pitching late innings, its not like the guys in front of him are all that great….

1:17
Eno Sarris: Eventually. Sorta doubt this year, but that does seem where he’s headed.

1:17
daneyko: Hunter Pence almost a platoon or he needs time after a long DL ?

1:17
Eno Sarris: He’ll get it together.

1:18
carl: Jake Barrett is walking everyone in AZ. Who is next?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Burgos I guess.

1:18
SadPressConferences: Where did all of Carl Edwards’ walks go? 6 BB/9 in minors. Is it just coaching?

1:19
Eno Sarris: Sometimes when a guy transitions to starting, he either stops throwing a pitch he can’t command, or he can keep his body parts in the right place if it’s just for an inning.

1:19
YouthBerry: Thoughts on a Jose De Leon of the Dodgers organization callup this year? Are you high on him like Katoh is?

1:20
Eno Sarris: I can’t believe he hasn’t been up yet! If this Hill thing keeps going…

1:20
Dave: I stopped drinking Elysian beers (they’re local to me) when they sold to Anheuser-Busch. Am I being silly?

1:20
Eno Sarris: It’s a defensible stance. I mostly avoid AIB. But I like good beer and Elysian makes some good beer still. Probably best of the set AIB bought.

1:21
SadPressConferences: Who are Matt Strahm and Grant Dayton and what are they doing on the K-BB% leaderboard for last 14 days?

1:22
Eno Sarris: Read Sullivan’s piece on Dayton. Just another high spin rate riding fastball Dodger!

1:22
Rick Roll: but throwing rh can be an advantage for MI where you don’t have to hit that well

1:22
Eno Sarris: To get a spot on the roster, sure. But the LOOGY lives forever.

1:23
Rick Roll: Did you have any beer phases, and now you be like, I don’t like that beer anymore

1:23
Eno Sarris: Some of the maltier bigger west coast IPAs I don’t dig on as much — Firestone Walker Double Jack and Green Flash West Coast IPA used to be my jams, but I haven’t bought either in months.

1:23
gentry: We’ve seen things click for a few young pitchers this year after initial hiccups. What has Manaea done that has turned his season around? I was just looking at his game by game pitch selection and nothing stands out there.

1:24
Eno Sarris: He changed his grip on the changeup to the FOSH he used in college, and his slider is finally getting a little harder, which he told me he wanted from it.

1:24
jon: Mike Trout vs Cubs, 2016: 1/12, 1 1B, 1 SB, 7 K.

1:24
Eno Sarris: HE’S A BUM

1:27
AJ: Kennys Vargas seems to have a great eye and power: why no burn in MIN?

1:27
Eno Sarris: The eye goes in and out and no position, I gues.

1:28
CCTV: lude spelled backwards is edul. WAKE UP SHEEPLE

1:28
Eno Sarris: Woke backwards is EKOW! EKOW!

1:29
Don’t be so shy: By Imany (remix version) give a listen! Sounds like they sampled Megaman in the beat

1:29
Eno Sarris: this one? I think you might be right.

1:30
Guest: I’m looking for a go-to stout I can find anywhere on the East coast. Any recommendation?

1:30
Eno Sarris: Old Rasputin?

1:30
Steve: Do the writers have to take turns watching over Carson? What day is your day?

1:30
Eno Sarris: Actually he holds me when I need holding.

1:31
JR: You want the ludes? You can’t handle the ludes!

1:31
CamdenWarehouse: Elwood: What kind of music do you usually have here?
Claire: Oh, we got both kinds. We got country *and* western.

1:32
JR: A lude saved is a lude earned.

1:32
Avi: Is the problem in New York TC, Owners or general atmosphere? This team is falling apart so quickly.

1:33
Eno Sarris: Bad lineup depth, lack of positional prospects to create that lineup depth, poor lineup decisions.. maybe some poor roster decisions.

1:34
ich bin durstig: Hey Eno! I’m heading to German in a couple weeks – can you recommend a beer tour or a few breweries to check out? Thanks!

1:34
Eno Sarris: I can’t, it’s been so long since I lived there. Maybe @ohkiv can!

1:34
Eno’s Evil Twin: INTERLUDE: ALTUVE DID IT AGAIN! ALSO HOW DO I GET PAID FOR BEER AND BASEBALL! TEACH ME!

1:35
Eno Sarris: All I did was write a ton and get lucky so it’s hard for me to give advice. I know the thing is ‘find a niche’ but I wrote for a while and was good enough to take jobs in the niches that people offered. I say, write, say yes to whatever as long as you can, then start strategically saying no.

1:35
Dude: This is a nude dude’s rude & crude lude, full of mood and attitude, eating food, jamming Darude.

1:35
Rick Roll: can’t amateur pitcher abuse be dealt with? pushback?

1:36
Eno Sarris: The parents are the problem. They want their kids to be pros. So they push them, and even push the coaches to ignore the guidelines.

1:36
Brian: I … killed a man today. In which stadium would it be easiest to hide the body?

1:36
Eno Sarris: The coliseum, under the covered seats.

1:36
SadPressConferences: What is gonna happen with Puig?

1:37
Eno Sarris: Someone will take a shot, and I could actually see a few more good seasons from him. I wouldn’t write him off completely.

1:37
patrick: What pitch you’ve seen has the most surprising action given the grip?

1:38
Eno Sarris: Zach Britton’s cutter grip power sinker.

1:38
LudeBurger: OH GAWD I’M SOLARTE. MASTER BORK PLZ FORGIVE ME #teamBORK

1:38
TP for my Jung Ho: Have you ever tried to write a note to someone on Charmin? It’s crap paper.

1:38
Renard: racecar

1:38
Toki: Arboc backwrods is Cobra and Ekans backwords is snake lol

1:38
SadPressConferences: Lude backwards is eDUL as in electronically dull?

1:38
Eno Sarris: YOUR electronically dull.

1:39
o: Who’s the funniest player you’ve talked to?

1:39
Eno Sarris: Brian Dozier is pretty funny. I think Sam Fuld is pretty funny. Zack Greinke is hilarious but not intentionally. Brandon McCarthy is funny.

1:40
Jocust: Come on pimp yo e-book

1:40
Eno Sarris: BOOM www.beergraphs.com/book go get it and drink right

1:40
Avi: In addition, I sort of feel the Mets broke Conforto completely and he won’t do much anymore. Now they can’t buy a hit if it cost a penny.

1:40
Eno Sarris: I think Conforto will be fine.

1:40
Sirras One: What percentage of chat questions do you answer?

1:40
Eno Sarris: 7-10%

1:40
Boston: I was in town for pearl jam last week and managed to get 3 types of Trillium, 3 types of Singlecut, Boom Sauce, and Hobo Life, and a 6 of Riverwalk IPA. How’d I do?

1:40
Eno Sarris: Well. Very well.

1:41
dock ellis: top 3 hop varietals, ranked:

1:41
Eno Sarris: Citra Galaxy Mosaic

1:41
Dr. Met: Stream anyone with average speed or better vs. the Mets right now. Dbacks have stolen almost half the bases Mets have all year in just 3 games

1:41
Eno Sarris: You steal bases on the pitcher!

1:41
LudeBurger: When you hear the term “blast loading,” what is the first thing you think of?

1:41
Eno Sarris: That thing when you’re running to the toilet.

1:42
Nelson: Bellwoods brewery is all you need to know for Toronto. Not great for a meetup, but go on your own, or just get bottles for take-out

1:42
Eno Sarris: Wednesday, September 7, I will be there, probably by myself. Around 8:30.

1:42
Toki: I took a dump in the neighbor’s yard as a kid and blamed my brother for it. He still has no idea it was me. Gonna drop it on him at his 30th b-day party.

1:43
Eno Sarris: Well that’s a great note to end on.

1:43
Eno Sarris: Thanks for hanging out, people!
