Eno Sarris: I bet they run it like Cleveland with Derek Falvey in there. hope to have the young guys do it with a slow ramp up of free agent signings. Doubt they trade anything under control for a win now piece.

Minty: SP Castillo at $2 or Francisco Mejia at $4 as my last keeper?

Eno Sarris: Castillo. Mejia could be very good and still not be great for fantasy.

Merv Throneberry: Do you like Aaron Hicks as a 20/20 candidate in 2018?

Eno Sarris: Sure, with a .240 batting average.

Ted: You starting Nova or Manaea tonight?

Eno Sarris: Not if I was at all nervous about ERA and WHIP. I wrote that the A’s should shut Manaea down three weeks ago.

SN: If you were managing the Yankees, would you start Severino or go with the bullpen game?

Eno Sarris: They have such a great pen. But the inside baseball line is: whatever it takes to win. So that means Severino AND the bullpen.

Bruce: Josh Hader and Domingo Santana for Carlos Gomez. Wow, that was a bad trade for the ‘stros.

Eno Sarris: And I thought Gomez was built on athleticism that was fading at the time of the deal.

James: Enjoyed the Warthen slider piece. To bounce off of that a bit what the heck do they do with the rotation next year if they plan to contend?! Am I crazy or wouldn’t it behoove them to get a Lance Lynn-type who can (seemingly) guarantee them some good, quality innings?

Eno Sarris: They probably *should* buy a pitcher to keep guys like Gsellman and Lugo in the 5th/6th starter spot, but the talk is of spending on the pen.

Ol Sea Cap’n: I’ve pretty much feel ennui about beer at the moment except milk stouts. Have any off the beaten path suggestions?

Eno Sarris: How about a dry stout? A little bit lighter, a little bit more bitter, a little change.

Eno Sarris: I was going to say ‘yeah but the Yankees are that much better than the Twins’ but then I looked and six games separate both pairs. i’m changing my mind a bit: what if upsets are good?

Acuna Matata: Who has better range Matt Kemp or Mike Engelberg?

Eno Sarris: Bobby Cox.

Carl C: If Budweiser secretly recanned a Treehouse IPA and called it Bud NEIPA, and sold it in the same quantities as Bud light, what rating on untapped would it get?

Eno Sarris: 3.5. “Meh, it’s okay but the NEIPA is played out.”

Ol Sea Cap’n: Let’ s talk dynasty – is max Kepler, aaron altherr and delino Deshields going to be ‘things’? I feel breakouts coming… cray cray or yea yea?

Eno Sarris: I dunno… exit velo doesn’t favor Kepler, I don’t see the power coming for Delino so it would have to be all D and run, and Altherr is 26 and doesn’t seem inclined to run.

Bob Villar: Ozzie Albies!

Eno Sarris: I cannot contain my enthusiasm. Dude is single handedly keeping me from quitting dynasty leagues.

Eno Sarris: Dude could walk 10%, strike out 14%, ISO .175, and steal 30 bases next year.

Ol Sea Cap’n: What happened to Sean Manaea? He was supposed to be the choosen one and ended up with no hand, no leg and burning from lava thanks to Obi Wan. No, serious – wtf?

Eno Sarris: spin down, velo down, I think he’s hurting.

ATCQ: A few years ago we all sneered at RAJ and the Phillies FO for not blowing it up.  Then it was the Reds, then the Tigers, now the Royals, Jays, and O’s.  How much are these teams hurting themselves by running against the wind trying to contend when the rosters just don’t have the talent?

Eno Sarris: The Royals are one thing. They don’t even have anything in the minors, so this was one last go at it before they try to restock the minors and go again. Jays just ran up quickly on the end of a window. The O’s… they just keep doing this, keep trying to field decent teams, and they surprise in any given year because they’re really good at putting a pen together.

D.B. Sweeney as Shoeless Joe: Dave said Judge’s BASELINE is a top 3 hitter going forward. Seems a little aggressive considering we don’t know if the prolonged slumps are a result of pitchers adjusting or will be habitual in the future. What do you think?

Eno Sarris: I’m a little biased against strikeouts so I’d rather put him in the top five or something. A guy with that many whiffs seems like he has an exploitable hole or two.

JDX: Votto is crazy. His RE24 is 17.5% higher than the next closest player, Paul Goldschmidt.    His REWins are 14.1% higher than the next closest player, Mike Trout.

Eno Sarris: Yeah I mean if we want to talk perfect hitter, walking 20% of the time and striking out 12% of the time with power is more likely to get my love.

Troutmaggedon: More impressive season: Gary Sanchise 2016 or 2017?

Eno Sarris: Doing it the second time, for twice as long, is more impressive than the heights he reached in his debut.

Josh Nelson: Who are you secretly rooting for this postseason?

Eno Sarris: The Rockies, because Coors is the worst. The Diamondbacks because they have a sneaky good rotation and a good lineup. The Twins because their rotation and bullpen is so bad. The Indians because they are so good everywhere.

2-D: Is there anything to draw from that potentially only five AL teams will finish with a winning record?

Eno Sarris: The race for the middle became the race to mediocrity?

Anthony: So, you tied the line on this a bit, but would you personally be willing to hire Warthen as a pitching coach if you had a vacancy?

Eno Sarris: I’d rather have a guy that made good pitchers than a guy who claims he can make healthy pitchers because I’m not sure the science is there for making healthy pitchers.

Tiger Fanatic: How long a rebuild do you think Detroit is looking at, given the talent they’ve acquired the last two months?

Eno Sarris: I don’t think they did as well as the Yankees in some ways. Or at least, the guys they got aren’t as close. I think they’re a few years out still.

Eno Sarris: Who are yesterday’s feast or famine guys?

Troutmaggedon: How do you feel about Puig’s season? If he had a .330 BABIP people would be talking about him as a high draft pick next year. Think he has a true “break out” in him?

Eno Sarris: This is exactly the season I thought he had in him, and yeah with that BABiP he’d be a three-plus win guy. Not sure there’s much left beyond this. There might always be a little bit of bone headedness that gnaws away at his value, like the -7.8 base stealing runs he’s got this year.

Brad: A BIG thank you for your SP tiers earlier in the year.  I did tiers for my bats in draft but followed your SP tiers to the tee.  I had a great year in pitching and you helped me win.  Much appreciated.

Eno Sarris: Thanks! If things settle down for me in any of my jobs, I’ll do more tiers next year.

Shawn: What’s the next beer craze after the NEIPA calms down?

Eno Sarris: I love hoppy sours, but sours really are a yah/no black and white thing for people. Dunno.

Eno Sarris: 2019. All of a sudden they’re going to have a really exciting bat core with a little more on the way. Just need some of these pitchers to figure it out.

Eno Sarris: I wonder what’s going on there. the wild fluctuations in power, with his current nearly two grounders for every fly ball, but great plate discipline, makes him a weird player.

Eno Sarris: 150-200 is an okay spike, but no, not really. dude is young and on fire.

Eno Sarris: Keep doing what he’s doing because it seems a bit fragile and I wouldn’t f with it.

Kris: Whit Merrifield this year a good Albies fantasy comp going forward?

Eno Sarris: At 28, coming off a peak season, with less patience than Albies… I’ll take Albies.

Eno Sarris: Who knew that all he had to do was lose 20 pounds. Also, I nearly puked at ‘your boy.’

Webster: Is Mike Montgomery a few more ks/9 away from being a good mid rotation piece? And how could he get there?

Eno Sarris: Hard to say. You could say ‘command’ but that’s not easy to change. He told me that he’s willing to walk a guy in relief appearances because he’s just got to get through one inning, so I guess maybe he could be better as a starter because he’d have a different mindset.

Steve O: Where do you stand on the “Aaron Judge is the most unclutch player ever” spectrum?

Eno Sarris: It’s weird because a) he’s league average in clutch situations, so we’re penalizing him for being so damn good in other situations and b) I’m not sure that clutch has adjusted to the new reality in baseball, the fifth/sixth inning reliever, and how that affects the leverage of each moment later in the game.

J.D. Martin: Alonso had posted K rates of around 13% the last 4 years before this, where he’s at 23% with the new swing.  Am I wrong to think there’s some nice upside there for next year if he rediscovers some of contact ability?

Eno Sarris: Trying to nail this down in research, it’s tough, but I do think that there’s something about his new launch angle and contact point that does create more swing and miss.

Oddball Herrera: Speaking of Albies, you’ve probably got a clear tier 1 at 2B of Altuve, Rizzo (and his black magic 2B eligibility), Dozier, Murphy, J. Ramirez.  Is Albies in the Gordon/Merrifield/Schoop/Cano tier 2?  Lower? Higher (tier 1.5)?

Eno Sarris: I think I might go Altuve Rizzo Ramirez as one tier, then the next tier is Murphy Dozier … guess that’s a half tier, the real next drop is your Gordon Merrifield Cano Schoop section. What I’d want to do is peace out after Ramirez and hope to get Albies or Merrifield later on.

Corey: Do Yankees just try again with Bird in 2018, or is his injury history predictive?

Eno Sarris: Nothing predicts future injury like past injury, but nothing predicts future injury all that way, particularly in position players. They held on to him for a reason and even in a bad year, his walk, strikeout, Iso, and GB/FB numbers suggest he can be a fine bat.

Game of Crons: Pick one to regress, one to repeat performance and one to improve: Elvis Andrus, Chris Taylor, Travis Shaw.

Eno Sarris: Taylor repeat/improve, Andrus repeat/regress, Shaw regress.

Kuhl man: Is Chad Kuhl showing potential for you or is he still a backend starter?

Eno Sarris: He’s been a lot better since he added the curve. I’ll put him in the 60-75 area.

JJ: Are you into Jake Junis for next year? What’s his upside?

Eno Sarris: He’s pretty boring, but in a good way. I could see him being a league average starer next year, maybe a little better except for the homers.

Tim Tebow’s Thunder Thighs: Who is your pick for the next guy to come out of nowhere – by luck or peak – to win a Cy Young or MVP, then never compete for it again?  I’m talking about guys like Rick Porcello last year, Jimmy Rollins in ’07, Pat Hentgen in ’96.

Eno Sarris: I’d look in the 15-30 range for staring pitchers, there are a ton: Michael Wacha, Gerrit Cole, Drew Pomeranzy, Dylan Bundy, Kevin Gausman…. those guys all have the stuff to put together a nasty season.

Eno Sarris: It was supposed to be the Mets with John Olerud, Edgardo Alfonzo, Robin Ventura and Rey Ordonez haha

Eno Sarris: Peanut butter milk stout! Would love to have four ounces of that, but always feel overwhelmed by the end of a full bottle/pint.

Batflips for BB: At what age, in general, would you say that a prospect should be moved on from? I’m particularly thinking about Maikel Franco

Eno Sarris: Age? Or number of PA in the major leagues? Dude is only 25, so I don’t think he’s reached the give up age yet. But he’s had 1200+ plate appearances since he was last better than average, so I’m giving him next season and that’s it.

Jsal: Does J-Up stay with the Angels?

Eno Sarris: I’ve heard SF but he told me specifically he doesn’t like to hit in AT&T park because of batter’s eye issues.

Big Joe Mufferaw: Why does it seem like Judge isn’t getting the MVP love he deserves?? The guy is a STUD! in both metrics and counting stats

Eno Sarris: It’s him or Altuve, and I don’t think it’s an easy decision at all.

Jimmy Ballgame: Quick question….How many games would a team filled with 0 WAR players win?

Eno Sarris: I forget exactly, you can google Dave Cameron replacement level baseball reference and you’ll find that we aligned our replacement levels, and I think it mentions how many wins. I think it’s around 40.

Kris: Sorry – I meant do you see Albies putting up numbers next year like Merrifield did this year?  That’s like top 40 production from a 21 year old, if so

Eno Sarris: It’s probably his 75th percentile projection, for Albies, since he didn’t steal right away and getting to 18 homers requires some power projection, but that sort of season wouldn’t surprise me at all. I’m in the tank for Albies.

Steve O: Is Andrew Benintendi overrated? He’s 5th in WAR among rookies behind Haniger and Chapman and half a win behind Montgomery, yet most see him as a future star.

Eno Sarris: I think there’s more power coming, and an all around game like his, right out of the gate, is very enticing.

Bird: I have been looking pretty good recently. Are my last 2 weeks the real me?

Eno Sarris: Just look at bb, k, gb, fb. There’s something to like here.

Nic: Curious for your take on the MVP race and why?

Eno Sarris: Man, it’s just a little sliver between the two. I might pick Altuve because I get more of a well-rounded feel from him. There’s no minuses on his record, really.

Eno Sarris: That was a pretty damn good infield, but also decently old.

S: Today for lunch I had some leftover BBQ from last night (chicken and pork) with a mild poblano salsa. What would you do with those ingredients to make an amazing sandwich?

Eno Sarris: Might just play with the starch, like put it on a pretzel bun to give it a different feel. can’t put sweet or spicy in there because it would get swallowed up. So, what you think: cheddar, lettuce, chicken and pork, salsa, pretzel bun. I want that!

CW: Eno – not sure how to feel about Jake Lamb going into next year.  Hes basically been the same player in 2016 & 2017.  Do you think he ever puts together 2 good halves in one season, or is his final line more representative?

Eno Sarris: I’d like to ask him about his second half fades. Or at least look to see if he’s pitched differently.

Eno Sarris: Sixth by straight WAR. If Andrus takes a step back with the bat, or Cozart… then again, Javy Baez, Xander Bogaerts could make an adjustment and zoom by him. I’d say yes: likely top five next year. But maybe not in perpetuity.

Travis: I’m starting to think Gohara is going to be really, really good.

Eno Sarris: He flashes plus plus plus for sure. Overall his changeup is still pretty meh. But if he could add two inches of drop to it, it would be average, four inches and it’s plus. Maybe if he just adds two inches but actually is consistent with it…

Marcus Banks: The 09 Yanke infield was reasonably young with cano and Tex. ARod and Jetes were still among the best at their position.

Ray Kinsella: Luis Perdomo has 4 hits this season – 3 triples and 1 double. I like to think he was thrown out trying to stretch the double into a triple.

Eno Sarris: I’d rather have Toles, I think. He’s a forgotten man but Bellinger will be at first and he’ll be in the OF I think.

Eno Sarris: Ah yeah because of qualifying. Well, Simmons may not have an above-average bat next year, so there are three guys that could regress.

Eno Sarris: Could just be a question of usage. Maybe they use their sliders in counts that lead to grounders. Then again, Oakland plus sliders… who’s got one? They love their curveballs.

Eno Sarris: Albies or Bregman for me. Something about Ramirez’ body type makes me think second baseman.

troutmaggedon: Is this year a win for the Angels? Even though the WC2 spot was totally up for grabs to be in a race with a week left is unexpected. And their farm system is showing signs of life.

Eno Sarris: It was surprising for sure. They got some outfield bats coming, huh? Would like for their pitching to be healthy at the same time next year.

Bryan: Do the Nationals make Werth a bench bat in the playoffs?  His defense is sub-par and old man strength only takes you so far

Eno Sarris: Have to wonder if the Robles callup was partially about him, but Robles has started once in the last week. Lind has an outfield start. I guess Kendrick could take his ABs, maybe take him out early for DeAza?

Keith Hernandez: Will teams start shying away from rebuilding around young pitching?  Two recent examples I can think of off the top of my head are the 2010-13 Braves and the 2014-15 Mets.  Both had success but everyone got injured and it imploded.  Will the focus go more to the Yanks/Cubs mold of stocking young hitters and plugging in pitching as you go along?

Eno Sarris: I think pitching injuries just make it hard to open a window and count on players to be at least decent in a certain timeframe.

Eno Sarris: Dude is 21 and projected for .276/.325/.448 from Steamer. Not at all a stretch to think he could .300/.375/.500 at some point, imo. Cut some Ks (track record for that) hit for more power (track record) walk (same).

Buck Turgidson: Are you suddenly as giddy as I re a downtown Oakland ballpark?

Eno Sarris: Five years tho.

JDX: By wRC+, I think Votto/Gennett/Cozart/Suarez actually better than Perez/Morgan/Concepcion/Rose.

Eno Sarris: I don’t see much to love other than velo. It’s a good place to start but his secondaries are pretty meh.

Eno Sarris: I could see him having a good OBP but yeah I don’t think he’ll be a fantasy great.

Nl mvp: Rendon & seager seem absurd…teams win by a mile without them (and their stats are so nice because their teams are so good). Why do they get so much attention for the award?

Eno Sarris: Having players on base does lead to better outcomes, even in advanced stats. I wonder how to look at that and tease it out.

Marshall: Why is nobody talking about the NL Cy Young race? I think it comes down to Kershaw vs Scherzer, but I think it will be a coing flip. Who would you pick? Who do you think wins?

Eno Sarris: If Kershaw is in there, then Strasburg is in there too. But Max has thirty innings on them, I guess that’s why we don’t hear as much.

Eno Sarris: Danny Salazar seems close. A little surprised about Gonzo but the shoulder is hurting I guess.

Doug: Prediction for where Ohtani lands?

Eno Sarris: Yankees.

Dylan: All this talk about the MVP, I’m more interested in the LVP race. Is it Pujols? Maikel Franco? CarGo? Alcides Escobar?

Eno Sarris: If you factor in contract and team need/standings situation, hard not to stare a hole into Pujols. Which is nuts because that dude was everything when he first came up. No Ks, all BBs, so much power to all fields. He was so awesome.

Good team bias: Hitters on good teams, especially good offenses, have a very real advantage in stats since they face worse relievers (more mop up guys, fewer closers) that players on average or bad teams

Eno Sarris: There’s a way to tease it out some: strength of competition. We can do that. But I was also talking about how outcomes are better with people on base, and having people on base hurts the ability of the defending team to shift…

Dylan: If the MVP needs to be on a playoff team, than so should the LVP. It’s Matt Weiters

Justino: If Pujols were a free agent at the end of the 2017 season, would anyone offer him a major league contract? Would his situation be more desirable to have on your team than Bautista, simply because he’s a first ballot HOF’er, or is the production simply too awful?

Eno Sarris: I think he’d still get one of those 1/7, 2/15 type deals.
