11/24/80? That’s a long, long time to wait for a highly-anticipated Dave Cameron chat.

Lol. I was thinking it may be a theme or running inside joke, because last week’s RotoGraphs chat has 10/19/10 in the title (http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/index.php/rotographs-chat-101910/).

It’s probably just that he’s used to writing his birth date.

Now we know he’s 30.

Reveiling my ignorance maybe but why don’t baseball players hold out like football players? This would seem to make sense for great young players
12:22
Dave Cameron: They don’t need to. Football players mostly hold out because they have non-guaranteed contracts, so they have to get all of their money up-front, because they get cut as soon they suck or get hurt. Baseball players don’t have that problem.”

I could be misremembering, but I’m fairly certain this response is incomplete. NFL players hold out because their CBA gives them the right to hold out. The MLB CBA does not give players that right. Therefore, a hold out in MLB is a material breach of contract and grounds for a lawsuit which the player would lose whereas it is an allowed negotiating tactic in the NFL.

Dave’s explanation is more or less correct in regard to why this is the case. NFL players have the right to hold out, at least in part, because ownership gets to sign them to non-guaranteed contracts. MLB players don’t get to, but they have a guarantee that every dollar in their contract will be paid to them.

Your cake should have six candles (representing #6org of course) instead of 30 (where they should have ranked!)

Haw, haw, I kid. Enjoy (what’s left of) your birthday. Load up on skee-ball tickets at Chucky Cheese; those parachute army men and chinese finger traps don’t come cheaply…
