Carson Cistulli has published a book of aphorisms called Spirited Ejaculations of a New Enthusiast.
There’s no way that Carson attempting to deep fry a turkey in a foot of snow doesn’t end with a trip to the emergency room and third degree burns over 90% of his body.
We actually DO have underground power lines in many places in the northeast. Especially in neighborhoods where thye might use lower strength wire compared to main roads.
But Carson is right. It is not entirely common to lose power during a snowstorm. In Massaschusetts, we might lose it once or twice a winter.
It’s likely that the Northeast spends money and does work to minimize power outages — aggressively pruning trees back from power lines, re-routing lines that have been problematic in the past, etc — that other parts of the country with milder winters can’t justify. It’s a bit like snowplows in Seattle — they can’t justify equipment that is idle four winters out of five, even if every eight to ten years we get a storm that completely shuts the city down for a few days.
Does Dave Cameron believe that the Northeast and Midwest go without power for like 40 days each winter? I can remember it happening maybe once or twice in the past ten years. Carson is right our power lines are way more prepared then weak southern power lines.
Carson, this was a great podcast, one of the most solid in a while. And I assume Dave made that preposterous comment about deep frying a turkey in a foot of snow because he’s attempting humility by being wrong in public and the podcast is a lower-risk venue than the written word. Good on him for trying. Please don’t take his advice, we need you alive.
Not surprising that the minority with potential who fails has bad work ethic, but the white guy has bad knees, good work ethic and just never made it…
