FanGraphs:The Game – Some Updates

FanGraphs: The Game now contains a settings page where you can change your team (for a limited amount of time) and hide players that you don’t want to use or created by mistake.

In addition, you can now clear your pick on the picker page if you’ve made a pick and decide you no longer want to make any pick for that day.

You may change your team up until your player has accumulated stats. Once your player has accumulated any stats, your player’s team will be locked for the rest of the season.

Is my player’s team basically an aesthetic thing? If team is just for me to form a connection with him, I’d love to give him a name too.

Thanks so much for the opportunity to “re-set.”

Who’s going to be the idiot that doesn’t choose Ichiro tomorrow?

Yeah I’m still trying to figure out why the MLB team for each player is important. It seems like much is being made of the fact that they cannot be changed once the season starts, but I’m still unclear on why that matters. Any clarification on that point would be much appreciated.

The team association is essentially a grouping component. You’ll be competing against all other players with the same team/position alignment for the starting job at that spot. There can only be one starting SS for the Yankees, for instance.

You’re more broadly competing against everyone playing, of course, but those who choose the same team/position as you are your most direct competitors.

Got it, thanks. I picked the teams pretty much at random, but it doesn’t seem like that will adversely impact my odds of success.

Is there a way to see how many players exist on each team, each position, and each team-position combo?

Hmmm. I don’t get this. If I’m picking just a SS, I’m just not in the running for the $100 / t-shirt, is that right? How is it that I’m I competing against these people on the same team and position as I selected more directly?

on the picker page it might be helpful to have batter/pitcher handedness shown.

This is amazing, thanks.

One quick question: for RP, do you think it would make more sense to see who that team’s SP is instead of the opposing SP? Well, I guess both are helpful, so I’m not sure myself.

If you use a RP and they don’t pitch, you lose the money but don’t use up a GP. Is my understanding correct?

If I pick Team A and first base as my position, can I only choose a first baseman as my player for each day? Or is position just another grouping component? And at the end of the season, how many $100 first prizes and t-shirt second prizes will be given out, and what grouping component do I need to gain 1st or 2nd in to claim a prize?
