Help me understand what seems to me to be a contradiction: it’s preferable that pitchers induce GB, since that prevents HRs, yet GB also lead to a higher BABIP, correct? By the same logic, can we say that hitters with a high % of GB are preferable? What’s an optimal GB% for hitters?
For hitters it is totally dependent on the hitter.
Ichiro hits groundballs about 55% of the time. That’s probably optimal for him since he’s fast and can beat out a lot of infield hits. Ichiro hits home runs about 6% of the time he hits a flyball.
Jose Bautista wouldn’t be nearly as good if he hit the ball on the ground 55% of the time. Bautista hits groundballs about 30% of the time. Bautista hits home runs about 14% of the time he hits a flyball.
Obviously, Bautista should try and hit the ball in the air while Ichiro shouldn’t.
only a few guys can take his sinker yard, you gotta be super strong or hit a sinker thats up ( brett wallace muscled one out 380+ feet )
he uses alex gonzalez to field the balls a great defensive shortstop…
i think you want guys that hit over 18.7% LD rate and do not strike out a lot. also joey votto has not hit a infield pop up since 2009, guys with low infield fly ball rates are perferred.
so in summary low infield flyball (below 3%) + low strikeout + 18.7 + LD ( get guys that qualify in all three and can steal some bags and show ISO. good luck

Danks is totally overrated. Should have traded him for Jose Lopez when we had the chance.
It’s funny how Jason Vargas is always conveniently left out this “joke”. Look up Vargas’ numbers and Danks’ numbers since the start of last year some time.
So Danks and his 5.1 WAR still isn’t better than Vargas’ 3.5, Lowe’s 0, and Lopez’s 0.3? Even with Vargas costing $2.45MM, Lowe $1.2MM, Lopez $3.6MM against Danks making $6MM?
And it’s not really “conveniently left out”. The main focus from that article was Lopez for Danks, unless you forgot.
“Now that you’ve turned Morrow and Lopez into Hardy and Danks, it’s time to spend a little money.”
Why do you love the Mariners you biased prick!
You never answer my questions, you biased prick!
I’m still better than you, Dave.

Remember home runs aren’t Balls In Play.
derek lowe is a great example, his sinker is $.

Numbers like a 6% HR/FB rate?
Jose Lopez was a steal jerko. John Danks is 0-6.
If someone stole Jose Lopez, they would probably return the defective merchandise to its original owner…
Where can I find this bunting primer of which you speak? Sounds interesting….you biased prick?
