I’d like to see a more in depth analysis on the idea of trading David Wright. Just doesn’t seem like something a big market team would do for a player of that status. Maybe save the topic for the offseason

Why do you seem to be one of the few (if not the only) baseball analyst/bloggers who won’t recognize the Phillies as HUGE favorites in the NL playoffs?
Dave Cameron: Because they aren’t? Their rotation is good, everything else is just okay.

Their offense is good, not great. Howard is overrated, Ibanez is mediocre, Rollins is not healthy and hasn’t been an offensive force for a while now… it’s more name value than production.
Several things with this.
“They aren’t huge favorites.”
How? Who is going to beat them out of the NL?
“Their rotation is good.”
Their rotation isn’t good, its awesome. They have three starters in the top 8 in xfip in the NL. Those three starters will provide the majority of starts in the playoffs. How is that just good? That is by far the best rotation going into the playoffs of any team, AL or NL
“The offense is good, not great…Howard is overrated, Ibanez is mediocre”
Howard may be overrated and overpaid, but he is still an awesome hitter. He’s not even the best hitter on the team (award going to Jayson Werth with an excellent 141 OPS+). Just because Howard is overrated doesn’t mean the offense is not great. Additionally, Ibanez, even with a horrendous start to the season, has a 111 OPS+. Thats above average, not mediocre. Over the last month, he’s hitting .318/.371/.894. For the fifth best hitter in your offense, that’s excellent, not mediocre. As a team, they rank in the top 5 in BA, OPB, SLG, HRs, OPS, R, H, SBs. That’s an excellent offense. Re: Rollins…he’s the 8th best hitter on the team. The 8th best hitter. He’s certainly having a down year, but the rest of the excellent offense is picking up the slack.
Which playoff offense in the NL is better?
I don’t understand the basis for your evident bias against the Phillies, but they’re an excellent team playing excellent baseball at the right time. And should be recognized as huge favorites in the NL.
