Eno Sarris Chat — 7/11/13

8:49
Eno Sarris: Be here at the top of the hour!

9:00
Eno Sarris: Lyrics of the day are easy, but I’m headed to Pitchfork Fest to see these guys next week (come to the meetup, Chicago, July 18 at Fizz) and they like baseball, so there you go.

The catcher hits for .318 and catches every day
The pitcher puts religion first and rests on holidays
He goes into cathedrals and lies prostrate on the floor
He knows the drink affects his speed he’s praying for
a doorway
Back into the life he wants and the confession of the bench
Life outside the diamond is a wrench

Comment From LarryA
If I recall correctly, during the offseason there were tons of questions about Erasmos ability to succeed, including from you. Now the FG community is falling over itself to pick him up

9:02
Eno Sarris: Well, a few things happened that are worth watching. He put on 4mph of gas, and who knows if that can continue. That has helped his K%, so his projections in that cat are low. Also, I saw AN Erasmo Ramirez pitch in winter ball, and he wasn’t good, and I’m STILL not sure which Erasmo that was. And it might have been one game is all. I wrote about him, and there are some issues (curve sucks, slider is only average), but I like what he’s got going and he was 92-94 in rehab.

9:02
Comment From Benny
Cards just called up Martinez. Is he going to start ROS? Do I drop Kluber, Cingrani,or Nolasco for him?

9:03
Eno Sarris: Well this is interesting! I thought they were protecting Wacha’s innings for this role, but if they called up C-Mart now, must mean that Wacha is next in line. I’d drop Nolasco for him actually. More upside. I don’t hate Nolasco, but I just see downside there, especially away from home.

9:03
Comment From Sam
Average of Zips and steamer ROS for Verlander says 7.5 wins 3.34 ERA, 96 k’s and 1.16 whip. If you disagree with any of these numbers what would you project?

9:03
Eno Sarris: Seems fine to me.

9:03
Comment From Steal this Handle
Delabar or Tazawa for speculative saves? I don’t trust Janssen’s shoulder/age/history of missing time. Delabar or Tazawa just for ratios/K’s/win vulturing?

9:04
Eno Sarris: Janssen has been overperforming his stuff too. I’d speculate with Delabar.

9:04

What’s for breakfast you peasant?

9:05
Eno Sarris: I have a one-year old, so just whatever he doesn’t finish. Today it was blueberries, cinnamon bread and cottage cheese.

9:05
Comment From Steal this Handle
Have you had Black Racer 5? Thoughts?

9:06
Eno Sarris: Yes. I love. Don’t love ALL their beers, but the flagships, especially if you can get Racer 5 on cask, are really good.

9:06
Comment From Paul B.
Joyce or Reddick ROS

9:06
Eno Sarris: Joyce, actually. Even with the lefty problem.

9:06
Comment From Trabaj
Heyward or Jennings ROS?

9:07
Eno Sarris: Jennings making it closer every day with his power surge. Still Heyward by a nose.

9:07
Comment From JEB
Will you be attending any White Sox games while in Chicago next week?

9:07
Eno Sarris: The Monday after the break, yes.

9:07
Comment From JEB
I see the Chicago meetup article was just posted on beergraphs and you put 8pm+ down, that’s cool. I’ll be rolling into town around 10pm so how about you just send me your cell number and I’ll text you to see if you’re still there…

9:07
Eno Sarris: Actually by then I’ll probably be at the pitchfork preparty picking up my tickets. Also, lol.

9:07
Comment From Steal this Handle
Wei Yin Chen or Jose Quintana for 5×5?

9:07
Eno Sarris: I don’t love Chen’s stuff. Quintana.

9:08
Comment From Trabaj
Wieters or Ramos ROS? Is Wieters just a victim of low BABIP, or is doing anything different this year? Peripherals don’t look that different.

9:08
Eno Sarris: I think we know what he is. I’d say his floor is higher than Ramos’. Ramos could be a powerless .265 hitter. But Ramos’ ceiling is higher, since he’s shown better BAs. Talking fantasy, not real. Wieters overall is a great real-life catcher imo.

9:09
Comment From bdhudson
I’m flying to North Carolina at the end of August to go to a Hickory game and a Myrtle Beach game. I’ll be spending about a grand to see two A-ball games. Tell me why that’s not insane, please

9:09
Eno Sarris: Depends on who you’ll see.

9:09
Comment From Steal this Handle
Yu concerned about Yu’s trapezius? Do we believe the Rangers that it’s just 1 start and probably just a way to give him an extended rest around the break to keep him fresh for the playoff push?

9:09
Eno Sarris: I hurt that muscle, got a cortisone shot, and was good in about a week actually. They called it a pitchers’ injury, but for me it was from typing/carpal tunnel issues.

9:09
Comment From Brad
What sample size do you like to look at to make start/sit decisions? The last couple of weeks? A month?

9:10
Eno Sarris: More than a month. Mostly I try to use career splits, mostly platoon splits.

9:10
Comment From JEB
Have you ever tried Moose Drool Brown Ale? I’ve heard good things and am excited I’ll be getting to try some in Chicago next week.

9:10
Eno Sarris: Big Sky! I like it. A really good brown ale.

9:10
Comment From Trabaj
Can Juan Francisco make enough contact to be a useful starter in 12 team leagues?

Comment From Big Dave
I’m east coast… Going to San Diego tomorrow. What beers MUST I try there? I’ll be near Petco… so walking distance would be good! LOL

9:12
Eno Sarris: There are a ton of great beer bars in the gaslamp, so you’ll be set. Try the Ballast Point, Green Flash, Societe, Alpine and Port Brewing beers. They don’t all have great distribution and are, for the most part, insanely good.

9:12
Comment From JEB
So I just traded Puig for Lee and Dickey, how’d I fair? (i am in the run for the playoffs and needed pitching help, and i have Trout and Harper in the OF)

9:12
Eno Sarris: Even in my sell high article I admitted that I would take a proven entity for Puig. I just didn’t want to take a buy-low veteran.

9:12
Comment From bdhudson
Matt Cain is…..what?

9:13
Eno Sarris: Slightly overworked by postseason innings, with some fatigue that is making him miss his mechanics a bit, causing him to lose a tiny bit of command that is turning pop outs into home runs. I wrote about it and stand by it. I think he’s not far from who he normally is. Look at his K and BB numbers.

9:13
Comment From Tom
What do we make of Ivan Nova now?

9:13
Eno Sarris: There’s something interesting going on there. I need to look closer. I thought he was useless, no longer think that.

9:14
Comment From ar
who stands to benefit the most from the trading deadline? utley seems like the big one to me.. are there others you like?

9:15
Eno Sarris: Normally it’s the guys behind the guys that will get traded that benefit the most. Like Antonio Bastardo. Or Edgin in New York. I wish there were better young pitchers in Milwaukee.. maybe Thornburg, but only in deep leagues. Who else is selling? Fewer sellers these days.

9:15
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
I know you don’t like h2h leagues but would you consider it better to have 2-week long playoff mathcups even if it meant the “playoffs” start in August vs. 1-week long playoff matchups in Sept. when all sorts of nuttiness happens w/ rosters and lineups?

9:15
Eno Sarris: Bigger samples better, yes I like that.

9:15
Comment From JBizzy
Eno!! $300 Keeper salary cap league. My $3 Marte & $6 McCann for his $40 Braun. Guys are complaining. Justified trade no?

9:15
Eno Sarris: Hey man. You’re taking on risk and reward, and he gets a decent keeper and a veteran that could even be a keeper at his price.

9:16
Comment From Bruce
Please rank:

9:16
Eno Sarris: Done.

9:16
Comment From Jordan
I’ve chosen to completely ignore this Biogenesis thing…but I can’t escape it. How worried should I be about my Nelson Cruz or should I just continue to ignore the whole thing and act accordingly if Cruz suddenly is not playing in any games?

9:17
Eno Sarris: Well, there are 20 names on the list. If they are announcing this before appeals, one appeal can take a month. I’m not saying this will take 20 months — they could combine cases, and read Wendy’s article today about the nuclear option — but I’m inclined to believe this will take a while and the MLBPA will fight tooth and nail. There’s too much He-Said-He-Said in this.

Catcher is my weakest position I have jpa and m montero should I stash gattis?

9:17
Eno Sarris: Not unless keeper league.

9:17
Comment From Ted
Good time to buy low on The Shark?

9:18
Eno Sarris: I don’t see nothing wrong with a little split and dive.

9:18
Comment From Riflemen
Are you being proactive or reactive with this Biogenisis mess?

9:18
Eno Sarris: Reactive. Good way of putting it.

9:18
Comment From Guest
I have Martin Perez. Would you trade him for Marcell Ozuna? Keeper league, both have same price.

9:19
Eno Sarris: yes. I know Ozuna has K issues, but the power and speed are more interesting to me than Perez, who might be okay in real life, but pitches in the AL in Texas and hasn’t had a great run in MiLB yet.

9:19
Comment From bdhudson
How many picture of Kluber does Carson have on his walls?

9:19
Eno Sarris: He has one with Kluber looking at a pinup of Kluber looking at a pinup of Kluber looking at … so, infinity.

9:19
Comment From Razor
Trade of Rizzo/Iwakuma for Greinke/Andrus. Who wins in a keeper league?

9:20
Eno Sarris: I want Rizzo side. power and good K%.

9:20
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
Between the knee injury and BioGenesis is Grandal not keeper-worthy in a 20-team mixed points league at $2? ($260 budget, keep 12 and go into acution w/ $260-the salaries of the 12 you keep)

9:20
Eno Sarris: I think he’s still a keeper. Look at Santana’s recovery. Not like they are the same bat or anything, but Grandal is young.

9:20
Comment From sea salt
next week I’m benching gardner, harper and bautista and starting rajai, soriano, ibanez. ballsy or sensible?

9:20
Eno Sarris: irrational!

9:21
Comment From Gary
have you ever seen an emptier .300 batting average than Ben Revere so far this year?

9:21
Eno Sarris: Has Brantley hit .300 before?

9:21
Comment From Piazza, NY Catcher
Just saw Belle and Sebastian last night. Put on a great show. Enjoy ’em, Eno.

9:21
Eno Sarris: Yesssssssss

9:21
Comment From Barry
I’m starting to think Cashner belongs in the bullpen…he seriously just gives up screamers all over the place, all the time it seems. K’s & velocity are obviously down. Thoughts?

9:22
Eno Sarris: Well Ks and velo were going to go down with move to rotation. Still like his stuff. Worried that he put away the curve and hard slider to keep his arm alive, but like his changeup too. I’m not giving up on that experiment just yet, and I’m holding in leagues.

9:22
Comment From Fish
Question about the BeerGraphs leaderboards. How often does the data get updated, and could we see the number of check-ins for each beer?

9:23
Eno Sarris: We’re updating once a month, about, but we’ll add search to the leaderboards very soon. As for checkin numbers, I don’t think it works with our agreement with data providers. But you can sort by wOBAR if you don’t want to have the most popular beers at the top.

9:23
Comment From Razor
When the Brewers come to SF, can you ask Segura about his recent habit of showing bunt? Seems like he does it for the 1st strike a lot lately… odd given his HRs and batting so far this year.

9:23
Eno Sarris: Yes. That would be a good question, and might let us get into the power question.

9:23
Comment From Gareth
I finally made it to one of your chats!

9:24
Eno Sarris: Yes.

9:24
Comment From Tacoby Bellsbury
Kensuke Tanaka – super-sneaky super-deep league steals sources, or just a made-up name suitable for an interlude?

9:24
Eno Sarris: Deep league worthy. Hank Schulman tells me he’s the left fielder for the forseeable future! He’s got no power, but some OBP.

9:24
Comment From Marlon the Byrdman
Am I freal? 5th OF in 10-team worthy?

9:24
Eno Sarris: No

“If you drink anything other than macros, this is what happens” -Mitch Williams on exploding homebrew bottles

9:25
Eno Sarris: Dude, my wife was unsettled. I picked up glass on a three-foot high shelf ten feet from where the bottle exploded on the floor.

9:25
Comment From Dan
I have rendon at 2b. He’s pretty much the weak link in my lineup. Should I drop him for franklin, Doser or Rutlidge? SB is what I need the most in my 12 team roto 5×5 and im covered in all my other catagories.

9:26
Eno Sarris: No no no. He’s decent, might even have trade value. I do like Franklin though, and he will steal. Can you drop a bench guy so that you can move Rendon to the bench? Then you start Franklin at the beginning of weeks, and move Rendon in if you need power at the end of hte week.

9:26
Comment From Rob
I have a chance to win in a 19 team keeper league. This opportunity comes along rarely. I need help in Ks and WHIP. I need to pick one up, who do I grab and why?: Carlos Villanueva, Aaron Harang, Roberto Hernandez, and Dan Haren

9:27
Eno Sarris: Wow. Villanueva is really the best pickup if wins don’t matter at all. I think he can strike more out, and is in the NL, and isn’t 80.

9:27
Comment From Stillwater Cellar Door Saison
Was maybe best Saison I’ve ever had. You?

9:28
Eno Sarris: Yes, that one is a beast. I really really like the Derpe-Mere from Belgium, but easier to find greats are the dry-hopped Saison Dupont, the Saison Rue from The Bruery, and the Saison Bretta from Boulevard (also Logsdon).

9:28
Comment From Maxamuz
I want to dispel the rumors from last weeks chat that I was absent from the A. I died, and B. Juan Pierres Mustache had something to do with it. I am in fact, A. Alive and Well, and B. This is not a war between me and JPM, its a dang blood feud now. What does that mean? No idea. #LucasDuda

9:28
Eno Sarris: We are all more confused now that you’ve cleared that up.

9:28
Comment From Kerry
Bud Norris staying put now? Or you thinking Pitt or Cleveland possibly?

9:29
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll go. If he goes to the NL, he’s more interesting.

9:29
Comment From dude
Do you consider yourself a beer snob? …do you avoid certain beers simply because they are too ”in” or ”name brand”?

9:29
Eno Sarris: If it’s free, or at your house, you won’t hear a peep from me. If I’m buying for myself, yes, I won’t buy the big beers, but mostly because I know little beers I like better. And I love trying new beers.

9:30
Comment From The other Kyle
If Miggy finished at .350/45/150 but loses out on the Triple Crown because of Davis, will you be more impressed with his 2013 or his Triple Crown?

9:30
Eno Sarris: Those numbers are more impressive to me.

Comment From The other Kyle
Dismiss the myth, that evil is not black
But opposite spectrum, this done by red man
With horns on his head, laid down the I’ll plan
Got all his helpers, said, “Make it snappy!
Tell all the people that their hair can’t be nappy!”
Blonde and blue-eyed, or dark-skinned half a G
A disease, created by leprosy
Don’t speak of bleach, bend them to right
Say, “It was night WAY before the light”

9:31
Eno Sarris: Huh.

9:31
Comment From LarryA
No chance Santos comes back and usurps Delabar and Janssen?

9:31
Eno Sarris: Definitely a chance. He has more control than Delabar, more gas than Janssen. I’ve got him stashed in multiple deep leagues.

9:32
Comment From Gareth
You think the Indians are just posturing by saying we “will only trade for a Co- Top of the rotation starter to pair with Masterson (Gallardo / Garza) and are not looking to trade for a 4th / 5th starter type (Norris) as we have them already?”

9:32
Eno Sarris: I don’t believe much of what team say right now.

9:32
Comment From Piazza, NY Catcher
I could use another arm and I think I can flip Austin Jackson for MadBum. I’d be left with the following OF: Bruce, Dom Brown, Joey Bats, Alan Craig and Alfonso Soriano.

9:32
Eno Sarris: Yes I’d do that.

9:32
Comment From bdhudson
How long does Wieters need to be meh before we admit that Wieters is meh

9:32
Eno Sarris: In fantasy, he’s meh. Still top twelve though.

9:32
Comment From Hank
Rutledge a “Quad -A” player?

9:33
Eno Sarris: I do think if he was given longer, he’d hit a BABIP tear that would bring up to .260+, with 20/15 type numbers. Of course, the real life problems (defense, patience) sink a lot of that value, making his team less likely to play him. Which might mean a lot of time up and down.

9:33
Comment From RK
O. Taveras for the next 3 years or Kershaw for the rest of this year?

9:34
Eno Sarris: I think Taveras will play 1.5 equivalent seasons at best. The Cards take forever with their guys. If you in the hunt, it’s worth the price to get the ace.

9:34
Comment From Gareth
Jason Heyward has looked awful all year. Any hope of a second half turnaround?

My wife is expecting our first child any day now, and I have a westvleteran in the fridge waiting to celebrate. Which one should I be more excited for?

9:35

Trade Sale for Garza/Eaton a fair trade?

9:35
Eno Sarris: Sale’s still the best in that deal. I say no. There’s some risk with Eaton’s PT.

9:35
Eno Sarris: And Garza could still end up in the AL.

9:35
Comment From Jordan
Just dropped Pettitte for C-Mart because I couldn’t wait the 20 minutes it would take you to get through the queue and answer the question because the guys in my league are savages…acceptable transaction?

Desperate for pitching…Name a few guys to target (both via trades and likely FAs). Confluence Brewing samples…on the way.

9:40
Eno Sarris: I’d pick up Wandy, Beachy, Brett Anderson, even Cahill if you have an open slot on the DL. That allows you to go shopping for another pitcher. Erasmo, Quintana, interesting recent pickups. In trades, I’d still go after Cole. Verlander, Price, Cain, Shark, even DIckey for cheap.

9:40
Comment From Nick
Eno, are you of any relation to the Sarris family of Western Pennsylvania, the founders of Sarris Candies? Or is Sarris a relatively common Greek name?

Going to England tomorrow for a week. What should I expect from English beer?

9:41

How did you end up doing what you do?

Comment From Travis
Game seven of the world series. Bottom of the ninth inning, two outs. You’re up by four. Prime Barry Bonds is up with the bases loaded. Do you walk him?

9:43
Eno Sarris: The unintentional intentional. Try to hit the edges… at least if my pitcher is capable of that. If not… wow. Might depend on who’s after him.

Eno Sarris: I think that’s their summit hops beer?

9:43
Comment From James
Heyward only has 21 3-hit games in his career. He just rarely has that “big” game. Do you think that hurts his value, as he seemingly must be incredibly consistent to put up good numbers without the occasional big game to boost things? Or, just totally random fluctuation, and we should expect regression?

9:43
Eno Sarris: I think he has been fairly consistent. Also, is that number really that low for a guy with his PT?

9:44
Comment From Frank
Eno! David Price’s velo is down and his homerun rate is up … should I trade him before he falls apart??

9:44
Eno Sarris: His velo is down from above 94 to below, and that’s a dividing line actually. He could expect a few more homers. Still, his stuff is great. I think he’ll be great the rest of this season.

9:44
Comment From Matt Adams
No, seriously, when do I get some at bats?

9:44
Eno Sarris: Next year. To keep Oscar down.

9:45
Comment From Stole this Handle
How long do you have to wait to see the effects of a change by a pitcher or a batter?

9:45
Eno Sarris: The quickest any stats become stable is about 50 PA, and gb/fb stuff is 150 PA. So you want to wait a couple weeks if they are swinging less or more, at least a month if they putting the ball on the ground more.

9:46
Comment From Robert
Which side would you take in a Freeman/Romo for Chris Davis/Blake Parker trade? I need saves more than power, but could use both. And I’m pretty confident that Parker will be able to do the job for the Cubs when Gregg is traded.

9:46
Eno Sarris: Take the best player. Can always go hunting for saves. Especially around the trade deadline.

9:46
Comment From Jordan

Hey Eno. Can you back me starting Erasmo today or do I need to relax? Thanks as always.

9:47
Eno Sarris: He’s at home. Tough opponent. In H2H, I’ll start him, in deep leagues too. In shallow roto, especially if I’m protecting rates, no.

9:48
Comment From Mike
Straily going up and down, does he stick in rotation at some point? Saw Gray was called up as well, so uhh, yea, shrug

9:48
Eno Sarris: Maybe Straily is the starter and Gray is the long reliever? I still think Straily gets the next start between the two.

9:49
Eno Sarris: Ug.

9:49
Comment From Markus
Wade Davis has the highest single-season BABIP in ML history since 1900 (.381). Given his 30% LD rate and above-average D behind him, just how much of it is bad luck? What would you do with him if you were the Royals?

9:49
Eno Sarris: Put him back in the pen.

9:49

If one appeal takes a month, that doesn’t mean 20 appeals will take 20 months. An “appeal” is a not a full time job for four weeks…

What do you do if in desperate need of a C? I started with Montero and then was counting on Grandal. Now Grandal is done and I’m back to Montero. What typical shallow league waiver pickup would you rather have instead? Salty, Phegley, Martin, etc

9:52
Eno Sarris: There’s a scrum there from about 8-20. I’d probably just stick with Montero, but Martin is interesting.

how do we check in at beergraphs? or is it just a select set of checker-inners? How does one become on if that is so?

9:54
Eno Sarris: Oh we use data from Untappd, a social app for rating beers where you ‘check in.’

9:54
Comment From Job
How is the statistic “RBI” meaningless?

9:55
Eno Sarris: Define it and it becomes absurd. “An RBI is when a batter makes contact in the field of play (unless you’re talking a foul out), and makes less than two outs and a runner on base scores. Add in extra rules about whether or not the fielder tried to throw to the right base in the case of fielder’s choices.” Basically, what are you measuring? You’re measuring how much contact a player makes and how good his teammates are. There are better measures even for those skills.

9:56
Comment From Gareth
Hey don’t knock Brantley. Solid Major Leaguer. The more I see him, the more I realize how sneaky good he is. Dudes always improving some aspect of his game.

9:57
Eno Sarris: Was a fantasy thing, and I agree. One of my better guys in AL-LABR, and I love him in deep leagues since he goes out and gets you R/RBI, some SB, some HR. But true talent he’s like a .280/15/20 guy with platoon splits, and that might be generous.

which young 3b figures it out … Middlebrooks or Moustakis?

9:57
Eno Sarris: With Moustakas’ FB rates, I think he’s doomed to bad batting averages even with a good K%. If we’re talking this year, I’ll take him, but long-term, MB has more upside even with the bad K%.

For hitters what are the best advanced metrics to use, for pitchers what are the best advanced metrics to use?

9:59
Eno Sarris: Hitters, I like to look at K% (relevant to batting average, stabilizes fairly quickly) and GB% (relevant to power and batting average, stabilizes fairly quickly). For pitchers, swinging strike rate and BB% and GB%. Oh, also fastball velocity.

Hosmer has been reasonably good for month and a half now, with improving fly ball rate. What is your confidence level that he can be a productive 1b going forward?

10:02
Eno Sarris: I always had him down for .280/20/15. It might be more .280/15/18, but that’s a good player. More Util than 1B, but if you have a power guy at util, then he fits at 1B.

My 8-mo old baby girl hates sleeping. We have to trick her to sleep every time — feeding, car rides, pushing the stroller around the house. Rocking in your arms and the swing don’t even work anymore. And if she wakes up from the twilight and catches on to what you are trying to do, brace for another 2 hours of fussy baby. Any advice?

10:10
Eno Sarris: Start working on this now: putting her to bed on her belly while she’s tired and still awake. She needs to learn how to put herself to bed. How to soothe herself. It’ll be hard. You can try to pat her a little in the crib to help her get down, but eventually you’ll have to let her cry herself to sleep some. You can’t rock her forever.

10:20
Eno Sarris: Well done with the Bartleby/intro. I don’t think Ike’s fixed everything, and he’s always going to have a bad BA. Swisher has the home park killing his power, so does LoMo. I’d want two of these, especially since Ike isn’t starting against lefties. My two: LoMo and Swish.

Eno – if dancing is your “thing,” those Twee glaswegians invite folks on stage for their last song of the night. I didn’t dance. I regret it. But help me out here: I am punting on Saves and have been left holding the bag with Jansen. I love the ratios, but he’s not much of a fit. Trade targets? Pair him with Shelby Miller and try and land Marte?

10:39
Comment From Denard Span
I might have an emptier batting line than Ben Revere. And I’m older. And more expensive. Did the Nationals acquire the wrong MIN CF ?

10:39
Eno Sarris: Well done.

10:40
Comment From KillahYeast
Let’s talk Wilmer Flores. K/BB way heavy on K side recently. Could this be a mechanical fix or is he getting less patient.

10:41
Eno Sarris: From a stats standpoint, there’s no real standout feature with him. He doesn’t walk, and yeah, he makes good contact normally, but it looks like a 14% strikeout rate that could easily turn into a 18% in the majors. So, average-ish contact, below-average patience, and above-average but not elite power. I think he’ll be a major leaguer and be decent with the bat, but where?

Comment From dude
I want the Knicks to sign elton brand. I think chandler, bargs, melo, then a brand, amare, melo, and also a chandler, brand, melo lineup would all work well. Among other potential combos. Your first basketball comment of the day.

10:42
Eno Sarris: OLD

10:42
Comment From Weeeeee
Sonny Gray’s curveball. Yum.

10:42
Eno Sarris: Danny Salazar’s changeup?

10:42
Comment From Danny Salazar
I’m dealing. How deep of a league should I be grabbed up in?

10:43
Eno Sarris: I’d drop anything worse than Kluber for him.

10:43
Comment From bo hart
a guy in my dynasty league loves machado. He keeps sending me trade proposals for my choice of giancarlo or kershaw. My OF and SP are already good but i should i pull the trigger on a deal?

10:44
Eno Sarris: I think Machado is a true talent .275/20/15 kind of guy… which is what I was hoping for from Lawrie. That’s a top-half 3B, but 3Bs are easier to find these days. Really depends on who you’d be pushing out of your OF and who you might find to play 3B.

10:45
Comment From Mark
The black skin clear fur one is definitely true 10 feet is a bit tall for a polar bear

10:45
Eno Sarris: Glad we’re clearing this all up.

I’m thinking about offering any 2 of Lackey, Garza, Cain, Beachy, Nolasco or Kluber for Velander. Do you think this is a good idea or do I end up losing on the deal if he picks X and X.

10:46
Eno Sarris: I like any combo. I guess Cain and Garza might hurt the most, but only if Garza stays in the NL.

10:46
Comment From JT
I *like* Corona and A Marca Bavaria. Light beers in the summer sun.

10:46
Eno Sarris: Sure, I get the impetus. I just go Saison or Pils in the summer.

10:46
Comment From Nautius Maximus
Is Hamels still a great 2nd half rebound candidate?

10:47
Eno Sarris: yes

10:47
Comment From Bird Man
would you be open to working for a baseball franchise?

10:47
Eno Sarris: not really. As you might be able to tell, I’m a little to into a lot of different things, and writing is the best way to indulge in that. Also, teams pay horribly and ask you to move to their cities. I like California.

10:48
Comment From dude
Prince Fielder is a nice/fair get for Miller, Eno. I assume that is the question you were asking a month or so ago about trading one of your pitchers for a bat?

10:48
Eno Sarris: Oh yeah, you guys helped me on that one! I also traded Fernandez and Wilhelmsen for Hart and Parnell, and then Hart for Grandal, so that part sort of fell apart on me.

10:48
Eno Sarris: Still in first though.

10:49
Comment From ar
why is yahoo better than espn? we only use espn.

10:49
Eno Sarris: I’ll have to look harder to put it into words, but there’s something about the user interface I don’t love… maybe the league page.

10:49
Comment From Run Batted Ins
I AM NOT A JOKE!

10:49
Eno Sarris: I’d take you more seriously if you put the ‘s’ in the right place.

10:50
Comment From Mark
Is there any chance of Hunter Pence going to the Pirates?

10:50
Eno Sarris: I doubt it. Seems like signing him for too much money is more likely.

10:50
Comment From Steve
I commiserated with you on Twitter about this, but a week later, WHAT BOX SCORES SHOULD I USE NOW!?!? Damn Yahoo, Tumblrfying everything

10:50
Eno Sarris: Well, Yahoo is testing those. So tell them what you think. Hopefully they don’t stick. I removed my cookies and am peacefully using old Yahoo box scores now.

10:50
Comment From Raymond
Have you heard anything about Lawrie moving over to 2B?

10:50
Eno Sarris: Just that they’re thinking about it.

10:50
Comment From Bruce
Serious Question: Dont you get burnt out on fantasy baseball from time to time?

10:51
Eno Sarris: Just about the time the season is over. I take a little break, and then get back to my dynasty teams a bit, another break over Christmas, and then it’s time to rank again.

10:51
Eno Sarris: Ok, that takes the wind out of those sails.

10:51
Comment From Danny Salazar
Thole!!#$!@#@$@!

10:51
Eno Sarris: Holy Thole.

Very close: Einiosaurus is a medium-sized herbivorous centrosaurine ceratopsian dinosaur from the Upper Cretaceous of northwestern Montana

10:52
Eno Sarris: Mind blown.

10:52

What do you think the Cardinals will do and should do about SS this season?

10:52
Eno Sarris: Eh, they’ll just patch it like they always do. If you have one glove-only spot on the diamond, that’s the one.

10:52
Comment From hooha
There never seems to be ENOugh of you to go around..

10:52
Eno Sarris: hoo HA

10:53
Comment From Karl Cheese
Eno, Karl Cheese needs his question answered. Would you trade Cano for Longoria if you had Kipnis on the bench? 3b options are DIM.

10:53
Eno Sarris: Sure. Kipnis is like 1A to Cano’s 1.

10:53
Comment From Chris
Does anyone from FG get a HOF vote?

10:53
Eno Sarris: Nine years out for me and Carson.

10:53
Comment From Bruce
Any micro options at Citi?

10:54
Eno Sarris: Actually there are a couple but I forget em. There’s a beers of the world hut by Shake Shack. It’s not great, but there are a few local. I think there’s some Brooklyn Brewery stuff around the park.

10:54
Comment From Karl Cheese
Erasmo or Cashner?

10:55
Eno Sarris: This is the line. The Erasmo line. It’s a pick’em, sorry. I’d probably hold the NL guy who used to K everyone.

10:55
Comment From hooha
Do you drink scotch, or just stick to beer? I love craft beer but lately have been enjoying a good single malt. Am I a cheater?

10:55
Eno Sarris: Variety is the spice of life. My brother in law lets me have some of his Lagavulin and Laphroig from time to time.

10:55
Comment From Dayn Perry
Take that back about CBS! CBS Eye On Baseball is the home for all baseball fans.

10:55
Eno Sarris: No no, writing is fine. The fantasy game is atrocious.

10:56
Comment From Tom
You need more people from St. Louis clocking in on beergraphs. The beers here are way better than your ratings show (may be the whole on draft vs. bottle thing).

10:56
Eno Sarris: I wish we had method of delivery in there.

10:56
Comment From hogwagon
Revolution is the best beer pub/brewery in the city to visit, but if you’re here you should make the pilgrimage down to 3 Floyd’s in munster, it’s a short drive and capital-A awesome

10:56
Eno Sarris: probably won’t have time this time, but yeah love them. The meetup was thinking about Revolution, but we’re going to be at Fizz (July 18) so that you can have different kinds of beers.

10:56
Comment From Harjit
Eno, what shall be done about managers who abandon their team mid-season? Those who do not set their lineups? These heathen?

10:57
Eno Sarris: It’s hard. Podhorzer likes the idea of a minimum amount of work setting that person’s lineup and dropping hurt players and moving healthy ones in. But that’s a lot of work for most commishes. I think you ignore them and don’t invite them back.

10:57
Comment From Guest
Jhonny Peralta seems to be getting worse with each passing day. Grab Alcides Escobar while he’s still on the wire?

10:57
Eno Sarris: I’d rather have Alcides.

10:58
Comment From Maxamuz
woah woah woah Nautius Maximus…you got to go.

10:58
Eno Sarris: NEW FEUD

10:58
Comment From dude
Might have gotten a bit over-zealous there on that second trade, Eno.

10:59
Eno Sarris: Two-catcher league, and not like Hart ended up hurting me. Fernandez has little trade value since his IP limit is so openly discussed. But yeah, didn’t really work out. At least I have Parnell? For a little while longer?

10:59
Comment From Maxamuz

Why does no one have any love for Ervin Santana?

10:59
Eno Sarris: He only has a fastball and a slider and iffy control. Platoon splits should come back to bite him soon.

10:59
Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
ESPN really stepped it up on their player pool last year. THey are now quite nice for dynasty and other custom setups

10:59
Eno Sarris: Deepest player pool… well CBS goes pretty deep too.

10:59
Comment From Jordan
Hunter Pence scares me. I won’t subject you all to a picture. The faint of heart definitely should not do a google image search or click this link… http://t.qkme.me/3rj9rs.jpg

11:00
Eno Sarris: he is a very scary human being, even in person.

11:00
Comment From dude
Have you officially made a living as a fantasy baseball writer? Do you go into other sports at all? Or do other work?

11:00
Eno Sarris: I started a beer website, maybe you heard. But I’m full time at FanGraphs.

Which side of the trade do you prefer? Freeman, Kendrick and A-Jax for Crawford, Allen Craig, and Machado?
