Fan Projection Targets – 12/14/09

Today, we look at some young pitchers who made highly anticipated debuts last season but have as yet to eclipse the 30 ballot threshold in our Fan Projections: Neftali Feliz, Rick Porcello, and Chris Tillman.

Feliz pitched exclusively in relief for Texas after an early-August promotion, blowing away hitters with a 95.8 mph fastball.

Porcello is a ground-ball monster who’ll reach drinking age just in time for New Year’s.

Tillman came to Baltimore as part of the Bedard trade. He breezed through the minors but had a little bit more trouble in his major league debut.

Click the link above that says “Neftali Feliz, Rick Porcello, and Chris Tillman”. The rest should be self-explanatory.

Perhaps this would be best placed in one of the intro posts:

After perusing the outcomes of my projections I have noticed that some lines came with outcomes I would not have predicted. Corey Hart ended up with a .324 OBP which I would have projected at .295ish. Rick Porcello and Scott Feldman have identical projected lines despite me projecting them to be fairly different. What I’m wondering is if the projection system breaks down if we type in a value for each tab. This could be a way of making the system marginally better in the future.

If it’s not clear, I’m targeting Hart to collapse. 🙂

Well, with Rick Porcello and Scott Feldman, I’m actually showing that you’ve entered the exact same projections for both of them. It’s possible you stumbled upon some weird bug, but I’m not really sure since you entered both these players like 10 days apart. In any case, I’d take another look at both these players.

There’s still some tweaking that needs to be done on the back end, but in general the system isn’t really set up to do personal projections and it’s more interested in the aggregates.

This is the worst piece of “requesting fan projections” I have ever read. Cistulli, this request is far too short and you lost me after the first syllable you typed. Argh, when will fangraphs put us out of our misery?
