Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 8/25/16

12:34
Eno Sarris: Something weird happens to your Limbic System when you have kids. It’s like someone turns on the hose, and suddenly you’re sitting there listening to a song you’ve heard a million times and you’re wiping tears from your face.

12:02
Eno Sarris: I’m here!

12:02
Gary: Let’s assume Benintendi is fine for next year. Better keeper: him or Brantley in a points league?

12:02
Eno Sarris: I’d rather take a shot on Benintendi’s power, he looked really impressive at the plate.

12:02
Al: How much value does a manager actually provide and is there a quantifiable metric to show how their decisions impact the win-loss total?

12:03
Eno Sarris: My guess is 2-4 wins, and no. Which sucks, because I got my first vote this year, and it’s for AL MOY.

12:03
Bork: Something happens to my Lude System every time I enter this chat.

12:03
2-D: I saw you enjoyed Mosaic form Odell, what else from Odell do you like or dislike?

12:03
Eno Sarris: St. Lupulin was good, the rest I’ve had have been just good.

12:04
Eno Sarris: as in ‘fine’ as opposed to ‘good.’

12:04
the best chat:

12:04
Tony G.: Hearing some positive things about Sandoval right now. Any chance he can be a productive fantasy player next season?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Why not. He’s only 30! As long as he fixed the thing that ailed him.

12:05
DB: What are your thoughts on Luke Weaver ROS? Is he a good spot start at least home to Oakland tomorrow?

12:05
Eno Sarris: Yeah I like that start. He’s not getting many whiffs on his breaking ball, but a good fastball and a great change is a good start.

12:06
pants: How does Freddie Freeman hit so many line drives with such a steep swing? I don’t think anyone else’s bat enters the zone at such a nearly vertical angle. You’d think he’d have to time the pitch perfectly to hit a line drive, but he’s always at the top of the LD% leaderboard.

12:08
Eno Sarris: Somehow his launch angle is 85th among guys with 30 BIP or more, although it’s a bit high, it’s right there with Khris Davis, Mike Moustakas, Paul Goldschmidt and Jay Bruce. I think a lot of things look weird about Freeman. Reminds me of something a scout once said about him: Freddie Freeman looks awkward. Freddie Freeman looks unathletic. Freddie Freeman looks like he can’t hit. Freddie Freeman can hit.

12:09
HappyFunBall: Marcus Stroman, best pitcher in baseball. Discuss

12:10
Eno Sarris: Those adjustments seemed to have really taken hold, but I like all the strikeouts best.

12:10
Mike S.: How is Francouer valuable enough to trade for but Papelbon can’t find work?

12:10
Eno Sarris: Clubhouse stuff matters a bit. Valencia is a productive player but has been released and couldn’t get the A’s anything at the deadline.

12:10
Johnny5Alive: ENO – we can’t bid on players until they are actually active, and we have weekly roster moves. NL only, need pitching. I have $52 FAAB left, do I bid it all on Rich Hill? I know it might only be 4 or 5 more starts, but can he help? Would I be better off trying for the pair of cole/gsellman? Wins, Ks, ERA

12:11
Eno Sarris: I think go for Hill. How many starts will Cole get and what if that pair isn’t really that usable. maybe go 46/6 on Hill/Gsellman.

12:11
Bogart: How many players wear sunscreen? #melanin

12:11
Eno Sarris: You know, I think I’ll ask em about this. Because I don’t see that much of it.

12:11
John Stamos: Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight. It must have been something you luded.

12:11
COWABUNGA: ENO ENO HE’S OUR MAN IF HE CAN’T DO IT THE WORLD WILL SLOWLY GRAVITATE INTO THE SUN AND DISSOLVE LIKE AN ALKA SELTZER IN WATER

12:12
Jeff in T.O.: Ugh, tell me about it. I cry at commercials with sad kids in them now…

12:12
Eno Sarris: Emotional Interlude.

12:12
Mike: With about a month to go in the season, what do you think we your best call of the year? Your worst?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Jake Lamb? Jorge Soler?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Pitching side… Finally got my reds in DeSclafani and Straily, was pretty happy with Hendricks going into the season but not this happy, thought Keuchel would be top 30 not top 20, but I hated Robbie Ray, Danny Duffy, J.A. Happ, and I really had higher hopes for Brandon Finnegan.

12:14
MASH: Keeper question. For next year how would you rank Miller, Duffy and Arcia at SS?

12:14
Eno Sarris: That order. Well, maybe Arcia ahead of Duffy, though I’d like to see a little more success.

12:15
Dumpster Fiers: Do you trust Hoffman tomorrow in Was?

12:15
Eno Sarris: no.

12:15
Matt: Beer for my wedding in November:
Gonna do 4 pony kegs, 3 of which are going to be sculpin, nelson, and .394. Got a rec on a 4th? Wedding is in San Diego, so I’d prefer to keep it local

12:16
Eno Sarris: Maybe a session or a gose? I actually like Karl Strauss’ session Mosaic, but that’s another fruity one. 32 North makes a great berry berliner weisse that is fresh and light and might give people an alternative.

12:16
humphrey: I’ve been at a day game in Camden Yards on a gorgeous, sunny day, and the stadium lights were all on. What could possibly be up with that?

12:16
Eno Sarris: They looking at weather reports?

12:17
Zonk: Local reporter suggests the White Sox need to blow it up. Fans are already apathetic, why not give it a shot? Chris Sale, for starters, would bring a monster return. What say you?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Because the guys in the FO are probably close to getting the axe and they built for a window. And in the offseason, it’s all about optimism. They’ll buy a free agent or two and that’ll be it for their last shot.

12:17
HappyFunBall: Dropping Andrew Benintendi = sad face

12:17
Eno Sarris: yes.

12:17
Chris “Mad Dog” Russo: HEY ENO. WHAT DID YOU HAVE FOR BREAKFAST TODAY? I HOPE IT WAS GREAT. BYE!!!!

12:18
Eno Sarris: In the words of the great Andy McCullough: Why are you yelling at me.

12:18
I’m a Young One: So Eno, I turned 21 on Tuesday, and I live in Cincinnati, What should I start with? I have never had a drink in my life. So cast a wide net for me.

12:18
Eno Sarris: Rheingeist. Start with a session pale ale!

12:18
Bork: Your reaction when you heard about the three team deal with the headliner being Jeff Francoeur.

12:18
Eno Sarris: I scrolled down.

12:18
rent: thoughts on Ryon Healy? He’s basically Maikel Franco with a few fewer walks, right?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Got a piece coming on him. He made the big swing adjustment that power hitters should make, and I believe in him. I see him pulling in one power alley for homers and pushing in the other for doubles, which I really like.

12:19
JP: Lowest average exit velocity allowed among pitchers with at least 200 BIP this season-Tyler Anderson. Is this dude for real?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Ton of cutters. Some funk. I’ll buy him but I just can’t trust Rox at home.

12:20
Alex: What’s the best (gasp!) gluten-free beer you’ve ever had? Has anything come close to, like, actual beer?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Still looking for one I like.

12:20
ChicagoCardinal: Eno – thanks as always. Is Justin Upton about to go on his annual Upton run?

12:20
Eno Sarris: He does usually have a hot month, and I think he has one in him still.

12:20
Reggie: Did you notice Manaea dominated last start as basically a fastball-changeup guy? Is this a bad sign for his slider or just a good sign for his change?

12:21
Eno Sarris: His slider has recently gotten harder, but just barely. He’s up to 81 or 82, and that’s still slow. I think he needs a little more gas on that.

12:21
Grasmani Yandall: Thanks for all the great stuff! We’re quite a few regular readers in Israel.

12:22
Eno Sarris: Awesome! Did you see this masterpiece of mine? http://www.fangraphs.com/not/jurickson-shofar/ Deserves an award of some sort.

12:22
Q-Ball: Do you buy that it’s a problem when a team clinches too early? That players lose their edge into the playoffs? Or is that poppycock?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Seems like poppycock.

12:23
Bork: Gary Sanchez and Devon Travis walk into a bar.

12:23
Eno Sarris: I’d guess Travis walks under the bar though.

12:23
ooo: A’s stocking up on Cistulli guys (Cotton, Semien, now Schrock) makes me very, very happy.

12:23
Eno Sarris: People mock them as “performance prospects” but Cistulli spotted Mookie Betts and Marcus Semien before they were on top 100 lists.

12:24
J-Fern Owner: Deadline in a week – keeper league and need pitching reinforcement. Do I trade Fernandez for DeGrom and Taillon? Set me up good for next year as well and should help with WHIP/ERA cats and I think Taillon could be the next DeGrom type fantasy pitcher (low era/whip/ 9 k/9)

12:25
Eno Sarris: Taillon’s still a pitch short and de Grom’s not really worrying me, but if you’re in it now, dunno. If it’s for next year, I like getting the extra pitcher. Quantity is great!

12:25
klof: Hawk Harrelson+Guaranteed Rate puns = kill me now

12:25
Eno Sarris: MUTE BUTTON

12:28
Proswagonist: Sometimes music is composed for video games. Sometimes that music is awesome.

12:29
Eno Sarris: Sometimes it just sounds like a video game and is awesome.

12:29
Chet: Thoughts on Berrios and Musgrove? What does each need to do to succeed in the Show?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Man give Berrios Musgrove’s command and you’d be set. Give Musgrove Berrios’ curveball and he’d be set. Sorta answers the question, but you can’t mush people together I think that’s illegal.

12:30
Carlos Mencias still alive?: Eno can you talk a little about Greinke? Confused as to how a solid, perennial ~3 ERA guy, can be this volatile and untrustworthy. Certainly can’t just be park factors right? What’s going on?

12:31
Eno Sarris: A bunch of pitchers told me they hate pitching in Arizona because of the grip on their slider. I’m not saying that Greinke has admitted that to me, but it is his slider that’s been a little wonky.

12:31
neo…from the matrix!: how can i gift your beer book?

12:31
Eno Sarris: The book is at beergraphs.com/book and here are instructions, I hope this helps

12:32
Chris: Why does Cameron Rupp not gat any attention? He made some changes to his swing, and looks like a capable starting catcher with pretty legit power.

12:32
Eno Sarris: Statcast darling. I traded for him in a keeper league and it only cost Brandon Finnegan.

12:32
Gary Sanchez: I’m here to inject this chat with power.

12:32
Eno Sarris: I think I’d keep that verb away from that noun.

12:33
klof: Do you think Joc is ever not a platoon guy?

12:34
Eno Sarris: He had a 91 wRC+ against lefties last year! I’m surprised they’ve done this to him. I know it was a small sample, but he’s a patient enough hitter that he can provide value with walks low in the order v LHP.

12:34
Seabass: Don’t you ever leave again, Eno

12:34
Eno Sarris: Sorry! If it makes you feel better, vacation was exhausting.

12:35
Seabass: Should I drink Cholorophyll?

12:35
Eno Sarris: I’ve used it time to time for my stomach issues and haven’t found great results.

12:35
Dave: Any thoughts on Rob Segedin? Flash in the pan rookie or possibly legit?

12:36
Eno Sarris: 27 now… Took him a while. Didn’t show this power until this year. Projections are for meh defense at a corner position and below-league average bat, and I don’t know enough to say that’s wrong.

12:37
The Cincinnati Kid: Is Dahl a Keeper inside the Top 10 Rds next year? What would you set his HR and SBs at next year?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Yeah I do think he is. Looks like a regular now, and should hit at least .275 with 15/15 type baseline and more power upside.

12:38
Brett W: Javier Baez – batting average fluke or new normal resulting from adjustment?

12:38
Eno Sarris: Certainly made an adjustment and hits the ball really hard. I could see some fluctuation around .260, but mostly this is real.

12:39
COWABUNGA: Kyle Schwarber or Gary Sanchez in dynasty?

12:40
Eno Sarris: It actually depends on the league. Because in the shallower leagues, I’ll take Schwarber’s definite power. But the deeper you go, if it’s a two-catcher league, that sort of thing, I’ll take Sanchez, who should play more catcher.

12:41
Seabass: Dynasty Question: What return should I look for two plus years of control of Trout at $2? OBP/SLG league with twelve teams and 40 man rosters

12:41
Eno Sarris: Everything.

12:41
Nelson: FYI- since your talk about choking up Ive been trying it with great results in softball. Next I need to try tight pants.

12:41
Eno Sarris: And a knuckle curve!

12:42
Jim Lonborg: As a representative of the good people of Somerville, Massachusetts, I must report that my people are telling me that all hope is lost and life is not worth living without Benintendi. What should I tell them, other than reminding them that they’d never heard of the guy two months ago.

12:42
Eno Sarris: We’ve got another guy you’ve never heard of coming down the pipe that will be great, get hyped! (It’ll work no matter who ever it is.)

12:43
Hannah Hochevar: How bad of a bruising am I cruising for if I start both Berrios and Norris today, AL? Would you touch either?

12:43
Eno Sarris: Norris has a decent matchup in a good park!

12:43
A bee cee: Start Eduardo R tomorrow? Seems like he’s turned a corner if that hammy can just hang in there

12:43
Eno Sarris: Harder slider has been good. Nice park, I’d give him a shot.

12:44
Eno Sarris: German! this is “Ich Bin Nackt” which translates to “I am naked.”

12:45
Jeff in T.O.: How is it decided what you get to vote for? Why do you get an AL MOY vote instead of a NL ROY vote? Thanks!

12:45
Eno Sarris: I’m in the bay area pool and not a beat for either side, so I guess I’m eligible for either side. Have not decided. Want to get with Jeff Zimmerman and Sean Dolinar and design a couple stats to help me decide.

12:46
A bee cee: Matt Boyd. Yay or nay?

12:47
Eno Sarris: He’s still losing a full mph from the first to the fifth, which I don’t love. But I see a riser, a good chagne, a decent slider… just a few too many homers on the fastball to give him a grade A stamp of approval, could be a bad fastball guy. But there’s something there.

12:48
2-D: Are a lot of young guys tinkering with grips as much as Manaea?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Yup. Sonny Gray was doing it during starts while on the mound.

12:48
JT: Now that G Polanco has improved against LH pitching, do you think he can develop into a .300 hitter?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Always thought he could.

12:48
Wakawaka: Can Statcast spin rates tell you anything about a pitcher’s “stuff” that Pitch FX velocity and movement data can’t? If spin is only useful insofar as it creates movement, what’s to be gained by looking at the spin rate in addition to the horizontal and vertical movement of a pitch? Thanks.

12:49
Eno Sarris: I think there’s a chance you can tweak a guy’s arm slot and take more advantage of spin. Because spin plus arm slot (and a few more mechanics, like extension) creates movement, so if you have spin, maybe you can Rich Hill the arm slot and get Rich Hill.

12:49
ALDS: Conforto ready to come up and rake?!

12:50
A bee cee: Is Greinke just last years Lester w the yips or is this something that could hang around and cause problems because dude does not look the same

12:50
Eno Sarris: Still believe in that young man. (Conforto)

12:51
Eno Sarris: Still believe in that less young man. (Greinke)

12:51
Eno Sarris: There’s virtually no year to year change in pitch mix or velocity. His arm slot is a bit higher, but that’s not usually called a negative, and his change has more horizontal movement, his fastball more ride, and his curve more drop. I haven’t found anything bad yet other than perhaps some command issues on the slider.

12:52
Mike: What are the odds that Byung Ho Park’s wrist was the cause of his awful season and he lives up to his initial hype next year?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Yo I am totally buying him again next year, especially in AL-O for $8 or so.

12:52
Hannah Hochevar: You gonna interview Triggs Are For Kids?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Yeah but now I gotta wait for a couple weeks at least because Jeff Sullivan.

12:52
carl: Rubby De la Rosa – future AZ closer? Also, Red Sox have inquired about Papelbon, but he is blowing them off.

12:52
Eno Sarris: Oh seems like a good plan for Paps.

12:53
Sculpin: You have to start a major league team with someone from this year’s crop of rookies. Who do you pick?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Does Seager count? Because him then. If not, I love love me some Nomar Mazara. Wish he played up the middle, but I’ll take his batting profile over Story’s or even Contreras’.

12:54
Zonk: What player has an unusual or cool hobby you can share?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Cory Knebel homebrews. Trevor Bauer races drones. Josh Reddick cuddles with his dogs.

12:55
Mike: How much lude could a ludechuck chuck if a ludechuck could chuck lude?

12:55
LudeBurger: also, about to teach my first class in grad school. wish me luck…plz…

12:55
Bert: You know what happens when you allude to a lude….

12:55
Eno Sarris: Good luck lude.

12:55
Brendan: Eno, Finnegan is on WW and have Gio on my bench now. I only have one start left between the two this week. Who would you go with? It’s a points league as well. Thanks! ARI park scares me a bit.

12:55
Eno Sarris: Gio.

12:55
Billy: Hey Eno! This is my first year in a Roto. I’m in 1st by 11 pts, 10 teamer OBP. I have 2 points in wins, but 8 points each in WHIP and ERA. At this point, do I even bother trying to catch up with wins? Or do I focus on making sure my WHIP/ERA stay high?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Chasing wins is a folly. Pitch your guys, but don’t pick up bad pitchers on good teams chasing wins.

12:56
Dave Aunepetitegraine: What beer is best to drink before doing vigorous physical activities?

12:56
Eno Sarris: No beer? Watery session?

12:56
Robert Woldegiorgis: do you know any knowledgeable Asian baseball Twitter accounts?

12:57
Eno Sarris: @npbtracker

12:57
Eno Sarris: @mykbo

12:57
Eno Sarris: @JballAllen

12:59
Ampersand: Hi Eno! I stumbled upon a Drei Fonteinen Oude Gueze last week and am planning to drink it this evening. I don’t have a question.

12:59
Eno Sarris: is v good.

12:59
bob: Should I start James Paxton in tonight’s game against the White Sox?

12:59
Eno Sarris: yes.

12:59
Nate: Oh man, I don’t even have kids, but I was listening to Andrew Bird’s (fantastic) new album just now and “Valleys Of The Young” damn near destroyed me.

12:59
Eno Sarris: He’s so amazing. Nice guy, too, almost shy.

1:00
Eno Sarris: Married to a friend of my wife’s and I’m afraid I fanboyed a bit the first time we hung out. Didn’t seem to bother him too much the subsequent times.

1:01
Gary: So word is that Willson Contreras’ defense is trending upward… Rates out as a plus framer so far. Is this dude a star in the making or what do the Cubs have there?

1:01
Eno Sarris: He’s special.

1:02
Josh: If the Cubs continue at this pace are we going to see an all pitcher OF at some point in late September… what would that look like? I have it as, Strop (LF), Wood (CF), CJ (RF)?

1:02
Eno Sarris: Not in September, though, because everyone has a million players in September. It’s great!

1:02
Seth: have you toured the greater cincinnati beer scene? madtree, blank slate, braxton all doing some tasty things

1:02
Eno Sarris: Have had some stuff in trade, but haven’t been there in years.

1:03
Please God Help Me: With the emergence of Gary Sanchez, I now face a conundrum unlike any other. I haven’t slept for weeks. The gin is empty. The cigarettes are gone. The void is vast. Pick two for a dynasty league: Sanchez, Schwarber, or Mazara.

1:04
Eno Sarris: Oh god this is one of those stare in the mirror at bloodshot eyes and pull at your hair moments. Schwarber gonna have more power, I’d say. Sanchez was at .187 in Triple-A this year, that’s not super impressive.. I need Mazara on my team.

1:04
Steveo: RE: SD Wedding beers. Modern Times Fruitlands would be a nice addition to the hoppy beers.

1:05
Interesting: If a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush then what’s a Bork worth? Asking for a friend

1:05
Eno Sarris: A twerk in the club?

1:05
Alex: Thanks for the rec of The Abyss for a bba. If you’re a fan of BBA, I’d rec Bottle Logic’s Stronger Than Fiction that they just did a special bottle release of.

1:05
Gene Autry: Do you see Bedrosian as the Angels closer next year? Surely they can’t go back to Street can they?

1:05
Eno Sarris: Yeah Bedrosian going to take it even if they start with Street.

1:05
Erik: Jake Thompson was supposed to be pretty good, but through 4 starts he doesn’t even look worthy of a bullpen spot. Was he an overrated prospect, or is he failing in a fixable way and should be fine long term?

1:06
Eno Sarris: I thought he was supposed to be a reliever.

1:06
Big Joe Mammoth: So Bautista has to have lost some of his bargaining power what with the injuries reduced production blah blah and Encarnacion has done the opposite. Who stays and who goes?

1:06
Eno Sarris: Bautista has become cheaper, right? Seems like he’s still better bet to stay.

1:07
Hank: Kendall Graveman has been pretty good lately, doing what we all wanted him to do by generating ground balls and not giving up home runs. Is he a viable streaming option going forward?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Yeah but the extremely low K totals mean he’s just that for me.

1:07
rustydude: Can you give a hi level summary of why Salazar is possibly a buy from the Sleeper & Bust podcast? Can’t listen at work.

1:07
Eno Sarris: I can’t find a smoking gun in his movement, velocity, pitch percentages, or release points.

1:08
Tim: Freeman’s swing is all about timing. When his timing is off, he looks absolutely lost at the plate. But when he’s on, he’s a beast.

1:08
Eno Sarris: Which is an argument against steep swings in general. Maybe the end will be more swift than we think.

1:08
Leo Mazzone: I think I’m starting to see a few flashes of Gausman putting it together. Does he finally have that breakout year in 2017?

1:08
Eno Sarris: I’ll bet on the breakout when he adds a cutter or goes to the NL.

1:08
Mike: I wonder what the guaranteed rate would be if the White Sox blew it up.

1:08
Colin: Will Tyler Naquin have a starting job next year? Seems like Cleveland doesn’t trust him as an everyday starter at the moment.

1:09
Eno Sarris: Will be in the top four, but it’s a bit far out and they have Zimmer and Brantley and a whole offseason.

1:09
Bork: Cistulli also spotted Matt ‘literally Cy Young’ Boyd.

1:09
Negrodamus: Sanchez is this years Sano. Big splash, small ripples. Count it

1:09
Eno Sarris: shared for the handle, which makes me think this is one of my buddies.

1:10
Erik: How many offseasons are typically spent in the “buying” phase of a rebuild? Do teams sell, sell, sell, and only buy during their first good season when enough prospects pan out at the same time? Or do you buy once to get from 70 to 78 wins, and again to get from 78 to wild card contention? Should someone like the Phillies buy this offseason in preparation for a 2018 run?

1:10
Eno Sarris: I think you should always buy if the deal is small enough and good enough. You can always sell that player later! But buy Big when you’re really close.

1:10
Matt: Re: Sunscreen (kinda)
I know Freddie Freeman wears long sleeves for every game because his mom passed away from skin cancer

1:11
Big Joe Monferrant: It’s odd that for some players, you cannot see the decline in bat speed with the naked eye, even though you see the results of it.. But Justin Upton’s bat is clearly slower to the naked eye. Are we seeing the start of a very steep decline?

1:12
Eno Sarris: I sold, perhaps low, in my deep dynasty, because I was worried that the streakiness meant an underlying slowness to adjust and a reliance on tools which could point to a steep decline, couldn’t it?

1:12
Michael: Looking for a replacement for Stras: Phelps or Samardzija most likely to get me consistent innings?

1:12
Eno Sarris: Buy Phelps for the next three starts and then look again.

1:12
Big Joe Monferrant: Is it hard writing positive things about teams or players you “hate? (Ex: Yankee fan having to write about Red Sox players)

1:13
Eno Sarris: What teams did I grow up hating? That might be the best test.

1:13
davey: Smyly has been rolling. Does it come crashing down against Boston today?

1:14
Eno Sarris: It’s Odorizzi today? Is he starting tomorrow? At home, I’d chuck Smyly and duck and hope for no

1:14
Jack C.: Can you elaborate more on the “grip of the slider” in Arizona? This is really an issue for pitchers there compared to other places in the country?

1:15
Eno Sarris: Yeah it’s in my piece about cold pitching. People said they hated the dry of the desert, needed more moisture to get a grip on the ball.

1:15
Donald Trump: It’s not illegal to mush people together. I’m made of an old goat and some playdough myself.

1:15
Sreeb: Rank these Modern Times IPAs: Orderville (Mosaic), Protocosmos (Galaxy), Booming Rollers (Citra)

1:16
Eno Sarris: Proto is in my fridge for a first tasting today perhaps. But Booming Rollers rules my world so that’s first.

1:16
dril: u got 1 side saying dogs have paws & the other side saying dogs have hooves..then me, the guy who cuts thru the BS, saying they have Niether

1:16
Eno Sarris: reasonable approximation of a dril post, but I’d say he’s usually a bit more profound. Maybe this will hit me tomorrow, sometimes that happens.

1:17
Tom: Teoscar looks pretty good! What kinda numbers do you see from him? 270/330/430 15 HRs 25 SB possible in a full year?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Maybe he made a real adjustment because he’s seen 165 pitches and that 10.9% swinging strike rate does not suggest a 30% strikeout rate is coming. But I’ll hedge bets a bit and call him a .260/.320/.430 guy… still pretty good.

1:18
Bork: Just so you know the first “Bork” you posted from isn’t #realbork. I’m here now though!

1:18
Eno Sarris: Let’s get it right.

1:18
Covelli: You like Triggs as much as Sullivan does?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Changeup looks legit, and definitely comes with the funk.

1:20
Danny Salazar: Re: Yesterday’s podcast aren’t you concerned about increased walk rate

1:20
Eno Sarris: He doesn’t have great natural command. I was more surprised by his low walk rates before.

1:20
Nick: How come fans are always so pessimistic about their teams? Isn’t this something people follow for enjoyment? Its not their jobs on the line so why get very upset when a player under performs or the front office makes a bad trade?

1:21
Eno Sarris: The weirdest thing for me is when they get really mad at a front office, and then I swear they seem like they’re rooting for the team to fail so that the GM can get fired. I’ve seen this with Dodgers and Mets fans. Why not just root for the team?

1:21
Sculpin: Do major league players like good beer? Or is it more of a Bud/Coors crowd?

1:22
Eno Sarris: Very few into good beer. Even Adam Lind, who I was told was into good beer, only had a pilsner name for me. Knebel is legit. Doolittle knows good beer.

1:22
RC: Just missed you playing pickup yesterday – heard you were on fire

1:23
Eno Sarris: There you are! Can’t wait to play with a listener/chatter, even if it means someone will call me out when I embellish. I called one of our dudes 6’10” and when he came back to play a few weeks later, he was like, I’m only 6’6″ dude. But yeah, yesterday we played inside and I *love* shooting inside.

1:23
Eric Rodriguez: Why do some Giants fans hate Brandon Belt and some seem to think Adrian Gonzalez is better. Is that true? Also how can he adjust to getting so many outside pitches plus the borderline calls seemingly going against him.

1:24
Eno Sarris: The next few years will probably separate the two. Belt plays with push/pull and just needs to push a bit more to get rid of those outside pitches.

1:24
Eno! Helloooooo: Enoooo!!! How do you feel about Stillwater? They’re all over the place, they’re always making interesting beers and they’re reasonably priced. I appreciate the effort.

1:25
Eno Sarris: I kinda put them in the Mikkeller/Dogfish Head grouping, except you’re right about the price. I just am a little gunshy with those breweries sometimes because the bad ones are so bad.

1:25
Beer Thursday: Is Strailly for real now and for next year?

1:25
Eno Sarris: He’s a major league starting pitcher. As for his current success… I’d like to see what an offseason of training at Driveline can do for that velo. Rather have a righty sitting at 91+.

1:26
Bork: The issue with telling fans that there is a new young guy who will be great, is that they start asking questions like WHY DONT WE TRADE THAT GUY FOR KERSHAW OR TROUT?

1:26
Johnny5Alive: thought i was sly picking up burgos, but woof

1:26
Pitching Stream: Two Brothers Prairie Path is a reasonable gluten free beer

1:27
Ave: Does Trea Tuners low walk rate concern you? How do you feel about him next year?

1:27
Eno Sarris: He’s fast, hits the ball on the ground, and actually has some power, so he should run a decent batting average on balls in play to make up for the low walk rate. I don’t see a problem.

1:27
Big Joe Monferrant: I hit the only over the fence HR in my company soft ball game.. Should I set up an open workout for teams??

1:28
Eno Sarris: YOUTUBE VIDEO GET THE PIG ROASTING

1:28
Eric: Hey, remember when you told me to trade for Addison Russell? Thanks.

1:28
Eno Sarris: Looking better and better every day. I believe in that young man and it’s not because he’s dreamy.

1:30
Eno Sarris:

1:30
Seth: going to try some barrel aged stuff later today–what should i say to seem more knowledgeable?

1:30
Eno Sarris: “you can really taste the wood”

1:30
spooky: Harambe died for this baseball chat

1:30
Eno Sarris: Moment of silence.

1:31
Bobby Evans: What’s wrong with the Giants and how would you fix it? Asking for a friend

1:31
Eno Sarris: Nothing to be done now unless you can scour the wires for another reliever or convert one of your minor league starters into a reliever.

1:31
Billy Beane: You spend some time in the Oakland Clubhouse. Surprise you that Danny V decked Butler?

1:32
Eno Sarris: Not really. Valencia is a young hot head and the best way I can describe Butler is ‘meddling uncle.’ He has opinions and voices them and it bothers some people. Bad mix, bad moment, bad choices all around.

1:32
Nick: Are you planning on checking out Kevin Youkilis’s new brewery in Los Gatos?

1:32
Eno Sarris: Thanks for reminding me!

1:33
Russell: If “I Believe I Can Fly” makes me cry every time (freakin’ Space Jam man) and I have no kids, should I just have my tear ducts removed now?

1:33
Eno Sarris: Uh, shortly after the birth of the first one perhaps.

1:33
Jim: Hard to sleep on a first place team, but should Kershaw return to form with that lineup the dodgers… that’s a dangerous team.

1:33
Eno Sarris: yeah the Giants needed to do more this series because the Dodgers about to pull away.

1:33
Sailor Jerry: Quick somebody blow on Super Benintendi and make everything alright

1:33
Jeet: How do you tackle dynasty rosters where you have great minor prospects and your pickups have panned out? I picked up Hernan Perez, Teoscar Hernandez and Schimpf and all seem to do well. Too many bats but they don’t have good trade value

1:34
Eno Sarris: See if you can package Perez and Schimpf to a contender who needs infield help, overpay to get a top-ten type prospect or a young struggling former top-ten type guy.

1:34
Sailor Jerry: “This feels like a Quaalude”- Frank Ocean, secret Eno chatter?

1:34
ctw: that’s a real dril post I think

1:35
Eno Sarris: oh well don’t tell him I critiqued it then haha.

1:35
spooky: What’s your take on Cleveland’s closer situation? Seems like they gave away a lot to use the best reliever in the game mostly as a set up guy

1:35
Eno Sarris: Nah, 8th is important too. They are hot fire in the late innings.

1:36
Bork: It’s apparently a Borkception today.

1:36
Duh: Bork isn’t a person but a feeling

1:36
Eno Sarris: controversy.

1:36
Satya: Eno, looking forward to meeting you at the Pitch Talks event in SF next week. John Coppolella is saying the Braves will look to add a top of the rotation starter in the off season. Any idea who will even be out there?

1:36
Eno Sarris: Should be fun! www.pitchtalksbaseball.com

1:37
Eno Sarris: Shopping next year won’t be that much fun. They may have to trade for someone because the headliners are … Andrew Cashner, Brett Anderson, Jaime Garcia, and Jeremy Hellickson.

1:38
Richie: You buy when your owner says to you, “So this is the year we really improve. Right? (coughahem)”

1:39
Eno Sarris: This is why GMs don’t trade young players on good contracts that extend three or four years out. Owner is like “tell me the part again where we won’t be good in the next three years, that was the good part.”

1:39
Matt: How many fantasy leagues you in? How many Ottoneu?

1:39
Eno Sarris: I think 12 and 2.

1:39
Kris: Stone and Wicked Weed both make gluten reduced beers, which is essentially gluten free. Delicious IPA from Stone and Gluten Freek from WW

1:40
Steve: Who are you more confident in figuring things out between Aaron Blair and Matt Wisler?

1:40
Eno Sarris: Blair I guess but his problem might be the fastball.

1:40
njs: i’ve see a few of you FG guys in the chats mention that you’;re getting to vote in the MLB awards but not all of them… how does that work with the BBWAA?

1:41
Eno Sarris: You’re in a local chapter, and votes get passed around the local chapter based on what I don’t really know. But if your local chapter is a big one (Bay Area is) then you’re less likely to get a vote.

1:41
Bill: Danny Valencia is 31 years old…not exactly a ‘young’ hot head

1:41
Eno Sarris: Age is more than a number, and I’ve never used that as a line, I promise.

1:41
njs: i hate IPAs, love sours, love stouts, like everything else (shandy, porters, lagers, & ales)… anything novel you would suggest i try?

1:42
Eno Sarris: Have you had a sour porter? Almanac and The Bruery make versions. Some of my favorite beers.

1:42
Doug: Should Coppy use Albies as a trade chip? Go after a middle order hitter of #2 type starter? Deep farm system we could afford to make MLB additions

1:42
Eno Sarris: They’ll have to do something like that if they are going to add a top starter.

1:43
Billy Beane: Your description of the Danny V/Butler fight makes me laugh mostly because Valencia is a year older than Butler. But from my understanding, Butler seems (and looks) older whereas Valencia seems (and acts) like a 20 year old.

1:43
Eno Sarris: I won’t pretend I knew that, but yeah, that’s how they act.

1:43
JoeB: Do you see contraries as a .289, 15 Hr catcher next season? An all star in a few years?

1:43
Eno Sarris: Lower batting average, maybe more homers.

1:43
John Stamos: Best bet in the Diamondbacks bullpen for saves ROS?

1:43
Eno Sarris: Burgos? Other?

1:43
JoeB: What would

1:43
Eno Sarris: He would go back to work, that’s would.

1:44
Eno Sarris: Thanks for hanging out!
