Wonderful, how special it is to have him still around.Having started to follow baseball in 1961,I had many friends your grandpas age,and they had the greatest stories on Sugar Ray,DiMaggio,Williams,and of course Casey,and young Mays and Mantle.Truly the glory of there times.
My grandfather — who was born in 1889 and died 40 years ago this spring — had season tickets to the Tigers between 1910 and 1975 and saw everyone from Cobb to Kaline, including Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Williams, Mantle and the like. I asked him one time about the best ballplayer he ever saw. His response? Tris Speaker. Well, OK then.

and not because you dont dare think whole even to yourself the entirety of a dear hope or wish let alone a desperate one else you yourself have doomed it but because thinking it into words even only to himself was like the struck match which doesn’t dispel the dark but only exposes its terror–one weak flash and glare revealing for a second the empty road’s the dark and empty land’s irrevocable immitigable negation.
Special Supervisor Cistulli has a nice ring to it.
Love these podcasts. Great to hear Phil is in the best shape ever entering his 95yo season.
This episode is bittersweet every year. Men like Cistulli’s grandfather are absolute treasures and I love hearing his stories, but this episode always reminds me of how much I miss my grandfather and those long Saturdays on the lake with him. Thanks Carson. I look forward to next years episode.
