Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 9/4/14
11:51 |
:
|
11:51 |
: see you in ten
|
12:01 |
Are you drunk…like right now? |
12:01 |
: Haha 9am West Coast time. I’m a derelict, but not that much of one.
|
12:01 |
Just lost Starlin for the year. In first place and HR/RBI most needed categories. Replace him with Alicedes, Mercer, or B. Crawford? All are on roster and fairly interchangeable. Not much else on wire. thanks! |
12:02 |
: If you have them all on the roster, play Mercer against lefties, Alcides the rest of the time and drop Crawford lol.
|
12:02 |
How hard is it to move up in Avg this late? In 3rd and 7 points back. Sitting with 3pts at .261 and guy that has 9pts is at .269. Could move Darvish and Calhoun for Posey. 12 team roto dynasty standard 5×5. |
12:02 |
: Do the math but naw you’re probably not making that one up.
|
12:02 |
Which player this year, positively or negatively, is producing runs at a rate farthest from his true talent level? |
12:03 |
: Bruce or Harper on the negative side.
|
12:04 |
: I think probably Brantley will take the biggest step back among the top 100. Or Span.
|
12:04 |
You picking up what Carlos Carrasco is putting down? |
12:04 |
: Have been since March. Three legit secondary pitches and 95+ on the fastball.
|
12:04 |
I got some sublime for ya. Bbq bacon mushroom burger with onion straws and buffalo spiced fries for lunch. Boom. |
12:04 |
Eno baby, bring us your sultry tones |
12:04 |
IF YOU LUDE ME UP, IF YOU LUDE ME UP I NEVER STOP |
12:04 |
: Epic early luding.
|
12:05 |
How do you view Puig in a dynasty league? This recent slump is bad. |
12:05 |
: The ground-ball rate is a little worrisome, but I think he’s shown enough that I’d pencil him in for .290/20-25/10+ next year. Still a top talent.
|
12:05 |
: (Because you could expect him to hit more fly balls, according to GB aging and his age.)
|
12:05 |
Is Jason Kipnis a bounce back candidate? |
12:06 |
: Yes. Good news is he kept stealing bags. I think the power outage was an oblique thing.
|
12:06 |
Is this what Freddie Freeman is or is there more there? |
12:06 |
: THIS IS IT Make no mistake where you are, THIS IS IT
|
12:07 |
Do you think the Mariners can pass the A’s for the first WC? 3.5 back with 3 games against them left |
12:07 |
: I think the A’s have a little more life in them yet. Moss needs to find his bat, and Lowrie lost his all year. There are enough dudes on the wrong side of their career mean suddenly that you could expect some positive regression.
|
12:08 |
Thoughts on Derek Holland’s first start? Safe to roll him out at home to Seattle on Sunday? |
12:11 |
: oh god, time for a new computer
|
12:12 |
: I had to check Holland’s velocity and everything died. But yeah, it was fine. And he even threw a bunch of curves. Yes, you can throw him.
|
12:12 |
the Problem is a PIC-NIC (Person in chair, not in computer) |
12:12 |
: HEY.
|
12:12 |
Woah, a song I know…..and love! Bravo, Eno! |
12:13 |
: And yet there’s someone bugging me about it. Sublime was the thing when I was in college out here in California, what can I say.
|
12:13 |
Who on the DL can safely be dropped at this point? |
12:13 |
: Most! (Please be more specific)
|
12:13 |
Why do you think Boston signed Castillo without even giving Betts a fair shot to win the CF job? Was it simply a case of him being available and the Red Sox adding one more viable option, or have they possibly soured internally on Mookie? Perhaps I’m blinded by my undying love for Betts, but I feel like he’ll be the better player of the two when the dust settles… |
12:14 |
: I agree! I think it was the opportunity to spend cash to acquire high-end talent under market price, as they saw it. They can always trade Cespedes or Betts, people would line up for that.
|
12:14 |
Still can’t believe Danny Santana has done this through ~350 PA |
12:15 |
: If he can play a scratch shortstop, he might even be productive next year. But yeah, a .384 BABIP is not going to happen again. True talent .270 guy with 5/30 type stats next year.
|
12:15 |
Is Buxton going to provide the Twins with anything before 2016? |
12:15 |
: Maybe a short stint in the second half next year. He needs to reboot.
|
12:15 |
Is Aaron Sanchez doing his best ’08 David Price impression? What do his numbers look like next year? |
12:16 |
: He throws a ton of sinkers so his strikeout rate is never going to be as nice as Price’s IMO. Also, He has about 20% of the command of Price.
|
12:16 |
Thoughts on the De La Rosa signing for the Rockies? |
12:17 |
: Eh. I had some hope for him in fantasy because he has three secondary pitches that are above average by whiff rates, but now he’s back in Colorado, which makes his curve riskier and his bad fastball worse. In real life, he’s fine, he’s made it work in Colorado and he’s not breaking the bank. But eh.
|
12:17 |
Lude me once, shame on you. Lude me twice, I WANT SOME MORE |
12:17 |
I might be a simple, country Space Chicken, but I know when someone’s finger-licked: Puig looks hurt. |
12:17 |
in·ter·lude noun \?in-t?r-?lüd\ : a period of time between events or activities : a brief romantic or sexual meeting or relationship |
12:17 |
: well we can get romantical if you like
|
12:18 |
:
|
12:18 |
Two questions on Tanner Roark: is he being shut down this year, and is this his peak? |
12:19 |
: He doesn’t need to be shut down for innings, so I don’t think so. The only thing that worries me is that his two-seamer doesn’t have great peripherals. So I’m a little worried about the BABIP, just a little.
|
12:19 |
Span wRC+ of 114 – how low could that be with his CF D and he’s still worth the $9M option in 2015? 100? 95? |
12:20 |
: Oh in real life, he’s fine and will be worth the option. Even around 95 I think.
|
12:20 |
bareburger NYC. best burger ive ever had- bison, brisket, chiptole barbecue sauce and some onion rings on there. oh and solid craft beer selection. DO IT |
12:20 |
Why is Edwin Jackson so bad? Above average fastball, sinker, slider, changeup, and curveball by whiffs. |
12:20 |
: Command I’m guessing.
|
12:20 |
sorry– looking at the leaderboard carson mentioned with 100 rbi seasons and negative war… was dante bichette that bad of a fielder? |
12:21 |
: One year D things create all sorts of head-scratchers. But Brady Anderson once hit 50 homers.
|
12:21 |
*loud barking* |
12:21 |
: DMX OVER KENNY G MASHUP
|
12:22 |
Pick one: Beer. Baseball. |
12:22 |
: Beer. I like basketball too.
|
12:22 |
re: bichette. how could his OFF that season be negatvie? he slugged over .500, batted over .300, etc. |
12:22 |
: Park adjustments.
|
12:22 |
Eno! How many PA until ISO normalizes? BB% and K%? |
12:23 |
: ISO is about 550. K is first around 100 and BB around 150 or 200 I think.
|
12:23 |
With strikeouts way up, whiffs are probably way up. Have the benchmarks significantly changed on what an average pitch is? The Hardball Times benchmarks are from 2011. |
12:23 | : We re-ran them this year. Twice! |
12:23 |
: Also, called strikes are a major source of the strikeout increase.
|
12:23 |
Dynasty league with a waiver priority of 1, I could grab Finnegan or Pompey now or wait for Castillo to be called up. Waiting for Castillo is the best move? |
12:24 |
: I like Pompey’s ceiling the best if that’s what you’re after. If you need SP holds, I like Finnegan for this year.
|
12:24 |
For all the talk about the Orioles’ overplaying this year (which is true), what has been lost is the fact that they have the fifth-highest Baseruns expected win% in MLB. Hmmm… Did I have a question? |
12:24 |
: Interesting!
|
12:24 |
Kris Bryant finished his year with the same number of plate appearances between AA and AAA (297 each). Kris Bryant’s three-true-outcome rate was 49% (14.5% BB; 27.3% K; 7.2% HR). Kris Bryant is awesome. |
12:25 |
: The K rate is still a little worrisome. Just look at Baez.
|
12:25 |
Want to be excited about the Mets. Nice young talent. Good farm system. But Sandy has proven to be (unfortunately) remarkably inept at evaluating Major League talent. His trades for major leaguers have been awful, his free agent signings have been horrific or worse, and hes only gotten lucky on Marlon Byrd. So I have no faith that even if they do open their wallets that he will actually select the right players. Nobody thought Marcum, Francisco, Young, Granderson, Colon, Rauch, and so on and so on were good deals. And I didnt think then that keeping Wright was a sound decision and unfortunately its proving to be true sooner than expected. You like the Mets. Tell me something different. My football team sucks, so I am going to need good news this winter. |
12:27 |
: I thought Colon was fine, and he’ll be worth his contract this year. Granderson looks bad now. The rest cost about a buck. The young pitching is amazing, and they need a bat or two. I don’t think David Wright is done yet. And some of the worst deals have a whiff of ownership about them. I learned that most in the FO wanted to deal Reyes, for example. So, to some extent, the Wilpons will always be a problem. And to another, there’s plenty of reason to be excited. DeGrom! Harvey! Wheeler!
|
12:27 |
AJ Pollock usage rest of year? Crowded OF now that Ender and Peralta are playing well no? |
12:27 |
: yeah and he’s a vs LHP guy if they do platoons.
|
12:28 |
![]() Go easy on the computer, Eno. |
12:28 |
At this point, who are the possibilities for beating Kershaw out for MVP? Is it now only Stanton? |
12:29 |
: There’s some love for Lucroy. If the Pirates go nuts, Cutch could still slide in there. But yeah, CK is looking good.
|
12:29 |
Who gets the two wild cards in the NL? |
12:30 |
: Giants a lock. No idea about the second, but for some reason I still like my preseason pick of the Pirates.
|
12:30 |
Do you think any team in baseball is better than the Nats? |
12:30 |
: Well two teams have more wins, and I think the Athletics are close, but A’s and Angels have the most to argue about here.
|
12:30 |
Do you like the difference in play between AL and NL baseball or would you prefer uniformity? |
12:31 |
: Stuff like this does give the opportunity for front offices to find a way to game the system, I think. It’s like park factors. I definitely don’t want parks to be all the same. So I like some differences.
|
12:31 |
Why isnt it when you are overperforming your career means its regression (youll go back) but when you are underperforming your career means you dont say “progressing” to the mean (as im going forward) |
12:32 |
: Because progressing suggests you are moving into new ground. You regress from below your mean back to the mean.
|
12:32 |
Is Wacha a good buy low, or does he scare you? |
12:32 |
: If I could build a perfect young pitcher, he’d be Hamels or Wacha. Both had injury events this year, so shows what I know. But I still like Wacha and consider him a buy low, yes.
|
12:32 |
How do you feel about a pitcher striking out more batters (87) than he has not struck out (80) in a season? |
12:32 |
: Like a little bit tingly.
|
12:33 |
Can we discuss the showering situation in Jamaica again? I’m still confused. You always had cold showers? Is it always hot outside where you lived? |
12:34 |
: Our plumbing in Jamaica was above ground and we didn’t have water heaters. If you had a shower during the day, it would be hot as heck. I usually showered at the end of the day, so cold showers.
|
12:34 |
In alphabetical order it’s Trevor Bauer, Carlos Carrasco, TJ House, Corey Kluber & Danny Salazar. With House being the # 5, who are #’s 1 through # 4 in 2015? |
12:35 |
: Kluber Salazar Carrasco Bauer, but it’s a great group and my pick for the division next year — if they can spend a bit on offense. one thing about Bauer — his changeup peripherals are not great.
|
12:35 |
Sandwich place we ordered lunch from was out of Falafel. Capital offense? |
12:35 |
Different 90’s goodness: http://youtu.be/z56OiPR4r2s |
12:35 |
“We can get romantically if you like” is a line I’m trying on my wife. |
12:35 |
Carlos Carrasco? Carlos Carrasco! |
12:35 |
: All the emotions in one little place.
|
12:35 |
what do you think, one more Smyly start? |
12:36 |
: Yes I think, if that.
|
12:36 |
I’m sorry, but this is going to be a little long winded. Need some advice on keepers. We do two round inflation (UDFA are last round), but say you have two guys with round 19 status, you have to keep one in round 18. I traded away my stars for picks. OBP/HR/RBI/SB/R,QS/K/SV/ERA/WHIP. I can keep 4,who do I keep? Wheeler (11), Lynn (14), Gomes (15), Lackey (19), R. Davis (19), Aybar (19), Hughes (19), Duffy (19), Nelson (19), Holland (15), Blackmon (19), Arrieta (19), Baez (13), Gausman (17). |
12:37 |
: Wheeler, Blackmon, Baez, Arrieta? Holland, Arrieta, Gausman, Duffy, Hughes all sorta interesting in that last spot.
|
12:37 |
LoMo is simply not going to produce in the manner we’d hope his contact rates implied he could. So sad. |
12:37 |
: He’s never been the same after the knee stuff started happening.
|
12:37 |
I love Brian Kenny, but he was railing against the three true outcomes during one airing of his Clubhouse Confidential show last year. He was blabbing on and on about how we should watch fielders chase balls around the yard. I think Ks are fun, even as high as K rates have spiked. Agree or disagree with BK? |
12:38 |
: I don’t mind TTO as long as there are some HR. TTO without the HR gets a little… boring.
|
12:38 |
![]() |
12:38 |
: Huh.
|
12:38 |
Remember your ankle injury, ever rehab that sucker? Cuz if you didn’t once the weather starts changing you’ll feel like there’s a barometer in there. |
12:39 |
: Oh no. I’ll just say this: the longer you go without a significant injury to the body part, the better your prognosis when it happens, unless you’re talking old man. Or at least that’s what I’ll tell myself because it is at least true for Tommy John — the earlier you have it, the more likely you are to have it again.
|
12:39 |
Keep seeing buzz about Urias in the bigs some time in 2015, this is wishcasting right? |
12:39 |
: He’s so young. I doubt it.
|
12:40 |
who would do better as a starter, Chapman or Betances |
12:40 |
: Chapman’s change has been pretty nasty, and he’s had less failure in terms of trying it, so I’ll take him.
|
12:40 |
Who is a more valuable player Christian Yelich or Gregory Polanco? Who will be more valuable in the future? Also would you rather have the Pittsburgh or Miami OF? |
12:41 |
: I like this questions. I think Yelich might be more valuable because I think he’ll hit for more power soon. Once he does, then you have three really good outfielders, all with defense and power and speed. But the same could be said for the Pirates! Because all three Pirates can play center, I’ll take them by a whisker.
|
12:42 |
: (This is assuming GP is in the Pitt OF.)
|
12:42 |
Mookie Betts’ plate discipline numbers look pretty good. That was expected, right? |
12:42 |
: Yes. He walked more than he struck out for a large part of his MiLB career.
|
12:42 |
What are the odds that the Yankees make the playoffs? |
12:42 | : Right now we have them at 3.6%. |
12:43 |
IF healthy, is Eaton a 4 win player? |
12:43 |
: You can’t really pencil him in for health, though. I think he might do that once or twice, but I’m not going to make him a true talent four win guy right now.
|
12:44 |
Jordan Schafer, what Bourn was supposed to be? |
12:44 |
: Nah. The K% means he’s going to plummet.
|
12:44 |
Thoughts on Jesse Hahn next year? |
12:45 |
: I think he can throw that curve for strikes, which is huge for called strikes. I’d like to see more of the change. I know some people say he’s a reliever, and that means you have to be careful with your investment, but I like him. And Tyson Ross looks like a reliever to me.
|
12:45 |
re: regression… well, that, and “regression to the mean” is the name for the statistical concept we’re using. There’s no “progression to the mean” concept. |
12:45 |
It looks like Darvish is done for the season. Do you think he’ll be ready for 2015? |
12:45 |
: Sure. Unless this next meeting with the doctor goes badly. IF it does. no!
|
12:45 |
I know you’re a big fan of New Glarus. Have you tried their Scream DIPA? It’s pretty spectacular. |
12:45 |
: yes I liked it
|
12:45 |
You should open a wine store called Eno’s Pinots. |
12:46 |
: Or just Enoteca/Eno — tons of wine places with my name on it. The first word for wine in the west was eno.
|
12:46 |
Media and Derek Jeter’s impending retire: not enough coverage, or definitely not enough coverage? |
12:46 |
: All of the words.
|
12:46 |
If that? Am I not starting this weekend? |
12:47 |
: I guess so. But it’s sort of crazy, unless they’re using an average of the last two seasons to figure out his IP limit. (even then)
|
12:47 |
Mike Trout has a TTO rate of 48% this season. Who says TTO players are boring?!?!?!?!? |
12:47 |
HANG ON TO YOUR ENO. HANG ON, BUT I KNOW YOU’RE GOING TO LOSE THE FIGHT. |
12:47 |
Part of me just wants to move away and become a fisherman like Andy at the end of Shawshank |
12:47 |
also, there should be a TTO% leaderboard |
12:47 |
Do you see the Dodgers moving any OFs this offseason to make room for Pederson? |
12:47 |
: Yeah I think they’ll eat some cash on Ethier.
|
12:48 |
What would GM Sarris do with the current club to bring Jays fans a playoff game in 2015? |
12:49 |
: Look for bullpen bargains to shore that thing up, bring all the young arms into spring and hope one turns into an ace. You already have the 3/4/5 of the rotation locked down. You just need a 1/2. Don’t have the money to buy that, I doubt. So you hope a youngster does it. Pompey/Gose in CF, try to re-sign Melky because his contact sets table for sluggers. Maybe buy a third baseman with a little pop as Lawrie insurance.
|
12:49 |
Worst part of the De La Rosa deal in COL is that it probably signifies there won’t be a front office shakeup. Greattttt…. |
12:49 |
: Yes.
|
12:49 |
Chances Uehara and/or Benoit shut down for the season? |
12:50 |
: Benoit very high. I would assume he’s done. Uehara still around, but I bet he could get shut down soon.
|
12:50 |
The A’s and Tigers had to play one more elimination game to make it a proper trilogy. |
12:51 |
What do the next few years look like in terms of my production? |
12:52 |
: Same. I think the work vs RHP this year is a little step forward, but plate discipline still bad and swinging strike rate suggests more Ks as he gets post peak.
|
12:52 |
Scott Kazmir’s last few starts have been terrible. Is there something wrong with him and would you start him in his next start in a H2H weekly playoff? |
12:52 |
: I talked to him about it a little, he’s not too worried. Velo still fine, and he’s now found something with his curve and is using it more. Only worrisome thing is a five-year IP high. (which would worry me more if it came with velocity loss)
|
12:52 |
MATT. DAMON. |
12:53 |
Any conclusion on the John Gibbons eyebrow scandal? |
12:53 |
: It seems gross to pencil in your eyebrows. I do things other people think are gross. Eh. (it did look a little funny)
|
12:53 |
I miss Joey Votto |
12:54 |
From your POV, what makes for a successful chat? |
12:54 |
: We have fun. Some interludes. Some music. I learn something. All boxes checked today.
|
12:55 |
Do you think Jonathan Schoop is going to improve much… or is he just meh? |
12:56 |
: Actually… he’s 22! He showed better walk rates in the minors, and may have a little more power growth left in him. I bet he could do some Hardy-esque things at second base soon.
|
12:56 |
Do you like Heaney for next year? |
12:56 |
: I need to see some good changeups. Sinker/Curve is better than sinker/slider but it’s still a pitch short.
|
12:56 |
DEREK JETER IS RETIRING??? |
12:56 |
Though the ending is unwritten, is there a better story for 2014 than the Royals? |
12:57 |
: Plenty of good stories. Beane finally going for it, pushing all in to get some hardware. Tigers trying to keep the window open desperately. Scrums in the centrals, with small teams and big teams.
|
12:58 |
What do the cubs have with a guy like Alcantara? Is he an everyday starter for them next season? |
12:58 |
: Needs to improve his strikeout rate, like every other young Cub. I think he can still be an infielder, and think he might stick around and be there after one of the other guys busts or moves to the OF.
|
12:58 |
What the heck happened to the Brewers? This collapse is beyond regression at this point. I’m trying to believe they can turn it around soon, but they aren’t giving me much to work with. |
1:00 |
: I think they didn’t quite have enough pitching. If you go by team FIP, they’re second-to-last in the NL. I know their home park makes it worse. But even by xFIP they’re no better than middle of the pack.
|
1:00 |
You heard it here first, Eno. The next trend in ballpark design is going to be futuristic. Sort of like a return to the 60’s parks that they thought would be futuristic but weren’t. Hopefully they’ll be cooler now. |
1:00 |
Which team is in bigger trouble, A’s or Tigers? A’s are def in…to the play-in game, Tigers have a decent chance to win division…I say the A’s are in the less favorable spot. |
1:00 |
: Actually I think it’s the Tigers. They are the closest to no spot.
|
1:01 |
Drop Janssen for Sanchez or Feliz? |
1:01 |
: Yes. Feliz for security but I think Sanchez will get more chances.
|
1:01 |
Juan Lagares being forced to be more aggressive. Decent bet for a 270/10/20 with a 330 obp type line full year? Still much better real life (platinum glover) than fantasy huh. |
1:02 |
: Yeah he’ll be a deep leaguer unless he has a crazy BABIP year.
|
1:02 |
Where would Shields need to end up to make him worth owning in fantasy leagues next season? |
1:03 |
: Hole up. If you don’t have to spend a ton to get James Shields, he’s ownable in all leagues. The question is just how much you’ll want to spend. (I bet the Royals reup for some reason)
|
1:03 |
There are few things cooler than Quackenbush closing and all the Padres fans do the Quack chant. Who knew that would be the best thing going for them this year? |
1:03 |
: There are some other percolations, like Hahn, but that’s a fun one.
|
1:03 |
i dont get the matt damon joke, but everytime i see it i chuckle a bit |
1:03 |
: (me neither)
|
1:04 |
In 129 MLB plate appearances, Javier Baez has made contact on 42.5% of pitches swung at out of the strike zone. MLB average is 65.8%. Strategy: Throw him more ballz. |
1:04 |
Tweaking for playoff week. Which gives you more production in OBP league: JD Martinez 3@MIN, 3@KC Fowler 4vCLE, 3vSEA |
1:04 |
: better than twerking for the playoffs. JDM going into power suppressing parks, I’ll take Fowler’s OBP.
|
1:04 |
Beane pushing all in for hardware…and yet might last 1 playoff game |
1:04 |
: So it could still be a sad story, yes. But compelling!
|
1:05 |
So the Brewers’ playoffs probability is now ks ago? Wasn’t it close to 100%? |
1:05 |
: We show them at 45.4% right now.
|
1:05 |
Talking about the Mets future, you put deGrom in the same category as Wheeler and Harvey. Is he a potential #2 or 3 starter going forward? |
1:05 |
: I am drinking the coolaid. Good change, good curve, great velocity and command.
|
1:05 |
does castro’s injury change anything about how the cubs’ prospect position backlog will shake out? might baez stick at SS and castro becomes tradeable? or does it show that castro needn’t be the only one considered there (and open up russell’s chances of staying at SS)? |
1:06 |
: I think they’ll keep them all until one busts and just spend their money and fringe attention on pitching.
|
1:06 |
Joe Panik = the next Daniel Murphy? No power shown yet but possible? |
1:06 |
: More Scutaro. Piece up now I think.

lawrie is going to come back next year and be a top 10 2B option in fantasy? |
1:06 |
: I’ll have a share or two but woof on the health. Don’t spend real money on him.
|
1:07 |
how much will it hurt to have several high K guys in the same lineup (2015 cubs, for instance). does it make one player’s high K’s particularly worse for team outcomes? |
1:07 |
: I believe I’ve seen research that shows that a diverse lineup (contact and power) outdoes a one-note lineup. You can even take guys with the same wOBA and simulate them and the diverse lineup wins.
|
1:07 |
Did I miss something? Is Casey Janssen out in TOR |
1:08 |
: yes I think so. Shoulder woes, strikeouts gone, Sanchez sexy.
|
1:08 |
Juan Lagares has a higher WAR per plate appearence than Giancarl Stanton!! Including team control and price, might he actually be the more valuable player? How much anual WAR can we expect from Juan going forward? |
1:09 |
: When so much of your value is tied up in defense, you need to wait a little bit longer to make prognostications like that. Defense peaks early, and the stats need larger samples. I think Juan is more 2-4 wins a year, which is great while he’s under team control. Particularly because arbitration probably won’t reward the things he does best.
|
1:09 |
Which has been a better managing job by Francona, getting last year’s decent squad to the wild card, or keeping this year’s dreadful squad in the hunt? |
1:10 |
: I like him. There’s something going on with that team. Next year might be big.
|
1:10 |
MATT. DAMON. is from Team America. That’s all the Matt Damon character said throughout the movie. Not one of Parker and Stone’s better achievements. |
1:10 |
: Hey the F Yeah song is great.
|
1:10 |
Gibby just said on The Fan that Janssen gets the save opp tonight in Tampa |
1:10 |
: Well then you better get Feliz. I think at the least that’s a timeshare.
|
1:10 |
My BA is shot. Better chance for homers the rest of the way: Adam Dunn, Zach Walters, Andy Wilkins, or Andrew Lambo? |
1:11 |
: Dunn. Then Walters.
|
1:11 |
Please rank the following pitchers as keeper candidates for next season: Dickey, Miley, Kennedy, Fister, J De La Rosa, Porcello, A Simon and Shoemaker. Thanks. |
1:12 |
: Porcello, Kennedy, Fister…. Shoemaker, Miley….. Simon Dickey JDLR
|
1:12 |
How much of a fantasy impact do you expect for Pompey to have in 2015? |
1:13 |
: I really like him. But He’s only had like 190 PAs above Double-A. Hard to think he’ll get the job from day one. But maybe by July. Gose just doesn’t make enough contact.
|
1:13 |
Freese looks spent and sgaring time now…do you think McGehee, Valencia, Schoop, Flores, Amarista or Lamb are worth the upgrade over final 3 weeks? |
1:13 |
: He’s only good vs lefties, so yeah, make a move. McG I guess. If BA will help. Schoop for power.
|
1:14 |
Any real possibility Hector Rondon could be a top 10 reliever next season? Should see plenty more save opps. |
1:14 |
: yeah but career means you can’t spend like he’ll be a top-10er. Probably will be on many of my squads though. Survived the Neil Ramirez threat.
|
1:14 |
I had the Brewers playoff odds question earlier. For some reason it got chopped up. What I said was that it’s 45.4% now, but wasn’t it close to 100% a few weeks ago? |
1:14 |
: Sure, but things change. The Tigers were over 95% at one point I think.
|
1:14 |
I recently used “drinking the kool aid” followed by “(does anyone drink actual kool aid these days?)” to defuse a fuzz of tension in an awkward email. |
1:18 |
: i swear it’s cover it live’s fault this time
|
1:18 |
: I said Gatorade is the new Kool Aid but it seems less funny now that I retype it.
|
1:19 |
: We lost a Brandon Phillips question, so I’ll just say: he’s 33 and peaked by wRC+ in 2011, so I think this was fairly predictable. Haven’t had a share of his in three years or so.
|
1:19 |
:
|
1:19 |
jay bruce went from being a reliable 30/8 guy to being terrible and striking out 5 times a game. will he be back to form? |
1:20 |
: He’s too young to count out next year. The Ks are becoming a problem, or always were, but injury was part of the story this year.
|
1:20 |
which sport’s fans would you think have the best poker players? worst? |
1:20 |
: Not baseball? Pitchers in particular have everyone looking at them.
|
1:20 |
its haterade |
1:20 |
Pitcher in the low minors with the highest ceiling? |
1:20 |
: Urias?
|
1:21 |
Matt Adams or Billy Butler ROS? Want to drop Adams to be able to stream someone. |
1:21 |
: Butler is a right-hander, so if you can platoon Adams with someone, then he’s preferable. But Adams so bad against lefties, I might just take Billy if it’s one spot.
|
1:21 |
h2h Quarterfinal, struggling for my pitching life thanks to some bombs this week. Need ks and wins. Doubrotn v Pitt or Burnett @ Was..or both? |
1:22 |
: Just AJ if you need to get lucky and keep your ERA in check.
|
1:22 |
Question about everyone’s favorite position: middle relief! Would you drop Joe Smith for either Will Smith or Ken Giles in a dynasty league? Priorities: holds this season, ratio help now and future, save potential next season. Any other sneaky RP recommendations? Thanks! |
1:23 |
: If you’re thinking about saves at all, Joe’s not your man. But Papelbon has held on despite declining peripherals. Maybe Giles is actually a 2016 closer. Will Smith is a lefty, but most holds this year, and the team could turn to him, so him.
|
1:23 |
No way Kyle Hendricks as good as he’s looked this season, right? What do you ultimately expect from him over time? Back end of the rotation starter numbers? |
1:24 |
: I mean he shut a team out with no strikeouts. I like that he actually has two change-ups, and the cutter is okay, so I like him. But more of a real life midrotation guy, and that means fantasy back rotation.
|
1:24 |
Eno, you are mistaken. Lucas Giolito is the best pitcher in the low minors with the highest ceiling. |
1:25 |
: Huh look at that I figured he was in Double-A already.
|
1:25 |
You think Rizzo will play any more this season? |
1:25 |
: If he does, it’s for a week at the end of the season. I bet no.
|
1:25 |
Shoemaker a tier below Kennedy in a keeper? Really? |
1:26 |
: The splitter is nice, but the fastball isn’t, and it’s relying on what some batters describe to me as jerky elbows and knees. I guess in Anaheim, it can play as much as Kennedy’s bad fastball, but Kennedy more track record.
|
1:26 |
OHHH YEEEEAAAAAHHHH!!!! |
1:26 |
Wouldn’t it be great if the A’s/Tigers elimination game goes, say, 24 innings, and the game cannot be finished or decided, so Beane and Dombrowski have to decide this with a game of Magic the Gathering, and we learn they have quietly been preparing for this the entire season? |
1:26 |
: Dombrowski just texted Beane a picture of a Magic card whale.
|
1:26 |
prepping for a champion run, pick 3 of these 4 to finish my rotation: T. Ross, Kazmir, Quintana, C. Carrasco; rotation is very top heavy (Felix, Lester, Cueto) |
1:27 |
: CC, Ross, Kaz. Q is nice, but with his home park and league, I’ll take Ross.
|
1:28 |
:
|
1:28 |
re: excuse me.nope, its a healthy jameson taillon |
1:28 |
: But is he healthy.
|
1:29 |
think Sanchez stays in the pen next year in Toronto, and if he does do you think he becomes the closer? |
1:29 |
: He’s going to throw 130+ innings this year. I think he, and Norris get a chance at the rotation. Stroman will be in, and one of the three need to be Great with a capital G.
|
1:30 |
Are we done seeing Votto as an elite player? |
1:30 |
: Fantasy maybe. Not in real life, not when the body heals.
|
1:30 |
Deep NL 5×5 …Spangenberger or Watkins ROS? |
1:30 |
: Watkins.
|
1:31 |
brewers getting lazy by adding spices to saisons instead of letting the yeast profile do the work for them? beer brewers, i mean. |
1:31 |
: Have been seeing this. At the same time, I just had Fresh Pots by Hennepin, a coffee saison where the smell was amazing, and the taste was refined, not at all heavy handed.
|
1:31 |
Favorite player to interview/talk to in league and why? |
1:32 |
: Quickly becoming Sam Fuld. Just has smart ideas and is upbeat and fun. I also love talking to Doolittle because he’s seen both sides and says things that nobody else says.
|
1:32 |
magic card whale: http://mtgcardsmith.com/vie… |
1:32 |
Clippard or Sanchez for H2H Championship? Points league, Holds worth 5, Saves 8. |
1:32 |
: Sanchez. Nasty, will get holds and or saves.
|
1:33 |
So, um, Hosmer. His rookie season and last year cannot have been total flukes. What gives? Can he be a productive 1b? |
1:34 |
: He’s just a grip it and rip it guy who’s slow to make adjustments and relies a bit too much on BABIP with his contact approach. So some years will be eh. And some years will be .295/18/5.
|
1:34 |
Real life, Quintana is a top __ SP? This year I keep telling people how good he is, but how all his circumstantials keep him from being fantasy elite. Also not a huge K guy, but whatevs, chicks dig the ball in play. |
1:34 |
: Seems like a legit number two, at least three. So top 75, top 50 maybe.
|
1:34 |
Who has most upside and how you would rank for the ROS? Khris Davis, Chris Carter, Josh Harrison and Brandon Moss. |
1:35 |
: Upside is Moss to go nuts for a month. I’d probably rank them Harrison Moss Davis just because Harrison high floor.
|
1:35 |
Doolittle has seen both sides and says things that nobody else says. I want an explanation (both sides) and an example (things that nobody else says). |
1:36 |
: Doolittle was a hitter in this league, and is now a pitcher. So he told me once that he throws the ball high in the zone because as a hitter all he was taught was to drop the bat head on the ball.
|
1:36 |
Better pitching mechanics, Alex Wood or this guy? Also, Alex Wood: ace? |
1:37 |
: I love Alex Wood but I wouldn’t trust him for a long-term contract or anything. Too many things going in different directions.
|
1:37 |
dude in our ottoneu pts league picked up the following for $1 each this year: seth smith, scott kazmir, josh harrison, adam laroche, lucas duda, and denard span. he pulled similar moves with josh donaldson and asdrubal cabrera in recent years. HOW DOES HE DO THIS |
1:37 |
: He’s spending dollars on five bounce back veterans while the rest of the league is spending five dollars on prospects, I’m guessing.
|
1:38 |
12 team roto dynasty standard 5×5. Would you want more than one from each group of Castro, Russell, and Bogaerts and Latos/Wacha for Shields and Holliday? Can you rank the combo in order you would prefer? |
1:38 |
: I would absolutely trade Shields and Holliday right now, and yeah I would want more than just Bogaerts and Wacha. I’d take Russell too.
|
1:39 |
Dropping Verlander for the stretch run? |
1:39 |
: Oh man, I’m in an h2h 15-teamer where he’s now like my fourth-best guy. I think I will, but I’m waiting for that friday/saturday spot start where I absolutely need another roster spot.
|
1:39 |
Guys like Teheran and Gray have been a bit on the crappy side recently. Is this mostly a function of a lot of innings on young guys or are they not as good as they seemed in the first half? |
1:40 |
: They probably weren’t 2.5 ERA guys, true talent. Gray’s change isn’t great and Teheran doesn’t throw his a ton. There are flaws. They’re really good, but there are flaws.
|
1:40 |
With two straight starts (and 4Ks), what do you think the playing time for Pederson looks like? Since he is not on the playoff roster, don’t they have to resemble what they are going to do in the postseason towards the last week or two?? |
1:40 |
: I’ll believe Mattingly going in: pinch hit, pinch run, pinch play.
|
1:41 |
What do you think Altuve’s true talent slash level is? |
1:41 |
: Zips .307 .345 .411, I’ll take a bit of an under on the slugging.
|
1:42 |
What’s the deal with Harrison this year? is he worth hanging on to in extremely deep leagues for next year? |
1:43 |
: Right-hander’s first good year against right-handed pitching. it comes with a .343 BABIP vs RHP. He’s done enough to be the starting 3B next year, though. I’d hang on to him.
|
1:43 |
Can keep 3 (no restrictions), who do I choose: puig, Soler, Kemp, Dickerson, Kinsler, Frazier, melky, lester? |
1:44 |
: Puig. Dickerson. Last one gets harder. Two OFs already. Frazier? I’m not keeping an SP in a keep three and Kinsler is old.
|
1:44 |
why did sean doolittle change to a pitcher? his hitting stats seem fine.. |
1:44 |
: Dunno actually. There was a health problem for him as a hitter, just kept getting hurt. A’s made the suggestion. He was an okay first baseman but might have been a platoon Freiman type if he’d kept at it.
|
1:45 |
Who is your NL MVP? |
1:45 |
: Lucroy or Kershaw.
|
1:45 |
This chat is still a thing? Good gravy, Eno! |
1:45 |
: Actually… I gotta go.
|
1:45 |
Cespedes full season with Red Sox: monster year? |
1:45 |
: Yes, for fantasy. OBP might not be great still.
|
1:45 |
: Okay later people!
|
1:46 |
bye thanks eno |
1:46 |
thanks! saison on! |
