I think by the time Utley is up for the hall, the voters will be very different from the current ones. It’s clear with the Cy Young that the old voters are dying off (possibly literally.) The HOF vote takes longer to get. 10 years I think so it will change.

“Remember when everyone was flipping out about Austin Jackson last year saying that he just hits a ton of line drives and that he could still hit .300 with all the strikeouts? Good times.”
Batting like .330 the past 6 weeks(and trending upwards the past 2 weeks) after a dreadful month of April. SSS of course but it’s more of a sample then the 3 or 4 weeks that he was absolutely terrible. Even despite that bad start he still has a .342 BABIP, way below what it was last year but still higher than what his detractors were predicting. I wouldn’t be shocked if he ends up at close to a .280BA which again is alot higher than his critics were predicting.

A quick note on the Frank Thomas HoF subject. Thomas was one of the most outspoken players against PED’s during the steroids era. Then again, David Ortiz was very outspoken as well. Bagwell was never linked to steroids in any way, and despite being one of the best 1st basemen in history did not make it first ballot. I don’t believe Thomas ever took illegal supplements as he was always a huge monster, but I’m just saying, Frank Thomas may not be a first ballot lock given the voters history, even if he clearly deserves it.
