Time to revaluate what Gattis could be? (defensively at least)

“By taking on Heath Bell’s contract? Yes. The rest of the moves? I don’t think so.”

Awww, someone is still bitter

Dave Cameron: Depends on what the tool is. An 80 arm with nothing else on a position player isn’t a prospect.

Ransom: An 80 arm with nothing else on a position player isn’t a prospect, it’s Rick Ankiel.

Reliability or predictability doesn’t improve linearlly as sample size increases. Return on increase in sample size relative to increase in predictability as sample size increases. Maybe because of ALL the factors at play (changing player ability over time, constantly changing environment, pitchers, etc) this is less-true in a baseball environment and things are a bit more linear, but if you ask 2500 people who own a Camry if they like the radio and then ask another separate 2500 people that are similar the same question, you’re going to get VERY similar results to if you did the same thing with 5000 people.

edit: “Return on the increase in predictability relative to increase in sample size declines/levels-off.” forgot to go back and fix that sentence

Jays claimed Casper.

It’s unbelievable how biased Dave Cameron is against the Braves. How could he say that he doesn’t think that Kevin Towers made a mistake with the Justin Upton trade this winter still and how could he say it isn’t time to reevaluate Gattis defensively as a catcher yet, when the Braves starters and coaching staff have all talked about how much better he is defensively back there than they thought and how apparent it is that Gattis will take over as the primary catcher in 2014 for the Braves now based on how well he is doing defensively?

It is absurd. I thought analysts are supposed to try to take their biases out of any of their analyses? Cameron is laughably biased and it hurts his analysis without a doubt.

I guess we shouldn’t expect any different. Afterall, Dave is the brilliant analyst who said that anyone who thinks the Braves are noticeably better than the Mets this year are stupid (commenting on PECOTA’s projection of 80 wins for the Mets and 82 wins for the Braves in 2013).

Is that the Mets with Zack Wheeler or without?

Yeah, because he totally said that, and repeated it multiple times for everyone to hear.

Hello, pot. It’s me, kettle!

I was getting the same feeling. I think he’s bitter about Upton refusing to be traded to Seattle.

This is how he said that the D-backs, by acquiring Prado in return, ALSO won in the deal. Notice that I used the word “also”, which implies, that the Braves GOT A GOOD DEAL IN THE UPTON TRADE!

It’s bizarre that you equate not saying that Towers got ripped off in the deal to bias against the Braves. I guess anyone who doesn’t agree with your myopic perspective is inherently biased. Yeah, it’s them with the problem.

I guess you didn’t notice the “Justin Upton over/under 31 HRs” and he said “over”, did you?

When did Montero last play first base? What makes people think he would be better defensively or more valuable at first base than at catcher?

Dave, it feels like you are increasingly not really answering questions. Which is of course your prerogative, but not as interesting to read.

A couple of examples of what I mean.

12:01
Comment From Thomas
Without considering team control, would you still prefer to have Jaso over Morse?
12:02
Dave Cameron: Why wouldn’t you consider team control?

12:02
Comment From Harjit
hypothetical question (as I suppose, all of these are) what would it take to get Mike Trout or Bryce Harper signed up now for long-term deals? Would 10/100 do it?
12:03
Dave Cameron: Not even close.

Not sure if you realized that, but thought I’d mention it.

Edit: I meant to say that there are MORE questions that you are not actually answering, not that you’re not answering that many.

“Congrats, you’ve been successfully marketed?”

Holy cow, how forcefully cynical you can try to be sometimes… Morse has is own quotes, and they can be indicative of his feelings. He sounded better than Cliff Lee and Cliff Lee was not happy.

Yes, Root Sports and other media outlets want to sell Morse as the stand-up guy. Clearly this means we have to think he’s a dick or else ‘we’re slaves to the marketing ploy!’

As Dave is so keen on preaching, evidence man. Evidence. Being salty for it’s own sake against your own team does not itself grant you any real credibility, no matter how artificially objective it makes you seem.
