Carson Cistulli has published a book of aphorisms called Spirited Ejaculations of a New Enthusiast.
Good heavens. The only excuse for using Herb Alpert is if Felipe Lopez’s nickname is “The Lonely Bull.”
Also, without context, the headline “Scott Boras seduces Tigers” seems questionable at best. Or is there something you’d like to tell Mrs. Boras?
Good job!
[Note: The first two things I said were lame jokes. Fangraphs Audio is a lot of fun and coming along nicely]
heard all the talk about rayburn… i was curious too hear more on C. Thomas… i would like a damon signing for one year if it meant leaving A. Jackson inn AAA for the entire year and starting C. Thomas inn center… if they sign damon and give away thomas or rayburn then it’s a horrible idea
Hey Matt. Just because you own Raburn doesn’t make him better than Damon.
I pronounce CHONE with a hard CH even though that’s not how Figgins pronounces his name.
Me too. It’s a fake acronym, so it falls under acronym pronunciation rules. Like WAR, I always pronounce like bar, instead of actually saying “war.”
Acronym pronunciate rules-It’s good to pronounce acronyms in a way so that they don’t end up being homonyms. It clears up confusion-with most homonyms, we’re familiar enough with the English language that context tells us exactly which meaning is relevant. But acronyms are outside of our usual vocabulary (even for Fangraphs’ writers, I assume), so the mind doesn’t always recognize what is said. The first rule is to pronounce it phonetically, else it gets really confusing, but the second rule is to avoid homonyms.
I just made those rules up, but they work.
Hmm… I say it like sh + own, which in turn = Figgins. But since this podcast is one of the few times I hear these accronyms actually pronounced, it never really had been a problem.
Are you guys gonna start putting these on iTunes soon? I’d love to listen to them on my iPhone while I’m stuck on the train to work.
Yep, we’ve submitted the podcast to itunes, as soon as it’s been approved it should be up there.
Graet work Carson (& Dave & Fingers)!!! I’m in love with these. Keep them coming!
These are really fun. Nice job, guys.
Does anyone else think Dave was a little harsh on Klaassen, though? Twice on his long answers, which I hadn’t particularly noticed until he mentioned ’em.
He perfectly summarized what seeing Mike Jacobs and Adam Dunn on the same defense would be like, though…
Nice intro.
Excellent podcast.
We got your back, back.
Dave Cameron is the star of the show. The other two need to work on their delivery a bit.
