Mike Trout has the longest dinger in 2014 per Hittracker. Wow.

12:00
Eno Sarris: I prefer dongers.

12:01
Comment From Kris
I’ve got Big Fern, Tanaka, and now Tulo on my bench (only one DL spot). Is it still worth rostering guys like McCarthy and running a platoon of Norris/Jaso at C, or has my replacement level gone down with the decrease of bench spots?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Tanaka may come back, so if you’re asking if you should drop anyone, my answer is no. You do need innings and PAs, so I think you’re doing fine.

12:02
Comment From Bobby Blownilla
Got any good suggestions for a Scotch Wallace beer? Thanks!

12:02
Eno Sarris: Like these? Don’t know what a wallace is. http://www.beergraphs.com/l…

12:02
Comment From William
what would you do with the Cubs infield logjam of Castro, Baez, Russell, and Bryant. I’d wait until the next deadline and decide between trading Castro or Baez, then call up Russell.

12:04
Eno Sarris: Yah I’m skeptical that Bryant is a third baseman, so it may be Bryant in COF, Alcantara at second and Baez at third. But one of the three should bust, by the numbers (at least), so Russell is a great insurance policy. May not have to trade any of them if you buy one good pitching FA and the rest of your 2/3s work out.

12:04
Comment From Bobby Blownilla
Need some advice. 10 team roto 5×5. I’m in first by 9.5 points and the guy is second is creeping up on me (mostly since he’s catching other people, not me). My best category in pitching is Ks. 100+K lead on the next guys. 6 man rotation with starts limit.

I have Strasburg and am getting frustrated. Since I don’t need the Ks, do I shift to a safer play like Tanner Roark?

12:04
Eno Sarris: No. I love what Strasburg is doing on K-BB and I htink I’d hold on to that.

12:04
Comment From Curious George
Hi Eno. Hope you’re having a stellar week. This is a somewhat broad question, but I’m hoping you can provide some feedback. When you find yourself in mid-August with the chance to win a fantasy league, do you go all in? What I really mean by that is will you make trades that help your team slightly, even if you’re giving up a boatload of future assets in return? How do you draw the line between improving and getting fleeced? Thanks so much for the input.

12:05
Eno Sarris: I do trade pieces, but for example, I do try to hold on to my best young prospect (Seager, Russell in a lot of cases) and trade all the guys around it. Because fantasy is all about that ceiling. Productive major leaguers are often not productive fantasy players.

12:05
Comment From Ned Yost
Nori Aoki has been great since coming off the DL. Is this possibly a case where a few weeks of rest has simply reinvigorated a player?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Well his athleticism was lagging and so maybe health helps him there. And he should have gotten used to the league by now, so maybe some of that is happening. But he’s not a great player at .280/7/25 or so.

12:06
Comment From Brad
veto question. Should a team eliminated from playoffs in redraft league be able to make a trade?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Of course. Or they might as well go away.

12:07
Eno Sarris: Well. Okay let me rephrase. You should change your rules so that the eliminated have something to gain from trading, or you just eliminate teams from playing the game.

12:07
Comment From Allen Craig
You spoke highly of me in one of your recent podcasts. Can you tell me more as to why, and what we can look forward to from me in 2015?

12:07
Eno Sarris: I said you could .280/18 but that you were post-peak and not spry of foot, and now getting injured more. That doesn’t strike me as speaking very highly of you!

12:07
Comment From Pork Sale
Is Mike Fiers stream worthy? Has he found it in the minors or is he a quad A guy?

12:08
Eno Sarris: That fastball means he’s always going to have homer issues and be a better spot starter in pitcher’s parks, IMO.

12:08
Comment From Double Simcoe
Sonny Gray for Jose Reyes a fair trade? I have Alcides but I’m worried that he’ll fall off hard.

12:09
Eno Sarris: It’s okay. I think the SBs are falling off hard for Jose as they do for everyone, but you’re right that Alcides’ floor is real low.

12:09
Comment From Red Sox Fan
Who’s playing centre for the Red Sox come opening day next season, and why?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Betts because he’s athletic, can learn the position, and doesn’t have the problems that Bradley is continuing to run out there.

12:09
Comment From Alex
Eno, quick one for you. Keeper league. Just got offered Brandon Nimmo for Austin Hedges. I have Christian Bethancourt, and I was planning on keeping him over Hedges. I make that swap, right?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Yes also because TINSTAACP

12:10
Comment From Guest
Eno, 14 team H2H, keep 3 league. 2nd best record and obviously making a title push just moved Taveras (18th round keeper) and my 9th next year for Papi, Cespedes and J-Roll. Won’t keep any of them but I’m not concerned because FLAGS FLY FOREVER. You like?

12:10
Eno Sarris: In a keep three, yes. My “keep your best prospect” idea was more for dynasties. Taveras isn’t going to be kept on your team in a keep 3 anyway, I doubt.

12:11
Comment From Double Simcoe
Any under-the-radar dark wheat beers that I should check out? Man I love that style

12:11

12:12
Eno Sarris: And done.

12:12
Comment From Mookie the Wookie
Jorge Soler looks like he may be in-line for a call up this September. His improvements in K% & BB% put him in a pretty good bust bracket. Is this legit or SSS?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Man him improvements in K and BB have been stark! And the power is still there. Only 150 PA or so, but K does only take about 100 PA. I’m more positive about him now than I was in the past.

12:13
Comment From Pork Sale
What kind of premium would the Marlins have to pay to land a top starter? There’s no way Shields, Scherzer, or Lester go there for market value, is there?

12:13
Eno Sarris: It’s been a long time since they’ve signed a pitcher.

12:14
Comment From Drew Smyly
Any chance I’m not shut down for the season at some point soon?

12:14
Eno Sarris: 76 last year, 118.1 so far this year. Yeah I bet he has 20 or so innings left in him.

12:15
Comment From Awake in Seattle
I’m having trouble figuring out what to expect from Chris Taylor, both ROS and in 2015. Can you please help!!!

12:15
Eno Sarris: I’d put him down in pencil for .265/5/20 to be safe. Full season rates.

12:15
Comment From Texas Dolly
Any word on when we can expect Derek Holland to be activated?

12:16
Eno Sarris: No but hopefully it’s soon, all the teams where I’ve been hanging on to him have lost so many pitchers and suddenly need him. I bet it’s in two weeks.

12:16
Comment From Helix Fernandez
Would you keep $23 Donaldson and $5 Dozier as your two keepers? Or do you like any of $6 Lucroy, $5 Corey Dicks, $5 Josh Harrison, $1 Calhoun, $2 Myers better?

12:16
Eno Sarris: If it was a two-catcher league, Lucroy gets real sexy. Dickerson and Myers at their cheap prices are interesting, but Donaldson is a top-two round talent at a decent price, and I like that you’ve got two infielders.

12:17
Comment From Charles
Tough last few days for my fantasy team. Lost Machado, deGrom, Darvish, and Bailey. Who should I add for SP out of: Brandon McCarthy, Smyly, McCugh, or Shelby Miller?

12:17
Eno Sarris: McHugh has the best combo of most innings left and talent, I believe.

12:17
Comment From Pork Sale
Is there an available free agent bat that makes sense for the Cardinals next season? It seems they really need a middle of the order thumper.

12:17
Eno Sarris: Nelson Cruz lol

12:17
Comment From Raynor Shine
I’m wondering if Giancarlo Stanton wins the MVP because writers are afraid if they don’t vote for him he will smash them to pieces with his massive muscles. What say you Eno?

12:17
Eno Sarris: But that smile.

12:17
Comment From Rusney
What can we expect from Rusney Castillo when he signs? Fantasy relevant next year?

12:17
Eno Sarris: His translated Cuban stats are terrible.

12:18
Eno Sarris: (Even his real ones weren’t great. I’d say a homeless Martin).

12:18
Comment From Miiles daavis
Should I book my ALDS game 1 tickets at Camden Yards for O’s/Royals?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Um.

12:18
Comment From Nick (CT)
Do I trade Jose Peraza for Duda? I’m in the thick of a playoff race, have Kipnis at 2B. Dynasty league. I’d play Duda at UTIL v. RHP.

12:18
Eno Sarris: Yes, I doubt Peraza has a starting role next year.

12:19
Comment From BRL
Kluber or Darvish in a dynasty league

12:19
Eno Sarris: Darvish if this thing blows over. Darvish even if you lose a year to TJ?

12:19
Comment From Pennsy
You’re not the only man that prefers dongers, buddy 🙂

12:19
Eno Sarris: Jacking them in particular. Wait.

What is Christian Yelich’s upside?

12:20
Eno Sarris: .290/20/30?

12:20
Comment From Rated Rookie
On vacation (no wifi, just the iPhone), so mostly just observing today. I did want to raise my hand to say Carlos Rodon is pretty awesome. Invest where possible.

12:20
Eno Sarris: The change was a little firm and he didn’t throw many is the only negative thing I can say after that performance.

12:20
Comment From Northsider
Buxton 🙁 Can this kid catch a break? How back does this hold back his development?

12:21
Eno Sarris: As long as it’s the month-long concussion type, maybe not that bad.

12:21
Comment From John
Eno, I am teaching my first college course starting next week. And I’m not prepared. And yet, I’m still participating in this chat. Eno Sarris, killing productivity one thursday afternoon at a time!

12:22
Eno Sarris: Whoohoo! Keeping people uneducated!

12:22
Comment From Dewey
Chances Panda stays a Giant?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Kinda high actually. Not a lot out there next year at third, no in-house guys. Wilson Betemit
Alberto Callaspo
Eric Chavez
Jack Hannahan *
Chase Headley
Casey McGehee
Donnie Murphy
Nick Punto *
Aramis Ramirez *
Pablo Sandoval
Ty Wigginton

yuck. Unless they get Aramis for cheaper, but Aramis is super old.

12:23
Comment From John Stamos
David Peralta, Emilio Bonifacio, or Jarrod Dyson for bench OF? Need steals for this year, but also in a dynasty league I’m unsure of how to project Peralta.

12:23
Eno Sarris: Dyson? Peralta is pretty old.

Eno, I just found an amazing session IPA: Drift by 3 Brothers (Harrisonburg, Va.). Check it out if you can!

12:24
Eno Sarris: up and down lude.

12:24
Comment From Dr. Met
My mancrush RutRut now has a clear 1 month audition for 2015 right? Hopefully he doesn’t disappoint me again…

12:24
Eno Sarris: Yeah, he does. and he needs some BABIP love this time. Because the plate discipline isn’t great.

12:24
Comment From Jay
Do you see Familia taking over the closer role for the Mets soon. Meija seems banged up.

12:25
Eno Sarris: Mejia has a hernia that he’ll need surgery on, and calf issues, and is always broken, and 75 IP is fairly good for a reliever in terms of long-term health. Yeah I think he’ll get shut down and Familia gets the last month or so.

12:25
Comment From Brian
I’ve got my playoff spot locked up. Should I trade Lance Lynn for Anibal Sanchez and Homer Bailey? Dealing with an injury plagued team who needs healthy arms. I need them healthy by September 8 for playoffs.

12:25
Eno Sarris: Between the two, you’ll probably get one that’ll help you more than Lynn.

Give me some positive thoughts on Khris Davis.

12:26
Eno Sarris: Mashes versus lefties, okay in deeper AVG leagues overall?

12:26
Comment From Dr. Met
Re: Curious George flags fly forever, and prospects are very overvalued and bust a lot. Trade prospects at their peak buzz value and go for it IMHO.

12:27
Comment From Palam-ENO
Do you think masterson will be better than his stats indicate for next year?

12:27
Eno Sarris: He’s just a crap shoot every year. In the years where his health is okay and his command is good, he can thrive. Otherwise he just survives.

12:27
Comment From Hrkac Circus
Miami claiming they’re going to extend Stanton AND pick up a big name FA pitcher. Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Ah hence the question. Okay taking out everyone that’s not a big name or has an option, here are the FA pitchers:

Josh Beckett
Jason Hammel
Hisashi Iwakuma
Hiroki Kuroda
Jon Lester
Justin Masterson
Max Scherzer
James Shields

I could see them swooping up an older pitcher like Kuroda, calling it a big name, but not spending a ton of cash. I don’t see Lester or Scherzer wanting to go there.

12:29
Comment From Pennsy
Would this offseason be too early for the Nationals to give Anthony Rendon a fat extension?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Not if he gives them a couple option years.

12:30
Comment From Pennsy
Because I’ve got a fat extension I’d like to give him

12:30
Eno Sarris: This is one sexy chat.

12:30
Comment From Northsider
RE: Cubs’ infield. BA awarded Bryant with the title “Best Defensive Third Baseman”. Do we take this title with a grain of salt?

12:30
Eno Sarris: I haven’t seen him a ton. Three games. I would not have given him that title. Also, he’d be one of the tallest third basemen ever, no?

12:30
Comment From Kris
what you pouring out for byron buxton? 🙁

12:31
Eno Sarris: Nothing good, man, that stuff is expensive.

12:31
Comment From Jay
T. Wada. Do you believe?

12:31
Eno Sarris: 88 mph fastball means homer issues some days, bad days when the weather is warm and the wind is blowing out. But command means some good games. spot starter, even in deeper leagues.

12:32
Comment From Freakonomist
Where do you expect to rank Kris Bryant as a fantasy 3B going into 2015? (Top 10?)

12:32
Eno Sarris: Can’t put him up there if they don’t call him up and he doesn’t have a job ready for him to start 2015.

12:32
Comment From Jays fan
What impact do you expect from EE down the stretch?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Homers, parrot wings, some strikeouts.

12:32
Comment From Mike
My Mesoraco and Marte for a Trout rental? Mes and Marte would be potential keepers in the 19th and 22nd rounds of next draft. I’d also need to find a replacement at catcher (have Yadier on the DL).

12:33
Eno Sarris: That’s the going price if you can afford it, but I’d probably try to work around the edges more if I was in first/second.

12:33
Comment From Lewd
I work with a dude named Luder.

12:33
Eno Sarris: One man lude, that guy.

12:33
Comment From Pork Sale
Is Bells Two Hearted like having a consistent 4 win player locked up for 5/50 through his prime years. Such a solid, non flashy beer, that won’t break the bank.

12:34
Eno Sarris: Well we have it as a ten-winner at BG, but it isn’t flashy, and our top top beers are at 15.

12:34
Comment From LK
What’s a fair haul for Stanton in an NL only league? Lucroy, Yelich, Harang and Rondon?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Keeper, I assume, in which case the Harang needs to be a younger more interesting pitcher. I don’t think DeGrom would be asking too much.

12:35
Comment From 2015 Scout
This is a very random question, but I’m hopeful you’ll indulge me. I’m in an AL-only league and looking ahead to 2015. Of these available free agents, who is the best pick up if I’m hoping for a decent return next season: Alex Rodriguez, Billy Burns, Marcus Semien, Brad Miller or Joakim Soria.

12:36
Eno Sarris: I wish they’d traded Beckham to the Giants. A’s going to go in with Gentry/Crisp and the Yanks got a third baseman in the meantime. Soria could be a closer, but so could a lot of people. Brad Miller?

12:36
Comment From William
Will the Mets contend for at least a Wild Card spot next season?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, DeGrom, Colon? With Thor as the sixth guy? And hopefully one more bat?

Yes.

12:37
Comment From H to the Rizzo
In a 10 teamer drop Quintana or Ventura for a streaming spot?

12:37
Eno Sarris: I’d keep both.

12:38
Comment From These Pretzels Are Making Me Thirsty
Because earned runs matter for fantasy: should the overturned play at the plate yesterday be an earned run against Quintana, or a fielder’s choice and error on catcher?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Error on the catcher says a Quintana owner.

12:38
Comment From Jay
Can you rec any guys who are currently setting up who might be tagged to close next April? Familia? Kintzler? Axford somewhere else, et?

12:39
Eno Sarris: There’s Soria I guess. Maybe Giles if they can trade Papelbon in the offseason. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants sign someone, maybe like K-Rod, giving someone in Milwaukee a chance.

12:39
Comment From lunch
i’m desperate for anything from 2b/ss since neil walker got hurt. what looks best from the scrap heap? scooter gennett, mercer, valbuena?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Best would be a Mercer v LHP and Gennett v RHP platoon but if you can’t afford those roster spots, Gennett I guess.

12:40
Comment From BRL
Has Travis Snider finally turned the corner and is showing what the Pirates expected from him or will he regress?

12:41
Eno Sarris: He’s only 26! That’s amazing to me. Best swinging strike and K rates of his career, and in 200+ PA, so there’s a lot to believe here. Of course, the power has been the biggest question mark, and that’s just a guessing game.

12:41
Comment From TH
why are you not going to the saberseminar?? hmm???

12:41
Eno Sarris: I live in Palo Alto and have a pregnant wife and a two-year old, or I’d be there!

12:41
Comment From Hrkac Circus
No angry Orioles fans so far. Either you don’t invite as much rage as Jeff and Dave, or you’re just not answering any of them.

12:43
Eno Sarris: Haven’t written anything like they have. What’s funny is that I liked the Orioles and Jays going into the season: get bats, amass arms and hope that some work out. What’s weird is that Gausman has gotten his chance but hasn’t been great, and the rest of the Baltimore rotation is about the same, but they’re hanging around. If they can survive the August homer onslaught in Camden, they’ll be fine.

12:43
Comment From Pennsy
Marlins Park would be very kind to any pitcher that signed there

12:43
Eno Sarris: True but a star like Lester or Scherzer wants the most money from a contender that might not trade them the next year. So that’s why I think a later-career vet might like them.

12:43
Comment From PaulM
See Rymer’s jack yesterday? “Please please please be an impact hitter ” said every Padres fan ever.

12:44
Eno Sarris: Didn’t see it, but I see him as more of a jack of all trades than a power/speed tools monster. .250/.320 with 15/20 type numbers? A new Venable, hopefully without the platoon splits?

12:45
Comment From Please Explain
Is yeast….. Everywhere?

12:45
Eno Sarris: Yes! It’s in the air! Isn’t that crazy? That said, white labs dude told me that 99% of what’s in the air is unusable.

12:45
Comment From Marcus
How much do you think Sandoval is worth? Will he stick with the Giants or get pulled in another direction?

12:46
Eno Sarris: I like the rumored offer he got in spring, which was 3/45 or 4/50 or something. That’s not terrible. He wants more. Giants frustrated with some of his conditioning stuff, hard to see them sticking in with a crazy bidding war.

12:46
Comment From utley123
Is there a point in isolating RE24 for specific base-out states, or if you are going to get that granular, comparing wOBA in those situations to the players career wOBA

12:46
Eno Sarris: probably killing the sample pretty hard core?

12:46
Comment From Yirmiyahu
Fun Fact: Junior Lake’s 2014 season is the worst K%-BB% for any hitter, ever (min 300 PA’s).

12:48
Comment From Quadrangular!
Hi Eno, thanks for the chat! In an OBP league, who do you like for next year: Calhoun or Dickerson

12:49
Eno Sarris: Great question. By age and power, Calhoun’s upside is lower. But just for next year, Calhoun’s OBP upside is higher. Both have platoon issues. Eh, I think I still take the younger guy in Coors.

12:49
Comment From Drew Smyly
I’ve done well in the pen before, any chance TB lets me earn my 20 there instead?

In a keeper league would you swap Braun for Adam Jones?

12:51
Eno Sarris: I don’t think so, there’s something I like about Braun’s plate discipline that makes me think he can be good longer. Also, Braun stole more this year, which means the SB advantage for Jones may not be large.

12:51
Comment From John
Is there some anti-John fantasy magic I don’t know about. 2nd year in a row im leading the league into August just to have everything go horribly wrong. Please tell me a rotation of strasburg, hamels, greinke, zimmermann, gio, minor will turn it around. I sold out for this year!

12:51
Eno Sarris: I love stras. Love that rotation. Be careful with Minor I guess. You should be fine!

12:51
Comment From Kyle
What are your thoughts of keeping really expensive guys in keeper leagues? Like is it worth keeping Trout at $47 knowing he could likely go for much higher if thrown back into the draft pool or is there better value elsewhere?

12:52
Eno Sarris: He has surplus value and is the best fantasy player in the game, most likely. He’s a keeper.

12:52
Comment From Pale Hose
Eno – has there ever been any thought about having someone write about simulation leagues?

12:52
Eno Sarris: We did some scoresheet writing but nobody peeped up when we let it go.

Who of the Mariners, Royals, and Tigers do you have making the playoffs?

12:53
Eno Sarris: Mariners and Tigers.

12:53
Comment From William
What exactly is Matt den Dekker? He’s always been a pretty good hitter, but this season he’s absolutely killing it in the PCL. Leading that league in average is impressive. Is this a fluke or the long term answer in New York?

12:54
Eno Sarris: He’s too much like Lagares to have both, but I guess they could platoon to be a great CF. Great defensively, and he just changed his stance and his K% has gotten better. Even with the new stance, I htink he’ll K around 20 and won’t walk a ton. Some power. Between Lagares and Den Dekker, I wouldn’t worry about CF. You got Granderson. Need to find one more OF.

Posey’s position next year?

12:56
Eno Sarris: See that’s the rumor if Pablo goes. They could do something like sign Russ Martin and move Posey to third. Not crazy. I do think getting beat up behind the plate affects Posey at the plate sometimes.

12:56
Comment From Rupert
Thoughts on Michael A Taylor? Looked great in game 1, Ks galore in game 2.

12:57
Eno Sarris: Struck out a ton in the minors too. I want to see some more walks or he might be a one-tooler.

12:57
Comment From Rated Rookie
Ok, one more: did Taijuan Walker earn himself another look with his start last week? Anything not to like there?

12:58
Eno Sarris: Some command issues for him, always. And he got whooped in Triple-A. I think he’s just waiting for an injury in the current rotation.

12:58
Comment From LD
Assuming Cashner comes back and stays healthy (I know, I know) is there any reason SD would limit his innings or shut him down early?

12:58
Eno Sarris: No, he’s actually in the position where they’d want to build up his innings.

12:59
Comment From Jarrod Dyson
Any chance I’ll be a full-time regular next season? If yes, for what team?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Ibanez, Willingham, Aoki all gone next year. I could see the Royals doing Dyson and Cain in the OF, they’re just that crazy.

If Sandoval leaves, Posey to 3B, Susac to C and Belt to 1B?

1:00
Eno Sarris: They’d probably need to sign a vet catcher to help Susac.

Comment From Trouble with
Keuchel and Stroman make me nervous, but I’m in a 13-teamer where the stream options aren’t that great. Play Stro @CWS and Keuch @BOS and hope for the best?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Keuchel pitches in Houston all the time. I think he’s safe. Same for Stroman and his home park. And the offenses they facing aren’t that great.

Without looking: guess which recent Red Sox OF (Bradley, Ellsbury, Gomes, Nava, Craig, Cespedes, Carp, Victorino, Holt) easily has the best career wOBA vs RHB?

1:01
Eno Sarris: Gomes is a righty, Craig, too. I’m going to go with… Carp?

Need speed: you down with Crawford, Schaeffer, or other? 11-team mixer.

1:02
Eno Sarris: Crawford not going to k 30+%, so him.

1:02
Comment From Yirmiyahu
Nava.

1:02
Eno Sarris: The switch-hitter. But he’s post-peak. I think he’s fighting for his role next year right now.

Lincecum, his eyes Open! Giant playoff chances, when the walls fell.

1:02

Which team has more upside next season, the Pirates or Royals?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Pirates. I love their young players.

Puig has to hit bombs at some point right?

1:03
Eno Sarris: yes.

Alcantara as a good Swiss Army bench guy for the stretch, or does OBP concern you?

1:03
Eno Sarris: he will not give you good OBP.

1:04
Comment From Mike
New Wegman’s in town. Give me three beers to see if they have them. And I have already tried the tasty Ur Pils (so not that one).

1:05
Eno Sarris: Dunno where you are! Alpine Nelson is getting around now with a new distro deal. Can you get any three floyd’s? You should be able to get Saison Dupont.

1:05
Comment From Jack
Carter or JD Martinez in an OBP league?

1:05
Eno Sarris: CArter.

1:05
Comment From John
how smart am i for grabbing chris carter in a roto league?

1:05
Eno Sarris: hopefully OBP!

Comment From Kevin
Where do you find pitches per AB? I know Javy Baez swings at a lot of first pitches but he has had more 2-2 counts with a few foul balls. Everyone complains about no walks but he does see a lot of pitches, no?

1:06
Eno Sarris: you have to do the math at FG, we have pitches and PAs, so you can put them on a custom leaderboard. But p/PA has ups and downs. More leads to Ks and BBs and more power.

1:06
Comment From Ben Gimo Lina
am i crazy? dropped Votto & Machado this week for Reddick & J Peralta as extra offense. only 1 DL spot (mccutchen) and only 1 keeper; pitching is not a concern

1:06
Eno Sarris: Votto going to pick up a bat next week I think. The Machado part wasn’t crazy.

1:06
Comment From BRL
What’s going on with Danny Santana? Is he the real deal?

1:06
Eno Sarris: over his head. Ks will come back to bite him.

1:07
Comment From Adam
I too grabbed Carter several weeks back and have gotten to enjoy most of this streak. Is he doing something different that’s sustainable, or will he regress back to prior levels?

1:08
Eno Sarris: I think it’s possible that being more aggressive has helped him hit the ball before he strikes out, but nothing in his line looks incredibly out of line.

1:08
Comment From regression bession whats your fession?
Coincidence that the two teams arguably overachieving the most this year are the Brewers and Orioles and they are built relatively similarly?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Seems like either you think
1) You can never have enough pitching so you hoard young pitching and you have guys come in for injured guys and you always have a ton of pitching.
2) Run environment is down, so you can find pitching. Build an offense and look for pitching.

And there’s evidence for both, no?

1:09
Comment From Pennsy
Please name every young pitching prospect you would prefer to have over Lucas Giolito.

1:09
Eno Sarris: If they can’t have pitched in the big leagues… I like Henry Owens a ton, but don’t know if I can go that far.

1:10
Comment From Guest
IN THEORY, Rays could get Smyly 3 more starts, around 140IP on the season, send him down to the minors before rosters expand, and prevent him from being a super 2… Would save them millions, but would also be pretty shady and obvious

1:10
Eno Sarris: Uh yeah that sounds most likely actually.

1:10
Comment From Beaucoup Bucks
In what round would you draft Matt Harvey next year?

1:10
Eno Sarris: maybe around ten. I’d want to have a pitcher or two before him.

1:11
Comment From Jordan
What do you think of a metric that combine swinging strike % and First-strike %, similar to k-bb%? Could this be an effective predictor of ERA?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Not bad, because those are the best peripherals for K and BB respectively. Could do something like xK%-xBB%, which I felt pretty close to, but xBB% might not be possible. Too much goes into it. Think of Lincecum turning balls into strikes with whiffs.

1:11
Comment From Alex
Is it time to give up on Jesse Biddle becoming anything good?

1:12
Eno Sarris: no, actually, I think he could be a mid-rotation guy still.

1:12
Comment From BRL
Will Derrick Norris get more playing time? He seems to sit at least 2 times a week.

1:12
Eno Sarris: His K% jumps to about 25% against righties, that’s the problem.

1:12
Comment From inquiring
Regarding Hisahshi Iwakuma on your pending free agent list, won’t the Mariners exercise the $7 million club option for 2015?

1:12
Eno Sarris: I just copied from cots. Yes I think they’ll keep him.

1:13
Comment From Mike
Stroman good on innings for this season?

1:13
Eno Sarris: Actually he only threw 123 last year, and many teams would shut him down around 150. But his team is in it, and they need him.

1:13
Comment From Brad
is your rd 10, 10 team leagues 12 team? 14?

1:14
Eno Sarris: 12. Top 100 guy based on upside, but top 75 is pushing it for a guy coming off surgery that has a 15% failure rate.

1:14
Comment From Smarty Pants McGhee :p
Do any metrics take into account the competitive advantage a player might be by offering offense in unusual positions? Like shortstop?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Yes, WAR. It has a positional adjustment.

Giants and Brewers swapping 3rd basemen this offseason might make some sense, assuming Giants can grab a little Ramirez toosh for cheaper

1:15
Eno Sarris: toosh.

1:15
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Pineda looked NASTY yesterday. Didnt have awesome command, yet the O’s hitters could not put the barrel on the ball. His fastball moved a LOT. Your thoughts on him ROS?

1:15
Eno Sarris: Kept looking for the change and didn’t see one while I was watching. I’m still nervous about his approach vs lefties without a good one. Nice to see the velocity back though.

1:16
Comment From Sleeper & the Best
What to do with Alex Guerrero? Better than Rojas no? Don’t give me defense BS.

1:16
Eno Sarris: They’re playing him at third and LF in the minors, so defense BS.

I just traded for Darvish and he’s not even on my team yet and now I have to find a replacement. What do I do? Find another hobby?

How much does Cuddyer muddle the OF situation for Dickerson?

1:18
Eno Sarris: In the short term, he does, obviously. But Blackmon might be more in risk, he’s been worse. And Cargo sitting down for the season means they’re all probably fine.

You didn’t answer my question my friend, all you said was toosh. Please answer. Also I fixed the spelling of little in my name, thank you

Are Hulet’s rankings fantasy based? Javier Baez is the 5th ranked SS on today’s post despite already providing value that Seager and Russell might not provide for another 1-1.5 years. Or are the rankings “real life based” with some fantasy analysis mixed in?

1:20
Eno Sarris: Hulet now writes for RotoGraphs, so they are fantasy rankings.

1:20
Comment From P
kyle hendricks? for real? low K’s but, i mean… yeah?

1:21
Eno Sarris: I heard he throws two change-ups, one that’s more up down and one with more fade. He has good command. Only question mark was two whiffs in 16 breakers in his last game. I’d like to see a better cutter. But I like him some.

1:21
Comment From Jordan
Can you sum up the “don’t draft/pay for pitching” strategy that seems to be popular here at fangraphs? Why is this an effective strategy?

1:21
Eno Sarris: For fantasy? Because pitchers get hurt more often, stay hurt longer, and are harder to project. The year-to-year correlations for pitching projections to reality are around .5+, for hitting they are .67+.

1:22
Comment From Jim
Everyone keeps saying no way Seager starts in LA next year, but he just keeps raking, any chance we see him in early June? Also, if he is not a SS shouldn’t they be moving him like now?

1:22
Eno Sarris: He’s probably more of an SS than Hanley is at this point! I’m holding on to him, hoping that he at least starts his career at SS.

1:22
Comment From P
I’ve got $26 Santana and $2 Jaso (start Santana, mix in Jaso on good matchups) for my Cs. Is there more value to be had from getting a second guy like Jaso and platoon like crazy and use the extra $20 somewhere else? C seems deep right now.

1:22
Eno Sarris: Yeah I like that idea. I’m not huge on spending on catchers.

1:23
Comment From BRL
How much of downgrade is Travis Snider to say Rios or Blackmon? Was thinking of trading one of them for a starter.

1:23
Eno Sarris: i’d shop the outfielders.

1:23
Comment From Lude for No One
Just to clarify: I was talking about the length of Mike Trout’s longest HR in 2014 per Hittracker Online’s “true distance” metric… not the length of his penis.

1:23
Eno Sarris: no I wasn’t suggesting that. Mike Trout is awesome and his home runs go a long way.

1:24
Comment From BRL
What’s your thoughts on Brock Holt? Is he this good or is there regression in his future?

1:24
Eno Sarris: I think he’s an empty .275 batting average in the future.

1:24
Comment From Dusty
Cole’s return means one of the Latos, Liriano, Cole trio has to be moved. Latos has been winning, but reduced velo is worrisome. How would you rank those 3 ROS?

1:24
Eno Sarris: Liriano last RoS but Latos makes me super nervous.

1:24
Comment From joey
re: the six man rotation you’ve written about. saw speculation yesterday that it’s possible switching to the MLB schedule is causing injury to pitchers who come over – virtually every significant starter (except kuroda) who came over from NPB has suffered from some kind of arm-related issue shortly after doing so. thoughts?

1:25
Eno Sarris: Well, Japan also has crazy different warm up and warm down routines, too. But yeah I think a six-man rotation could help some. Changing something that radically would of course lead to injury, no?

1:25
Comment From SK1
Have you had the Sierra Nevada Beer Camp? Some good beers in there for a nice price

1:25
Eno Sarris: yes, so far so great from what I’ve tried!

1:26
Comment From Kevin
How many PAs do yo normally need for rate stats to stabilize? Is it any different in the case of mid-season call-ups?

1:26
Eno Sarris: it’s different for all of them, but 100 for Ks is a good one to remember. 150 for GB rates.

1:27
Eno Sarris: I’ve got the boy today! I’ve got to go! Thanks guys!
