7:51 |
: Hi everybody!
7:51 |
: Ronald Acuna worth keeping over Ray at same price ($1)
7:52 |
7:52 |
: If you mean Robbie Ray, then no, I’d keep Robbie Ray.
7:53 |
: Any reason why the AL outfield composition is Springer LF, Betts CF and Judge RF. I suppose there is a problem with having 3 RFs in the outfield. I remember faintly that John Farrell really doesn’t like using Betts at CF (instead using Beni when Bradley gets a day off). Springer is also a CFer at times. Why isn’t it Judge LF, Springer CF, Betts RF. I just suppose it’s weird that Mills is playing the MLB leader in DRS out of position. Also, who do you think will close the game if the AL/NL had the lead?
7:54 |
: Farrell’s position is understandable, he doesn’t want to jerk around his best player, and he can do that because he has 4 center fielders on his roster in Benintendi, Betts, Bradley and Young.
7:54 |
: At the same time, Betts is easily the best center fielder among the three, even if Springer does sometimes play there.
7:54 |
7:55 |
: Jose Ramirez and Aaron Judge have been en fuego all season. It is early…but would you keep either in an OBP league over this year’s trio, Josh Donaldson, Freddie Freeman, or Corey Seager?
7:55 |
: I’d probably rank them as such. 1. Judge, 2. Seager, 3. Freeman, 4. Ramirez, 5. Donaldson
7:55 |
: So, yes.
7:55 |
: Please name the best starting pitcher you would trade for Ryan Zimmerman 1-for-1.
7:56 |
: Jon Lester? It’d need to be someone like him – a star, but in his 30s and on his downside. Zimmerman’s Statcast magic might fade the second he doesn’t have Murphy in his ear.
7:56 |
7:56 |
: Looking this up.
7:57 |
: Here it is.
7:57 |
The Quick Opinion: Freeman is a decent value play, and he should get better as he matures, but his ceiling — which he may not reach in 2012 — is still likely to fall short of elite status for a first baseman. |
7:58 |
: I’ll stand by this – Don’t forget, expectations were SKY HIGH for Hosmer.
7:58 |
7:58 |
: I once wrote that Hunter Pence would absolutely lose in arbitration. He won five hours later.
7:58 |
: I once wrote that Daniel Bard would be “just fine” as a starting pitcher. He made like 2 more starts.
7:59 |
: So, yeah, not embarrassed by that Freeman profile.
8:00 |
: Good pull though!
8:00 |
: Sorry, someone was at the door.
8:00 |
8:00 |
: He might be, but he’s still a reliever on a team that didn’t merit two All-Stars, and Josh Harrison is having a pretty good season too.
8:00 |
: I miss real baseball.
8:01 |
: It’s weird, but it was nice to not have to set my lineup the last two days.
8:01 |
: Bringing my question back to the Game, you think Freeman should be in the game? I’m thrown back to 2012 Kemp when he had a scorching April but idk if he got in the game
8:01 |
: As I wrote in my All-Stars post, I’m fine with it. He missed a good chunk of the first half, and the NL has no shortage of good 1Bs.
8:02 |
8:03 |
: Well, good choice on the relevancy front. Not so much on the “from Miami” front. 1 out of 2 ain’t bad. Good anthem too.
8:03 |
: I came here to make a joking comment on a blog post about why wasn’t there an ASG live blog. But. Um. Ok.
8:04 |
: Ya buddy!
8:04 |
: Settle in. I’ve got a Jack’s Abby tall boy, and I’m ready to roll.
8:04 |
: Was Jon Jay’s 46.5-mph curveball the slowest recorded pitch in MLB history?
8:05 |
8:06 | : That reminds me to pimp one of the articles Jake Mintz of Cespedes BBQ wrote for us at THT on the Eephus pitch! |
8:06 |
: Pitbull for anthem: good idea or amazing idea?
8:06 |
: Would have been magnificent.
8:07 |
: How much do you think team PR people work with players going onto the national stage for the first time?
8:07 |
: Well, I know the teams usually send at least one PR person. How much hand holding they do probably depends on the player in question.
8:09 |
8:09 |
: So, are they just gonna play this montage of Latin American players the whole time?
8:09 |
: I won’t complain. This is great.
8:11 |
: I could watch hours on hours of Latin baseball history
8:11 |
: Leaving Yadi off that current player montage !!
8:11 |
: Are you sure? I thought I saw him on it. Maybe it was a live shot…
8:12 |
8:12 |
: Ooh can we have Pedro throw out the first pitch to Pudge Rodriguez??
8:13 |
: That’d be awesome.
8:13 |
: I miss Mariano.
8:13 |
: Me too.
8:13 |
: Luis Tiant not here despite being (one of) the best Cuban player ever? Okay MLB
8:14 |
: It seems as though they kept it to Hall of Famers. Blame the idiot Veterans Committee voters.
8:14 |
: Rodriguez *does* have the ball in his hand…
8:14 |
: Oh, they all have balls.
8:15 |
: OMG Alomar threw the ball to Lindor. My beating heart!
8:16 |
: Mariano is basically already a HOFer, wish they could’ve brought him down too.
8:16 |
: It would have been great to see Rivera and Tiant, but I understand the decision to limit it to Hall of Famers. It looked crowded as is for that first pitch.
8:17 |
: Who will have the last laugh, the Scooter Bennett skeptics who scoff at his 4 hr outburst or the people who buy in because he’s now up to 15?
8:17 |
: Neither – they’re both wrong.
8:17 |
: So is the home run derby ‘back’ with the new format? Does the actual game need something different to make it more interesting, now that it doesn’t impact home field
8:18 |
: It was much more entertaining last night, but that had to do with the participants as much as the format.
8:18 |
: But it was certainly easier to follow if you were only half paying attention, and that was good and fun.
8:18 |
: I would renew my calls for more skills events, but it’ll never happen.
8:19 |
: Was Jude sometimes going oppo in the hr derby just to show off or was he pretending it was BP?
8:19 |
: If I had to guess, I’d say that those were mistakes that he is just strong enough to get out of the ballpark.
8:20 |
: It’s up to the players to make it fun. John Kruk/Randy Johnson anyone?
8:20 |
: Agree. Kruk/Randy, Bonds/Hunter, A-Rod/Ripken. BO. These are the things people remember. It’s what I remember, anyway.
8:20 |
: Quick thoughts on Danny Salazar ROS. Even off his game his K% was very inticing….Should I hold in 12 team mixed?
8:21 |
: If you’re in on Salazar for this long, then yes, you have to hold.
8:21 |
: Bryce Harper with the buttons undone. Rowrrr.
8:22 |
: Crazy to think that this is all the living latin-born HOFers. In 20 years, it’ll be like 4 times this many, easily. Rivera, Ortiz, Pujos, Cano, Miggy, A-rod (tbd), Vlad, and Manny (tbd) are all players who should more than double the total within the next 5-10 years.
8:22 |
: Yup, it just doesn’t seem right. Soon, we won’t have to think about it. Don’t forget about Beltre and Beltran (tbd).
8:22 |
: John smoltz doesn’t know Cody Bellinger is left handed.
8:22 |
: Did John Smoltz just say Bellinger is right handed?
8:22 |
: Off to a great start!
8:22 |
: That speed Atuve interview was top tier content
8:23 |
: The natural inclination is to criticize FOX for doing stupid things. But they are *trying* things, so let’s celebrate that. If some of them don’t work, that’s fine. They did eventually retire Scooter the Baseball, after all.
8:25 | : Reminder that there are custom ASG leaderboards at the bottom of this post. |
8:25 |
: Skills idea: outfielders throw at targets at 2nd 3rd and home, scored on accuracy with ties broken by speed on throws that hit the target
8:26 |
: Yup, that was one of the ideas I had proposed in the past. Specifically just center field to home plate (to keep it simple) but yes, this would be awesome.
8:26 |
: Let us take a moment to appreciate the almost perfectly straight camera angle to appreciate Scherzer and Sale.
8:26 |
: Indeed.
8:26 |
: That Scherzer pitch moved so much.
8:26 |
: Damn I forgot you live blog this. I should leave work
8:27 |
: Yeah you should!
8:27 |
: Just kidding, don’t get fired for me.
8:27 |
: I know average isn’t the most important stat, but kinda cool to see the top 3 for BA be the top 3 in the lineup, in order.
8:27 |
: I hadn’t noticed that. That is kinda cool.
8:27 |
: And appreciate max grunting
8:28 |
: You can appreciate it until Joe Buck makes a dumb joke about it.
8:28 |
: Has Freeman moved above Goldy on the “most underrated” list? I feel like Goldy is on top of so many “most underrated” lists that he’s no longer underrated. And who would you rather have for the next five years?
8:28 |
: No Goldy is still at the top of that list. It’s ridiculous how underrated he is.
8:29 |
: Tough with Freeman being 2 years younger, but I’ll take Goldy.
8:30 |
: Also, I hope Scherzer’s night isn’t over. Did they say up top Scherzer would only pitch 1 inning?
8:30 |
: He said 1 inning after the first out, sounds like it was preplannes.
8:30 |
: Planned
8:30 |
: Boo.
8:30 |
: You know who looks like Scherzer stuff wise? One Aaron Nola
8:31 |
: Bold take, Ryan. We’ll see. I do like Nola a lot.
8:32 |
: Feel like they should have let Ozuna hit third, just for the hometown fun. 🙂
8:33 |
: You remember that one all-star game where Jeter told Joe Buck to get lost? Good times
8:33 |
: NO! Clip? I’ll settle for a GIF.
8:33 |
: I wish Blackmon had been like “dude, he can hear me”
8:34 |
: Well, he did hit it.
8:34 |
: Joe Buck cited RBI, drink!
8:34 |
: Sale is not screwing around.
8:35 |
: Who edits Fangraphs articles? You mention Ozuna and it brought me back to Dave saying Ozuna had already matched his career war at the break when that was just blatantly false
8:35 |
: Which article was this?
8:35 |
: I always drink while listening to joe buck
8:35 |
: *Aaron Judge drops the ball on purpose to make Chris Sale throw more pitches*
8:36 |
: So is Stanton doomed to never be mentioned without a Judge comp again?
8:36 |
: Not by Joe Buck, anyway.
8:36 |
: This straight-on camera…can’t get enough. That Sale slider is obscene
8:36 |
: Did anyone see that photo of Bellinger talking to Stanton and Judge? He’s 6’4 and he looked like a 15 year old next to them.
8:36 |
: Well, he does sort of look like a 15-year-old in general.
8:36 |
: Wow, Harper.
8:38 |
:
8:38 |
: That’s fantastic.
8:38 |
: Sale triple digits alert
8:38 |
: So, uh, when are they gonna ban Sale’s slider for witchcraft?
8:38 |
: I hope not.
8:38 |
: Just an FYI, If fg were to hire an editor, I would apply and work by the article or hour
8:38 |
: We edit every article, but thank you.
8:39 |
: It’s not often that Dave makes a factual mistake like that. I think we can grant him a mulligan.
8:39 |
: Oh my, that slow mo bat shot of Harper.
8:39 |
: I apologize Paul I’m spreading disinformation. Dave said that Ozuna had matched his career high in war, not his career
8:39 |
: C’mon Matt, get it together!
8:40 |
: I ALREADY WANT TO SEE DUNKIRK I DON’T NEED TO SEE MORE FOOTAGE OF IT.
8:41 |
: Are the trainers voted on by the players too? That would be amazing to figure out who the best are and why
8:41 |
: I don’t think they’re voted on by the players, no.
8:42 |
: Arenado shouting out the side-arm throw. Classic.
8:43 |
: Speaking of Dunkirk, Chris Nolan has to be on my all-star team for film directors.
8:43 |
: Eh, maybe. How big is the roster?
8:44 |
: Did A Rod sound a little bitter about moving to 3rd for Jeter?
8:44 |
: That’s not how I heard it, no. It’s stupid how good A-Rod is at broadcasting after seeming so awkward his entire career.
8:44 |
: Wut. Why is AROD walking around interviewing players literally on the infield dirt before the inning?
8:45 |
: They’re trying stuff, Zane. It’s an exhibition game. I’m fine with it.
8:45 |
: Thanks to Joe Buck for telling us all that Tito is Francona’s nickname.
8:45 |
: Neshek! this is what the people at home want to see
8:45 |
: This is … interesting.
8:46 |
: If smoak becomes Joey Bats/ E5 2.0 does Cameron get I told you so rights against the entire Fangraphs staff?
8:46 |
: What? Dave has been telling us all that Smoak is the worst for like, ever.
8:47 |
: I get that Neshek has been good but I feel like the all-star game should be lined up with the best pitchers for at least the first few innings.
8:47 |
: Well, if it means that the best pitchers are pitching later, I’ll let it slide. If it means we’re in for 8 innings of the worst pitchers on the roster, then I’ll be upset.
8:47 |
: How much would ingratiating himself as a friendly and self-deprecating broadcaster over the next 5 years help A-Rod getting into the HOF?
8:47 |
: You’re joking, right?
8:47 |
: THE FLOW.
8:48 |
: THE SHOES.
8:48 |
: It’s all happening.
8:48 |
: God it was Sullivan who wrote that article wasn’t it
8:48 |
: what the heck is wrong with me
8:48 |
: Matt, sit down. Have a beer. Everyone has off-days.
8:48 |
: It’ll be OK.
8:49 |
: How do you go to commercial before a replay of the flip.
8:49 |
: Oh god, FOX does this all the time.
8:49 |
: At least they showed a replay of the play.
8:49 |
: They often go to break without showing any replay at all.
8:49 |
: Harper planking hair flip. 8/10 would steal yo girl
8:50 |
: Just 8/10 ? You’re a tough critic, Stove!
8:50 |
: Maddon is just letting pitchers play with their teammates. Scherzer and the inevitably traded Neshek with the Nats starters, then wood and Jensen when he puts all the dodgers in
8:50 |
: Good ole Joe Maddon, that’s why the players love him!
8:51 |
: Would have been great to see that hit.
8:51 |
: There we go.
8:51 |
: Can Harper be awarded the official title of “coolest player ever?” Or at least institute an annual “coolest player” award?
8:51 |
: Pretty sure that would be the Pedro Martinez Award.
8:52 |
: You think if Huston Street was an all star he’d refuse to come in the 2nd inning
8:52 |
: Probably. He’d want to close, haha.
8:53 |
: You know, I initially intended that as a joke, but now I think the Pedro Martinez Award would actually be good for baseball. People like watching flashy players, so introduce an award for flashy, cool players!
8:53 |
: I don’t disagree.
8:54 |
: Did correa miss the bag?
8:54 |
: Thought he had it.
8:54 |
: We need a baseball version of Silicon Valley, where Jeter’s other investors fall through and he is forced to partner with A-Rod to buy the Marlins, with the showing following them trying to co-run a baseball team.
8:55 |
: I like how Perez stared at the runner coming home before he fired to first.
8:57 |
: Any Yankee who wins proposed Pedro award is cut.
8:57 |
:
8:58 |
: Care to interrupt the live blogging to comment on the present ability and upside of Luis Castillo?
8:58 |
: No because we already had a Luis Castillo and this new Luis Castillo is confusing me!
8:59 |
: Kidding. He seems pretty good, but let’s talk when his HR/9 isn’t close to 2.
8:59 |
: OMG The Freeze is there!!! Check MLB’s twitter!!!
8:59 |
: APPARENTLY THE FREEZE IS COMING OUT
9:00 |
: (whispers) I think The Freeze is stupid.
9:00 |
: CMart triple digit alert
9:00 |
: 101 mph alert
9:00 |
: I loved the original Luis Castillo. I’ll watch the reboot for suresies
9:00 |
: CMart triple digit alert x2
9:00 |
: I’m participating in a Fangraphs chat. AMA
9:00 |
: Were you excited to see future Nat Pat Neshek on the mound?
9:00 |
: apparently the freeze lost 🙁
9:00 |
: hahahahahahaha
9:00 |
: Neshek and Martinez? really?
9:01 |
: What’s wrong with Carlos Martinez?
9:01 | : He’s the fifth-best NL pitcher. 4th-best who’s playing (stupid Dodgers). |
9:02 |
: wherever Neshek goes I hope it’s to close; I’ve got him in a league
9:02 |
: lol
9:02 |
: CMart triple digit alert x3
9:02 |
: Jose Ramirez early frontrunner for MVP?
9:02 |
: CMart triple digit alert x4
9:03 |
: 5th, alex wood not on that list, thanks Dodgers
9:03 |
: Yeah I didn’t update it after the article ran.
9:03 | : |
9:04 |
![]() |
9:04 |
: I was just expecting Greinke and Strasburg in the early going, but also I didn’t realize quite how good Martinez has been.
9:04 |
: Fair. I’d like to see Strasburg too.
9:05 |
: Have you ever rejected a trade from a rival/top team because you don’t want him/her getting anymore top players? Also have you ever rejected a deal/refused to trade with someone because you didn’t trust them to not just hand over (notorious for ‘bad deals’) a top traded player to another top team? Also go ASG! #idratherwatchaskillscompetition
9:05 |
: Yes, to both.
9:06 |
: Haha, Altuve ad.
9:06 |
: Did you know Carlos Martinez throws fast?
9:06 |
: I did, yes.
9:06 |
: the gun seems a little hot tonight …Since when have CMart and Sale repeatedly hit 100 in a game?
9:06 |
: DON’T RUIN OUR FUN NEVILLE COLDBOTTOM.
9:07 |
: since they only had to throw 1-2 innings at a time?
9:07 |
: Martinez all the time–he’s hit 101 in the 7th inning up around 100 pitches before, and he only has to throw one inning today
9:07 |
: Someone is gonna shell out the money for an Altuve/Judge ad campaign and it’s gonna be awesome.
9:07 |
: Jose Ramirez early MVP pick?
9:08 |
: I said that last inning Jay, try to keep up! (Yes, I think so.)
9:08 |
: Is it me or the Astros not wearing their normal hats?
9:08 |
: “You better back up.” This is why people hate Joe Buck. Shut up, Joe.
9:09 |
: All teams wear gold cap logos in the asg.
9:09 |
: That’s stupid.
9:09 |
: Filthy from Betances.
9:10 |
: The colors on the ‘stros hats are different. Also, I like the whole “talk to the player literally during the game” thing. Thoughts?
9:10 |
: I would have liked it better if it was Ken or John doing it, but yes, I liked it.
9:10 |
: Its another hat to sell though!
9:11 |
: I feel like MLB has saturated the market past the point of usefulness, but that’s just a feeling. Maybe people like them.
9:11 |
: oh my. looks like someone invited Betances’ uncle charlie to the party and he came without showering
9:11 |
: Wait. Are they interviewing Springer WHILE he’s playijg left field? That feels absurd
9:11 |
: So could Fox mute Smoltz andBuck and just let the players mic audio go through for the game? An inning at least?
9:12 |
: Would be cool to listen to the catcher or the infielders. Not sure an inning of Springer just standing there would be fun though.
9:12 |
: First baseman would prob be the best.
9:12 |
: The talk to a player thing way better than the on deck interview
9:12 |
: See betances gold NY there
9:12 |
: Yeah I see it now.
9:12 |
: I assume you’re a booky person Paul, any books you’d recommend similar to Ball Four? Baseball and otherwise.
9:12 |
: Shockingly, I’ve never read Ball Four.
9:13 |
: Baseball books I’d instantly recommend – Travis’ “Big Data Baseball,” Jonah’s Expos’ book, Crasnick’s book, Passan’s book, “The Teammates” by Halberstam, “We Could’ve Finished Last Without You” by Bob Hope (not THAT Bob Hope).
9:13 |
: So many others.
9:14 |
: Love how we had a 30 minute ceremony to honer latin players and joe buck is butchering Betances’ name.
9:14 |
: Thoughts on Harper draft teams idea? I love it.
9:14 |
: Oh it’d be amazing. Let’s do it already.
9:15 |
: Keep the one player per team rule, and keep the fan vote for starters, but then mix it up and let the captains pick. Who wouldn’t want to see this?
9:15 |
: They already tried it a few years ago with the HR Derby.
9:15 |
: Betances is awesome but I feel like he could go full Daniel Bard at any moment.
9:15 |
: Hope not. Bard’s downfall was sad to watch.
9:16 |
: Bryce Harper knew the strikes weren’t coming, that was actually a neat insight. “I feel like he’s guy you just take”
9:16 |
: I have always like the idea of putting microphones on players, with the down time in between pitches and pitching changes I think it would be interesting to hear what players say to each other.
9:16 |
: The Clemente biography I’m reading is great. Clemente Baseballs Last Hero
9:17 |
: I read the Dave Maraniss one. That one was great. Probably any book about Clemente is great.
9:17 |
: I’ve wanted a draft for a long time. I would watch the heck out of the draft special. Put them all in a room and do it playground style, have a good laugh at the undeserving fan vote recipient picked last.
9:17 |
: of course, Bryce did swing twice first lol…neither of those caught plate either…maybe that’s actually when he made the adjustment/observation though
9:17 |
: that was some variety of a show that Betances put on
9:17 |
: Fun game so far, we just need some runs!
9:19 |
: Kipnis has to be cringing watching that ad right now. I’d love to know why they picked him for it.
9:19 |
: Oh I see, the Cardinals pitcher gets a second inning. Nothing fishy there!
9:20 |
: When will we see the first position player subs
9:20 |
: Probably next inning.
9:20 |
: Boring prediction: Josh Harrison hits a leadoff 8th inning homer for a 1-0 NL win
9:20 |
: Heard it here first!
9:21 |
: He asked him about his undershirt.
9:21 |
: Harper almost swore!
9:21 |
: There had better be some stupid Dodger fan service in the late innings
9:21 |
: Maybe he’s waiting for all the west coast people to get home from work. That Joe Maddon, what a guy!
9:21 |
: re: Cardinals pitcher pitching two. Sale got 2 innings as well
9:22 |
: Yes, but Joe Maddon isn’t in charge of him.
9:22 |
: Not boring prediction: Trout swoops in in the ninth inning to hit a go ahead grand slam
9:22 |
: Michael Jordan is apparently now a part of Jeter’s Miami bid.
9:23 |
: I saw that. If his old boss Jerry Reinsdorf could do both NBA and MLB, and his old rival Magic Johnson can do both, then why not His Airness, right?
9:24 |
: I meant with the awful astros ads re: fanservice
9:24 |
: Oh. Yeah, well I expect we’ll see a Nats one this inning because they are interviewing Harper. Dodgers later.
9:24 |
: They should keep Judge and Harper in the whole game right?
9:24 |
: They should, but they won’t.
9:24 |
: John Helyar’s “Lords of the Realm” is a top baseball book of all time. Covers the structural development of the player’s union & how the owners are basically little children.
9:25 |
: That’s another one that I have shockingly not read.
9:25 |
: I really, really want a ball to be hit to Harper right now (or just whoever is mic’d up at some point later in the game).
9:25 |
C- Yasmani Grandal – Cuba 1B- Joey Votto – Canada 2B- Jonathan Schoop – Curacao 3B- Carlos Correa – Puerto Rico (this may be cheating) SS- Xander Bogaerts – Aruba CF- Ender Inciarte – Venezuela OF- Mike Trout – USA OF- Marcel Ozuna – Dominican SP- Yu Darvish – Japan |
9:25 |
: Will give you PR. That’s not cheating.
9:25 |
: That’s a pretty good team.
9:26 |
: WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE NFL. COME ON GUYS.
9:26 |
: Great baseball book “Have Glove Will Travel” by Bill “Spaceman” Lee
9:27 |
: Pretty sure Harper snuck a “he’s pretty f*ing good” in at the end.
9:27 |
: Ha.
9:27 |
: BRB.
9:30 |
: Taking the orange out of the Astros’ and Orioles’ hats looks really bad, I’m sorry.
9:30 |
: Paul’s gone, let’s evaluate players based on RBI totals!
9:30 |
: Jason Vargas – this is who we are all here to see.
9:31 |
: 8th by WAR.
9:31 |
: We’ll see some runs this inning I think.
9:31 |
: Jason Vargas just threw an 85 mph fastball high above the zone
9:32 |
: FEATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9:32 |
: Mookie Betts
9:32 |
: Wtf arenado
9:32 |
: Arenado looked kinda slow
9:32 |
: Betts may have just cancelled your in play, (runs) prediction
9:32 |
: “We’ll see some runs this inning I think.” Not if Nolan Arenado has anything to say about it
9:32 |
: And the award for dumbest double play goes to…
9:33 |
: I don’t think Arenado expected to be challenged. That was awesome.
9:33 |
: Votto and Goldschmidt>>>Zimmerman.
9:33 |
: Brad Mills looks like a shop teacher
9:34 |
: Now that’s a burn. I’d say drill sergeant. He looks like a young Sgt. Hulka.
9:34 |
: LOOK IT UP.
9:34 |
: Nolan Arenado runs funny, also slow.
9:34 |
: No one told Arenado that betts leads mlb in Arm runs.
9:34 |
: Like…I know Vargas induces a lot of double plays, but really? That’s how it happened? Great play by the cutoff man to let that go through tho
9:34 |
: That was cool to see on the replay. Also, how nonchalant Schoop was laying the tag down. Awesome stuff.
9:35 |
: Predictions. Turner at 3B. Goldy at 1b.
9:35 |
: Who are some players who stopped played before 2015 that you’d like to see their Statcast pages for?
9:36 |
: Manny and Pedro, obviously. Rivera. Rickey. Bonds.
9:36 |
: The biggest help would be with older generations.
9:36 |
: It would be great to see who really had the athletic ability that would translate to today.
9:37 |
![]() Sgt. Hulka ^^^ (not spam link) |
9:37 |
: See, now put glasses on him and make him ~15 years younger. Boom, Brad Mills.
9:37 |
: Commercial question- Archer Dreamland thoughts? I wanted one or two more episodes
9:37 |
: Me too, but it was still fun. They need to tell us if Archer is dead or not next season though. Quit jerking us around.
9:37 |
: The show CAN still be funny without him.
9:38 |
: You think they keep judge in to get a 3rd at bat?
9:38 |
: If it’s this inning, maybe.
9:38 |
: Was there a Jose Fernandez tribute at the start of the game? I missed part of the pregame.
9:38 |
: I didn’t see one, no.
9:39 |
: Is Ian Kinsler a Hall of Famer?
9:39 |
: Not for me, no.
9:39 |
: Love to see Ruth & Aarons statcast
9:39 |
: Drink every time someone says “For Me…..” when discussing an obvious/universally believed opinion about a player
9:39 |
: Ha.
9:39 |
: If a team is 41-39, are they 1 game over .500, or 2 games over .500? I think of 41-40 as “1/2 over .500.”
9:39 |
: That’s not how I think of it, Julio Pepper.
9:39 |
: Aw man, we Netflix people are a season behind on Archer.
9:40 |
: Sorry dude. At least it’s still on Netflix?
9:40 |
: Arenado couldn’t scoop Schoop’s scorcher
9:40 |
: Stove is hot tonight, you guys.
9:40 |
: Pick 2 out of these 3 for the ROS: Thames, Alonso, Lonnie
9:40 |
: first 2
9:41 |
: Baseball is fun when people hit the ball.
9:42 |
: RUNZ!
9:42 |
: Sano CRUSHES a double
9:42 |
: Boy, the NL is so uncoordinated out there. You would think it’s their first time playing together, but here we are at the All Star break and this still happens.
9:43 |
: what can explain a spike in giving up HR for a pitcher while other things like k/9, bb/9 and BAA remain the same?
9:43 |
: The ball.
9:44 |
: Judge 0 for 3. BUST. send him down to the minors.
9:44 |
: That ball fell between 3 Nats
9:44 |
: I think that was the joke, Carlos. 🙂
9:44 |
: agree on Archer needing to tell us what’s really happening, but it sounds like Reed is happy to just do the same thing for two more seasons and be done
9:45 |
: It does, but I’m hoping he’s just trying to not tell the truth about it.
9:45 |
: Hey did you know that Aaron Judge is good?
9:46 |
: That’s Manny Machado sneaking into the ASG as family to Yonder Alonso
9:47 |
: Should have worn a less conspicuous hat.
9:48 |
: So where does Cozart get traded?
9:48 |
: Not sure he does.
9:49 |
: Kintzler, huh? OK.
9:49 |
: Which 2017 all star is least likely to be back in 2018?
9:49 |
: Kintzler is a good choice. 🙂
9:50 |
: Relief pitchers are usually the best choice to that question, unless there is someone you know is retiring.
9:50 |
: Who do people wanna see? Lance McCullers? Luis Severino? No. We want Brandon Kintzler
9:51 |
: Agreed on relievers, but counterpoint: Jason Vargas
9:51 |
: That’s a good one too.
9:52 |
: I stand up for my mother-in-law and father-in-law. Both gone too soon.
9:53 |
: Wait, Lexus is branding imaginary futuristic vehicles in a sci-fi flick? Is that what I’m seeing now? Man, I thought branding in video games was reaching a bit. New frontiers, folks
9:53 |
: Oh my god. Did someone in the booth think Adam Scott the actor was also Adam Scott one of the world’s best golfers?
9:54 |
: No, Joe Buck just sucks at making jokes.
9:54 |
: More future All Star appearances: Judge or Trout?
9:54 |
: Trout
9:54 |
: I like that MLB thinks Rizzo is important enough to represent them in a national ad campaign, but not important enough to grease him into the ASG.
9:55 |
: Good job, MLB.
9:55 |
: I like the Chad Bettis signs from the Rockies though.
9:56 |
: more future all star appearances: Judge or Betts !
9:56 |
: Betts
9:56 |
: Lots of players with family members too. Connie Moustakas, Megan Lamb.
9:56 |
: I’m sure. We really all do have someone to stand up for. Cancer sucks.
9:57 |
: I’ve been thinking about telling 3 minutes worth of jokes in front of people for a couple years now. Maybe Joe Buck is why I haven’t just taken the plunge yet. I think I have that much material–just not that much good material ; p
9:57 |
: Only way you’ll know is just to do it. I believe in you.
9:58 |
: I miss watching Chipper Jones hit and Greg Maddux pitch and Andruw Jones defend. Those were fun times.
9:58 |
: That they were. Maddux would be a great Statcast guy.
10:01 |
: Oh hey look. 7pm PST and the ENTIRE DODGERS TEAM shows up on the field
10:01 |
: I’m not even mad. That’s fine.
10:01 |
: Nelson Cruz with the phone really stringing out that watered down Big Papi analogy, eh?
10:02 |
: Bradley zimmer didn’t even get an honorable mention in the trade value rankings. Would he be close in your top 50?
10:02 |
: Not yet. Let’s see it for another few months.
10:02 |
: I do love him though.
10:02 |
: Yadi’s catcher’s gear tho–MLB catcher or third member of Daft Punk?
10:02 |
: Yes.
10:03 |
: Really nice moment- the stand up for cancer. As someone who lost their mother to cancer as a child, I encourage everyone to donate money to cancer research. It makes a difference.
10:03 |
: do you? do you believe in me, Paul? the bad news I don’t even have a day job to not quit
10:03 |
: I believe that you will find a day job to quit too!
10:03 |
: I hope cruz slides and breaks his phone
10:04 |
: is trout gonna be #1 in the t-v rankings? or is it time to pass it to CC?
10:04 |
: You’ll just have to keep reading.
10:04 |
: Because I forgot and I’m too lazy to go look at what Dave said. Also, Dave might change his mind.
10:04 |
: I think cowboy joe asked cruz why he didn’t swing at that 1st pitch meatball
10:05 |
: Now we will never find out where the phone goes if he got on. Give it to the 1b coach?
10:05 |
: He should have had to run the bases with it in his hand like it was a batting glove.
10:05 |
: Still no McCullers or Severino. Did they pitch Sunday?
10:06 |
: Sev pitched saturday
10:06 |
: Eh, probably close enough.
10:08 |
: Yadier interrupting Joe Maddon is my favorite thing he’s ever done.
10:08 |
: Bit over 3:00 pace is fast? Manfred is gonna swoop in and slap Joe.
10:09 |
: Now why can’t he do that in regular Cardinals games?
10:10 |
: Bit over 3 with lots of extra bs. Fast gameplay pace
10:10 |
: How good is Trea Turner in a keep forever league? The league counts OBP and SLG on top of normal offensive categories. I have an opportunity to move Conforto for him
10:10 |
: Close. Depends on your team needs. My feeling is that Turner might be the more valuable player, but Conforto might be the more valuable *fantasy* player.
10:11 |
: Joe Madden calling out the AL as less strategic. Love it!
10:11 |
: A) I can barely hear him. B) Eye roll.
10:12 |
: It’s hard for me to think of Yadier Molina as old.
10:12 |
: BRB.
10:16 |
: whoops, I pushed it too far…game! is Strasburg going to be in it? I remember when you had to wait until the 6th inning for the Nats’ middle reliever to come on and butcher a win, now I’m not watching closely because there are *too many* starters
10:16 |
: I guess that’s one way to hold our attention!
10:16 |
: joe just said future hall of famer yadier molina… other HoFers in the game? Judge, obviously… maybe maddon as a mngr… cano? thats all?
10:16 |
: A) Yadier is NOT a Hall of Famer, and Buck is obviously biased as a Cardinals announcer.
10:19 |
: Sorry, my computer turned off.
10:20 |
: Votto, Harper, Betts, Trout, seem like obvious calls.
10:20 |
: Posey is on track if he ages well.
10:21 |
: Kershaw
10:21 |
: Sale, maybe
10:21 |
: Scherzer for HOF?
10:21 |
: Maybe.
10:21 |
: He got a late start.
10:22 |
: miggy!
10:22 |
: try to focus, miggy isn’t on the roster this year.
10:22 |
: Cano has a shot, I think.
10:22 |
: if you’re gonna say betts then altuve & correa
10:23 |
: I don’t have to say that, but fair enough.
10:23 |
: I got no time for focusing, sir.
10:23 |
: Also fair!
10:23 |
: Rank these young studs in a keep forever (OBP and SLG included). Judge, Gary Sanchez, Bellinger, Conforto, Sano
10:23 |
: Put Sano in between Sanchez and Bellinger and you have it.
10:24 |
: I’m going home now. See you in extras
10:24 |
: Bye Murdoc. I hope your plan comes together.
10:25 |
: So ready to not have to hear GBA at ballgames.
10:25 |
: Is it Correa>Seager>>>Lindor?
10:25 |
: Not sure they’re that far ahead of Lindor.
10:25 |
: Goldy for hof?
10:25 |
: Well but remember how underrated he is, even today!
10:25 |
: Will any current relievers make it? Relievers as HoFers are difficult to peg.
10:25 |
: Yeah I can’t even call that.
10:25 |
: Cano has a shot? Most people talk about him as a lock.
10:26 |
: Most people? How many people you know talking about Robinson Cano’s HoF chances?
10:26 |
: He’s 34 and has 51 career WAR. Feel like he needs to keep it up. Whitaker barely got a sniff and he has 68.1 WAR.
10:27 |
: Hopefully the electorate will be more enlightened in 10+ years when Cano comes up, but you never know.
10:27 |
: Also did you just list Betts as an obvious call?
10:27 |
: I did.
10:27 |
: Wanna fight about it?
10:27 |
: Re cano hof: they left out jeff kent.
10:27 |
: kimbral seems en route as any reliever
10:27 |
: No reliever has an easy route. Lot of analysts today don’t even believe RPs should be HoFers, full stop.
10:28 |
: I remember after 2010 when Zim was like 26 and definitely had serious HOF chances…now he needs to hit .330 for like 5 years to have any shot…glad for his revival though
10:28 |
: RE: Mookie, he’s going to be at 20+ WAR by the end of his age-24 season.
10:29 |
: Who would u want Vargas or Manaea for the second half?
10:29 |
: Manaea
10:29 |
: Is Yankee helium a thing for HOF voting? Doesn’t seem to help Mussina, but Posada got more votes than he should’ve and it might help Cano over Whitaker
10:29 |
: Not anymore, but it used to be.
10:30 |
: Back when NY had 3 teams a disproportionate number of voters were from NY.
10:30 | : Mookie will be just the 52nd player to top 20 WAR by the end of age-24. Pretty good company. |
10:31 |
: Is Moncada gonna be the next Buxton in terms of hitting ability or do you think he’ll become a star?
10:31 |
: It’s tough to peg anyone as the next Buxton hitting-wise.
10:31 |
: You actually think the % chance Betts gets into the HOF as of right now is higher than that of Cano? And Posey gets an aging-caveat but not Betts, who has a ton of value tied up in defense? I’m sorry that seems a bit bizarre.
10:32 |
: Posey is at 36 WAR at age 30, and catchers can and often do decline quickly.
10:32 |
: Betts is a speed and defense guy, and those players generally age very well.
10:33 |
: Mookie already has half the WAR Posey does, but he’s six years younger. Sorry you find it bizarre, but it isn’t.
10:33 |
: Posada got more votes than he should’ve? He fell off the ballot…
10:33 |
: I never saw Posada as a HoFer when he was playing.
10:33 |
: Have we seen Lindor’s peak season? Pretty bummed about this first half
10:33 |
: No, he’ll get better.
10:34 |
: cano averages ~105 hits over the final six years of his contracts he gonna get 3k… not guaranteed but decent odds at a good HOF #
10:34 |
: Assuming he is healthy and plays those seasons, sure. I think he has a good chance, I just don’t think he’s a lock.
10:34 |
: Re Cano:David Schoenfield wrote an article today ranking the “star” factor of each all star. For Cano, who he ranked 24th, he wrote “The future Hall of Famer toils in obscurity these days, but still puts up big numbers.” So clearly some people think Cano is a no brainer for the hof.
10:34 |
: Dave is also a Mariners fan.
10:35 |
: Posey has been so much better than other catchers for years, won 3 ws and lost a year of his prime to a famous injury. I think he’s get the high peak fame treatment even if he declines rapidly.
10:35 |
: He will have a great argument for that, yes.
10:35 |
: Idea to make the game more intense/competitive: put a million dollars on the line, winning team gets to pick the charity of their choice that gets it. Yay or nay?
10:35 |
: Need to make it $10 million.
10:35 |
: For some of these guys, $1 million isn’t a big deal.
10:36 |
: Posada had the fourth worst mark of all time for fielding value for catchers, and yes, Piazza was down there too but he was a top three all time hitter at the position. Don’t think there was a good case for the guy
10:36 |
: Agreed. But I also don’t see his extra votes — if they were extra — as a result of Yankees bias. Call it winning bias.
10:37 |
: Ugh, I remember that 08 game. None of that tonight please!
10:37 |
: They’re going to let Cris Carter talk about sports besides football? That’s one way to go.
10:38 |
: Sorry your logic doesn’t seem very consistent. You make these caveats like “if Cano can keep it up” or “if he stays healthy into his late 30s’ but you are comfortable projecting Betts over the next decade as a safer bet. Maybe I’m just more risk-averse about aging, I think projecting anyone in their mid-20s who isn’t Mike Trout as a sure bet to make the HOF is absurd.
10:39 |
: My reasoning with the older players is because they are less likely to put up 6-7 WAR campaigns this late in their careers, so they need the career bulk through playing time. In other words, for Cano to get from 50 to Whitaker’s 68, he needs a bunch of 3 WAR seasons, because he’s probably not going to have any 6-7 WAR seasons. So if he gets hurt for an extended period, it will really put a dent in his chances of doing that.
10:39 |
: Mookie is young, if he gets hurt this year, he’ll still have plenty of 6-7 WAR seasons in him.
10:40 |
: Why have i not pitched?
10:40 |
: I don’t know.
10:40 |
: I don’t if I’m just drunk, but I can’t really tell if this game has been good, or extremely boring.
10:40 |
: Well the crowd hasn’t been in it for much of the night, so that hasn’t helped.
10:41 |
: There’s two ways for a Betts type of player to age. One learns old player skills like Bonds did, those guys last forever. The ones who don’t mature into the new skills dont sustain HOF quality play
10:41 | : Sorry that’s just not true. |
10:41 |
: Mccullers is going to throw 5 innings and get the win in extras.
10:43 |
: Which position is deeper: NL First Base or NL Third Base?
10:43 |
: I think when I looked NL third base had the most 2 WAR+ players.
10:43 |
: Jacoby Ellsbury is your example of aging well?
10:44 |
: I trust that you’re smart enough to read the entire article.
10:44 |
: Also, as I wrote Monday, Ellsbury has still been pretty good when healthy.
10:44 |
: Ronald Acuna will be the Braves All Star representative next year.
10:44 |
: Are you saying Freeman will be injured again next season?
10:45 |
: By default, do the majority of fans choose to support NL or AL based on which league their favorite team is in? I’m a Dodgers fan, but I really battle to cheer for the NL over the AL. I probably should, but…eh.
10:45 |
: I would think so, yes.
10:46 |
: NL third base is 7 of top 13 players by WAR (including Freeman).
10:46 |
: Sorry. I meant one of the Braves All Stars representatives. Thanks for catching my typo.
10:46 |
: No problemo. Thank YOU for having enough faith to think the Braves will have more than one All-Star next year!
10:46 |
: who is the Rendon equivalent at 1B for the NL (best player at position not in game)
10:46 |
: Uh there’s this Anthony Rizzo guy
10:47 |
: How many of tonight’s players will get traded in the next month? Alonso, Hand, Neshek, others?
10:47 |
: Maybe Stanton and Ozuna.
10:47 |
: If Gary Sanchez were to get hurt right now, would Perez be allowed to re-enter?
10:47 |
: God I hope so, but I don’t think so, no.
10:48 |
: Striking out Votto should net you the MVP award.
10:48 |
: who’s taking Stanton on?
10:48 |
: Who wouldn’t?
10:48 |
: Pretty sure Perez would be allowed to re-enter in case of injury (source: what I think I heard on the baseball tonight podcast)
10:49 |
: Oh, they just said Jose Ramirez was the player designated as being able to come back in the game.
10:49 |
: So I guess not.
10:49 |
: Sorry, NL 3rd base is 6 of top 13, not 7 of top 13, but that is still amazing.
10:49 |
: It is indeed!
10:50 |
: Even 5 would be.
10:50 |
: teams that don’t have 11/295 lying around?
10:50 |
: They all have it lying around, don’t be ridiculous.
10:50 |
: If the Marlins can afford it, everyone can.
10:50 |
: This is all shaping up for Jose Ramirez to re-enter to win MVP.
10:50 |
: Yup. Let’s do it.
10:51 |
: I haven’t really seen Devinski pitch until tonight, but WOW,that changeup is amazing. Best pitch in MLB?
10:51 |
: It’s certainly among them.
10:51 |
: Seems weird they’d chose Ramirez and not Perez, unless an injury allows you to add in someone else.
10:52 |
: Yeah, agreed. I think Mills probably just chose a guy on his own team because it’s an easier ask.
10:52 |
: Isn’t the point kind of that the Marlins CAN’T afford it–i.e., that they signed Stanton to that deal with no intention of paying him the entirety of it because they expected a trade?
10:53 |
: No, they can afford it. Please understand that the teams can all afford far more in payroll than what they pay. MLB dot com has made them all very rich. And they were all already very rich to start with.
10:54 |
: What do the Marlins do with the Stanton money though if they trade? Who would come there as a free agent anymore – for it to make much sense (baseball and P.R. terms) they would have to eat some money to get real prospects back, which would open up more bidders
10:54 |
: That’s a problem for the new owners to worry about.
10:54 |
: What kind of odds could I have gotten before the season that Yonder Alonso would score the winning run in the All-Star game?
10:54 |
: Yeesh. What a fun season he is having.
10:54 |
: The fact that hitters and pitchers are more or less giving 100% makes MLB by far the best all star game.
10:54 |
: For sure.
10:55 |
: Wow Jansen looked at 2nd for way too long there.
10:55 |
: Remember when alonso for pomeranz was a joke of a trade? Essentially it became yonder for Espinosa. Good result for the pads?
10:55 |
: Let’s see how Espinoza is when he starts throwing. Always dubious of the elbow injury that doesn’t need TJ story.
10:55 |
: Forbes has the Marlins at a negative 2.2MM in operating income; not sure they have as much cash lying around as you think.
10:56 |
: The MLB dot com money doesn’t count in those values, IIRC.
10:56 |
: Also, I love Maury Brown, but he’s just making educated guesses.
10:57 |
: We don’t really know any of it, because MLB doesn’t have to open its books to anyone.
10:57 |
: So we don’t know anything, but we have to accept that all the teams can afford Stanton?
10:59 | : The Marlins payroll ranked 20th this year. |
11:00 |
: If you truly believe OAK, SD, TB and MIL can’t afford him, OK. But I’d say that they’re just saving money because the MLBPA is toothless now and doesn’t call them on them not spending $.
11:01 |
: How many innings do you they will go? Shouldn’t it be set in advance?
11:01 |
: Eh, that’d take the fun out of it, wouldn’t it?
11:01 |
: To put the question differently, would anyone give up anything decent for Stanton?
11:02 |
: I think that depends on how much of his deal the Marlins are willing to eat. I’m assuming that since they’re the Marlins, the answer is zero, and as such, no, I wouldn’t offer anything good for him.
11:02 |
: I’m fascinated to see if he develops a market anyway though.
11:02 |
: they should switch to kickball in extra innings
11:02 |
: Ha.
11:03 | : Wait, is the MLBPA really toothless now? What happened to the “strongest union in sports”? (See, e.g., |
11:03 |
: They stopped hiring labor lawyers to run their organization.
11:03 |
: Marvin Miller or Don Fehr would have been unlikely to cave to MLB’s last minute-CBA negotiations last November, I know that much.
11:04 |
: FWIW, Cano has 64 bREF WAR. Big difference.
11:04 |
: It is indeed.
11:04 |
: Jansen did not just strike out the side cuz he allowed a baserunner. Agree or disagree?
11:04 |
: Disagree.
11:05 |
: i’m retiring early (just like David Ortiz) – see y’all later
11:05 |
: Night!
11:06 |
: What do you make of the disparity between fWAR and baseball prospectus WAR? For instance, BP has Votto has the best player this year, whereas fWAR vastly prefers Judge?
11:07 |
: TBH, I don’t really check BP or B-Ref WARP/WAR anymore. Feel free to call me a company man, but between being with the kids, writing, editing and trying to have some semblance of a life, I just don’t have time for those kinds of comparisons anymore. I realize that is a lame answer, sorry.
11:07 |
: Love that Kenley pulled his quick pitch, it’s legal with bases empty and it wrecks people
11:07 |
: That was cool.
11:07 |
: Joe buck just answered my question re: catcher injury
11:07 |
: What did he say I missed it
11:08 |
: quick pitches are never legal
11:08 |
: What about Quick Pitch on MLB Network?
11:08 |
: Kimbrel for HOF? 279 saves at 29-years-old
11:08 |
: Maybe. Not comfortable picking out HoF relievers.
11:09 |
: Catcher can reenter if there’s an injury
11:09 |
: Catcher allowed to re-enter game due to injury
11:09 |
: If Molina gets hurt Posey can come back in
11:09 |
: With the mlbpa past wins cover up what they’ve lost. But the union is still way stronger thea in other leagues like the the nfl. And mlbpa would never allow the max contract garbage thats in nba.
11:10 |
: Oh sure, but that’s damning with faint praise. The NFLPA literally signed a deal that lets Goodell do whatever the hell he wants re: player discipline. The NHLPA struck for a full season and then took LESS PAY when they came back. Not exactly a ton of competition for MLB.
11:10 |
: for MLBPA, excuse me.
11:10 |
: Jake Lamb’s gonna do it, I feel it.
11:10 |
: You think you’re slick dont you Paul
11:11 |
: Yes?
11:11 |
: What Jansen did is legal if he declares it his windup and not the stretch. He has done it many times. Rule change this year
11:11 |
: Who was it that called a Josh Harrison walk off? I mean … it could happen
11:11 |
: Difference is, if you’re good enough at basketball to make the max, you’ll get a huge shoe contract
11:11 |
: I think huge is not as huge as it used to be, for the shoe contracts.
11:12 |
: MLB is very very profitable, saying that, if every player earning 5 million or less had their salaries doubled could the owners do it? Not saying they will want to but it’s possible isn’t it?
11:12 |
: It’d be a fun exercise to conduct and see how that would change payroll numbers. My guess is yes though.
11:12 |
: Didn’t LeBron get something like $2 billion?
11:12 |
: I mean I def recognize that LeBron is a total anomaly
11:12 |
: Yeah he is.
11:13 |
: They will settle the tie by having a jousting match – representing the AL is Altuve riding on Judge’s shoulders, for the NL, Stanton carrying…er…can Billy Hamilton make a guest appearance?
11:13 |
: Ha.
11:14 |
: chandler parsons has a max contract… you wearing his shoes ?
11:14 |
: Is Kimbrel’s arm stance the best among relievers?
11:14 |
: It is pretty outstanding. I’m not an expert on the subject, but his is legit intimidating.
11:14 |
: as a sox fan, not enjoying the sox/bronx battery in the 9th
11:15 |
: I love it. Boston radio will melt down if Kimbrel allows the winning run here.
11:15 |
: Goldschmidt-Kimbrel is a great AB with the game on the line.
11:15 |
: Over under 10% that Rusney becomes a very nice piece for any team he’s traded to
11:15 |
: Under, but I’d like to believe.
11:15 |
: Shoe deals aside. Thats not the nba unions problem. They should be getting the players their money. Even the nflpa didnt let payton manning take a pay cut because he is in every effing comercial.
11:16 |
: Yup.
11:16 |
: Oh hello again.
11:16 |
: I love it when a plan comes together.
11:16 |
: Goldy just missed it. Damn.
11:16 |
: Walk-off passed ball/wild pitch would melt the internet.
11:17 |
: Goldy walks. Conforto strikes out. Seager walkoff. You heard it here first
11:17 |
: Walk off wild pitch gonna end this
11:17 |
: Now my plan depends on conforto to walk
11:17 |
: Balk-off? Maybe?
11:18 |
: Balk off.
11:18 |
: NY collusion sanchez tips the pitch
11:18 |
: My plan aged poorly
11:18 |
: Peyton Manning along with every other elite QB was severely underpaid.
11:18 |
: Molina MVP here pretty much no matter what?
11:18 |
: At this point, yes.
11:18 |
: Unless it’s a walkoff home run
11:19 |
: 98 at the letters. Kimbrel was not messing around there.
11:19 |
: Damn, Kimbrel!
11:20 |
: Never depend on a Met
11:20 |
: ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaaha
11:20 |
: This means Archers pitching for a few right, unless I somehow missed him pitching the 4th or something
11:20 |
: he hasn’t yet pitched, unless I missed it too!
11:20 |
: Is the Win Probability chart frozen in the 7th for everyone else?
11:21 |
: Sent this into our Slack channel. Hopefully can be fixed quickly.
11:21 |
: My apologies.
11:23 |
: OK, NOW Cano is a Hall of Famer. 🙂
11:23 |
: Love the emotion from Kimbrel and Sanchez when conforto struck out.2 rivals teaming up for a exhibition and taking it very seriously.
11:23 |
: Archer pitched Sunday
11:23 |
: Stupid Sunday pitcher rule.
11:24 |
: Archer definitely cant pitch he gave up a hr to Betts on Sunday
11:24 |
: Apologies accepted, Paul
11:24 |
: Also never depend on a Cub
11:24 |
: And the Cubs’ fine season continues!
11:24 |
: That’s what Cano thinks about your opinion on his HOF chances…
11:24 |
: and you say cano aint a hall of famer??
11:24 |
: HOF? Didn’t help Fred McGriff.
11:24 |
: Hitting dingers off Davis is hard.
11:25 |
: Screw you Swydan!
11:26 |
: Hi Will.
11:26 |
: God I miss that pretty swing in the Yankee lineup.
11:26 |
: if cano wins all star mvp does it help his hof chance by more than 1%
11:26 |
: No no, I’m just kidding.
11:27 |
: The defending champ’s lone all-star blows it
11:27 |
: It’s been a bad year for the Cubs.
11:28 |
: who do you think closes for the AL, paul?
11:28 |
: Well I’d just leave Kimbrel in.
11:28 |
: But the only RP they have left is Miller, so I’ll say him.
11:29 |
: Nice turn from Davis there.
11:29 |
: Gotta go with miller, no?
11:29 |
: Ya if you bring in someone else.
11:29 |
: I think the Red Sox would be furious at Kimbrel throwing so many pitches if he had throw another inning. Miller makes more sense anyway.
11:30 |
: Whatever to any team getting huffy about their player’s usage. I get sick and tired of that stuff. The fans should get what they want on this night.
11:30 |
: Does Cano go in as a Yankee or M?
11:30 |
: Too soon! If he somehow helps deliver the Mariners their first title, he’d be a lock to go in with the Mariners hat. But who knows if that’ll ever happen.
11:32 |
: Andrew Miller is a pretty high profile player I can’t see how he’s a downgrade from kimbrel
11:32 |
: He is a very good pitcher.
11:32 |
: Would it shock you if Judge hit 60 HRs this year?
11:32 |
: Yes.
11:32 |
: WHAT?! How is Buck not using Britton here just because he’s on the road?
11:34 |
: When’s the last time an injury reserve ever won the ASG MVP?
11:34 |
: Uh, I dunno.
11:34 | : OK the game graph is fixed. |
11:35 |
: Thanks for pointing that out!
11:35 |
: Timely mention of that time Bellinger hit a homer off Miller
11:37 |
: Yes, we get Bellinger.
11:37 |
: Three lefties in a row against Miller NICE ONE MADDON
11:37 |
: Joe Maddon – best there is.
11:37 |
: Weird hypothetical. If bonds was able to secretly take steroids from now until spring training, how good could he be in 2018?
11:37 |
: Probably, yeah.
11:38 |
: How dare Votto walk there instead of driving in a run!
11:38 |
: What an overpaid loser. Sad!
11:38 |
: This games over after this AB I reckon
11:38 |
: Bold
11:38 |
: Is Votto a high value trade asset?
11:38 |
: Votto has a full no-trade and has said he will not go anywhere, so, no.
11:39 |
: Man, nice swing rookie!
11:39 |
: Told ya so
11:39 |
: Had fun. Ty Paul
11:39 |
: Thanks to you all for hanging out!
11:39 |
: Paul, it’s been a real pleasure. Thanks for the insights and compant
11:39 |
: thanks for such a good chat!
11:39 |
: Thanks, Paul!
11:39 |
: Appreciate it. Glad you all stuck with me.
11:39 |
: Just a heads up, in 15 – 20 minutes FanGraphs will be down for 2-3 hours while we migrate servers.
11:40 |
: That’s an official message from the Dark Overlord right there.
11:40 |
: FunN stuff Paul!
11:40 |
: Bye Paul 🙂
11:40 |
: Bye banana, I have to split. #dadhumor
11:40 |
: Seriously though, talk to you all next week. Back at normal 9 pm ET!
11:40 |
: Night!

Cano at this point seems a prohibitive favorite for HOF induction. He has the objective stats, PLUS the subjective ones that still matter — high BA and hits total, 8 ASG nods, 8 years with MVP votes (5 in a row top-6), and the notice that comes with living up to a huge F.A. contract (so far).
