Wake up from your major world city. Neither this episode or Cameron’s last episode can be found on iTunes. What do you have to say for yourself?
Concerned listener.
I wondered what you thought about an interesting thought experiment I had with myself this morning.
Assuming good health in all cases, which of the following teams would win the most games over a full season?
1. Stars and scrubs – think Trout, Cabrera, Chris Davis and 6 replacement level players, total WAR 27
2. Solid hitters – 9 players with 3 WAR each, all value from offense (maybe 9 Andre Ethiers)
3. Great defenders – 9 players with 3 WAR each, all value from defense (maybe 9 Elvis Andruses)
Logic says it should make no difference but it seems to me that the team of solid hitters would win 2 or 3 more games over the season. They would score 2 or 3 runs every game an have a chance to win them all, the stars and scrubs would score 7 or 8 runs in some games but have a lot of zeroes, giving them several easy wins but lots of close losses. The defense team would seem to lose a lot of games 1-0 or 2-1.
